Abstract

Disclosed herein is a multi-piece shovel for agricultural applications. The disclosed shovel solves the problems of the blades of common shovels (including heavy weight to have enough strength and also the edges not being sharp enough due to the thickness, as well as the need for more hardness and wear resistance in the edges that are to be inserted into the soil). A head part of the shovel is made in the central and high-stress parts of the head part, thicker and with a softer alloy resistant to bending, and in the low-stress parts, including the edges that are to be inserted into the soil, thinner and with a harder alloy.

Description

SHOVEL FOR AGRICULTURAL APPLICATIONSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to mechanical engineering. The present disclosure particularly relates to digging tools, and more particularly relates to a shovel for use by a single person and in agricultural applications.BACKGROUND ART

[0002] Since the days of our earlier ancestors, men and women have utilized tools and other implements to perform various tasks. The types of tools that were utilized depended on the specific task that was being performed. For example, there were tools developed for hunting and cooking, which were two of the most important requirements of our early ancestors. As mankind has progressed, the number of tools and the functionality of tools has steadily increased. There are some tools that have remained fundamentally unchanged in both form and function. One such tool is a shovel, which has been in use for a long time. A shovel’s main function is to dig, although shovels may be used for other purposes such as moving a pile of dirt or debris from one location to another.

[0003] To accomplish its task, a typical shovel may be designed as a curved or flat substrate that is attached to a handle. A person may hold the handle while using the substrate to dig or carry an item. The extent of a typical shovel’s functionality depends on the strength / physical ability of the person using it. Shoveling, especially heavy material can be a difficult task, and many people, even someone who is strong and fit, may be only capable of shoveling for a limited amount of time.

[0004] Furthermore, when a blade of a shovel is inserted into the hard soil, and a user (such as a farmer), in order to digging the soil, exerts a downward force to the handle of the shovel, a great bending moment may be applied to the blade of the shovel which may lead to fracture in the blade of the shovel. In order to solve this problem, the blade of the shovel may be made with a relatively high thickness (for example, about 1.7 mm) but this high thickness may lead to higher weight of the blade which may lead to the user’s fatigue and decrease his / her efficiency. Furthermore, when thickness of the blade increases, it may be tougher to digging hard soil for the user. Also, cutting roots and weeds may be tougher. There is, therefore, a needfor a shovel that is easy to use for the user and also enough strength against applied forces to the shovel.SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0049] As discussed above, in order to solve the problems of the blades of common shovels (including heavy weight to have enough strength and also the edges not being sharp enough due to the thickness, as well as the need for more hardness and wear resistance in the edges that are to be inserted into the soil), multi-piece head part 104 is disclosed. Head part 104 are made in the central and high-stress parts of the head part, thicker and with a softer alloy resistant to bending, and in the low-stress parts, including the edges that are to be inserted into the soil, thinner and with a harder alloy.

[0050] This invention includes different types of agricultural shovels, such as flat blade shovels, round blade shovels (shovels and / or spades), etc. utilizing disclosed shovel 100 may provide significant benefits. For example, the central parts of head part 104, which may bear extreme bending stress, are thicker than the central parts of common shovels of the same type. Also, due to the selection of steel with relatively less carbon, it has less hardness than the blades of common shovels. As a result, the bending strength and resistance to failure of head part 104 of shovel 100 may be much higher than the blades of common shovels of the same type.

[0051] Furthermore, parts of head part 104 that bear less bending stress (middle member 144), have less thickness than the blades of common shovels of the same type in the market. As a result, the edge of head part 104 that is configured to into the soil in may be much sharper than the soles of common shovels. Also, because the steel material of the edge of head part 104 thatis configured to into the soil is selected from steel with a higher percentage of carbon than the usual shovels, as a result, the blades of the shovels produced by the method of this invention have greater wear resistance due to the final hardness of the edges of common shovels.

[0052] Also, because the surface area of the thinner part (socket member 142 and blade member 146) is greater than the surface area of the thicker part (middle part 144), the weight of head part 104 made by the method of this invention may be less than blades of common shovels of the same type in the market. Furthermore, the shape of sheet of the of the thicker piece (middle part 144) is designed in such a way that bending stresses are not concentrated anywhere on the surface of the final product and do not cause failure.

[0053] While the foregoing has described what may be considered to be the best mode and / or other examples, it is understood that various modifications may be made therein and that the subject matter disclosed herein may be implemented in various forms and examples, and that the teachings may be applied in numerous applications, only some of which have been described herein.
