Abstract
Description
Electronic device and method for connecting a passive element to an antenna using the same
[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an electronic device and a method for connecting a passive element to an antenna using the same.
[0002] With recent technological advancements, electronic devices are gradually evolving beyond their standard rectangular form and into increasingly diverse shapes. For example, to enhance user convenience, electronic devices are gradually evolving into wearable electronic devices that can be worn on certain parts of the body. Wearable electronic devices include antennas (e.g., antenna radiators) that support various frequency bands. For example, a wearable electronic device may include multiple antennas for wireless communication, such as LTE (long term evolution) and Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity), and short-range communication, such as Bluetooth.
[0003] Electronic devices (e.g., wearable electronic devices) have limitations in size and weight due to their nature of being worn at least partially on a user's body, and the space for mounting various parts (e.g., components) inside may be further restricted. The electronic device may utilize at least a portion of a metal frame (e.g., a plate, a stainless steel (SUS) plate) constituting a housing as an antenna radiator. For example, the electronic device may utilize at least a portion of a metal member (e.g., a fixing member, a plate, STS (steel type stainless), SUS (steel use stainless), stainless steel, stainless steel, a bracket) included in the housing as an antenna radiator.
[0004] The above information may be provided as background art to aid in understanding the present disclosure. No claim or determination is made as to whether any of the above-described matters constitute prior art related to the present disclosure.
[0005] Electronic devices (e.g., wearable devices, wearable watches) may have a structure in which multiple components are arranged within a narrow internal space. Depending on changes in the communication environment, the ground conditions or electrical characteristics of each component installed within the internal space of the electronic device may change significantly. In particular, antenna efficiency in relatively low frequency bands (e.g., approximately 600 MHz to approximately 900 MHz) is greatly affected by the remaining capacity of the battery (e.g., the remaining battery capacity out of the total battery capacity) arranged between the radiator (e.g., the SUS of the battery) and the printed circuit board (PCB). For example, the thickness of the battery may change depending on the remaining capacity, and this change in battery thickness may cause a problem in which communication performance by the radiator and the printed circuit board deteriorates. Electronic devices may experience problems with reduced communication performance in a set first frequency band (e.g., a relatively low frequency band, such as a band of about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz) depending on the remaining battery capacity.
[0006] According to one embodiment, when a fixed member (e.g., SUS structure) functioning as an antenna radiator is electrically connected to a printed circuit board, a communication circuit included in the printed circuit board may include a switch module (e.g., RF switch) and at least one passive element. According to one embodiment, the electronic device may control the switch module (e.g., RF switch) so that at least one passive element is connected to an antenna radiator corresponding to a first frequency band according to a remaining amount of a battery (e.g., remaining amount), and a passive element value corresponding to the connected passive element may be set so as to be applied to the antenna radiator.
[0007] According to one embodiment, an electronic device may be provided that controls a switch module (e.g., an RF switch) to connect at least one passive element to an antenna radiator based on remaining battery capacity information and a first frequency band.

[0011] According to one embodiment, a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium (or, a computer program product) storing one or more programs for executing a method of connecting a passive element to an antenna of an electronic device may be described. According to one embodiment, the one or more programs may include instructions that, when executed by a processor of the electronic device, perform an operation of checking a remaining capacity of a battery (470) disposed between a fixing member (460) including a supporting member that functions as an antenna corresponding to a first frequency band, and a printed circuit board (480) including a communication circuit (190) electrically connected to the fixing member (460), an operation of checking information (602) related to a passive element to be connected to the fixing member (460) based on the checked remaining capacity of the battery (470) and the first frequency band, an operation of selecting at least one passive element from among a plurality of passive elements based on the checked passive element-related information (602), and an operation of controlling a switch (610) so that the at least one selected passive element and the fixing member (460) are electrically connected.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the electronic device can check the remaining amount of the battery, and based on the remaining amount of the battery, select at least one passive element connected to a first antenna radiator corresponding to a first frequency band (e.g., a band of about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz). For example, the at least one passive element can apply a passive element value to the first antenna radiator. The electronic device can select the at least one passive element so that the passive element value corresponding to the set passive element is applied to the first antenna radiator corresponding to the first frequency band.

According to one embodiment, the antenna structure may be formed by at least a portion of the side bezel structure (206), the front plate (201), and / or the fixing member (460), or a combination thereof. According to one embodiment, the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) may be electrically connected, and an electric field (E-field, electronic field) may be formed based on the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480). The electronic device (101) can transmit and receive communication signals based on the formed electric field (E-field), and can utilize at least a part of the fixed member (460) as an antenna.
