[0002] Assignment ID: D2222011

[0003] Ministry name: Gyeonggi Province

[0004] Research Management Specialist Organization: Gyeonggi Province Economic and Science Promotion Agency

[0005] Research Project Name: Corporate-led General

[0006] Research Project Title: Development of a Medical Device for Dry Eye Treatment Using Ocular Surface Heat and Wetness Combination Therapy

[0007] Lead research institution: BioOptics Co., Ltd.

[0008] Research period: July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023

[0009] Dry eye syndrome, also known as dry eye syndrome or dry eye syndrome, is a collection of uncomfortable symptoms, including dryness, burning, foreign body sensation, and blurred vision, that occur when the quantity and quality of the tear film, which moistens the eyes and keeps them soft and comfortable, decreases or changes, i.e., there is an abnormality in the tear film.

[0010] Dry eye is one of the most common reasons patients visit ophthalmologists. These days, people are not only exposed to air pollution, but also live in constantly dry environments due to low humidity and poor ventilation in well-heated buildings and closed offices. These living conditions increase the risk of dry eye. Furthermore, the constant use of mobile devices, computers, and other monitors, which forces the eyes to constantly read and view, further exacerbates the condition.

[0011] Furthermore, dry eye was common in middle-aged and older women who lacked tears, but now, many cases of dry eye have progressed to chronic conjunctivitis due to prolonged dry eye, or are accompanied by blepharitis caused by neglecting eyelid hygiene. It has become very common regardless of gender or age, and these diseases are sometimes related to each other or one can be the cause of the other. According to a study by a university hospital, more than 90% of the population of a large city in Korea responded that they have experienced dry eye, making it an extremely common disease in modern people.

[0012] When examining the eyes of people with dry eye, yellow, millet-shaped blisters are often seen just inside the eyelashes. These are the openings of the meibomian glands, which secrete the oily components of the tear film. When these glands become blocked by debris or other debris, they appear as yellow blisters. When these openings become blocked, adequate oil production is prevented, exacerbating dry eye.

[0013] For mild cases of dry eye, which most people suffer from, simply improving the ocular surface environment—which prevents tear evaporation and promotes tear production—can lead to improvement. Commonly known methods for improving the ocular surface environment include artificial tears and punctal occlusion. However, artificial tears only provide temporary relief from symptoms and do not provide a fundamental treatment. Overuse of preservative-containing artificial tears, in particular, can actually harm eye health. Surgery is another option, but carries a high recurrence rate.

[0014] Therefore, ophthalmologists recommend warm steam towel massage and compresses to the eyes to provide heat to the eyes, stimulate the oil-clogged ducts, and moisturize the eyes to prevent them from drying out.

[0015] However, steam towel massage and steaming had the problem of requiring frequent replacement as it was difficult to continuously supply moisture and heat, and there was inconvenience and inconvenience in using them.

[0016] The present invention has been devised to solve the problems of the past, and the purpose of the present invention is to provide a goggle-type dry eye treatment device that is worn on a user's head in a goggle-type manner and can prevent and treat dry eye by providing moisture and heat to the eyes, and can improve the convenience and efficiency of treatment.

[0065] At this time, the remote controller (1000) may be used after the user directly operates it and then mounts the treatment device (10) of the present invention on the user's head, or another person may operate the remote controller (1000) on behalf of the user while the user is mounting the device (10).

[0066] For example, in manual mode, you can set the temperature by pressing the manual mode key and pressing the up / down control keys on the temperature setting screen, set the humidity by pressing the manual mode key and pressing the up / down control keys on the humidity setting screen, and set the time by pressing the manual mode key and pressing the up / down control keys on the time setting screen.

[0067] And, the automatic mode is divided into weak mode, medium mode, and strong mode, each with preset temperature, humidity, and time. Here, the weak mode is set to temperature 20-30℃, humidity 0-35%, and time 10 minutes, the medium mode is set to temperature 30-45℃, humidity 35-60%, and time 13 minutes, and the strong mode is set to temperature 35-60℃, humidity 35-85%, and time 15 minutes. In other words, you can select any one of the weak, medium, and strong modes by pressing the automatic mode key.

[0068] The present invention's goggle-type dry eye treatment device (10) having the above-described configuration first selects temperature, humidity, time, etc. from a remote controller (1000) to generate a heat source from a heating part (240) and simultaneously spray moisture from a humidifying nozzle (230).

[0069] At this time, the user's face is positioned on the facial area (200) and the user's eyes correspond to the left and right shield members (700-1, 700-2), respectively, and dry eye is prevented and treated by the heat generated from the heating part (240) and the moisture sprayed from the humidifying nozzle (230) through the openings (700a) of the left and right shield members (700-1, 700-2).

[0070] Accordingly, the present invention can simultaneously perform heat therapy and moisture therapy by ensuring that the user's eyes are appropriately humidified by the heat source generated from the heating unit (240) and the moisture sprayed from the humidifying nozzle (230), thereby increasing the efficiency of preventing and treating dry eye.

[0071] In addition, it is miniaturized into a goggle shape, has a simple structure, and is easy to operate, thereby improving the convenience of use and treatment.

[0072] Hereinafter, with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5, the internal configuration and operational relationship of the goggle-type dry eye treatment device (10) of the present invention will be examined in more detail as follows.

[0073] First, the facial part (200) is provided with a covering member (700; 700-1, 700-2) that is provided in front of the user's face side of the humidifying nozzle (230) and allows moisture and heat emitted from the humidifying nozzle (230) to selectively pass only toward the eyes.

[0074] According to one embodiment, the shield members (700; 700-1, 700-2) may be provided one each on the left and right sides of the face, and are detachable so that the interior can be easily cleaned after the shield members (700; 700-1, 700-2) are removed at any time.

