System and method of storing database tuples in a row-based slotted buffer pool cache of a database system
By dividing the buffer pool cache into fixed-sized buffers with unique slot identifiers and using a hash function based on primary keys and page identifiers, the database system effectively addresses inefficiencies in storing and managing database rows, enhancing performance and reducing collisions.

AI Technical Summary
Existing database systems face inefficiencies in storing and managing database rows or tuples in a row-based slotted buffer pool cache, leading to suboptimal performance due to collisions and inefficient data allocation.
The buffer pool cache memory is divided into fixed-sized buffers, each indexed with a unique slot identifier. Database rows or tuples are assigned to these slots using a primary key and page identifier as input to a hash function, minimizing collisions and improving data allocation.
This approach enhances database performance by reducing collisions and optimizing data storage, leading to improved retrieval and management of database rows or tuples.
Abstract
Description
[0001] System and Method of Storing Database Tuples in a Row-Based Slotted Buffer Pool Cache of a Database System
[0002] Here in this invention, for storing database rows or tuples in a row-based slotted buffer pool cache of the database system we divide the buffer pool cache memory into fixed sized buffers wherein each buffer can be indexed with the help of a unique slot identifier. Further for assigning database rows or tuples to above said slots (or slot identifiers) we use the primary key for the row along with the page identifier where the primary key is stored as the input to the hash function to compute the hash value or the slot identifier. The above scheme helps to minimise collisions and provides better database performance.
Claims
Following is the claim for this invention1. Here, for storing database rows or tuples in a row-based slotted buffer pool cache of the database system we divide the buffer pool cache memory into fixed sized buffers wherein each buffer can be indexed with the help of a unique slot identifier. Further for assigning database rows or tuples to above said slots (or slot identifiers) we use the primary key for the row along with the page identifier where the primary key is stored as the input to the hash function to compute the hash value or the slot identifier. The above scheme helps to minimise collisions and provides better database performance.
