Abstract
Description
[0001] DEVICE FOR CONDUCTING PVT RESEARCH OF RESERVOIR FLUIDS
[0002] The invention relates to the oil and gas production industry and is intended for studying the physical properties of formation fluids using PVT analysis.
[0003] Known PVT system devices that have multiple cell housings, which is a significant drawback that affects the accuracy of the studies, and the measurement process can take longer and be more complicated, this is due to the fact that performing experiments with two cell housings requires additional time to prepare both cell housings, which can complicate the measurement process, and will require more resources to configure and calibrate it, which can also reduce the accuracy of measurements and increase the cost of the experiment, have a small viewing window located in the middle of the cell housing.
[0004] A universal phase equilibrium cell is known, comprising a cell body, a body tilting system, a piston, a cooling device located with the POSSIBILITY of cooling the cell body, temperature sensors located with the possibility of measuring temperature parameters, a stirrer with a drive, a video camera (RU Patent No. 209441, G01N 7 / 00, published March 16, 2022).
[0005] The disadvantages of this technical solution are that
[0006] - the cell body material is sapphire, which affects the dimensions of the cell body, useful volume and working pressure, limiting it with its properties and the size of the workpiece, so it is technically impossible to manufacture a cell body of large volume and for higher pressure from sapphire: the larger the volume, the more pressure acts on the wall and the thicker the wall is required, while sapphire processing is not a traditional task; piston drive through hydraulic fluid no rigid piston drive, which leads to a decrease in the accuracy of the experiment. to regulate the temperature, a thermal jacket made of transparent material is put on over the cell body, the space between the cell body and the thermal jacket is filled with a coolant, there are several refraction zones in the optical zone, which reduces the accuracy of the measurement, since the relatively large optical path of light in the studied medium makes the measurement difficult.
[0007] A device for studying formation oil (ROI) is known, containing a high-pressure and variable-volume housing, which includes a mixing device and measuring devices that record the working volume of the housing, the temperature and pressure in it, while in order to increase the reliability and quality of measurements, the mixing device is equipped with a magnetic stirrer, a piston (RU Patent No. 2448246, E21B 47 / 00, G01N 7 / 00,
[0008] B01F 13 / 08, published 20.04.2012).
[0009] The disadvantages of this technical solution are that the device provides mixing of the sample throughout the volume of the high-pressure housing, but it is not applicable in the presence of high-viscosity oil, and the absence of a viewing window does not allow studying gas condensate mixtures. A device for studying PVT - ratios of formation fluids is known, containing a high-pressure cell housing for the sample under study, covered with a thermostatic jacket, equipped with a piston, a mixing device is located in the cell housing, the cell housing is equipped with a viewing window with glass and is designed with the possibility of installing pressure and temperature sensors, a video camera (RU Patent No. 218215, G01N 7 / 00, on. 16.05.2023).
[0010] The disadvantages of this technical solution are that
[0011] - mixing of the sample is carried out by moving the ring when the angle of inclination of the cell body changes, and to return the ring to the specified annular groove of the piston, it is necessary to install the cell body vertically; for effective measurement of the dew point, a position is required in which the force of gravity will move the ring closer to the viewing window, and it will fall out of the piston, blocking the view, and the image obtained from the video camera will not allow accurate measurement of the volume of the liquid phase;
[0012] - lack of ability to work with gas condensates;
[0013] - low efficiency and uniformity of mixing when using a ring as a stirrer;
[0014] - it is not possible to remove the piston from the cell body to change the seals, and changing the piston seals requires disassembling the device;
[0015] - there is no way to control the force of pressing the glass to the cell body, which is necessary to ensure the tightness of the installation;
[0016] - there is no system for protecting the glass from sudden pressure build-up and release, which leads to loss of tightness of the cell body and breakage of the viewing glass; A screw with a trapezoidal thread with a groove is used to move the piston, and when a load is created on the screw, there will be increased wear of the screw, and the groove can lead to the formation of chips when the screw moves along the nut, the efficiency coefficient of the trapezoidal thread pair is about 65%;
[0017] - the maximum pressure is limited by the strength of the screw and the larger the screw diameter, the greater the load that can be created, in the proposed design, the screw enters the cell body, so the screw diameter is limited by the diameter of the cell body, and if you install the screw outside, you can use a screw of any diameter and create a higher pressure than in the proposed design; the lower support bearing mounting system does not allow you to control the force.
[0018] Thus, the structure is subject to premature wear, the formation of play is possible, as well as the effect of “lengthening” of the cell body when pressure is created inside the chamber, which significantly reduces the accuracy of measurements.
[0019] The closest in technical essence is
[0020] A device for studying phase states of gas-liquid mixtures, comprising a cell body, a piston, sealing elements, a mixing device arranged with the possibility of mixing a sample inside the cell body, a pressure sensor arranged with the possibility of measuring the sample pressure inside the cell body, and a measuring device arranged with the possibility of determining the position of the piston, the cell body is designed with the possibility of hermetically sealed placement of the piston inside it, providing it with reciprocating movement, the piston is designed with the possibility of hermetically sealed placement inside the cell body (USSR patent No. 794430, GOIN 7 / 14, on. 07.01. 1981, prototype).
[0021] The disadvantages of this technical solution are that there is no controlled mixing and the almost complete lack of possibility of mixing viscous oils at temperatures below
[0022] +20°C and the presence of a large volume" unmixed volume of the chamber, due to the design of the mixer and the connected pressure gauge.
