[0024] FIG. 13 is a block diagram of an electronic device within a network environment according to various embodiments.

[0025] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of an environment including an electronic device, a first external electronic device, and a second external electronic device.

[0026] Referring to FIG. 1, the environment (100) may include an electronic device (101), a first external electronic device (111), and a second external electronic device (112).

[0027] An electronic device (101) within an environment (100) may provide an audio service in conjunction with a first external electronic device (111). As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may be a sink device, and the first external electronic device (111) may be a source device. As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may be a source device.

[0028] For example, the electronic device (101) may be configured to output audio. For example, the electronic device (101) may output audio based on data received from a first external electronic device (111) through a communication link (131) between the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (111). For example, the communication link (131) may include an asynchronous connectionless link (ACL), which is a control data link. As a non-limiting example, the communication link (131) may be used for a connected isochronous stream (CIS).

[0029] For example, the electronic device (101) may be configured to acquire audio. For example, the electronic device (101) may acquire audio based on a request received from a first external electronic device (111) via a communication link (131). For example, the electronic device (101) may transmit information about the acquired audio to the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131) based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131).

[0030] The electronic device (101) can provide an audio service based on data broadcast from a second external electronic device (112). As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) can be a sink device, and the second external electronic device (112) can be a source device.

[0031] For example, the electronic device (101) may output audio based on data for a broadcast isochronous stream (BIS) from a second external electronic device (112). For example, the audio may be broadcast via a broadcast isochronous group (BIG). For example, the BIG may include multiple instances for the BIS. For example, an event of the BIG may include one or more BIS events. For example, each of the one or more BIS events may include one or more sub-events. For example, the audio may be output based on synchronization with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112), as indicated by arrow (161). For example, synchronization with the BIS may indicate receiving the data for the BIS. For example, synchronization with the BIS may be performed based on synchronization with a periodic advertisement (142) of a second external electronic device (112).

[0032] A first external electronic device (111) within the environment (100) may be used to assist the electronic device (101) in synchronizing with the BIS. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may include at least a portion of the electronic device (1301) of FIG. 13 or may correspond to at least a portion of the electronic device (1301) of FIG. 13.

[0033] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111), unlike the electronic device (101), may include a display. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may display a user interface on the display for checking, identifying, or determining whether to output audio from the electronic device (101) based on data broadcast from the second external electronic device (112) (e.g., the data for the BIS). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may be used to receive a user input for the user interface. For example, the user input may be used to indicate that the audio is to be output. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may assist the electronic device (101) in synchronizing with the BIS through operations related to receiving the user input.

[0034] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may include a battery having a capacity greater than the capacity of a rechargeable battery within the electronic device (101). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may perform a scan for one or more advertisements (141) executed by a second external electronic device (112) instead of the electronic device (101) to reduce power consumption from the rechargeable battery within the electronic device (101). For example, the one or more advertisements (141) may represent periodic advertisements (142) executed by the second external electronic device (112), as indicated by arrows (151). For example, at least one packet advertised from the second external electronic device (112) according to one or more advertisements (141) may include information about a periodic advertisement (142). For example, the periodic advertisement (142) may indicate resources for broadcasting (143) the data for the BIS, as indicated by arrows (152). For example, at least one packet advertised from the second external electronic device (112) according to the periodic advertisement (142) may include information about broadcasting (143) the data for the BIS (e.g., information about resources for broadcasting (143) the data for the BIS). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may assist the electronic device (101) in synchronizing with the BIS, as indicated by arrow (161), through operations related to the scan. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit information indicating the result of the scan (e.g., information about periodic advertisement (142)) to the electronic device (101).For example, the information may be transmitted to the electronic device (101) via a communication link (131). However, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the information may be transmitted to the electronic device (101) from a first external electronic device (111) via a device (e.g., a cradle) for storing the electronic device (101) and charging the rechargeable battery of the electronic device (101).

[0035] A second external electronic device (112) within the environment (100) can broadcast the data for the BIS. Although not illustrated in FIG. 1, the second external electronic device (112) can execute one or more advertisements (141) to provide information for accessing the data for the BIS. For example, one or more advertisements (141) can provide information for accessing periodic advertisements (142). For example, the second external electronic device (112) can execute periodic advertisements (142) to provide information for accessing the data for the BIS. For example, the periodic advertisements (142) can provide information for accessing the data for the BIS broadcasted from the second external electronic device (112). For example, the electronic device (101) can synchronize with the BIS by accessing the data for the BIS (or receiving the data for the BIS).

[0036] As a non-limiting example, the environment (100) may further include another electronic device (102). For example, the other electronic device (102) may be a device paired with the electronic device (101). As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may be worn on the user's right ear and the other electronic device (102) may be worn on the user's left ear. As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) paired with the other electronic device (102) may indicate that the electronic device (101) and the other electronic device (102) are configured as a set to provide an audio service. As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) paired with the other electronic device (102) may indicate that the electronic device (101) and the other electronic device (102) are connected via a communication link (132). As a non-limiting example, an electronic device (101) paired with another electronic device (102) may indicate that the electronic device (101) and the other electronic device (102) are used for stereophonic sound. For example, audio output through a speaker of the electronic device (101) may correspond to audio output through a speaker of the other electronic device (102). For example, audio acquired through a microphone of the electronic device (101) may correspond to audio acquired through a microphone of the other electronic device (102).

[0037] For example, another electronic device (102) may provide audio services in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111) and the electronic device (101). As a non-limiting example, the other electronic device (102) may be a sink device. As a non-limiting example, the other electronic device (102) may be a source device.

[0038] For example, the other electronic device (102) may be configured to output audio. For example, the other electronic device (102) may output audio based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) through a communication link (133) between the other electronic device (102) and the first external electronic device (111). For example, the communication link (133) may include an ACL, which is a control data link. As a non-limiting example, the communication link (133) may be used for CIS. For example, the other electronic device (102) may output audio based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) through the electronic device (101) (e.g., data received through the communication link (131) and the communication link (132).

[0039] For example, the other electronic device (102) may be configured to acquire audio. For example, the other electronic device (102) may acquire audio based on a request received from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (133). For example, the other electronic device (102) may acquire audio based on a request received from the first external electronic device (111) via the electronic device (101) (e.g., a request received via the communication link (131) and the communication link (132). For example, the other electronic device (102) may transmit information about the acquired audio to the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (133) based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (133). For example, another electronic device (102) may transmit information about the acquired audio to the first external electronic device (111) through the electronic device (101), based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) through the electronic device (101) (e.g., data received through the communication link (131) and the communication link (132). For example, the information may be transmitted to the first external electronic device (111) through the communication link (131) and the communication link (132).

[0040] For example, another electronic device (102) may provide an audio service based on data broadcast from a second external electronic device (112). As a non-limiting example, the other electronic device (102) may be a sink device.

[0041] For example, the other electronic device (102) may output audio based on the data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112). For example, the other electronic device (102) may output audio via one or more second BIS events within the event of the BIG while the electronic device (101) outputs audio via one or more first BIS events within the event of the BIG. For example, the audio output from the other electronic device (102) may be output based on synchronization with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112), as indicated by arrow (162). For example, synchronization with the BIS may indicate receiving the data for the BIS. For example, synchronization with the BIS may be performed based on synchronization with a periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112).

