Description

[0001] Tripod Seat Apparatus and Associated Methods

[0002] This application claims priority under 35 USC 119(e) to US Provisional Application No. 63 / 535,231 filed August 29, 2023, the entire contents of which is incorporated by reference.

[0003] Field of the invention

[0004] The present invention relates to an apparatus that is both a tripod as well as a seat for photographers, hunters, astronomers, painters, police officers, private investigators, surveillance crews and surveyors. Although the principal goal of the apparatus is to be used for photographers, the tripod-seat apparatus can be used for other activities such as hunting, painting, space exploration, surveillance and surveying. In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus itself does not change depending on its use. Rather, it has removable heads that allow other cameras to be used as well as the potential of attaching either a gun, telescope or surveying equipment at the top of the tripod. The apparatus that combines a tripod with a seat is incredibly light and portable, yet sufficiently robust so that it can easily be moved by a user yet can also easily support the weight of the user and a heavy camera, gun, telescope or surveying equipment that the user uses.

[0005] Background of the invention

[0006] Photographers are present at sporting events, at weddings, graduations and other ceremonies, in the wild such as when filming wildlife, when filming movie shoots, and at other places where there is interest in capturing pictures or videos of events. The professional or avid photographer often has an interest in capturing great pictures or videos that can be seen and shared with others (or used in publications or used in other media such as on web sites, movies, documentaries and the like). However, sometimes the photographer has to work long hours to obtain the ideal shot or video (be it analog or digital). Thus, as is often the case, a photographer may need a seat on occasion so as to not tire physically (and possibly also mentally), which can certainly adversely affect the quality of the shot or video that the photographer is to shoot. Photographers who are comfortable when taking pictures are more likely to produce camera shots and videos that are of higher quality than the corresponding photographer that is not comfortable when taking the same pictures. The invention is also advantageous in that it allows the photographer to capture angle perspectives that are different from the standing photographer.

[0007] Very high quality cameras often come with a plurality of lenses and many lenses may be quite large and heavy. Moreover, cinematographers and videographers often use cameras that are very heavy and difficult to move. Cinematographers and videographers sometimes require shots from different angles and thus there is a need to sometimes rapidly move their cameras. Although the placement of these cameras on wheels has been used to meet this need to some extent, the placement of these cameras on wheels still does not afford the cinematographer and videographer with the nimbleness that is needed. This problem is particularly exacerbated when filming is done on uneven ground or in dense vegetation. Other cinematographers and videographers have to some extent tried to solve this problem by mounting slightly smaller cameras on the shoulder of the cinematographer and videographer. However, this shoulder mounted solution has the potential drawback of having to continually support the weight from a light camera, which can become heavy when having to support the camera for long periods of time. Camera tripods are very useful at relieving the user from having to support the weight of the camera. Camera tripods are also useful in that they allow the photographer a steady shot, which is particularly important when the light may be low or in other instances where long exposure times (like in video) are desirable. Even with a tripod, the photographer / videographer may get tired having to stand on his / her feet for long periods of time waiting for the ideal shot.

[0008] Bringing a chair along (such as a camping folding chair) may alleviate some of the burden / tiredness of having to wait long periods of time to take a photo. However, having a separate tripod and chair means that the photographer / videographer has to separately and sequentially fold up both the chair and the tripod when having to move to a new location (or a different angle). This may be particularly disadvantageous when speed of movement is of essence. Tt is with these drawbacks in mind that the present invention was developed.

[0033] Detailed description of the invention

[0034] The present invention relates to an apparatus that is both a tripod as well as a seat for photographers, hunters, astrologers, painters, surveyors and surveillance personnel. The apparatus that combines a tripod with a seat is incredibly light, comfortable and portable so that it can easily be moved by individuals yet also sufficiently robust so that it can easily support the weight of the individual and a heavy piece of equipment they may have.

[0035] In an embodiment, the present invention relates to an apparatus that combines a tripod with a chair that allows the two parts to be folded up in one action so that the apparatus can be quickly transported. In an embodiment, the act of folding the tripod also folds the chair. In an embodiment, the apparatus is sufficiently light so that the apparatus can be transported easily with one hand (even with the camera, gun, phone, easel, or telescope attached to the tripod part). For the sake of this application, when the term “closed” is used in connection with the apparatus of the present invention, it means that the legs are all adjacently together and the apparatus is not in use for its intended purpose. When the term “open” is used, it means that the legs are spread apart. If the term “fully open” is used, it means that the legs are spread apart to an extent that they cannot be further “opened”. When the apparatus is in the “open” position, the apparatus can be in use, the camera can be mounted on the tripod and the seat is ready and available for a user to sit on it.

