Description

Compression mechanism

[0001] This application claims priority to the following Chinese patent application: Chinese patent application with application number 202311364535.2 submitted to the China Patent Office on October 20, 2023, and invention name “Compression Mechanism”. The entire contents of the above patent application are incorporated into this application by reference. Technical Field

[0002] The present disclosure relates to the technical field of scroll compressors, and more particularly, to a compression mechanism of a scroll compressor with a variable volume ratio function. Background Art

[0003] The contents in this section merely provide background information related to the present disclosure and may not constitute prior art.

[0004] Compressors may be used in applications such as air conditioning and cold storage systems that require different pressures. Therefore, it is possible for the discharge pressure of the compression chamber (the maximum pressure in the compression chamber) to exceed the pressure required by the specific application. This is known as overcompression. In the case of overcompression, the fluid compressed to the discharge pressure will drop to the pressure required by the application after leaving the compression chamber. Therefore, the compressor performs unnecessary work, which will reduce the compressor's efficiency.

[0005] To reduce or prevent over-compression of the working fluid, compressors with variable volume ratio functionality have been developed. These compressors utilize a bypass valve located in the secondary exhaust port to achieve a variable volume ratio. Specifically, they operate at a low volume ratio when the required system pressure is low and at a high volume ratio when the required system pressure is high, effectively avoiding over-compression and improving compressor efficiency. However, technical issues still exist in the compressor field, such as the inability to install a bypass valve due to limited installation space.

[0038] The following description of the various embodiments of the present disclosure is merely exemplary and is by no means intended to limit the present disclosure and its application or usage. The same reference numerals are used in the various drawings to represent the same components, and thus the structure of the same components will not be described repeatedly.

[0039] An exemplary compressor with a variable volume ratio will be described below with reference to Figure 1. As shown in Figure 1, the compressor 1 may include a housing 20, a driving mechanism, a compression mechanism, a sealing assembly, and a valve assembly.

[0040] Specifically, the housing 20 may be composed of a generally cylindrical body 22, a top cover 24 disposed at one end of the body 22, and a bottom cover 26 disposed at the other end of the body 22. A partition 30 is disposed between the top cover 24 and the body 22 to separate the interior space of the housing 20 into a fluid intake chamber 21 and a fluid discharge chamber 23. The space between the partition 30 and the top cover 24 constitutes the fluid discharge chamber 23, while the space between the partition 30, the body 22, and the bottom cover constitutes the fluid intake chamber 21. An air inlet connector for inhaling fluid is disposed on one side of the fluid intake chamber 21, and an air discharge connector for discharging compressed fluid is disposed on one side of the fluid discharge chamber 23.

[0041] A compression mechanism and a driving mechanism for driving the compression mechanism are provided in the housing 20. The compression mechanism sucks in fluid from the fluid suction chamber 21 of the housing 20 and discharges the fluid into the fluid discharge chamber 23 of the housing 20 after compressing the fluid. More specifically, referring to FIG1 , the compression mechanism may include, for example, a movable scroll 50 and a fixed scroll 40 (herein, the vortex without an exhaust port is referred to as the first scroll and the vortex with an exhaust port is referred to as the second scroll. In the embodiment shown in FIG1 , the movable scroll 50 and the fixed scroll 40 are also referred to as the first scroll 50 and the second vortex 40, respectively). The movable scroll 50 includes a movable scroll end plate 54 and a spiral movable scroll 56 formed on one side of the movable scroll end plate (herein, the movable scroll end plate 54 and the movable scroll 56 are also referred to as the first scroll end plate 54 and the first scroll 56). The fixed scroll 40 includes a fixed scroll end plate 44 and a spiral fixed scroll 46 formed on one side of the end plate (herein, the fixed scroll end plate 44 and the fixed scroll 46 are also referred to as the second scroll end plate 44 and the second scroll 46). The fixed scroll end plate 44 includes a main exhaust port 42 formed at a substantially central position of the end plate and a first secondary exhaust port 64 and a second secondary exhaust port 66 located radially outward of the exhaust port 42. The fixed scroll 46 of the fixed scroll 40 and the movable scroll 56 of the movable scroll 50 mesh with each other to form a series of compression chambers therebetween, the volume of which gradually decreases and the pressure gradually increases from the radial outside to the radial inside. Specifically, the pressure in the radially outermost compression chamber of the compression chamber is the smallest, the pressure in the radially innermost compression chamber, i.e., the central compression chamber located at the center of the scroll, is the largest, and the multiple intermediate compression chambers located between the radially outermost position and the radially innermost position have intermediate pressures between the maximum pressure and the minimum pressure. The main exhaust port 42 can be fluidically connected to the central compression chamber (the fluid communication described in this section corresponds to direct fluid communication), while the first auxiliary exhaust port 64 and the second auxiliary exhaust port 66 can be fluidically connected to the first intermediate compression chamber and the second intermediate compression chamber located on both sides of the central compression chamber, respectively.

