Antenna device and communication device equipped with same
[0001] The present disclosure relates to an antenna device and a communication device equipped with the same.
[0002] Japanese Patent Laid-Open Publication No. 2004-201018 (Patent Document 1) discloses a dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) that radiates radio waves by supplying a high-frequency signal to a columnar body (dielectric block) made of a dielectric material arranged on a flat substrate. In this dielectric resonator antenna, a long, thin feeder line that extends linearly from the mounting surface of the substrate along the normal direction to the mounting surface of the substrate contacts the side of the dielectric block, and power is supplied to the dielectric block from this feeder line.
[0003] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2004-201018
[0004] The dielectric resonator antenna disclosed in JP 2004-201018 A has a structure in which a feeder line contacts the side surface of a dielectric block, but this structure has the problem that it is not easy to support the dielectric block in a direction along the mounting surface of a board. Specifically, since the feeder line contacting the side surface of the dielectric block is merely a long, thin conductor extending linearly, there is a concern that it may not be able to sufficiently support the dielectric block in a direction along the mounting surface of a board.
[0005] The present disclosure has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems, and its purpose is to realize support for a dielectric block and power supply to the dielectric block in a dielectric resonator antenna.
[0006] The antenna device according to the present disclosure includes a substrate on which a ground electrode and a feed wiring are formed, a dielectric block disposed on a mounting surface of the substrate and having a side intersecting the mounting surface, and a plate-shaped metal first frame disposed on the mounting surface. The first frame has a first main body portion disposed at a position separated from the dielectric block and a first protrusion portion protruding from the first main body portion toward the dielectric block. The first protrusion portion includes a first terminal portion disposed at a tip of the first protrusion portion and having a first abutment surface abutting against the side surface of the dielectric block, and a first wiring portion disposed between the first main body portion and the first terminal portion. When the normal direction to the mounting surface is defined as a first direction, the first abutment surface extends in the first direction and faces the side surface of the dielectric block. The first wiring portion is connected to the feed wiring.
[0007] According to the present disclosure, in a dielectric resonator antenna, it is possible to support a dielectric block and feed power to the dielectric block.

[0009] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. In the drawings, the same or corresponding parts are designated by the same reference numerals, and description thereof will not be repeated.
[0010] 1 is a block diagram of a communication device 10 to which an antenna device 120 according to this embodiment is applied. The communication device 10 is, for example, a mobile terminal such as a mobile phone, a smartphone, or a tablet, or a personal computer with a communication function. An example of the frequency band of radio waves used in the antenna device 120 according to this embodiment is millimeter-wave radio waves with center frequencies of 28 GHz, 39 GHz, and 60 GHz, but radio waves in other frequency bands are also applicable.
[0011] 1 , a communication device 10 includes an antenna module 100 and a BBIC 200 that constitutes a baseband signal processing circuit. The antenna module 100 includes an RFIC 110, which is an example of a power supply device, and an antenna device 120. The communication device 10 upconverts an intermediate frequency signal transmitted from the BBIC 200 to the antenna module 100 into a high frequency signal and radiates the high frequency signal from the antenna device 120, and also downconverts a high frequency signal received by the antenna device 120 into an intermediate frequency signal and processes the signal in the BBIC 200.
[0012] The antenna device 120 includes a substantially rectangular, flat-plate-shaped substrate 130 and a plurality of dielectric blocks 121 arranged on the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130. While Fig. 1 shows an example of an array configuration in which four dielectric blocks 121 are arranged in a line on the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130, the number and arrangement of the dielectric blocks 121 are not limited to this. A single dielectric block 121 may be arranged on the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130, or five or more dielectric blocks 121 may be arranged. Alternatively, an array configuration in which the dielectric blocks 121 are arranged two-dimensionally may be used.
[0013] When a high-frequency signal in a predetermined frequency band is supplied to the dielectric block 121, an electric field resonates within the dielectric block 121, and radio waves corresponding to the resonant frequency are radiated from the dielectric block 121 to the outside. In other words, the antenna module 100 is a dielectric resonator antenna (DRA). The resonance characteristics (corresponding frequency band) of the dielectric block 121 are determined by the shape and dimensions of the dielectric block 121 and the dielectric constant of the dielectric material that makes up the block.
[0014] In the antenna module 100 according to this embodiment, a high frequency signal is supplied to each dielectric block 121 from the corresponding power supply wiring 140. The antenna module 100 is a so-called single-band single-polarized type antenna module.