[0036] In an embodiment, the apparatus of the present invention can also be adapted to be used by hunters so that the tripod can hold a rifle (or another gun) and the seat can be used by the hunter.

[0037] In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus can be adapted to be used by surveyors with a surveying level and a surveying scope placed at the position where the head occurs. The seat will allow a surveyor to get accurate readings from a corresponding surveying stick (when viewed through the scope) because the surveyor will have very limited movement.

[0038] In an embodiment, the apparatus of the present invention may also allow the attachment of a telescope for astronomers or surveillance personnel. The seat associated with the apparatus allows a user to be able to effectively watch planets, stars, satellites, comets, and objects present in outer space and provides an incredibly stable platform that is ideally suited to planet, star and object gazing. It combines the functionalities of a telescope for observing celestial objects in outer space and a surveillance apparatus for terrestrial applications. The device's unique design and advanced features allow it to cater to both astronomical enthusiasts and security-conscious individuals, expanding its potential applications beyond traditional telescopic purposes.

[0039] In an embodiment, the present invention may be used by a painter, wherein the tripod is able to support an easel and the seat allows a painter to sit in the seat. The tripod may also be adapted to allow attachment of a pallet for paint and brushes and other paint related objects.

[0040] In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus of the present invention may also comprise a shoulder strap that allows the tripod-seat apparatus to be easily and effectively transported to other new locations. This shoulder strap will facilitate the photographer (when used with a camera), the hunter or marksman (when using a gun), and / or the surveyor, and / or the painter, and / or astronomer and surveillance personnel to easily and quickly move the tripod-seat apparatus to a new location. The strap may be connected directly to the tripodseat apparatus in two separate locations allowing the user to move the tripod-seat apparatus over the user’s shoulder without using a bag. In an embodiment, the shoulder strap is connected in one location at a lower end of the longer leg and at a second location on or near the center column lock. In a separate embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus may be a part of a kit that has a bag that is designed to hold the tripod-seat apparatus and the bag may have a shoulder strap associated with it that allows the tripod-seat apparatus to be easily moved. Alternatively and or additionally, there may be a handle associated with the tripodseat apparatus (for example, attached to a leg) that allows the tripod-seat apparatus to be easily carried and moved to a new location.

[0041] In an embodiment, the present invention relates to an apparatus that has two longer front legs and a truncated back leg. In this embodiment, the truncated back leg has two projecting support legs that are attached to the truncated back leg at an end of the truncated back leg. The two projecting support legs have one end that is attached to the truncated back leg at the projecting support leg connector and a second end that is attached to the seat foot on the ground. See Fig. 3.

[0042] In an embodiment, the tripod part may have a center column, the center column having a length that allows it to support a camera (or any of the equipment mentioned previously) on the top end of the center column and a balance hook may optionally be present on the bottom end of the center column. The balance hook is optionally present so that a photographer (or hunter or others) may add weight to the center column thereby making it more stable when weight is added to the balance hook. In an embodiment, the center column is of a length that precludes it from touching the ground at the bottom end when the tripod is in the open position (i.e., when the tripod is in use or the legs of the tripod are spread out and touching the ground). The center column may have a column lock associated with it that when loose allows the height of the center column to be adjusted and when tightened, locks the center column in place so that it maintains a height (even when a heavy camera is placed upon it). In an embodiment, the center column may also have a head, the head comprising an assembly that allows the mounting of a camera (or a gun or any of the other devices mentioned herein) on it when it is being used. If the head is designed for camera use, in an embodiment, the head may comprise a clamp and a release plate, which both are designed to mount the camera to the head.

[0043] In an embodiment, the camera may be attached to the center column on the head by a release plate with a screw projecting out of the top of the release plate in the center of the top of the release plate, the screw designed to accommodate and attach to a inch 20 thread camera hole on the bottom of the camera, and the release plate bottom designed to fit in a depression on a mounting bracket and locked in place by a lever / clamp. When the lever / clamp is in the open position, the release plate can be removed from the depression in the mounting bracket, and when the lever / clamp is in the closed position, the release plate is locked in place in the depression on the mounting bracket. In an embodiment, the center column may optionally have telescoping segments that allow the center column to be adjusted so that the height of the camera may vary. In an embodiment, the head may comprise a pan and tilt head, one or more of a pan handle, a panning lock nut, and a side tilt locking nut. The pan and tilt head tends to be bulkier and more stable but also weighs more.

