Description

Electrode production device and battery cell including electrode produced using the same, and battery pack and vehicle including battery cell

[0001] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0127428, filed on September 22, 2023, and all contents disclosed in the specification and drawings of the said application are incorporated by reference into this application.

[0002] The present invention relates to an electrode production device and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell, and more particularly, to an electrode production device capable of improving electrode quality and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell.

[0003] In general, a secondary battery refers to a battery that can be repeatedly charged and discharged, such as a lithium-ion battery, a lithium polymer battery, a nickel-cadmium battery, a nickel-hydrogen battery, or a nickel-zinc battery.

[0004] Secondary batteries can be classified into cylindrical and prismatic batteries, in which the electrode assembly is built into a cylindrical or prismatic metal can, and pouch-type batteries, in which the electrode assembly is built into a pouch-type case made of aluminum laminate sheet, depending on the shape of the battery case.

[0005] These secondary batteries can be manufactured by housing an electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode that are mutually laminated with a separator between them, and an electrolyte material in a case of various shapes, and sealing the case.

[0006] The electrode (positive electrode or negative electrode) of a secondary battery may include a support portion on which a coating layer is formed by pressing an electrode mixture onto the surface of an electrode foil, and a non-support portion on which the coating layer is not formed.

[0007] In addition, the electrode of the secondary battery can be produced through a roll-to-roll process in which an electrode foil having a coating layer formed on the surface is wound and moved around rolls. Here, the electrode foil is rolled by a rolling roll while moving from roll to roll. Here, the rolling roll presses the holding portion and does not contact the non-holding portion, so there is a difference in the elongation of the holding portion and the non-holding portion. In this case, there is a problem in that wrinkles or ripples occur in the non-holding portion, which deteriorates the quality of the electrode.

[0008] Accordingly, the technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide an electrode production device capable of improving electrode quality by minimizing the difference in elongation between the retention portion and the non-retaining portion of an electrode foil, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and an automobile including the battery cell.

[0014] In one embodiment, the device may include a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature inside the protrusion; and a control unit for controlling the operation of the heater unit based on the temperature inside the protrusion measured by the temperature sensor.

[0015] In one embodiment, the rotating roller has a non-projecting portion on the side of the protruding portion, and a cooling member may be provided on the inside of the non-projecting portion.

[0016] In one embodiment, the rotary roller may include a rotary body having a space formed therein; and a rotary shaft extending integrally from the rotary body and rotating together with the rotary body.

[0017] In one embodiment, the rotary roller may be penetrated through the rotary axis and further include a fixed member fixed to the outside, and a bearing may be mounted between the fixed member and the rotary axis.

[0018] In one embodiment, the power supply line may be installed on the inside of the fixing member.

[0019] In one embodiment, the cooling member may include a spray nozzle that sprays a cooling fluid into the non-protruding portion; a connecting passage connected to the spray nozzle; and a fluid supply source connected to the connecting passage that supplies the fluid.

[0020] In one embodiment, the fluid may be air or water.

[0021] In one embodiment, a blocking partition may be formed between the protruding portion and the non-protruding portion to prevent heat supplied to the protruding portion from moving to the non-protruding portion.

[0022] In one embodiment, the blocking baffle may be formed of a material having lower thermal conductivity than the rotating roller.

[0023] In one embodiment, the maintenance pressurization unit may include a pressurization roller.

[0024] Meanwhile, according to another aspect of the present invention, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the electrode production device described above may be provided, and further, a battery pack including at least one battery cell described above may be provided, and further, an automobile including at least one battery cell described above may be provided.

[0025] Embodiments of the present invention have the effect of improving electrode quality by minimizing the difference in elongation between the holding portion and the non-stick portion of the electrode foil.

[0039] FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of an electrode production device according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view of a non-additional pressurizing unit in an electrode production device according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a non-additional pressurizing unit in an electrode production device according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A' of FIG. 2, FIG. 5 is a drawing illustrating a modified embodiment of FIG. 4, and FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B' of FIG. 2.

[0040] Referring to FIG. 1, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention relates to a device for producing an electrode (anode or cathode) by transporting an electrode foil (900) on which a coating layer (910) is formed. The electrode is a concept that includes both a wet electrode and a dry electrode.

[0041] For example, a wet electrode is manufactured by applying an electrode mixture in a slurry state including a solvent to the surface of an electrode substrate such as an electrode foil (900) to form a coating layer (910), and drying the coating layer (910).