[0015] The RFIC 110 includes switches 111A to 111D, 113A to 113D, and 117, power amplifiers 112AT to 112DT, low-noise amplifiers 112AR to 112DR, attenuators 114A to 114D, phase shifters 115A to 115D, a signal combiner / divider 116, a mixer 118, and an amplifier circuit 119.
[0016] When transmitting a high frequency signal, the switches 111A to 111D and 113A to 113D are switched to the side of the power amplifiers 112AT to 112DT, and the switch 117 is connected to the transmitting amplifier of the amplifier circuit 119. When receiving a high frequency signal, the switches 111A to 111D and 113A to 113D are switched to the side of the low noise amplifiers 112AR to 112DR, and the switch 117 is connected to the receiving amplifier of the amplifier circuit 119.
[0017] The intermediate frequency signal transmitted from the BBIC 200 is amplified by the amplifier circuit 119 and up-converted by the mixer 118. The up-converted high frequency signal, or transmission signal, is split into four by the signal combiner / divider 116, passes through the corresponding signal paths, and is fed to different dielectric blocks 121. By individually adjusting the phase shift of the phase shifters 115A to 115D arranged on each signal path, it is possible to adjust the directivity of the radio waves output from the dielectric block 121. Furthermore, the attenuators 114A to 114D adjust the intensity of the transmission signal.
[0018] The received signals, which are high-frequency signals received by each dielectric block 121, are transmitted to the RFIC 110 and then combined via four different signal paths in the signal combiner / divider 116. The combined received signals are down-converted to intermediate frequency signals in the mixer 118, further amplified in the amplifier circuit 119, and transmitted to the BBIC 200.
[0019] The RFIC 110 may be formed as, for example, a one-chip integrated circuit component. Alternatively, a device (switch, power amplifier, low-noise amplifier, attenuator, phase shifter) corresponding to each dielectric block may be formed as a one-chip integrated circuit component for each corresponding dielectric block.
[0020] (Structure of Antenna Module) Next, the configuration of the antenna device 120 will be described in detail with reference to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the antenna device 120. Fig. 3 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in the antenna device 120.
[0021] In the following description, the normal direction to the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130 is referred to as the Z-axis direction, the direction along the short side of the mounting surface 130a is referred to as the X-axis direction, and the direction along the long side of the mounting surface 130a is referred to as the Y-axis direction. In each drawing, the positive direction of the Z-axis may be referred to as the upper side, and the negative direction may be referred to as the lower side.
[0022] The dielectric block 121 has a rectangular parallelepiped (more specifically, a square prism) shape. The shape of the dielectric block 121 is not limited to a rectangular parallelepiped shape as long as it is a columnar shape. For example, the dielectric block 121 may have a cylindrical shape.
[0023] 2, in addition to the four dielectric blocks 121, a plurality of plate-shaped metal frames 150, 160, 170, and 180 are arranged on the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130. One frame 150, 160, 170, and 180 is arranged for each dielectric block 121.
[0024] The substrate 130 may be, for example, a low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) multilayer substrate, a multilayer resin substrate formed by laminating multiple resin layers made of resins such as epoxy or polyimide, a multilayer resin substrate formed by laminating multiple resin layers made of liquid crystal polymer (LCP) having a lower dielectric constant, a multilayer resin substrate formed by laminating multiple resin layers made of fluorine-based resin, a multilayer resin substrate formed by laminating multiple resin layers made of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), or a ceramic multilayer substrate other than LTCC. Note that the substrate 130 does not necessarily have a multilayer structure and may be a single-layer substrate.
[0025] A flat-plate-shaped ground electrode GND is disposed on the lower surface of the substrate 130. Note that the ground electrode GND is not necessarily limited to being disposed on the lower surface of the substrate 130, and may be disposed on a middle layer of the substrate 130 or on the mounting surface 130a (upper surface) of the substrate 130.
[0026] The dielectric block 121 is disposed on the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130. Therefore, the dielectric block 121 is disposed opposite the ground electrode GND. In this arrangement, when a high-frequency signal is input (power is supplied) to the dielectric block 121, a radio wave is radiated from the dielectric block 121 in the direction opposite to the ground electrode GND. The resonant frequency of the dielectric block 121 depends on the length of the side of the top surface of the dielectric block 121, and the frequency bandwidth of the dielectric block 121 depends on the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of the dielectric block 121.