[0042] In order to achieve axial sealing between the top of the fixed scroll 46 of the fixed scroll 40 and the movable scroll end plate 54 of the movable scroll 50, and between the top of the movable scroll 56 of the movable scroll 50 and the fixed scroll end plate 54 of the fixed scroll 40, a back pressure chamber 70 is usually provided on the side of the fixed scroll end plate 54 of the fixed scroll 40 opposite to the fixed scroll 46. More specifically, an inner annular wall 43 and an outer annular wall 45 are formed on the fixed scroll end plate 54. The inner annular wall 43 defines an exhaust area including a main exhaust port 42 and auxiliary exhaust ports 64, 66. The back pressure chamber 70 is composed of a space surrounded by the fixed scroll end plate 54, the inner annular wall 43 and the outer annular wall 45 and is closed by a sealing assembly provided therein, which isolates the medium-pressure back pressure chamber area from the high-pressure exhaust area and the low-pressure suction area. The back pressure chamber 70 is fluidically connected to a medium pressure chamber in the compression chamber between the movable scroll 50 and the fixed scroll 40 through an axially extending through hole (not shown) formed in the fixed scroll end plate 54, thereby forming a force that squeezes the fixed scroll 40 toward the movable scroll 50. The pressure in the back pressure chamber 70 can effectively press the fixed scroll 40 and the movable scroll 50 together.

[0043] Typically, a bypass valve can be provided in the scroll mechanism to prevent over-compression of the working fluid. During operation of the compressor 1, the working fluid is drawn into the compression mechanism and is compressed as it flows from the radially outermost position to the radially innermost position. The compressed fluid is discharged to the exhaust area defined by the inner annular wall 43 through the main exhaust port 42, and can then be discharged to the discharge chamber 23 via, for example, a one-way valve provided at the central position of the partition 30. In the event of over-compression, the fluid can be discharged to the exhaust area in advance through the auxiliary exhaust port before reaching the radially innermost position. Specifically, when the pressure of the fluid in the compression chamber at the radially middle position is greater than the fluid pressure in the discharge chamber 23 (i.e., over-compression occurs), the bypass valve selectively opens the auxiliary exhaust ports 64, 66, thereby allowing the fluid to be discharged in advance. When the pressure of the fluid in the compression chamber contained in the radially middle position is less than the fluid pressure in the discharge chamber 23, the bypass valve selectively closes and seals the auxiliary exhaust ports 64, 66.

[0044] In compressor 1 , sufficient space is required for back-pressure chamber 70 to provide a stable and sufficient pressure to effectively prevent fluid leakage between compression chambers. Consequently, the space inside annular wall 43 is quite limited. In particular, for small-displacement scroll compressors, the space inside annular wall 43 may only have a diameter of 20 mm to 30 mm. In this case, since the bypass valve is larger than the scroll, it is difficult to install the bypass valve inside annular wall 43 to achieve the variable volume ratio function.

[0045] A commonly used approach is a split design, where a cover plate is used to divide the exhaust area and backpressure chamber into two upper and lower sections. This allows the bypass valve installation space to be freed from the constraints of annular wall 43, as in the compressor shown in Figure 1. However, in this split design, the presence of the upper cover plate divides the fixed scroll into two layers, increasing the overall height of the fixed scroll and, consequently, the height and volume of the compressor, leading to increased production costs. Furthermore, because the exhaust area between the cover plate and the fixed scroll end plate experiences high pressure, the threaded connection between the cover plate and the fixed scroll end plate poses a risk of incomplete sealing, leading to fluid leakage and potentially reduced compressor performance. Furthermore, the need for additional cover plates, gaskets, and corresponding fasteners complicates the structure, increasing production and processing costs. Another approach is to install multiple valves on the fixed scroll end plate, each secured to the fixed scroll end plate with a single screw. However, this approach allows for fewer valves to be installed, is laborious to install, and reduces the flow area of the secondary exhaust port.

