Abstract
Description
A thermal insulation system for a B-type independent liquid tank and a ship Technical Field
[0001] The present application relates to the technical field of liquefied gas ships, and in particular to a thermal insulation system of a type B independent liquid tank and a ship. Background Art
[0002] The liquid-tight hull used to carry cryogenic liquid cargo on liquefied natural gas carriers is called a cargo tank, or simply a tank. Tanks come in two types: membrane and independent. Independent tanks include Types A, B, and C. Type B independent tanks have long been used for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to their large capacity, low daily evaporation, and ease of installation and maintenance. Type B independent tanks are unique in structure, and their insulation system differs from the more technologically mature membrane tanks. Due to their complex structure, Type B independent tanks experience significant deformation during operation. Plate insulation systems theoretically possess higher strength, and therefore, the insulation system currently used for Type B independent tanks is primarily based on prefabricated insulation panels installed on the tank surface. However, existing prefabricated insulation panels are complex in appearance and structure, requiring a long initial design cycle (2-3 months), requiring dedicated production lines for manufacturing, resulting in significant investment, and complex installation processes. Consequently, the actual performance of plate insulation systems often differs significantly from the theoretical design.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0037] To make the objectives, technical solutions, and advantages of the embodiments of the present application more clear, the technical solutions in the embodiments of the present application will be clearly and completely described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings of the embodiments of the present application. Obviously, the described embodiments are only part of the embodiments of the present application, not all of the embodiments. Generally, the components of the embodiments of the present application described and shown in the drawings herein can be arranged and designed in various different configurations.
[0038] Therefore, the following detailed description of the embodiments of the present application provided in the accompanying drawings is not intended to limit the scope of the present application for protection, but merely represents selected embodiments of the present application. All other embodiments obtained by persons of ordinary skill in the art based on the embodiments in the present application without creative work are within the scope of protection of the present application.
[0039] According to the design specifications, an insulation system must be installed outside the Type B independent tank to prevent the hull temperature from dropping below the allowable value and to control the heat flow entering the tank to a level that can be maintained by the pressure and temperature control system. The insulation systems for Type B independent tanks currently in practical use on the market are mainly plate insulation systems, that is, prefabricated insulation panels are installed on the surface of the tank. The main reason is that the structure of Type B independent tanks is relatively complex and deforms greatly under working conditions. Conventional insulation forms such as polyurethane on-site spray foam insulation layers are not suitable for Type B independent tanks. The plate insulation system theoretically has higher strength and is more suitable for Type B independent tanks. However, there is a big difference between the actual effect of the common plate insulation system and the theoretical design goals. The main disadvantages and shortcomings are as follows:
[0040] 1. The structure of insulation panels is complex and varied, resulting in a long design cycle. The design cycle for the insulation layer of a single tank is generally 2-3 months. Given the tight construction schedule of the actual ship, the insulation design cannot respond promptly to changes in the upstream tank design, posing a significant risk to design quality.
[0041] 2. The shape and structure of the insulation board are complex, and a dedicated production line is required for processing and manufacturing, which requires a large investment; the processing process is cumbersome and the quality risk is high; the output is limited, the stocking cycle is long, and the warehousing and logistics costs are high.
[0042] 3. The insulation panels need to be classified and stacked in different areas at the construction site, which occupies a large area and places high demands on the construction guarantee conditions during the installation process, which puts a heavy burden on the shipyard's supporting work.
[0043] 4. The complex installation process is constrained by multiple factors, including the competence of the construction personnel, the condition of the installation equipment and tools, and the availability of construction support. This makes it difficult to maintain the expected quality level. In particular, the interfaces between insulation panels often suffer from serious quality issues such as cracking of the caulking material, cavities, and poor liquid tightness, which results in the failure of the required insulation and splash barrier functions.
[0044] To address the aforementioned issues, the present application provides, in its first aspect, a thermal insulation system for a Type B independent tank. Type B independent tanks can be categorized into prismatic, square, and irregularly shaped tanks (see Figure 11 ), and the thermal insulation system provided herein is applicable to various tank configurations. Specifically, referring to Figures 1-5 , the thermal insulation system comprises a prefabricated insulation panel 200, a fixing assembly 300, an insulation plug 400, a joint insulation panel 510, and a joint protective layer 530.