[0027] The power supply wiring 140 is disposed in a middle layer of the substrate 130. Note that the power supply wiring 140 is not necessarily limited to being disposed in a middle layer of the substrate 130, and may be disposed on the mounting surface 130a (upper surface) of the substrate 130, for example.
[0028] One end of the power supply wiring 140 is connected to the RFIC 110 (see FIG. 1 ), and the other end of the power supply wiring 140 is connected to a power supply point SP disposed on the mounting surface 130 a of the substrate 130 via a via or the like.
[0029] 3, the structures of the frames 150, 160, 170, and 180 will be described. The frame 150 has a main body 151 disposed at a position spaced apart from the dielectric block 121 in the positive direction of the Y axis, and a protrusion 154 protruding from the main body 151 toward the dielectric block 121 in the negative direction of the Y axis. The main body 151 is connected to the ground electrode GND through a via 141.
[0030] The protrusion 154 includes a terminal portion 152 arranged at the tip of the protrusion 154 , a wiring portion 153 arranged between the main body portion 151 and the terminal portion 152 , and a branch portion 155 branching from the wiring portion 153 .
[0031] The terminal portion 152 has a surface that abuts against the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121. The surface of the terminal portion 152 that abuts against the side surface 121 a (hereinafter simply referred to as the “abutment surface of the terminal portion 152”) extends in the positive direction of the Z axis and faces the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121.
[0032] The wiring portion 153 extends in the Y-axis direction, with one end connected to the main body portion 151 and the other end connected to the terminal portion 152. The dimension of the wiring portion 153 in the Z-axis direction is smaller than the dimension of the terminal portion 152 in the Z-axis direction. The terminal portion 152 is bent at approximately 90 degrees relative to the wiring portion 153.
[0033] The branch portion 155 branches off from the wiring portion 153, extends in the X-axis direction, and has its tip connected to the power feed point SP. As a result, the wiring portion 153 is connected to the power feed wiring 140 at a position closer to the terminal portion 152 than the connection portion with the main body portion 151. Note that the branch portion 155 can be omitted. In a case where the branch portion 155 is omitted, the wiring portion 153 may be connected to the power feed point SP at a position closer to the terminal portion 152 than the connection portion with the main body portion 151.
[0034] The frame 160 has a main body 161 located away from the dielectric block 121 in the negative X-axis direction, and a protrusion 164 protruding from the main body 161 toward the dielectric block 121 in the positive X-axis direction. The protrusion 164 has a terminal 162 located at the tip of the protrusion 164 and having a surface that abuts against the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121, and a wiring portion 163 located between the main body 161 and the terminal 162. The surface of the terminal 162 that abuts against the side surface 121a (hereinafter simply referred to as the "abutment surface of the terminal 162") extends in the positive Z-axis direction and faces the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121. The dimension of the wiring portion 163 in the Z-axis direction is smaller than the dimension of the terminal 162 in the Z-axis direction. The terminal 162 is bent at approximately 90° relative to the wiring portion 163.
[0035] The frame 170 has the same basic configuration as the frame 160. Specifically, the frame 170 has a main body 171 located away from the dielectric block 121 in the negative Y-axis direction, and a protruding portion 174 protruding from the main body 171 toward the dielectric block 121 in the positive Y-axis direction. The protruding portion 174 includes a terminal portion 172 located at the tip of the protruding portion 174 and having a surface that abuts against the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121, and a wiring portion 173 located between the main body 171 and the terminal portion 172. The surface of the terminal portion 172 that abuts against the side surface 121a (hereinafter simply referred to as the "abutting surface of the terminal portion 172") extends in the positive Z-axis direction and faces the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121. The dimension of the wiring portion 173 in the Z-axis direction is smaller than the dimension of the terminal portion 172 in the Z-axis direction. The terminal portion 172 is bent at approximately 90° with respect to the wiring portion 173.
