Abstract
Description
Slide printer and how to operate it
[0001] The present invention relates to a slide printer and a method of operating the same. More particularly, it relates to a device for marking printed information on the surface of a slide and a method of operating the device.
[0002] When conducting tissue examinations in pathology departments, clinical pathology laboratories, etc. of hospitals, slides in the form of flat plates with transparency or translucency (e.g., see M in Fig. 1) are used.
[0003] A tissue section is attached to a portion of a slide (see M2 in FIG. 1 below), and information for identifying the attached tissue section is written on another portion of the slide (see M1 in FIG. 1 below). For example, methods for writing the information include direct writing, attaching a label with written information, and printing (marking) using a device such as a slide printer.
[0004] Directly writing and labeling slides can be time-consuming and prone to errors. Consequently, printing (marking) using devices such as slide printers is increasingly being adopted.
[0005] For example, Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2488428 and U.S. Patent Publication No. 2016-0185132 disclose slide printers.
[0006] Meanwhile, glass slides, polymer slides, and other materials can be used as slides, but most lack adhesive strength, making it difficult to attach tissue sections. In particular, thermal transfer slide printers using thermal transfer ribbons are widely used, which further limits the available slides.
[0007] An object of the present invention is to provide a slide printer and an operating method thereof that can improve the adhesion of a slide to a tissue section.
[0008] A slide printer according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention may include a transport unit for transporting a slide including a first region and a second region; a printing unit for marking printing information on at least a portion of the first region of the slide; and an adhesive application unit provided adjacent to the printing unit for applying adhesive to at least a portion of the second region of the slide.
[0009] In one embodiment, the printing unit and the adhesive application unit may be provided adjacent to each other so that the adhesive can be applied to at least a portion of the second area of the slide while the printing information is being marked on at least a portion of the first area of the slide.
[0010] In one embodiment, the adhesive application unit may apply the adhesive in a spot shape to one to five points of the second area of the slide.
[0011] In one embodiment, the slide may further include a heating unit that applies heat to the second region.
[0012] In one embodiment, the adhesive may include at least one of an adhesive that melts by heat and solidifies by cooling; and an adhesive that solifies by heat and gels by cooling.
[0013] In one embodiment, the adhesive may comprise a protein-based adhesive comprising at least one of an albumin adhesive, a gelatin adhesive, an agarose adhesive, and a casein adhesive.
[0014] In one embodiment, the heating unit can apply heat at a temperature 10°C to 30°C lower than the melting temperature of the adhesive.
[0015] In one embodiment, the transport unit may include a transport track along which the slide moves. When the slide reaches a predetermined position on the transport track, the printing unit may mark printing information on at least a portion of the first area of the slide, the adhesive application unit may apply adhesive to at least a portion of the second area of the slide, and the heating unit may apply heat to the second area of the slide.
[0016] In one embodiment, the heating unit and the adhesive application unit may face each other with the transfer track interposed therebetween.
[0017] In one embodiment, the heating unit can apply heat to at least a portion of the transport track corresponding to the second region of the slide when the slide is positioned at the predetermined position of the transport track.
[0018] In one embodiment, the transport track has an inclined surface, and the slide can move along the inclined surface. The transport unit may further include a stopping means for preventing or allowing movement of the slide. The stopping means may prevent movement of the slide when the slide reaches the predetermined position of the transport track, and may allow movement of the slide when marking of the printed information and application of the adhesive are completed.
[0019] In one embodiment, the transport track may have a slope that descends in a direction from the printing section toward the adhesive application section. The adhesive application section may apply the adhesive to a region of the second region of the slide adjacent to a boundary between the first region of the slide and the second region of the slide.
[0020] In one embodiment, when the second region of the slide is divided into four equal areas along a direction D from the first region of the slide toward the second region of the slide, and the regions into which the second region of the slide is divided into four are defined as a 2-1 region, a 2-2 region, a 2-3 region, and a 2-4 region based on the direction D, the adhesive application unit may apply the adhesive to at least one of the 2-1 region and the 2-2 region.
[0021] In one embodiment, the adhesive application unit can apply the adhesive to the 2-1 region and the 2-3 region.