[0063] The sealing member (490) may include a single seal and may be positioned between the side bezel structure (206) and the rear plate (207). [0064] The sensor module (211) (e.g., a biometric sensor) may include at least one sensor and may be disposed adjacent to the back plate (207). For example, when the electronic device (101) is worn on a body part of the wearer (e.g., a wrist), the back plate (207) may be disposed in a state of at least partial contact with the body part. The sensor module (211) may be disposed in a form directed toward the body part (e.g., a wrist, skin). The sensor module (211) may transmit signals of various wavelength bands to the body part of the wearer. The electronic device (101) may obtain various biometric information (e.g., information related to heartbeat, information related to blood sugar, and / or oxygen saturation) based on signals of the wavelength bands reflected, scattered, and / or absorbed from the body part of the wearer. According to one embodiment, the back plate (207) may be implemented in a form in which a back window (207a) is at least partially coupled so that the above-described signals may be transmitted.
[0065] Referring to FIG. 5, a battery (470) may be disposed between a fixing member (460) and a printed circuit board (480) and may supply power to at least one of the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480). The fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) may be electrically connected via at least one connecting member (520) (e.g., a conductive member, a conductive screw, a metallic connecting member). For example, the printed circuit board (480) may supply an electrical signal to the fixing member (460).
[0066] According to one embodiment, the thickness (510) of the battery (470) may change based on the remaining amount (e.g., remaining amount). For example, as the remaining amount of the battery (470) decreases, the thickness (510) of the battery (470) may become thinner. According to one embodiment, the arrangement of the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) is implemented in a shape substantially like a capacitor (e.g., a structure in which the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) are arranged side by side), and the fixing member (460) may at least partially perform a function like a capacitor. For example, the electronic device (101) may form an electric field (E-field) based on the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480), and may radiate a communication signal while utilizing at least a portion of the fixing member (460) as an antenna. According to one embodiment, the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) can implement an electric field corresponding to a first frequency band (e.g., about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz), and the fixing member (460) can be at least partially utilized as a radiator (e.g., an antenna radiator). According to one embodiment, the electric field formed based on the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) can change in communication performance depending on a change in the thickness of the battery (470) disposed between the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480). For example, when the remaining capacity of the battery (470) decreases and the thickness of the battery (470) becomes thinner, the communication performance according to the electric field can deteriorate.
[0067] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can check the remaining amount of the battery (470), and, based on the checked remaining amount of the battery (470), can adjust the value of the passive element connected to the fixing member (460) (e.g., the first antenna radiator, the antenna radiator corresponding to the first frequency band (e.g., about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz band)). For example, when the remaining amount of the battery (470) is checked to be less than a set threshold value, the electronic device (101) can control the switch module (e.g., an RF switch) to increase the value of the passive element connected to the fixing member (460). According to one embodiment, when the remaining amount of the battery (470) falls below a certain level (e.g., the set threshold value), the electronic device (101) can relatively increase the value of the passive element connected to the fixing member (460), and can optimally maintain communication performance based on the fixing member (460). Electronic devices can maintain optimal communication performance across communication frequency bands without being affected by remaining battery power.
[0068] FIG. 6 is a block diagram of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0069] The electronic device (101) of FIG. 6 (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1) may be at least partially similar to the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, or may further include other embodiments of the electronic device. For example, the electronic device (101) may include a wearable electronic device that can be worn on a part of the human body. The electronic device (101) may have a narrow internal space for mounting at least one component.
[0070] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may utilize at least some of the components mounted therein as antenna radiators. For example, the electronic device (101) may include a fixing member (e.g., fixing member (460) of FIG. 4) for fixing at least one component (e.g., battery (470) of FIG. 4) and a printed circuit board (e.g., printed circuit board (480) of FIG. 4) on which at least one passive element (e.g., inductor, capacitor, resistor) is disposed, and the electronic device (101) may be implemented with a structure in which the battery (470) is disposed between the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480). The electronic device (101) may utilize at least part of the fixing member (460) as an antenna radiator. For example, the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) may be electrically connected through a connecting member (e.g., the connecting member (520) of FIG. 5, a conductive member). According to one embodiment, an electric field (E-field) may be formed based on the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480), and the electronic device (101) may transmit and receive a communication signal based on the formed electric field. The electronic device (101) may utilize at least a portion of the fixing member (460) as an antenna radiator.
