Description

Method and system for providing information on ground impact by a golf club

[0001] The present invention relates to a method and system for providing information regarding ground impact by a golf club.

[0002] Recently, with the increase in leisure time and the development of the golf industry, technologies for estimating (or analyzing) various information related to the golf swing are being developed.

[0003] Golf is a sport in which a user (e.g., a golfer) swings a golf club to send a golf ball to a target location. Therefore, if the head of the golf club strikes the ground during the golf swing, it can have a significant impact on the outcome of the golf swing (e.g., loss of distance).

[0004] One example of a conventional method for analyzing a golf swing involves using a camera to capture images (or videos) of a golfer's swing posture and analyzing the captured images (or videos). However, this method fails to consider the pressure exerted by the golf club on the ground during the swing, limiting its ability to specifically analyze the golf swing and provide feedback.

[0005] Accordingly, the inventor(s) of the present invention propose a technology that enables specific information regarding the quality of a golf shot to be provided to a user by generating ground impact information related to the ground impact of a golf club during a golf swing.

[0006] The purpose of the present invention is to solve all of the problems of the above-mentioned prior art.

[0007] In addition, the present invention has another object of obtaining at least one of first information related to pressure applied by a golf club to the ground and second information related to the position of a golf ball, and generating ground impact information related to ground impact of a golf club during a golf swing by referring to at least one of the first information and the second information.

[0008] In addition, another object of the present invention is to provide specific information regarding the quality of a golf shot to a user.

[0009] In addition, another object of the present invention is to provide the user with appropriate feedback regarding his or her golf swing by comparing ground impact information according to the user's golf swing with pre-stored guide information.

[0010] A representative configuration of the present invention to achieve the above purpose is as follows.

[0011] According to one aspect of the present invention, a method is provided, comprising the steps of obtaining at least one of first information associated with pressure applied by a golf club to the ground and second information associated with a position of a golf ball, and generating ground impact information associated with a ground impact of the golf club during a golf swing by referring to at least one of the first information and the second information.

[0012] According to another aspect of the present invention, a system is provided, including an information acquisition unit that acquires at least one of first information related to pressure applied by a golf club to the ground and second information related to a position of a golf ball, and an information generation unit that generates ground impact information related to ground impact of the golf club during a golf swing by referring to at least one of the first information and the second information.

[0013] In addition, a non-transitory computer-readable recording medium recording another method for implementing the present invention, another system, and a computer program for executing the method are further provided.

[0014] According to the present invention, at least one of first information related to pressure applied to the ground by a golf club and second information related to the position of a golf ball is obtained, and ground impact information related to ground impact of a golf club during a golf swing is generated by referring to at least one of the first information and the second information.

[0015] Additionally, according to the present invention, specific information regarding the quality of a golf shot can be provided to the user.

[0016] In addition, according to the present invention, by comparing ground impact information according to the user's golf swing with pre-stored guide information, appropriate feedback regarding the golf swing can be provided to the user.

[0017] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing the overall configuration of a system for providing information on ground impact by a golf club according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0036] In this specification, a golf swing may refer to a swing motion intended to send a golf ball toward a target point. Here, a golf swing may be divided into eight stages: address, takeaway, back swing, top of swing, down swing, impact, follow through, and finish. However, the above eight stages are merely examples, and it is apparent to those skilled in the art that a golf swing motion may be divided in various ways.

[0037] Composition of the entire system

[0038] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing the overall configuration of a system for providing information on ground impact by a golf club according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0039] As illustrated in FIG. 1, the entire system according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a communication network (100), an information provision system (200), and a device (300).

[0040] First, the communication network (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can be configured regardless of the communication mode such as wired communication or wireless communication, and can be configured with various communication networks such as a local area network (LAN), a metropolitan area network (MAN), and a wide area network (WAN). Preferably, the communication network (100) referred to herein may be the well-known Internet or the World Wide Web (WWW). However, the communication network (100) is not necessarily limited thereto, and may include at least a portion of a well-known wired or wireless data communication network, a well-known telephone network, or a well-known wired or wireless television communication network.