[0022] According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a method of operating the above-described slide printer may be provided. The method of operating the slide printer may include the steps of: transporting the slide to a predetermined position on the transport track of the transport unit; marking printing information on the first area of the slide; and applying adhesive to the second area of the slide.
[0023] In one embodiment, the method of operating the slide printer may further include the step of applying heat to the second region of the slide.
[0024] In one embodiment, the step of applying the adhesive and the step of applying heat may be performed during the step of marking the printing information.
[0025] According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a slide printer and an operating method thereof can be provided that can improve the adhesion of a slide to a tissue section.

[0034] Additionally, when it is described herein that a first component is “connected” or “coupled” to a second component, it may mean that the first component is directly connected or coupled to the second component, or it may mean that the first component is connected or coupled to the second component via a third component.
[0035] In this specification, the phrase "the second layer is formed "on" the first layer may include not only the case where the second layer is formed directly on the first layer, but also the case where another third layer is interposed between the first layer and the second layer. Conversely, the phrase "the second layer is formed "directly on" the first layer may indicate that no other third layer is interposed between the first layer and the second layer.
[0036] The division of components in this specification is merely based on the primary function each component is responsible for. In other words, two or more components may be combined into a single component, or a single component may be further subdivided into two or more components with more specific functions. Furthermore, each component may, in addition to its own primary function, additionally perform some or all of the functions performed by other components. Furthermore, some of the primary functions of each component may be exclusively performed by other components.
[0037] Meanwhile, for each step, unless the context clearly dictates a specific order, the steps may be performed in a different order than stated. That is, the steps may be performed in the same order as stated, may be performed substantially simultaneously, or may be performed in the opposite order.
[0038] In this specification, “and / or” may mean each of the listed components and any combination of two or more of the listed components.
[0039] FIG. 1 illustrates a slide (M) that can be used in a slide printer according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0040] Referring to FIG. 1, the slide (M) may have a flat shape, and the upper surface of the slide (M) may include a first region (M1) and a second region (M2). For example, a tissue section may be attached to at least a portion of the second region (M2), and printed information including information that can identify the attached tissue section may be marked on the first region (M1).
[0041] For example, the slide (M) may be transparent or translucent. For example, the slide (M) may be made of glass, a polymer, or the like.
[0042] According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a slide printer capable of marking printing information on a slide (M) and improving the adhesion of the slide (M) to a tissue section can be provided.
[0043] FIG. 2 is a block diagram schematically showing the structure of a slide printer according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIGS. 3 and 4 are cross-sectional views schematically showing the structure of a slide printer according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0044] Referring to FIGS. 2 to 4, the slide printer (10) may include an inlet (100), an outlet (200), a transport section (300), a printing section (400), and an adhesive application section (500).
[0045] The entry port (100) may be an entrance through which a slide (M) is fed into the slide printer (10). Alternatively, if the slide printer (10) includes a slide storage unit (not shown) in which a plurality of slides are stored, the entry port (100) may be an exit through which the slide (M) is discharged from the slide storage unit so that the slide (M) may enter the transport unit (300).
[0046] The exit (200) may refer to an exit through which a slide (M) on which marking and adhesive application have been completed is discharged from the slide printer (10).
[0047] The transport unit (300) can transport the slide (M) to a predetermined position. For example, the transport unit (300) can include a transport track (310), and the slide (M) can move along the transport track (310). For example, the position where the printing information is marked and the adhesive is applied can be preset, and the transport unit (300) can transport the slide (M) to the preset position. In addition, the transport unit (300) can transport the slide (M) from the entrance (100) to the exit (200).
[0048] In one embodiment, the transport track (310) may include a slope that descends from the entry port (100) toward the exit port (200). That is, the entry port (100) may be positioned higher than the exit port (200). Accordingly, the slide (M) may move along the slope by gravity. For example, the slope angle (i.e., the acute angle formed when the horizontal plane and the slope meet) of the slope may be 30° to 80°, 45° to 75°, or 50° to 75°.
[0049] In some embodiments, the transport unit (300) may further include a stop means (320) that prevents or allows movement of the slide (M) and a stop means drive unit (330) that drives the stop means (320). For example, the slide (M) may be fixed to a preset position of the transport track (310) by the stop means (320). For example, the stop means drive unit (330) may include a motor, an actuator, or the like.
