Hybrid ported casing collar for downhole operations, and method for accessing a formation

Abstract

A hybrid ported casing collar that can be first actuated hydraulically, and subsequently operated mechanically to move the ports of an inner sleeve into alignment with the ports of an outer sleeve for jetting lateral tunnels and stimulating a geologic formation. Also provided are a method of avoiding frac hits and a method of hydraulically jetting tunnels in a pay zone from openhole access, and later stimulating the pay zone through the same tunnels in a rigless completion using the ported casing collar.
