[0001] The present application relates to the field of Sports, in particular the basketball rim, which connects to a backboard, and from which hangs a net with an open bottom, and through which an attempt is made to shoot a basketball.BACKGROUND
[0002] The game of basketball was invented in 1891 to produce the benefits of physical outdoor sports in a relatively small indoor facility at the Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA Training School, now known as Springfield College. There was a very short period of time and limited resources available for the invention of a new indoor game.
[0003] A soccer ball was used with two peach baskets as goals, with one basket attached at each end of the gymnasium to the 10 foot high balcony. And the game of basketball began. The development of an independent support apparatus for a backboard and circular metal rim with a net soon replaced the peach baskets. With the passage of time the apparatus has evolved into what we see today. The circular metal rim, simply known as the rim, is also called a hoop.SUMMARY
[0004] By providing basketball rims of variable sizes and shapes, an additional technique is presented by which the efficiency of the shooter may be improved wherever present day rims are used, including during the development of a good shooting style. Rectilinear, polygonal, straight-curved, curved, or a rim within a rim of varying sizes and shapes can support the original objective of shooting the basketball through an elevated horizontal rim by offering an additional method to improve target acquisition, adaptability, concentration, hand-eye coordination and mental focus.DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0005] In the following detailed description the information in this application is focused on basketball rims. It is noted that although only basketball rims are described in detail, similar principles and procedures may be applied to other goals such as those that are vertically located at ground level or other playing surface levels.
[0006] Basketball rims 10 are made of solid ⅝ inch diameter high strength steel rod. Their fabrication involves bending and welding the steel rod into the desired shape. FIG. 1, FIG. 3, FIG. 4, and FIG. 5 show some of the possibilities. The rims 10 would have rounded corners 11 to facilitate fabrication and forming desired shape transitions. A well known standard flange 13 supports the rim 10 as necessary to provide stability. Also, well known connection systems 14 between the rim 10 and the backboard 15 and for the net connectors 12 are utilized. The drawings show just a few of the many possible shapes.
[0007] These rims 10 provide additional diversity in basketball shooting and defining shooter abilities. They help with quick identification of and focus on the target, concentration, constant adjustment in rim sight, and improving the ability to track and react. The center of the rim could, but would not need to change. They may be used wherever rims are used including basketball games, standalone basketball shooting contests, refining shooting skills, and recreation.DRAWINGS
