[0036]
[0037] (Example 1)
[0038] FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a slot die coater (10) according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention. FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view illustrating a slot die coater (10) according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention. FIG. 3 is a plan view illustrating a coater core (200) of a slot die coater (10) according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention.
[0039] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, a slot die coater (10) may be configured to apply a coating solution (420) onto a substrate (410) that is moved by a coating roll (310). In exemplary embodiments, the substrate (410) may be a current collector, and the coating solution (420) may include an electrode slurry. The electrode slurry may include a positive electrode active material slurry and a negative electrode active material slurry. While the coating roll (310) transports the substrate (410) along a predetermined path, the coating solution (420) discharged from the slot die coater (10) may form a coating layer applied on one surface of the substrate (410).
[0040] A slot die coater (10) may include a die block (100) including a first block (110) and a second block (120), and a coater shim (200) interposed between the first block (110) and the second block (120). The coater shim (200) may be interposed between the first block (110) and the second block (120) and may form a slot (130) corresponding to a passage through which a coating liquid (420) flows. The slot (130) may be connected to a discharge port (140) of the die block (100) through which the coating liquid (420) is discharged.
[0041] The first block (110) may include a manifold (111) that receives a coating liquid (420). The manifold (111) may be a recessed space from the upper surface of the first block (110) and may be connected to a slot (130) between the first block (110) and the second block (120). When a direction parallel to the discharge direction of the coating liquid (420) is referred to as a second direction (e.g., X direction) and a direction perpendicular to the discharge direction of the coating liquid (420) is referred to as a first direction (e.g., Y direction), a length of the manifold (111) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) may be greater than a length of the manifold (111) along the second direction (e.g., X direction). A liquid supply unit located outside the die block (100) can supply a coating liquid (420) to the manifold (111) of the first block (110). When the manifold (111) is filled with the coating liquid (420), the coating liquid (420) flows along the slot (130) to the discharge port (140) of the die block (100) and is discharged in the discharge direction (e.g., X direction) through the discharge port (140) of the die block (100).
[0042] The cotter core (200) may include a master core (201), a first auxiliary core (240), and a second auxiliary core (250).
[0043] The master shim (201) is placed between the first block (110) and the second block (120), and can be fastened and fixed to the die block (100). The master shim (201) can have a generally uniform thickness. The master shim (201) can be fastened and fixed to the upper surface of the first block (110). The master shim (201) can be fastened and fixed to the first block (110) so as not to cover the manifold (111) or overlap the manifold (111) in a vertical direction (e.g., Z direction).
[0044] The master shim (201) may include a base plate (210), a first guide plate (220), and a second guide plate (230). The master shim (201) may be a single piece, and the base plate (210), the first guide plate (220), and the second guide plate (230) may form one body. The base plate (210) may extend in a first direction (e.g., in the Y direction) on the first block (110). The first guide plate (220) may be connected to one end of the base plate (210) along the first direction (e.g., in the Y direction) and may extend in a second direction (e.g., in the X direction) from the one end of the base plate (210) along the first direction (e.g., in the Y direction) toward an end of a die block (100) provided with a discharge port (140). The first guide plate (220) is connected to the other end of the base plate (210) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) and can extend in a second direction (e.g., X direction) from the other end of the base plate (210) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) toward the end of the die block (100) provided with the discharge port (140). The first guide plate (220) and the second guide plate (230) can be spaced apart in the first direction (e.g., Y direction) with the manifold (111) interposed therebetween. The first guide plate (220) and the second guide plate (230) can be arranged so as not to cover the manifold (111), respectively. The first guide plate (220) and the second guide plate (230) can each have a rectangular shape with a uniform width along the first direction (e.g., Y direction).
[0045] The first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) may be fastened and fixed to the die block (100), respectively. The first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) may each have a generally uniform thickness. The first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) may be fastened and fixed to the upper surface of the first block (110), respectively. The first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) may be positioned on the same plane as the master shim (201). The first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) are provided in the lateral direction (e.g., the X direction and / or the Y direction) of the master shim (201) and do not overlap in the vertical direction (e.g., the Z direction).