[0042] And, the dry electrode is manufactured through a process of forming a coating layer (910) by pressing an electrode mixture in a powder state (powder mixture) that does not contain a solvent onto the surface of an electrode foil (900). That is, the electrode mixture is mixed without a liquid medium such as a solvent or dispersion medium, and then the electrode mixture in a powder state is pressed while passing it through a rolling roll, for example.

[0043] Here, the electrode foil (900) may include a holding portion (920) on which a coating layer (910) of an active material is formed on the surface, and a non-conductive portion (930) on which the coating layer (910) of the active material is not formed.

[0044] Referring to FIG. 1, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a transport unit (100), a maintenance pressure unit (200) (200), and a non-maintenance pressure unit (300).

[0045] The transport unit (100) transports the electrode foil (900) on which the coating layer (910) is formed. The transport unit (100) may be various, and may include, for example, a plurality of transport rollers (110) to transport the electrode foil (900) in a roll-to-roll manner.

[0046] However, the transport unit (100) is not limited thereto, but for convenience of explanation, an embodiment in which the transport unit (100) includes a plurality of transport rollers (110) will be described below. In addition, the arrows in Fig. 1 indicate the transport direction of the electrode foil (900).

[0047] The maintenance pressurization unit (200) pressurizes the maintenance portion (920) of the electrode foil (900) conveyed by the conveyance unit (100). The maintenance pressurization unit (200) may be configured in various ways, and may include, for example, a pressurization roller (210), but is not limited thereto.

[0048] Referring to FIG. 1, a coating layer (910) of an active material is formed on the holding portion (920) of the electrode foil (900), and the coating layer (910) is not formed on the non-conductive portion (930), so the holding portion (920) is thicker than the non-conductive portion (930).

[0049] Here, if only the holding portion (920) is pressurized by the holding pressure unit (200), the non-pressurized non-coated portion (930) may be wrinkled or wavy or deformed during transport by the transport roller (110). In order to prevent the formation of wrinkles or wavy or deformation of the non-coated portion (930), the electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes the non-coated pressure unit (300). However, even if the non-coated portion (930) is pressurized by the non-coated pressure unit (300), a difference may occur in the elongation of the holding portion (930) and the non-coated portion (930).

[0050] Accordingly, the electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention can minimize the difference in elongation between the holding portion (930) and the non-heating portion (930) by including the heat supply member (400), and a detailed description thereof will be provided later.

[0051] The non-pressurizing unit (300) is separated from the maintenance pressure unit (200) and pressurizes the non-pressurizing unit (930).

[0052] Referring to Fig. 2, the non-protruding pressure unit (300) may include a rotating roller (310) and a protruding portion (312). In addition, a non-protruding portion (313) is formed on the side of the protruding portion (312).

[0053] Referring to FIG. 1, the rotary roller (310) rotates by contacting the electrode foil (900). The manner in which the rotary roller (310) rotates may vary. For example, it may rotate by being coupled to a belt (316, see FIG. 3).

[0054] Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, the rotary roller (310) may include a rotary body (311) and a rotary shaft (315).

[0055] The rotating body (311) may have a space formed therein. In addition, a heat supply member (400) and a cooling member (700), which will be described later, may be installed in the space inside the rotating body (311). The heat supply member (400) may be provided on the inner side of the protruding portion (312), and the cooling member (700) may be provided on the inner side of the non-protruding portion (313).

[0056] The rotation shaft (315) extends integrally from the rotation body (311) and rotates together with the rotation body (311). The rotation shaft (315) may be configured to rotate by being coupled to a belt (316). That is, for example, when a belt (316) wrapped around the rotation shaft (315) rotates, the rotation shaft (315) coupled to the belt (316) also rotates. However, the rotation method of the rotation shaft (315) is not limited thereto. The belt (316) may be connected to various driving sources such as a motor and rotate.

[0057] The rotation shaft (315) may have a hollow portion formed in the center, and the fixed member (600) may be configured to penetrate the rotation roller (310) through the hollow portion of the rotation shaft (315).

[0058] Referring to FIG. 3, the fixed member (600) penetrates the rotary roller (310) through the rotary shaft (315) and is fixed to the outside. For example, as described above, since a hollow space is formed in the rotary shaft (315), the fixed member (600) penetrates the hollow space of the rotary shaft (315) and the rotary body (311).

[0059] Here, the fixed member (600) can be supported by being coupled to a support (620) arranged on the outside of the rotary roller (310). In addition, various types of bearings (610) can be coupled between the fixed member (600) and the rotary shaft (315). In this way, when the fixed member (600) is coupled to and fixed to the support (620) on the outside of the rotary roller (310) by penetrating the rotary shaft (315) and the rotary body (311), even if the rotary shaft (315) and the rotary body (311) rotate, the fixed member (600) will not rotate.