[0071] According to one embodiment, the battery (470) disposed between the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) may at least partially influence the formation of the electric field. For example, the thickness of the battery (470) may change depending on the remaining capacity (e.g., remaining capacity), and as the thickness of the battery (470) changes, the communication performance according to the electric field may change. For example, when the remaining capacity of the battery (470) decreases below a set threshold value, the thickness of the battery (470) becomes relatively thinner. If the thickness of the battery (470) disposed between the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) becomes thinner, the communication performance according to the electric field formed based on the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) may deteriorate.
[0072] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may check the remaining capacity of the battery (470) and, in response to a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (470) falls below a set threshold value, change a passive element (e.g., a capacitor) connected to the fixed member (460). For example, the fixed member (460) may be electrically connected to a plurality of passive elements arranged on a printed circuit board (480) through a switch module (e.g., an RF switch). The electronic device (101) may control the switch module so that at least one passive element among the plurality of passive elements is electrically connected to the fixed member (460). For example, the passive element may include a capacitor, and the connection of the passive element to the fixed member (460) may mean that the capacitance value of the capacitor is supplied to the fixed member (460). For example, when a first capacitor (e.g., a first capacitor value) is connected to a fixed member (460), and a passive element (e.g., a second capacitor) is additionally connected to the fixed member (460), a third capacitor value that is the sum of the first capacitor value of the first capacitor and the second capacitor value of the second capacitor may be applied to the fixed member (460). When a passive element (e.g., a capacitor) is connected to the fixed member (460), a passive element value based on the passive element (e.g., a capacitor value based on the capacitor) may be additionally applied to the fixed member (460).
[0073] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can control the switch circuit so that the first passive element and the second passive element are connected together to the fixed member (460), and in this case, the first passive element value according to the first passive element and the second passive element value according to the second passive element can be supplied in parallel by being added to the fixed member (460). The electronic device (101) can supply a relatively high passive element value (e.g., capacitor value) based on the first frequency band corresponding to the fixed member (460), and can implement it by optimizing the communication performance according to the first frequency band. The electronic device (101) can enhance the communication efficiency in the first frequency band.
[0074] Referring to FIG. 6, the electronic device (101) may include a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1, processing circuitry), memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 1), switch (610), battery (e.g., battery (189) of FIG. 1), and / or communication circuitry (e.g., communication module (190) of FIG. 1). For example, the processor (120) of the electronic device (101) may be operatively or electrically connected to the memory (130), the battery (189), the switch (610), and the communication circuitry (190). In one embodiment, the hardwares of the electronic device (101) being operatively coupled may mean that a direct connection or an indirect connection is established between the hardwares, either wired or wireless, such that a second hardware is controlled by a first hardware among the hardwares. The processor (120) can at least partially control the switch (610) so that at least one passive element among the plurality of passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614) is connected to the communication circuit (190). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can select a passive element to be connected to the communication circuit (190) based on the remaining amount of the battery (189), and control the switch (610) so that the selected passive element is connected to the communication circuit (190). In response to a situation where the remaining amount of the battery (189) falls below a set threshold, the electronic device (101) can increase a capacitor value supplied to the communication circuit (190), and can implement communication performance more efficiently.
[0075] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) of the electronic device (101) may include various processing circuitry and / or multiple processors. For example, the term "processor" as used herein, including in the claims, may include various processing circuitry including at least one processor. One or more of the at least one processor may be configured to perform the various functions described herein, individually and / or collectively, in a distributed manner. As used herein, when "processor," "at least one processor," and "one or more processors" are described as being configured to perform various functions, these terms may encompass, for example, without limitation, a situation where a single processor performs all of the recited functions, where a single processor performs some of the recited functions and other processor(s) perform other of the recited functions. Additionally, the at least one processor may include a combination of processors that perform the various functions enumerated / disclosed in a distributed manner. The at least one processor may execute program instructions to achieve or perform the various functions. According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may execute a program stored in the memory (130) (e.g., the program (140) of FIG. 1) to control at least one other component (e.g., a hardware or software component) and perform various data processing or operations. For example, the processor (120) may check the remaining capacity of the battery (189) and, in response to a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (189) falls below a set threshold, at least partially control the switch (610) to connect at least one passive element to the communication circuit (190).According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may be operatively, functionally, and / or electrically connected to memory (130), a battery (189), a switch (610), and / or a communication circuit (190).
[0076] According to one embodiment, the memory (130) may store battery remaining power information (601) including information on at least one threshold value (e.g., a first threshold value, a second threshold value) related to the remaining power of the battery (189). For example, the processor (120) may determine, based on the battery remaining power information (601) stored in the memory (130), whether the remaining power of the battery (189) has fallen below the first threshold value or whether the remaining power of the battery (189) has fallen below the second threshold value. For example, the first threshold value and the second threshold value may include reference values for triggering the switch (610).
