Electrode heating device
[0001] The present invention relates to an electrode heating device.
[0002] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0105889, filed on August 11, 2023, and all contents disclosed in the specification and drawings of the said application are incorporated by reference into this application.
[0003]
[0004] Secondary batteries, which boast high electrical properties such as high energy density and high applicability across a wide range of product categories, are widely used not only in portable devices but also in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) powered by electrical power sources. These batteries are attracting attention as a new energy source for environmental friendliness and energy efficiency, not only because they can dramatically reduce fossil fuel use, but also because they produce no byproducts from energy use.
[0005] Currently, widely used types of secondary batteries include lithium-ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, and nickel-zinc batteries. The operating voltage of these unit secondary battery cells, i.e., unit battery cells, is approximately 2.5 V to 4.5 V. Therefore, when a higher output voltage is required, multiple battery cells are connected in series to form a battery pack. Furthermore, depending on the charge / discharge capacity required for the battery pack, a number of battery cells are connected in parallel to form a battery pack. Therefore, the number of battery cells included in the battery pack can be set in various ways depending on the required output voltage and / or charge / discharge capacity.
[0006] Meanwhile, in manufacturing such secondary batteries, a hot-rolling process for the electrodes is necessary. To ensure smooth electrode rolling, the electrodes must be preheated prior to electrode rolling. This process is called a preheating process. Conventionally, preheating was performed using a roll press. However, due to the influence of the roll press, electrode temperature differences occurred depending on the equipment operating speed and electrode type, leading to problems such as electrode wrinkles.
[0007]
[0008] Accordingly, the present invention aims to prevent wrinkles from forming on an electrode during an electrode heating process.

[0015] In one aspect of the present invention, the heating lamp may be placed at a predetermined distance from the electrode.
[0016] In another aspect of the present invention, the heating lamp may be provided in multiple numbers along the direction of travel of the electrode.
[0017] In another aspect of the present invention, the heating lamp may include at least one of an upper heating lamp disposed above the electrode; and a lower heating lamp disposed below the electrode.
[0018] In particular, the heating lamps may be arranged in opposite directions with the electrodes interposed between them.
[0019] In one aspect of the present invention, a heating device characterized in that the control module is configured to be able to adjust the distance between the electrode and the heating lamp.
[0020] Preferably, the heating chamber may further include at least one pneumatic cylinder accommodated therein; and a bracket connected to at least a portion of the pneumatic cylinder and equipped with the heating lamp.
[0021] Here, the control module can control the operation of the pneumatic cylinder.
[0022] At this time, the control module may be configured to be able to adjust the gap between the electrode and the heating lamp in multiple stages.
[0023] Furthermore, the control module may be configured to continuously adjust the gap between the electrode and the heating lamp.
[0024] In one aspect of the present invention, the heating chamber may further include an exhaust device configured to discharge fluid within the heating chamber to the outside of the heating chamber.
[0025] Preferably, the exhaust device may be a ring blower.
[0026] In another aspect of the present invention, a temperature sensor configured to measure the temperature of the electrode may be further included.
[0027] In another aspect of the present invention, the control module may be configured to control the progress speed of the electrode.
[0028] In another aspect of the present invention, the control module may be configured to control the output of the heating lamp.
[0029]
[0030] According to the present invention, it is possible to prevent wrinkles from forming on the electrode during the electrode heating process.
[0031] Additionally, according to the present invention, the electrode can be heated to a constant temperature.
[0032] In addition, according to the present invention, it is possible to reduce the preheating pressure applied to the electrode during the preheating process.
[0033] However, the effects that can be obtained through the present invention are not limited to the effects described above, and other technical effects that are not mentioned can be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description of the invention described below.
[0034]

[0048]
[0049] FIG. 1 is a drawing for explaining an electrode (E) rolling process including a heating device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a plan view of FIG. 1. Meanwhile, FIG. 3 is a drawing for explaining a heating device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 4 is a front view of FIG. 3, and FIG. 5 is a plan view of FIG. 3.
[0050]
[0051] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 5, the heating device (1) may include a heating lamp (10), a heating chamber (20), and a control module (30).
