Abstract
Description
[0001] A NANO / QUANTUM PARTICLE-BASED METHOD FOR MODULATION, CONTROL, AND RETRIEVAL / RECOVERY OF PLASTICS, POLYMERS, AND COMPOSITES: NANOMAGNETIC PLASTICS AND POLYMER COMPOSITE MATERIALS
[0002] Technical Area
[0003] The present invention relates to all kinds of plastic structures (thermoset, thermoplastic elastomer), polymeric, hybrid or nanocomposites containing inorganic atoms, single or multicomponent biopolymers, natural or synthetic biodegradable structures, and all polymer formulations in addition to these definitions. It defines the modulation of barrels, sheets, sacks, carrier materials, strips, fibers, or similar forms produced in different shapes and geometries in large volumes (bags, boxes, containers, or however they are produced) or micro / nano plastic fiber (fragmented small structures) with magnetic particles. In addition, it describes the modulation, recovery, and modification methods developed and applied to prevent plastic, polymer, and composite structures from polluting the environment and environment of soil, water, or similar living forms by different methods. The method defines a novel way for each polymeric structure, a new magnetoplastic structure, and a method that can be applied during synthesis, post-synthesis, modification, or pre-, intermediate, or post-processing to add different properties to the polymeric structures and controlled, specially synthesized nano and quantum particles, or magnetic properties.
[0004] Background of the Invention
[0005] Polymer structures are materials formed by assembling immense structures called macromolecules and are composed of building blocks called monomers. Polymers such as protein structures, cellulose, and nucleic acids can occur in many variances, including living organisms. In addition, only organic but also inorganic structures can have polymeric properties such as diamond or quartz. Synthetically, many structures, such as cement, rubber, glass, paper. They can also be assumed to be made of polymers because they have a repeating monomeric structure.
[0006] Since polymers generally comprise monomers, the type and number of monomers can vary. Therefore, polymers formed by more than one monomeric structure instead of a single type of monomer can also be called copolymers. In general, the solid parts of plants are composed of polymers that are roughly structures such as cellulose, lignin, and resins. Many inorganic polymers also contain carbon, for example, graphite or diamond, but they have different bonding methods to each other. Natural polymers include proteins, saccharides, or starch. Through some polymer reactions, the properties of polymeric structures, such as hardness, flexibility, reactivity, and biodegradability, can be easily changed starting from the monomers or precursors.
[0007] Polymers are frequently used synthetically in today's industries. For example, there are polyvinylchloride, polystyrene, polypropylene, and polyethylene structures synthesized by the radical polymerization method, as well as polymeric structures with a very general name such as polyurethane, polyester polyamide obtained by condensation mechanism. In addition to the synthesis route and starting materials, temperature, concentration, catalyst, and additional additives can significantly change the properties of the final polymeric material.
[0008] All single-use or multi-use examples of polymeric structures or composites, whether composites or not can remain in nature for very long periods without degrading and decomposing into their monomers. Since synthetic polymers or composites do not degrade like natural polymers, a significant problem called plastic pollution (or microplastic pollution) occurs. In broader terms, the failure of simple hydrolysis or catalyzed degradation causes synthetic polymers — plastics and composites to cause pollution in nature. As one of the sub-units of this general pollution, microplastics are known to be detected in water, nature, soil, air, in the bodies of animals in nature, and even in edible fish in the seas, in a way that can almost even pass to humans.
[0009] With all this information, the technique described in the patent, with small (nm or micrometer in size) magnetic particles added to organic or organic, synthetic or natural additional or condensation polymers, composites or plastics, the obtained nanomagnetic plastics or composites can be modulated in the desired way (for tasks such as transportation, collection orientation, agglomeration) and even a solution is offered for microplastics with this method. It does not matter whether the nanomagnetic structures or microplastics obtained here are from materials used in air, land, nature, water, or even in space technologies. With magnetic controllability, any composition and chemical structure in an environment can be guided by magnets for the desired removal, collection transport, or other modulations. All plastics used in space technologies can be retained, transported, or prevented from spreading in such antigravity environments, and even space debris based on plastic polymers or composites can be collected.
