Abstract
Description
EXTENDABLE AND CONTRACTIBLE CHASSIS AND VEHICLEBACKGROUNDTechnical Field
[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to a chassis and a vehicle, more
[0002] particularly to a chassis and a vehicle which are extendable and contractible.
[0003] Related Art
[0004] Light commercial vehicles (LCVs) are commonly used to transport goods. However, a number of issues exist in the application of LCVs. For example, in congested urban areas and narrow streets, it may be difficult for an LCV to navigate or find a suitable parking spot. In addition, spatial occupancy of a LCV remains unchanged regardless of container load. Besides, when an LCV is not fully loaded, the air conditioning or refrigeration of the container is partially wasted. Also, an LCV requires the same amount of space to park even during the LCV inactivity, and therefore the expenses for parking the LCV is high due to the requirement for real-estate space. Furthermore, LCVs of varying sizes are required to be available for diverse business needs, and therefore different maintenance and workforce training are required for differently sized LCVs.SUMMARY
[0005] In view of the above issues, the present disclosure provides a chassis and a vehicle which are extendable and contractible. The extendable and contractible chassis comprises a middle frame portion, a first frame portion, a second frame portion, and at least one driving module. The middle frame portion has a first side and a second side opposite to each other. The first frame portion is movably arranged on the first side of the middle frame portion. The second frame portion is movably arranged on the second side of the middle frame portion. The driving module is disposed on at least one of the middle frame portion, the first frame portion and the second frame portion. The at least one driving module is adapted to actuate at least one of the first frame portion and the second frame portion to move in relation to the middle frame portion.
[0006] The extendable and contractible vehicle comprises the middle frame portion, the first frame portion, the second frame portion, the at least one driving module, a first body portion, a second body portion, and a middle body portion. The first body portion is arranged on the first frame portion. The second body portion is arranged on the second frame portion. The middle body portion is above the middle frame portion and coupled to the first body portion and the second body portion.
[0007] As above, the present disclosure provides a chassis and a vehicle which are extendable and contractible. The chassis and the vehicle offer flexibility to extend and contract based on specific needs. For instance, the extension may be required when a larger storage capacity is desirable, and the contraction may be required when a smaller space occupied by the vehicle is desirable. In summary, the present disclosure provides an extendable and contractible chassis and vehicle that afford dynamic adaptability to accommodate varying spatial requirements, enabling expansion for enhanced storage capacity and contraction for space optimization.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0029] Please refer to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. An extendable and contractible chassis 100 comprises a middle frame portion 130, a first frame portion 110, a second frame portion 120, and at least one driving module 140. The middle frame portion 130 has a first side 131 and a second side 132 opposite to each other. The first frame portion 110 is movably arranged on the first side 131 of the middle frame portion 130. The second frame portion 120 is movably arranged on the second side 132 of the middle frame portion 130. The extendable and contractible chassis 100 may be extended and contracted, and the overall length of the extendable and contractible chassis 100 may be maintained at various dimensions as needed, offering a range of adaptable lengths to meet diverse requirements. The first frame portion 110 and the second frame portion 120 may be either congruent or divergent, and a size and dimensions of the middle frame portion 130 may be selected freely, contributing to the applications for different spatial considerations.
[0030] In some embodiments, the middle frame portion 130 includes a first sliding portion 133 on the first end 131 and a second sliding portion 134 on the second end 132. The first frame portion 110 includes a first sliding element 111 slidably coupled to the first sliding portion 133, and the second frame portion 120 includes a second sliding element 121 slidably coupled to the second sliding portion 134. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, the first frame portion 110 is provided with two sliding elements 111, and the second frame portion 120 is provided with two sliding elements 121. However, it is understood that the uniformity in the numbers and placements of the first sliding elements 111 and the second sliding elements 121 is not an absolute requirement. For example, there may be one first sliding element 111 and three second sliding elements 121, and the placements of the first sliding elements 111 and the second sliding elements 121 do not have to be aligned to one another or be symmetrical. Similarly, the numbers and placements of the first sliding portions 133 and the second sliding portions 134 will be set in accordance with the corresponding first sliding element 111 and second sliding element 121.