[0023] The declared Device for conducting thermodynamic studies of the properties and phase behavior of reservoir fluids, including viscous oils, highly viscous oils, gas condensate mixtures, gas-liquid mixtures, in reservoir conditions differs from known ones, among other things, in that it uses one cell body, allowing to reduce the unmixed volume of the sample, significantly reduce the time and simplify the process of measuring the thermodynamic properties of fluids in the sample, and also uses a rigid mechanical piston drive, ensuring an increase in the accuracy and reliability of the results of measuring the thermodynamic properties of fluids.
[0024] The technical problem is to modernize the temperature, pressure and volume measurement system for studying the thermodynamic properties of fluids to determine the RUT - the ratio of deep and recombined samples of formation fluids, including critical gas condensate systems, reduced to the thermobaric conditions of their occurrence, with an increase in its technical characteristics.
[0025] The technical result of the device for conducting thermodynamic studies of the properties and phase behavior of formation fluids under formation conditions consists in increasing the reliability, quality and accuracy of sample measurements, for example, a sample of formation fluid in the form of gas condensate.

[0062] There are laboratory and computational research methods aimed at modeling the process of oil displacement by gas.
[0063] A device for conducting thermodynamic studies of the properties and phase behavior of reservoir fluids under reservoir conditions uses a test sample, such as a reservoir fluid sample, to measure and analyze the physical properties of oil, gas and water (PVT system - pressure, volume, temperature
[0064] (temperature)); in geological research, oil and gas well design, and in the process of oil and gas production to optimize production and control processes. The device with RUT analysis refers to a system for analyzing the properties of gases and liquids (formation fluids, crude oil, gas and water), in which their pressure (P), volume (V) and temperature (T) are studied in various states. These systems are used to analyze phase transformations and thermodynamic properties of substances.
[0065] In the oil and gas industry, PVT analysis is used to determine the properties of crude oil, gas, and water under various pressure and temperature conditions. PVT analysis is an important tool for field development and operation, determining oil and gas production and transportation parameters, and predicting phase behavior in the reservoir and at the surface.
[0066] A device for conducting thermodynamic studies of the properties and phase behavior of formation fluids under formation conditions (hereinafter referred to as the "Device") comprises a cell body 26, a frame, a clamping nut 8, a piston 20, sealing elements, a mixing device, a measuring device that is an optical ruler, pressure sensors 7 and temperature, an inlet 9 and outlet 10 valves, a mechanical piston drive, an electric heater 11, a cooling device 12, a cell body tilting system, and a control unit with computer software.
[0067] The cell body 26 is designed with the possibility of hermetically placing the piston 20 with the magnetic mixer inside it by means of the sealing element 23, providing the reciprocating movement of the piston 20, the sealing element 28, providing the reciprocating movement of the piston 20 inside the cell body 26, with the possibility of fixing the frame on the end surface of the cell body 26, with the possibility of fixing it inside the flange 32 of the casing, with the possibility of fixing the cooling device 12 on the side surface of the cell body 26, and is provided with openings designed with the possibility of fixing the pressure sensors 7 and temperature, the inlet 9 and outlet 10 valves in them, for example, in the side surface of the cell body 26.
[0068] The cell body 26 is additionally provided with input and output ports (not shown in the figure), located inside the cell body 26, providing a tight metal-to-metal seal that can withstand even the most extreme pressure, and located with the possibility of shutting them off by input 9 and output 10 valves.
[0069] The input and output ports are designed with the possibility of cleaning the cell body 26 and the viewing window 3 using the input and output ports, for example, by washing them, since the sample being studied is, for example, a formation fluid, since the sapphire glass of the viewing window 3 and the cell body 26 itself must be cleaned regularly.
[0070] The configuration of the cell body 26 allows to reduce the dead volume to its minimum value, to reduce the area of the internal surfaces on which condensate is formed, increasing, among other things, the accuracy of the experiment, and allows to vary the dimensions of the cell body 26, changing them, namely, the size by length, the size by wall thickness and changing the volume depending on the calculated pressures.
[0071] Dead volume is a part of the cell body 26 volume that does not participate in the main function of the cell body 26 and remains in the cell body 26 after the liquid has completely drained. This volume is not available for use in the research process due to the design features of the cell body 26. Thus, the smaller the dead volume, the better the experimental results.
[0072] The body of cell 26 (PVT cell) is made of corrosion-resistant material.
[0073] For example, the body of cell 2266 (PVT cell) is formed by a cylindrical element made of AISI316 steel; in the upper part of this cell body 26, a viewing window 3 is placed, which is equipped with a high-strength sapphire optical glass, fixed in the frame by means of a clamping nut 8.
[0074] The cell body 26 is a removable structure due to the presence of a thread for fastening inside the flange 32 of the casing, providing the possibility of upgrading its installation to change the characteristics of the Device.
[0075] The location of the input and output ports in the body of cell 26 additionally allows for a reduction in dead volume to minimum values (unmixed volume), as well as a reduction in the area of the internal surfaces in the body of cell 26 on which condensation forms during the study, which increases the accuracy of the experiment.
[0076] The inlet valve 9 and the outlet valve 10 are installed in the body of the cell 26 with the ability to provide movement of the sample of the formation fluid being studied for loading the fluid into the body of the cell 26 and unloading the fluid from the body of the cell 26, and have a design that allows replacing the seat of the valve needle without the need to repair the body of the cell 26.
