[0002] A conventional single bed includes a frame in a specific size for supporting a single matrix. A conventional double bed includes a frame in a specific size for supporting a double matrix. The frame of the single bed does not support the double matrix. The frame of the double bed does not support the single matrix. Hence, a manufacturer must produce frames in at least two sizes, and a user such as an owner of a hotel must purchase and store frames in at least two sizes. This is a troublesome and expensive practice.
[0003] CN201879223U discloses a bed including a major frame and a minor frame. The major frame includes bars and four feet. The minor frame includes bars and three feet. Each of the bars of the minor frame is movably located between two of the bars of the major frame. Thus, the major frame is movable relative to the minor frame. Accordingly, the bed can be expanded and used as a double or shrunk and used as single bed. However, this bed is bulky and heavy.

[0005] It is the primary objective of the present invention to provide a light-weighted expansible bed.
[0006] To achieve the foregoing objective, the expansible bed includes crossbars and extensive bar units. The crossbars are separated from one another. Without the extensive bar units, the crossbars together provide a sufficient area for supporting a single matrix for example. With the extensive bar units connected to the crossbars, they together provide an area enough for supporting a double matrix for example.

[0016] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a bed 10 includes a matrix 16 supported on an expansible frame 12 according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The frame 12 includes two longitudinal bars 13 supported on feet 14, crossbars 15 supported on the longitudinal bars 13, and extensive bar units 20 connected to the crossbars 15. The crossbars 15 are separated from one another. Each of the extensive bar units 20 is connected to a corresponding end of the crossbars 15. An upper or lower face of the matrix 16 is larger than that of the expansible frame 12 without the extensive bar units 20. The upper or lower face of the matrix 16 is substantially as large as that of the expansible frame 12 with the extensive bar units 20.
[0017] Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, only one of the extensive bar units 20 is shown and will be referred to as “the extensive bar unit 20” in the following description for briefness. The extensive bar unit 20 includes a cover 21 for shielding an extensive bar 25. The cover 21 is used for an aesthetic purpose. To this end, the cover 21 is made of plastic by injection molding for example. The cover 21 includes two bent edges so that each of the bent edges provides a slot 22. Strips 23 are formed between the bent edges. An opening 24 is made between two adjacent ones of the strips 23.
[0018] The extensive bar 25 is used to provide strength. To this end, the extensive bar 25 is made of metal for example. The extensive bar 25 includes two bent edges (not numbered) respectively inserted in the slots 22. The extensive bar 25 includes a section extending in the cover 21, an insert 27 extending out of the cover 21 and an aperture 26 made in the insert 27.
[0019] The insert 27 is inserted in the corresponding end of the corresponding crossbar 15. The crossbar 15 includes an aperture 31 corresponding to the aperture 26. A fastener 30 such as a rivet is inserted in the apertures 31 and 26, thereby keeping the insert 27 in the end of the crossbar 15. The profile of the cover 21 is flush with the profile of the crossbar 15.
[0020] Referring to FIGS. 6 and 7, an extensive bar unit 40 includes an extensive bar 46 shielded by a cover 41. The extensive bar 46 is used to provide strength. To this end, the extensive bar 46 is made of metal for example. The extensive bar 46 includes two apertures 47 respectively adjacent to two ends.
[0021] The cover 41 is used for an aesthetic purpose. Hence, the cover 41 is made of plastic, for example, by injection molding. The cover 41 includes a tube 43 and reinforcement ribs 44. The cover 41 includes two terminal sections. An aperture 45 is made in the first terminal section of the cover 41. Another aperture 45 is made in the second terminal section of the cover 41. The second terminal section of the cover 41 is used as an insert 42.
[0022] The apertures 47 are respectively in communication with the apertures 45 when the extensive bar 46 is inserted in the tube 43. A fastener 32 such as a rivet is inserted in the aperture 45 in the first terminal section of the cover 41 and the aperture 47 adjacent to the first end of the extensive bar 46, thereby keeping the extensive bar 46 in the cover 41.
[0023] In use, the insert 42 is inserted in the corresponding end of crossbar 15. The corresponding fastener 32 is inserted in the aperture 31 of the corresponding crossbar 15 and the apertures 45 and 47, thereby keeping the extensive bar unit 40 on the corresponding crossbar 15.

Those skilled in the art can derive variations from the embodiments without departing from the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the embodiments shall not limit the scope of the present invention defined in the claims.
Claims
1. A bed frame comprising crossbars separated from one another and extensive bar units respectively connected to the crossbars.
2. The bed frame according to claim 1, wherein each of the extensive bar units comprises an extensive bar connected to a corresponding one of the crossbars and a cover for shielding the extensive bar.
3. The bed frame according to claim 2, wherein the extensive bar comprises a first section inserted in and connected to the corresponding crossbar and a second section shielded by the cover.
4. The bed frame according to claim 1, wherein each of the extensive bar units comprises an extensive bar and a cover for shielding the extensive bar, wherein the cover comprises a section connected to a corresponding one of the crossbars.
5. The bed frame according to claim 4, wherein the section of the cover is inserted in the corresponding crossbar.
6. The bed frame according to claim 1, wherein the cover comprises a tube for receiving the extensive bar.