[0041] For example, the communication network (100) may be a wireless data communication network that implements conventional communication methods such as WiFi communication, WiFi-Direct communication, Long Term Evolution (LTE) communication, 5G communication, Bluetooth communication (including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication), infrared communication, ultrasonic communication, etc., at least in part. As another example, the communication network (100) may be an optical communication network that implements conventional communication methods such as LiFi (Light Fidelity), etc., at least in part.

[0042] Next, the information providing system (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention may perform a function of obtaining at least one of first information related to pressure applied to the ground by a golf club and second information related to the position of a golf ball, and generating ground impact information related to ground impact of a golf club during a golf swing by referring to at least one of the first information and the second information.

[0043] The configuration and function of the information provision system (200) according to the present invention will be described in detail below.

[0044] Next, a device (300) according to one embodiment of the present invention is a digital device that includes a function for communicating after connecting to an information provision system (200), and any digital device that has a memory means, a microprocessor, and a computing capability, such as a smart phone, a tablet, a smart watch, a smart band, smart glasses, a desktop computer, a notebook computer, a workstation, a PDA, a web pad, a mobile phone, etc., can be adopted as the device (300) according to the present invention.

[0045] In particular, the device (300) may include an application (not shown) that supports a user to receive functions according to the present invention from the information provision system (200). Such an application may be downloaded from the information provision system (200) or an external application distribution server (not shown). Meanwhile, the nature of such an application may be generally similar to the information acquisition unit (210), information generation unit (220), information comparison unit (230), communication unit (240), and control unit (250) of the information provision system (200), which will be described later. Here, at least a part of the application may be replaced with a hardware device or firmware device that can perform functions substantially identical to or equivalent thereto, as necessary.

[0046] Composition of the information provision system

[0047] Below, the internal configuration and functions of each component of the information provision system (200) that performs important functions for implementing the present invention will be examined.

[0048] FIG. 2 is a drawing showing in detail the internal configuration of an information provision system (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0049] As illustrated in FIG. 2, an information providing system (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention may be configured to include an information acquisition unit (210), an information generation unit (220), an information comparison unit (230), a communication unit (240), and a control unit (250). According to one embodiment of the present invention, at least some of the information acquisition unit (210), the information generation unit (220), the information comparison unit (230), the communication unit (240), and the control unit (250) may be program modules that communicate with an external system (not shown). These program modules may be included in the information providing system (200) in the form of an operating system, an application program module, or other program modules, and may be physically stored in various known memory devices. In addition, these program modules may also be stored in a remote memory device that can communicate with the information providing system (200). Meanwhile, these program modules include, but are not limited to, routines, subroutines, programs, objects, components, data structures, etc. that perform specific tasks or execute specific abstract data types, as described below, according to the present invention.

[0050] Meanwhile, although the information provision system (200) has been described as above, this description is exemplary, and it is obvious to those skilled in the art that at least some of the components or functions of the information provision system (200) may be realized within a device (300) or a server (not shown) or included within an external system (not shown) as needed.

[0051] First, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention can perform a function of acquiring at least one of first information related to the pressure applied by the golf club to the ground and second information regarding the position of the golf ball.

[0052] Specifically, the first information according to one embodiment of the present invention may mean information related to the pressure applied by the golf club to the ground, and the second information according to one embodiment of the present invention may mean information related to the position of the golf ball.

[0053] For example, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention can acquire at least one of the first information and the second information through a sensor.

[0054] For example, at least one of the first information and the second information according to one embodiment of the present invention may be acquired from at least one pressure sensor that can be placed on the ground. Here, the pressure sensor according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a sensor that performs the function of converting the pressure applied to the sensor into an output signal.

[0055] FIG. 3 is a diagram exemplarily illustrating a situation in which first information and second information are acquired according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0056] Referring to FIG. 3, the first information (410) and the second information (420) according to one embodiment of the present invention can be obtained from a pressure sensor placed on the ground (for example, a pressure sensor in the form of a mat, which can perform a function of converting pressure (or force) applied to a specific area of the mat into an output signal corresponding to a specific coordinate).

[0057] Continuing with reference to FIG. 3, the first information (410) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include at least one of information regarding a position at which a golf club strikes the ground and information regarding a pressure at which the golf club strikes the ground.