[0077] The inlet valve 9 and the outlet valve 10 are arranged with the possibility of connecting hydraulic lines to them, through which a sample of the formation fluid being studied is moved into the inlet valve 9 and then into the cell body 26 or from the cell body 26 then into the outlet valve 10 and the hydraulic line, and each is a needle valve.
[0078] The seats for the inlet 9 and outlet 10 valve needles are located in the valve body. In case of wear of the seat, it is sufficient to replace the needle valve, without the need to replace the cell body 26.
[0079] For example, the connection of hydraulic lines (not shown in the figure) to the body of cell 26 is carried out through capillary channels, for example, with a diameter of 1 / 8 inch, needles of the inlet 9 and outlet 10 valves, ensuring the movement of a sample of the formation fluid being studied for loading into the body of cell 26 by means of the inlet valve 9 and unloading from the body of cell 26 by means of the outlet valve 10.
[0080] The frame consists of a frame body 1, a viewing window 3, a pressure flange 4, sealing elements in the form of a combined protective seal 6 and a combined seal 2.
[0081] The frame body 1 is designed with the possibility of hermetically placing inside it a viewing window 3 in the form of sapphire glass by means of a combined protective seal 6 and with the possibility of hermetically securing to the end surface of the cell body 26 by means of a combined seal 2 and a clamping nut 8.
[0082] The viewing window 3 is fixed in the frame body 1 by means of a clamping flange 4 and clamping screws 5.
[0083] The frame is fixed on the end surface of the cell body 26 and provides support and protection from damage to the sapphire glass of the viewing window 3, maintaining the strength and transparency of the sapphire glass, and also contributing to convenience and control, allowing visual observation of objects or events located behind the sapphire glass in the cell body 26, eliminating the likelihood of damage to the sapphire glass during assembly and disassembly, simplifying the procedure for assembling and disassembling the elements, ensuring regular cleaning and replacement of seals 2 and 6, unlike the known ones, which have a complex special procedure for installing sapphire glass in the cell body 26.
[0084] The viewing window 3 in the frame combines functionality, safety and practical advantages, providing the ability to observe, protect and hold the sapphire crystal. The frame with the sapphire crystal is assembled in factory conditions. The sealing elements are known: a combined protective seal 6 for sealing the viewing window 3 and protecting the sapphire crystal from damage, a combined seal 2 for sealing the frame body 1 and a combined seal 23 for sealing the piston 20 and ensuring the tightness of the cell 26, wherein the combined protective seal 6 is made with the ability to provide reliable and safe sealing to the sapphire crystal and with the ability to protect the sapphire crystal from a sharp increase and decrease in pressure, which allows loading the sapphire crystal at a high speed.
[0085] The combined seal 2 and 23 is designed to ensure operation of the Device at temperatures from - 30°C to + 200°C, and pressures above 1000 bar, withstanding exposure to chemically aggressive environments.
[0086] The design of the cell body 26 allows for variation in the type of glass used in the viewing window 3. The piston 20 is made of titanium and can be hermetically sealed inside the cell body 26 by means of a combined seal 23, with the possibility of reciprocating movement relative to the axis of the cell body 26, with the possibility of hermetically sealed placement of a magnetic mixer inside it and with the possibility of fastening with a pusher 28 connected to a ball screw transmission screw 14, which has high precision and minimal friction resistance.
[0087] The piston 20 is made of titanium, which improves the strength and magnetic field permeability characteristics and can withstand pressures of over 1000 bar.
[0088] The mechanical drive of the piston is aligned with the screw of the ball-screw transmission 14, the pusher 28, the limiter of the piston stroke 29, the gearbox 16 and the servomotor 15, ensuring the movement of the piston 20 over the distance of the calculated stroke inside the cell body 26.
[0089] The screw of the ball screw transmission BSP 14 is designed with the possibility of connection with the gearbox 16 on one side and with the pusher 28 on the other side, with the possibility of placing on it a travel limiter 29 connected to the pusher 28, and is provided with an opening for connection with the drive 17 of the magnetic mixer, located on the opposite side relative to the piston 20, ensuring rotation of the magnetic mixer, wherein the torque to the screw of the ball screw 14 is transmitted through the shaft of the servo drive 15 and through the gearbox 16, ensuring an efficiency of about 80%.
[0090] The travel limiter 29 is designed with the possibility of being positioned and secured on the screw of the ball screw transmission 14 and with the possibility of positioning and securing on it a mount for an optical ruler, by which the position of the piston 20 is measured, for example, it is designed in the form of a nut.
[0091] The pusher 28 is designed with the possibility of connection with the ball screw 14 on one side and with the possibility of fastening with the piston on the other side and is, for example, a sleeve.
[0092] It is worth noting that in order to replace the combined seal 23, the piston 20 can be fully extended from the cell body 26, and the mechanical piston drive allows the piston 20 to be removed from the cell body 26, providing access to the combined seals 23 without disassembling the cell body 26.
[0093] In devices from other manufacturers, changing the piston seals is not possible without disassembling the cell body.