[0050] For example, as illustrated in FIG. 3, the transport track (310) may include a hole (provided that the hole itself does not impede the movement of the slide (M). A stopping means (320) may be provided at the lower portion of the transport track (310) to reversibly intervene or not intervene in the movement path of the slide (M) through the hole, thereby preventing or allowing the movement of the slide (M). As another example, the stopping means (320) may be provided at the upper portion of the transport track (310) to reversibly intervene or not intervene in the movement path of the slide (M), thereby preventing or allowing the movement.
[0051] In some embodiments, the transport track (310) may include a transport belt (312), as illustrated in FIG. 4. In this case, the transport unit (300) may further include a transport belt drive unit (314); a plurality of transport rollers (316) that rotate by the transport belt drive unit (314) to rotate the transport belt (320) to one side; and a sensor (318) that senses whether the slide (M) has reached a preset position of the transport belt (320). For example, the transport belt drive unit (314) may include a motor, etc. For example, when it is determined by the sensor (318) that the slide (M) has reached the preset position, the transport belt (312) may be stopped to fix the slide (M) to the preset position.
[0052] The printing unit (400) can mark predetermined printing information on at least a portion of the first area (M1) of the slide (M). For example, the printing information can be received from another user device or input into an input unit (not shown) provided by the slide printer.
[0053] The printing unit (400) may be equipped with a printing means capable of implementing a known printing method without any special limitations. For example, as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4 , the printing unit (400) may be equipped with a thermal transfer printing means using a thermal transfer ribbon. In this case, the printing unit (400) may include a print head (410); and a printing roller (420) on which a ribbon tape (430) is mounted. In addition, the printing unit (400) may further include a driving unit (not shown) that moves the print head (410) or rotates the printing roller (420) so that the ribbon tape (430) is wound or unwound. As another example, the printing unit (400) may be equipped with a printing means capable of implementing an ink and toner printing method.
[0054] The adhesive application unit (500) can apply adhesive to at least a portion of the second area (M2) of the slide (M). For example, the adhesive application unit (500) can be provided adjacent to the printing unit (400). The adhesive application unit (500) can apply adhesive after the marking of the printing information on the first area (M1) of the slide (M) is completed, or can apply adhesive while the marking of the printing information is being performed.
[0055] For example, the adhesive application unit (500) may include a nozzle (510) through which adhesive is ejected and an adhesive storage unit (620) connected to the nozzle and containing the adhesive. One or more nozzles (510) may be provided. In addition, the adhesive application unit (500) may further include a driving unit (not shown) that opens and closes the nozzle (510).
[0056] In one embodiment, an adhesive application unit (500) may be provided adjacent to the printing unit (400) so that adhesive can be applied to at least a portion of a second area (M2) while printing information is being marked on at least a portion of a first area (M1) of a slide (M). In this case, the slide printing speed, i.e., the ejection speed of a slide on which printing information is marked and adhesive is applied, can be improved.
[0057] In one embodiment, the adhesive application unit (500) may apply adhesive in the form of spots to 1 to 10 points, 1 to 5 points, or 2 to 4 points in the second region (M2) of the slide (M). For example, if the adhesive is applied to 4 points, the adhesive may be applied to points corresponding to the four corners of the tissue section to be attached in the second region (M2).
[0058] In one embodiment, the adhesive application unit (500) can apply adhesive in a linear shape to at least a portion of the second region (M2) of the slide (M).
[0059] In one embodiment, the printing unit (400) and the adhesive application unit (500) may be sequentially provided in the direction from the entrance (100) to the exit (200). In addition, the slide (M) may be adjusted so that the second region (M2) of the slide (M) is positioned forward of the first region (M1) when entering the transfer track (320). In this case, according to the above-described embodiment, when the transfer track (320) has the above-described slope, the slide (M) has a slope that descends in the direction from the first region (M1) toward the second region (M2) (i.e., in the transfer track (320), the first region (M1) of the slide (M) is positioned higher than the second region (M2).