[0077] According to one embodiment, the memory (130) may store information (e.g., passive element related information (602)) regarding at least one passive element connected to the communication circuit (190) according to the remaining amount of the battery. For example, the passive element related information (602) may include first passive element information connected to the communication circuit (190) in response to a situation where the remaining amount of the battery (189) is less than a first threshold value, and second passive element information connected to the communication circuit (190) in response to a situation where the remaining amount of the battery (189) is less than a second threshold value.
[0078] According to one embodiment, the passive element related information (602) may include combination information in which at least one passive element is selected based on a plurality of passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614). For example, a first passive element (611), a second passive element (612), a third passive element (613), and a fourth passive element (614), a total of four passive elements, may be combined in about 16 combinations.
[0079] Battery remaining information combination method Setting information 1st threshold RF10 2nd threshold RF21 3rd threshold RF1+RF22 ......... 14th threshold RF3+RF4 13 15th threshold RF2+RF3+RF4 14 16th threshold RF1+RF2+RF3+RF4 15
[0080] (Referring to Table 1), the processor (120) can set a plurality of thresholds (e.g., about 16 thresholds) and can set a combination method corresponding to each threshold. For example, in response to a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (189) falls below a first threshold, the processor (120) can select a first passive element (611) (e.g., RF1) based on passive element-related information (602) (e.g., Table 1), and control the switch (610) to connect the first passive element (611) to the communication circuit (190). For example, in response to a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (189) falls below a third threshold value, the processor (120) may select a first passive element (611) (e.g., RF1) and a second passive element (612) (e.g., RF2) together based on the passive element related information (602) (e.g., Table 1), and control the switch (610) so that the first passive element (611) and the second passive element (612) are connected simultaneously or together to the communication circuit (190). When a plurality of passive elements are connected simultaneously or together, a first passive element value according to the first passive element (611) and a second passive element value according to the second passive element (612) may be added and applied to the communication circuit (190).
[0081] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) can set a plurality of threshold values, each corresponding to a combination method, and store them in the memory (130) as passive element-related information (602).
[0082] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may detect a situation in which the remaining amount of the battery (189) falls below a set threshold based on the battery remaining amount information (601). In response to detecting the situation, the processor (120) may check a combination method set in response to the set threshold based on the passive element related information (602). The processor (120) may select at least one passive element from among a plurality of passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614) according to the checked combination method, and may control the switch (610) so that the selected at least one passive element is connected to the communication circuit (190).
[0083] According to one embodiment, the switch (610) may electrically connect at least one passive element among a plurality of passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614) to the communication circuit (190) under the control of the processor (120). For example, the switch (610) may include an RF switch, a switch device, and / or a switch circuit. According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may control the switch (610) to connect at least one passive element to the communication circuit (190). For example, when a first passive element (611) is connected to the communication circuit (190), a first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (611) may be applied to the communication circuit (190). For example, when the first passive element (611) is a first capacitor, the first passive element value may include a first capacitor value of the first capacitor. For another example, when a first passive element (611) and a second passive element (612) are connected to a communication circuit (190), the communication circuit (190) may be in a state where the first passive element (611) and the second passive element (612) are connected in parallel, and the communication circuit (190) may be in a state where the first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (611) and the second passive element value corresponding to the second passive element (612) are added and applied. For example, when a first passive element (611) having a first capacitor value (C1), a second passive element (612) having a second capacitor value (C2), and a third passive element (613) having a third capacitor value (C3) are connected in parallel through a switch (610), the total summed capacitor value (Ctotal=C1+C2+C3) can be used for antenna resonance of a specific frequency band. According to one embodiment, when a plurality of passive elements are connected in parallel, the electronic device (101) can sum the passive element values according to the plurality of passive elements and apply the summed passive element value to the fixing member (460).
[0084] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may be configured to sum the passive element values of each passive element based on at least one passive element connected to the communication circuit (190), and the summed passive element values may be supplied to the communication circuit (190).
[0085] According to one embodiment, the communication circuit (190) may be electrically connected to at least one antenna corresponding to a plurality of communication frequency bands, and may perform a plurality of communications based on the plurality of communication frequency bands. For example, the electronic device (101) may utilize some of the components included in a housing (e.g., the housing (210) of FIG. 2) as an antenna (e.g., an antenna radiator). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may include a structure in which a printed circuit board (e.g., a printed circuit board (480) of FIG. 4) is electrically connected to a fixing member (e.g., a fixing member (460) of FIG. 4) via a conductive member (e.g., a conductive member (520) of FIG. 5). The processor (120) may utilize at least a portion of the fixing member (460), or a conductive material at least partially deposited on the fixing member (460), as an antenna (e.g., an antenna radiator). For example, the fixed member (460) can function as an antenna radiator corresponding to the first frequency band.