[0046] The first auxiliary shim (240) may be arranged on one side of the first guide plate (220), and the second auxiliary shim (250) may be arranged on one side of the second guide plate (230). One side of the first auxiliary shim (240) may contact one side of the first guide plate (220), and the first auxiliary shim (240) may extend continuously along one side of the first guide plate (220). The first auxiliary shim (240) may extend in a second direction (e.g., in the X direction) from the base plate (210) toward an end of the die block (100). One side of the second auxiliary shim (250) may contact one side of the second guide plate (230), and the second auxiliary shim (250) may extend continuously along one side of the second guide plate (230). The second auxiliary core (250) may extend in a second direction (e.g., in the X direction) from the base plate (210) toward the end of the die block (100). The first auxiliary core (240) and the second auxiliary core (250) may each have a rectangular shape with a uniform width along the first direction (e.g., in the Y direction).
[0047] The first auxiliary core (240) and the second auxiliary core (250) may be spaced apart in a first direction (e.g., Y direction). The slot (130) may be understood as a space between the first auxiliary core (240) and the second auxiliary core (250). The width of the slot (130) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) may correspond to the distance between the first auxiliary core (240) and the second auxiliary core (250) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction). The width of the slot (130) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) may be smaller than the width of the manifold (111) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction).
[0048] The first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) may each cover a portion of the manifold (111). The first auxiliary shim (240) may include a first inner region (241) covering a first edge portion of the manifold (111) or overlapping a first edge portion of the manifold (111), and a first outer region (242) located between the manifold (111) and the first guide plate (220) in a first direction (e.g., Y direction). The second auxiliary shim (250) may include a second inner region (251) covering a second edge portion of the manifold (111) or overlapping a second edge portion of the manifold (111), and a second outer region (252) located between the manifold (111) and the second guide plate (230) in a first direction (e.g., Y direction). The first inner region (241) of the first auxiliary core (240) may be referred to as a first overlapping region, and the second inner region (251) of the second auxiliary core (250) may be referred to as a second overlapping region. The first edge portion and the second edge portion of the manifold (111) are opposite ends of the manifold (111) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction), and the coating liquid (420) is supplied to the slot (130) through the center portion of the manifold (111) between the first edge portion and the second edge portion of the manifold (111).
[0049] In the slot die coater according to the comparative example, the boundary between the auxiliary shim and the master shim is above the manifold, and in this case, there is a concern that the coating liquid flowing out from the manifold may leak into the gap between the auxiliary shim and the master shim. Such leakage of the coating liquid causes internal contamination of the slot die coater and reduces the uniformity of the coating process.
[0050] However, according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, both edges of the manifold (111) are completely covered by the first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250), and the boundaries between each of the first auxiliary shim (240) and the second auxiliary shim (250) and the master shim (201) are located on the outside of the manifold (111). Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the coating solution (420) provided from the manifold (111) from leaking to other parts other than the slot (130).
[0051] In exemplary embodiments, the width (W1) of the first inner region (241) of the first auxiliary shim (240) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) and the width (W3) of the second inner region (251) of the second auxiliary shim (250) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) may be between 4 mm and 300 mm. If the width of the overlapping region between the auxiliary shim and the manifold (111) is too small, there is a concern that the thickness deviation of the coating solution (420) applied on the substrate (410) may increase. For example, the width (W1) of the first inner region (241) of the first auxiliary core (240) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) and the width (W3) of the second inner region (251) of the second auxiliary core (250) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) may be 6 mm or more, 8 mm or more, 10 mm or more, 12 mm or more, 14 mm or more, or 16 mm or less, respectively. For example, the width (W1) of the first inner region (241) of the first auxiliary core (240) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) and the width (W3) of the second inner region (251) of the second auxiliary core (250) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction) may be 30% or less, 25% or less, or 20% or less of the width of the manifold (111) along the first direction (e.g., Y direction), respectively.
[0052] In exemplary embodiments, the width (W2) of the first outer region (242) of the first auxiliary shim (240) along the first direction (e.g., the Y direction) and the width (W4) of the second outer region (252) of the second auxiliary shim (250) along the first direction (e.g., the Y direction) may be between 5 mm and 50 mm. When the width (W2) of the first outer region (242) of the first auxiliary shim (240) and the width (W4) of the second outer region (252) of the second auxiliary shim (250) are configured to be 5 mm or more, the coating solution (420) provided from the manifold (111) can be effectively prevented from leaking to a part other than the slot (130).

[0054] (Example 2)
[0055] Fig. 4 is a plan view showing a portion of a slot die coater (10) according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention. Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA-AA' of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a plan view showing a portion of a slot die coater (10) according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention. Fig. 7 is a cross-sectional view taken along line BB-BB' of Fig. 6.