[0094] The ball screw 14 is driven into rotation by the reduction gear 16 of the mechanical piston drive, ensuring the creation of the calculated pressure in the cell body 26, while the reduction gear 16 is activated by a separate servomotor 15, connected to and controlled by the control unit with the computer software, allowing the speed and direction of rotation of the reduction gear 16 to be adjusted. Thus, the reciprocating movement of the piston 20 in both directions inside the cell body 26 occurs.
[0095] The casing consists of two flanges 31 and 32, connected to each other by a side surface 30, which is made with holes or an opening and with the possibility of fixing it on the side surfaces of the flanges by means of a detachable connection, for example, by means of screws, and is provided with at least four guides 33.
[0096] One flange 32 is connected to the body of the cell 26 by means of a threaded connection, and the second flange 31 is secured in the reducer 16 by means of a detachable connection, for example, a bolted connection.
[0097] The side surface 30 is, for example, a solid metal surface with a rectangular or circular cross-section, provided with holes or an opening, or a metal assembly structure made of plates sequentially secured to the side surface of the flanges 31 and 32 by means of screws, with the formation of holes or an opening for an output, for example, an output of a fastening located on the travel limiter 29, for connection with an optical ruler located on the side surface 30 of the casing and connected to a control unit with computer software.
[0098] The mount for the optical ruler is a known mount that ensures the fixation of the optical ruler on the travel limiter 29 and the location of the optical ruler on the side surface 30 of the casing, for example, a bracket.
[0099] Guides 33 are located inside the side surface 30 and are secured to the inner end surfaces of flanges 31 and 32.
[0100] Guides 33 are designed with the ability to ensure the calculated rigidity of the Device, with the ability to ensure the location inside the casing of the ball screw 14 with the pusher 28, the travel limiter 29 with a mount for the optical ruler, with the ability to ensure the coaxiality of the position of the piston 20 and the cell body 26 and to ensure the limitation of the rotation of the ball screw 14 around its axis.
[0101] Guide 33 is, for example, a metal tube, a metal rod, a metal bar with a quadrangular or triangular cross-section.
[0102] The mixing device is a magnetic mixer consisting of a leading rotor 22, leading 21 and driven 24 magnets, and a driven rotor 25 located in a piston 20 and equipped with a drive 17, fixed on a gearbox 16 with the possibility of interaction with the magnetic mixer.
[0103] The magnetic mixer ensures mixing of the fluid sample located in the cell body 26 and is a metal magnetic mixer, which is driven by a drive 17 under the action of magnetic forces during rotation of the leading rotor 22, driven by a stepper motor.
[0104] The design of the magnetic mixer with drive 17 used guarantees effective mixing of the test sample in any position of the cell body 26, reducing the “dead” volume and ensuring effective mixing, including of highly viscous oils.
[0105] The drive 17 of the magnetic mixer is a known motor with a gearbox for a magnetic mixer.
[0106] The driven rotor 25, located in the piston 20, is driven into rotation by a magnetic field, ensuring the tightness of the piston 20 structure.
[0107] The cooling device (thermal jacket) 12 is located above the cell body 26 with the possibility of cooling the cell body 26 and with the possibility of connection to an external device for cooling the cell body 26 and is connected to a control unit with computer software with the ability to control the cooling temperature. The thermal jacket 12 is a sealed container equipped with an input, for example, in the form of a nipple or branch pipe, ensuring the flow of the working medium into the sealed container, and an output, for example, in the form of a nipple or branch pipe, ensuring the draining of the working medium from the sealed container, and made in a shape having an internal surface repeating the shape of the external surface of the cell body 26.
[0108] The drive motor 17 of the magnetic mixer is located at a distance from the heating zone of the thermal jacket 12, which is determined based on ensuring the temperature insulation of the drive motor 17, so that the drive motor 17 is not affected by temperature.
[0109] The external cooling device (not shown in the figure) is, for example, a thermocryostat, located with the possibility of connection to the cooling device 12, providing circulation of the liquid cooled by the thermocryostat, and thereby providing cooling of the cell body 26 depending on the task at hand and in accordance with the technical specifications, and is connected to the control unit with computer software with the possibility of controlling the cooling temperature.
[0110] The electric heater 11 is connected to a control unit with computer software with the ability to control the heating temperature and is a clamp-type electric heater installed with the ability to provide heating of the cell body 26 over the cooling device - thermal jacket 1.2
[0111] For example, the cell body 26 is built into the thermal jacket 12 in the form of a thermostatic shell or casing filled with a heated coolant, for example, PMS 100 oil, from an external cooling device, due to the presence of an input and output in the form of fittings for feeding and draining the working medium - the coolant. To maintain the temperature in the cell body 26 at the calculated level, an external device is used, for example, a standard laboratory liquid thermostat with a circulation pump.
[0112] The temperature sensor is located with the ability to measure the temperature of the sample inside the housing of cell 26 and is connected to a control unit with computer software with the ability to transmit measured data for recording temperature readings and with the ability to control the temperature inside the housing of cell 26.
[0113] The temperature sensor is, for example, a temperature sensor of the RT-100 type.
[0114] The pressure sensor 7 is arranged to provide pressure measurement in the cell body 26 and is connected to a control unit with computer software with the ability to transmit measurement data for recording pressure readings to the control unit with software and with the ability to control the pressure inside the cell body 26.
[0115] Pressure sensor 7 measures the pressure readings in the housing of cell 26 and is, for example, a Keller PA-35X NT pressure sensor.