[0042] As a non-limiting example, another electronic device (102) may be configured to perform at least some of the operations of the electronic device (101) as exemplified below.

[0043] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may provide a first audio service based on signaling from a second external electronic device (112) and may provide a second audio service based on signaling with the first external electronic device (111). As a non-limiting example, simultaneous provision of the first audio service and the second audio service may be limited or disabled within the electronic device (101). For example, if both the first audio service and the second audio service include outputting audio, outputting audio for the first audio service within the electronic device (101) may not be performed simultaneously with outputting audio for the second audio service within the electronic device (101).

[0044] For example, the priority of the first audio service may be lower than the priority of the second audio service. As a non-limiting example, the priority of the first audio service and the priority of the second audio service may be set by the first external electronic device (111). As a non-limiting example, the priority of the first audio service and the priority of the second audio service may also be set by the electronic device (101).

[0045] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may detect (or identify) (or recognize) (or check) (or determine) that, while providing the first audio service, it starts providing a second audio service having a higher priority than the priority of the first audio service. For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the detection, perform a handover (or switch) (or change) of an audio service provided using the electronic device (101). For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the detection, perform a first handover from the first audio service to the second audio service. For example, the first audio service may be stopped upon the start of the second audio service (or upon the completion of the first handover).

[0046] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may detect that the provision of the second audio service has been discontinued (or terminated). For example, based on the detection, the electronic device (101) may perform a handover of the audio service provided using the electronic device (101) to resume the first audio service. For example, based on the detection, the electronic device (101) may perform a second handover from the second audio service to the first audio service. For example, the first audio service may be resumed upon termination of the second audio service (or upon completion of the second handover). For example, the second audio service may be terminated at a first timing, and the first audio service may be resumed from a second timing after the first timing.

[0047] For example, as the length of the time interval from the first timing to the second timing increases, the discomfort felt by the user of the electronic device (101) may increase. For example, the length of the time interval may be a parameter representing the performance of the electronic device (101) as perceived by the user. For example, reducing the length of the time interval may enhance the quality of an audio service provided using the electronic device (101).

[0048] The electronic device (101), as exemplified by the descriptions below, can maintain synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112) while the second audio service is provided in order to reduce the length of the time interval. For example, since operations related to re-executing synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) to resume the first audio service are skipped by maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142), the electronic device (101) can reduce the length of the time interval. Meanwhile, the first external electronic device (111), as exemplified by the descriptions below, can perform operations to assist in reducing the length of the time interval.

[0049] For example, the electronic device (101) may include components used to reduce the length of the time interval. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may include components used to reduce the length of the time interval. The components of the first external electronic device (111) are exemplified in FIG. 2, and the components of the electronic device (101) are exemplified in FIG. 3.

[0050] Figure 2 is a simplified block diagram of an exemplary first external electronic device.

[0051] Referring to FIG. 2, the first external electronic device (111) may include at least one processor (201) and a communication circuit (202).

[0052] At least one processor (201) may include at least a portion of the processor (1320) of FIG. 13 or correspond to at least a portion of the processor (1320) of FIG. 13. The at least one processor (201) may be configured to control the communication circuit (202). The at least one processor (201) may be configured to execute instructions stored in a memory (not shown in FIG. 2) to cause the first external electronic device (111) to perform at least a portion of the operations exemplified in the description of FIG. 1. The at least one processor (201) may be configured to execute instructions stored in the memory to cause the first external electronic device (111) to perform at least a portion of the operations exemplified in the description of FIGS. 3 to 12. For example, the memory may include a non-volatile memory. For example, the memory may include at least a portion of the memory (1330) of FIG. 13 (e.g., non-volatile memory (1334)) or correspond to at least a portion of the memory (1330) of FIG. 13.

[0053] The communication circuit (202) may support legacy Bluetooth and / or BLE (Bluetooth low energy). For example, the communication circuit (202) may be used for communication with the electronic device (101). For example, the communication circuit (202) may be used for communication with a second external electronic device (112). For example, the communication circuit (202) may be used for communication with another electronic device (102). For example, the communication circuit (202) may be used for the first audio service. For example, the communication circuit (202) may be used for the second audio service.

[0054] The first external electronic device (111) exemplified in the description of FIG. 2 can execute at least some of the operations exemplified in the descriptions of FIGS. 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12. The operations of the first external electronic device (111) exemplified in the descriptions of FIGS. 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12 can be executed, caused, or controlled by at least one processor (201).

[0055] Figure 3 is a simplified block diagram of an exemplary electronic device.

[0056] Referring to FIG. 3, the electronic device (101) may include at least a portion of the electronic device (1302) of FIG. 13, or may correspond to at least a portion of the electronic device (1302) of FIG. 13. The electronic device (101) may include at least one processor (301), a communication circuit (302), and a speaker (303). The electronic device (101) may further include a microphone (304).

[0057] At least one processor (301) may be configured to control a communication circuit (302), a speaker (303), and a microphone (304). The at least one processor (301) may be configured to execute instructions stored in a memory (not shown in FIG. 3) to cause the electronic device (101) to perform at least some of the operations illustrated in the description of FIG. 1. The at least one processor (301) may be configured to individually or collectively execute instructions stored in the memory to cause the electronic device (101) to perform at least some of the operations illustrated in the description of FIGS. 3 to 12. For example, the instructions, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, may cause the electronic device (101) to perform at least some of the operations illustrated in the description of FIGS. 3 to 12. For example, the memory may include a non-volatile memory.

[0058] The communication circuit (302) may support legacy Bluetooth and / or Bluetooth low energy (BLE). For example, the communication circuit (302) may be used for communication with a first external electronic device (111). For example, the communication circuit (302) may be used for communication with a second external electronic device (112). For example, the communication circuit (302) may be used for communication with another electronic device (102). For example, the communication circuit (302) may be used for the first audio service. For example, the communication circuit (302) may be used for the second audio service.

[0059] The speaker (303) may be configured to output audio. For example, the speaker (303) may output audio provided from a first external electronic device (111). For example, the speaker (303) may output audio provided from a second external electronic device (112). For example, the speaker (303) may be used for the first audio service. For example, the speaker (303) may be used for the second audio service.

[0060] The microphone (304) may be configured to capture audio generated around the electronic device (101). For example, the microphone (304) may be used to capture audio to be provided to a first external electronic device (111). For example, the microphone (304) may be used to capture audio to be provided to another electronic device (102).

[0061] The electronic device (101) illustrated in the description of FIG. 3 can execute at least some of the operations illustrated in the descriptions of FIGS. 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12. The operations of the electronic device (101) illustrated in the descriptions of FIGS. 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12 can be executed, caused, or controlled by at least one processor (301).

[0062] FIG. 4 illustrates an exemplary method for maintaining periodic advertisement based on a request resulting from a first handover of an audio service.

[0063] Referring to FIG. 4, in operation 401, the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (111) can establish a communication link (131).

[0064] As a non-limiting example, the communication link (131) may be established based on an input to a user interface displayed on a display of a first external electronic device (111) in response to an advertisement of the electronic device (101). For example, the advertisement of the electronic device (101) may be executed based on an input (e.g., a user input) made to the cradle illustrated in the description of FIG. 1. For example, the advertisement of the electronic device (101) may be executed based on detecting that the electronic device (101) is being gripped by a user.