[0036] The basic configuration of the frame 180 is the same as that of the frame 160. Specifically, the frame 180 has a main body 181 disposed at a position spaced apart from the dielectric block 121 in the positive direction of the X-axis, and a protruding portion 184 protruding from the main body 181 toward the dielectric block 121 in the negative direction of the X-axis. The protruding portion 184 includes a terminal portion 182 disposed at the tip of the protruding portion 184 and having a surface that abuts against the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121, and a wiring portion 183 disposed between the main body 181 and the terminal portion 182. The surface of the terminal portion 182 that abuts against the side surface 121a (hereinafter simply referred to as the "abutting surface of the terminal portion 182") extends in the positive direction of the Z-axis and faces the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121. The dimension of the wiring portion 183 in the Z-axis direction is smaller than the dimension of the terminal portion 182 in the Z-axis direction. The terminal portion 182 is bent at approximately 90° with respect to the wiring portion 183.
[0037] When viewed in a plan view from the Z-axis direction, the main bodies 151, 161, 171, and 181 are arranged at different positions from one another so as to surround the periphery of the dielectric block 121. Specifically, the main bodies 151, 161, 171, and 181 are arranged in the normal directions of the four faces that form the side surfaces 121a of the dielectric block 121, respectively.
[0038] The terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182 are in contact with the four surfaces that form the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121, respectively. In other words, when the region of the dielectric block 121 in plan view from the Z-axis direction is divided into two by a dividing line that is equivalent to the XZ plane and passes through the center of the top surface of the dielectric block 121, the terminal portion 152 and the terminal portion 172 are located in different regions. Similarly, when the region of the dielectric block 121 in plan view from the Z-axis direction is divided into two by a dividing line that is equivalent to the YZ plane and passes through the center of the top surface of the dielectric block 121, the terminal portion 162 and the terminal portion 182 are located in different regions.
[0039] The wiring portion 153 of the frame 150 extends linearly in the normal direction (Y-axis direction) of the contact surface of the terminal portion 152. The wiring portion 163 of the frame 160 extends linearly in the normal direction (X-axis direction) of the contact surface of the terminal portion 162. The wiring portion 173 of the frame 170 extends linearly in the normal direction (Y-axis direction) of the contact surface of the terminal portion 172. The wiring portion 183 of the frame 180 extends linearly in the normal direction (X-axis direction) of the contact surface of the terminal portion 182.
[0040] As described above, in the antenna device 120 according to this embodiment, the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130 is provided with the rectangular parallelepiped dielectric block 121 and the flat metal frame 150. The frame 150 has a main body 151 arranged at a position separated from the dielectric block 121, a wiring portion 153 extending from the main body 151 toward the dielectric block 121, a terminal portion 152 arranged at the tip of the wiring portion 153, and a branch portion 155 branching from the wiring portion 153 and connected to the feed point SP (feed wiring 140).
[0041] The terminal portion 152 of the frame 150 has a contact surface that extends in the Z-axis direction and faces and contacts the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121. Therefore, compared to a case where a long and thin conducting wire is contacted against the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121, the dielectric block 121 is more strongly supported, making it less likely for the dielectric block 121 to displace toward the frame 150, for example.
[0042] The branch portion 155 of the frame 150 is connected to the feed point SP (the feed wiring 140). Therefore, a high-frequency signal from the feed point SP can be supplied to the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121 via the branch portion 155 of the frame 150, a part of the wiring portion 153, and the terminal portion 152.
[0043] By providing the frame 150 having such a configuration, it is possible to feed power to the dielectric block 121 and support the dielectric block 121 .
[0044] Furthermore, frames 160, 170, and 180 are provided on the mounting surface 130a of the substrate 130. These frames 160, 170, and 180 have main body portions 161, 171, and 181, wiring portions 163, 173, and 183, and terminal portions 162, 172, and 182, respectively.
[0045] The terminal portion 152 of the frame 150 and the terminal portions 162, 172, 182 of the frames 160, 170, 180 have abutment surfaces that abut at different positions on the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121, specifically, on the four surfaces that form the side surface 121a. These frames 150, 160, 170, 180 can hold the dielectric block 121 so that it does not displace in the direction along the mounting surface 130a.
[0046] Furthermore, when viewed in a plan view from the Z-axis direction, the main body portions 151, 161, 171, and 181 are arranged to surround the periphery of the dielectric block 121. The wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183 extend linearly in the normal direction to the contact surfaces of the terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182, respectively. This allows the lengths of the wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183 to be shortened as much as possible, thereby suppressing deterioration of the antenna characteristics due to the generation of unwanted modes. In other words, if the wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183 are long, unwanted modes may be generated, thereby degrading the antenna characteristics of the dielectric resonator antenna. However, the antenna device 120 according to this embodiment can suppress such problems.