[0060] At this time, a bearing (610) can be coupled between the fixed member (600) and the rotary shaft (315), so that friction between the rotary shaft (315) and the fixed member (600) is reduced.

[0061] And, referring again to FIG. 3, the power supply line (420) of the heat supply member (400) described later and the connection path (720) of the cooling member (700) can pass between the fixed member (600). That is, the power supply line (420) of the heat supply member (400) and the connection path (720) of the cooling member (700) can be installed on the inside of the fixed member (600). Accordingly, even if the rotation shaft (315) and the rotation body (311) rotate, the power supply line (420) and the connection path (720) do not rotate, so that twisting or interference can be prevented.

[0062] One or more protrusions (312) are provided and formed to protrude from the rotating body (311) of the rotating roller (310). For example, one or more protrusions (312) may be spaced apart at a preset interval and protrude from the rotating body (311) of the rotating roller (310).

[0063] In addition, the protrusion (312) may be formed integrally with the rotating body (311). However, the protrusion (312) does not necessarily have to be formed integrally with the rotating body (311), and the protrusion (312) may be detachably coupled to the rotating body (311).

[0064] Referring to FIG. 1, the protrusion (312) protrudes from the rotating body (311) of the rotating roller (310), so that it can come into contact with the non-conductive part (930) and also press the non-conductive part (930) of the electrode foil (900).

[0065] Referring to FIG. 3, a heat supply member (400) is provided in the non-heating pressurization unit (300) to supply heat to the non-heating member (930). For example, the heat supply member (400) may be mounted on the inside of the protrusion (312).

[0066] The heat supply member (400) may include a heater unit (410), a power supply line (420), and a power supply source (430).

[0067] The heater unit (410) may be installed inside the protrusion (312). The heater unit (410) may be installed in various directions. In addition, the number of heater units (410) may be installed in various ways. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, one heater unit (410) may be installed facing downward with respect to FIG. 4.

[0068] And, referring to FIG. 5 as a modified embodiment, three heater parts (410) may be installed facing left, right, and downward. However, this is only one embodiment, and the direction and number of heater parts (410) may be more diverse. For example, multiple heater parts (410) may be provided and arranged along the perimeter of the protrusion (312).

[0069] The heater part (410) supplies heat to the internal space of the protrusion part (312), thereby increasing the temperature of the protrusion part (312). In addition, as described above, the protrusion part (312) contacts the non-coated part (930) and presses the non-coated part (930), so when the protrusion part (312), whose temperature has been increased by the heater part (410), presses the non-coated part (930), the elongation of the non-coated part (930) can be maximized by the heat. In addition, the difference in elongation between the holding part (920) and the non-coated part (930) can be minimized.

[0070] Meanwhile, the heater unit (410) may be a wireless heater that operates wirelessly.

[0071] The power supply line (420) is connected to the heater unit (410) and transmits energy (e.g., electric energy) supplied from the power supply source (430) to the heater unit (410). The power supply line (420) includes various types of wires through which electricity flows.

[0072] The power supply line (420) is connected to the heater part (410) through the fixed member (600), and even if the rotary roller (310) rotates, the fixed member (600) is fixed, so the power supply line (420) does not rotate, thereby preventing the power supply line (420) from being twisted.

[0073] The power supply source (430) supplies power to the heater unit (410) via the power supply line (420). The power supply source (430) may be various, and may be, for example, various types of batteries that supply electric energy to the heater unit (410), but is not limited thereto.

[0074] The temperature sensor (500) is configured to measure the temperature inside the protrusion (312). The temperature sensor (500) may be coupled to the inside or outside of the protrusion (312). The temperature sensor (500) may be connected to the control unit (510) by a wire, but may also be controlled wirelessly by the control unit (510). When the temperature sensor (500) is connected to the control unit (510) by a wire, the temperature sensor (500) may be installed on the fixing member (600).

[0075] The control unit (510) controls the operation of the heater unit (410) based on the temperature inside the protrusion (312) measured by the temperature sensor (500). The temperature of the protrusion (312) at which the difference in elongation between the holding unit (920) and the non-holding unit (930) can be minimized may vary depending on the model of the battery cell (20). Here, the optimal temperature of the protrusion (312) for each model can be determined through experiments.