[0052] More specifically, the heating device (1) may be a heating device (1) that heats the electrode (E). At this time, the electrode (E) may be an electrode (E) included in a secondary battery. For example, the electrode (E) may be aluminum foil or copper foil. The electrode (E) may undergo a hot rolling process (R) during the electrode (E) manufacturing process. In the hot rolling process, the electrode is compressed by being pressurized upward and downward by a rolling roll (R1). At this time, in order for the hot rolling to be performed smoothly even at a low pressure, it is necessary to heat the electrode (E) in advance before the hot rolling process. This is called a pre-heating process. The heating device (1) of the present invention may be applied before the hot rolling process in this way.
[0053] Meanwhile, conventional preheating was performed using a roll press. However, due to the influence of the roll press, differences in electrode temperature occurred depending on the equipment operating speed and electrode type, resulting in electrode wrinkles. The inventors of the present invention recognized these problems and devised the present invention to solve them. The specific components and effects thereof will be described in detail below.
[0054]
[0055] Referring to FIGS. 3 to 5, the heating lamp (10) can be positioned to face the electrode (E).
[0056] At this time, at least one heating lamp (10) may be provided. For example, as shown in Fig. 3, a plurality of heating lamps (10) may be provided.
[0057]
[0058] The above heating chamber (20) may be configured to have an internal accommodation space that accommodates the heating lamp (10).
[0059] For example, referring to FIGS. 3 to 5, the heating chamber (20) may be a chamber having a roughly rectangular shape capable of accommodating a plurality of components in various ways.
[0060] Meanwhile, the heating chamber (20) may be configured to allow the electrode (E) to pass through. For example, when the surfaces perpendicular to the direction of travel (A) of the electrode (E) are referred to as the front and the rear, slits configured to allow the electrode (E) to pass through may be provided on the front and rear of the heating chamber (20). The electrode (E) may enter the heating chamber (20) through the slit. In addition, the electrode (E) may exit the heating chamber (20) through the slit. Meanwhile, the heating chamber (20) may include an internal space capable of accommodating not only the heating lamp (10) but also other components.
[0061]
[0062] The above control module (30) can be configured to control the temperature of the electrode (E).
[0063] For example, the control module (30) can control the temperature of the electrode (E) to be in a range from about room temperature to about 140°C or less. Preferably, the control module (30) can control the temperature of the electrode (E) to be in a range from about room temperature to about 110°C or less. When the temperature of the electrode (E) is controlled within such a temperature range, rolling of the electrode (E) can be performed more smoothly in the hot rolling process (R) applied later. In addition, wrinkles can be prevented from occurring in the electrode (E).
[0064] In this way, since the heating device (1) of the present invention is provided with at least one heating lamp (10), a heating chamber (20), and a control module (30), the temperature of the electrode (E) can be efficiently managed. In addition, the number of times the electrode (E) passes through the roll is reduced, thereby simplifying the process. Furthermore, the wrinkles occurring on the electrode (E) are reduced, thereby achieving the effect of improving yield. In addition, according to the above configuration, the linear pressure applied to the electrode (E) during the preheating process can be reduced.
[0065]
[0066] Fig. 6 is a drawing for explaining a heating lamp (10) included in the heating device (1) of Fig. 3.
[0067] The heating lamp (10) may be a lamp having a roughly linear shape, as shown in FIG. 6. When the heating lamp (10) has a roughly linear shape, the heating lamp (10) may be arranged roughly perpendicular to the electrode travel direction (A), as can be seen in FIG. 4. Alternatively, the heating lamp (10) may be a lamp having a roughly bulb shape. When the heating lamp (10) has a roughly bulb shape, the heating lamps (10) may be arranged at predetermined intervals on a bracket (41) to be described later. For example, the heating lamps (10) may be arranged roughly in a checkerboard pattern. With this arrangement, the electrode (E) can be heated uniformly throughout.
[0068] The above heating lamp (10) may be, for example, an infrared lamp. An infrared lamp can heat an object without direct contact with the object. Accordingly, according to the present invention, the object coming into contact with the electrode (E) during the preheating process of the electrode (E) can be minimized. Consequently, according to the present invention, the occurrence of electrode wrinkles during the preheating process can be suppressed.
