Description

Gaskets for pipe couplings

[0001] The present invention relates to a gasket, and more particularly, to a gasket for a pipe coupling.

[0002] A typical building is equipped with pipes to supply water to each living space or to receive fire fighting water in case of fire, and the pipes can be installed from the basement of the building to the roof.

[0003] Traditionally, pipes were welded together, leading to problems such as easy deformation due to external pressure, requiring frequent maintenance, and making construction difficult. To address these issues, couplings equipped with synthetic resin gaskets have been used to connect continuously arranged pipes.

[0004] Korean Patent Publication No. 2014-0103268 discloses a conventional gasket. This gasket has poor watertightness, leading to leakage of fluid contained within the pipe. In particular, when the fluid is discharged externally, for reasons such as pipe repair, the negative pressure generated within the pipe can cause deformation of the gasket, easily leading to leakage of the fluid contained within the pipe.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need for improvement in the above-mentioned problems.

[0006] The present invention is intended to solve the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a gasket for a pipe coupling with improved watertightness performance.

[0007] The tasks of the present invention are not limited to the tasks mentioned above, and other tasks not mentioned will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains from the description below.

[0008] According to one aspect of the present invention, a gasket for use in a pipe coupling is provided, which comprises a body for connecting continuously arranged pipes, side walls formed extending at both ends in the width direction of the body to form an internal space, and a hooking projection formed extending at the lower end of the side walls to be inserted into a fastening groove formed in the pipe, wherein the gasket comprises a base portion that is positioned in close contact with an inner surface of the body, a side portion that is positioned in close contact with an inner surface of the side walls, a leg portion that is provided with a fastening surface that is positioned in close contact with an outer surface of the pipe, and a pressing portion that presses the leg portion so that the degree of pressing of the fastening surface increases when a fastening force is applied to the coupling.

[0009] At this time, the pressurizing portion may include a first pressurizing member formed on the inner surface of the base portion and extending toward the leg portion.

[0010] At this time, the first pressure member may be provided in multiple numbers along the circumferential direction, and a fluid movement area in which the fluid moves may be provided between adjacent first pressure members.

[0011] At this time, a first acceleration surface may be provided on the inner side in the width direction of the first pressure member, in which the gap between adjacent first pressure members decreases so as to increase the movement speed of the fluid moving from the fluid supply region to the fluid movement region.

[0012] At this time, a second acceleration surface may be provided on the outer side in the width direction of the first pressure member, in which the gap between adjacent first pressure members decreases so as to increase the movement speed of the fluid moving from the fluid pressure region to the fluid movement region.

[0013] At this time, the leg portion may be provided with a leg slope that is formed to be inclined inwardly in the width direction so as to increase the degree of deformation of the leg portion, and the first pressing member may be provided with a pressing slope that is formed to have the same slope as the slope of the leg slope so as to make surface contact with the leg slope.

[0014] At this time, the center of the first pressure member may be placed outside the center of the fluid receiving space in which the fluid is received in the width direction.

[0015] At this time, the pressurizing portion may include a second pressurizing member provided on the outer surface of the side portion and extending toward the side wall.

[0016] At this time, the second pressure member can be formed to extend along the circumferential direction.

[0017] At this time, a pressing surface having a predetermined curvature may be provided on the outer surface of the second pressing member.

[0018] At this time, the pressurizing surface may include a first unit pressurizing surface disposed radially upward and having a first curvature, and a second unit pressurizing surface disposed radially downward and having a second curvature.

[0019] At this time, the first curvature may be formed to be greater than the second curvature.

[0020] At this time, the pressurizing portion may include a third pressurizing member formed on the inner surface of the side portion and extending toward the leg portion.

[0021] According to the above configuration, the gasket for a pipe coupling according to one aspect of the present invention further improves watertight performance by providing a pressurizing portion that pressurizes the leg portion so that the degree of pressurization of the contact surface provided in the leg portion increases when a fastening force is applied to the coupling.

[0037] Hereinafter, with reference to the attached drawings, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail so that those skilled in the art can easily practice the present invention. [0039] Therefore, the embodiments described in this specification and the configurations illustrated in the drawings correspond to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, and do not represent all of the technical ideas of the present invention, so there may be various equivalents and modified examples that can replace the configuration at the time of filing of the present invention.

