[0001] SPECIFICATION

[0002] TITLE

[0003] System and method for real-time digital monitoring reporting verification of greenhouse gas emissions

[0004] TECHNOLOGY FIELD

[0005] Computer technology particularly to system and method for real-time digital monitoring reporting verification greenhouse gas emissions

[0006] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0007] Global warming and climate change are global threats that make the economy and living conditions of people in all regions more difficult. This is caused by human economic activities and consumption that continuously release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To alleviate this problem, the international community has agreed on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) to reduce greenhouse gases. It aims to control the global atmosphere temperature not to exceed 2 degrees Celsius or have a carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere not exceeding 450 parts per million compared to the pre-industrial era in the 18th century. This goal is likely to lead to the setting of national greenhouse gas emission reduction or limitation targets. In 2021, it was the beginning of measures to monitor, report and verify greenhouse gas emissions at all levels, especially at the organizational level, known as carbon footprint. This promotes stakeholders to participate by measuring, reporting, and verifying results and setting guidelines to reduce greenhouse gases at their major sources.

[0008] According to the documents of the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), which is the agency responsible for greenhouse gas certification and has measures in place to measure, report, and verify greenhouse gas emissions, it consists of requirements for designing, developing, managing, reporting, and auditing greenhouse gas inventories of organizations, including examples based on the type of organization, such as offices, educational institutions, and industrial plants. This is intended to be a guideline for assessing greenhouse gas emissions that covers all activities of each type of organization that actually occur within the country. However, the current implementation is still in the form of documents and relies on presentations to stakeholders to verify the results in the form of documents. This has the disadvantage of being error-prone, inaccurate, non- transparent, and not in accordance with international standards, as well as having high implementation costs.

[0009] Blockchain is a technology used to store and record data in the form of blocks that are connected in chain, resulting in a blockchain network. It has special characteristics in terms of decentralization, transparency, non-tampering, and trustworthiness.

[0010] US patent application No. US20190057396A1 discloses a carbon credit trading system that utilizes blockchain technology for data recording and storage to enhance the accuracy and transparency of carbon emission data. However, this patent application fails to elaborate on the verification mechanism employed by the third-party verifier in validating greenhouse gas emissions as per the measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) process. Additionally, it remains silent on the specific blockchain architecture employed, as the choice of blockchain framework significantly impacts data storage and processing capabilities.

[0011] The operation of blockchain is governed by a consensus algorithm, which is a process by nodes in a blockchain network agree on which data and transactions are valid and will be accepted into the blockchain, ensuring a trusted relationship. Common consensus algorithms used in general applications such as Proof of Work which has the following advantages in high security and hard to manipulation. It is mainly used in the Bitcoin blockchain, but it has disadvantage of using a lot of energy, causing power consumption issues and transaction latency, Proof of Stake which has advantage of using less energy but there is a downside. Those with more bitcoins will have more influence and make the network in a way that will be centralized.

[0012] Therefore, there is an attempt to invent the selection of types of blockchain to be used that are suitable for monitoring, reporting, and verifying the results of greenhouse gas emissions that are accurate according to standards and have the ability to organize for good data collection and data processing.

[0013] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0014] System for real-time digital monitoring reporting verification of greenhouse gas emissions comprises a monitoring unit (10) which is arranged to acquire greenhouse gas emission data from data sources (11), a reporting unit (20) which is arranged to obtain the data from the monitoring unit (10) and store the data in a blockchain characterized in that further comprises a verification unit (30) which is arranged to verify the data stored in the reporting unit (20) by blockchain acting as a third-party verifier to verify greenhouse gas emission.

[0015] The present invention aims to develop the currently paper-based measurement, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions into a digital and real-time format using block technology. Chain comes to help make it transparent, increase accuracy It is accurate according to international principles, has low costs, and can replace external verifiers in the process.

[0016] Another aim of this invention is The Proof of History blockchain format has been chosen, which is a blockchain format that saves energy and reduces block creation time. This results in the ability to collect and process data from multiple sources simultaneously in real time. Leads to the processing of big data (Big data).
