Abstract
Description
[0001] SHOULDER GIRDLE POSITION ADJUSTER
[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0003] Corrective devices for posture correction of the shoulder girdle are considered part of biomechanics because they combine biomechanical principles and technological solutions to support and correct the shoulder position and body posture.
[0004] TECHNICAL PROBLEM
[0005] The technical problem addressed by this invention involves how to design a corrective device for the shoulder girdle that would provide support, correct shoulder position, improve body posture, and reduce symptoms associated with poor posture.
[0006] CURRENT TECHNOLOGY
[0007] Each user has unique needs and anatomy, so it is important to individually adjust the corrective device for the shoulder girdle while achieving the correct shoulder position through continuous pressure force on the shoulder joint. Traditional shoulder correction systems (soft fabrics, elastic bands, and fastening clips) apply continuous force that does not ensure a constant (fixed) position of the shoulder girdle.
[0008] Some devices (fabric corsets with wires and rigid corsets made of polymer materials) use mechanical systems, such as clips, straps, and braces, to provide support and proper spinal alignment. These systems can be adjusted or locked in the appropriate position to ensure spinal stability.
[0009] However, traditional shoulder correction systems (soft fabrics, elastic bands, and fastening clips) apply continuous force that does not ensure a constant (fixed) position of the shoulder girdle. With this invention and the geometry of the used elements, a constant (fixed) shoulder position is ensured during use. The pressure force on the shoulders is controlled and can be adjusted during use.
[0010] ESSENCE OF THE INVENTION
[0011] The purpose of the invention, a shoulder girdle position corrector, is to provide support and correction of shoulder positioning, improve body posture, and reduce symptoms associated with poor posture. These devices are designed to help maintain the correct shoulder girdle position, reduce strain on the shoulders and back, and alleviate symptoms such as pain, muscle tension, fatigue, and discomfort related to poor posture.
[0012] They assist in correcting forward curvature of the upper spine (kyphosis), which can contribute to better posture and reduced back pain, preventing further worsening of poor posture and postural problems. They have potential applications as part of therapy and rehabilitation after injuries, surgeries, or for rehabilitation purposes. They provide stability, support, and can help correct muscles that support proper shoulder positioning.
[0013] The goal is to enhance body functionality, particularly in the context of postural alignment. Proper shoulder positioning can improve range of motion, balance, and performance in various activities, including sports and everyday tasks. It is important to note that shoulder girdle corrective devices are not a standalone solution for postural problems but are part of a comprehensive approach that may include exercises, therapy, habit changes, and consultation with medical professionals.
[0014] This goal is achieved by the invention of a shoulder girdle position corrector, which consists of two main assemblies: a supporting structure and a pressure applicator assembly with an adjustment mechanism. The supporting structure contains a pair of interconnected bent metal tubes and an assembly of metal tubes with adjustable length, which, when using the corrector, is positioned horizontally. The pressure applicator assembly with an adjustment mechanism consists of a pair of pressure applicators with adjustment mechanisms and an additional pressure applicator insert. The shoulder girdle position corrector can be used with bent metal tubes in a vertical or horizontal position. Other features and advantages of the invention are derived from the detailed description and accompanying drawings.
[0015] DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0016] The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
[0017] • Figure 1 is an axonometric view of the disassembled shoulder girdle position corrector;
[0018] • Figure 2 is an axonometric top view of the assembled shoulder girdle position corrector;
[0019] • Figure 3 is an axonometric bottom view of the assembled shoulder girdle position corrector according to a variant embodiment of the invention
[0020] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0021] The shoulder girdle position corrector according to the invention, which serves as a device for correcting the posture of the shoulder girdle, consists of two main assemblies: a supporting structure and a pressure applicator assembly with an adjustment mechanism.
[0022] As best seen in Images 1 and 2, the supporting structure contains a pair of bent metal tubes (1, 7) that exert pressure on the shoulders or back. Additionally, the supporting structure includes an assembly of adjustable-length metal tubes (3), which, when using the corrector, is positioned horizontally. The metal tube assembly (3) consists of metal tubes nested within one another, allowing the length to be adjusted by extending or retracting the tubes. When the metal tubes are fully nested within each other, the length of the metal tube assembly (3) is equal to half the average width of an adult's back. Although the metal tube assembly (3) shown in Images 1 and 2 contains three metal tubes, the number of tubes can vary, but there must be at least two to allow for the adjustment of the assembly's length. At both ends of the metal tube assembly (3), there are quick-connect devices, which will be described in more detail later. In addition to these components, the supporting structure may also include a pair of L- shaped extensions (2), whose mutually perpendicular parts have a diameter smaller than the diameter of the bent metal tubes (1,7) and the tubes of the tube assembly (3), allowing them to be inserted into the tubes. Like the metal tube assembly (3), the extensions (2) have quick-connect devices at both ends, while the bent metal tubes (1, 7) have these quickconnect devices only at one end. At their other end, the bent metal tubes have a through hole oriented towards the mentioned first end.
[0023] Regarding the metioned quick-connect devices, they can be designed in various ways, for example, as snap-fit mechanisms or by achieving appropriate fits between the tubes. A skilled person in the relevant field could foresee different implementations of these devices, so those shown in Images 1-3 are merely non-limiting illustrative examples of such meanings. In any case, it is necessary for these quick-connect devices to ensure easy and simple assembly and disassembly of the structural elements they connect, with a preference for them to be reliable, suitable for mass production, and cost-effective.