[0116] The cell body tilt system is arranged with the possibility of interaction with the cell body 26, providing the angle of its tilt, and includes a support frame 19, a servo drive 13 with a reducer, the shaft of which is fixed on the support frame 19, a rotation axis 18, support bearings connected to the rotation axis 18, and a tilt angle sensor 34, providing a specified angle of position of the cell body 26 relative to its horizontal position, wherein the rotation axis is connected to the reducer of the servo drive 13 and fixed on the side surface 30 of the casing with the possibility of placing the rotation axis 18 on the support frame 19.
[0117] The support frame 19 is a metal structure designed to provide the possibility of arranging the casing with the axis of rotation 18 on it with the possibility of rotation of the casing.
[0118] The tilt angle sensor 34 is located and secured with the ability to measure the tilt angle of the cell body 26 and is connected to the control unit with the computer software with the ability to transmit tilt angle data, for example, secured to the gearbox 16, ensuring tilt together with the cell body 26 at a given angle, increased accuracy of the tilt angle value and allowing to determine the sample volume in the cell body 26 with increased accuracy. The tilt angle sensor 34 is, for example, a sensor based on a gyroscope for determining the tilt angle, allowing to provide a calculated angle of the position of the cell body 26 relative to its horizontal position.
[0119] The cell body tilt system is a feedback system with a control unit with computer software, allowing the angle of the cell body 26 position relative to the horizon to be changed by 180°, thereby ensuring the mixing of the sample in the cell body 26 and providing different positions for measuring the pressure and temperature of the sample inside the cell body 26.
[0120] The control unit with computer software includes a video camera 27, installed with the possibility of its frontal position relative to the viewing window 3, and a computer equipped with a controller, driver and computer software, and connected to the video camera 27.
[0121] The control unit with the computer software is arranged with the possibility of providing the receipt of measurement data from the sensors and images from the video camera 27, their analysis and recording, monitoring the data of pressure, temperature and volume of the sample, the angle of inclination and volume of the sample, performing calculations, for example, determining the volume of liquid in the body of the cell 26, and controlling the devices and parameters. For example, the known high-resolution video camera 27 is fixed on the holder in front of the viewing window 3 and the image of the sample being tested is transmitted through the video camera 27 to the control unit with the computer, wherein the holder, for example, in the form of a bracket (not shown in the Fig.), allows the distance relative to the viewing window 3 to be adjusted to obtain the best quality image of the sample being tested inside the body of the cell 26.
[0122] The optical ruler is located on the side surface 30 of the casing with the ability to determine the position of the piston 20, is fixed on the travel limiter 29 by means of a fastening, which is fixed on the optical ruler, and is connected to the control unit with the computer software with the ability to transmit the measurement data of the position of the piston 20 by means of a wired connection and is, for example, a JTM - 4VS digital ruler.
[0123] For the calculation, data are used, for example, on the position of the piston 20, the angle of inclination of the cell body 26, temperature and pressure, which allow measuring the level of the liquid and gaseous phase in the cell body 26, necessary for conducting all experiments.
[0124] The volume of liquid in the cavity of the cell body 26 is determined by analyzing the image from the video camera 27, installed frontally in front of the viewing window 3.
[0125] For example, the pressure and volume in the cavity of the cell body 26 are changed by changing the position of the piston 20, which is driven by the ball screw 14.
[0126] To calculate the volume of fluid phases and assess the state of the analyzed sample inside the housing of cell 26, a video camera 27 is used, which transmits an image of the state of the analyzed sample inside the housing of cell 26 in real time to a control unit equipped with technical components and supplied with computer software.
[0127] The computer software ensures the receipt of measurement and image data, analyzes and records them, monitors the pressure, temperature, tilt angle and volume of the sample, performs calculations and controls devices and parameters, for example, controls the image of the state of the analyzed sample inside the housing of cell 26, coming from the video camera 27, analyzes the image of the state of the analyzed sample inside the housing of cell 26, records images of the state of the analyzed sample inside the housing of cell 26, performs calculations, including determining the liquid level in the housing of cell 26 and controls the devices and parameters of the Device, ensuring communication, including with peripheral devices that receive and transmit information to the computer with the computer software, the computer software of the control unit also allows measuring the level of the liquid and gaseous phase of the analyzed sample in the housing of cell 26.
[0128] For example, for calculation by the computer software, data on the position of the piston 20, on the angle of inclination of the cell body 26 and on the sample pressure are used; to create pressure inside the cell body 26, a mechanical piston drive can be used, controlled by the control unit computer using a servomotor 15, which is controlled by the control unit computer. Rotation of the servomotor shaft 15 through the reducer 16 sets in motion the ball screw 14, connected to the piston 20. The high technology of the process of manufacturing the components of the device and their assembly is due to the use of standard technological methods and approaches, including turning and milling, rolling, hardening and honing.
[0129] The device works as follows.
[0130] To transfer deep samples of formation fluid (gas or gas condensate) into the housing of cell 26, a known special device is used for heating a known sampler to the formation temperature, which is available in the laboratory. After the sample taken for analysis is thoroughly mixed by known means, the sample is moved into the housing of cell 26 via hydraulic lines (inlet and outlet lines for adding and pumping out the analyzed sample) by feeding hydraulic fluid into the piston space of the sampler.
[0131] When working with surface samples of gas condensate systems, recombination of the gas and liquid phases occurs directly in the cell body 26, with each phase moving into the cell in a similar manner to that for deep samples. For gas samples, instead of hydraulic fluid, gas pressure is used, which is increased through a gas booster.