[0031] The at least one driving module 140 is disposed on at least one of the middle frame portion 130, the first frame portion 110 and the second frame portion 130, and the at least one driving module 140 is adapted to actuate at least one of the first frame portion 110 and the second frame portion 120 to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130. In other words, the at least one driving module 140 is adapted to actuate the first frame portion 110 and / or the second frame portion 120.
[0032] For example, in, Fig. 1, a first driving module 141 is disposed on the first frame portion 110 to independently actuate the first frame portion 110 to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130, and a second driving module 142 is disposed on the second frame portion 120 to independently actuate the second frame portion 120 to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130. However, the number and placements of the driving modules 140 are not limited thereto. For example, the driving module 140 maybe implemented using a coordinated arrangement of a rack and pinion (not shown) , which may be disposed between the first frame portion 110 and the middle frame portion 130, as well as between the second frame portion 120 and the middle frame portion 130. Also, the driving module 140 may be implemented to drive a lock and release mechanism 112 / 122 (see Fig. 3 and Fig. 4, illustrated later) .
[0033] As another example, the driving module 140 can function as a power source for the wheels of the extendable and contractible chassis 100, such as an in-wheel motor. In the case where movement between the first frame portion 110 and the middle frame portion 130 is not locked, the wheels on either sides of the extendable and contractible chassis 100 may induce movement of the first frame portion 110 relative to the middle frame portion 130, achieving chassis expansion and contraction. Similarly, when the movement between the second frame portion 120 and the middle frame portion 130 is not locked, the wheels on either sides of the extendable and contractible chassis 100 may induce movement of the second frame portion 120 relative to the middle frame portion 130, achieving chassis expansion and contraction.
[0034] Specifically, the first frame portion 110 comprises a first proximal end 114 and a first distal end 113, and the second frame portion 120 comprises a second proximal end 124 and a second distal end 123. In some embodiments, the first proximal end 114 is movably arranged on the first side 131 of the middle frame portion 110 through the first sliding element 111 and the first sliding portion 133; and the second proximal end 124 is movably arranged on the second side 132 of the middle frame portion 130 through the second sliding element 121 and the second sliding portion 134. In response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal end 123 being actuated to move away from the middle frame portion 130 (i.e., the first distal end 113 and / or the second distal end 123 being actuated to move away from the middle frame portion 130) , a length of the extendable and contractible chassis 100 increases. In response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal end 123 being actuated to move toward the middle frame portion 130 (i.e., the first distal end 113 and / or the second distal end 123 being actuated to move toward the middle frame portion 130) , the length of the extendable and contractible chassis 100 decreases.
[0035] Please refer to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4. In some embodiments, the extendable and contractible chassis 100 further comprises a first lock and release mechanism 112 and a second lock and release mechanism 122. The first lock and release mechanism 112 is disposed between the first frame portion 110 and the middle frame portion 130 and configured to releasably fix the movement of the first frame portion 110 relative to the middle frame portion 130. The second lock and release mechanism 122 is disposed between the second frame portion 120 and the middle frame portion 130 and configured to releasably fix the movement of the second frame portion 120 relative to the middle frame portion 130. In some embodiments, the first lock and release mechanism 112 is provided between the first sliding portion 133 and the first sliding element 111, and the second lock and release mechanism 122 is provided between the second sliding portion 134 and the second sliding element 121.
[0036] It is understood that the number of first lock and release mechanisms 112 depends on the number of the first sliding element 111 and the first sliding portion 133 and that the number of the second lock and release mechanisms 122 depends on the number of the second sliding element 121 and the second sliding portion 134. The number of first lock and release mechanisms 112 may be either the same as or different from the number of the first sliding element 111 and the first sliding portion 133, and the number of the second lock and release mechanisms 122 may be either the same as or different from the number of the second sliding element 121 and the second sliding portion 134. For example, it is possible to have a smaller quantity of lock and release mechanisms compared with the sliding elements, as long as the requirement for lock and release is met.
[0037] As mentioned above, the first lock and release mechanism 112 and the second lock and release mechanism 121 may each be driven by the driving module 140 in order to actuate the first frame portion 110 and the second frame portion 120 to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130, respectively. In other words, the lock and release mechanism 120 and the driving module 140 may be integrated. The number of the driving modules 140 may be either the same as or different from the sum of the number of the first lock and release mechanisms 112 and the number of the second lock and release mechanisms 122. For example, there may be fewer driving modules 140 compared with the lock and release mechanisms, as long as the driving requirement is met.