[0075] In addition, a silicone pad (300) is provided around the edge of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2). Accordingly, the user's eye can be installed at a certain distance from the hole (700a) of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) depending on the thickness of the silicone pad (300).

[0076] The above-mentioned shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) may be composed of a film including at least one material of a synthetic resin material, ceramic, or metal of a certain thickness.

[0077] Referring to FIG. 4, according to one embodiment, the apertures (700a) of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) may be elongated slot-shaped or circular apertures. At this time, the number of the apertures (700a) may be two each on the left and right sides of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2), i.e., the apertures may be formed in an appropriate size and number to roughly correspond to the size of the user's eyeballs at the location where the user's eyeballs are positioned.

[0078] That is, the above-mentioned shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) primarily blocks and absorbs infrared rays emitted from the heating unit (240) and then re-radiates them across the entire surface toward the user's face.

[0079] To this end, the material of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) absorbs heat radiated from the heating part (340) and then re-radiates heat of 40 degrees or more toward the user's eyes. According to one embodiment, polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene (ABS), polyurethane resin, aluminum sheet, etc. can be used as the material.

[0080] According to one embodiment, the heating unit (240) may be an IR (Infra Red) LED lamp that emits infrared rays with a wavelength of 630 to 860 nm. Therefore, the soft IR light emitted from the heating unit (240) may improve dry eye by adding a thermal treatment effect to the user's eyes. The heating unit (240) may be arranged in multiple numbers on the edges and central portions across the entire surface of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2).

[0081] In addition, a temperature sensor (250) and a humidity sensor (260) may be installed in the temperature and humidity detection hole (200a) between the above-mentioned shield members (700; 700-1, 700-2), respectively, or adjacently.

[0082] According to another embodiment, the temperature sensor (250) and humidity sensor (260) may be a temperature and humidity sensor that is a combination of two sensors integrated into one.

[0083] In addition, electronic components such as the heating unit (240), temperature sensor (250), and humidity sensor (260) are mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB, no symbol), and the printed circuit board (PCB) can be placed between the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) and the main body (100).

[0084] Accordingly, the heating part (240) is positioned so that it is not exposed and covered by the covering member (700; 700-1, 700-2) when viewed by the user, and the temperature sensor (250) and the humidity sensor (260) can be positioned so that they are exposed forward through the temperature and humidity detection hole (200a) when viewed by the user.

[0085] Additionally, an elastic silicone pad (300) is provided on the peripheral edge of the above-mentioned shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2).

[0086] Accordingly, as the user presses his / her face against the silicone pad (300), the inner space between the user's eyes and facial area (200) is sealed from the outside air.

[0087] Accordingly, as described above, by additionally installing a shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) on the face portion (200), moisture and heat emitted from the humidifying nozzle (230) and the heating portion (240) are primarily blocked from being directly sprayed onto the user's eyes, and only a small amount of moisture and heat suitable for treating dry eye is transmitted to the user's eyes through the opening (700a) of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2).

[0088] More specifically, referring to FIG. 5, only one humidifying nozzle (230) can be installed in the center, and an airflow guide plate (900) tapered left and right is provided in front of the humidifying nozzle (230), so that moisture sprayed from the humidifying nozzle (230) can be guided toward the left and right ventilation holes (700a). (See arrows in FIG. 5)

[0089] Accordingly, burns and discomfort that may occur when moisture and heat emitted from the humidifying nozzle (230) and heating element (240) are directly sprayed onto the user's eyes can be significantly reduced.

[0090] Meanwhile, moisture that does not pass through the opening (700a) of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2) condenses into water droplets on the surface of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2), flows down the surface of the shield member (700; 700-1, 700-2), and is then discharged downward.

[0091] Meanwhile, in another embodiment, when the intensity of IR light radiated from the heating element is set to be strong, the shield member absorbs the IR light and becomes hot, and at this time, the moisture formed on the shield member is all evaporated by the hotly heated shield member before condensing into water droplets, so a separate configuration for draining water droplets, as in the above-described embodiment, is not required and can be eliminated.

[0092] Fig. 6 is a diagram showing the internal configuration of a goggle-type dry eye treatment device according to another embodiment of the present invention, and Fig. 7 is a perspective view showing an enlarged portion of the ultrasonic vibrator and water tank portion of Fig. 6.

[0093] Referring to FIGS. 6 and 7, the goggle-type dry eye treatment device (10) of the present invention can be configured such that the ultrasonic vibrator (110) and the water tank (1200) are directly connected according to another embodiment.

[0094] That is, according to another embodiment, the ampoule detachment part (600) described above in FIGS. 1 to 5 may be removed, and instead of the ampoule detachment part (600), the water tank (1200) may be directly connected to the ultrasonic vibrator (110). Accordingly, the user may open the water inlet cap (1210) of the water tank (1200) and inject distilled water to fill the water tank, thereby allowing the distilled water filled in the water tank (1200) to be directly supplied to the ultrasonic vibrator (110).

[0095] Meanwhile, the water tank (1200) may be configured as a rechargeable type with a water inlet plug (1210) as described above, or as another embodiment, the water tank (1200) and the ultrasonic vibrator (110) themselves may be configured to be detachable in a cartridge manner, and the water tank (1200) may be separated and washed, or may be easily replaced with a new water tank (1200) filled with sterilized distilled water, and various other embodiments are possible.

[0096] In addition, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and the same effect can be created even when the detailed configuration, number, and arrangement structure of the device are changed. Therefore, it is stated that a person having ordinary skill in the art can add, delete, and modify various configurations within the scope of the technical idea of the present invention.

[0097] The present invention can be widely used in the field of goggle-type dry eye treatment devices.
