Abstract
Description
[0001] DESCRIPTION
[0002] TITLE: Method for smoothing keratin fibres
[0003] The present invention relates to a method for smoothing / straightening keratin fibres, in particular the hair, comprising i) the application to the keratin fibres of a composition comprising at least one alkanolamine, at least one compound chosen from amino acids and their derivatives, and at least one alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium hydroxide, ii) a rinsing stage, iii) optionally a drying stage and iv) a smoothing / straightening stage.
[0004] In the hair field, consumers wish to have available compositions which make it possible to introduce a temporary change to their head of hair, while targeting good shape retention of the effect produced. In general, it is desired for the change to withstand shampooing for at least fifteen days, indeed even more, depending on the nature of said change.
[0005] Heat treatments are generally used to modify the shape of the head of hair in a long-lasting manner. These treatments make possible a visual modification of the appearance of the hairstyle, combining a decrease in the degree of frizziness, a reduction in overall volume of the head of hair, a decrease in little curls, a gain in manageability, a smoother visual appearance, a substantial gain in sheen, and a resistance to humidity and to heat for maintenance of the hairstyle throughout the day.
[0006] Moreover, this type of treatment has the advantage of facilitating the daily maintenance of the head of hair, with the use of fewer care products, in particular of rinse-out care products, such as conditioners or masks, or of leave-in care products, such as sera, care creams or balms, or taming mousses. Drying of the hair is facilitated, with a markedly shortened blow-drying time and a decrease in the daily use of flat tongs, in terms both of time and of intensity. This thus makes it possible to limit the risks of damaging the hair through combined factors of mechanical and thermal stress.
[0007] Several techniques are associated with these heat treatments. A first technique is based on the use of compositions based on thiol-comprising reducing agents. These techniques require strict adherence to the application conditions recommended by the suppliers, in particular in terms of amounts and of leave-in time. In addition, they may be contra-indicated on hair which is too sensitized and may not be compatible with the same-day application of other treatments, such as dyeing or bleaching operations. Moreover, they have an unpleasant smell. Another technique is based on the use of compositions based on acids, and very particularly on the use of glyoxylic acid. Patent Application WO 2011 / 104282 has thus proposed a novel method for semi-permanently smoothing the hair, which consists in applying an a-keto acid solution to the hair for 15 to 120 minutes, in then drying and finally in smoothing the head of hair with an iron at a temperature of approximately 200°C. The a-keto acid employed is preferably glyoxylic acid.
[0008] However, it has been noted that glyoxylic acid may not be well tolerated, in particular when the scalp is sensitive and / or irritated. Its volatility, accentuated by the use of heat from the iron, can also present a problem. Furthermore, the compositions of the prior art may adversely affect the hair and / or adversely affect its colour.
[0009] Treatments using a composition comprising a base combined with a heat treatment for smoothing the hair have also been proposed. Such treatments make it possible to obtain good relaxation of curls but can lead to adverse changes in the hair fibre. The document EP 1837010 describes in particular a smoothing / straightening method using a composition comprising sodium hydroxide and a heat treatment. The document WO 2007 / 144707 describes a smoothing / straightening method using a composition comprising a non-hydroxylated base, such as monoethanolamine or ethylenediamine, combined with a heat treatment. The document WO 2009 / 117344 also describes a smoothing / straightening method using a composition comprising a non-hydroxylated base and a protein-denaturing agent, combined with a heat treatment.
[0010] In order to limit adverse changes to the hair fibres, it has also been proposed to use compositions comprising weak acids at alkaline pH, combined with a heat treatment. The document WO 2010 / 049434 describes, for example, a smoothing / straightening method in which a composition comprising a dicarboxylic acid, such as maleic acid, and a heat treatment are applied. Such treatments are not always satisfactory in terms of results and / or of persistence.
[0011] There still exists a need to develop a method for the treatment of the hair, in particular a smoothing / straightening method, which makes it possible to smooth / straighten and / or to reduce the frizziness of the hair in an effective and long- lasting manner while limiting the damage to the hair.
[0012] Thus, the present invention relates to a method for smoothing and / or straightening keratin fibres, in particular human keratin fibres, such as the hair, successively comprising: i) a stage of application, to said keratin fibres, of at least one composition comprising at least one alkanolamine, at least one compound chosen from amino acids and their derivatives, and at least one alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium hydroxide, ii) at least one stage of rinsing the keratin fibres, iii) optionally a stage of drying said keratin fibres, iv) a stage of smoothing / straightening the keratin fibres, during which at least one heat treatment is applied to said fibres.
[0013] Such a method makes it possible to obtain a rapid smoothing of the keratin fibres, starting from a single composition, which withstands several shampooing operations. The method of the invention is thus both simple to carry out and its effect is long-lasting.
[0014] The method of the invention makes it possible to minimize the risks of damage to or sensitization of keratin fibres.
[0015] The method of the invention also makes possible modulation of the relaxing of curls as a function of the input of heat.
[0016] The method of the invention can additionally be carried out on all types of hair, even very sensitized hair, while preserving, indeed even while improving, the cosmetic qualities of the fibre, such as sheen, smooth feel and ease of styling (reduction in volume and little curls), and also its natural appearance with loose, individualized and light hairs, and also a natural feel.
[0017] The method according to the invention makes it possible in particular to improve the cosmetic feel of the hair, in particular by making it smoother to the touch. In addition, the method does not emit any bad smell during the application of heat in the course of the smoothing / straightening stage.
[0018] In the context of the present invention, the term "smoothing / straightening" is understood to mean a method which makes it possible to reduce the level of curling of the hair; it also generally makes it possible to reduce the volume of the hair. The reduction in the level of curling can extend as far as the complete smoothing of the hair.

