Description

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR ALLOCATION OF ONE OR MORE NETWORK RESOURCES IN A TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORKFIELD OF INVENTION

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to network resource allocation. More particularly, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods and systems for allocation of one or more network resources in a telecommunication network.BACKGROUND

[0002] The following description of the related art is intended to provide background information pertaining to the field of the disclosure. This section may include certain aspects of the art that may be related to various features of the present disclosure. However, it should be appreciated that this section is used only to enhance the understanding of the reader with respect to the present disclosure, and not as admissions of the prior art.

[0003] Wireless communication technology has rapidly evolved over the past few decades, with each generation bringing significant improvements and advancements. The first-generation of wireless communication technology was based on analog technology and offered only voice services. However, with the advent of the second-generation (2G) technology, digital communication and data services became possible, and text messaging was introduced. The third- generation (3G) technology marked the introduction of high-speed internet access, mobile video calling, and location-based services. The fourth-generation (4G) technology revolutionized wireless communication with faster data speeds, better network coverage, and improved security. Currently, the fifth-generation (5G) technology is being deployed, promising even faster data speeds, low latency, and the ability to connect multiple devices simultaneously. With each generation, wireless communication technology has become more advanced, sophisticated, and capable of delivering more services to its users.

[0004] In recent years, the telecommunications industry has undergone a significant transformation with the advent of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN). These technologies have revolutionized the way network services are provisioned, managed, and orchestrated, allowing for greater flexibility, agility, and efficiency in network operations.

[0005] In this evolving landscape, an NFV SDN platform acts as a critical infrastructure component, providing the foundation for deploying and managing virtualized network functions (VNF), VNF components (VNFC), cloud network functions (CNF), and cloud network function components (CNFC). However, as the complexity and scale of virtualized networks have grown, new challenges have emerged in resource management, network service orchestration, and ensuring the dynamic allocation of resources to meet changing service demands.

[0006] In a virtualized network environment supporting VNF, VNFC, CNF, and CNFC, it is essential to efficiently allocate resources to meet the instantiation, scaling, and healing requirements of these network functions.

[0007] Further, over the period of time various solutions have been developed to address resource allocation and resource reservation tasks. However, there are certain challenges with the existing solutions. For example, the existing solutions do not provide accurate information about the available resources. In addition, the existing solutions do not enable resource allocation in advance.

[0008] Thus, there exists an imperative need in the art to provide a method and system to address the challenges associated with resource management, which the present disclosure aims to address.SUMMARY

[1088] as explained in conjunction with FIG. 1. The explanation for the same has not been provided here again for the sake of brevity.

[0060] The system

[0300] may include at least one first processor

[0302] , In cases where the system

[0300] may be implemented as the PEEGN

[1088] , the first processor

[0302] may reside at the policy execution engine (PEEGN)

[1088] ,

[0061] Also, all of the components / units of the system

[0300] are assumed to be connected to each other unless otherwise indicated below. As shown in FIG. 3, all units shown within the system

[0300] should also be assumed to be connected to each other. Also, in FIG. 3 only a few units are shown, however, the system

[0300] may comprise multiple such units or the system

[0300] may comprise any such numbers of said units, as required to implement the features of the present disclosure. Further, in an implementation, the system

[0300] may be present in a user device / user equipment to implement the features of the present disclosure. The system

[0300] may be a part of the user device / or may be independent of but in communication with the user device (may also referred herein as a UE). In another implementation, the system

[0300] may reside in a server or a network entity. In yet another implementation, the system

[0300] may reside partly in the server / network entity and partly in the user device.

[0062] The system

[0300] is configured for allocation of the one or more network resources in the telecommunication network, with the help of the interconnection between the components / units of the system

[0300] ,

[0063] Referring to FIG. 4, an exemplary environment

[0400] for implementing the present disclosure is shown, in accordance with exemplary implementations of the present disclosure.

[0064] It may be noted that the FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 are explained in conjunction in the foregoing description for explanation / description of the present disclosure.