[0058] For example, when a golf club hits the ground during a golf swing by a user according to an embodiment of the present invention, the information acquisition unit (210) may acquire first information from a pressure sensor that can be placed on the ground. Here, information about the position at which the golf club according to an embodiment of the present invention hits the ground may include coordinate information acquired from the pressure sensor that can be placed on the ground. In addition, information about the pressure at which the golf club according to an embodiment of the present invention hits the ground may include a pressure value (e.g., a pressure value that can be measured in units of Pascal (Pa)) corresponding to the coordinate information acquired from the pressure sensor that can be placed on the ground. Meanwhile, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that information about the pressure at which the golf club according to an embodiment of the present invention hits the ground does not necessarily need to be pressure information corresponding to a specific coordinate, and may also be a pressure value measured as a scalar value. In addition, the first information according to an embodiment of the present invention may mean information about force (e.g., a physical quantity that can be expressed in units of Newton (N)) rather than pressure.

[0059] For another example, a golf club strike against the ground according to one embodiment of the present invention may strike a specific point or region of the ground. Here, when a golf club strikes a region of the ground according to one embodiment of the present invention, the pressure distribution may differ among the regions of the ground where the strike occurred. Accordingly, the first information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding the distribution of pressure applied by the golf club to the ground.

[0060] FIG. 4 is a diagram exemplarily illustrating a situation in which first information and second information are acquired according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0061] Referring to FIG. 4, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention can acquire first information through a pressure sensor (510) and second information through an image sensor (520). That is, the first information and the second information according to one embodiment of the present invention can be acquired from different sensors.

[0062] For example, referring to FIG. 3, if both the first information (410) and the second information (420) are acquired from pressure sensors placed on the ground, synchronization of the coordinate information may not be necessary. However, referring to FIG. 4, if the first information and the second information according to one embodiment of the present invention are acquired from different sensors, in order to generate ground impact information, which will be described later, the first reference coordinate associated with the first information and the second reference coordinate associated with the second information may need to be synchronized (e.g., linked) with each other. Therefore, according to one embodiment of the present invention, in response to the first information and the second information being acquired from different sensors, the first reference coordinate information included in the first information and the second reference coordinate information included in the second information may be synchronized. Therefore, according to the present invention, information regarding the relative positional relationship between the position at which the golf club strikes the ground and the position of the golf ball can be included in the ground impact information, which will be described later.

[0063] For another example, referring to FIG. 4, both the first information (410) and the second information (420) may be acquired from the image sensor (520). Here, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention acquires information on a change in the shape of a mat placed on the ground (e.g., information on a change in the shape of the mat due to a golf club striking the ground) as the first information from the image sensor (520), and acquires second information on the position of the golf ball, thereby acquiring both the first information and the second information.

[0064] Meanwhile, it should be apparent to those skilled in the art that at least one of the first information and the second information according to one embodiment of the present invention can be acquired from various sensors within a range capable of achieving the purpose of the present invention, such as a radar sensor or a flat sensor.

[0065] Next, the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can perform a function of generating ground impact information associated with the ground impact of the golf club during a golf swing by referring to at least one of the first information and the second information.

[0066] Specifically, the ground impact of a golf club according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a ground impact that may occur during a user's golf swing to strike a golf ball. For example, the ground impact of a golf club according to one embodiment of the present invention may exclude a ground impact that may occur when the golf club contacts the ground during the user's preparation for a golf swing, and may only include a ground impact that occurs during a golf swing.

[0067] In addition, the ground impact information generated by the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention may mean information related to the ground impact of the golf club during a golf swing.

[0068] For example, ground impact information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding the relative positional relationship between the position of the golf ball and the position at which the golf club strikes the ground. For a specific example, ground impact information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding at least one of the direction in which the ground impact occurred based on the position of the golf ball (e.g., backward, forward, right, or left based on the position of the golf ball) and the distance at which the ground impact occurred based on the position of the golf ball (e.g., a distance of 10 cm based on the position of the golf ball).

[0069] Meanwhile, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further acquire third information regarding at least one of the type of golf club and the type of golf shot, and the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further generate ground impact information by referring to the third information. Here, the third information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding at least one of the type of golf club and the type of golf shot.