[0044] In another embodiment, the head may comprise a ball head, the ball head having a friction and a locking nut. The ball head has a ball and shaft associated with the bottom of the mounting bracket, the shaft attached to the mounting bracket and the ball attached to the shaft. The ball can be mounted to a socket, which is designed to accommodate the ball, on the center column, and the ball can be placed, secured and tightened by a friction knob and a tightening knob that secures the ball in the socket so that it does not move. The ball head is advantageous to other designs in that it tends to be smaller but suffers the drawback of it not being as precise in control and not as stable. If the camera is large, the ball in the socket can move and topple over. Thus, the ball head is designed for use with smaller cameras.

[0045] In another embodiment, the head may be a photography gimbal head type. The photography gimbal head is designed to support both heavy and light cameras. The weight of the camera is balanced effortlessly so that the camera can be easily moved both vertically and horizontally. The gimbal is also designed so that the user can remove his / her hands from the camera without needing to lock any pan or tilt knobs as one typically would with a ball head. The gimbal is comprised of smooth bearing cartridges that allow the photographer to easily shoot panning shots. The gimbal comes in both cradle mounts and side mount varieties with the cradle mount variety being more robust than the side mount variety allowing a user to mount a heavier camera.

[0046] The head, in one embodiment, is designed to be of a size that can easily support the camera that is being used when the apparatus is in the open position. In an embodiment, the head may be optionally removed from the center column and another head placed on the center column for use. For example, the center column may be designed so that it can accommodate both a pan and tilt configured head, a gimbal type head, as well as a ball and socket configured head. If a larger camera is to be used, the pan and tilt configured head may be used and if a smaller, lighter camera is to be used, the ball and socket configured head may be preferred. The gimbal head allows one to use any size camera.

[0047] In an embodiment, the first longer legs that are part of the tripod configuration may have leg pivot angle limiter associated with the legs that prevent the legs when in an open position from being extended beyond a certain angle. The leg pivot angle limiter may be attached at the upper end of the longer legs. In an embodiment, each of the longer legs may possess the leg pivot angle limiter that allows one to limit the angle to which the longer leg is opened. When the legs are open (extended) so as to be in use, the leg pivot angle limiter allows the user to have the ideal opening of the legs allowing the tripod to be at the ideal height and to possess the ideal stability. The leg pivot limiters work by frictional force so that when they are in a closed configuration, the legs are locked in position. When in the open configuration, the legs can be adjusted.

[0048] In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus may have a seat associated with one of the first longer legs. In an embodiment, the seat is formed by having two second shorter legs that are attached to the longer back leg at the lower attachment point comprising one end of the shorter legs (the part of the leg closer to the ground) and the second end attached to the far end of the sheath. In an embodiment, a flexible sheath is present and operationally attached at the far end of the shorter legs (the part of the leg away from the ground) so that the sheath serves as a seat / chair that can be used by a photographer or astronomer, etc. The sheath is generally triangular or rectangular in shape. The sheath is connected to the second shorter legs on the far side of the legs on a first end of the sheath, and the opposite second side of the sheath is connected to the first longer leg at a higher position than the position at which the near side of the second shorter legs are attached to the first longer leg. When the device is in the fully open position, the seat is also in the open position and allows a user to sit on the seat.

[0049] When the apparatus is in the open position, the second shorter legs are also in the open position allowing a user to sit on the sheath and the second shorter legs do not contact the ground but rather are supported at a midpoint of the longer leg to which the near sides of the second shorter legs are attached.

[0050] The invention is principally concerned with a single solitary apparatus that serves as both a tripod and a seat that a photographer can sit in that is easily movable. It should be understood that any of a plurality of heads can be used in conjunction with the apparatus so that this application does not delve into great detail the various heads that can be used. This application discusses in more detail the novel aspect of the seat in conjunction with the tripod that allows a photographer or other users to sit while using the tripod wherein the tripod-seat apparatus can be easily transported and set up so that a photographer can take pictures rapidly or slowly as the need arises. Thus, the tripod-seat apparatus of the present invention possesses great portability and usability.