[0065] In another example, the system

[0300] may be configured for allocation of the one or more network resources in the telecommunication network with the help of interconnection between the components / unit of the environment

[0400] and in another example, the components / units of the system architecture

[0100] ,

[0066] As depicted in FIG. 4, the exemplary environment

[0400] provides a physical and virtual inventory manager (PVIM)

[0402] and a Policy Execution Engine (PEEGN) Cluster

[0406] , The PVIM

[0402] and the PEEGN Cluster

[0406] may be connected to each other with the PE IM interface

[0410] , which enables communication by exchanging information among each entity.

[0067] The PVIM

[0402] may be considered to be similar to the Physical and Virtual Resource Manager as already provided in the above system architecture

[0100] , and may perform similar functions.

[0068] The interface PE IM

[0410] between the PEEGN

[1088] and the PVIM

[0402] may be the interface provided within the HTTP Protocols and other protocols which may be well known in the art.

[0069] The PEEGN cluster

[0406] may refer to a cluster of multiple PEEGN instances, and may also comprise a database

[0408] , The PEEGN instance, as depicted in FIG. 4, may be understood and referred to as the system

[0300] , The database

[0408] may refer to a relational or non-relational database used for storing and fetching various information.

[0070] In one example, the system

[0300] may be in communication with other network entities / components as well, which have not been depicted in FIG. 4. Such network entities / components may be well understood to a person skilled in the art, and have not been explained here for the sake of brevity.

[0071] Continuing further, the PVIM

[0402] may include a second processor

[0404] , In an example, the first processor

[0302] and the second processor

[0404] may be directly in communication with each other via the PE IM interface

[0410] for implementation of the present disclosure.

[0072] In operation, for allocation of the one or more network resources in the telecommunication network, the first processor

[0302] transmits an event request for a resource allocation to a second processor

[0404] , The event request may refer to a request for resource allocation which may be sent to the second processor

[0404] based on an event during which the PEEGN

[1088] may request the PVIM

[0402] for allocation of the resources. As would be understood, resource allocation may refer to allocation of one or more network resources such as compute resource, memory, bandwidth, etc. The PVIM

[0402] manages the inventory and resources present within the network and hence would be able to allocate the network resources to the PEEGN

[1088] when requested. In an example, the event request may be transmitted using the HTTP based events.

[0073] In an implementation of the present disclosure, the event request associated with resource requirements may be received during an instantiation of a network function. In an example, theinstantiation of the network function may refer to an event during which the network function has been initialized.

[0074] Then, after the transmission of the request, the first processor

[0302] receives an acknowledgement of the event request. The acknowledgement comprises at least a resource availability information for one or more available resources from the second processor

[0404] , The resource availability information may comprise information associated with availability and nonavailability of the network resource. In case the network resources are available, then the information associated with the network resource that are available (i.e. the one or more available resources) may be transmitted by the second processor

[0404] of the PVIM

[0402] or the PVIM

[0402] itself. It may be noted that the information associated with the one or more available resources may be sent along with the acknowledgement or within the acknowledgement.

[0075] In another exemplary implementations of the present disclosure, the resource availability information comprises information of the one or more available resources for scaling and instantiation of the network function. The information of the one or more available resources may be then used for scaling and instantiation of the network function. As would be understood, scaling may refer to altering the resources allocated to a virtualized network function, or a containerized network function. Such scaling may result in increase or decrease of the network resources allocated to a particular network function. The PEEGN

[1088] may utilize the network resources requested that would be received by the PVIM

[0402] for increasing the network resources allocated to a particular network function.

[0076] In an exemplary implementation, the availability information may be stored in a memory or a database

[0408] , which may be based on relational or non-relational database structures such as a NoSQL database or the platform NoSQL Database

[1098] ,

[0077] Continuing further, the first processor

[0302] selects at least one resource from the one or more available resources based on an analysis of the resource availability information. After, the information associated with the one or more available resources is received, then from the information associated with the one or more available resource, one or more resources are selected based on the requirements of the PEEGN

[1088] which may be based on the requirements of a particular network function for which the resources are allocated.

[0078] In an exemplary implementation of the present disclosure, the first processor

[0302] may select a set of hosts or servers from an available host information received in the acknowledgement. In such implementations of the present disclosure, the acknowledgment may comprise information associated with the one or more available resources, which may comprise network resources in the form of available hosts or servers within the network. As would be understood, the hosts or servers may refer to the one or more network resources having the capability of performing compute actions, store information in the memory, allocate bandwidth, etc. Further, the available host information in such case may refer to the information associated with the hosts or servers present within the acknowledgement in form of the information associated with the one or more available resources.

