Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION(a) Field of the Invention
[0001] This invention relates to a device having a container lid with a freezable side compartment adapted for receipt over an open top food container, and more particularly, but not by way of limitation, to a flexible, container lid with a hollow side compartment. The hollow side compartment is filled with a freezable gel for keeping food and beverage cold inside the food container. The device has a brand name “Arctic Lid”.(b) Discussion of Prior Art
[0002] Heretofore, there have been various sizes and shapes of ice packs or cold packs used for keeping food and beverage cold during outdoor activities and other uses. None of the prior art cold packs are adapted for receipt over a lip of an open top container and along an outside of the container for keeping food items cold prior to use and keeping left over food cold in the container, after serving.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0003] In view of the foregoing, it is a primary objective of the subject invention to provide an easy and effective way of keeping food items stored in an open top container cold and prior to use and after serving of the food items.
[0004] Yet another object of the subject invention is the container lid and side compartment are flexible and stretchable for fitting around a lip of various sizes and shapes of open top containers and fitting downwardly around an outside of the containers. Also, the container lid and side compartment can be placed around a bottom portion of the containers and upwardly around the outside of the containers for keeping food cold when serving the food.
[0005] The invention includes a device with a flexible, stretchable, container lid and a flexible, stretchable, hollow side compartment. The hollow side compartment is attached around a circumference of the container lid. The hollow side compartment is filled with a freezable gel. Also, the hollow side compartment is adapted for receipt around a lip of an open top food container and downwardly around an outside of the container for keeping food products stored in the container cold.
[0006] These and other objects of the present invention will become apparent to those familiar with cold food storage when reviewing the following detailed description, showing novel construction, combination, and elements as herein described, and more particularly defined by the claims, it being understood that changes in the embodiments to the herein disclosed invention are meant to be included as coming within the scope of the claims, except insofar as they may be precluded by the prior art.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0007] The accompanying drawings illustrate complete preferred embodiments in the present invention according to the best modes presently devised for the practical application of the subject container lid and side compartment, and in which:
[0008] FIG. 1, a perspective view of the device having a container lid and a hollow side compartment.
[0009] FIG. 2 is a cross section of the container lid and the side compartment taken along lines 2-2, shown in FIG. 1.
[0010] FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the device with container lid and side compartment disposed above and positioned for receipt around a lip of an open top container and the outside of the container with food items shored therein.
[0011] FIG. 4 is a front view of the open top container with the container lid and side compartment. The side compartment is received around the lip of the container and downwardly around an outside of the container.
[0012] FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the open top container with the container lid and side compartment. The side compartment is disposed around a bottom portion of the container and upwardly around an outside of the container.DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0013] In FIG. 1, a perspective view of the subject device with container lid and side compartment is shown having general reference numeral 10. The device 10 includes a flexible, horizontal container lid 12, made of silicone and similar flat sheet material. Attached to a circumference of the lid 12 is a flexible, vertical hollow side compartment 14. The side compartment 14 is also made of a flexible material.
[0014] In FIG. 2, a cross section of the container lid 12 and the hollow side compartment 14 is shown taken along lines 2-2, shown in FIG. 1. In this drawing, the hollow side compartment 14 is shown filed with a freezable gel 16. The compartment has an oval shape prior to being compressed against the outside of the open top container. A diameter “X”, of the container lid 14, can be in a range of 4 to 12 inches and greater, for fitting on top of various size containers. A height “Y” of the compartment 14 is in a range of 1 to 3 inches.
[0015] In FIG. 3, a perspective view of the container lid 12 and the side compartment 14 are shown disposed above and positioned, as indicated by arrows 18, for receipt on top of and around a lip 20 of an open top container 22. The open top container 22 is shown with food items 24 shored therein.
[0016] In FIG. 4, a front view of the open top container 12 is shown with the container lid 12 on top of the container 22. The side compartment 14 is received around an outside of the lip 20 and down an outside of the container 22. The side compartment 14 can be extended downwardly along the outside of the container from 1 to 3 inches and greater. In this manner, the side compartment 14 can be placed next to various levels of food storied in the container for keeping the food cold.
[0017] In FIG. 5, a perspective view of the device 10 is shown with the side compartment 14 disposed around an outside of a bottom portion 26 of the container 22 and extending upwardly from 1 to 3 inches and greater. In this manner, the device 10 can continue to keep cold various levels of the food items 24 left over inside the container.
[0018] While the invention has been particularly shown, described and illustrated in detail with reference to the preferred embodiments and modifications thereof, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that equivalent changes in form and detail may be made therein without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention as claimed except as precluded by the prior art.