[0010] Environmental plastic pollution has been reported as one of the most prominent problems in the world since the 2000s and threatens human health to a great extent. Especially with plastic and polymer structures, humanity's production of tools and equipment can be considered the leading cause of environmental pollution. However, the explosive rise of plastic and polymer technology, especially after the Second World War, brought previously unforeseen problems. Although plastics, composites, polymers, and other similar sectors are used in daily purposes for reasons such as inertness, lightness, easy availability, ease of processing conditions, the fact that they have very little environmental degradability, that they cannot be digested by animals and indirectly by humans despite accidental passage into the digestive systems of animals in nature, that they will pollute soil and forest environments, and that a large amount of them are obtained from petroleum products have created problems that need to be intensively considered. Analytical data has revealed the presence of polymeric and plastic wastes in Antarctica, oceans, deserts, water sources, agricultural areas, bodies of ecological creatures, and humans, for example, through seafood. By this patent application, nonmagnetic plastics can be obtained by the addition, and homogeneous dispersion of structures such as iron or suitable steel powder for nanosized and coarser structures, and the recovery, transportation, and other necessary modulations of these structures in any environment can be provided by strong magnets.
[0011] As one of the essential advantages of the nanomagnetic plastic solution, nano and microplastic wastes originate from clothing, plastic bags, cosmetics, polymeric bottles, and known plastic (thermoplastic, thermoset, elastomer) composite, inorganic atom-containing polymers (polyazan, polyamide, silicon-containing, aluminum- containing or transition metals or any other element of the periodic table included in the polymer structure) and also phthalates, bromine-containing diphenyl ether structures, tetrabromobisphenol, et cetera, are passed to nature as waste together with microplastics, which may also be in the form of sedimentation. Microplastics are generally divided into primary and secondary groups. Primary structures can generally be defined as microspheres in personal care products and plastic pellettype structures in daily plastic production. Nylon or general polyamide-type synthetic textile products with low or high-density polymeric structures can, for example, reach the parts of personal care products where city water and typical wastewater are present through washing, or they can occur through the accidental spread of industrial productions in unintended ways, they can occur when plastics break during abrasion processes and pass into water environments, they can occur when synthetic textiles are broken down by washing. In addition, secondary microplastics are usually spread by different methods, such as weathering, corrosion, sunlight degradation, wind movement, and abrasion of polymeric products with more extensive structures and geometry.
[0012] The fact that microplastics are persistent and non-degradable and accumulate and come together into an irreversible structure and that almost one billion tons of plastics are predicted to reach the entire world environment 2050 in the 21st century shows the seriousness of the situation.
[0013] This patent aims to synthesize quantum particles / nanoparticles and control their surface properties, add them to the intended polymeric or composite structure in the specified proportions, distribute them homogeneously, control the polymer / nanoparticle interface through this homogeneous structure, and transport the materials through the final material obtained with the resulting magnetoelastic. The course explains the scientific results of the process, its description, and its use of the process, which allows the process to melt, modulate surface properties, capture, separate, collect, and transport in large sizes or micro-nano plastic structures that become waste in nature, in water, in other environments and even in space and provides a way to solve problems such as microplastic pollution.
[0014] This invention also presents engineered, nano and quantum particles synthesized with specific features, iron or steel powders for each polymeric structure, single component, or multicomponent, which has the opportunity of being applied during the necessary synthesis, post-synthesis modification or in the pre-, intermediate or postprocessing moment into to the polymeric structures forming a new plastic structure and method with novel properties. These nanoparticles or iron and steel powders can be used as additives in polymers, as adhesives, as small-sized strips or unique shapes, as labels, or in similar applications. The same method is also used in the recycling of waste materials (including rubber, polymeric preservation, wrapping, storage, and transporting the polymeric, composite materials, and reclaimed materials) by methods such as compression, pressing, heat treatment, reshaping, and their interaction with nano or quantum particles are the same.
