COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND ARTICLE
[0001] This application claims the priority from the Chinese patent application No. 202322176312.5 filed on August 11, 2023 and titled “COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND ARTICLE” and the Chinese patent application No. 202322799168.0 filed on October 18, 2023 and titled “COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND ARTICLE” , all contents of which are incorporated by reference into this application.TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] The present disclosure relates to textiles, and in particular, to a composite material and an article containing the same.BACKGROUND
[0003] A wadding is a sheet-like material made of fibers and can provide thermal insulation and warmth retention effects due to its fluffy and airy structural characteristics. For a long time, soft feather, cotton, and wool etc. are used as a thermal insulation material. With the development of the fiber industry, new thermal insulation materials that are made from chemical fibers had been successively developed and put into markets, altering the tradition of using cotton and soft feather as the filling material for thermal insulation and cold resistance.
[0004] With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, demands on performances of clothing and textile products are increasing, which raises the request for material with improved performance. With the continuous technology development, materials for clothing are not just fabrics or linings, but also composites of fabrics and linings. Adhesives that can be used to form such composites include water-based polypropylene system adhesives and EVA / polyamide hot melt adhesives, which are useful for composites of fabrics, and solvent-based adhesives and hot melt adhesive, which are useful for composites of fabrics and films.
[0005] Currently, composites of fabric and a wadding mainly use a thermoplastic hot melt adhesive, such as a thermoplastic polyurethane hot melt adhesive. The resulting composites of fabric and wadding from the use of thermoplastic hot melt adhesive usually represents a high thickness, for example about 0.5 mm or more. An application temperature of such thermoplastic hot melt adhesive is usually high, for example higher than 100 ℃, which damages fabrics and waddings and deteriorates their material performance. Thus, the existing composite material of fabric and wadding has a relatively high thickness and high hardness of the bonding area, which affects the overall use experience of the composite material.
[0006] Therefore, a problem to be solved is to provide a composite material of fabrics and waddings while the respective excellent characteristics of such fabrics and waddings may be remained in the resulting composite material.SUMMARY

[0023] Accordingly, the present disclosure further provides an article comprising the composite material as described herein, and such article can be one or more of a cushion, a blanket, a quilt, a clothing, or other household products. In some embodiments, the article comprises a composite material of the present disclosure that comprises a lining. In yet other embodiments, the article is absent of a lining, and in such embodiments, the fabric layer of the composite material serves as the outermost fabric of an article, and in further such embodiments, the fabric layer is a printed fabric, and when the printed fabric layer serves as the outermost fabric layer, technical advantages such as cost-saving, lightness and aesthetics of resulting product can be achieved.
[0024] In comparison with the prior art, the technical solution of this disclosure has following advantages.
[0025] A composite material provided in this technical solution includes a fabric layer, a wadding layer, and an adhesive layer placed between the fabric layer and the wadding layer. A thickness of the adhesive layer is about 0.5mm or less, preferably about 0.2mm or less, and / or a weight per square meter of the adhesive layer is 2 to 15 grams, preferably 2 to 10 grams. In this technical solution, a reactive hot melt adhesive, such as a moisture reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive, can be melted and applied to the wadding layer or the fabric layer at a relatively low temperature, for example below 100 ℃. After the adhesive is applied, an adhesive layer can be formed, and the wadding layer can then be placed on the formed adhesive layer. The fabric layer and wadding layer can be therefore bonded upon curing of the adhesive layer at a moisture environment.