[0038] Specifically, in some embodiments, each of the first lock and release mechanisms 112 and the second lock and release mechanisms 122 comprises a rack gear 112a / 122a and a pinion gear 112b / 122b gearedly coupled to the rack gear 112a / 122a.
[0039] Please refer to Fig. 5. An extendable and contractible vehicle 200 comprises the middle frame portion 130, the first frame portion 110, the second frame portion 120, the driving modules 140, a first body portion 210, a second body portion 220, and a middle body portion 230. The first body portion 210 is arranged on the first frame portion 110. The second body portion 220 is arranged on the second frame portion 120. The middle body portion 230 is above the middle frame portion 130 and coupled to the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220. The middle body portion 230 can either be arranged on the middle frame portion 130 or not on the middle frame portion 130. In different embodiments, the extendable and contractible chassis 110 in various aforementioned embodiments may be combined with the first body portion 210, the second body portion 220, and the middle body portion 230 to form the extendable and contractible vehicle 200.
[0040] In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220 are the rear part and the front part of the extendable and contractible vehicle 200, respectively. Nonetheless, it is important to note that the present disclosure is not confined to this exact configuration. A person skilled in the art should understand that the first body portion 210 can serve as the front part, and conversely, the second body portion 220 can serve as the rear part.
[0041] Besides, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the middle portion 230 is positioned beneath both the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220, and the middle body portion 230 is at least partially covered by the first body portion 210. However, the present disclosure is not limited thereto. A person skill in the art should understand that the middle body portion 230 may also be above the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220, and the first body portion 210 be partially covered by the middle body portion 230. Further, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the middle portion 230 is connected with the second body portion 220 and overlaps with the first body portion 210. A person skill in the art should understand that the middle body portion 230 may alternatively be connected with the first body portion 210 and overlap with the second body portion 220.
[0042] Please refer to Fig. 5 and Fig. 8. In response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal end 123 being actuated to move away from the middle frame portion 130, a length of the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 increases. In response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal end 123 being actuated to move toward the middle frame portion 130, the length of the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 decreases. Since the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 incorporates the extendable and contractible chassis 100 in any of the above embodiments for the extension and the contraction, the overall length of the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 can also be maintained at various dimensions as needed.
[0043] In some embodiments, in response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal end 123 being actuated to move away from the middle frame portion 130, the middle body portion 230 overlaps less with the first body portion 210; and in response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal 123 end being actuated to move toward the middle frame portion 130, the middle body portion 230 overlaps more with the first body portion 210. For example, comparing Fig. 5 and Fig. 8, it is seen that the middle body portion 230 overlaps more with the first body portion 210 in Fig. 5 and less in Fig. 8. In short, adjusting the position of the first and second distal ends 113, 123 in relation to the middle frame portion 130 results in varying degrees of overlap between the middle body portion 230 and the first body portion210.
[0044] In some embodiment, one of the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220 includes an enclosed cabin, and the other one of the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220 constitutes a cargo bed with the middle body portion 230, so that the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 forms a pick-up truck (not shown) . In some embodiments, each of the first body portion 210, the second body portion 220, and the middle body portion 230 may be enclosed, semi-open, or open.
[0045] Please refer to Fig. 5 through Fig. 7. In some embodiments, a first sealing strip 211 may be provided at an edge of the first body portion 210 and between the middle body portion 230 and the first body portion 210, and the middle body portion 230 and the first body portion 210 is coupled to each other through the first sealing strip 211. Besides, a first middle sealing strip 231 may be provided at an edge of the middle body portion 230 and between the middle body portion 230 and the first body portion 210, and the middle body portion 230 and the first body portion 210 is coupled to each other through the first middle sealing strip 231. The first sealing strip 211 and the first middle sealing strip 231 serve the purpose of preventing water or moisture from infiltrating the gap between the first body portion 210 and the middle body portion 230.
[0046] Furthermore, a first slot 241 may be provided on the middle body portion 230, situated between the first sealing strip 211 and the first middle sealing strip 231. This arrangement allows draining of water or humidity that might enter the gap between the first body portion 210 and the middle body portion 230 through the first sealing strip 211 and / or the first middle sealing strip 231. The water or the humidity can be drained through the first slot 241. Specifically, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 5 through Fig. 7, because the middle body portion 230 is below the first body portion 210, the slot is provided on the middle body portion 230. A person skilled in the art will understand that, in alternative embodiments where the middle body portion 230 is above the first body portion 210 (not shown) , the first slot 241 will be provided on the first body portion 210.