[0070] For example, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention can acquire third information from an external system (not shown) or a user's input. For a specific example, the user according to one embodiment of the present invention can provide information about the type of golf club currently being used (e.g., driver) and information about the type of golf shot to be practiced (e.g., tee shot, pitch shot, chip shot, bunker shot, flop shot, draw shot, fade shot, straight shot, etc.) to the information providing system (200), and the information acquisition unit (210) can acquire the corresponding information as third information.

[0071] For another example, when the information providing system (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention is linked with a virtual golf simulator (not shown), the information acquisition unit (210) may acquire information about the type of golf club the user is currently using (e.g., driver) and information about the type of golf shot the user is trying to swing (e.g., tee shot) from the virtual golf simulator.

[0072] For another example, when the information providing system (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention is linked with a virtual golf simulator, the information obtaining unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention may, during the game progress on the simulator, refer to at least one of the user's position on the field, the target position (e.g., the position of the hole cup), topographic information (e.g., information that the current swing position is a bunker, information that a bunker exists between the user's position and the target position, etc.), and weather information (e.g., information about wind direction or wind speed) to determine at least one of the type of golf club to be recommended to the user and the type of golf shot, and may also obtain information about the type of golf shot as third information. For example, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention may, during a game on a simulator, refer to information that the target location is 470 yards (approximately 429 meters) from the user's location on the field and that the user is currently located at the teeing ground, determine that the golf club to be recommended to the user is a driver, and that the type of golf shot to be recommended to the user is a tee shot, and acquire information that the tee shot is made with a driver as third information.

[0073] As another example, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention may acquire third information from an image sensor. Specifically, the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention may detect a golf club head from the image sensor and, by referring to the detection result, acquire information regarding the type of golf club as third information.

[0074] Additionally, the third information according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include contextual information. Here, the contextual information according to one embodiment of the present invention may be acquired from a system external to the information provision system (200), but may also be acquired from at least one sensor. Here, the contextual information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include at least one of information regarding the user's physical condition (e.g., the user's height, arm length, leg length, etc.) and information regarding the difficulty level of the golf club being used by the user (e.g., a beginner's club, an intermediate club, an advanced club, etc.).

[0075] Additionally, the third information according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include at least one of information about a golf shot (e.g., speed information of a golf ball, spin information of a golf ball, etc.) and information about the movement of a golf club (e.g., speed information of a golf club, information about a face angle of a golf club, etc.).

[0076] Additionally, the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can generate ground impact information by further referring to third information.

[0077] For example, ground impact information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding a portion of a golf club associated with a ground impact. Here, the ground impact information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information indicating that, in a situation where a golf club strikes the ground, the ground impact occurred through contact with at least one portion of the toe, leading edge, sole, heel, and bounce of the head portion.

[0078] For example, if the first information according to one embodiment of the present invention includes information that the distribution of pressure striking the ground is long in the horizontal direction and narrow in the vertical direction, and the third information includes information that the type of golf club is a 7 iron and the type of golf shot is an approach shot, the information generating unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can generate ground striking information that the part of the golf club associated with striking the ground is the leading edge part.

[0079] As another specific example, if the first information according to one embodiment of the present invention includes information that the distribution of pressure striking the ground has an elliptical distribution, and the location where the golf club strikes the ground is outside the location of the golf ball, the information generating unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can generate ground striking information that the part of the golf club associated with striking the ground is the toe part.

[0080] As another specific example, if the first information according to one embodiment of the present invention includes information that the distribution of pressure hitting the ground is long in the horizontal direction and narrow in the vertical direction, the second information includes information about the location of the golf ball, and the ground impact occurred at a point a predetermined distance away in the opposite direction of the target based on the golf ball, and the third information includes information that the type of golf club is a sand wedge and the type of golf shot is a bunker shot, the information generating unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can generate ground impact information that the part of the golf club associated with the ground impact is a bounce.

[0081] However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the method for estimating a part of a golf club according to one embodiment of the present invention can be variously changed within the scope that can achieve the purpose of the present invention, and that the part of the golf club associated with the ground impact can be estimated more precisely by additionally acquiring the point of impact of the golf ball from the image sensor (520).