[0076] And, the optimal temperature of the protrusion (312) for each model is input in advance into the control unit (510), and the control unit (510) compares the actual temperature of the protrusion (312) measured by the temperature sensor (500) with the optimal temperature input into the control unit (510) and controls the operation of the heater unit (410) according to the result.

[0077] For example, if the temperature actually measured at the protrusion (312) is lower than the optimum temperature input to the control unit (510), the control unit (510) controls to increase the temperature of the heater unit (410), and if the temperature actually measured at the protrusion (312) is higher than the optimum temperature input to the control unit (510), the control unit (510) controls to lower the temperature of the heater unit (410).

[0078] Referring to FIG. 3, a cooling member (700) can be installed in a non-protruding portion (313) of a non-pressurized unit (300). The cooling member (700) prevents the temperature of the non-protruding portion (313) from rising due to heat provided from a heat supply member (400) installed in the protruding portion (312).

[0079] That is, the non-protruding portion (313) comes into contact with the holding portion (920) of the electrode foil (900), and when the temperature of the non-protruding portion (313) rises, the elongation of the holding portion (920) increases, and thereby, the difference in elongation between the holding portion (920) and the non-protruding portion (930) also increases.

[0080] Accordingly, the cooling member (700) prevents the temperature of the non-protruding portion (313) from rising, thereby preventing an increase in the elongation of the holding portion (920). In addition, the heat supply member (400) increases the temperature of the protruding portion (312) to increase the elongation of the non-protruding portion (930), thereby minimizing the difference in elongation between the holding portion (920) and the non-protruding portion (930).

[0081] Referring to FIGS. 3 and 6, the cooling member (700) includes a spray nozzle (710), a connecting passage (720), and a fluid supply source (730).

[0082] The injection nozzle (710) is mounted on the non-protruding portion (313) of the non-pressurized unit (300) and injects cooling fluid into the non-protruding portion (313). In addition, the connecting passage (720) is connected to the injection nozzle (710) so that the fluid supplied from the fluid supply source (730) moves to the injection nozzle (710).

[0083] In addition, the fluid supply source (730) is connected to the connecting passage (720) and supplies fluid to the injection nozzle (710) through the connecting passage (720). Here, the fluid may be air or water, but is not limited thereto. In addition, as described above, the connecting passage (720) of the cooling member (700) may pass between the fixing members (600).

[0084] Meanwhile, a blocking partition (800) may be formed between the protruding portion (312) and the non-protruding portion (313) to prevent heat supplied to the protruding portion (312) from moving to the non-protruding portion (313). Here, the blocking partition (800) may be formed of a material having lower thermal conductivity than the rotating roller (310).

[0085] The blocking bulkhead (800) can be coupled to the rotating body (311) and can rotate together with the rotating body (311). Here, to avoid interference with the fixed member (600) when the blocking bulkhead (800) rotates, the blocking bulkhead (800) can be spaced apart from the fixed member (600) by a preset interval (810, see enlarged portion of FIG. 3).

[0086] In an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention, heat supplied by a heat supply member (400) installed in a protruding portion (312) increases the temperature of the protruding portion (312), but does not increase the temperature of the non-protruding portion (313) due to the blocking partition (800).

[0087] However, even if there is a blocking bulkhead (800), heat from the protruding portion (312) can be transferred to the non-protruding portion (313), and, for example, as described above, heat can be transferred from the protruding portion (312) to the non-protruding portion (313) through the gap (810) formed between the blocking bulkhead (800) and the fixing member (600). However, in this case, the cooling member (700) installed in the non-protruding portion (313) can lower the temperature of the non-protruding portion (313) to maintain a preset appropriate temperature.

[0088] By this, the difference in elongation between the holding portion (920) and the non-holding portion (930) of the electrode foil (900) can be minimized, and also the electrode quality can be improved.

[0089] FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram illustrating the configuration of a battery pack including a battery cell equipped with an electrode produced using an electrode production device according to each embodiment of the present invention.

[0090] Referring to FIG. 7, a battery pack (30) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20). Here, the battery cells (20) include electrodes produced using the electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention as described above.

[0091] In addition, the battery pack (30) may further include a pack housing (31) for storing the battery cells (20), and various devices for controlling charging and discharging of the battery cells (20), such as a BMS, a current sensor, a fuse, etc.

[0092] FIG. 8 is a drawing for explaining a vehicle including the battery pack of FIG. 7.

[0093] Referring to FIG. 8, a vehicle (40) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20) or battery packs (30) including electrodes produced using an electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention. Here, the vehicle (40) includes various types of vehicles that are designed to use electricity, such as electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles.