[0046] In order to solve the above problems, the inventors have conceived an improved compression mechanism, which can not only save the installation space required for the bypass valve but also increase the flow area of the auxiliary exhaust port, thereby improving the efficiency of the compression mechanism.

[0047] 2 , a compression mechanism according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure may include a bypass valve assembly 100 (hereinafter referred to as the valve assembly 100). The valve assembly 100 may include a valve body 120 and a valve plate 130. The valve plate 130 may be disposed above the secondary exhaust ports 64, 66 and may selectively open or close the secondary exhaust ports 64, 66. The valve body 120 may be configured to limit the displacement range of the valve plate 130 and the valve plate 130 may be fixed to the valve body 120 at a central portion thereof. The valve assembly 100 may be centrally disposed radially inwardly of the annular wall 43 such that the central portion of the valve body 120 may coincide with the center of the annular wall 43.

[0048] As shown in FIG3 , the valve disc 130 may include multiple sub-valve discs 132. Each sub-valve disc 132 includes a fixed end 134 fixed to the center of the valve body and a movable end 136 extending from the fixed end 134 toward the outer periphery of the valve body. The multiple sub-valve discs 132 may be integrally connected to a junction 138 and may be symmetrically arranged around the junction 138. Although FIG3 illustrates the valve disc 130 as including two sub-valve discs 132, it should be understood that the number of sub-valve discs 132 is not limited to this and may vary as needed. For example, FIG4 illustrates the valve disc as including six sub-valve discs. Specifically, as shown in FIG4 , two groups of sub-valve discs 132 are provided, each group comprising several sub-valve discs positioned close to each other, and the second group comprising several sub-valve discs positioned close to each other. This arrangement allows the valve disc 130 to be well-suited to a structure having two groups of sub-valve discs positioned close to each other. In addition, although an integrated valve plate in which multiple sub-valve plates are connected to the confluence is shown here, it can be understood that a split design of separately manufactured sub-valve plates can also be adopted. For example, the fixed end of at least one sub-valve plate can be fixed to the central part separately without being connected to the fixed ends of other sub-valve plates into one piece.

[0049] Continuing with FIG3 , the valve body 120 may include an annular body 122, which may be formed with alternating positioning portions 124 and limiting portions 126. The positioning portion 124 may have a uniform thickness to form a flat positioning surface that abuts the fixed scroll end plate 44 to securely hold the valve body on the fixed scroll end plate. The limiting portion 126 may be thinner than the positioning portion 124 and may be configured to limit the displacement range of the movable end 136 of the sub-valve plate 132. This arrangement of the annular body 122 allows for sufficient flow area for the secondary exhaust port, thereby simultaneously ensuring the secure retention of the valve body and the exhaust requirements of the fluid. The valve body 120 may also include a connecting portion 123 extending through the central portion of the valve body and connected to the annular body 122. An exhaust passage 125 may be formed between the connecting portion 123 and the annular body 122, through which the fluid can be discharged to the exhaust area. 5b, the connecting portion 123 may be formed with a protrusion 128 (ie, defined with a step) on a side facing the valve disc 130 (the lower side in FIG. 2 ), the protrusion 128 being configured to surround the periphery of the confluence portion 138 of the valve disc to prevent the valve disc 128 from rotating.

[0050] In the present disclosure, the valve plate 130 is not directly fixed to the fixed scroll end plate 44 , nor is it directly positioned with the fixed scroll end plate 44 via, for example, positioning pins 150 . Instead, the valve plate is fixed by being fixed to the valve body 130 .

[0051] 3 , the valve assembly 100 may further include a fastener 140 . A first fastening hole 137 may be formed at the confluence portion 138 of the valve disc, and a second fastening hole 127 may be formed at the central portion of the valve body 120 . The fastener 140 may extend through the first fastening hole 137 in a direction away from the fixed scroll end plate 44 and to the second fastening hole 127 to fasten the valve disc 130 to the valve body 120 . As specifically shown in FIG. 2 , the head of the fastener 140 may abut against the valve disc 130 and extend toward the valve body 120 , i.e., in a direction opposite to the discharge direction of the fluid. Although the fastener 140 is shown as illustratively securing the valve body 120 and the valve disc 130 here, it is understood that the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and the valve body 120 and the valve disc 130 may also be secured together by any other suitable means, such as bonding or welding.