[0065] As a non-limiting example, the communication link (131) may be established based on an input to a user interface displayed on the display of the first external electronic device (111) in response to an advertisement of the first external electronic device (111) in response to a signal (or packet) transmitted (or broadcast) (or advertised) from the electronic device (101).

[0066] In operation 402, the first external electronic device (111) can transmit information about the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0067] For example, the second external electronic device (112) may execute one or more advertisements (141) (not shown in FIG. 4). For example, the one or more advertisements (141) may indicate advertising at least one first packet (e.g., an ADV_EXT_IND packet) on each of the primary advertising channels (e.g., Ch. 37, Ch. 38, and Ch. 39). For example, the at least one first packet may indicate providing additional data via another (or additional) advertisement (e.g., an extended advertisement). For example, the at least one first packet may indicate at least one second packet (e.g., an AUX_ADV_IND packet) (or an extended advertisement packet). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may receive, based on the at least one first packet received from the second external electronic device (112), at least one second packet from the second external electronic device (112) that is advertised on some of the secondary advertising channels that are different from the primary advertising channels and that represents a periodic advertisement (142) (e.g., operation 403). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may obtain, based on the at least one second packet, information about the periodic advertisement (142) (e.g., LL(logical link)_PERIODIC_SYNC_IND) and transmit the information about the periodic advertisement (142) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0068] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may, in response to an input to a user interface displayed on the display of the first external electronic device (111) upon receipt of the at least one first packet, obtain the information about the periodic advertisement (142) based on the at least one second packet. For example, the input may be caused to output audio through the electronic device (101) based on data for a BIS (e.g., operation 404) from the second external electronic device (112).

[0069] For example, the information about the periodic advertisement (142) may indicate an interval of the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112), a hopping sequence of the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112), and / or an access address for synchronizing with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112).

[0070] The electronic device (101) can receive the above information about periodic advertisement (142) from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131).

[0071] In operation 403, the second external electronic device (112) may execute periodic advertisement (142). For example, the second external electronic device (112) may execute periodic advertisement (142) by advertising at least one packet. For example, the at least one packet may include information about an interval of a periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112), information about an offset of a transmission according to the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112), information about a channel map of the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112), information about an ACL, information about an initial value of a cyclic redundancy check (CRC), information about a counter (e.g., PeriodicEventCounter) of an event of the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112), and information about a broadcast isochronous group (BIG) (e.g., including multiple instances for a BIS from the second external electronic device (112)) scheduled (or generated) (or acquired) by the second external electronic device (112) (or an advertisement may include advertising data). For example, periodic advertisement (142) may be used for synchronization from a second external electronic device (112) to the BIS, as indicated by arrow (152).

[0072] In operation 404, the second external electronic device (112) may execute broadcasting (143) data for the BIS indicated by the periodic advertisement (142). For example, indicating that the periodic advertisement (142) broadcasts (143) the data for the BIS may mean (or indicate) that at least one packet advertised according to the periodic advertisement (142) includes information about broadcasting (143) the data for the BIS. For example, the data for the BIS may be used to output audio.

[0073] At operation 405, the electronic device (101) may synchronize to the periodic advertisement (142) based on the information about the periodic advertisement (142) received at operation 402. For example, the synchronization to the periodic advertisement (142) may include receiving at least one packet advertised from the second external electronic device (112) according to the periodic advertisement (142) (e.g., the at least one packet as exemplified within the description of operation 403). For example, the synchronization to the periodic advertisement (142) may include recognizing or identifying resources for broadcasting data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) (e.g., the data for the BIS as exemplified within the description of operation 404).

[0074] In operation 406, the electronic device (101) may synchronize with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112), as indicated by arrow (161), in accordance with the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) executed in operation 405. For example, the synchronization with the BIS may include receiving data for the BIS broadcast from the second external electronic device (112), such as the data for the BIS exemplified in the description of operation 404.

[0075] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may inform (or expose) the completion (or success) of the synchronization with the BIS to the first external electronic device (111). For example, since the first external electronic device (111) is a device including a display and may be used to control the electronic device (101), the electronic device (101) may inform the first external electronic device (111) of the completion (or success) of the synchronization of the electronic device (101) with the BIS. For example, since the first external electronic device (111) may be used to control the electronic device (101), the electronic device (101) may inform that the first audio service, as exemplified in operation 407, is provided and / or that the first audio service, as exemplified in operation 407, will be provided. This operation of the electronic device (101) is exemplified in the description of FIG. 5.

[0076] FIG. 5 illustrates an exemplary method executed within an electronic device in synchronization with a broadcast isochronous stream (BIS).

[0077] Referring to FIG. 5, in operation 501, the electronic device (101) may synchronize with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) based on the synchronization (e.g., operation 405) with the periodic advertisement (142). Operation 501 may correspond to operation 406 of FIG. 4.

[0078] In operation 503, the electronic device (101) may, in response to the synchronization with the BIS, transmit information to the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131) indicating that the electronic device (101) is synchronized with the BIS. For example, the information indicating the completion (or success) of the synchronization with the BIS may be transmitted or provided to the first external electronic device (111) via a broadcast receive state of a broadcast audio scan service (BASS). For example, the information indicating the completion (or success) of the synchronization with the BIS may be included in a BIS_Sync field. For example, the information indicating the completion (or success) of the synchronization with the BIS may be included in a metadata field. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may recognize that the first audio service to be exemplified in operation 407 is provided by the electronic device (101) and / or that the first audio service to be exemplified in operation 407 will be provided by the electronic device (101) based on receipt of the information indicating completion (or success) of the synchronization with the BIS.

[0079] Referring back to FIG. 4, at operation 407, the electronic device (101) may provide a first audio service (e.g., the first audio service exemplified in the description of FIG. 1) that outputs audio through the speaker (303) based on the synchronization with the BIS at operation 406. For example, since the first audio service is provided by broadcasting from the second external electronic device (112) without utilizing a connection between the electronic device (101) and the second external electronic device (112), the first audio service may also be referred to as a broadcast service.

[0080] In operation 408, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a request to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131) to maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while the first audio service is being provided. For example, the request may be configured to cause the electronic device (101) to stop the synchronization with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) and to maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142). For example, the request may be configured to cause the electronic device (101) to maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142), to maintain the synchronization with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112), and to stop rendering the data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112).

[0081] For example, since the first external electronic device (111) is in a state of recognizing that the first audio service is being provided by the electronic device (101) based on the reception of the information indicating the completion (or success) of the synchronization with the BIS, as exemplified in the description of FIG. 5, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit the request. For example, the transmission of the request may be executed based on detecting an event for the start of a second audio service (e.g., the second audio service exemplified in the description of FIG. 1). The transmission of the request, which is executed in response to the event, may be exemplified in the description of FIG. 6.

[0082] FIG. 6 illustrates an exemplary method executed within a first external electronic device upon detection of an event.

[0083] Referring to FIG. 6, in operation 601, the first external electronic device (111) may receive the information indicating the success of the synchronization with the BIS from the electronic device (101) through the communication link (131). For example, operation 601 may correspond to the counter operation of operation 503 of FIG. 5. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may recognize, based on the information, that the first audio service is provided according to the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) and / or that the first audio service will be provided according to the BIS from the second external electronic device (112).

[0084] In operation 602, the first external electronic device (111) can detect an event for starting the second audio service.