[0132] After the sample taken for the study is transferred to the cell body 26, it is brought to the design pressure and design temperature and thoroughly mixed simultaneously by rocking the cell body 26, changing the angle of inclination, and by means of a magnetic mixer. The saturation pressure in the cell body 26 is monitored, determining it by analyzing the image obtained from the video camera 27. The operator selects the type of standard test that must be carried out to study the fluid (gas or gas condensate) or develops his own sequence of the experiment according to the technical task. Then the operator transfers the sample of the studied formation fluid, previously obtained by a known method and means, into the cavity of the cell body 26 through the inlet port, blocked by the inlet valve 9, to study the properties of the formation fluid under pressure, volume and temperature conditions according to the technical task.
[0133] The Device is controlled via the software of the computer of the control unit of the visual measurement system of the liquid volume. The volume of the liquid phase of the sample of the studied formation fluid in the housing of the cell 26 is measured by the visual measurement system of the liquid volume. The operator sets the parameters of the experiment in the control unit with the software of the computer, for example, the parameters of pressure, temperature, tilt angle, rate of change of volume, rate of change of pressure, rate of change of temperature, mixing speed with the technical task for modeling external conditions, studies the behavior of the sample of the studied formation fluid, focusing on the data obtained, for example, from the pressure sensors 7 and temperature and the tilt angle sensor 34 and on the images obtained from the video camera 27.
[0134] In order to control the temperature of the sample of the formation fluid being studied, the cell body 26 is equipped with a thermal jacket 12, in which a liquid circulates, the temperature of which is maintained and controlled by an external device in the form of a thermocryostat together with a control unit with computer software. The external device is connected by hoses to the thermal jacket 12, on top of which an electric heater 11 is installed to increase the heating rate of the sample of the formation fluid being studied in the cell body 26. The temperature in the cell body 26 is measured by a temperature sensor (not shown in the figure), and the electric heater 11 is controlled by means of the computer software of the control unit using a PID controller of the control unit algorithm (not shown in the figure). In this way, the formation fluid sample in the cell body 26 is effectively heated or cooled in accordance with the experimental conditions.
[0135] PID controller is a device used for automatic process control. It is based on a combination of three main components: P (proportional), I (integral) and D (differential).
[0136] The proportional component (P) regulates the output signal proportionally to the difference between the set value and the current state of the process. The greater the difference, the greater the correction.
[0137] The integral component (I) accumulates and takes into account past control errors. It calculates the sum of errors and applies correction to eliminate persistent errors.
[0138] The differential component (D) reacts to the rate of change of the control error. It smooths out the correction if the changes occur too quickly to avoid sharp fluctuations.
[0139] The combination of these three components in a PID controller allows for stable and accurate process control, minimizing errors and oscillations.
[0140] The software of the control unit computer allows for automated PVT testing, receiving data from pressure sensors 7 and temperature and video camera 27, recording them, creating graphics, and controlling the operation of the Device as a whole and its individual elements.
[0141] The pressure and volume of the formation fluid sample in the cell body 26 are created and controlled by changing the position of the piston 20, which is driven by the ball screw 14, providing reciprocating movement of the piston 20. The ball screw 14 is connected to the piston 20 with the possibility of rotation, and the rotation of the ball screw 14 is carried out by transmitting torque from the servo drive shaft 15 through the gearbox 16.
[0142] Using optical ruler 34, the exact position of piston 20 is determined.
[0143] The position of the cell body 26 relative to the horizontal position is regulated by the cell body tilting system, ensuring the calculated tilt angle of the cell body 26 and ensuring a timely (calculated) and uniform transition of the “gas-liquid” phases by mixing the sample of the formation fluid being studied, located in the cavity of the cell body 26, which is carried out by rotating a magnetic mixer with a drive
[0144] 17.
[0145] In existing devices, mixing of the sample occurs due to, for example, transferring the sample from the main body of cell 26 to the additional one and back, passing through the tubes, the liquid and gas are mixed; linear movement of the mixer using magnetic fields; tilting the body of cell 26.
[0146] In the developed Device, a magnetic mixer is built into piston 20, which carries out mixing of the sample of the formation fluid being studied and ensures effective mixing of the sample, reducing the unmixed and dead volume of the sample of the formation fluid being studied.
[0147] The level of the sample of the formation fluid being studied is determined by analyzing the image from video camera 27.
[0148] Loading of the sample of the formation fluid being studied is carried out as follows:
[0149] 1. In the software of the control unit, the minimum calculated volume of free space inside the housing of cell 26 is set with the position of piston 20 as close as possible to viewing window 3.
[0150] 2. The cavity of the cell body 26 and all hoses and tubes connected to it are evacuated by connecting a vacuum pump (not shown in the figure) through the outlet port of the cell body 26, then the inlet 9 and outlet 10 valves are closed.
[0151] 3. Connect the first hydraulic port of the sample container to the external pump.
[0152] 4. Connect the second hydraulic port of the container with the sample of the formation fluid being studied to the input port of the cell body 26.
[0153] 5. Using an external pump, move a sample of the formation fluid being studied to the closed inlet valve 9 for loading into the cell body 26, using the constant design pressure maintenance mode.