[0093] In figure 1, the tripod-seat apparatus 1 has a head 14 on it which is connected to the mounting plate 26b, and a center column 12, the height of the center column is adjustable and held and locked in place by the center column lock 26a. The longer legs 2 comprise both a longer back leg 2a and longer front legs 2c and the longer legs 2 comprise telescoping portions with leg locks 3 that allow the longer legs 2 to become shorter or longer as needed. The feet 4 contact the ground at a first end of the longer leg 2 and contact the casting plate and release feature 16 at a second end of the longer leg 2. The casting plate and release feature 16 may have leg pivots 5 operationally attached to them that allow the longer legs 2 to close for transport or open so as to generate a usable tripod-seat apparatus 1. Accordingly, the leg pivots 5 serve the purpose of providing a joint that allows the longer legs to open or close. In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus 1 may have leg pivot angle limiters 5a (not shown in Fig. 1 but shown in Fig. 10) associated with the leg pivots 5 associated with them that prevents the legs from opening beyond a given amount. Optionally, the apparatus comprises optional foam padding 6 that performs the function of comfort when transporting the apparatus and may prevent the legs from damage.

[0094] It has been found that when a user of the tripod-seat apparatus 1 is seated in the sheath 8 that the center of gravity of the tripod-seat apparatus 1 is moved in a direction towards the user. Accordingly, in an embodiment, the lengths of the longer legs 2 are ideally not the same length with the longer back leg 2a that contains the sheath 8 being longer than the other two longer front legs 2c. Accordingly, in an embodiment, if the leg pivot angle limiters 5a are present, it should be understood that any of the longer legs may be longer than the other corresponding longer legs 2 to allow the device to be used on uneven ground. Accordingly, rather than having the feet 4 positioned so as to create on the ground an equilateral triangle (all the sides being the same length), the longer legs 2 may be positioned so that the feet 4 are an isosceles triangle (a first and a second side being the same length) with the third side being shorter. In an embodiment, the leg pivot angle limiters may allow preset configurations that set the angle at which the longer legs can be opened. Thus, the device can be adapted to ideally suit not just the user but also the terrain in which the user uses the device. Moreover, the tripod-seat apparatus 1 may have settings that can be set and maintained for a particular user thereby reducing the need for that user to have to adjust settings every time that the tripod-seat apparatus is opened and used.

[0095] In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus 1 has a center column 12 associated with it that has a hook 13 at a bottom end of the center column 12 and is operationally attached to the head 14 (which includes but is not limited to a gimbal head 14a and a ball head 14b) at the top end of the center column 12. Within the casting plate and release feature 16 one can place a center column 12 which allows the selected head 14 height to be adjusted. Thus, a camera that rests on the head 14 and remains securely positioned at a given height when the center column lock 15 is tightened and allows the center column 12 to be adjusted vertically to the desired position when the center column lock 15 is not tightened (i.e., loose). In an embodiment, the tightening of the center column lock 15 constricts the center column 12 so that it does not move relative to the casting plate and release feature 16. When loosened, the center column lock 15 loosens (does not constrict) the center column 12 allowing the center column 12 to be moved vertically up and down. It should be understood that other means of stably setting the height of the center column 12 can be used. For example, a set screw might be used to stably maintain the center column 12 at the desired height. Alternatively, a clasp or other device may be used to securely fasten the center column 12 at the desired height. In an embodiment, the hook 13 serves the purpose of serving as ballast or allows one to hang accessories. Thus, the hook allows one to attach weights (such as a handled bag with additional camera(s) or extra lenses in it) to it to make the tripod heavier when in use.

[0096] In an embodiment, a center column 12 (or other device) may be secured allowing placement of various heads 14 (such as the gimbal head 14a of figure 1). The casting plate and release feature 16 may have a means that allow different heads to be attached to the tripod-seat apparatus 1. For example, there may be a screw that allows different heads to be screwed into the casting plate and release feature 16, or a snap fit or other means of attaching the different heads 14 to the tripod-seat apparatus 1. The casting plate and release feature 16 may also be adapted to allow a hunter to use the tripod-seat apparatus 1 for mounting equipment necessary to mount a gun, or equipment that allows a surveyor to mount surveying equipment such as a scope and level necessary for a user to do survey work. The casting plate and release feature 16 may allow others to mount their appropriate devices.

[0097] It is contemplated that the hook 13 may not be present because the tripod-seat apparatus 1 will likely be heavy enough with a user in the seat so as to not become unstable, for example, in high winds. It is contemplated that the center column 12 may also have locks (similar to the leg locks 3 in the longer legs 2 but not shown in the figures) associated with the center column 12 that allows the center column 12 to be telescoped. In this embodiment it is contemplated that the center column length can be adjusted so as to have another point of contact with the ground (meaning that the tripod-seat apparatus becomes a tetrapod). This embodiment might be a desirable feature when a very heavy camera is used so as to provide extra stabilization for the extra weight from the camera.