[0085] The above event may be triggered for the first external electronic device (111). As non-limiting examples, the event may include an incoming call, an outgoing call, media playback, voice recording, or video recording. As non-limiting examples, the event may be triggered based on a signal transmitted from another external electronic device to the first external electronic device (111), such as a signal for an incoming call. As non-limiting examples, the event may be triggered based on a user input received for the first external electronic device (111), such as a user input for starting voice recording or a user input for starting video recording.

[0086] In operation 603, the first external electronic device (111) may, in response to the event, transmit the request exemplified in the description of operation 408.

[0087] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may, upon detecting the event, recognize that the priority of the second audio service is higher than the priority of the first audio service, or recognize that the priority of the first external electronic device (111) is higher than the priority of the second external electronic device (112). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may, upon the recognition, recognize, determine, or identify to discontinue the first audio service being provided using the electronic device (101) and to provide the second audio service using the electronic device (101). For example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit the request to the electronic device (101) based on the determination to discontinue the first audio service being provided using the electronic device (101) and to provide the second audio service using the electronic device (101).

[0088] As a non-limiting example, the request may be transmitted before actions for providing the second audio service are executed.

[0089] As a non-limiting example, the request may be sent via a modify source operation of BASS.

[0090] For example, the request may be indicated by the PA_Sync field and the BIS_Sync field for the modification source operation. For example, for the request to maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142), the PA_Sync field may be set to the first value or the second value among a first value (e.g., '0x01' (synchronize to PA - PAST available)), a second value (e.g., '0x02' (synchronize to PA - PAST not available)), and a third value (e.g., '0x00' (do not synchronize to PA)). For example, for the request to stop the synchronization to the BIS, the BIS_Sync field may be set to the fourth value among the fourth value (e.g., '0b0' (Do not synchronize to BIS_index[x]), where x represents the number of the index) and the fifth value (e.g., '0b1' (synchronize to BIS_index[x])) for all BIS subgroup indices. For example, for the request to maintain the synchronization to the BIS, the BIS_Sync field may be set to the fifth value among the fourth value and the fifth value. When the BIS_Sync field is set to the fifth value for the request, the metadata field for the request may indicate to stop rendering the data for the BIS.

[0091] For another example, the request may be indicated via a metadata field for the modification source operation. For example, the metadata field may indicate maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) and discontinuing the synchronization with the BIS. For another example, the metadata field may indicate maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142), maintaining the synchronization with the BIS, and discontinuing the rendering of the data for the BIS.

[0092] As a non-limiting example, the request may be transmitted via a remove source operation and an add source operation of the BASS. For example, the metadata field for the add source operation may indicate to maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) and to stop the synchronization with the BIS, as opposed to the remove source operation, which indicates a request to stop the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) and to stop the synchronization with the BIS. As another example, the metadata field for the add source operation may indicate to maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142), to maintain the synchronization with the BIS, and to stop rendering the data for the BIS, as opposed to the remove source operation, which indicates a request to stop the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) and to stop the synchronization with the BIS.

[0093] Referring again to FIG. 4, according to operation 408, the electronic device (101) may receive the request from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131).

[0094] In operation 409, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) based on the request while providing the second audio service in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111).

[0095] As a non-limiting example, although not illustrated in FIG. 4, the first external electronic device (111) may, after transmitting the request (or together with transmitting the request), execute operations to begin providing the second audio service.

[0096] For example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal (e.g., including call start information) according to a hands-free profile (HFP) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131) to start the second audio service, based on detecting the event exemplified in the description of operation 602. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal (e.g., including call start information) according to a telephone bearer service (TBS) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131) to start the second audio service, based on detecting the event. For example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal (e.g., including media playback start information) according to an advanced audio distribution profile (A2DP) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). For example, the first external electronic device (111) can transmit a signal (e.g., including media playback start information) according to the MCP (media control profile) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0097] Although not illustrated in FIG. 4, as a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may execute operations for providing the second audio service.

[0098] For example, the first external electronic device (111) can connect or establish an audio channel with the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131) and transmit data for the second audio service to the electronic device (101) via the connected audio channel. For example, the first external electronic device (111) can receive data for the second audio service from the electronic device (101) via the audio channel. For example, the second audio service can be provided by outputting audio via the speaker (303) of the electronic device (101) based on data transmitted from the first external electronic device (111) via the audio channel. For example, the second audio service can be provided by transmitting data for audio acquired via the microphone (304) of the electronic device (101) to the first external electronic device (111) via the audio channel.

[0099] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) can provide the second audio service by connecting or establishing a synchronous connection-oriented (SCO) link through the communication link (131) and transmitting or receiving the data for the second audio service through the SCO link. As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) can provide the second audio service by connecting or establishing a extended SCO (eSCO) link through the communication link (131) and transmitting or receiving the data for the second audio service through the eSCO link. As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) can provide the second audio service by connecting or establishing a connected isochronous stream (CIS) link through the communication link (131) and transmitting or receiving the data for the second audio service through the CIS link.

[0100] For example, the electronic device (101) may perform a first handover from the first audio service to the second audio service based on connecting the audio channel exemplified above in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111). For example, the electronic device (101) may provide the second audio service in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111) based on the first handover. For example, the second audio service provided in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111) may include outputting audio through the speaker (303) of the electronic device (101) based on data received from the first external electronic device (111). For example, the second audio service provided in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111) may include transmitting information about audio acquired through the microphone (304) of the electronic device (101) to the first external electronic device (111).

[0101] For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) based on the request while providing the second audio service based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) through the communication link (131). For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) for the first audio service that may be resumed according to a second handover from the second audio service to the first audio service. For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while the second audio service is provided in order to perform the resumption of the first audio service at a faster response speed.

[0102] For example, maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) based on the request while the second audio service is provided may include receiving at least a portion of the packets advertised from the second external electronic device (112) according to the periodic advertisement (142) while the second audio service is provided. As a non-limiting example, maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) based on the request while the second audio service is provided may include receiving all of the packets advertised from the second external electronic device (112) according to the periodic advertisement (142) while the second audio service is provided. As a non-limiting example, maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) based on the request while the second audio service is provided may include receiving a portion of the packets advertised from the second external electronic device (112) according to the periodic advertisement (142) while the second audio service is provided. For example, the electronic device (101) may bypass receiving at least one packet advertised from the second external electronic device (112) via the periodic advertisement (142) of the event of the 2n-1 counter while the second audio service is provided, and receiving at least one packet advertised from the second external electronic device (112) via the periodic advertisement (142) of the event of the 2n counter while the second audio service is provided. n may be any natural number greater than or equal to 1. As a non-limiting example, specifying which packets are to be received by the electronic device (101) according to maintaining periodic advertisement (142) may be set by the electronic device (101) or may be set by the first external electronic device (111).For example, when the packets are specified by the first external electronic device (111), the settings of the first external electronic device (111) may be indicated through a metadata field for the modification source operation. However, the present invention is not limited thereto.

[0103] For example, the electronic device (101) may suspend synchronization with the BIS while the second audio service is provided based on the request indicating that synchronization with the BIS is to be suspended from the second external electronic device (112). For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain synchronization with the BIS while the second audio service is provided based on the request indicating that synchronization with the BIS is to be maintained from the second external electronic device (112). Suspending synchronization with the BIS and maintaining synchronization with the BIS are exemplified in the description of FIG. 7 and the description of FIG. 8.