[0056] Referring to FIGS. 4 to 7 together with FIGS. 1 to 3, the first auxiliary core (240) can be fastened and fixed to the first block (110) by at least one first fastening member (e.g., a first fixing pin (151) and a first bolt (153)).
[0057] In exemplary embodiments, the first auxiliary shim (240) may be fastened and fixed to the first block (110) by a first fixing pin (151) and a first bolt (153). The first auxiliary shim (240) may include a first pin hole (243) into which the first fixing pin (151) is inserted and a first bolt hole (245) into which the first bolt (153) is inserted. The first pin hole (243) may be vertically overlapped with a corresponding hole of the first block (110), and the first bolt hole (245) may be vertically overlapped with a corresponding hole of the first block (110). The first fixing pin (151) may pass through the first pin hole (243) of the first auxiliary shim (240) and be inserted and fixed into a corresponding hole of the first block (110). The first bolt (153) can be inserted and fastened into the corresponding hole of the first block (110) by passing through the first bolt hole (245) of the first auxiliary shim (240). When the first auxiliary shim (240) is mounted on the first bolt (153), the first auxiliary shim (240) can be aligned and fastened to the target position using the first fixing pin (151), and then the first auxiliary shim (240) can be fastened to the first block (110) using the second bolt.
[0058] In exemplary embodiments, the first pin hole (243) and the first bolt hole (245) of the first auxiliary core (240) may each be a slot hole having a short axis parallel to the first direction (e.g., the Y direction) and a long axis parallel to the second direction (e.g., the X direction). That is, the length of the first pin hole (243) along the second direction (e.g., the X direction) may be greater than the length of the first pin hole (243) along the first direction (e.g., the Y direction), and the length of the first bolt hole (245) along the second direction (e.g., the X direction) may be greater than the length of the first bolt hole (245) along the first direction (e.g., the Y direction). When the first pin hole (243) and the first bolt hole (245) of the first auxiliary shim (240) are configured as slot holes having a major axis parallel to the second direction (e.g., X direction), the offset distance (OD), which is the distance between the end (249) of the first auxiliary shim (240) and the end (119) of the first block (110), can be adjusted by adjusting the relative position between the first fixing pin (151) and the first pin hole (243) and the relative position between the first bolt (153) and the first bolt hole (245). The offset distance (OD) is a parameter that affects the thickness profile of the edge region of the coating layer applied on the substrate (410). The offset distance (OD) can be modified by polishing or deformation of the die block (100). According to the present invention, by configuring the first pin hole (243) and the first bolt hole (245) of the first auxiliary shim (240) as slot holes, the offset distance (OD) can be controlled in response to the polishing or deformation of the die block (100). Therefore, the hassle of having to re-manufacture the coater shim (200) every time the die block (100) is polished or deformed can be eliminated, thereby reducing the process cost using the slot die coater (10).
[0059] The second auxiliary shim (250) may also have substantially the same configuration as the first auxiliary shim (240). Although the first auxiliary shim (240) has been described in FIGS. 4 to 7, a person skilled in the art will be able to understand the configuration of the second auxiliary shim (250) from the description of the first auxiliary shim (240). Briefly, the second auxiliary shim (250) may be fastened to the first block (110) by a second fastening member (i.e., a second fixing pin and a second bolt). The second fixing pin may pass through a second pin hole of the second auxiliary shim (250) and be inserted and fastened into a corresponding hole of the first block (110), and the second bolt may pass through a second bolt hole of the second auxiliary shim (250) and be inserted and fastened into a corresponding hole of the first block (110). The second pin hole and the second bolt hole of the second fixed pin may be slot holes having a short axis parallel to the first direction (e.g., Y direction) and a long axis parallel to the second direction (e.g., X direction), respectively. By adjusting the relative position between the second fixed pin and the second pin hole and the relative position between the second bolt and the second bolt hole, the offset distance, which is the distance between the end of the second auxiliary shim (250) and the end of the first block (110), can be adjusted.
[0060]
[0061] (Example 3)
[0062] Fig. 8 is a plan view illustrating a portion of a slot die coater according to exemplary embodiments of the present invention. Hereinafter, the slot die coater of Fig. 8 will be described, focusing on differences from the slot die coater (10) described with reference to Figs. 1 to 3.