[0098] In an embodiment, the tripod-seat apparatus 1 has two shorter legs 7 (a left shorter leg 7a and a right shorter leg 7b) associated with it that are operationally connected to the other longer back leg 2a at lower attachment point 9. When in the open position, the two shorter legs 7 have at their other end (away from lower attachment point 9) a sheath 8 that is operationally connected to the two shorter legs 7 and also connected to the longer back leg 2a at higher attachment point 11. The sheath 8 is attached to the other end of the two shorter legs by rivets 10 or by some other means of attaching a sheath 8 to poles that comprise the shorter legs 7. At higher attachment point 11 (see figs. 4 and 7), the sheath may be connected by a metallic ring I la (see fig. 8) that is of a size so that it can fit around the circumference of the shorter legs 7. The shorter legs 7 when in the open position has the sheath 8 expanded to a size that is sufficiently large so that a user can easily sit down when the tripod-seat apparatus 1 is in use. The sheath 8 (see fig. 4 , 7, and 10) is also of a shape and size so that there is sufficient flexibility so that the sheath 8 is quite comfortable when sitting down on it, including having some flexibility to allow the sheath 8 to mold to the user’s buttock and hamstrings (similar to camping chairs).

[0099] In an embodiment, and as shown in fig. 2, there is an optional shoulder strap 24, a padded sleeve 24a, rivet 24b, the bottom part of the shoulder strap attached to the longer back leg 2a. The upper part of the shoulder strap 24 is attached to the center column at or near the casting plate and release feature 16. There is also hook and loop strap attachment 25 to secure the legs together in the closed position.

[0100] In an embodiment and as shown in fig. 3, there exist hinged projecting support legs 19 that is operationally attached to the projecting support leg connector 21. In this embodiment there are four legs that contact the ground via their feet. Optionally, the center column (not visible in fig. 3) may touch the ground making five possible contact points with the ground. Fig. 3A shows a close up of projecting support leg connector 21 with leg connector bolts 22 that secure the hinged projecting support legs 19 to the projecting support leg connector 21. There exist hinge slots 23 that allow the hinged projecting support legs 19 to open and close. The truncated back leg 17 is visible with the hinged projecting support legs 19 coming together at the projecting support leg connector 21. Fig. 4 shows a different perspective view of fig. 1 showing how the lower attachment point 9 is connected. In an embodiment, the lower seat attachment point 9 comprises pin 9a that penetrates and traverses holes on opposite sides of longer back leg 2a through longer back leg hole 2b, or optionally, is attached to the outer circumference of longer back leg 2a via clamp (for example, a pipe clamp). A pin 9a penetrates and traverses through holes on opposite sides in longer back leg 2a and penetrates and traverses through holes on opposite sides present in the shorter legs 7. In this embodiment, it should be understood that shorter legs 7a and 7b and longer back leg 2a are metallic, plastic or made of a hard material (such as carbon fiber) that has the legs hollow in the center (thus, meaning that there are two holes on opposite sides of the legs to allow the pin 9a to penetrate and traverse the legs). Pin 9a has cap / nuts 9b and 9c associated with pin 9a that prevents pin 9a from falling out when the pin 9a traverses the holes in shorter legs 7a and 7b and longer back leg 2a. The cap / nuts 9b, 9c may be permanently affixed to pin 9a or alternatively, the caps may be removable from pin 9a allowing the pin 9a to be inserted into a hole from the end. Once the pin 9a is inserted into a hole, the cap / nuts 9b and 9c may be affixed to the end of the pin 9a so that the pin 9a stays positioned in the holes in the legs (2a, 7a, 7b) that it traverses. Pin 9a should be of sufficient length so that the pin 9a is able to penetrate through the entirety of holes in shorter legs 7a and 7b and longer back leg 2a, but short enough so that there is little to no play when pin 9a traverses the holes in shorter legs 7a and 7b and longer back leg 2a (that is, the legs should be relatively taut with the pin through it). It should be understood that pin 9a allows the shorter legs 7a and 7b to rotate in a seat direction rotation 7c when the tripod-seat apparatus 1 is closed up and ready to move.

[0101] The holes 2b and 9d that are present on the longer back leg 2a and the shorter legs 7a and 7b may be large enough and properly oriented so that the seat is able to rotate in a seat direction rotation 7c in either direction allowing the seat to entirely close up when the tripodseat apparatus is ready to move. In this embodiment, the holes 9d may actually be slots that allow the pin 9a to move in a way that allows the shorter legs 7 to open and close.