[0026] As the adhesive layer of this technical solution is formed at a relatively low temperature, a high temperature pressing on the fabric layer and the wadding layer and a quilting of the fabric layer can thus be eliminated, and accordingly damage to the fabric layer and the wadding layer caused by such pressing and quilting can be reduced or avoided. The resulting composite material can retain the initial material properties of the fabric layer and the wadding layer, such as elasticity, resiliency, and warmth retention property, and can realized different combinations of various properties of the fabric layer and the wadding layer by selection of the fabric and wadding material. Apparently, the composite material having combined fabric layer and wadding layer represents enriched performance than that of either a single fabric layer or a single wadding layer. In addition, as the wadding layer (s) are bonded through the adhesive layer at low temperature to the fabric layer, migration of waddings can be effectively prevented, which enriches the performance of the composite material. Meanwhile, as the thickness of the adhesive layer of this technical solution is about 0.5mm or less, 0.2mm or less, or even 0.1mm or less, and / or the weight per square meter of the adhesive layer is 2 to 15 grams, or 2 to 10 grams, or even 3 to 6 grams, the use amount of adhesives are reduced, and thereby problems such as high hardness and poor touch feeling, which exists in a composite material having a thick adhesive layer, can be avoided, and thus can be widely used.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0032] There are currently still some problems on combining a wadding layer (s) with others while ensuring an excellent property of the wadding layer itself.
[0033] The present technical solution therefore proposes a composite material, which comprises at least one fabric layer, at least one wadding layer, and an adhesive layer (s) placed between the fabric layer and the wadding layer.
[0034] The adhesive layer has a thickness of about 0.5mm or less and / or a weight per square meter of 2 to 15 grams, or 2 to 10 grams. When the adhesive is melted at a certain temperature, for example below 100 ℃, the melted adhesive can be transferred to a surface of the wadding layer or of the fabric layer, preferably the fabric layer. After the curing of the adhesive, the fabric layer can be bonded to the wadding layer (s) , avoiding high temperature pressing, which is often required when using a conventional thermoplastic hot melt adhesive, and accordingly reducing or avoiding damage to the wadding layer (s) and / or the fabric layer. Preferably the adhesive layer can be formed on the fabric layer and then to bond the wadding layer. The resulting composite material can thereby retain the initial elasticity, resiliency, and warmth retention property of the wadding layer, and carry all properties of both the fabric layer and the wadding layer (s) . By way of such, the resulting composite material can possess all properties of the fabric layer and the wadding layer, thereby enriching a functionality and possibility of the composite material. Meanwhile, as the thickness of the adhesive layer is kept about 0.5mm or less, or about 0.2 mm or less, compared to a composite structure that uses a thermoplastic hot melt adhesive, whose thickness of the adhesive layer is usually greater than 0.5mm in order for an appropriate bonding strength, an amount of adhesive is less used, and the composite material can avoid such issues as being too hard and having poor hand feeling as well as deteriorated performance due to thick adhesive layer, and accordingly has a wide range of applications.
[0035] In order to make the above purposes, features, and advantages of this disclosure more understandable, specific embodiments of this disclosure will be explained in detail below in conjunction with accompanying drawings.
[0036] FIG. 1 is a structural schematic diagram of a composite material in a first embodiment of this disclosure; FIG. 2 is a structural schematic diagram of a composite material in a second embodiment of this disclosure; FIG. 3 is a structural schematic diagram of a composite material in a third embodiment of this disclosure; FIG. 4 is a structural schematic diagram of a composite material in a fourth embodiment of this disclosure; FIG. 5 is a structural schematic diagram of a composite material in a fifth embodiment of this disclosure.
[0037] First Embodiment
[0038] Referring to FIG. 1, this embodiment illustrates a composite material 100 of wadding layers, including a first wadding layer 101, a second wadding layer 102, and an adhesive layer 103 between the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102.
[0039] In yet other embodiments, the composite material 100 can comprise one or more fabric layers, and one or more adhesive layers placed between the one or more fabric layers and the first and / or the second wadding layers.
[0040] In this embodiment, thicknesses of the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102 are independently from 1 to 30 mm, and weights per square meters of the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102 are independently from 10 to 300 g.
[0041] In this embodiment, the thickness and the weight per square meter of the first wadding layer 101 are different from the thickness and the weight per square meter of the second wadding layer 102.