[0045] The prefabricated insulation panel 200 is arranged on the outer surface 100 of the liquid tank. The side of the prefabricated insulation panel 200 is stepped. The prefabricated insulation panel 200 includes an inner insulation layer 210, an outer insulation layer 220 and a reinforcement layer 230. The outer insulation layer 220 is arranged on the surface of the inner insulation layer 210 and the size of the outer insulation layer 220 is smaller than the inner insulation layer 210. The reinforcement layer 230 is provided on the junction surface of the inner insulation layer 210 and the outer insulation layer 220 and extends out of the prefabricated insulation panel 200. The reinforcement layer 230 forms an extended overlapping layer 231 at the joint of two adjacent prefabricated insulation panels 200. The materials of the prefabricated insulation panels include polyurethane foam plastic, polystyrene foam plastic, polyethylene plastic and phenolic foam plastic.
[0046] The fixing assembly 300 is positioned at the joints of the prefabricated insulation panels 200. It includes a fixing post 310 and a U-shaped fixing member 320. The lower end of the fixing post 310 is positioned at a predetermined position on the outer surface 100 of the liquid tank. The U-shaped fixing member 320 is positioned between the two inner insulation layers 210. The bottom of the U-shaped fixing member 320 is fixed to the upper end of the fixing post 310. The top of the U-shaped fixing member 320 is provided with a folded edge 321, which is positioned on the stepped side of the prefabricated insulation panel 200. The joints between the inner insulation layers 210 are filled with an elastic insulating caulking material 540. The fixing post 310 is made of a material with a low thermal conductivity, including but not limited to wood and Teflon plastic, to reduce heat transfer to the fixing assembly 300. The prefabricated insulation panels are secured by the mutual fastening of the U-shaped fixing member and the fixing post. In one embodiment, a first threaded hole is formed at the upper end of the fixing post, allowing the U-shaped fixing member to be secured to the fixing post using bolts and washers. The elastic thermal insulation caulking material is an elastic thermal insulation material, including but not limited to glass wool, elastic cotton, aerogel felt, polyethylene plastic, etc. The elastic thermal insulation caulking material fills gaps, thereby maintaining a good thermal insulation effect.
[0047] The insulating plug 400 is placed within the U-shaped region of the U-shaped fixture 320. Its function is to limit the deformation of the U-shaped fixture toward its center plane when subjected to force. Simultaneously, the insulating plug fills the gap within the U-shaped fixture, which helps the present invention maintain its excellent thermal insulation properties. Due to installation requirements, a gap exists between the bottom of the insulating plug and the bottom of the U-shaped fixture. The space between the bottom of the insulating plug 400 and the bottom of the U-shaped fixture 320 is filled with a filler 500. This gap is filled with a filler, and its materials include, but are not limited to, low-temperature glue, silicone, epoxy resin glue, and the like.
[0048] The joint insulation panel 510 is arranged in the joint between adjacent outer insulation layers 220. The joint insulation panel 510 connects the prefabricated insulation panel 200, the extended overlapping layer 231, the U-shaped fixing member 320 and the insulation plug 400; the gap between the joint insulation panel 510 and the outer insulation layer 220 is filled with foam filling material 520.
[0049] The joint protection layer 530 is applied to the upper surface of the joint of the prefabricated insulation board 200. The materials of the joint protection layer include polymer materials, fiberglass materials and metal materials, which can provide good mechanical protection and anti-aging protection.
[0050] In the above implementation process, the installation and fixation of the prefabricated insulation panels are achieved by arranging fixing components between the two prefabricated insulation panels and filling the joints with insulation plugs, joint insulation panels and joint protective layers. Compared with the traditional insulation panels that need to be designed with slots and connected and fixed at the slots, the insulation system disclosed in the present application utilizes fixing components. On the one hand, there is no need to design additional slots, and the structure of the prefabricated insulation panels is simple. Simplifying the product structure can shorten the design cycle, simplify the installation process, and thus reduce costs. On the other hand, compared with slotted insulation panels, which need to be sealed and fixed at 2-3 locations such as the slots of the prefabricated insulation panels and the joints of the prefabricated insulation panels, the present application proposes to connect and fix the insulation system in the joint area of the insulation panels. The installation process is simple, the installation difficulty is low, and it is conducive to maintaining a good quality level and improving the reliability of the system. At the same time, completing the installation and fixation in one go can also avoid the problem of adjusting the installation environment multiple times.