[0047] Furthermore, when the dielectric block 121 is divided into two in the XZ plane passing through the center of the top surface of the dielectric block 121, the terminal portion 152 and the terminal portion 172 are arranged in different regions so as to sandwich the dielectric block 121. Similarly, when the dielectric block 121 is divided into two in the YZ plane passing through the center of the top surface of the dielectric block 121, the terminal portion 162 and the terminal portion 182 are arranged in different regions so as to sandwich the dielectric block 121. This can improve the holding force of the dielectric block 121 by the frames 150, 160, 170, 180.
[0048] Furthermore, the wiring portion 153 of the frame 150 is connected at one end to the dielectric block 121 and at the other end to the main body portion 151, which is connected to the ground electrode GND. The branch portion 155 of the frame 150 branches off from a point on the wiring portion 153 that is closer to the terminal portion 152 than the connection portion with the main body portion 151. In other words, the wiring portion 153 of the frame 150 is connected to the feed point SP (feed wiring 140) at a point that is closer to the terminal portion 152 than the connection portion with the main body portion 151. With this configuration, the wiring portion 153 itself, which is connected to the feed point SP (feed wiring 140), can function as a short stub, allowing for matching adjustment. Matching adjustment can improve the antenna gain.
[0049] Furthermore, in antenna device 120 according to the present embodiment, main body portions 151, 161, 171, and 181 of frames 150, 160, 170, and 180 are divided into small pieces and arranged on mounting surface 130 a. This reduces the area occupied by main body portions 151, 161, 171, and 181 on mounting surface 130 a, and allows other components, wiring, matching circuits, and the like to be arranged in the freed up space.
[0050] Furthermore, in the antenna device 120 according to this embodiment, the terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182 are bent relative to the wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183, respectively, and come into contact with the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121. Therefore, the terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182 that hold the dielectric block 121 are firmly supported by the wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183 and the main body portions 151, 161, 171, and 181. As a result, the holding force of the dielectric block 121 can be further strengthened compared to when the terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182 are disposed independently without being connected to the wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183 and the main body portions 151, 161, 171, and 181.

[0057] FIG. 4 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in the antenna device 120A according to the first modification.
[0058] The antenna device 120A according to this first modification is obtained by replacing the four frames 150, 160, 170, and 180 of the antenna device 120 according to the above-described embodiment with a single frame 150A. The main body portion 151A is disposed so as to surround the entire periphery of the dielectric block 121 when viewed in a plan view from the Z-axis direction. The protrusions 154, 164, 174, and 184 of the frame 150A protrude from the integrally formed main body portion 151A toward the dielectric block 121.
[0059] By employing the frame 150A having the integrated main body portion 151A in this way, the manufacturing process and arrangement process for the frame 150A can be simplified compared to when the main body portion is divided.
[0060] The "main body portion 151A" according to the present modified example 1 can correspond to the "first main body portion" and the "second main body portion" of the present disclosure formed integrally.
[0061] <Modification 2> In the above embodiment, the dielectric block 121 is placed on the mounting surface 130 a of the substrate 130 , but the dielectric block 121 may be fitted into a recess in the substrate 130 .
[0062] Fig. 5 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in the antenna device 120B according to Modification 2. Fig. 6 is a view showing the antenna device 120B shown in Fig. 5 with the dielectric block 121 removed.
[0063] Antenna device 120B according to the present modified example 2 is obtained by changing substrate 130 and frame 150A of antenna device 120A according to the above-described modified example 1 to substrate 130B and frame 150B, respectively. Frame 150B is obtained by changing protrusions 154, 164, 174, and 184 of frame 150A according to the above-described modified example 1 to protrusions 154B, 164B, 174B, and 184B, respectively.
[0064] A recess 131 recessed in the negative direction of the Z axis is formed near the center of the mounting surface 130b of the substrate 130B. When the substrate 130B is viewed in plan from the Z axis direction, the ground electrode GND has a portion disposed in a position overlapping the recess 131. Note that the recess 131 may be a hole penetrating the substrate 130B including the ground electrode GND.