[0015] This interaction enables the recycling of plastic systems, which are found as waste in nature, with strong magnets, and therefore, environmental pollution and polymeric wastes in different sizes (from nanoplastic structures, fiber, fiber or small pieces) microplastic or nano-micro structures, the dimensions of which are up to km on the micrometer. It even covers all polymeric productions of larger sizes. In this way, all processes to be carried out for all kinds of chemical and physical processing, transportation, marking, labeling, collection, distribution, melting, or physical and chemical transformation of the structures within the scope of all these plastics (all organic or inorganic plastics), recycling of structures, will be possible to for collecting / recovering the mentioned nanomagnetic materials.

[0022] The present invention describes the synthesis of quantum particles / nanoparticles for inorganic or organic addition or condensation polymers in such a way as to provide the highest magnetization required and the process for their homogeneous dispersion in such a way that the production method does not have any limiting effect. In addition, the structures that can be formed by adding iron, steel powders, or other similar additives (sieved, ground, filtered, or other size-reducing methods) that can impart magnetic properties to plastic or polymer structures are also described.
[0023] The invention relates to the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles ranging in size from a few nanometers to micrometers in order to modulate polymers, plastics, and composites, to perform transport, collection, recovery, and, most importantly, to eliminate damage to nature, and to control their interfaces, and then to obtain magnetically programmed structures in a controlled manner. This invention describes the concept of magnetic nanoplastics; a) describes the synthesis and characterization of nano or quantum plastic, composite, polymer structures whose magnetic properties can be modulated by particles ranging in size from nm to micrometers, as well as the synthesis and characterization of iron, steel, or other suitable metal powders that can function similarly after adjusting their size
[0024] Iron oxides or hydroxides can have many different crystal structures and morphologies. Especially for the synthesis of nanoparticles or quantum particles with magnetite (cubic) crystal structure, precursors for example (iron acetates, ferric chlorides, ferric sulfates) with Fe2+ and Fe3+ valence, with or without crystal water, iron gluconates, iron citrates, iron nitrates, iron chlorates, iron perchlorates, iron carboxylates (for example oleate or stearate), iron oxalate, iron acetylacetonate, iron succinate, iron glycinate or glycinate, iron tartrate, and the similar structures can be mixed in highly basic media in a molar ratio of 1 :2 molar ratio (or with minor modifications).
[0025] One of the most critical points during the synthesis is that the hydroxide structures that provide basicity provide the highest magnetic saturation at a specific ratio according to the iron molarity. Therefore, in the synthesis environment, when the basic molarity is in a certain amount, which ensures the formation of iron hydroxides in the desired structure, the highest magnetic saturation is obtained reproducibly in the particles obtained Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, or fully soluble Mg, Sr, Ba, or Ca hydroxides can be used for the highly basic molarity. Obtained products can be controlled, as shown in Figure 1 , Figure 2, and Figure 3. b) hydrophobic, hydrophilic, or amphiphilic surface modifications can be applied to nano and quantum particles for the structures dispersed in polymeric formulations with agglomeration-free features. In order to make the interfaces of polymeric structures more suitable for interaction with nanoparticles, short or long-chain, hydrophilic, or hydrophobic surface modifications can be performed on the surface. c) It covers the dispersion of quantum and nanoparticles, iron, steel, or similar size- adjusted powders in desired polymer, plastic, and composite structures by mechanical mixing, sonication, thorax type mixing, mechanical mixing in the mill, ball (metal, plastic, glass, ceramic or another type of disperser balls) mixing in a mill, microwave method or all similar methods. At this point, it is necessary to add nanoparticles to the polymeric structure or composite in a controlled manner. In this way, the homogeneity of the nanoparticle and its interaction with the polymer are adjusted according to the specified methods. d) refers to the ability of particles for dispersion to be attached to the polymer structure by a covalent method or by condensation if desired to provide a better homogeneous property at the polymer interface after special modification, if necessary. For example, in carboxylic acid-based polymerization reactions, a better interface is obtained by attaching or adding this carboxylic acid to the surface of the nanoparticles. e) can be bonded by hydrophobic, hydrophilic, or hydrogen bonding methods. In this way -OH groups on the surface of the nanoparticles obtained can interact with other existing structures with similarly hydrophobic, hydrophilic, or hydrogen bonds f) this refers to the control of polymers, plastics, and composites modulated with magnetic nano / quantum particles by magnets. These magnets can be of any shape and size, natural, Nd assisted, or electromagnets used for simple laboratory experiments. A particular extension can be used in oceans, rivers, lakes, and other water regions g) it includes how such nanomagnetic plastics can be physically and chemically controlled and some example applications; for example, it has been demonstrated that polymer structures can be made even after the polymer is formed, while polymerization starts from monomers