[0104] Figures 7 and 8 illustrate exemplary methods executed within an electronic device upon receipt of a request.

[0105] Referring to FIG. 7, in operation 701, the electronic device (101) may receive the request from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131). Operation 701 may correspond to operation 408 of FIG. 4.

[0106] In operation 702, the electronic device (101) may stop providing the first audio service by stopping the synchronization from the second external electronic device (112) to the BIS based on the request while the second audio service is being provided. For example, the electronic device (101) may stop, terminate, refrain from, bypass, or skip receiving the data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) based on the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) maintained according to the request, on the condition that providing the second audio service is initiated within the electronic device (101). For example, since the reception of the data for the BIS is stopped according to the request, the first audio service may be stopped.

[0107] Referring to FIG. 8, in operation 801, the electronic device (101) may receive the request from the first external electronic device (111) via the communication link (131). Operation 801 may correspond to operation 408 of FIG. 4.

[0108] In operation 802, the electronic device (101) may stop providing the first audio service by, based on the request, stopping rendering the data for the BIS broadcast from the second external electronic device (112) according to the synchronization with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) while the second audio service is being provided. For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the request, maintain receiving the data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) according to the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) maintained through the request. For example, the electronic device (101) may stop, terminate, refrain from, bypass, or skip rendering the data for the BIS received from the second external electronic device (112) based on the request, on the condition that providing the second audio service is initiated within the electronic device (101). For example, the rendering of the data for the BIS may be interrupted because the first audio service is interrupted according to the request.

[0109] As described above, the electronic device (101) can maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) for the first audio service based on the request received from the first external electronic device (111) while the second audio service is provided. The electronic device (101) can resume providing the first audio service at a faster rate in response to another event for the termination of the second audio service by maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while the second audio service is provided, as exemplified in the description of FIG. 9 below. Resuming the first audio service is exemplified in the description of FIG. 9.

[0110] The descriptions of FIGS. 4 to 8 describe operations executed within the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (111) when the audio service provided using the electronic device (101) changes from the first audio service to the second audio service, but this is merely exemplary. The operations may also be executed to change the first audio service to a third audio service provided based on a broadcast from another external electronic device (hereinafter, a third external electronic device).

[0111] For example, while providing the first audio service, the first external electronic device (111) may receive a user input indicating a request to provide the third audio service using the electronic device (101), as in operation 407. For example, in response to the user input, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a request to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131), as in operation 408. The request may include information about periodic advertisements of the third external electronic device. The request may indicate maintaining the synchronization from the second external electronic device (112) to the BIS, as in the request in operation 408. For example, in response to receiving the request from the first external electronic device (111), the electronic device (101) may perform synchronization of the third external electronic device to the periodic advertisement based on the information about the periodic advertisement of the third external electronic device for the third audio service, and may perform synchronization of the third external electronic device to the BIS based on the synchronization of the third external electronic device to the periodic advertisement. For example, the electronic device (101) may provide the third audio service based on the synchronization of the third external electronic device to the BIS. For example, the electronic device (101) may, in response to receiving the request from the first external electronic device (111), maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while performing at least one operation for the third audio service (e.g., performing synchronization with the periodic advertisement of the third external electronic device, performing synchronization with the BIS from the third external electronic device, and / or providing the third audio service). For example, maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) may be performed for responsiveness of changes from the third audio service to the first audio service.

[0112] As another example, the electronic device (101) may, while providing the first audio service, detect an event (or user input (e.g., a press input on a physical button exposed through a portion of the housing of the electronic device (101)) for the start of the third audio service. For example, in response to the event, the electronic device (101) may attempt to synchronize with the periodic advertisement of the third external electronic device for the third audio service. As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may perform the synchronization with the periodic advertisement of the third external electronic device based on information about the periodic advertisement of the third external electronic device received from the first external electronic device (111). For example, the electronic device (101) may perform the synchronization with the BIS from the third external electronic device based on the synchronization with the periodic advertisement of the third external electronic device. For example, the electronic device (101) may provide the third audio service based on the synchronization from the third external electronic device to the BIS. For example, providing the first audio service may be interrupted in response to providing the third audio service. For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while performing at least one operation for the third audio service (e.g., performing synchronization of the third external electronic device to the periodic advertisement, performing synchronization of the third external electronic device to the BIS, and / or providing the third audio service) in response to the user input. For example, maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) may be performed for responsiveness of a change from the third audio service to the first audio service.

[0113] Figure 9 illustrates an exemplary method for resuming synchronization to the BIS based on another request resulting from a second handover of the audio service.

[0114] Referring to FIG. 9, in operation 901, the electronic device (101) may maintain synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while providing the second audio service in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111). For example, operation 901 may correspond to operation 409 of FIG. 4.

[0115] In operation 903, the second external electronic device (112) may execute a periodic advertisement (142). For example, since the first audio service provided from the second external electronic device (112) may not be a service specific or dedicated to (only) the electronic device (101), the second external electronic device (112) may execute the periodic advertisement (142) regardless of the first audio service being interrupted within the electronic device (101). For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) executed by the second external electronic device (112) in operation 903, as in operation 901, while the second audio service is being provided. For example, operation 903 may correspond to operation 403 of FIG. 4 .

[0116] In operation 904, the second external electronic device (112) may execute broadcasting (143) the data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) associated with the periodic advertisement (142), as indicated by arrow (152). For example, since the first audio service provided from the second external electronic device (112) may not be a service specific or dedicated (only) for the electronic device (101), the second external electronic device (112) may continue to broadcast the data for the BIS regardless of the first audio service being interrupted within the electronic device (101).

[0117] At operation 902, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit another request to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131) to resume the synchronization with the BIS.

[0118] For example, the other request may be transmitted upon detection of another event for termination (or suspension) of the second audio service. The other request transmitted in response to the other event is exemplified in the description of FIG. 10.

[0119] FIG. 10 illustrates an exemplary method executed within a first external electronic device upon detection of another event.

[0120] Referring to FIG. 10, in operation 1001, the first external electronic device (111) may detect another event for stopping the second audio service.

[0121] For example, the first external electronic device (111) may, in response to the other event, transmit information for terminating the second audio service to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal according to HFP (e.g., including call termination information) (not shown in FIG. 10) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal according to TBS (e.g., including call termination information) (not shown in FIG. 10) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal according to A2DP (e.g., including media playback end information) (not shown in FIG. 10 ) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal according to MCP (e.g., including media playback end information) (not shown in FIG. 10 ) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0122] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may disconnect or release an audio channel (e.g., a link of SCO, a link of eSCO, or a link of CIS) for the second audio service after transmitting the information or based on transmitting the information.

[0123] In operation 1002, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit, based on the other event, the other request exemplified in the description of operation 902 of FIG. 9 to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0124] For example, the above other request may be sent via the modify source operation of BASS.

[0125] For example, on the condition that the request transmitted to the electronic device (101) in operation 408 is a request to stop the synchronization with the BIS, the other request may be indicated via the BIS_Sync field for the modification source operation. For example, at least some of the BIS subgroup indices of the BIS_Sync field may be set to the fifth value among the fourth value and the fifth value for the other request to resume the synchronization with the BIS.