[0065] The lower part of the dielectric block 121 is fitted into the recess 131 of the substrate 130B. The protrusion 154B has a wiring portion 153 and a terminal portion 152B. The terminal portion 152B is bent at approximately 90° with respect to the wiring portion 153 so as to fit along the inner wall 131b of the recess 131. Similarly, the terminal portion 162B of the protrusion 164B, the terminal portion 172B of the protrusion 174B, and the terminal portion 182B of the protrusion 184B are bent at approximately 90° with respect to the wiring portions 163, 173, and 183, respectively, so as to fit along the inner wall of the recess 131. Therefore, when the lower part of the dielectric block 121 is fitted into the recess 131 of the substrate 130B, the terminal portions 152B, 162B, 172B, and 182B are disposed between the inner wall of the recess 131 and the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121.
[0066] In the antenna device 120B according to the present modified example 2, the dielectric block 121 is fitted into the recess 131 of the substrate 130, so that the height of the dielectric block 121 from the mounting surface 130b can be kept low, and the dielectric block 121 can be held by the inner wall of the recess 131, so that the holding force of the dielectric block 121 can be improved.
[0067] Furthermore, in the antenna device 120B according to the second modification, when the substrate 130B is viewed in plan from the Z-axis direction, the ground electrode GND is disposed at a position overlapping the recess 131. This allows the lower surface of the dielectric block 121 to face the ground electrode GND, thereby improving the antenna characteristics as a dielectric resonator antenna.
[0068] The "recess 131" and the "inner wall 131b of the recess 131" according to the present modification 2 may correspond to the "recess" and the "inner wall of the recess" of the present disclosure, respectively.
[0069] <Modification 3> At least one of the terminal portions 152B, 162B, 172B, and 182B of the above-described modification 2 may be modified to have a shape that is elastically deformable in the normal direction of the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121 with which it abuts.
[0070] 7 is a cross-sectional view of the antenna device 120C according to the third modification taken along the YZ plane. As shown in FIG. 7, the terminal portions 152C, 172C according to the third modification extend in the Z-axis direction while being bent in a zigzag pattern. This allows the terminal portions 152C, 172C to elastically deform in the normal direction (Y-axis direction) of the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121 with which they abut. Therefore, variations in the molding accuracy of the recess 131 of the substrate 130 can be absorbed by the elastic deformation of the terminal portions 152C, 172C in the Y-axis direction. As a result, the holding force of the dielectric block 121 can be improved.
[0071] The "terminal portion 152C" and the "terminal portion 172C" according to the present modification example 3 may correspond to the "first terminal portion" and the "second terminal portion" of the present disclosure, respectively.
[0072] <Modification 4> In the above-described modification 1, the terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182 are bent relative to the wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183, respectively, and are brought into contact with the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121. However, the thickness (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of each wiring portion may be increased to the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of each terminal portion, and the tip surface of each terminal portion may be brought into contact with the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121.
[0073] 8 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120D according to Modification 4. The antenna device 120D is obtained by changing the frame 150A of the antenna device 120A according to Modification 1 described above to a frame 150D.
[0074] Frame 150D is formed by increasing the thickness (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of main body 151A and wiring portions 153, 163, 173, and 183 of frame 150A according to the above-described variant example 1 to the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of terminal portions 152, 162, 172, and 182 of frame 150A.
[0075] Specifically, the frame 150D has a main body 151D and protruding portions 154D, 164D, 174D, and 184D. The main body 151D and the protruding portions 154D, 164D, 174D, and 184D have substantially the same height (dimension in the Z-axis direction).
[0076] The protrusion 154D has a terminal portion 152D, a wiring portion 153D, and a branch portion 155D. The height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of the wiring portion 153D is greater than the width (dimension in the X-axis direction) of the wiring portion 153D and is approximately equal to the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of the terminal portion 152D. In other words, the terminal portion 152D is the tip surface of the wiring portion 153D.
[0077] The protrusion 164D has a terminal portion 162D and a wiring portion 163D. The height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of the wiring portion 163D is greater than the width (dimension in the Y-axis direction) of the wiring portion 163D and is substantially equal to the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of the terminal portion 162D. In other words, the terminal portion 162D is the tip surface of the wiring portion 163D.
[0078] Similarly, protrusion 174D has terminal portion 172D and wiring portion 173D. The height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of wiring portion 173D is greater than the width (dimension in the X-axis direction) of wiring portion 173D and is substantially equal to the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of terminal portion 172D. In other words, terminal portion 172D is the tip surface of wiring portion 173D.