[0086] According to one embodiment, the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) can be arranged in a form in which they are arranged side by side, like a capacitor, and can substantially function as a capacitor. For example, the electronic device (101) can form an electric field (e.g., an electric field (E-field) corresponding to a first communication frequency band) based on the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480), and can transmit and receive a communication signal using the formed electric field.
[0087] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) can check the remaining capacity of the battery (189) according to a set cycle or time point, and can detect a situation in which the remaining capacity of the battery (189) falls below a set threshold value. In response to detecting the situation, the processor (120) can electrically connect at least one passive element to the fixing member (460). For example, the processor (120) can control the switch (610) to connect a plurality of passive elements to the fixing member (460), and can apply a summed passive element value according to the plurality of passive elements to the fixing member (460). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can adjust the passive element value applied to the fixing member (460) in forming an electric field corresponding to the first communication frequency band, and can implement optimal communication performance according to the first communication frequency.
[0088] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1) may include a printed circuit board (e.g., printed circuit board (480) of FIG. 5) including a battery (e.g., battery (470) of FIG. 5), a fixing member (e.g., fixing member (460) of FIG. 5) disposed on one surface of the battery (470) and functioning as an antenna corresponding to a first frequency band (e.g., about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz), and a communication circuit (e.g., communication circuit (190) of FIGS. 1 and 6) disposed on the other surface of the battery (470) and electrically connected to the fixing member (460). The electronic device (101) may include a switch (e.g., a switch (610) of FIG. 6, an RF switch) for electrically connecting at least one passive element among a plurality of passive elements to a fixing member (460), a memory (e.g., a memory (130) of FIGS. 1 and 6), and a communication circuit (190), a processor (e.g., a processor (120) of FIGS. 1 and 6) operatively connected to the switch (610) and the memory (130). According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may check the remaining capacity of the battery (470). Based on the checked remaining capacity of the battery (470) and the first frequency band, the processor (120) may check passive element-related information (602) to be connected to the fixing member (460). Based on the checked passive element-related information (602), the processor (120) may select at least one passive element among the plurality of passive elements. The processor (120) can control the switch (610) to electrically connect at least one selected passive element and the fixed member (460).
[0089] According to one embodiment, the fixed member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) can be electrically connected using at least one conductive member (e.g., the conductive member (520) of FIG. 5, the connecting member).
[0090] According to one embodiment, the fixed member (460) may include at least one antenna element for use as an antenna radiator.
[0091] According to one embodiment, the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480) may be arranged parallel to each other, substantially identical to the shape of a capacitor.
[0092] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) can identify an electric field (e.g., E-field) generated based on a fixed member (460) and a printed circuit board (480) arranged in a capacitor shape. The processor (120) can transmit and receive a communication signal based on the identified electric field.
[0093] According to one embodiment, the battery (470) is disposed between the fixing member (460) and the printed circuit board (480), and the thickness of the battery (470) can be at least partially deformed depending on the remaining capacity of the battery (470).
[0094] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) can determine whether the remaining capacity of the identified battery (470) is below a set threshold. In response to a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (470) is below the set threshold, the processor (120) can select at least one passive element corresponding to the first frequency band.
[0095] According to one embodiment, the at least one passive component may include at least one capacitor, inductor, or resistor.
[0096] According to one embodiment, when a first passive element (611) and a second passive element (612) are selected together from among a plurality of passive elements, the processor (120) may control the switch (610) so that the first passive element (611) and the second passive element (612) are electrically connected to the fixed member (460). The processor (120) may add a first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (611) and a second passive element value corresponding to the second passive element (612). The processor (120) may apply the added passive element value to the fixed member (460).
[0097] According to one embodiment, the first frequency band may include a band of about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz. The fixed member (460) may include a stainless steel plate (SUS plate). The at least one passive component may include at least one of at least one capacitor, at least one inductor, and at least one resistor.
[0098] FIG. 7 is a flowchart illustrating a method of connecting a passive element to an antenna radiator of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0099] In the following examples, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily sequential. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel.
[0100] According to one embodiment, operations 701 to 709 may be understood to be performed in a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIGS. 1 and 6) of an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIGS. 1 to 6).