[0143] Preferably, the composition according to the invention is applied to dry or wet hair, more preferentially wet hair, it having been possible for said hair to be shampooed and / or rinsed beforehand, in particular with water, before application of said composition according to the invention.
[0144] Stage i) can optionally be preceded by a stage of washing with a shampoo and / or by a stage of rinsing, preferably with water.
[0145] The method of the invention is preferably carried out on wet keratin fibres, preferentially on wet hair.
[0146] The application of the composition in stage i) can be carried out by any means, such as by means of a brush or of a comb or also with the fingers.
[0147] Preferably, the leave-on time of the composition on the keratin fibres in stage i) ranges from 5 to 90 minutes, preferentially from 10 to 60 minutes, more preferentially from 15 to 45 minutes. Within the meaning of the present invention, the leave-on time is the contact time of the composition on the keratin fibres.
[0148] Preferably, the composition according to the invention is left to stand on the keratin fibres at ambient temperature.
[0149] Within the meaning of the present invention, the term “ambient temperature” is understood to mean a temperature varying from 20°C to 37°C.

[0162] When the smoothing / straightening stage is carried out using a smoothing iron, it may be necessary to carry out several passes of the smoothing iron, generally between 1 and 10 passes, preferably between 3 and 5 passes, each pass being carried out between 5 and 40 seconds. According to a particular embodiment with the smoothing iron, the duration of the treatment of the locks of hair is at most 1 minute.
[0163] The method according to the invention can be carried out on sensitized or nonsensitized keratin fibres.
[0164] Preferably, the method for smoothing and / or straightening keratin fibres, in particular human keratin fibres, such as the hair, successively comprises:
[0165] (i) a stage of application, to wet keratin fibres, of at least one composition comprising at least one alkanolamine, at least one compound chosen from taurine and its derivatives and at least one alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide; the ratio by weight of the total content of alkanolamine(s) to the total content of compound(s) chosen from taurine and its derivatives is greater than 1; preferably, the leave-on time of the composition varies from 5 to 90 minutes, ii) at least one stage of rinsing the keratin fibres, iii) optionally a stage of drying the keratin fibres, iv) a stage of smoothing / straightening the keratin fibres, during which at least one heat treatment is applied to said fibres.

Preferably, in accordance with this embodiment, the ratio by weight of the content of monoethanolamine to the total content of compound(s) chosen from taurine and its derivatives is greater than 1, preferably greater than 1.1.
[0168] The following examples serve to illustrate the invention without, however, exhibiting a limiting nature.
[0169] Examples
[0170] In the examples which follow, all the amounts are shown as percentage by weight of active material (AM), with respect to the total weight of the composition (unless otherwise mentioned).
[0171] Example 1 a) Composition
[0172] The following composition A was prepared from the ingredients shown in the table below:
[0173] [Table 1] b) Protocol
[0174] Locks of Curl Type V curly hair (2.7 g) are washed beforehand with a shampoo.
[0175] The composition A is subsequently applied to wet hair in a proportion of 1 g of composition per gram of lock.
[0176] A leave-on time of the composition on the locks of 30 minutes in the open air and at ambient temperature is observed.
[0177] The locks are rinsed with water at the rate of 20 passes of fingers under water (method according to the invention) or are not rinsed (comparative method).
[0178] The locks are dried with a hand-held hair dryer and then smoothed using a smoothing iron at a temperature of 230°C (5 passes).
[0179] A sensory evaluation (smooth feel, ease of passage of the smoothing iron and an evaluation of the reduction in the curls are carried out at the time of the smoothing (tO), after 1 shampooing operation and after 5 shampooing operations. c) Results
[0180] The results are presented in the table below:
[0181] [Table 2]
[0182] The method according to the invention, comprising a rinsing stage between the stages of application of the composition A and of smoothing, makes it possible to obtain better relaxing of the curls, with a passage of the smoothing iron which is facilitated and a better cosmetic quality, in particular concerning the individualization of the hairs, compared with the comparative method.
[0183] After 5 shampooing operations, the curl relaxation is preserved with the method of the invention.
[0184] The method of the invention thus makes it possible to obtain a better smoothing which is more long-lasting, in particular which is resistant to shampooing operations, compared with the comparative method.
[0185] Example 2
[0186] The composition B according to the invention was prepared from the ingredients shown in the table below:
[0187] [Table 3]
[0188] The composition B exhibits a pH of 10.7.
[0189] When the composition B is applied according to the application protocol described above, there is obtained a smoothing which is lasting, without smell during the application of the composition B. After 15 shampooing operations, the hair is still smooth, well-behaved, individualized and easy to style.