[0079] Similarly, protrusion 184D has terminal portion 182D and wiring portion 183D. The height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of wiring portion 183D is greater than the width (dimension in the Y-axis direction) of wiring portion 183D and is approximately equal to the height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of terminal portion 182D. In other words, terminal portion 182D is the tip surface of wiring portion 183D.
[0080] As described above, the thickness (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of each wiring portion 153D, 163D, 173D, and 183D may be increased so that the tip surface of each wiring portion 153D, 163D, 173D, and 183D abuts against the side surface 121a of the dielectric block 121.
[0081] By doing so, the stability of the posture of the dielectric block 121 is improved, and as a result, the antenna characteristics as a dielectric resonator antenna can be stabilized.
[0082] The "tip surface of wiring portion 153D" and the "tip surfaces of wiring portions 163D, 173D, 183D" according to this fourth modification may correspond to the "tip surface of the first wiring portion" and the "tip surface of the second wiring portion" of the present disclosure, respectively.
[0083] <Modification 5> In the above-described embodiment and modifications 1 to 4, the dielectric block 121 is held by four protrusions, but the number of protrusions holding the dielectric block 121 may be five or more.
[0084] 9 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120E according to Modification 5. The antenna device 120E is obtained by changing the frame 150D of the antenna device 120D according to Modification 4 described above to a frame 150E.
[0085] The frame 150E is obtained by adding protrusions 210 and 220 to the frame 150D according to the above-described modified example 4. Like the other protrusions 164D, 174D, and 184D, each of the protrusions 210 and 220 has the same height (dimension in the Z-axis direction) as the main body 151D, and protrudes from the main body 151D toward the dielectric block 121, with its tip surface abutting against the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121.
[0086] In the antenna device 120E according to the fifth modification, the dielectric block 121 is held by a total of six protrusions 154D, 164D, 174D, 184D, 210, and 220. This improves the stability of the posture of the dielectric block 121, and stabilizes the antenna characteristics as a dielectric resonator antenna.
[0087] <Variation 6> In the above-described embodiment and variations 1 to 5, the height of the wiring portion of the power supply protrusion connected to the power supply point SP and the height of the wiring portion of the other holding protrusions are approximately equal, but the height of the wiring portion of the power supply protrusion and the height of the wiring portion of the holding protrusion may be made different.
[0088] 10 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120F according to an example of Modification 6. A frame 160F of the antenna device 120F has a power feeding protrusion 154 and holding protrusions 164D, 174D, 184D, 210, 220, 230, and 240.
[0089] The power supply protrusion 154 has a thin plate shape, similar to the frame 150 according to the above-described embodiment, and its tip is bent at approximately 90° relative to the wiring portion and abuts against the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121. In contrast, the holding protrusions 164D, 174D, 184D, 210, 220, 230, and 240 are higher than the height of the wiring portion of the power supply protrusion 154, and their tip surfaces abut against the side surface 121 a of the dielectric block 121.
[0090] Fig. 11 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120G according to another example of the sixth modification. A frame 160G of the antenna device 120G is obtained by removing the holding protrusions 164D, 174D, 184D, 230, and 240 from the frame 160F of the antenna device 120F shown in Fig. 10 above. That is, the frame 160G has a power feeding protrusion 154 having a thin plate shape, and holding protrusions 210 and 220 that are thicker than the power feeding protrusion 154.
[0091] As described above, the wiring portion of the holding protrusion may be made thicker while the wiring portion of the power supply protrusion 154 is made thinner. This allows the length and width of the wiring portion of the power supply protrusion 154 to be changed to finely adjust the electrical characteristics, while the holding protrusion can firmly hold the dielectric block 121.
[0092] <Seventh Modification> FIG. 12 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120H according to the seventh modification.
[0093] The antenna device 120H is obtained by adding a first electrode pattern 156 and second electrode patterns 166, 176, and 186 to the antenna device 120 according to the above-described embodiment.
[0094] The first electrode pattern 156 is disposed between the power supply protrusion 154 and the mounting surface 130a of the board in contact with the protrusion 154, and is connected to the power supply point SP. The first electrode pattern 156 is disposed along the power supply protrusion 154 at a position overlapping with the power supply protrusion 154 when viewed in a plan view from the Z-axis direction.
[0095] By arranging the first electrode pattern 156 in this manner, there is no electrical effect even if the distance between the power supply protrusion 154 and the ground electrode GND arranged in the lower layer of the substrate 130 varies due to manufacturing variations, and as a result, the electrical characteristics of the power supply protrusion 154 can be stabilized.