[0101] The electronic device (101) of FIG. 7 may be at least partially similar to the electronic device (101) of FIGS. 1 to 6, or may further include other embodiments of the electronic device. The electronic device (101) may utilize some of the components included in a housing (e.g., the housing (210) of FIG. 2) as an antenna (e.g., an antenna radiator). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may include a structure in which a printed circuit board (e.g., a printed circuit board (480) of FIG. 4) and a fixing member (e.g., a fixing member (460) of FIG. 4) are electrically connected through a conductive member (e.g., a conductive member (520) of FIG. 5). For example, the processor (120) of the electronic device (101) can apply a set passive element value to the fixed member (460), and form an electric field (E-field) (e.g., an electric field corresponding to a first communication frequency band (e.g., a band of about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz)) based on the fixed member (460) and the printed circuit board (480). The processor (120) can transmit and receive a communication signal using the electric field corresponding to the first communication frequency band.
[0102] The electronic device (101) of FIG. 7 may have a battery (e.g., battery (189) of FIGS. 1 and 6, battery (470) of FIG. 5) disposed between a fixing member (460) and a printed circuit board (480). For example, the thickness (e.g., thickness (510) of FIG. 5) of the battery (470) may at least partially change depending on the remaining amount of the battery (470). When the remaining amount of the battery (470) increases, the thickness (510) of the battery (470) may become relatively thicker, and when the remaining amount of the battery (470) decreases, the thickness (510) of the battery (470) may become relatively thinner.
[0103] In operation 701, the processor (120) of the electronic device (101) can check the remaining capacity (e.g., remaining capacity, remaining battery capacity) of the battery (e.g., battery (189) of FIG. 1) according to a set cycle or time point. For example, the processor (120) can check the remaining capacity of the battery (189) in real time, and can display the checked remaining capacity of the battery (189) through a display (e.g., display module (160)). According to one embodiment, the processor (120) corresponds to the main processor (121) of FIG. 1, and can check the remaining capacity of the battery (189) periodically or at a specified time point.
[0104] In operation 703, the processor (120) may determine whether the remaining amount of the battery (189) is less than a set threshold based on battery remaining amount information (e.g., battery remaining amount information (601) of FIG. 6). For example, the battery remaining amount information (601) may include a ratio (e.g., threshold) of the remaining amount of the battery compared to the total amount of the battery. The battery remaining amount information (601) may include at least one preset threshold. The processor (120) may detect whether the remaining amount of the battery (189) falls below the set threshold according to a preset cycle or time point. In operation 703, the processor (120) may continuously check the remaining amount of the battery (189) according to the cycle or time point set in operation 701 in a situation where the remaining amount of the battery (189) is greater than or equal to the set threshold (e.g., operation 703-No).
[0105] In a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (189) is less than a set threshold value in operation 703 (e.g., operation 703-Yes), in operation 705, the processor (120) can check at least one selectable passive element through a switch module (e.g., switch (610) of FIG. 6). For example, the at least one passive element can be electrically connected to a fixed member (e.g., fixed member (460) of FIGS. 4 and 5) used as an antenna radiator through the switch (610). For example, the at least one passive element can be placed on a printed circuit board (e.g., printed circuit board (480) of FIGS. 4 and 5) and can include at least one of a capacitor, an inductor, and a resistor. The at least one passive element includes at least one capacitor and can apply a passive element value to the fixed member (460) under the control of the switch (610). For example, when a first passive element (e.g., the first passive element (611) of FIG. 6) and a second passive element (e.g., the second passive element (612) of FIG. 6) are selected simultaneously or together by a switch (610), a first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (611) and a second passive element value corresponding to the second passive element (612) are added, and the added passive element value (e.g., the third passive element value) can be applied to the fixing member (460).
[0106] In operation 707, the processor (120) may control the switch (610) to electrically connect at least one passive element to an antenna (e.g., a fixed member (460)) corresponding to a first frequency band (e.g., about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz). For example, the processor (120) may identify at least one passive element set to correspond to the first frequency band based on passive element-related information (e.g., passive element-related information (602) of FIG. 6) stored in the memory (130), and may control the switch (610) to connect the identified passive element to the antenna (e.g., the fixed member (460)).
[0107] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may include an application processor (AP) corresponding to the main processor (121) of FIG. 1 and a communication processor (CP) corresponding to the auxiliary processor (123) of FIG. 1. In operation 707, the main processor (e.g., the application processor (AP)) may request the auxiliary processor (e.g., the communication processor (CP)) to select at least one passive element. The auxiliary processor (e.g., the communication processor (CP)) may control the switch (610) to connect the antenna (e.g., the fixing member (460)) and the at least one passive element in response to the request by the main processor (e.g., the application processor (AP)).