[0041] Hereinafter, a pipe inner surface polishing device according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which a gasket for a pipe coupling and a pipe coupling are disassembled according to an embodiment of the present invention, Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which a gasket for a pipe coupling and a pipe coupling are assembled according to an embodiment of the present invention, Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which a gasket for a pipe coupling and a pipe coupling are disassembled according to another embodiment of the present invention, and Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which a gasket for a pipe coupling and a pipe coupling are assembled according to another embodiment of the present invention. Here, the W direction means the width direction, the R direction means the radial direction, and the A direction means the circumferential direction.

[0042] As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention is used in a pipe coupling (20) having a body (21) for connecting pipes (10) arranged in series, side walls (22) formed extending at both ends in the width direction (W) of the body (21) to form an internal space (20a), and a catch projection (23) formed extending at the lower end of the side walls (22) to be inserted into a fastening groove (11) formed in the pipe (10).

[0043] The gasket (100) can be placed in the internal space (20a) formed in the coupling (20), and when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20) with the gasket (100) placed, the catch projection (23) is inserted into the fastening groove (11) and fixed.

[0044] An arch surface may be provided on the inner side in the radial direction (R) of this hook projection (23), and the inner diameter of the arch surface is formed to have a size corresponding to the outer diameter of the fastening groove (11). At this time, the inner diameter of the hook projection (23) may be formed to be slightly larger than the outer diameter of the fastening groove (11). This is because the hook projection (23) is in close contact with the outer side in the radial direction (R) than the fastening groove (11). It is preferable that the difference in size between the inner diameter of the hook projection (23) and the outer diameter of the fastening groove (11) be formed only to the extent that the hook projection (23) can be in close contact with the outer surface of the fastening groove (11).

[0045] When configured in this way, structural stability can be secured by the catch (23) being in close contact with the outer surface of the fastening groove (11).

[0046] At this time, the gasket (100) includes a base portion (110) that is positioned in close contact with the inner surface of the body (21), a side portion (120) that is positioned in close contact with the inner surface of the side wall (22), a leg portion (130) that is provided with a contact surface (131) that is positioned in close contact with the outer surface of the pipe (10), and a pressurizing portion (140) that pressurizes the leg portion (130) so that the degree of pressurization of the contact surface (131) increases when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20).

[0047] That is, when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20) while the base portion (110) and the side portion (120) are placed in close contact with the inner surface of the coupling (20), the leg portion (130) is elastically deformed and the contact surface (131) comes into close contact with the outer surface of the pipe (10), thereby preventing fluid leakage. Furthermore, as the pressurizing portion (140) presses the leg portion (130), the degree of pressurization of the contact surface (131) increases, thereby further improving the watertight performance.

[0048] At this time, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the leg part (130) can be directly pressed through the first pressing member (141), or as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the leg part (130) can be indirectly pressed through the second pressing member (142).

[0049] In addition, the gasket (100) may be provided with a tongue (150). The tongue (150) supports the end of the pipe (10) when installing the pipe (10), thereby allowing the pipe (10) to be accurately placed in the center of the width direction (W) of the coupling (20). This allows the pipe (10) placed on one side in the width direction (W) and the pipe (10) placed on the other side to be placed in the correct positions, thereby improving the watertightness performance.

[0050] As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the pressurizing portion (140) may include a first pressurizing member (141) provided on the inner surface of the base portion (110) and extending toward the leg portion (130). A fluid receiving space (FR) in which a fluid is received may be formed inside the gasket (100), and the first pressurizing member (141) improves the watertightness performance against the internal pressure formed by the fluid. In particular, since only a small amount of fluid is received in the fluid receiving space (FR), the watertightness performance can be sufficiently secured even when a low-pressure state occurs due to a decrease in the internal pressure. In particular, the first pressurizing member (141) directly pressurizes the leg portion (130) and increases the contact surface pressure of the contact surface (131).

[0051] Since the first pressure member (141) is provided inside the gasket (100), in order to secure sufficient watertight performance, it is important to check the dimensions during and after manufacturing the gasket (100), and it is important to manage the quality of the gasket (100). In addition, it is also necessary to consider whether interference occurs between the first pressure members (141) when fastening the coupling (20), or whether deformation occurs in the first pressure member (141) due to this. The position and size of the first pressure member (141) may be changed according to the design specifications.

[0052] Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view of a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0053] As illustrated in FIG. 5, a plurality of first pressure members (141) are provided along the circumferential direction (A), and a fluid movement area (FZ) in which fluid moves may be provided between adjacent first pressure members (141).

