Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] TITLE: COSMETIC COMPOSITION COMPRISING A SOLID FATTY ALCOHOL, A CATIONIC SURFACTANT, AN AMPHOTERIC SURFACTANT, A PARTICULAR NONIONIC POLYSACCHARIDE AND A CATIONIC POLYMER

[0003] The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition, notably a haircare composition, comprising at least one solid fatty alcohol, at least one cationic surfactant, at least one amphoteric surfactant, at least one nonionic polysaccharide chosen from nonionic guar gums, and at least one cationic polymer.

[0004] The invention also relates to a cosmetic treatment process, in particular for caring for keratin fibres, notably human keratin fibres such as the hair, comprising at least one step of applying the cosmetic composition according to the invention to said fibres.

[0005] The invention also relates to the use of said cosmetic composition for the cosmetic treatment, preferably the care, of keratin fibres, in particular of human keratin fibres such as the hair.

[0006] Natural hair or hair that has been treated via various chemical treatments may be dull, lacking care, damaged and embrittled by the action of external atmospheric agents such as light and bad weather, and also by mechanical or chemical treatments, such as brushing, combing, dyeing, bleaching, permanent-waving and / or relaxing, and repeated washing.

[0007] The hair thus ends up lacking care as regards natural hair, or damaged by these various factors, and may in the long run become dry, coarse, brittle, dull, split and / or limp.

[0008] To overcome these drawbacks, it is common practice to use haircare products that include compositions designed to care for and / or condition the hair in a suitable manner, providing it with satisfactory cosmetic properties, notably smoothness, sheen and a soft, natural feel (the hair is no longer coarse).

[0009] These haircare compositions may be, for example, conditioning shampoos, hair conditioners, masks, creams or serums. However, these haircare compositions are not always entirely satisfactory in terms of visual aesthetics such as the sheen, the soft and natural feel and / or the ease of application and spreading on the head of hair without running.

[0010] Thus, there is a need to provide a stable composition which is readily applied and spread on keratin fibres and which affords them cosmetic properties such as a soft, natural feel (the hair is no longer coarse), smoothness, sheen, suppleness, lightness, disentangling properties inducing ease of combing, and good manageability of the hair which is thus easily formed into shape.

[0011] The Applicant has thus discovered, surprisingly, that the combination of at least one solid fatty alcohol, at least one cationic surfactant, at least one amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactant, at least one particular nonionic polysaccharide and at least one cationic polymer allows these needs to be met.

[0012] Thus, one subject of the present invention is a cosmetic composition comprising:

[0013] (a) one or more solid fatty alcohols,

[0014] (b) one or more cationic surfactants,

[0015] (c) one or more amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactants,

[0016] (d) one or more nonionic polysaccharides chosen from nonionic guar gums, and

[0017] (e) one or more cationic polymers, the cosmetic composition having a content of anionic surfactant(s) of less than or equal to 2% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0018] The cosmetic composition according to the invention is stable and easy to use. In particular, it spreads evenly over the keratin fibres with a certain degree of glidance.

[0019] For the purposes of the present invention the term "stable" means that the composition changes little or not at all (for example, its visual appearance, its viscosity or its pH) over a period of storage, notably 2 months at 45°C.

[0020] The composition according to the invention can impart good cosmetic qualities, for example good smoothness, high sheen, a soft, natural feel (the hair is no longer rough) and suppleness, to keratin fibres, notably human keratin fibres such as the hair, and also an excellent coating that is uniform over the entire length of the keratin fibres.

[0021] A subject of the invention is also a cosmetic treatment process, notably for caring for keratin fibres, in particular human keratin fibres such as the hair, comprising at least one step of applying the cosmetic composition according to the invention to said fibres.

[0022] Another subject of the invention is the use of the cosmetic composition according to the invention for caring for keratin fibres, in particular human keratin fibres such as the hair.

[0023] Other subjects, features, aspects and advantages of the invention will emerge even more clearly on reading the description and the examples that follow.

[0024] In that which follows and unless otherwise indicated, the limits of a range of values are included within that range, notably in the expressions "between..." and “ ranging from ... to .

[0025] The term “at least one” used in the present description is equivalent to the term "one or more" .

[0026] Solid fatty alcohol(s) (a)

[0027] The composition according to the present invention comprises one or more solid fatty alcohols.

[0028] The term “fatty alcohol” means a long-chain aliphatic alcohol comprising from 8 to 40 carbon atoms, preferably from 10 to 30 carbon atoms, and comprising at least one hydroxyl group OH. These fatty alcohols are neither oxyalkylenated nor glycerolated.

[0029] The term “solid fatty alcohol” means a fatty alcohol with a melting point above 30°C at atmospheric pressure (1.013* 105Pa).

[0030] For the purposes of the present invention, the melting point corresponds to the temperature of the most endothermic peak observed on thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry or DSC) as described in the standard ISO 11357-3; 1999. The melting point may be measured using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), for example the calorimeter sold under the name MDSC 2920 by the company TA Instruments. [0135] The nonionic guar gums (polymer of mannose and galactose) that may be used according to the invention may be modified with Ci-Ce (poly)hydroxyalkyl groups. Among the Ci-Ce (poly)hydroxyalkyl groups, mention may be made, by way of example, of hydroxymethyl, hydroxy ethyl, hydroxypropyl and hydroxybutyl groups.

