[0043] This description may use the phrases "in one embodiment," "in another embodiment," "in a further embodiment," or "in other embodiments," each of which may refer to one or more of the same or different embodiments according to the present disclosure.

[0044] Liquid crystal display modules typically combine an LCD panel with a backlight structure to produce images. Currently, conventional backlight structures utilize a Mini LED array, with a uniform light film and other materials placed on the Mini LED light board (including the substrate, Mini LED lamp beads, and protective adhesive) to uniformly distribute light to achieve the desired display effect.

[0045] However, the size of a single Mini LED lamp bead is significantly larger than the pixel size, that is, the range of light emission when the Mini LED lamp bead is lit is much larger than the range of the image displayed by a single pixel of the display panel. Since the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal display panel have an initial deflection angle, when the panel displays the picture, when the Mini LED lamp bead corresponding to the pixel located at the edge of the picture is lit, light will be emitted from the pixels in the adjacent non-display area, causing light leakage and forming a halo, as shown in Figure 1, which seriously affects the user experience.

[0046] In order to solve the above problems, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides a liquid crystal display module, a hierarchical structure diagram of the liquid crystal display module is shown in Figure 2, which mainly includes a substrate 10, a light-emitting layer 20 arranged on the surface of one side of the substrate 10, a light-regulating layer 30 arranged on the side of the light-emitting layer 20 away from the substrate 10, and a liquid crystal display panel 40 arranged on the side of the light-regulating layer 30 away from the light-emitting layer 20. By setting the light-regulating layer 30, the direction of the light emitted by the light-emitting layer 20 is adjusted to avoid light leakage.

[0047] Exemplarily, the light-emitting layer 20 includes a plurality of lamp beads 21 arranged in an array, and the lamp beads 21 are mainly Mini LED lamp beads; the light-regulating layer 30 includes at least a plurality of light-regulating units 31, and the number of the light-regulating units 31 is the same as the number of the lamp beads 21 and is arranged in a one-to-one correspondence, so that the orthographic projection of each light-regulating unit 31 on the substrate 10 completely covers the orthographic projection of its corresponding lamp bead 21 on the substrate 10, so as to ensure that the light emitted by the lamp bead 21 can be adjusted in the light-emitting direction through its corresponding light-regulating unit 31; the liquid crystal display panel 40 includes at least a plurality of pixels 41 arranged in an array, and when the liquid crystal display panel 40 actually displays the picture, the light is turned on by lighting the lamp beads. 21 makes its emitted light irradiate the pixel 41 area to realize pixel lighting. Each pixel 41 can be lit by at least one lamp bead 21, that is, the orthographic projection of each pixel 41 on the substrate 10 overlaps with the orthographic projection of at least one lamp bead 21 on the substrate. When the pixel 41 is located at the junction of two lamp beads 21 or even four lamp beads 21, the orthographic projection of the pixel 41 on the substrate 10 overlaps with the orthographic projections of two or four lamp beads 21 on the substrate 10 at the same time. To light up the pixel 41, it is necessary to light up the above two or four lamp beads at the same time.

[0048] In this embodiment, the light control unit 31 can be implemented by a liquid crystal unit 310. Figure 3 shows a schematic diagram of the hierarchical structure of the liquid crystal unit 310. As shown in Figure 3, the liquid crystal unit 310 includes at least a first plate 311 and a second plate 312 disposed opposite each other on the side of the lamp bead 21 away from the substrate 10. Liquid crystal molecules 313 are filled between the first plate 311 and the second plate 312. The liquid crystal molecules 313 can be deflected based on the power supply of the first plate 311 and the second plate 312, thereby controlling the direction of light emission. For example, when no electric field is formed between the first electrode plate 311 and the second electrode plate 312, multiple liquid crystal molecules 313 are irregularly distributed, and the liquid crystal unit 310 is in a diffused state, as shown in Figure 4, that is, the long axis directions of different liquid crystal molecules 313 are different. At this time, when the light is emitted from the side of the second electrode plate 312, it is in a strong light scattering state, which can further achieve a uniform light effect and ensure the uniformity of the picture display; when the first electrode plate 311 and the second electrode plate 312 are energized to form an electric field, as shown in Figure 5, all liquid crystal molecules 313 will be deflected so that their long axes are parallel to the direction of the electric field. At this time, the liquid crystal unit 310 is in a transparent straight-through state and will not scatter light, so that all light entering the liquid crystal unit 310 is emitted in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the second electrode plate 312, thereby realizing the regulation of the light emission direction and avoiding the scattering of light in other directions to cause light leakage.