[0126] For example, on the condition that the request transmitted to the electronic device (101) in operation 408 is a request to stop the synchronization with the BIS, or a request to maintain the synchronization with the BIS and stop rendering the data for the BIS, the other request may indicate a metadata field for the modification source. For example, the metadata field may indicate to resume the synchronization with the BIS on the condition that the request transmitted to the electronic device (101) in operation 408 is a request to stop the synchronization with the BIS. For example, the metadata field may indicate to resume rendering the data for the BIS on the condition that the request transmitted to the electronic device (101) in operation 408 is a request to maintain the synchronization with the BIS and stop rendering the data for the BIS.

[0127] For example, on the condition that the request transmitted to the electronic device (101) in operation 408 was transmitted through a removal source operation and an additional source operation, the other request may be transmitted through an additional source operation of the BASS. For example, the other request may be indicated through a BIS_Sync field for the additional source operation. For example, at least some of the BIS subgroup indices of the BIS_Sync field may be set to the fifth value among the fourth value and the fifth value for the other request to resume the synchronization with the BIS.

[0128] Referring again to FIG. 9, the electronic device (101) can receive the other request from the first external electronic device (111) via a communication link (131).

[0129] At operation 905, the electronic device (101) may resume the first audio service by resuming the synchronization with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) as indicated by arrow (161) in response to the other request, based on the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) maintained while the second audio service was being provided. For example, the electronic device (101) may resume the first audio service based on the second handover by resuming the synchronization with the BIS in response to the other request. For example, the electronic device (101) may suspend the second audio service and resume the first audio service based at least in part on the other request. For example, the electronic device (101) may suspend the second audio service to resume the first audio service in response to the other request.

[0130] The operations illustrated in the descriptions of FIGS. 4 to 10 may be executed to maintain periodic advertisement (142) under the condition that the first external electronic device (111) is a device capable of transmitting the request (408) and the other request (902). However, this is merely exemplary. For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain periodic advertisement (142) for the first audio service while the second audio service is provided through communication with a device that is not capable of transmitting the request (408) and the other request (902) (e.g., the first external electronic device (111)). The operations of the electronic device (101) for maintaining periodic advertisements (142) for the first audio service while the second audio service is provided without the above request (408) and the other request (902) are exemplified in the description of FIG. 11. The first external electronic device (111) exemplified in the description of FIG. 11 may be a device that does not transmit the request (408) and the other request (902).

[0131] FIG. 11 illustrates an exemplary method for maintaining periodic advertisement based on a signal triggered for a first handover of an audio service.

[0132] Referring to FIG. 11, in operation 1101, the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (111) may establish a communication link (131). For example, operation 1101 may correspond to operation 401 of FIG. 4.

[0133] In operation 1102, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit information about the periodic advertisement (142) of the second external electronic device (112) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). For example, operation 1102 may correspond to operation 402 of FIG. 4.

[0134] In operation 1103, the second external electronic device (112) may execute periodic advertisement (142). For example, operation 1103 may correspond to operation 403 of FIG. 4.

[0135] In operation 1104, the second external electronic device (112) may perform broadcasting (143) of data for the BIS indicated by the periodic advertisement (142). For example, operation 1104 may correspond to operation 404 of FIG. 4.

[0136] In operation 1105, the electronic device (101) may synchronize with the periodic advertisement (142). For example, operation 1105 may correspond to operation 405 of FIG. 4.

[0137] In operation 1106, the electronic device (101) may synchronize with the BIS from the second external electronic device (112), as indicated by arrow (161), according to the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) executed in operation 1105. For example, operation 1106 may correspond to operation 406 of FIG. 4.

[0138] In operation 1107, the electronic device (101) may provide the first audio service that outputs audio through the speaker (303) based on the synchronization with the BIS in operation 1106. Operation 1107 may correspond to operation 407 of FIG. 4.

[0139] In operation 1108, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit a signal for starting the second audio service to the electronic device (101) through the communication link (131) while the first audio service is being provided. For example, the signal may indicate a request for operations for starting the second audio service.

[0140] For example, the signal may be implemented in various ways. As a non-limiting example, the signal may include call start information according to HFP. As a non-limiting example, the signal may include call start information according to TBS. As a non-limiting example, the signal may include media playback start information according to A2DP. As a non-limiting example, the signal may include media playback start information according to MCP.

[0141] For example, the electronic device (101) can receive the signal from the first external electronic device (111) via a communication link (131).

[0142] In operation 1109, the electronic device (101) may, based on the signal, stop providing the first audio service and maintain synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while providing the second audio service in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111).

[0143] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may, in response to the signal, compare the priority of the first audio service with the priority of the second audio service. For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the comparison, recognize, determine, or confirm that the priority of the first audio service provided through the second external electronic device (112) with which a communication link has not been established is lower than the priority of the second audio service provided through the first external electronic device (111) with which a communication link (131) has been established. For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the comparison, recognize, determine, or confirm that the priority of the first audio service provided on a connectionless basis is lower than the priority of the second audio service provided on a connection basis.

[0144] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may, in response to the signal, compare the priority of the first external electronic device (111) with the priority of the second external electronic device (112). For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the comparison, determine, recognize, or confirm that the priority of the first external electronic device (111) with which the communication link (131) has been established is higher than the priority of the second external electronic device (112) with which the communication link has not been established. For example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the comparison, determine, recognize, or confirm that the priority of the first external electronic device (111) that is available or usable for controlling the electronic device (101) is higher than the priority of the second external electronic device (112) that is unavailable for controlling the electronic device (101). For example, the electronic device (101) may determine, recognize, or confirm, based on the comparison, that the priority of the first external electronic device (111) logged in with a user account corresponding to the user account of the electronic device (101) is higher than the priority of the second external electronic device (112) logged in with a user account different from the user account of the electronic device (101).

[0145] As a non-limiting example, the electronic device (101) may, based on the result of the comparison, decide to stop providing the first audio service and provide the second audio service in response to the signal.

[0146] As a non-limiting example, providing the first audio service may be implemented in various ways. For example, the electronic device (101) may stop providing the first audio service by stopping the synchronization with the BIS in response to the signal. For example, the electronic device (101) may stop providing the first audio service by stopping rendering the data for the BIS received from the second external electronic device (112) according to the synchronization with the BIS in response to the signal.

[0147] As a non-limiting example, although not illustrated in FIG. 11, the first external electronic device (111) may execute operations for providing the second audio service.

[0148] For example, the first external electronic device (111) can connect or establish an audio channel with the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131) and transmit data for the second audio service to the electronic device (101) via the connected audio channel.

[0149] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) can provide the second audio service by connecting or establishing a synchronous connection-oriented (SCO) link through the communication link (131) and transmitting or receiving the data for the second audio service through the SCO link.

[0150] For example, the electronic device (101) may perform the first handover from the first audio service to the second audio service based on connecting the audio channel exemplified above in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111).

[0151] For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) based on the signal while providing the second audio service based on data received from the first external electronic device (111) through the communication link (131). For example, the electronic device (101) may maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) even if the first audio service is interrupted, in order to resume the first audio service in a quick response to any subsequent interruption of the second audio service.

[0152] As described above, the electronic device (101) can maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) for the first audio service based on the signal received from the first external electronic device (111) while the second audio service is provided. The electronic device (101) can resume providing the first audio service at a faster rate in response to another event for the termination of the second audio service by maintaining the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while the second audio service is provided, as exemplified in the description of FIG. 12 below. Resuming the first audio service is exemplified in the description of FIG. 12.