[0069] Meanwhile, in this specification, an example is given where the heating lamp (10) is an infrared lamp, but the type of the heating lamp (10) of the present invention is not necessarily limited to an infrared lamp, and any type of lamp capable of heating the electrode (E) without contacting the electrode (E) can be employed in the present invention.
[0070]
[0071] FIG. 7 is a drawing for explaining the relationship between the heating lamp (10) and the electrode (E) included in the heating device (1) of FIG. 3, and FIG. 8 is a drawing for explaining the relationship between the heating lamp (10) and the electrode (E) included in the heating device (1) of FIG. 3.
[0072] In one aspect of the present invention, the heating lamp (10) may be positioned at a predetermined distance from the electrode (E). For example, referring to FIG. 7, the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) are spaced apart by a distance d1. With this structure, the electrode (E) can be effectively heated without direct contact between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10). Accordingly, according to the present invention, the object coming into contact with the electrode (E) during the preheating process of the electrode (E) can be minimized. Consequently, the occurrence of electrode wrinkles during the preheating process can be suppressed.
[0073]
[0074] In another aspect of the present invention, the heating lamp (10) may be provided in multiple numbers along the direction of travel (A) of the electrode (E).
[0075] For example, referring to FIG. 7, a heating device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be provided with a plurality of heating lamps (10) along the direction of travel (A) of the electrode (E). In the embodiment of FIG. 7, six heating lamps (10) are arranged at predetermined intervals along the direction of travel (A) of the electrode (E). With this structure, effective heating of the electrode (E) is possible even within a short travel distance range of the electrode (E). That is, with the above structure, the heating time during which the electrode (E) faces the heating lamp (10) may be increased. For example, a heating time greater than a certain level may be required for the electrode (E) to reach a desired temperature. However, since the electrode (E) is continuously moving within the manufacturing process, if it stops at a certain point and continues heating, the process efficiency may be reduced. Therefore, by arranging a plurality of heating lamps (10) along the electrode progression direction (A), the electrode (E) can be heated to a predetermined temperature and further, the temperature of the heated electrode (E) can be maintained.
[0076]
[0077] Meanwhile, as one embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of heating lamps (10) may all be controlled to produce the same output. Alternatively, as another embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of heating lamps (10) may be controlled to produce different outputs. That is, the control module (30) of the present invention can independently control the temperatures of the plurality of heating lamps (10) so that the electrode (E) can be heated with various temperature profiles depending on the material or shape of the electrode (E) to be heated.
[0078]
[0079] In another aspect of the present invention, the heating lamp (10) may include at least one of an upper heating lamp (11) disposed above the electrode (E); and a lower heating lamp (12) disposed below the electrode (E).
[0080] For example, only the upper heating lamp (11) may be provided, or only the lower heating lamp (12) may be provided. Alternatively, as illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8, both the upper heating lamp (11) and the lower heating lamp (12) may be provided simultaneously. In this case, the heating lamps (10) may be positioned in opposite directions with the electrode (E) interposed therebetween. With this structure, since the upper surface of the electrode (E) and the lower surface of the electrode (E) can be heated simultaneously, the temperature of the electrode (E) can be uniformly heated throughout.
[0081]
[0082] In another aspect of the present invention, the control module (30) may be configured to be able to adjust the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10).
[0083] For example, referring to FIG. 7, the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) may be d1, and referring to FIG. 8, the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) may be d2. That is, according to the present embodiment, the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) may be adjusted to various values. With this configuration, the temperature of the electrode (E) may be adjusted in various ways by adjusting the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10). For example, when the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) is d1 as shown in FIG. 7, and the temperature of the electrode (E) is T1, as shown in FIG. 8, when the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) is d2, which is greater than d1, the temperature T2 of the electrode (E) can be controlled to be lower than T1.
[0084]
[0085] Meanwhile, in order to configure the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) to be adjustable, the heating device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include at least one pneumatic cylinder (40) accommodated in the heating chamber (20); and a bracket (41) connected to at least a portion of the pneumatic cylinder (40) and having the heating lamp (10) mounted thereon. At this time, the control module (30) may control the operation of the pneumatic cylinder (40).