[0049] When actually presenting an image, the driver chip determines which pixels 41 in the liquid crystal display panel 40 need to be illuminated and which pixels 41 do not need to be illuminated, or determines the grayscale that each pixel needs to present, based at least on the image to be presented. In this embodiment, the pixels 41 are divided into at least a first type of pixels having a first grayscale and a second type of pixels having a second grayscale, where the first grayscale is higher than the second grayscale. Taking the final image shown in Figure 1 as an example, after all the first-class pixels are lit, an "X"-shaped pattern is presented, and the remaining second-class pixels do not need to be lit. The first grayscale of the first-class pixels is significantly higher than the second grayscale of the second-class pixels. At this time, among all the first-class pixels, the liquid crystal cells set on the lamp beads corresponding to all the first-class pixels adjacent to the second-class pixels can be controlled to be in a straight-through state. The first-class pixels adjacent to the second-class pixels are the pixels located at the edge of the pattern among all the first-class pixels. Adjusting the liquid crystal cells corresponding to the first-class pixels located at the edge to the straight-through state can control the light to be emitted in the vertical direction, preventing it from being scattered into the second-class pixels and causing light leakage; while the liquid crystal cells set on the lamp beads corresponding to the first-class pixels not adjacent to the second-class pixels among all the first-class pixels are in a scattering state. The first-class pixels not adjacent to the second-class pixels can be considered to be located at the center of the pattern. Adjusting the liquid crystal cells corresponding to these first-class pixels to the scattering state can achieve a uniform light effect, ensuring the uniformity of the picture display, and can save the number of uniformity films when actually setting the LCD display module layer. Figure 6 shows a schematic diagram of the liquid crystal unit states corresponding to the first type of pixels in this embodiment. It can be seen from Figure 6 that the liquid crystal units corresponding to the pixels close to the edge of the pattern are set to the through state, and the liquid crystal units corresponding to the remaining pixels are set to the scattering state.

[0050] In some embodiments, the first electrode plate 311 and the second electrode plate 312 can both be made of a transparent conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) material, or other materials with conductive properties and good light transmittance can be used. In addition, the first electrode plate 311 and the second electrode plate 312 in each liquid crystal unit 31 are each controlled by an independent driving circuit. In actual use, the deflection angle of the liquid crystal molecules 313 can be achieved by adjusting the voltage applied to the first electrode plate 311 and the second electrode plate 312. In addition, in addition to being filled with liquid crystal molecules 313, a support member (Post Spacer, PS) can be set between the first electrode plate 311 and the second electrode plate 312, or a transparent and supportive material such as micro glass balls can be mixed to ensure the overall support performance of the display module.

[0051] Figure 7 shows another schematic diagram of the hierarchical structure of the liquid crystal display module in this embodiment. As shown in Figure 7, the liquid crystal display module also includes a first protective layer 51 and a second protective layer 52. The first protective layer 51 is disposed between the light control layer 30 and the light-emitting layer 20, while the second protective layer 52 is disposed on the side of the light control layer 30 away from the light-emitting layer 20. This effectively sandwiches the light control layer 30 between the first and second protective layers 51, 52. The liquid crystal display panel 40 can be positioned on the other side of the second protective layer 52 away from the light control layer 30. The first and second protective layers 51, 52 protect the light control layer 30 and also fill the gaps between the light control cells 31. In actual manufacturing, the first and second plates of the liquid crystal cells 310 can be plated on the opposing surfaces of the first and second protective layers 51, 52 according to the position of the lamp beads. After the cell is assembled, the liquid crystal molecules 313 are filled. Finally, the combined first and second protective layers 51, 52, and the liquid crystal cells 310 are pressed onto the light-emitting layer 20 by molding. Exemplarily, the first protective layer 51 and the second protective layer 52 may be provided independently, that is, in some embodiments only the first protective layer 51 is provided, and in some embodiments only the second protective layer 52 is provided.

[0052] It should be noted that the first grayscale and the second grayscale in this embodiment are only used to refer to two different grayscale values, which refers to the grayscale difference presented by pixels in the display area and the non-display area. Under normal circumstances, when the difference between the first grayscale and the second grayscale is large, the halo problem will be more obvious. For example, the first grayscale is 255 and the second grayscale is 0. If the difference between the two is small (for example, below 50), it is equivalent to the first type of pixel and the second type of pixel both emitting light, but there is a difference in brightness. At this time, the halo problem may not be very obvious and has no effect on the user's actual perception. Therefore, this embodiment can be limited to use when displaying any picture, or it can be implemented only when the grayscale difference between adjacent pixels is large (for example, when it is greater than a preset grayscale threshold). It can be selected according to actual conditions and this embodiment does not impose any restrictions.