[0042] In yet other embodiments, the thickness and the weight per square meter of the first wadding layer 101 can be the same as the thickness and the weight per square meter of the second wadding layer 102.
[0043] In this embodiment, a moisture reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition was melted in a sealed barrel and applied at 96 ℃ to surfaces between the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102. After cooling and moisture reactive cross-linking, the adhesive layer 103 was cured and formed so as to bind the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102, which avoided a high temperature pressing on the first and the second wadding layers, and thereby reduced damage to the wadding layers, and the initial elasticity, resilience, and warmth retention properties of the wadding layers were therefore well maintained. The resulting composite material possessed all initial performance of the wadding layers, thereby enriched the functionality of the composite material. At the same time, the thickness of the adhesive layer was controlled to be about 0.5 mm or less, which reduced the use of adhesives and avoided the problem of the composite material being too hard and having a poor hand feel due to a thick adhesive layer.
[0044] In this and other embodiments, the moisture reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive can typically include isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer. Isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer can be typically obtained by reaction of polyol (s) and polyisocyanate. Suitable moisture reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive of the present disclosure can have a viscosity at 100 ℃ of less than 20000 cPs, less than 18000 cPs, for example from 12000 to 18000 cPs, or from 14000 to 16000 cPs, and preferably a viscosity at 120 ℃ of less than 10000 cPs, or less than 8000 cPs, for example from 4000 to 8000 cPs, or from 5000 to 7000 cPs. With such ranges of viscosity, the adhesives can be easily applied without causing issues to the equipment shutdown and a good adhesive strength can be obtained after application to the fabric layer and / or the wadding layer at a temperature of lower than 100 ℃ in a relatively small amount and low thickness. In the first embodiment the adhesive had the viscosity at 100 ℃ of about 16000 cPs and the viscosity at 120 of about 6000 ℃.
[0045] In this embodiment, the curing of the adhesive layer 103 and the binding of the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102 were all conducted at a low temperature of less than 100 ℃, which on one hand reduced energy consumption for laminating the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102, and on the other hand reduced or avoided damage to the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102, and thereby maintained the initial properties of the first wadding layer 101 and the second wadding layer 102 and improved performances on anti-pilling and anti-migration of wadding.
[0046] In this embodiment, when the first and the second wadding layers are further combined with a fabric layer, the performance of the multi-layer composite material formed therefrom can be enriched and expected to be higher than that of either a single fabric layer or a single wadding layer.
[0047] In this embodiment, the lamination of wadding layers was conducted in a lamination machine with engraved rollers having such specifications, including the mesh and the diameter and the depth of holes that can reach an adhesive application amount of 5 to 8 g / m2. The engraved rollers were heated with a thermal oil, and temperature of the rollers were adjusted by a heating device according to the characteristics of the moisture reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesives as used. A tension of 30 to 50 N was steadily applied onto the fabric. After application of adhesives onto the fabric, a wadding layer was laminated on the fabric. During the lamination, a gap between the laminating rollers was calibrated with an A4 paper, followed with an additional laminating roller to compress. The lamination run in a speed of 5 to 20 m / min, and a winding tension of 0.5 to 2.5 kg was applied to the fabric while a force of 0.5 to 2.0 kg was applied onto the winding roller. The wound products resulted therefrom were then placed in an environment under a constant temperature and humidity to allow curing of adhesives for 12 to 48 hours to obtain the final products. Such environment can include a temperature of 20 to 30 ℃ and a humidity of not less than 40%. In this and other embodiments, the resulting adhesive layer 103 had a thickness of about 0.1 mm and a peel strength of 8 to 15 N / 5cm width.
[0048] In this embodiment, the adhesive was distributed in a dotted pattern with a distribution density ranging from 100 to 400 dots per square centimeter and had a weight per square meter ranging from 2 to 10 grams, which can provide a good bonding performance and a soft hand feel of the resulting composite material.