[0086] Referring to FIGS. 3, 5, 7, and 8, at least one heating lamp (10) can be mounted on the bracket (41). Preferably, a plurality of heating lamps (10) can be mounted on the bracket (41). At this time, at least one pneumatic cylinder (40) can be connected to the bracket (41). For example, in the embodiments of FIGS. 3, 5, 7, and 8, six upper heating lamps (11) are mounted on the upper bracket (41), and six lower heating lamps (12) are mounted on the lower bracket (41). In addition, in the embodiments of FIGS. 3, 5, 7, and 8, one pneumatic cylinder (40) is mounted on each of the two ends of the upper bracket (41), so that a total of two pneumatic cylinders (40) are mounted on the upper portion. In addition, a pneumatic cylinder (40) is provided on each of the two ends of the lower bracket (41), so that a total of two pneumatic cylinders (40) are provided at the bottom. At this time, when the control module (30) withdraws the piston of the pneumatic cylinder (40) out of the cylinder, the bracket (41) attached and connected to the pneumatic cylinder (40) moves forward toward the electrode (E). Accordingly, the distance between the heating lamp (10) attached to the bracket (41) and the electrode (E) can be shortened. Accordingly, the temperature of the electrode (E) can further increase. On the other hand, when the control module (30) inserts the piston of the pneumatic cylinder (40) into the cylinder, the bracket (41) attached and connected to the pneumatic cylinder (40) moves away from the electrode (E). Accordingly, the distance between the heating lamp (10) attached to the bracket (41) and the electrode (E) can be shortened. Accordingly, the temperature of the electrode (E) can further decrease.
[0087] Meanwhile, in the present invention, a pneumatic cylinder (40) is used as an example as a component for adjusting the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10), but the scope of the present invention is not limited thereto, and any structure capable of adjusting the distance between one component and another component can be employed in the present invention.
[0088] Meanwhile, in FIG. 3, for convenience of illustration, the control module (30) is shown connected to the lower bracket (41) and the lower heating lamp (10), but it is of course possible to control the upper components as well, as the control module (30) is also connected to the upper bracket (41) and the upper heating lamp (10).
[0089]
[0090] In another aspect of the present invention, the control module (30) can be configured to adjust the gap between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) in multiple stages.
[0091] For example, as shown in FIG. 7, the control module (30) can set the gap between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) to d1, and as shown in FIG. 8, the gap between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) can be set to d2. Alternatively, although not shown in the drawing, the gap between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) can be configured to have two or more steps. For example, the gap between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10) can be configured to be adjustable in 10 steps. According to such a configuration, the heating device of the present invention can be applied to various cases where the heating conditions differ depending on the material or thickness of the electrode (E). For example, when the material of the electrode (E) is a material having a relatively high heat capacity, the steps can be adjusted so that the gap between the heating lamp (10) and the electrode (E) becomes narrow, thereby increasing the output transmitted to the electrode (E). Alternatively, as another example, if the electrode (E) is relatively thin, the output transmitted to the electrode (E) can be reduced by adjusting the step so that the gap between the heating lamp (10) and the electrode (E) is relatively far apart.
[0092] Furthermore, the control module (30) may be configured to continuously adjust the gap between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10). This embodiment may be particularly advantageous when the thickness of the electrode (E) is continuously modified.
[0093]
[0094] In another aspect of the present invention, the gap between the upper heating lamp (11) and the electrode (E) can be configured to be the same as the gap between the lower heating lamp (12) and the electrode (E).
[0095] For example, referring to FIGS. 7 and 8, the gap between the upper heating lamp (11) and the electrode (E) is the same as the gap between the lower heating lamp (12) and the electrode (E). On the other hand, although not shown in the drawings, the gap between the upper heating lamp (11) and the electrode (E) may be configured differently from the gap between the lower heating lamp (12) and the electrode (E). That is, as needed, so as to be applicable to various cases, the control module (30) can control the gap between the upper heating lamp (11) and the electrode (E) and the gap between the lower heating lamp (12) and the electrode (E) to be independently variable.
[0096]
[0097] In one aspect of the present invention, the heating device (1) may further include an exhaust device (50).
[0098] For example, referring to FIGS. 3 to 5, the exhaust device (50) may be provided in the heating chamber (20). Preferably, the exhaust device (50) may be provided within the heating chamber (20). For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the exhaust device (50) may be provided on the upper side of the space within the heating chamber (20).