[0054] That is, a plurality of first pressure members (141) are provided in a state where they are spaced apart along the circumferential direction (A), and a fluid movement area (FZ) is provided between adjacent first pressure members (141), so that the first pressure members (141) can evenly pressurize the leg portion (130) while the fluid is evenly filled inside the gasket (100), thereby enabling improvement of watertightness performance using fluid pressure.

[0055] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a first pressing member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a first modified example of the first pressing member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0056] As shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, a first acceleration surface (141a) may be provided on the inner side in the width direction (W) of the first pressure member (141) such that the gap between adjacent first pressure members (141) decreases so that the movement speed of the fluid moving from the fluid supply area (FS) to the fluid movement area (FZ) increases.

[0057] That is, when a fluid is supplied inside the pipe (10) while the coupling (20) is engaged, the fluid moves to the fluid supply area (FS) of the gasket (100) and then to the fluid movement area (FZ). As described above, if a first acceleration surface (141a) is provided on the inner side in the width direction (W) of the first pressure member (141) so that the gap between the first pressure members (141) decreases, the cross-sectional area of the fluid movement area (FZ) between adjacent first pressure members (141) decreases, thereby increasing the movement speed of the fluid moving from the fluid supply area (FS) to the fluid movement area (FZ), thereby enabling rapid watertight performance to be secured.

[0058] FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a second modified example of a first pressure member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0059] As shown in FIGS. 5 and 8, a second acceleration surface (141b) may be provided on the outer side in the width direction (W) of the first pressure member (141) such that the gap between adjacent first pressure members (141) decreases so that the movement speed of the fluid moving from the fluid pressure region (FP) to the fluid movement region (FZ) increases.

[0060] That is, when a fluid is received inside the gasket (100), the fluid is also received in the fluid pressurization area (FP) arranged on the outside in the width direction (W), thereby evenly pressurizing the leg portion (130), thereby ensuring watertight performance. At this time, when the fluid received inside the gasket (100) is to be discharged to the outside for reasons such as pipe repair, as described above, if a second acceleration surface (141b) is provided on the outside in the width direction (W) of the first pressurization member (141) so as to reduce the gap between the first pressurization members (141), the cross-sectional area of the fluid movement area (FZ) between adjacent first pressurization members (141) decreases, thereby increasing the movement speed of the fluid moving from the fluid pressurization area (FP) to the fluid movement area (FZ), thereby enabling rapid and accurate discharge of the fluid.

[0061] FIG. 9 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a third modified example of a first pressure member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0062] As illustrated in FIG. 9, the leg portion (130) may be provided with a leg slope (132) that is formed to be inclined toward the inside in the width direction (W) so that the degree of deformation of the leg portion (130) increases, and the first pressing member (141) may be provided with a pressing slope (141c) that is formed to have the same slope as the slope of the leg slope (132) so as to make surface contact with the leg slope (132).

[0063] In this way, when the first pressure member (141) is provided with a pressure slope (141c) having the same slope as that of the leg slope (132), when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20), the pressure slope (141c) makes surface contact with the leg slope (132) and can evenly pressurize the leg portion (130), thereby improving the watertight performance.

[0064] FIG. 10 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a fourth modified example of a first pressure member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0065] As illustrated in Fig. 10, the center (CP) of the first pressure member (141) may be positioned outside the center (CR) of the fluid receiving space (FR) in which the fluid is received in the width direction (W). With this configuration, the first pressure member (141) can more effectively pressurize the leg portion (130), thereby improving the watertight performance.

[0066] As illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, the pressurizing portion (140) may include a second pressurizing member (142) provided on the outer surface of the side portion (120) and extending toward the side wall (22). A fluid receiving space (FR) for receiving a fluid may be formed inside the gasket (100), and the second pressurizing member (142) improves the watertightness performance against the internal pressure formed by the fluid. When a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20), the second pressurizing member (142) is pressed by the side wall (22), and the side portion (120) is directly pressed inward in the width direction (W), and through this, the leg portion (130) is also indirectly pressed inward in the width direction (W), thereby increasing the watertightness performance.

[0067] In addition, before a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20), the second pressure member (142) supports the side wall (22) of the coupling (20) by pushing it outward in the radial direction (R), so that the gap between the mutually opposed couplings (20) increases, making it easy to insert and place the pipe (10) in the assembled state of the coupling (20).