[0060] At this time, in some embodiments, the adhesive application unit (500) may apply adhesive to an area adjacent to the boundary line (ML) between the first area (M1) and the second area (M2) among the second area (M2) of the slide (M). In this case, the adhesive may flow along the slope formed on the slide (M) and spread thinly on its own. Accordingly, the adhesive layer may be formed wide and thin, thereby improving efficiency when attaching tissue sections.
[0061] As illustrated in FIG. 1, the second region (M2) of the slide (M) is divided into four equal areas along the direction D from the first region (M1) toward the second region (M2), and the four divided regions can be defined as a second-first region (M21), a second-second region (M22), a second-third region (M23), and a second-fourth region (M24) based on the direction D.
[0062] In some embodiments, the adhesive application unit (500) may apply adhesive to at least one of the second-first region (M21) and the second-second region (M22). In other embodiments, the adhesive may be applied to the second-first region (M21) and the second-third region (M23). In this case, the adhesive layer can be easily formed to be wide and thin, thereby improving efficiency when attaching tissue sections.
[0063] In one embodiment, the adhesive may include an adhesive that melts by heat and solidifies by cooling (e.g., a thermoplastic resin adhesive, a hot melt adhesive, etc.); an adhesive that solifies by heat and gels by cooling, etc. For example, the adhesive may include a protein-based adhesive including an albumin adhesive, a gelatin adhesive, an agarose adhesive, a casein adhesive, etc. In this case, the adhesive storage unit (620) may include a heating device (not shown) or a stirring device (not shown) so that the contained adhesive can be maintained in a molten state (or sol state) without solidifying (or gelling).
[0064] In one embodiment, the slide printer (10) may further include a heating unit (600) that applies heat to the second region (M2) of the slide (M) and / or the adhesive applied to the second region (M2). Accordingly, the applied adhesive can be prevented from solidifying. In addition, when the aforementioned slope is formed on the slide (M), the applied adhesive can be spread more widely and thinly.
[0065] Here, applying heat can include not only the concept of directly applying heat to a given object, but also the concept of transferring heat to a given object through another object. In other words, radiant heat transfer, convective heat transfer, and conductive heat transfer can all be included in the concept of applying heat.
[0066] Examples of the heating unit (600) include a hot air generating device, a heating device, etc., and known devices suitable for the purpose of the present invention can be employed as the heating unit (600).
[0067] In one embodiment, the heating unit (600) can apply heat at a temperature lower than the melting temperature of the aforementioned adhesive by 5°C to 60°C, 10°C to 50°C, 10°C to 40°C, or 10°C to 30°C. Accordingly, the adhesive can be prevented from solidifying (or excessive gelation) and the adhesive can be prevented from flowing excessively when the aforementioned slope is formed on the slide (M).
[0068] In some embodiments, the heating unit (600) may be provided facing the adhesive application unit (500), more specifically, the nozzle (510) of the adhesive application unit (500). For example, the heating unit (600) and the adhesive application unit (500) may face each other with the transport track (310) interposed therebetween.
[0069] For example, the heating unit (600) may be provided adjacent to the transport track (310). For another example, the heating unit (600) may be provided so as to be in direct contact with the transport track (310). Accordingly, the heating unit (600) may apply heat to at least a portion of the transport track (310) corresponding to the second region (M2) of the slide (M) when the slide (M) is positioned at the aforementioned preset position (i.e., the position where the adhesive is applied). The heat may be transferred to the applied adhesive via the transport track (310) and the slide (M).
[0070] For example, the heating unit (600) may be operated while the slide printer (10) is operated; from the time when marking of the print information begins until the time when marking of the print information ends; or for a predetermined time (e.g., the time until marking of the print information ends) after the adhesive is applied.
[0071] In some embodiments, as described above, the adhesive application unit (500) may apply adhesive while marking the printed information. In this case, the heating unit (600) may apply heat to the applied adhesive to prevent the applied adhesive from solidifying (or excessively gelling) during the marking of the printed information. Furthermore, if the slide (M) is formed with the aforementioned incline, the adhesive may be spread more quickly, more widely, and more thinly.