[0096] The second electrode patterns 166, 176, 186 are respectively arranged between the holding protrusions 164, 174, 184 and the mounting surface 130a of the substrate in a state of contact with the protrusions 164, 174, 184. The second electrode patterns 166, 176, 186 are respectively arranged at positions overlapping with the holding protrusions 164, 174, 184 when viewed in a plan view from the Z-axis direction.
[0097] Fig. 13 is a cross-sectional view of the antenna device 120H cut along the YZ plane passing through the second electrode pattern 176. As shown in Fig. 13, the second electrode pattern 176 is connected to the ground electrode GND arranged on the lower layer of the substrate 130 through a via 177. Although not shown, the other second electrode patterns 166 and 186 are also connected to the ground electrode GND arranged on the lower layer of the substrate 130 through a via, similar to the second electrode pattern 176.
[0098] By arranging the second electrode patterns 166, 176, 186 in this manner, it is possible to suppress unwanted waves from the holding protrusions 164, 174, 184.
[0099] The "first electrode pattern 156" and "second electrode patterns 166, 176, 186" according to the seventh modified example may correspond to the "first electrode pattern" and "second electrode pattern" of the present disclosure, respectively.
[0100] <Variant 8> In the antenna device 120 according to the above-described embodiment, the main body portions 151, 161, 171, and 181 of the frame are arranged so as to surround the periphery of the dielectric block 121, but the main body portions of the frame are not necessarily limited to being arranged so as to surround the periphery of the dielectric block 121.
[0101] 14 is a perspective view of an antenna device 120I according to an example of Modification 8. In the antenna device 120I, one frame main body is arranged on each side of one dielectric block in the X-axis direction, sandwiching the dielectric block therebetween.
[0102] 15 is a perspective view of an antenna device 120J according to another example of Modification 8. In the antenna device 120J, one frame main body is arranged on each side of one dielectric block 121 in the Y-axis direction.
[0103] In this way, the main body of the frame may be disposed so as to sandwich the dielectric block 121. <Modification 9> In the above-described embodiment and modifications 1 to 8, one dielectric block is provided with one power supply protrusion, but the number of power supply protrusions for one dielectric block may be two or more.
[0104] 16 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120K according to an example of Modification 9. In the antenna device 120K, the frame 160 of the antenna device 120 according to the above-described embodiment is changed to a frame 160K.
[0105] The frame 160K has a protrusion for feeding power instead of a holding protrusion, similar to the frame 150. That is, the frame 160K has a main body portion that is located at a position away from the dielectric block 121 in the negative direction of the X-axis, and a protrusion portion that protrudes from the main body portion in the positive direction of the X-axis toward the dielectric block 121. The protrusion portion of the frame 160K has a configuration similar to that of the frame 150, and is connected to a feeding point SP2.
[0106] In the antenna device 120K, a high-frequency signal can be supplied to each dielectric block 121 from the protruding portion of the frame 150 and a high-frequency signal can be supplied from the protruding portion of the frame 160K. The polarization direction of the radiated radio waves differs depending on the feeding position of the high-frequency signal to the dielectric block 121. In other words, the antenna device 120K is a so-called dual-polarized type antenna module that can radiate radio waves in two different polarization directions.
[0107] 17 is a partially enlarged view of the periphery of one dielectric block 121 in an antenna device 120L according to another example of Modification 9. In the antenna device 120L, the frame 170 of the antenna device 120 according to the above-described embodiment is changed to a frame 170L.
[0108] The frame 170L has a protrusion for feeding power instead of a holding protrusion, similar to the frame 150. That is, the frame 170L has a main body portion that is located at a position away from the dielectric block 121 in the negative Y-axis direction, and a protrusion portion that protrudes from the main body portion in the positive Y-axis direction toward the dielectric block 121. The protrusion portion of the frame 170L has the same configuration as the protrusion portion of the frame 150, and is connected to a feeding point SP3.
[0109] In the antenna device 120L, a high-frequency signal from the protruding portion of the frame 150 and a high-frequency signal from the protruding portion of the frame 170L can be supplied to each dielectric block 121. For example, by adjusting the difference in phase between the high-frequency signal from the protruding portion of the frame 150 and the high-frequency signal from the protruding portion of the frame 170L, it is possible to adjust the characteristics of the radio waves radiated from each dielectric block 121.