[0052] As shown in FIG1 , in the assembled state, the fixed end 134 of the valve disc 130 can be fixed to the central portion of the valve body 120, and the movable end 136 of the valve disc 130 can selectively move between an open position and a closed position to selectively open or close the auxiliary exhaust ports 64, 66. The stopper 126 can have an inclined surface to limit the displacement range of the movable end 136.

[0053] 3 , the valve assembly 100 may further include a positioning member 110 . The positioning member 110 may be fixed to the inner annular wall 43 of the fixed scroll 40 and may be configured to abut against the valve body 120 to limit the axial position of the valve disc 130 and the valve body 120 . For example, the positioning member 110 may be fixed to the inner thread of the inner annular wall 43 by an outer thread provided on the outer periphery. Such an annular fastener may provide a uniform downward tightening force to prevent the valve assembly 100 from tipping over. Although the positioning member 110 is shown as being fixed to the fixed scroll by threads, it is understood that the present application is not limited thereto and the positioning member 110 may be fixed by any other suitable means such as interference fit or bonding. In an alternative embodiment, the positioning member 110 may be omitted and the valve body 120 may be fixed directly to the inner annular wall 43 of the fixed scroll. In another alternative embodiment, referring to FIGS. 11 and 12 , the valve assembly may include a spring 110A (e.g., a corrugated spring) instead of the positioning member 110. The spring 110A can be fixed to the inner annular wall 43 of the fixed scroll 40 and can be configured to abut against the valve body 120 to apply a downward elastic force to the valve body 120 and the valve plate 130, thereby pressing the valve body and the valve plate downward to fix the axial position of the valve plate 130 and the valve body 120.

[0054] 3 , the valve assembly 100 may further include a locating pin 150 . The locating pin 150 may extend through the pin hole 129 of the valve body 120 and to the pin holes 47 , 48 of the non-orbiting scroll (shown in FIG. 6 ), thereby preventing the valve body 120 from circumferential displacement.

[0055] 2 , in an exemplary embodiment according to the present disclosure, the main exhaust port 42 of the fixed scroll 40 includes a first main exhaust port portion 420 and a second main exhaust port portion 422 that are interconnected. The first main exhaust port portion 420 can be connected to the central compression chamber, the second main exhaust port portion 422 can be connected to the exhaust area 23, and the flow area of the second main exhaust port portion 422 is larger than the flow area of the first main exhaust port portion 420. That is, a sink with a larger radial dimension can be provided on the upper surface of the fixed scroll end plate. In the compressor according to the present disclosure, a second main exhaust port portion is provided between the first main exhaust port portion 420 and the valve assembly 100, so that interference with fluid discharge by the connection portion 123 can be avoided, effectively ensuring that the fluid can be discharged from the main exhaust port to the exhaust area.

[0056] In the exemplary compression mechanism according to the present disclosure, the valve plate 130 of the valve assembly 100 is fixed to the central portion of the valve body 120. In this way, on the one hand, only a single fixing member can be used to fix multiple valve plates, thereby saving installation space; on the other hand, the fixed end of the valve plate is fixed to the center of the valve body / inner annular wall 43. Compared with the valve plate arranged on the periphery of the radially inner space of the inner annular wall 43, a larger number of sub-valve plates can be set to achieve control of multiple groups of auxiliary exhaust ports, thereby increasing the flow area of the auxiliary exhaust ports. In addition, the compressor according to the exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure has a simple structure and requires fewer parts, which can reduce processing costs and parts costs. In addition, the compressor according to the exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure has high structural compatibility, is applicable to most scrolls, and only requires a simple machining process to achieve a variable volume ratio function.

[0057] 7-8 , a compressor valve assembly 100A according to a second embodiment of the present disclosure will be described in detail. The valve assembly 100A has substantially the same structure as the valve assembly 100 according to the first embodiment, and only the differences will be described below.

[0058] As shown in FIG7 , valve assembly 100A may include a valve plate 160 . Valve plate 160 may be positioned below valve disc 130 , i.e., between valve disc 130 and fixed scroll end plate 44 . Referring to FIG8 , valve plate 160 may include an impact protection portion 162 corresponding to the shape of valve disc 130 . An orifice 164 may be formed in the center of impact protection portion 162 . Fasteners 140 may extend through orifice 164, first fastening holes 137 of the valve disc, and into second fastening holes 127 of valve body 120 to secure valve plate 160 , valve body, and valve disc together. Valve plate 160 may also include a secondary exhaust passage 166 , a primary exhaust passage 168 , and a pin hole 169 . Secondary exhaust passage 166 may be in fluid communication with secondary exhaust ports 64 , 66 , and primary exhaust passage 168 may be in fluid communication with primary exhaust port 42 , thereby enabling fluid to flow through valve plate 160 . The positioning pin 150 may extend through the pin hole 129 of the valve body 120 and the pin hole 169 of the valve plate 160 and extend to the pin holes 47 and 48 of the fixed scroll, thereby preventing the valve body 120 and the valve plate 160 from circumferential displacement.