[0079] After the at least one resource is selected, the first processor

[0302] transmits a resource reservation request for the selected at least one resource to the second processor

[0404] , The resource reservation request may refer to a request or a command which may be sent by the PEEGN

[1088] or the first processor of the PEEGN

[1088] for reserving the at least one resource that is selected. The resource reservation request may be based on the requirements of the network resources which may be requested by the network function from the PEEGN

[1088] ,

[0080] Based on the resource reservation request, the first processor

[0302] receives a reservation response for the selected at least one resource from the second processor

[0404] , The reservation response may refer to a response which may be received from the PVIM

[0402] after the selected at least one resource may be reserved or not reserved based on the resource reservation request.

[0081] In an implementation of the present disclosure, the reservation response may be at least one of a positive reservation response and a negative reservation response. As would be understood, the positive reservation response may be a response indicating a success of the reservation of the one or more available resources, and the negative reservation response may be a response indicating a failure of the reservation of the one or more available resources. The positive reservation response may be received by the first

[0302] processor in an event the selected at least one resource from the one or more available resources is successfully reserved. The negative reservation response may be received by the first processor

[0302] in an event the selected at least one resource from the one or more available resources is unsuccessfully reserved. In such implementations, the positive reservation response or the negative reservation response may be received in the case of successful or unsuccessful reservation of the one or more available resources.

[0082] Referring to FIG. 5, an exemplary method flow diagram

[0500] for allocation of the one or more network resources in the telecommunication network, in accordance with exemplary implementations of the present disclosure is shown. In an implementation the method

[0500] is performed by the system

[0300] , In another implementation, the method

[0500] may be performed by the environment

[0400] , Further, in an implementation, the system

[0300] may be present in a server device to implement the features of the present disclosure. Also, as shown in FIG. 5, the method

[0500] starts at step

[0502] ,

[0083] In an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure, the first processor

[0302] may reside at a policy execution engine (PEEGN)

[1088] , In another exemplary aspect of the present disclosure, the second processor

[0404] may reside at a physical and virtual inventory management (PVIM)

[0402] , In such implementations, the first processor

[0302] of the PEEGN

[1088] may be connected with the second processor

[0404] of the PVIM

[0402] , The PVIM

[0402] may be considered to be similar to the Physical and Virtual Resource Manage

[1050] as already provided in the above system architecture

[0100] , and may perform similar functions. Further, in such implementations, the PEEGN

[1088] and the PVIM

[0402] may be connected to each other via an interface which enables communication by exchanging information among each entity. The interface between the PEEGN

[1088] and the PVIM

[0402] may be the interface provided within the HTTP Protocols and other protocols which may be well known in the art. Such interfaces, may be called as the PE IM interface

[0410] ,

[0084] For allocation of the one or more network resources in the telecommunication network, the method

[0500] at step

[0504] , comprises transmitting, by the first processor

[0302] , an event request for a resource allocation to a second processor

[0404] , The event request may refer to a request for resource allocation which may be sent to the second processor

[0404] based on an event during which the PEEGN

[1088] may request the PVIM

[0402] for allocation of the resources. As would be understood, resource allocation may refer to allocation of one or more network resources such as compute resource, memory, bandwidth, etc. The PVIM

[0402] manages the inventory and resources present within the network and hence would be able to allocate the network resources to the PEEGN

[1088] when requested. In an example, the event request may be transmitted using the HTTP based events.

[0085] In an implementation of the present disclosure, the event request associated with resource requirements may be received during an instantiation of a network function. In an example, theinstantiation of the network function may refer to an event during which the network function has been initialized.

[0086] Then, after the transmission of the request, at step

[0506] , the method

[0500] involves receiving, by the first processor

[0302] , an acknowledgement of the event request. The acknowledgement comprises at least a resource availability information for one or more available resources from the second processor

[0404] , The resource availability information may comprise information associated with availability and non-availability of the network resource.

[0087] In another exemplary implementations of the present disclosure, the resource availability information comprises information of the one or more available resources for scaling and instantiation of the network function.