[0082] Meanwhile, the first information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding the time at which the ground impact occurs, and the second information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include information regarding the time at which the position of the golf ball begins to change (e.g., the time of impact). Here, the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention may calculate an interval between the two points in time based on the time at which the ground impact occurs and the time at which the position of the golf ball begins to change, and may further refer to the interval between the two points in time to generate the ground impact information. For example, if the interval between the time at which the ground impact occurs and the time at which the position of the golf ball begins to change according to one embodiment of the present invention is longer than a preset time, the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention may generate the ground impact information indicating that the ground impact is excessive and the loss of distance is large (e.g., the swing speed is reduced and the loss of distance is large).

[0083] Furthermore, the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can generate ground impact information including information about a golf shot (e.g., a thick shot or a thin shot) by referring to at least one of first information about the position at which the golf club strikes the ground and the time at which the ground is struck and second information about the position of the golf ball and the time at which the position of the golf ball begins to change. For example, the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention can generate ground impact information including information that the golf shot was thick when the position at which the golf club strikes the ground and the position of the golf ball are less than a predetermined distance.

[0084] Next, the information comparison unit (230) according to one embodiment of the present invention can perform a function of comparing ground impact information with pre-stored guide information.

[0085] Specifically, the pre-stored guide information according to one embodiment of the present invention may include at least one of guide information regarding pressure applied to the ground, guide information regarding the position of a golf ball, information regarding the type of golf club, and information regarding the type of golf shot.

[0086] Additionally, the information comparison unit (230) according to one embodiment of the present invention can perform a function of comparing ground impact information with pre-stored guide information and generating feedback information that can be provided for the user.

[0087] For example, it can be assumed that the information acquisition unit (210) according to one embodiment of the present invention has acquired first information that the pressure of the golf club striking the ground is 800 kPa and second information about the position of the golf ball, and the information generation unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes information that the golf club struck the ground with the heel at a pressure of 800 kPa. Here, if the pre-stored guide information according to one embodiment of the present invention includes information that the pressure applied to the ground must be 100 kPa or less, the information comparison unit (230) according to one embodiment of the present invention can compare the ground striking information (e.g., information that the pressure of the golf club striking the ground with the heel was 800 kPa) with the pre-stored guide information (e.g., information that the pressure of the golf club striking the ground must be 100 kPa or less) and generate feedback information indicating that practice to reduce ground striking is necessary.

[0088] For another example, if the information generating unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention generates ground impact information (for example, information indicating that the ground impact occurred at a point a predetermined distance away in the opposite direction of the target from the golf ball in a chip shot situation) (so-called backspin occurred), the information comparing unit (230) according to one embodiment of the present invention may compare the ground impact information with pre-stored guide information (for example, information indicating that the ground impact should occur at a point a predetermined distance away in the direction of the target from the golf ball in a chip shot situation), and generate feedback information indicating that practice is needed so that the ground impact occurs at a point closer to the golf ball or at a point a predetermined distance away in the direction of the target from the golf ball (so-called frontspin).

[0089] As another example, when the information generating unit (220) according to one embodiment of the present invention generates ground impact information (e.g., information indicating that, in a lob shot situation, the ground impact occurs at a point a predetermined distance away in the opposite direction of the target from the golf ball), the information comparing unit (230) according to one embodiment of the present invention compares the ground impact information with pre-stored guide information (e.g., information indicating that, in a lob shot situation, the ground impact should occur at a point a predetermined distance away in the opposite direction of the target from the golf ball), and generates feedback information indicating that the current swing posture should be maintained because the ground impact occurs at an appropriate location.

[0090] Meanwhile, the information provision system (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include an information provision unit (not shown).

[0091] An information providing unit according to one embodiment of the present invention may perform a function of displaying at least one of first information, second information, ground impact information, pre-stored guide information, and feedback information through a display on a device (300).

[0092] Next, the communication unit (240) according to one embodiment of the present invention can perform a function that enables data transmission and reception from / to the information acquisition unit (210), the information generation unit (220), and the information comparison unit (230).

[0093] Finally, the control unit (250) according to one embodiment of the present invention can perform a function of controlling the flow of data between the information acquisition unit (210), the information generation unit (220), the information comparison unit (230), and the communication unit (240). That is, the control unit (250) according to one embodiment of the present invention can control the flow of data from / to the outside of the information provision system (200) or the flow of data between each component of the information provision system (200), thereby controlling the information acquisition unit (210), the information generation unit (220), the information comparison unit (230), and the communication unit (240) to perform their respective unique functions.