[0047] Please refer to Fig. 9 through Fig. 12. In some embodiments, differently from the previous embodiment shown in Fig. 5 through Fig. 8 where the middle body portion 230 is attached to the second body portion 220, the middle body portion 230 is a separate body unattached to either of the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220.
[0048] Similar to the previous embodiment, in some embodiment, the middle body portion 230 may be either below or above the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220. Therefore, the middle body portion 230 may be at least partially covered by the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220, or the middle body portion 230 may partially cover the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220. It should be understood that the area of the overlap between the first body portion 210 and the middle body portion 230 may be either the same as or different from the area of the overlap between the second body portion 220 and the middle body portion 230. In short, the middle body portion 230 can be positioned above or below the first and second body portions 210, 220, leading to varying degrees of overlap; thus, the middle body portion 230 may be partially concealed by or partially cover the first and second body portions 210, 220.
[0049] Similar to the previous embodiment, in some embodiment, in response to at least one of the first distal end 113 and the second distal end 123 being actuated to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130, the length of the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 increases or decreases, and the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 overlaps more or less with the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220. Also, the overall length of the extendable and contractible vehicle 200 may be maintained at various dimensions as needed.
[0050] In some embodiment, sealing strips may also be provided to prevent water or humidity from entering the gaps between the first body portion 210 and the middle body portion 230 as well as between the second body portion 220 and the third body portion 230. As shown in Fig. 10 and Fig. 11, in addition to the first sealing strip 211 and the first middle sealing strip 231, a second sealing strip 221 may be provided at an edge of the second body portion 220 and between the middle body portion 230 and the second body portion 220, and the middle body portion 230 and the second body portion 220 is coupled to each other through the second sealing strip 221. Besides, a second middle sealing strip 232 may be provided at the edge of the middle body portion 230 and between the middle body portion 230 and the second body portion 220, and the middle body portion 230 and the second body portion 220 is coupled to each other through the second middle sealing strip 232.
[0051] In some embodiment, slots may also be provided to drain the water or humidity from the gaps between the first body portion 210 and the middle body portion 230 as well as between the second body portion 220 and the third body portion 230. As shown in Fig. 11, in addition to the first slot 241, a second slot 242 may be provided on the middle body portion 230, situated between the first second sealing strip 221 and the second middle sealing strip 232. A person skilled in the art will understand that, in alternative embodiments where the middle body portion 230 is above the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220 (note shown) , the first slot 241 and the second slot 242 will be provided on the first body portion 210 and the second body portion, respectively.
[0052] Please refer to Fig. 13 through Fig. 18. In some embodiments, the middle body portion 230 may be connected to the first body portion 210 and the second body portion 220 and made of a flexible material. For example, the middle body portion may allow folding (as shown in Fig. 13 through Fig. 18) , or it may possess elastic properties (not shown) . In response to at least one of the first frame portion 110 and the second frame portion 120 being actuated to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130, the middle body portion 230 is extended or contracted.
[0053] Please refer to Fig. 19 and Fig. 20. In some embodiments, the middle body portion 230 may comprise multiple parts and is telescopic. In other words, one part of the middle body portion 230 can be slid out (extended) from another part of the middle body portion 230, increasing a length of the middle body portion 230; conversely, one part of the middle body portion 230 can be slid (retracted) into another part of the middle body portion 230, reducing a length of the middle body portion 230. In response to at least one of the first frame portion 110 and the second frame portion 120 being actuated to move in relation to the middle frame portion 130, the telescopic configuration of the middle body portion 230 is extended or contracted.
[0054] As above, the present disclosure provides a chassis and a vehicle which are extendable and contractible. The chassis and the vehicle offer flexibility to extend and contract based on specific needs. For example, the extension may be required when a larger storage capacity is desirable, and the contraction may be required when a smaller space occupied by the vehicle is desirable. In summary, this present disclosure presents an adaptable chassis and vehicle system capable of extension and contraction based on specific spatial needs, such as accommodating larger storage or occupying less space.