[0026] The invention also provides quantum or nanomagnetic polymeric and nanocomposite structures that can be used as gels by changing their formulation and production so that strong magnets can moderate them. Also, the steps for recovery, modulation, and recollection of the nanomagnetic polymers, plastics, and nanocomposites can be summarized as follows;
[0027] - particles with nano or quantum dimensions and a high degree of magnetization (the synthesis of these particles is achieved with different precursors, in highly basic media, in different quantities, and specific mole ratios), as mentioned. For larger and coarser structures, in addition to synthetic nanostructures, iron or suitable steel powders are used after being ground to the appropriate size and pre-treated modification, surface, and shape modulation if necessary;
[0028] - Quantum particle / nanoparticle synthesis for inorganic or organic, addition or condensation polymers, and for producing nanomagnetic plastics with iron, suitable steel, or similar powdered structures, with the highest magnetization required and their homogeneous dispersion. Starting from the +2 and +3 precursors of iron compounds to prevent environmental and micro / nanoplastic pollution, and also shaping, pouring, heating, melting, transportation, filling, transportation from one place to another, collection in the form of waste in nature, collection from water surfaces may be modulated for these nanomagnetic plastics. Synthesis of iron oxide nanostructures with high magnetic saturation by forming a basic environment from the mentioned iron salts compounds
[0029] -The ability to use metal iron and steel powders reduced to appropriate sizes and similar structures in plastic, polymer, or composite structures under appropriate conditions, -If necessary, the surfaces of the obtained magnetic structures can be modified with hydrophilic, hydrophobic, amphiphilic, or other groups,
[0030] -In addition to the magnetic structures obtained synthetically, the structures obtained from suitable types of iron metal steel or similar sources can be classified and used using appropriate sieves, and their oxidation properties can be reduced by keeping these structures in oil-like anti-oxidative structures.
[0031] It is the dispersion of micro / nanostructured particles into all synthetic, natural, condensation, addition, and similar polymeric structures for quantum-sized, nanostructured, or metal powders obtained synthetically or by natural elimination methods. The pre-dispersion of polymeric structures or particles in a suitable solvent or gel-forming environment is carried out for the dispersion system. Then, the appropriate interfacial structure is added to the polymer. It defines the addition of magnetic particles to this polymer mixture after heating the synthetic or natural condensation or addition polymer, if necessary, using appropriate solvent or solvent mixtures. If desired, 2-K polymers or multiple copolymers can be used by removing the monomers, interacting with the particles with or without added solvent, and curing them according to the required curing method. In this state, if desired, it can be used as a coating, thin film, or undefined geometries, and additionally, nanoplastics of a certain length, size, thickness, and shape can be obtained using molds. The polymer is sometimes thermally or radially cured after the particles are added to the polymeric material (starting from precursors or monomers). After the curing and polymerization process, the polymer can be obtained in powder form or small particles. This polymer (in powder or particle form in different sizes) can be collected again and used by secondary heating, melting, molding, and shaping. Before the particles are added to the polymer structure to obtain nanoplastics, they can be adapted to the polymer structure as desired by using the desired temperature, environment, and liquids. Magnetic particle structures can also be added to fiber structures obtained by the electrospinning method or other standard fiber-forming methods, transforming them into the nanoplastic class. This way, fibers can be transformed into the nanoplastic concept with particles adhered to fiber surfaces as a solution to microplastic / nanoplastic pollution. In this way, all fiber structures can be transformed with similar methods. The demonstration of how magnets can collect nanomagnetic plastics back is shown in Figure 4, and the SEM image of the interaction of nanoparticle / quantum particle structures with fiber surfaces is shown in Figure 5.