[0108] In operation 709, the processor (120) may apply a passive element value based on at least one passive element to an antenna (e.g., a fixed element (460)) corresponding to a first frequency band (e.g., about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz). For example, when a plurality of passive elements, i.e., a first passive element (611) and a second passive element (612), are connected together to the fixed element (460), a first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (611) and a second passive element value corresponding to the second passive element (612) may be added, and the added passive element value may be applied to the fixed element (460). For example, when at least one passive element is a first capacitor, the passive element value may include a first capacitor value corresponding to the first capacitor.
[0109] According to one embodiment, when the electronic device (101) performs communication based on the first frequency band, the combined passive component value may be applied, and more efficient communication performance may be implemented. For example, the first frequency band (e.g., about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz) may be classified as a relatively low frequency band, and the first frequency band may be a frequency band whose communication performance is relatively greatly affected by changes in the surrounding communication environment (e.g., changes in the thickness of the battery (470)). When the electronic device (101) performs communication based on the first frequency band, the electronic device (101) may apply a relatively high passive component value to the antenna (e.g., the fixing member (460)). The electronic device (101) may implement more efficient communication performance based on the first frequency band.
[0110] FIG. 8 is a circuit diagram of a switch module electrically connecting an antenna radiator and a passive element according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0111] The electronic device (101) of FIG. 8 may be at least partially similar to the electronic device (101) of FIGS. 1 to 6, or may further include other embodiments of the electronic device. The electronic device (101) may utilize some of the components included in a housing (e.g., the housing (210) of FIG. 2) as an antenna radiator (810) (e.g., a SUS plate, a fixing member (460) of FIG. 5). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may include a structure in which a printed circuit board (e.g., a printed circuit board (480) of FIG. 4) and the antenna radiator (810) (e.g., a fixing member (460) of FIG. 4) are electrically connected through a conductive member (e.g., a conductive member (520) of FIG. 5).
[0112] Referring to FIG. 8, the electronic device (101) may include a switch module (820) (e.g., the switch (610) of FIG. 6) for electrically connecting an antenna radiator (810) and at least one passive element (e.g., a first passive element (821), a second passive element (822), a third passive element (823), a fourth passive element (824)). For example, the at least one passive element may be at least partially mounted on a printed circuit board (480), and each passive element may include at least one of at least one capacitor, at least one inductor, and at least one resistor.
[0113] According to one embodiment, when a first passive element (821) is connected to the antenna radiator (810), a first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (821) may be applied to the antenna radiator (810). According to one embodiment, when a first passive element (821) and a second passive element (822) are connected together to the antenna radiator (810), a first passive element value corresponding to the first passive element (821) and a second passive element value corresponding to the second passive element (822) may be added together and applied to the antenna radiator (810).
[0114] Referring to FIG. 8, a first-first passive element (811) may be placed between an antenna radiator (810) and a switch module (820). For example, when the first passive element (821) is connected to the electronic device (101), the passive element values according to the first-first passive element (811) and the first passive element (821) may be added up and applied to the antenna radiator (810). When the second passive element (822) is connected to the electronic device (101), the passive element values according to the first-first passive element (811) and the second passive element (822) may be added up and applied to the antenna radiator (810).
[0115] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can identify a first frequency band corresponding to the antenna radiator (810), and, based on passive element-related information (e.g., passive element-related information (602) of FIG. 6) stored in a memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 6), can identify the type and number of preset passive elements in relation to the identified first frequency band. The electronic device (101) can control the switch module (820) so that the antenna radiator (810) and the preset passive elements are electrically connected.
[0116] Referring to FIG. 8, the 1-1 passive element (811) is illustrated as being positioned between the antenna radiator (810) and the switch module (820), but the configuration of the 1-1 passive element (811) may be omitted. According to one embodiment, the structure in which the antenna radiator (810) and at least one passive element are positioned is not limited to the structure illustrated in FIG. 8.
[0117] FIG. 9 is a graph (910) showing changes in radiation efficiency according to connection of passive components according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0118] The electronic device (101) of FIG. 9 may be at least partially similar to the electronic device (101) of FIGS. 1 to 6, or may further include other embodiments of the electronic device. The electronic device (101) may utilize some of the components included in a housing (e.g., the housing (210) of FIG. 2) as an antenna radiator (e.g., a SUS plate, a fixing member (460) of FIG. 5). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may include a structure in which a printed circuit board (e.g., a printed circuit board (480) of FIG. 4) and an antenna radiator (e.g., a fixing member (460) of FIG. 4) are electrically connected through a conductive member (e.g., a conductive member (520) of FIG. 5).