[0049] In this specific embodiment, the adhesive layer had the distribution density of 180 to about 280 dots per square centimeter, the weight per square meter of about 5.0 grams, and the thickness of 0.05 to 0.2 mm.
[0050] In yet other embodiments, the adhesive layer can have a thickness of about 0.5mm or less, or a distribution density of the adhesive layer of 100 to 400 dots per square centimeter when an adhesive layer is distributed in a dotted pattern, or a weight per square meter of 3 to 8 grams, or a thickness of about 0.5mm or less and a distribution density of 100 to 400 dots per square centimeter when the adhesive layer is distributed in a dotted pattern, or a thickness of about 0.5mm or less and a weight per square meter of 3 to 8 grams, or a weight per square meter of 3 to 8 grams and a distribution density of 100 to 400 dots per square centimeter when an adhesive layer is distributed in a dotted pattern, or all of the above properties. In this embodiment, an adhesive layer was distributed in a dotted pattern.
[0051] In other embodiments, an adhesive layer may also be in a form of a film, such as a thin film or the like.
[0052] Second Embodiment
[0053] Referring to FIG. 2, this embodiment provided a composite material of a fabric layer 201 and a wadding layer 202.
[0054] In this embodiment, an adhesive layer 203 was placed between the fabric layer 201 and the wadding layer 202.
[0055] In this embodiment, the fabric layer 201 was an elastic plain weave fabric. It was made from a plain weave grey fabric with yarns having a fineness of 10 to 30 deniers by processing steps of filament desizing, dyeing, and finishing with control of its width and elongation. The elastic plain weave fabric had an elongation of 30 %× 30 %.
[0056] In this embodiment, a wadding layer having a thickness of 7.6 to 16.5 mm and a weight per square meter of 40 to 120 g was used. The wadding layer 202 was made from mainly polyester fibers, some of which were from recycled polyesters as certified by Global Recycled Standard ( “GRS” ) .
[0057] In this embodiment, lamination of the elastic plain weave fabric and the wadding layer was carried out in a lamination machine with the use of a moisture reactive polyurethane adhesive having a high adhesion and a high peel strength, and the adhesive was cured for 24 hours under given humidity and temperature conditions.
[0058] In this embodiment, the composite material on one hand realized an adhesion between the plain weave fabric layer and the wadding layer 202 by the adhesive layer 203, and on the other hand remained the initial elasticity, resiliency, and warmth retention property of the wadding layer 202, resulting better performance of the composite material than that of either the single plain weave fabric layer or the single wadding layer 202. The function-enriching composite material can have a relatively wide range of applications.
[0059] In this embodiment, a thickness of an adhesive layer 203 was about 0.5mm or less, or even about 0.1mm or less. That not only reduced the use of adhesives, but also avoided such problems of a composite material as being too hard and having a poor hand feel due to the presence of thick adhesive layer.
[0060] In this embodiment, an adhesive layer was distributed in a dotted pattern with a distribution density of 100 to 400 dots per square centimeter and had a weight per square meter of 3 to 8 grams.
[0061] In this and other embodiments, the fabric layer 201 can be a printed or non-printed fabric.
[0062] Third Embodiment
[0063] Referring to FIG. 3, the third embodiment differed from the second embodiment in that the fabric layer 301 was a knitted fabric.
[0064] In this embodiment, the fabric layer 301 was a light elastic knitted fabric. It was made from a knitted grey fabric with a yarn fineness of 20 to 40 deniers by processing steps of desizing, loosing, dyeing, dehydrating, slitting, and finishing. The knitted fabric had an elongation of 40%× 50%.
[0065] In this embodiment, a wadding layer having a thickness of 7.6 to 16.5 mm and a weight per square meter of 40 to 120 g was used. The wadding layer 102 was made from mainly polyester fibers, some of which were from recycled polyesters as certified by GRS.