[0154] 6. Open the inlet valve 9 for loading into the body of cell 26, ensuring the possibility of flow of the sample of the formation fluid being studied into the body of cell 26, and raise the pressure in the body of cell 26 with an external pump to the formation pressure.
[0155] 7. Transfer the sample of the formation fluid being studied into the housing of cell 26 in the mode of maintaining a constant design pressure, setting it in the software of the control unit computer, below the pressure of the sample of the formation fluid being studied in the container.
[0156] 8. The calculated volume of the sample of the formation fluid being studied is moved into the body of cell 26.
[0157] 9. After moving the sample of the formation fluid being studied into the body of cell 26, close the inlet valve 9. Sample in the body of cell 26.
[0158] After that, thermodynamic studies of the properties and phase behavior of reservoir fluids (gas or gas condensate) are carried out under reservoir conditions, carrying out test samples of the studied reservoir fluid depending on the task at hand, for example, a contact evaporation test Flash Liberation Test, also known as CME (Constant-Mass Expansion, or
[0159] Constant-Composition Expansion, PV test - Pressure-vs.- Volume:
[0160] - contact evaporation test, which is carried out on black or volatile oils, at a constant temperature (usually at the temperature of the reservoir). To carry out the test, a sample within 50-100 cm is loaded into the body of cell 26. 3single-phase oil sample (above the boiling point or saturation pressure). If necessary, the volume of the sample in the cell body 26 is reduced to compress the sample above the initial boiling point (saturation pressure) by means of the piston 20. Then the volume of the sample in the cell body 26 is expanded in stages by means of the piston 20, moving it. To bring the sample to equilibrium at each point in the volume, a built-in magnetic mixer is used in the piston 20. The data on the pressure, volume and temperature of the sample of the formation fluid being studied are measured by means of sensors and recorded for each point in the computer software of the control unit. If the sample of the formation fluid being studied contains dissolved gas, the pressure will be lower than the saturation pressure, the minimum pressure at which the gas remains dissolved in the oil, so that the oil remains in a single phase.At pressures below the boiling point, the total volume of the formation fluid sample becomes more compressible, so that the slope of the Pressure- vs.- Volume (PV) curve changes sharply from the boiling point. It is possible to measure the boiling point by plotting a straight line through several points above the boiling point using the software, and a second line through several points below the boiling point: the intersection of these lines is the boiling point. This is confirmed by observing the pressure at which the first gas bubbles in the formation fluid sample become visible in the viewing window 3.
[0161] If the sample of formation fluid being tested in the cell body 26 reaches the maximum calculated volume before the pressure becomes below the boiling point, then the test is performed again, starting with a smaller calculated initial sample volume. To do this, the sample volume is reduced, increasing the pressure above the boiling point, obtaining a single-phase fluid, then maintaining the pressure above the boiling point.
[0162] This is called constant mass expansion because the mass of the sample remains constant during the test: only the volume and pressure of the sample of the formation fluid being tested change, respectively. The inlet 9 and outlet 10 valves are not opened or closed during the process of obtaining the Pressure-Volume dependence, and no fluid is added to or removed from the cell body 26. The data acquisition control unit computer software allows an automated PV test to be carried out by entering test settings in the form of initial pressure and initial temperature, various criteria for determining the onset of equilibrium at each stage, and a Volume Ratio Table for determining each stage, which allows the test to be carried out completely automatically, without operator intervention;
[0163] - the Bubble-Point Test, which is part of the contact evaporation test described above;
[0164] - Differential Liberation Test, known as DV (Differential Vaporization), which is carried out on samples of black or volatile oil, at a constant temperature (usually at reservoir temperature).
[0165] This test is similar to the contact evaporation test described above, except that the gas released from the sample of formation fluid being tested is removed from the body of cell 26 when the pressure drops below the boiling point.
[0166] This is the same contact evaporation test above the boiling point of the fluid. But, at each stage the pressure and / or volume is below the boiling point, all the gas phase formed at this stage is removed from the cell body 26 at a constant pressure, until only single-phase oil (fully saturated, exactly at its boiling point) remains in the cell body 26. It is necessary to carefully remove all the gas, preventing its exit from the oil, by opening the outlet valve 10 of the cell body 26.
[0167] In this case, in the settings of the control program, it is necessary to select the Constant-Pressure mode, and observing in the viewing window 3 until the level of the sample of the studied formation fluid rises completely and completely close the outlet valve 10, which will stop the movement of the piston 20 at this moment.
[0168] This test enables the researcher to calculate the shrinkage factor, the gas-oil ratio (GOR), the oil density at various pressures, and the actual gas rejection factor. This test, like the contact vaporization test, is usually carried out in the cell body 26, isolated from the rest of the elements (inlet 9 and outlet 10 valves closed). Typically, the volume of gas removed at each stage should be measured at room temperature (ambient) and barometric pressure using an external device - a gasometer, and a sample of the gas should be taken for analysis of its composition and / or density at each stage;
[0169] - the Dew Point Test, known as Constant-Mass Expansion (CME), or Constant-Composition Expansion (PV), or Pressure-vs.-Volume (PV), carried out on gas or gas condensate.