[0032] The invention can also be produced as a gel by changing the formulations of quantum or nanomagnetic polymeric and nanocomposite structures and can be modulated with strong magnets. As mentioned earlier, to obtain a nanomagnetic plastic, The synthesis of particles with nano or quantum dimensions with a high degree of magnetization is achieved using different starting materials, in basic media, in different amounts, and in specific molar ratios. In addition to synthetic nanostructures, for more extensive and coarser structures, iron or suitable steel powders are used after being brought to appropriate sizes, and, if necessary, pretreatments (modification, surface, and shape modulation) are applied.
[0033] Organic or inorganic-based polymer and nanocomposite structures obtained by any type of polymerization (condensation, addition) and regardless of their side properties (molecular weight, relative density, functional side group status, and amount), can be co-dispersed with the nanoparticles by physical methods or during standard paint formulation production processes. In certain conditions, thermal, optical, mechanical, surface-related, and other similar additives required to stabilize the polymer can later provide more valuable opportunities for the final material. Besides, it might include additives that provide extra stabilization properties (paint additives, functional additives, strengthening additives, or additives added for particular purposes).
[0034] The invention generally relates to the stabilization of nanosized particles in polymeric or other media, including side attachments similar to the polymeric structure, polymer groups adhered to the surface, diblock copolymer systems, adhesion of the polymer to the surface by wrapping method, coating of the surface with different and opposite charges, protection of the surface with structures having amphiphilic or other similar properties. Magnetic nanoparticles can be obtained by solution reactions, precipitation, co-precipitation, thermal degradation, microwave method, polyol method, hot injection method, solvothermal / hydrothermal methods or ball milling method, etching method, and plasma method. These methods generally represent one of the top-down and bottom-up methods. This method can obtain surfaces of the desired size, magnetic properties, controllability, and hydrophilic, hydrophobic, or amphiphilic surfaces.
[0035] In this way, these quantum particles or nanoparticles, which interact with polymeric structures at the molecular level, lead to the formation of quantum / nano magnetic plastics or enable the production of a new type of modulable magnetoplastics (nanomagnetic plastics).
[0036] In particular, metal iron or steel powders of the appropriate type can be added to the mentioned plastic or plastic forming and polymer structures with the exact mechanism after selection, size reduction, and sieving processes and after their dimensions are brought to the desired level. This example may be more suitable, especially for large structures of plastics.
[0037] Polymers can be preheated up to 200-300 °C by analyzing their properties depending on optimization and curing conditions. This way, powder or small micron-sized particles can be mixed / dispersed more homogeneously in these viscosity-adjusted structures.
[0038] Based on the invention, iron precursors with +2 and +3 valence are reacted in the medium homogeneously with required mole ratios. Then, the solution pH is increased with strong bases in the optimal ratio, forming iron oxide species according to the following reactions. Positive observations of the reaction include a short cooling time of 15-20 minutes, if necessary, and also the color of the reaction medium turning brown / black,
[0039] Fe2++ 2Fe3++ 8OH' -► Fe3O4+4H2O
[0040] Fe3++ 3OH' -► Fe(OH)3
[0041] Fe2++ 2OH' -► Fe(OH)2
[0042] Fe(OH)2+ Fe(OH)3Fe3O4+4H2O
[0043] After obtaining the nanoparticles, they are washed and dried with solvents such as water, acetone, and ethanol. They can be mixed / dispersed and used in the desired physical state of the polymer reaction by the initiator or polymerized structure in ratios determined according to the polymer / composite structure. Pre-treatment, surface modification, and pre-dispersion can be performed in appropriate solvents. In this text, the preferred field of the application of the invention is clearly stated.