[0099] The above exhaust device (50) may be configured to discharge fluid within the heating chamber (20) to the outside of the heating chamber (20). Here, the fluid may include, for example, moisture generated by heating the electrode (E). In this way, according to the structure of the present invention, by discharging moisture through the exhaust device (50), the drying effect of the electrode (E) can also be obtained.
[0100] Meanwhile, the exhaust device (50) may be, for example, a ring blower. A ring blower is an exhaust device that transports a large amount of air, gas, steam, etc. at low pressure.
[0101] Meanwhile, in this specification, a ring blower is used as an example as an embodiment of the exhaust device (50) of the present invention, but the exhaust device (50) of the present invention is not limited to the ring blower, and any device capable of discharging fluid within the heating chamber (20) to the outside of the heating chamber (20) is included in the scope of the heating device (1) of the present invention.
[0102]
[0103] In another aspect of the present invention, the heating device (1) may further include a temperature sensor (60). The temperature sensor (60) may be electrically connected to the control module (30).
[0104] For example, referring to FIGS. 3 to 5, the heating device (1) may be equipped with the temperature sensor (60) on the exit side of the electrode (E). That is, the temperature sensor (60) can measure the temperature of the electrode (E) when the electrode (E) exits the heating chamber (20) after heating of the electrode (E) is performed within the heating chamber (20). The measured temperature can be transmitted to the control module (30). According to the structure of the present invention in which the temperature sensor (60) is equipped in this way, the temperature of the electrode (E) that has passed through the heating chamber (20) can be measured, and thereafter, the control module (30) can adjust the heating temperature to match the desired electrode (E) temperature.
[0105]
[0106] In another aspect of the present invention, the control module (30) may be configured to control the progress speed of the electrode (E).
[0107] For example, the control module (30) can be connected to a roller for driving the electrode (E) and control the rotation speed of the roller. In this way, by slowing down the progress speed of the electrode (E), the control module (30) can increase the time that the electrode (E) comes into contact with the heating lamp (10). Accordingly, the temperature of the electrode (E) can be increased. Conversely, the control module (30) can decrease the time that the electrode (E) comes into contact with the heating lamp (10) by increasing the progress speed of the electrode (E). Accordingly, the temperature of the electrode (E) can be lowered.
[0108]
[0109] Meanwhile, in another aspect of the present invention, the control module (30) may be configured to be able to control the output of the heating lamp (10).
[0110] For example, the control module (30) can be electrically connected to a power supply unit that supplies power to the heating lamp (10). That is, the control module (30) can control the amount of power supplied to the heating lamp (10). For example, the control module (30) can control the output of the heating lamp (10) between 0 and 100%. Therefore, the temperature of the electrode (E) can be easily controlled only by controlling the output of the heating lamp (10) without controlling the distance between the heating lamp (10) and the electrode (E) or controlling the progress speed of the electrode (E).
[0111]
[0112] In another aspect of the present invention, the control module (30) can control the temperature of the electrode (E) through at least one of: (a) controlling the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10); (b) controlling the progress speed of the electrode (E); and (c) controlling the output of the heating lamp (10). For example, the temperature of the electrode (E) can be controlled only by controlling the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10), or the temperature of the electrode (E) can be controlled by controlling the progress speed of the electrode (E) while simultaneously controlling the distance between the electrode (E) and the heating lamp (10), or the temperature of the electrode (E) can be controlled by controlling the progress speed of the electrode (E) while simultaneously controlling the output of the heating lamp (10).
[0113]
[0114] According to various embodiments as described above, it is possible to prevent wrinkles from forming on the electrode (E) during the electrode (E) heating process. In addition, the electrode (E) can be heated to a constant temperature, and the preheating pressure applied to the electrode (E) during the preheating process can be reduced.
[0115]
[0116] Meanwhile, although terms indicating directions such as up and down are used in this specification, it is obvious to those skilled in the art that these terms are only for convenience of explanation and may vary depending on the location of the target object or the location of the observer.
[0117] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to limited embodiments and drawings, the present invention is not limited thereto, and it is obvious that various modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the technical idea of the present invention and the equivalent scope of the patent claims to be described below by a person having ordinary skill in the art to which the present invention pertains.