[0102] In another embodiment, the lower attachment point 9 may have a pin 9a associated with it that traverses through the two shorter legs 7a and 7b but does not traverse through the longer back leg 2a. Rather, the pin 9a is positioned in a location that is below (and outside) the longer back leg 2a. The longer back leg 2a may have an attachment (comprising 9f) on it that is located at the lower attachment point 9 and keeps the lower attachment point 9 at the same location relative to the longer back leg 2a (i.e., the lower attachment point 9 does not slide up and / or down the longer back leg 2a). This attachment may be a snap fit hook (not shown), a pin snap (not shown). These pin snap and snap fit hook may comprise a flexible plastic piece or metal piece similar to something that holds legs by snap fit on a folding table when closed, a piece with a hole 9f, or another means of securing the pin 9a so that it does not move relative to the longer back leg 2a.

[0103] Fig. 5 shows a rear view showing the seat brace 20 which holds the sheath 8 open. The seat brace 20 lends stability to the seat allowing a user to sit comfortably on the sheath. Fig. 8 shows a close-up of seat brace 20, which comprises a central hinge point 20a and two end hinge points 20b.

[0104] Fig. 6 shows a rear view of the apparatus showing the seat direction rotation 7c showing how the seat, which comprises the sheath 8, the right and left shorter legs 7b, 7a closes and opens. The lower connection point 9 is shown, which is blown up in fig. 6A. Fig. 6A shows the pin 9a, which traverses through holes 9f, and shows cap / nut 9b and 9c, which secures the pin 9a in place.

[0105] Fig. 7 shows a side view of the seat portion of the apparatus. It shows the higher attachment point 11 with rivets 10 attaching the sheath 8 to the shorter legs 7a, 7b. The sheath support 8a is shown, which supports the sheath and limits the sheath from sliding down the longer back leg 2a. The metallic ring 1 la is shown in fig. 8.

[0106] In fig. 8, there is a rear view and a different embodiment that shows a more complex seat configuration. In this embodiment, one can see cross legs 29, end point of the truncated back leg 18, hinged projecting support legs 19, and vertical legs 32. In this embodiment, the longer back leg is a truncated back leg 17, and the cross legs 29 are attached at a midpoint to the truncated back leg 17 at the end point of the truncated back leg 18 and cross leg hinge 30. The vertical legs 32 are attached to the cross legs 29 at a point below the back sheath higher attachment points (left and right, 1 lb, 11c, respectively). The vertical legs 32 also comprise seat feet 33, the seat feet also attached to cross legs 29 and to the hinged projecting support legs 19 at the lower foot attachment point 36. Fig. 8 shows the optional seat back sheath 31 along with optional umbrella 28, and optional cup holder 27. The optional seat back sheath 31 offers comfort and back support for a user sitting on sheath 8.

[0107] Fig. 9 shows a different near opposite view of the embodiment shown in fig. 8. In this figure, the longer legs, the center column, and the accessory attachment point (for example, the attachment point for the camera, etc.) are better seen in this figure.

[0108] Although not shown, it is contemplated that there may also be additional components that can be attached to the tripod-seat apparatus 1, such as an optional umbrella 28 (see fig. 8) that may be attached to an extension of the vertical leg 32 so as to provide protection from the rain or intense sun (for example as seen in US Patent No. D627,148). Alternatively and / or additionally, there may be a cup-holder attachment 27 that may attach anywhere to the tripodseat apparatus 1, such as at a lower or higher part of one of the vertical legs 32 (for example, as described in US Patent Nos. 4,474,273, 5,580,020, or 10,531,755).

[0109] Fig. 10 shows a top view of the tripod-seat apparatus shown with optional seat back sheath 31 and sheath 8. This figure also shows the leg pivot angle limiters 5a, which limits the longer leg angles. There may be a plurality of leg pivot angle limiters on the device, all of which are designed to limit the various leg angles, as needed.

[0110] Fig. 11 shows another view of the embodiment shown in fig. 9. This figure highlights the higher attachment point 35 allowing the sheath 8 to be secured and serving as an attachment point for the hinged projecting support legs 19 to connect to the truncated back leg 17. The hinged lower connection point 34 can also be seen, which is the attachment point for the cross legs 29 and the truncated back leg 17.

[0111] Fig. 12 shows an embodiment for a painter.