[0024] Images 1 and 2 show the assembly method of the supporting structure when the bent metal tubes (1, 7) are positioned vertically, which is the preferred method of use. In this case, one arm of the extensions (2) is inserted into the ends of the bent metal tubes (1, 7) with the quick-connect devices, while the other arms of these extensions (2) are inserted into the ends of the metal tube assembly (3), thus forming the supporting structure.
[0025] However, there is also the possibility of positioning the bent metal tubes (1, 7) horizontally, as can be seen in Figure 3. In this case, the extensions (2) are not required; instead, the ends of the bent metal tubes (1, 7) with quick-connect devices are directly connected to the ends of the metal tube assembly (3), forming a modified supporting structure.
[0026] The pressure applicator assembly with the adjustment mechanism consists of a pair of pressure applicators (6) with adjustment mechanisms (5) and an additional pressure applicator insert (4). Each pressure applicator (6) is made by expanding or molding rubber or other synthetic materials that are resistant to wear and provide good grip and comfort.
[0027] It is manufactured in one piece with rounded edges for conformity. The contour of the surface of the pressure applicator (6) is oval-shaped, with one axe of symmetry resembling an egg or ellipse, which is directly in contact with the body's surface. It is important to note that this shape plays a key role in providing support, comfort, and stability when exerting pressure on the shoulder. The front side features various patterns and reliefs designed to enhance grip. These include patterns resembling parallel horizontal half-cylinders with rounded edges. Depending on the model, the surface may be flat or slightly curved to support the natural shape of the shoulder and allow for better adherence during movement. The rear side of the pressure applicator (6) is curved in the shape of a calotte, with a circular protrusion featuring a central hole for mounting the threaded spindle of the adjustment mechanism (5). Their color and appearance may vary depending on the hardness of the material used. The hardness can be visually determined based on color and immediately applied to the patient. Some pressure applicators (6) may be monochromatic, while others may have colorful and attractive patterns to draw attention. Each pressure applicator (6) has its own adjustment mechanism (5). The mentioned mechanism (5) consists of a cylindrical body with a diameter that allows it to be inserted into the bent metal tubes (1, 7). The mechanism's body (5) has a threaded radial through- hole. When the mechanism's body (5) is placed inside the bent metal tube (1, 7) so that the hole on one end aligns with the mentioned threaded radial through-hole, a threaded spindle is then inserted through it, with one end entering the central hole in the pressure applicator (6). The threaded spindle has an expanded end on the other side, resembling a butterfly nut, which makes it easier to handle the spindle. By turning the spindle using the expanded end, the user moves the pressure applicator (6) closer to or further from the bent metal tube (1, 7), and in the final position, the pressure applicator (6) can be brought close enough to rest against the bent metal tube (1, 7).
[0028] In the middle of the horizontal metal tube assembly (3), there is an insert (4) that applies pressure to the back. It can be movable, allowing its position to be adjusted according to the desired width of the corrector. It is also made of similar materials as the pressure applicators (6). Essentially, it has the appearance of a cylinder with rounded edges, giving it a smooth and rounded look. In the center of the insert (4), there is a through-hole, whose axe does not intersect with the longitudinal axe of the insert (4) but is slightly offset to achieve eccentricity. In this way, by rotating the cylindrical insert (4) 180 degrees around the metal tube assembly (3), its fit on the user's spine can be adjusted. On the surface of the cylindrical part of the insert (4), there are two groups of parallel horizontal rounded halfcylinders on opposite sides, which extend acurately along the perimeter of the cylindrical part of the insert (4) and have rounded edges. These groups of half-cylinders allow more stable positioning of the insert (4) on the user's back.
[0029] Referring to Figure 2, the shoulder girdle position corrector is shown with the bent metal tubes (1 and 7) in a vertical position, while Image 3 shows a modified solution with the bent metal tubes (1 and 7) in a horizontal position.
[0030] The device is used by positioning the pressure applicators (6) in their final position using the adjustment mechanisms (5), against the bent metal tubes (1, 7), creating sufficient space to place the corrector on the patient's shoulders. Then, the width of the corrector is adjusted using the horizontal metal tube assembly (3) as described above, ensuring that the insert (4) is positioned in the middle of the metal tube assembly (3) and aligned along the spinal column. By tightening the threaded spindle of each adjustment mechanism (5), the pressure applicators (6) are horizontally moved to apply pressure on the shoulders and position them in the correct anatomical posture.
[0031] Unlike the horizontal positioning of the bent metal tubes (1, 7) shown in Image 3, in the vertical positioning of the bent metal tubes (1, 7) shown in Image 2, the patient has more freedom to move their elbows. INDUSTRIAL AND OTHER APPLICATIONS OF THE INVENTION
[0032] The shoulder girdle position corrector can be utilized in medical settings as part of therapy and rehabilitation for patients with various conditions, including issues with proper upper torso posture (kyphosis), sports injuries, or post-operative recovery. Medical professionals such as orthopedists, physiotherapists, or chiropractors can recommend and use shoulder girdle corrective devices as part of an overall treatment plan, as well as for preventive purposes to avoid these issues and improve posture.
[0033] Shoulder girdle corrective devices can also be used in daily life to support and maintain proper body posture. Individuals prone to poor posture or those with a sedentary lifestyle can use these devices to maintain the correct shoulder position and support proper posture.
[0034] Athletes and recreational users involved in activities that require good body posture, such as gymnastics, ballet, tennis, and golf, can use shoulder girdle corrective devices to improve posture and reduce the risk of injury. These devices can provide support during training and competition, helping athletes maintain proper shoulder alignment and enhance their sports performance and capabilities.
[0035] In all these applications, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and consult with a medical professional to determine the best use and proper adjustment of the shoulder girdle corrective device.