[0088] In an exemplary implementation, the availability information may be stored in a memory or a database, which may be based on relational or non-relational database structures such as a NoSQL database or the platform NoSQL Database

[1098] ,

[0089] Continuing further, at step

[0508] , the method

[0500] leads to selecting, by the first processor

[0302] , at least one resource from the one or more available resources based on an analysis of the resource availability information. After, the information associated with the one or more available resources is received, then from the information associated with the one or more available resource, one or more resources are selected based on the requirements of the PEEGN

[1088] which may be based on the requirements of a particular network function for which the resources are allocated.

[0090] In an exemplary implementation of the present disclosure, the first processor

[0091] After the at least one resource is selected, then at step

[0510] , the method [5] involves transmitting, by the first processor

[0302] , a resource reservation request for the selected at least one resource to the second processor

[0404] , The resource reservation request may refer to a request or a command which may be sent by the PEEGN

[1088] or the first processor of the PEEGN

[1088] for reserving the at least one resource that is selected, the resource reservation request may be based on the requirements of the network resources which may be requested by the network function from the PEEGN

[1088] ,

[0092] Based on the resource reservation request, then at step

[0512] , the method

[0500] involves receiving, by the first processor

[0302] , a reservation response for the selected at least one resource from the second processor

[0404] , The reservation response may refer to a response which may be received from the PVIM

[0402] after the selected at least one resource may be reserved or not reserved based on the resource reservation request.

[0302] processor in an event the selected at least one resource from the one or more available resources is successfully reserved. The negative reservation response may be received by the first processor

[0302] in an event the selected at least one resource from the one or more available resources is unsuccessfully reserved. In suchimplementations, the positive reservation response or the negative reservation response may be received in the case of successful or unsuccessful reservation of the one or more available resources.

[0094] Thereafter, at step

[0514] , the method

[0500] is terminated.

[0610] after handling the multiple requests.

[0098] At step

[0610] , the PEEGN

[1088] may send the request to PVIM

[0402] for resource allocation that may be transmitted in form of the event request, which may be received during an instantiation of a network function or microservice.

[0099] Then, after the transmission of the request, at step

[0612] , the method

[0600] involves receiving the acknowledgement of the event request at the PEEGN

[1088] , The acknowledgement may comprise the resource availability information for the one or more available resources. In case the network resources are available, then the information associated with the network resource thatare available (i.e. the one or more available resources) may be transmitted by the second processor

[0404] of the PVIM

[0402] or the PVIM

[0402] itself. It may be noted that the information associated with the one or more available resources may be sent along with the acknowledgement or within the acknowledgement.

[0100] Continuing further, at step

[0614] , the method

[0600] leads to selecting at least one resource from the one or more available resources based on an analysis of the resource availability information. After, the information associated with the one or more available resources is received, then from the information associated with the one or more available resource, one or more resources are selected based on the requirements of the PEEGN

[1088] which may be based on the requirements of a particular network function or the microservice from which the request for resource allocation was received. It may be noted that at step

[0614] , the event for selecting the at least one resource may be handled and then accordingly after the selection of the one or more resources, the event may accordingly move to the next step.

[0101] At step

[0616] , the method

[0600] may lead to forming a loop by moving to step

[0606] until all of the request for resource allocation received by the PEEGN

[1088] are handled. This ensures that all of the events and requests resource allocation has been served. It may be noted that in an example, the PEEGN

[1088] may transmit a resource reservation request for the selected at least one resource.

[0102] At step

[0618] , the method

[0600] may involve storing the availability information in a memory or a database

[0408] , which may be based on relational or non-relational database structures such as a NoSQL database or the platform NoSQL Database

[1098] ,

[0103] Based on the resource reservation request, then at step

[0620] , the method

[0600] involves receiving a reservation response for the selected at least one resource from the PVIM

[0402] which may be then sent to the respective microservice / network function by the PEEGN

[1088] , The reservation response may be at least one of a positive reservation response and a negative reservation response for allocation of the network resources. In an implementation, the acknowledgement may be transmitted to the network function or the microservice which requested the resource allocation, and such acknowledgement may comprise the resource availability information of the one or more available resources.

[0104] Thereafter, at step

[0622] , the method

[0600] may be stopped and terminated.

[0105] The present disclosure further discloses a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions for allocation of one or more network resources in the telecommunication network. The instructions include executable code which, when executed by one or more units of a system

[0300] , causes a first processor