[0153] Figure 12 illustrates an exemplary method for resuming synchronization to the BIS based on another signal triggered for a second handover of the audio service.

[0154] Referring to FIG. 12, in operation 1201, the electronic device (101) may maintain synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) while providing the second audio service in conjunction with the first external electronic device (111). For example, operation 1201 may correspond to operation 901 of FIG. 9.

[0155] In operation 1203, the second external electronic device (112) may execute periodic advertisement (142). For example, operation 1203 may correspond to operation 903 of FIG. 9.

[0156] In operation 1204, the second external electronic device (112) may broadcast the data for the BIS from the second external electronic device (112) associated with the periodic advertisement (142), as indicated by arrow (152). For example, operation 1204 may correspond to operation 904 of FIG. 9.

[0157] In operation 1202, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit another signal for termination of the second audio service to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0158] For example, the other signal may be implemented in various ways. As a non-limiting example, the other signal may include call termination information according to HFP. As a non-limiting example, the other signal may include call termination information according to TBS. As a non-limiting example, the other signal may include media playback termination information according to A2DP. As a non-limiting example, the other signal may include media playback termination information according to MCP.

[0159] For example, the other signal may be transmitted in response to detecting another event for terminating the second audio service.

[0160] For example, the first external electronic device (111) may, in response to the other event, transmit information for terminating the second audio service to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit the other signal according to HFP (e.g., including call termination information) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit the other signal according to TBS (e.g., including call termination information) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit the other signal according to A2DP (e.g., including media playback termination information) to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131). As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may transmit another signal (e.g., including media playback end information) according to the MCP to the electronic device (101) via the communication link (131).

[0161] As a non-limiting example, the first external electronic device (111) may disconnect or release an audio channel (e.g., a link of SCO, a link of eSCO, or a link of CIS) for the second audio service after transmitting the other signal or based on transmitting the other signal.

[0162] For example, the electronic device (101) can receive the other signal from the first external electronic device (111) via a communication link (131).

[0163] At operation 1205, the electronic device (101) may resume the first audio service by resuming synchronization with the BIS, as indicated by arrow (161), based on the other signal, in accordance with synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) maintained while the second audio service is provided. For example, the electronic device (101) may resume the first audio service based on the second handover by resuming synchronization with the BIS, based on the other signal. For example, the electronic device (101) may suspend the second audio service and resume the first audio service, based at least in part on the other signal.

[0164] Although Fig. 12 illustrates resuming the synchronization with the BIS to resume the first audio service, this is merely exemplary. For example, the electronic device (101) may resume the first audio service by resuming rendering of the data for the BIS under the condition that the synchronization with the BIS was maintained in operation 1109 and rendering of the data for the BIS was stopped.

[0165] As described above, the electronic device (101) may, in response to the other signal, resume the first audio service based on the synchronization with the periodic advertisement (142) that was maintained based on the signal (e.g., operation 1108). For example, the electronic device (101) may improve the quality of the audio service through this operation.

[0166] The operations of the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (111) exemplified above can be executed by the electronic device (1301) and the electronic device (1302) in the description of FIG. 13 described below.

[0167] FIG. 13 is a block diagram of an electronic device (1301) within a network environment (1300) according to various embodiments. Referring to FIG. 13 , in the network environment (1300), the electronic device (1301) may communicate with the electronic device (1302) via a first network (1398) (e.g., a short-range wireless communication network), or may communicate with at least one of the electronic device (1304) or the server (1308) via a second network (1399) (e.g., a long-range wireless communication network). In one embodiment, the electronic device (1301) may communicate with the electronic device (1304) via the server (1308). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (1301) may include a processor (1320), a memory (1330), an input module (1350), an audio output module (1355), a display module (1360), an audio module (1370), a sensor module (1376), an interface (1377), a connection terminal (1378), a haptic module (1379), a camera module (1380), a power management module (1388), a battery (1389), a communication module (1390), a subscriber identification module (1396), or an antenna module (1397). According to one embodiment, as at least a part of the data processing or operations, the processor (1320) may store commands or data received from other components (e.g., a sensor module (1376) or a communication module (1390)) in a volatile memory (1332), process the commands or data stored in the volatile memory (1332), and store result data in a non-volatile memory (1334). According to one embodiment, the processor (1320) may include a main processor (1321) (e.g., a central processing unit or an application processor) or an auxiliary processor (1323) (e.g., a graphics processing unit, a neural processing unit (NPU), an image signal processor, a sensor hub processor, or a communication processor) that can operate independently or together with the main processor (1321). For example, when the electronic device (1301) includes the main processor (1321) and the auxiliary processor (1323), the auxiliary processor (1323) may be configured to use less power than the main processor (1321) or to be specialized for a given function. The auxiliary processor (1323) may be implemented separately from the main processor (1321) or as a part thereof.

[0169] The auxiliary processor (1323) may control at least a portion of functions or states associated with at least one component (e.g., the display module (1360), the sensor module (1376), or the communication module (1390)) of the electronic device (1301), for example, on behalf of the main processor (1321) while the main processor (1321) is in an inactive (e.g., sleep) state, or together with the main processor (1321) while the main processor (1321) is in an active (e.g., application execution) state. In one embodiment, the auxiliary processor (1323) (e.g., an image signal processor or a communication processor) may be implemented as a part of another functionally related component (e.g., a camera module (1380) or a communication module (1390)). In one embodiment, the auxiliary processor (1323) (e.g., a neural network processing unit) may include a hardware structure specialized for processing artificial intelligence models. The artificial intelligence models may be generated through machine learning. This learning can be performed, for example, on the electronic device (1301) itself where the artificial intelligence model is executed, or can be performed through a separate server (e.g., server (1308)). The learning algorithm can include, for example, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, semi-supervised learning, or reinforcement learning, but is not limited to the examples described above. The artificial intelligence model can include multiple artificial neural network layers. The artificial neural network may be one of a deep neural network (DNN), a convolutional neural network (CNN), a recurrent neural network (RNN), a restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM), a deep belief network (DBN), a bidirectional recurrent deep neural network (BRDNN), a deep Q-network, or a combination of two or more of the above, but is not limited to the examples described above. In addition to, or alternatively to, a hardware structure, an artificial intelligence model may include a software structure.

[0170] The memory (1330) can store various data used by at least one component (e.g., the processor (1320) or the sensor module (1376)) of the electronic device (1301). The data can include, for example, software (e.g., the program (1340)) and input data or output data for commands related thereto. The memory (1330) can include volatile memory (1332) or non-volatile memory (1334).

[0171] The program (1340) may be stored as software in memory (1330) and may include, for example, an operating system (1342), middleware (1344), or an application (1346).

[0172] The input module (1350) can receive commands or data to be used in a component of the electronic device (1301) (e.g., a processor (1320)) from an external source (e.g., a user) of the electronic device (1301). The input module (1350) can include, for example, a microphone, a mouse, a keyboard, a key (e.g., a button), or a digital pen (e.g., a stylus pen).

[0173] The audio output module (1355) can output audio signals to the outside of the electronic device (1301). The audio output module (1355) can include, for example, a speaker or a receiver. The speaker can be used for general purposes, such as multimedia playback or recording playback. The receiver can be used to receive incoming calls. In one embodiment, the receiver can be implemented separately from the speaker or as part of the speaker.