[0119] The electronic device (101) of FIG. 9 may include a structure in which a battery (e.g., battery (189) of FIGS. 1 and 6, battery (470) of FIG. 5) is disposed between a fixing member (460) and a printed circuit board (480).
[0120] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can utilize a capacitor function based on a fixed member (460) and a printed circuit board (480), and can perform communication according to a first frequency band (e.g., a band of about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz) corresponding to the fixed member (460).
[0121] Referring to FIG. 9, a first graph (911) showing the radiation efficiency for an antenna radiator (e.g., a fixed member (460)) in a situation where the remaining amount of a battery (470) is less than a set threshold value, and a second graph (912) showing the radiation efficiency in a state where at least one passive element (e.g., passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614) of FIG. 6) is additionally applied to the antenna radiator (e.g., a fixed member (460)).
[0122] The first graph (911) shows that the radiation efficiency is relatively reduced as the remaining capacity of the battery (470) falls below a set threshold. For example, the radiation efficiency is shown to be reduced in the band of about 650 MHz to about 800 MHz.
[0123] The second graph (912) shows that in response to a situation where the remaining capacity of the battery (470) drops below a set threshold, at least one passive component can be connected to the antenna radiator (e.g., the fixed member (460)), and the radiation efficiency is relatively improved compared to the first graph (911). For example, compared to the first graph (911), the radiation efficiency is shown to be optimized in the band of about 650 MHz to about 800 MHz. The second graph (912) shows the radiation efficiency in a state where an additional passive component (e.g., a capacitor) is electrically connected to the antenna radiator (e.g., the fixed member (460)), and a relatively high passive component value is applied to the antenna radiator, compared to the first graph (911). For example, at least one passive component can be electrically connected to the antenna radiator (e.g., the fixed member (460)), and the radiation efficiency in a specific frequency band can be optimized.
[0124] According to one embodiment, the radiation efficiency (e.g., communication performance) in a specific frequency band may change depending on the battery capacity. The electronic device (101) may additionally apply a passive element value to the antenna radiator (e.g., the fixing member (460)) by electrically connecting at least one passive element to the antenna radiator, thereby adjusting the radiation efficiency in a specific frequency band. For example, the electronic device (101) may adjust the first radiation efficiency according to the first graph (911) to the second radiation efficiency according to the second graph (912) based on a specific frequency band (e.g., a band of about 650 MHz to about 800 MHz). The electronic device (101) may optimize the radiation efficiency in a specific frequency band (e.g., a band of about 650 MHz to about 800 MHz).
[0125] According to one embodiment, a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 6) of an electronic device (101) may determine whether the remaining amount of the battery (470) has fallen below a set threshold based on battery remaining amount information (e.g., battery remaining amount information (601) of FIG. 6) stored in a memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 6). In response to a situation where the remaining amount of the battery (470) has fallen below the threshold, the processor (120) may check at least one passive element (e.g., passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614) of FIG. 6) connectable to an antenna radiator (e.g., a fixing member (460)) corresponding to a first frequency band (e.g., a band of about 600 MHz to about 900 MHz). The processor (120) may select at least one passive element from among a plurality of passive elements (611, 612, 613, 614) based on passive element-related information stored in the memory (130) (e.g., passive element-related information (602) of FIG. 6). The processor (120) may control a switch module (e.g., switch (610) of FIG. 6) to connect an antenna radiator (e.g., fixing member (460)) and the at least one selected passive element. For example, when a passive element is connected to the antenna radiator, a passive element value corresponding to the passive element may be applied to the antenna radiator. When a plurality of passive elements are connected to the antenna radiator, passive element values for the passive elements may be added up and applied to the antenna radiator. For example, the passive element may include a circuit component that affects radiation efficiency (e.g., communication efficiency), such as a capacitor, an inductor, and / or a resistor.
[0126] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may select at least one passive element connected to the antenna radiator (e.g., the fixing member (460)) in response to a situation in which the remaining capacity of the battery (470) decreases below a set threshold (e.g., a situation in which the communication performance of the first frequency band deteriorates due to a change in the thickness of the battery (470). A passive element value corresponding to the selected at least one passive element may be applied to the antenna radiator. The electronic device (101) may implement more efficient communication performance according to the communication frequency band (e.g., the first frequency band), regardless of a change in the remaining capacity of the battery (470). The electronic device (101) may connect at least one passive element to the antenna radiator (e.g., the fixing member (460)) so as to further improve the communication performance in the first frequency band.