[0053] In some embodiments, the light control unit 31 may further include at least an electrochromic layer 320, as shown in FIG8 . The electrochromic layer 320 is made of an electrochromic material and is uniformly covered on the surface of the lamp beads 21. The electrochromic layer 320 can change to different colors such as black and gray, and change to different forms based on the power supply. In different colors, it can present characteristics such as a light-transmitting state or a light-blocking state. For example, when no voltage is applied, the electrochromic layer 320 is in a light-transmitting state, at which time light can pass through the electrochromic layer 320 and illuminate the liquid crystal display panel. However, when a voltage is applied, the electrochromic layer 320 is in a light-blocking state, at which time light cannot pass through the electrochromic layer 320. Therefore, when displaying a pattern, the electrochromic layer 320 corresponding to the second type of pixels adjacent to the first type of pixels, or even all the second type of pixels, can be adjusted to a light-blocking state. In this way, even if the light beads of the first type of pixels scatter light into the non-display area, the light will be blocked by the electrochromic layer in the light-blocking state, and no halo effect will be formed.

[0054] In some embodiments, each electrogenic layer 320 can be divided into multiple electrogenic sub-regions 321, as shown in Figures 8 and 9. Figure 9 is a top-down schematic diagram of Figure 8. At this time, the electrogenic layer 320 is evenly divided into 9 electrogenic sub-regions 321 (this example only takes the division into 9 electrogenic sub-regions as an example for illustration. In other examples, the number of divided electrogenic sub-regions can be determined as needed). They are arranged in a 3*3 array. Each electrogenic sub-region 321 can be independently driven to adjust its light-transmitting state or light-blocking state. This can achieve more precise light-emitting control and ensure better anti-light leakage effect. In actual implementation, the electrolayer 320 corresponding to each lamp bead 21 can be connected to the lamp bead 21 through a circuit, that is, the electrolayer 320 can be powered by the power supply method of the lamp bead 21, and the circuit is used to control whether the electrolayer 320 is powered, and can control the voltage value applied to the electrolayer 320. The electrolayer 320 can present different degrees of light transmittance or light blocking characteristics according to the size of the applied voltage; when the electrolayer 320 is divided into multiple electroregions 321, a circuit is provided for each electroregion 321 to control whether voltage is applied thereto. One end of the above multiple circuits is connected to the lamp bead 21, and the other end is connected to different electroregions 321 respectively. The circuit also has a control end connected to the driver chip to realize the on and off of the circuit.

[0055] It should be noted that in Figure 9, each electrochromic region 321 is represented by a different color block. Each electrochromic region 321 can be independently controlled to have different light-transmitting properties, and this does not mean that a single electrochromic region 321 can only be in a light-transmitting or light-blocking state. Furthermore, the electrochromic material used to form the electrochromic layer 320 in this embodiment can be directly made of conventional materials such as polypyrrole, polythiophene, or polyaniline, and this embodiment is not limited thereto.

[0056] This embodiment adds a light control layer to the hierarchical structure of the liquid crystal display module. By controlling the direction of light emitted by its corresponding lamp beads through each light control unit, it is possible to prevent the light from the lamp beads corresponding to pixels at the edge of the display screen from diverging toward pixels in other non-display areas during actual display. This optimizes the halo effect formed at the edge of the display screen, effectively improving the display effect and user experience of the liquid crystal display module. Figure 10 shows a schematic diagram of the display effect of the liquid crystal display module after improvement according to the disclosed embodiment. Compared with the obvious light leakage phenomenon in Figure 1, the boundary between the illuminated and unilluminated parts in Figure 10 is clear, no halo is generated, and the display effect is better.

[0057] The embodiments of the present disclosure also provide an electronic device, which includes at least a liquid crystal display module as described in the first embodiment of the present disclosure. By adding a light control layer to the hierarchical structure of the liquid crystal display module, each light control unit controls the direction of light emitted by its corresponding lamp bead, which can prevent the light from the lamp bead corresponding to the pixel at the edge of the display screen from diverging to the pixels in other non-display areas during actual display, optimizes the halo effect formed at the edge of the display screen, and effectively improves the display effect and user experience of the liquid crystal display module. In actual implementation, electronic devices mainly refer to notebook computers, monitors, smart TVs, tablet computers, etc. with high display effect requirements and are of medium and large sizes. When using such devices, users are mainly concerned about the display experience. Therefore, by improving the liquid crystal display module in the electronic device, the light leakage effect of the liquid crystal display panel can be effectively improved, so that the electronic device as a whole has a better viewing experience.