[0170] The Dew Point test is performed on a gas or gas condensate sample at a constant temperature (usually at the reservoir temperature). To perform this test, the sample is loaded into the cell body 26 in the range of 50 to 200 cm 3gas. If necessary, the volume of the cell body 26 is reduced to compress the sample of the studied formation gas or gas condensate to an initial pressure that is higher than the maximum reservoir pressure. The volume of the cell body 26 is expanded by stepwise sampling of the studied formation gas or gas condensate with an external pump, while the magnetic mixer in the cell body 26 must be turned on to bring the gas or gas condensate to equilibrium at each point in the sample volume. The pressure, volume and temperature data are measured and recorded at each point in the sample volume. If the gas contains enough liquid, the pressure will at some point be reduced to the dew point (saturation pressure - the minimum pressure at which the fluid remains dissolved in the gas, and the gas sample is in a single-phase state). The dew point pressure, at a certain temperature, is measured by observing at which the first drop of liquid is visible in the viewing window.
[0171] If the pressure in the cell body 26 is reached at which the dew point does not occur, the test is repeated, starting with a smaller initial sample volume. To do this, the sample volume is reduced and compressed above its dew point to obtain a single-phase fluid, and then, maintaining the pressure above the dew point, a portion of the sample is removed from the cell body 26.
[0172] This is called Constant-Mass Expansion because the mass of the gas sample remains constant during the test: only the volume and pressure change, respectively. No valve 9 or 10 opens or closes, providing the Pressure-vs-Volume data.
[0173] Retrograde condensate fluid exhibits behavior in which liquid condensate may appear and then disappear as it passes through a pressure zone designated for this purpose. The Dew Point test can also be performed at constant pressure but varying temperature to measure the dew point temperature at that pressure. Many dry gases are so dry that they never exhibit a dew point, so no liquid droplets will be visible in the sapphire viewing window 3;
[0174] - Constant Volume Depletion test (known as CVD test, is performed on gas or gas condensate samples at a constant temperature (usually reservoir temperature), in an optional gas-gas condensate cell housing
[0175] 26 cell. It simulates the extraction of gas from a reservoir, leaving some amount of liquid condensate in the reservoir.
[0176] The apparatus, including the cell body 26, allows testing of samples of larger volumes than known. A gas sample is loaded into the cell body 26. If necessary, the volume of the cell body 26 is reduced to compress the fluid sample to an initial pressure above the maximum reservoir pressure. The volume of the cell body 26 is expanded in steps, with the magnetic mixer turned on to bring the sample to equilibrium at each point. The pressure, volume and temperature in the cell body 26 are measured and recorded for each data point. Pressure - Volume. At each Pressure and Volume step, gas is withdrawn from the cell body 26 at a constant pressure through the outlet valve 10 until the initial volume of the cell body 26 is reached. This is repeated in steps until the pressure decreases to atmospheric. The volume of any visible liquid is recorded for each step.
[0177] The test described is not a constant mass expansion because the mass of the gas decreases at each stage. The volume of gas removed at each stage should be measured at room temperature (ambient) and barometric pressure using a gasometer. Samples should be taken at each stage for compositional analysis and / or density determination.
[0178] Example.
[0179] The device was mounted with a 26 cell housing with a working volume of 400 cm 3 , wherein the cell body 26 with the sample withstood the operating pressure of up to 100 MPa and the operating temperature of up to 150 °C during the study. After the preparation and loading of the recombined sample into the cell body 26, the temperature is brought to the formation temperature of the sample being studied by compressing it using piston 20 and using the temperature control system.
[0180] Then the volume of the cell body 26 is expanded by means of the piston 20 in stages, the sample is brought to equilibrium by the mixer at each point of the volume, while mixing the sample mixture, the pressure is increased to the reservoir level. After bringing the sample to the reservoir thermobaric conditions, it is left for the calculated time without mixing in a state of rest and its phase state is assessed based on the image obtained from the video camera 27 and sent to the control unit with the computer. If there is no undissolved liquid phase in the cell body 26, then the recombined sample is considered similar to the initial reservoir sample and ready for further study. The presence of undissolved hydrocarbon liquid in the cell body 26 indicates the penetration of reservoir fluid in the liquid phase into the well or an error in determining the gas condensate coefficient.
[0181] After reaching the formation pressure inside the cell body 26, the pressure is slowly reduced by changing the volume by means of piston 20 to the maximum permissible increase in the volume of the cell body 26. Up to the moment of the onset of condensation, the sample medium inside the cell body 26 and the medium are in a homogeneous state. As soon as condensation begins, the medium inside the cell body 26 becomes non-homogeneous, which is visible in the image - a snapshot from the video camera 27. The thermobaric conditions (data on the pressure, volume and temperature of the sample), under which this change in the medium occurred, are measured by pressure sensors 7, temperature and recorded for each point in the volume of the cell body 26, the recording is performed by means of the software of the computer of the control unit as the conditions for the onset of the condensation process. The pressure and temperature of the sample are observed, at which the first gas bubbles in the sample can be seen in the viewing window 3 and, accordingly, filmed by the video camera 27.
[0182] The declared device can conduct preliminary PVT studies directly at the production site, which not only increases the speed of obtaining information on the sample, but also helps to solve technological problems of monitoring and optimizing the process of field development, while expanding the range of devices for PVT studies.

[0184] Thus, the proposed Device is distinguished by the reliability of its design, guarantees effective mixing of the sample throughout the entire volume of the cell body for an accurate assessment of the phase state of the sample in the cell body and determination of the volumes of the liquid phase under calculated conditions, allowing the successful completion of the technical tasks set during the study and expansion of the range of similar technical means.