[0174] The display module (1360) can visually provide information to an external party (e.g., a user) of the electronic device (1301). The display module (1360) may include, for example, a display, a holographic device, or a projector and a control circuit for controlling the device. In one embodiment, the display module (1360) may include a touch sensor configured to detect a touch, or a pressure sensor configured to measure the intensity of a force generated by the touch.

[0188] According to one embodiment, commands or data may be transmitted or received between the electronic device (1301) and an external electronic device (1304) via a server (1308) connected to a second network (1399). Each of the external electronic devices (1302 or 1304) may be the same or a different type of device as the electronic device (1301). According to one embodiment, all or part of the operations executed in the electronic device (1301) may be executed in one or more of the external electronic devices (1302, 1304, or 1308). For example, when the electronic device (1301) is to perform a certain function or service automatically or in response to a request from a user or another device, the electronic device (1301) may, instead of or in addition to executing the function or service itself, request one or more external electronic devices to perform the function or at least a part of the service. One or more external electronic devices that receive the request may execute at least a portion of the requested function or service, or an additional function or service related to the request, and transmit the result of the execution to the electronic device (1301). The electronic device (1301) may process the result as is or additionally and provide it as at least a portion of a response to the request. For this purpose, cloud computing, distributed computing, mobile edge computing (MEC), or client-server computing technology may be used, for example. The electronic device (1301) may provide an ultra-low latency service by using distributed computing or mobile edge computing, for example. In another embodiment, the external electronic device (1304) may include an Internet of Things (IoT) device. The server (1308) may be an intelligent server utilizing machine learning and / or a neural network.According to one embodiment, an external electronic device (1304) or server (1308) may be included within the second network (1399). The electronic device (1301) may be applied to intelligent services (e.g., smart homes, smart cities, smart cars, or healthcare) based on 5G communication technology and IoT-related technology.

[0189] As described above, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) may include a memory configured to store instructions, a communication circuit for BLE (Bluetooth low energy) (e.g., communication circuit (302)), a speaker (e.g., speaker (303)), and at least one processor (e.g., at least one processor (301)). The at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to provide a first audio service that outputs audio through the speaker based on synchronization with a broadcast isochronous stream (BIS) from a second external electronic device (e.g., second external electronic device (112)) according to synchronization with periodic advertisements of the second external electronic device indicated by information from the first external electronic device (e.g., first external electronic device (111)). The at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to receive, using the communication circuitry, a request from the first external electronic device through a communication link between the electronic device and the first external electronic device to stop the synchronization with the BIS and maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement while the first audio service is being provided. The at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to stop the synchronization with the BIS and maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisement based on the request while providing a second audio service based on data received from the first external electronic device through the communication link.

[0190] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to maintain synchronization with the periodic advertisement by receiving at least a portion of packets advertised from the second external electronic device according to the periodic advertisement based on the request while providing the second audio service.

[0191] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to receive the request from the first external electronic device via a modify source operation of a broadcast audio scan service (BASS).

[0192] For example, the request may indicate to maintain the synchronization of the periodic advertisement using the PA_sync field of the modification source operation, and to stop the synchronization to the BIS using the BIS_sync field of the modification source operation.

[0193] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to, while providing the second audio service, receive, using the communication circuitry, another request from the first external electronic device to resume the synchronization with the BIS via the communication link, and, in response to the another request, to resume providing the first audio service by resuming the synchronization with the BIS according to the synchronization with the periodic advertisement maintained based on the request.

[0194] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to receive the other request from the first external electronic device via a modify source operation of a broadcast audio scan service (BASS).

[0195] For example, the other request may indicate that the synchronization to the BIS be resumed, using the BIS_sync field of the modification source operation.

[0196] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to stop providing the second audio service and to resume providing the first audio service in response to the other request.

[0197] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to provide the second audio service based on data received from the first external electronic device via the communication link and outputting audio through the speaker.

[0198] For example, the electronic device may include a microphone (e.g., microphone (304)). For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to provide the second audio service based on transmitting data about audio acquired through the microphone to the first external electronic device via the communication link using the communication circuit.

[0199] As described above, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) may include a memory configured to store instructions, a communication circuit for BLE (Bluetooth low energy) (e.g., communication circuit (302)), a speaker (e.g., speaker (303)), and at least one processor (e.g., at least one processor (301)). The at least one processor provides a first audio service for outputting audio through the speaker based on synchronization with a broadcast isochronous stream (BIS) from a second external electronic device (e.g., a second external electronic device (112)) according to synchronization with periodic advertisements of the second external electronic device (e.g., the first external electronic device (111)) indicated by information from the first external electronic device, and while the first audio service is being provided, receives, using the communication circuit, a signal for starting a second audio service from the first external electronic device through a communication link between the electronic device and the first external electronic device, and in response to the signal, causes the electronic device to stop providing the first audio service based on data for a BIS broadcast from the second external electronic device, and to cause the electronic device to stop providing the first audio service and maintain the synchronization with the periodic advertisements while providing the second audio service based on data received from the first external electronic device through the communication link. It can be configured to execute the above instructions.

[0200] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to maintain the synchronization of the periodic advertisement by receiving at least a portion of packets advertised from the second external electronic device according to the periodic advertisement based on the signal while providing the second audio service.

[0201] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to stop providing the first audio service by stopping receiving the data for the BIS in response to the signal.

[0202] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to stop providing the first audio service by, in response to the signal, stopping rendering the data for the BIS received in accordance with the synchronization to the periodic advertisement using the communication circuitry from the second external electronic device.

[0203] For example, the signal may include call initiation information according to hands-free profile (HFP) or telephone bearer service (TBS).

[0204] For example, the signal may include media playback start information according to A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile) or MCP (medio control profile).

[0205] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to, while providing the second audio service, receive another signal for termination of the second audio service from the first external electronic device through the communication link using the communication circuitry, and to resume providing the first audio service by resuming the synchronization with the BIS according to the synchronization with the periodic advertisement maintained based on the signal in response to the another signal.

[0206] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device, in response to the synchronization with the BIS, to transmit information to the first external electronic device via the communication link, using the communication circuitry, indicating that the electronic device is synchronized with the BIS.

[0207] As described above, the electronic device (e.g., the first external electronic device (111)) may include a communication circuit for BLE (Bluetooth low energy) (e.g., the communication circuit (201)) and at least one processor (e.g., at least one processor (201)). The at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101)) to transmit, through the communication link between the electronic device and the other electronic device, first information about a periodic advertisement of an external electronic device (e.g., a second external electronic device (112)), using the communication circuitry, and to receive, through the communication link from the other electronic device, second information indicating a state of the other electronic device synchronized with a broadcast isochronous stream (BIS) from the external electronic device according to the first information, and after the second information is received, to detect an event for the start of an audio service provided through the communication link in conjunction with the other electronic device, and in response to the event, to transmit, through the communication link, a request to the other electronic device to stop synchronization with the BIS and maintain synchronization of the periodic advertisement, using the communication circuitry.

[0208] For example, the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the electronic device to detect another event for interrupting the audio service being provided over the communication link in conjunction with the other electronic device, and, in response to the another event, to transmit, using the communication circuitry, another request to the other electronic device over the communication link to resume synchronization with the BIS.
