AI Technical Summary
Quick charging of electrified motor vehicles generates excessive heat, which is inadequately managed by existing cooling systems, leading to recirculation of hot air and reduced cooling efficiency, especially when combined with refrigeration circuits.
A passenger car design featuring a front trunk with an air inlet and wedge-shaped air guide areas that direct ambient air downward and outward, reducing air recirculation and enhancing cooling capacity by improving air supply to the ambient air cooler.
This design enhances cooling capacity and reduces air recirculation, leading to improved thermal management and increased efficiency in heat dissipation during quick charging.

Abstract
Description
[0001] Passenger cars with a front trunk
[0002] The invention relates to a passenger car with a front trunk (a so-called frunk) and an air flow in connection therewith.
[0003] Figure 1 illustrates the front of a prior art electrified motor vehicle 1. In such electrified motor vehicles 1, a very large amount of heat can be dissipated during rapid charging. This heat energy is typically dissipated via a cooling module 2 (ambient air cooler), often using the cooling circuit. A fan 3 is typically used to supply air to the cooling module 2. Some of the hot air leaving the cooling module 2 is drawn back in front of the cooling module 2 through leaks and other effects. The arrows 4 illustrate such recirculation. This recirculation could be further intensified in the presence of a front trunk 5. This potentially increases the temperature in the cooling circuit and impairs the cooling effect. This would have negative effects, particularly in combination with a cooling circuit.
[0004] It is therefore an object of the present invention to at least partially eliminate the aforementioned disadvantages. This object is achieved by a passenger car according to claim 1. Advantageous developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
[0005] According to one embodiment of the invention, a passenger car is provided with a front trunk, so-called frunk; an air inlet at a vehicle front that lets in ambient air that impinges on a front side of the front trunk, wherein the front side has at least one air guide surface that increasingly moves away from a vehicle front along a vehicle vertical axis from top to bottom and along a vehicle transverse axis from a center of the front to the outside, so that the air is guided downwards and outwards along the front. This embodiment makes it possible to achieve improved air guidance behind the ambient air cooler and to reduce or avoid air recirculation, as described above. This leads to higher cooling performance in the cooling and / or refrigeration circuit.
[0006] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the front of the front trunk is wedge-shaped.
[0007] According to a further embodiment of the invention, a front edge of the wedge shape runs within a plane spanned by a vehicle vertical axis and the vehicle longitudinal axis.
[0008] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the wedge shape has two flanks extending from a front edge, which are curved inwards and form two air guide surfaces.
[0009] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the front of the front trunk has thermal insulation.
[0010] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the thermal insulation is formed by means of double walls, vacuum insulation, and / or insulating material. A preferred embodiment of the present invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. These drawings depict the following:
[0011] Figure 1 shows schematically a motor vehicle of the prior art;
[0012] Figure 2 shows schematically a passenger car according to a
[0013] Embodiment of the invention;
[0014] Figure 3a shows schematically a side view of a front trunk of the passenger car from Fig. 2;
[0015] Figure 3b shows schematically a front view of the front trunk of the passenger car from Fig. 2, and
[0016] Figure 3c shows a schematic sectional top view of the front trunk of the passenger car from Fig. 2.
[0017] Figure 2 schematically shows a passenger car 10 according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention. The passenger car 10 is an electrified motor vehicle that is driven purely electrically, at least temporarily. An ambient air cooler 11 is arranged at a front end of the passenger car 10. The ambient air cooler 11 is a heat exchanger through which ambient air can flow and through which coolant of a refrigeration circuit and / or refrigerant of a refrigeration circuit can flow, fluidically separated from the ambient air.
[0018] At the front end of the passenger vehicle 10, in front of the ambient air cooler 11, at least one air inlet 12 is arranged, through which the ambient air can enter and flow to the ambient air cooler 11. A fan 13 is assigned to the ambient air cooler 11, with which an air flow can be conveyed through the at least one air inlet 12 and the ambient air cooler 11.
[0019] Viewed along a vehicle's longitudinal axis x, a front trunk compartment 14 (a so-called frunk) is arranged behind the ambient air cooler 11. Air coming from the ambient air cooler 11, flowing along the vehicle's longitudinal axis x, encounters the front trunk compartment 14. The front trunk compartment 14 is a luggage storage space located in front of a vehicle passenger compartment.
[0020] Figure 3a schematically shows a side view (seen along a vehicle transverse axis y) and Figure 3b a front view (seen along a vehicle longitudinal axis x) of the front trunk 14. Furthermore, Figure 3c shows a sectional plan view of the front trunk 14 of the passenger car from Fig. 2, sectioned along a sectional plane AA from Fig. 3a. This has a front side 15 which forms at least one air guide surface 16. In the illustrated embodiment, two air guide surfaces 16 are formed on the front side 15. These air guide surfaces 16 are inclined overall such that they are closer to the front end of the passenger car 10 at their upper end than at their lower end. Furthermore, the front side 15 is wedge-shaped with a wedge shape having an edge 17 and two flanks extending therefrom, which form the two air guide surfaces 16.The edge 17 extends within a plane spanned by the vehicle's longitudinal axis x and a vehicle's vertical axis z. With respect to the vehicle's vertical axis z, the edge 17 is inclined such that the upper end of the edge 17 is closer to the front end of the passenger car 10 than to the lower end. From this edge 17, the air guide surfaces 16 extend outwards and rearwards. The air guide surfaces 16 are, for example, flat surfaces or inwardly curved surfaces, as shown by way of example in a sectional plan view in Fig. 3c, so that two air guide channels running obliquely downwards, rearwards and outwards are formed. Arrows 18 in Figs. 3a and 3b illustrate how an air flow striking the front side 15 is deflected by the air guide surfaces 16. The side view of Fig. 3a shows how the air flow is directed rearwards and downwards. The front view of Fig.Figure 3b shows how the air flow is directed downwards and outwards.
[0021] While the invention has been illustrated and described in detail in the drawings and the foregoing description, this illustration and description is to be understood as illustrative and not restrictive, and it is not intended to limit the invention to the disclosed embodiment. The mere fact that certain features are recited in various dependent claims is not intended to suggest that a combination of these features could not also be used to advantage.