[0066] In this embodiment, lamination of the light elastic knitted fabric and the wadding layer was carried out in a lamination machine with the use of a moisture reactive polyurethane adhesive having a high adhesion and a high peel strength, and the adhesive was cured for 24 hours under given humidity and temperature conditions.
[0067] In this embodiment, the composite material on one hand realized an adhesion between the knitted fabric layer 301 and the wadding layer 302 by the adhesive layer 303, and on the other hand remained the initial elasticity, resiliency, and warmth retention property of the wadding layer 302, resulting better performance of the composite material than that of either the single knitted fabric layer 301 or the single wadding layer 302. The composite material enriched with functionality can have a relatively wide range of applications.
[0068] Fourth Embodiment
[0069] In the second and the third embodiments, the fabric layer can be directly used as an outermost fabric that directly faces the environment.
[0070] In yet other embodiments, a fabric layer can be a lining provided with a plurality of adhesive dots, as illustrated in this embodiment, in which the fabric layer, namely the lining, is not used as an outermost fabric.
[0071] Referring to FIG. 4, in the fourth embodiment, the fabric layer 401 was a knitted lining having a first side 401a and an opposite second side 401b. An adhesive layer 403 was placed between the first side 401a and a wadding layer 402, and a plurality of adhesive dots 404 were provided on the second side 401b.
[0072] In this embodiment, lamination of the fabric layer and the wadding layer was carried out in a lamination machine with the use of a moisture reactive polyurethane adhesive having a high adhesion and a high peel strength, and the adhesive was cured for 24 hours under given humidity and temperature conditions.
[0073] In this embodiment, the composite material on one hand realized an adhesion between the fabric layer 401 and the wadding layer 402 by the adhesive layer 403, and on the other hand remained the initial elasticity, resiliency, and warmth retention property of the wadding layer 402, resulting better performance of the composite material than that of either the single fabric layer 401 or the single wadding layer 402. The composite material enriched with functionality can have a relatively wide range of applications.
[0074] Fifth Embodiment
[0075] The fifth embodiment was the same as the fourth embodiment except that a second fabric layer 502 was further comprised in the fifth embodiment.
[0076] Referring to FIG. 5, the composite material in this embodiment comprised a first fabric layer 501 and a second fabric layer 502. The first fabric layer 501 and the second fabric layer 502 are linings provided with a plurality of adhesive dots 505.
[0077] In some other embodiments, the second fabric layer 502 can contains no adhesive dot 505.
[0078] In this embodiment, an adhesive layer 503 was placed between a first fabric layer 501 and a wadding layer 506, and an adhesive layer 504 was placed between a second fabric layer 502 and the wadding layer 506. The first fabric layer 501 and the second fabric layer 502 are laminated on the two sides of the wadding layer 506, respectively.
[0079] In this embodiment, the adhesive layer 503 was the same as the adhesive layer 504. In yet other embodiments, the adhesive layer 503 can differ from the adhesive layer 504.
[0080] In other embodiments, the second fabric layer 502 can be a plain weave fabric or a knitted fabric, same or different from the first fabric layer 501. The composite material in this embodiment was further processed from that in the fourth embodiment so as to obtain a composite material that the both sides of the wadding layer 506 were laminated with fabric layers 501 and 502.
[0081] In this embodiment, the first fabric layer 501 and the second fabric layer 502 were both linings. Yet in the process of double-sided composite, the first fabric layer can be the same as or different from the second fabric layer.
[0082] In this embodiment, the first fabric layer 501 is the same as the second fabric layer 502.
[0083] In yet other embodiments, the first fabric layer and the second fabric layer can be different, for example, the first fabric layer can be a lining while the second fabric layer is a plain weave fabric or knitted fabric; or the first fabric layer can be a plain weave fabric while the second fabric layer can be a lining or a knitted fabric etc.
[0084] In this embodiment, a first fabric layer 501 and a second fabric layer 502 each is a single layer.