[0068] In addition, when connected by the coupling (20), a free space is provided on the outer and inner sides in the radial direction (R) centered on the second pressure member (142), and even if the gasket (100) expands due to the fluid pressure inside the gasket (100), the expansion of the gasket (100) can be accommodated in the free space, so that unintended deformation of the gasket (100) can be prevented.

[0069] Since the second pressure member (142) is provided inside the gasket (100), in order to secure sufficient watertight performance, it is important to check the dimensions during and after manufacturing the gasket (100), and it is important to manage the quality of the gasket (100). In addition, since the gasket (100) does not adhere closely to the inner surface of the coupling (20) due to the second pressure member (142) when the coupling (20) is pre-assembled, it is necessary to design the size and position of the second pressure member (142) taking this into consideration.

[0070] FIG. 11 is a side view of a gasket for a pipe coupling according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0071] As illustrated in Fig. 11, the second pressure member (142) may be formed to extend along the circumferential direction (A). With this configuration, when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20), the second pressure member (142) is evenly pressed by the side wall (22), so that the side portion (120) is directly pressed, and the leg portion (130) is indirectly pressed by the pressed side portion (120), so that watertight performance can be secured.

[0072] Alternatively, the second pressure member (142) may be arranged in multiple spaces along the circumferential direction (A).

[0073] FIG. 12 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a second pressurizing member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0074] As illustrated in Fig. 12, a pressing surface (142a) having a predetermined curvature may be provided on the outer surface of the second pressing member (142). With this configuration, the degree to which the second pressing member (142) is pressed by the coupling (20) increases as it goes inward in the width direction (W), so that not only can the pipe (10) be easily installed in the assembled state of the coupling (20), but also the leg portion (130) can be effectively pressed through the side portion (120) when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20).

[0075] FIG. 13 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a first modified example of a second pressure member provided in a gasket for a pipe coupling according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0076] As illustrated in FIG. 13, the pressurizing surface (142a) may include a first unit pressurizing surface (142a') disposed on the upper side in the radial direction (R) and having a first curvature (R1), and a second unit pressurizing surface (142a") disposed on the lower side in the radial direction (R) and having a second curvature (R2). Through this, the degree to which the second pressurizing member (142) is pressed by the coupling (20) can be configured differently by dividing the upper and lower sides of the second pressurizing member (142) in the radial direction (R).

[0077] As illustrated in FIG. 13, the first curvature (R1) may be formed to be larger than the second curvature (R2). That is, since the first curvature (R1) of the first unit pressurizing surface (142a') disposed on the upper side in the radial direction (R) is formed to be relatively larger than the second curvature (R2), the first unit pressurizing surface (142a') draws a gentle curve, so that the coupling (20) can be easily fitted during the coupling (20) assembly process. In addition, since the second curvature (R2) of the second unit pressurizing surface (142a") disposed on the lower side in the radial direction (R) is formed to be relatively smaller than the first curvature (R1), the second unit pressurizing surface (142a") draws a steep curve, so that when a fastening force is applied after assembling the coupling (20), the degree of pressurization of the leg portion (130) increases, thereby improving the watertightness performance.

[0078] Fig. 14 is a cross-sectional view showing a gasket for a pipe coupling and a pipe coupling in an exploded state according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0079] As illustrated in Fig. 14, the pressurizing portion (140) may include a third pressurizing member (143) provided on the inner surface of the side portion (120) and extending toward the leg portion (130). A fluid receiving space (FR) in which a fluid is received may be formed inside the gasket (100), and the third pressurizing member (143) improves the watertightness performance against the internal pressure formed by the fluid. In particular, since only a small amount of fluid is received in the fluid receiving space (FR), the watertightness performance can be sufficiently secured even when a low-pressure state occurs due to a decrease in the internal pressure. In particular, the third pressurizing member (143) directly pressurizes the leg portion (130) and increases the contact surface pressure of the contact surface (131).

[0080] As previously discussed, the gasket for a pipe coupling according to one embodiment of the present invention further improves watertight performance by being provided with a pressurizing portion (140) that pressurizes the leg portion (130) so that the degree of pressurization of the contact surface (131) provided in the leg portion (130) increases when a fastening force is applied to the coupling (20).

[0081] Although one embodiment of the present invention has been described, the spirit of the present invention is not limited to the embodiments presented in this specification, and those skilled in the art who understand the spirit of the present invention will be able to easily propose other embodiments by adding, changing, deleting, or adding components within the scope of the same spirit, but this will also be considered to fall within the spirit of the present invention.