[0136] These guar gums are well known from the prior art and may be prepared, for example, by reacting corresponding alkene oxides, for instance propylene oxides, with the guar gum so as to obtain a guar gum modified with hydroxypropyl groups.

[0137] The degree of hydroxyalkylation preferably ranges from 0.4 to 1.2 and corresponds to the number of alkylene oxide molecules consumed by the number of free hydroxyl functions present on the guar gum.

[0138] Such nonionic guar gums optionally modified with hydroxyalkyl groups are sold, for example, under the trade names Jaguar HP8, Jaguar HP60, Jaguar HP 105 and Jaguar HP 120 by the company Rhodia Chimie.

[0139] Preferably, the non-associative nonionic polysaccharide(s) may be chosen from nonionic guar gums modified with Ci to Ce (poly)hydroxylalkyl groups, more preferentially from hydroxy(Ci-C4)alkyl guar gums, and better still from hydroxypropyl guar gums, and mixtures thereof.

[0140] The composition according to the invention may further comprise nonionic polysaccharide(s) that are different from nonionic guar gums. They may be chosen from non-associative nonionic polysaccharides different from nonionic guar gums, associative nonionic polysaccharides, and mixtures thereof.

[0159] The non-associative nonionic polysaccharides different from nonionic guar gums may be cellulose-based polymers not including a Cio to C30 fatty chain in their structure.

[0160] According to the invention, the term “cellulose-based polymer” refers to any polysaccharide compound bearing in its structure sequences of glucose residues linked together via P-1,4 bonds; in addition to unsubstituted celluloses, the cellulose derivatives may be anionic, cationic, amphoteric or nonionic.

[0416] More particularly, the composition according to the invention is used as a hair conditioner, notably as a hair mask.

[0417] The examples that follow serve to illustrate the invention without, however, being limiting in nature. Examples

[0418] Example 1

[0419] Compositions according to the invention were prepared from the ingredients indicated in Table 1 below. The amounts indicated in the table are expressed as weight percentages of active material (% AM), relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0420] [Table 1]

[0421] Composition 1 is stable on storage. In particular, no phase separation was observed after storage for 60 days at 45°C.

[0422] It has a thickened texture which avoids the risk of running onto the face and allows easy, even application from the roots to the ends of the hair.

[0423] Composition 1 was applied to wet hair, washed beforehand using a conventional shampoo. Composition 1 was easily spread over the keratin fibres.

[0424] It was then left on for a few minutes, and rinsed out.

[0425] After drying, the hair was found to be particularly shiny, soft and supple.

[0426] Example 2

[0427] The following compositions A and B were prepared from the ingredients indicated in Table 2 below. Composition A is a composition according to the invention and composition B is a comparative one. The amounts indicated in the table are expressed as weight percentages of active material (% AM), relative to the total weight of the composition. [Table 2]

[0428] A malleable head of moderately sensitized hair was used, which was washed beforehand with a standard shampoo.

[0429] The hair of the head was equally split in two sides. On one side, composition A was applied at a rate of 9 g. per half-head, and spread evenly from the roots to the ends. The same procedure was carried out with composition B on the other half-head.

[0430] The compositions were then left 5 minutes and rinsed-out. The properties of wet hair were evaluated in terms of disentangling and smoothness.

[0431] The hair was then blow-dried and its properties were evaluated in terms of disentangling, suppleness and smoothness.

[0432] As regards disentangling, the expert passes a fine-tooth comb through the hair from the top to the tips and evaluates the ease of combing. The evaluation of smoothness is tactile. An expert grasps a lock between thumb and forefinger and slides his fingers along the lock from the top to the tips. She or he evaluates if the hair has roughness and if it does not catch the fingers.

[0433] The evaluation of suppleness is tactile. An expert takes the hair in his hands and tries to bend it. She or he assesses whether the hair bends easily, whether it is malleable.

[0434] The properties were evaluated by 5 experts, trained in the evaluation of haircare products. Each expert judged which side had the easiest disentangling, the best suppleness and the smoothest feel and used the following marking:

[0435] ■ « + » when the side has the best performance, ■ « = » when the sides have the same performance,

[0436] ■ « - » when the side has the worst performance.

[0437] Upon application of the compositions, 100% of the experts judged composition A according to the invention to be easier to apply because it was more penetrating.

[0438] The results concerning the disentangling and the smoothness of wet hair are indicated in table 3 below and the results concerning the disentangling, the suppleness and the smoothness of dry hair are indicated in tables 4-5 below.

[0439] [Table 3]: Results on wet hair

[0440] [Table 5]: Results on dry hair Composition A according to the invention allows significantly improved cosmetic properties in terms of disentangling and smoothness on wet hair and disentangling, suppleness and smoothness on dry hair.