[0059] In the valve assembly 100A according to the second embodiment of the present disclosure, the valve disc 120 is protected by the impact-proof portion 162 of the valve plate 160 , thereby preventing the valve disc 130 from being directly impacted by the fluid discharged from the main exhaust port 42 and reducing the fatigue risk of the valve disc.

[0060] FIG9 shows a valve assembly 100B for a compressor according to a third embodiment of the present disclosure. The valve assembly 100B is substantially identical in structure to the valve assembly 100A according to the second embodiment, and only the differences will be described below. An aperture 164B may be formed in the center of the impact-resistant portion of the valve plate 160B. A fastener 140 may be disposed in the aperture 164B and extend through a first fastening hole 137 of the valve plate into a second fastening hole 127 of the valve body 120 to integrally fasten the valve body and valve plate.

[0061] According to the second and third exemplary compression mechanisms of the present disclosure, a compression mechanism with a variable volume ratio function is provided, which has a small installation space, a large flow area and a simple structure. In addition, according to the second and third exemplary compression mechanisms of the present disclosure, it is possible to avoid reducing the fatigue risk of the valve plate and extend the service life of the valve assembly. In addition, it should be noted that in the second and third exemplary embodiments, the setting of the sink (a first main exhaust port portion with a larger radial dimension is provided on the upper surface of the fixed vortex end plate) is more advantageous because it can also avoid the interference of the anti-impact portion of the valve plate on the fluid discharge, and effectively ensure that the fluid can be smoothly discharged from the main exhaust port to the exhaust area.

[0062] FIG10 schematically illustrates an alternative arrangement of a secondary exhaust port for a compressor according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure. Referring to FIG10 , the portion of the secondary exhaust port 64 (only one of the secondary exhaust ports 64 and 66 is schematically illustrated here) disposed on the fixed scroll end plate 44 may include a first axial section 610, a second axial section 630, and a transverse connecting section 620. The first axial section 610 extends in the axial direction of the compressor and communicates with the intermediate compression chamber. The second axial section 630 extends axially to the surface of the fixed scroll end plate 44 that faces the valve assembly 100. The transverse connecting section 620 may extend in a transverse direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the compressor and connect the first axial section 610 and the second axial section 630. The transverse connecting section 620 may have an outer end extending through the fixed scroll end plate 44, with the intersection of the transverse connecting section 620 and the second axial section 630 being at a point P. A plug 640 is provided radially outward of the intersection P to prevent leakage of the working fluid from the exhaust passage. This arrangement of the secondary exhaust port enables early exhaust of the intermediate compression chamber with lower pressure, located away from the outer side of the inner annular wall 43. Of course, other arrangements of the secondary exhaust port may also be employed. For example, the secondary exhaust port may comprise only a first axial section and a second axial section, omitting the transverse connecting section. Specifically, the first axial section extends in the axial direction of the compression mechanism and communicates with the intermediate compression chamber. The second axial section extends in the axial direction to the surface of the second scroll end plate facing the valve assembly. The first axial section and the second axial section are directly connected and partially overlap in the radial direction.

[0063] Although various embodiments and variations of the present disclosure have been described in detail above, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that the present disclosure is not limited to the above-mentioned specific embodiments and variations but may include various other possible combinations and combinations. For example, although an exemplary embodiment in which the fixed vortex is formed with an exhaust port is shown in the drawings, it is conceivable that an exhaust port may also be formed in the movable vortex. In this case, the fixed vortex is also referred to as the first vortex, and the movable vortex is also referred to as the second vortex, and accordingly, the fixed vortex end plate and the fixed vortex are also referred to as the first vortex end plate and the first vortex, while the movable vortex end plate and the movable vortex are also referred to as the second vortex end plate and the second vortex. Other variations and modifications may be implemented by those skilled in the art without departing from the essence and scope of the present disclosure. All of these variations and modifications fall within the scope of the present disclosure. Moreover, all components described herein may be replaced by other technically equivalent components.