[0072] The control unit (700) can control the overall functions and operations of the slide printer (10). That is, the control unit (700) can control the aforementioned components of the slide printer (10). That is, the control unit (700) can provide information or data necessary for the operation of the components of the slide printer (10) and perform operations based on information or data generated or managed by the components. For example, the control unit (700) can include at least one processor, at least one circuit, etc. The control unit (700) can perform the necessary control so that the device operates according to various embodiments described herein.
[0073] The storage unit (800) can store data used in the slide printer (10), software for the operation of components, programs, and commands. In addition, the storage unit (800) can provide stored data under the control of the control unit (700). In addition, the storage unit (800) can store applications, drivers, etc. to be driven by the control unit (700). For example, the storage unit (800) can include RAM such as DRAM, SRAM, etc.; ROM; EEPROM; HDD; SSD; flash storage means, etc.
[0074] The communication unit (900) can perform functions for transmitting and receiving signals with other devices. The communication unit (900) performs wired or wireless communication and can process signals under the control of the control unit (700). For example, the communication unit (900) may include an RF circuit, an antenna, etc. for wireless communication, or a connection terminal, a modem, a driver module, etc. for wired communication. For example, the communication unit (900) can support at least one of various communication protocols, such as cellular communication such as LTE and 5G, short-range wireless communication such as WiFi and Bluetooth, and short-range wired communication such as Ethernet.
[0075] Although not shown in FIG. 2, the slide printer (10) may further include a power supply (power supply, battery, etc.), a display unit (e.g., display, etc.), an input unit (e.g., touch panel, button, etc.), an output unit, etc.
[0076] The slide printer (10) may include a housing (1000), a mounting portion (2000), and a support portion (3000).
[0077] The housing (1000) can form the exterior and interior space of the slide printer (10) together with the support member (3000), and the components of the slide printer (10) described above can be provided in the interior space. The mounting member (2000) can be coupled to the support member (3000), and the components of the slide printer (10) described above can be installed in the mounting member (2000) or the support member (3000).
[0078] FIG. 5 is a flowchart illustrating a slide printing method (i.e., an operating method of the slide printer) using the aforementioned slide printer (10). Hereinafter, the slide printing method using the slide printer (10) will be described in more detail with reference to FIG. 5. However, the aforementioned contents may be omitted to avoid redundant description.
[0079] Referring to FIG. 5, the slide (M) can be moved to a predetermined position (i.e., a preset position) of the transfer track (310) (S101). For example, the slide (M) can enter the transfer track (310) through the entry port (100) and move along the transfer track (310) to a preset position by the transfer unit (300).
[0080] Print information can be marked on at least a portion of the first area (M1) of the slide (M) (S102). For example, when the slide (M) reaches a preset position of the transport track (310), the printing unit (400) can mark print information on the first area (M1) of the slide (M).
[0081] An adhesive may be applied to at least a portion of the second region (M2) of the slide (M) (S103). For example, when the slide (M) reaches a preset position of the transport track (310), the adhesive application unit (500) may apply adhesive to at least a portion of the second region (M2) of the slide (M).
[0082] In one embodiment, step S103 may be performed while step S102 is in progress. Accordingly, the discharge speed of the slide on which the printing information has been marked and the adhesive has been applied can be improved.
[0083] When the slide (M) is positioned at a preset position, heat may be applied to at least a portion of the transport track (310) corresponding to the second region (M2) of the slide (M); and / or the second region (M2) of the slide (M) (S104). For example, heat may be transferred to the adhesive applied via the transport track (310) and the slide (M). For example, this may be performed by the heating unit (300) of S103.
[0084] In one embodiment, step S104 may be performed at least while step S102 is in progress. That is, step S104 may be performed before step S102 is performed, may be performed only while step S102 is in progress, may be performed after step S103 is performed until step S102 is completed, or may be performed for a predetermined period of time after step S102 is completed. Accordingly, the applied adhesive can be prevented from solidifying (or excessive gelation).
[0085] A slide with printed information marked and adhesive applied can be ejected from the slide printer (10) (S105). Accordingly, slide printing using the slide printer (10) can be terminated.
[0086] References to "one embodiment" of the principles of the present invention and various variations of this expression in this specification mean that a particular feature, structure, characteristic, etc., is included in at least one embodiment of the principles of the present invention in connection with that embodiment.