[0051] In the above embodiment, in order to reduce construction, referring to FIG4 , two adjacent rows of prefabricated insulation panels 200 are staggered, and the fixing components 300 are arranged at the joints of the three prefabricated insulation panels 200 at a preset distance, wherein a folded edge 321 of the U-shaped fixing member 320 is placed on the stepped side surfaces of the two prefabricated insulation panels 200 at the same time.
[0052] Referring to Figures 1 and 5, the splash shield plate 600 is also included. The splash shield plate 600 is arranged on the outer surface 100 of the liquid tank. The prefabricated insulation board 200 is arranged on the splash shield plate 600. The inner surface of the splash shield plate 600 is provided with a protrusion structure 610. A continuous annular space is formed between the protrusion structure 610 and the outer surface 100 of the liquid tank. The shape of the protrusion structure can be polygonal (see Figure 9) or hemispherical (see Figure 10). The outer surface of the splash shield plate 600 is provided with a metal layer 640. The metal layer can be a metal foil or a metal sheet to form a liquid-tight layer to act as a splash shield. The splash shield plate 600 is made of insulating materials, including but not limited to polyurethane foam plastics, polystyrene foam plastics, polyethylene plastics and phenolic foam plastics. There are multiple splash shield panels 600. The joints between adjacent splash shield panels 600 are filled with insulating filler strips 620. These filler strips are made of elastic, thermally insulating caulking material to absorb deformation and prevent damage caused by deformation and mutual compression of the splash shield panels at low temperatures. The upper surface of the joints is coated with a flexible, liquid-tight material 630. This flexible, liquid-tight material can be made of glass fiber aluminum foil, carbon fiber aluminum foil, or a composite material. This material forms a liquid-tight layer on the joints, thereby acting as a splash shield.
[0053] In one embodiment, the fixing assembly 300 further includes a first stud 330, the bottom of which is fixedly connected to the outer surface 100 of the liquid tank, and the lower end of the fixing column 310 is connected to the top of the first stud 330, and the lower end of the fixing column 310 compresses and fixes the splash shield 600. In another embodiment, the lower end of the fixing column is provided with a second threaded hole, and the lower end of the fixing column is fastened to the first stud through the second threaded hole, thereby compressing and fixing the splash shield.
[0054] The annular space serves as a leakage channel, directing cryogenic liquid leaking from the tank to the bottom of the tank. Referring to Figures 1, 7, and 8, a gas purge device 700 is installed within the annular space. The splash shield 600 covers the gas purge device 700. The gas purge device 700 includes multiple fixing assemblies 710 and a gas purge pipe 720. The multiple fixing assemblies 710 are fixed to predetermined positions on the outer surface 100 of the tank along a predetermined airflow direction (direction of the arrow in Figure 6). Each fixing assembly 710 includes a fixing clamp 711 and two second studs 712. The two second studs 712 are symmetrically fixed to the outer surface 100 of the tank. The fixing clamp 711 includes a clamping portion and two connecting portions distributed on either side of the clamping portion, each connecting portion connecting one second stud 712. The gas purge pipe 720 is located below the clamping portion of the fixing clamp 711 and has multiple air holes 721 for exhausting gas. Before actual shipboard operation, the annular space is purged by filling the gas purge pipe 720 with an appropriate gas, achieving rapid and complete drying and inerting of the annular space. The independent gas purge design effectively dries and inertes the annular space, facilitating faster and more accurate detection of leaking gas. The resulting annular space offers excellent gas-liquid flow, facilitating better diversion of leaking liquids, and achieving space drying and inerting.
[0055] In one embodiment, the inner insulation layer 210, the outer insulation layer 220 and the reinforcement layer 230 are bonded by an adhesive, and the extended overlapping layer 231 of the reinforcement layer 230 is arranged above the U-shaped fixing member. The reinforcement layer is composed of one or more mesh materials, including glass fiber mesh cloth, carbon fiber mesh cloth and metal mesh.
[0056] In one embodiment, an elastic insulation layer 550 is provided between the splash shield 600 and the prefabricated insulation panel 200. The elastic insulation layer 550 is made of an elastic insulation material, including but not limited to glass wool, elastic cotton, aerogel felt, polyethylene plastic, etc. The elastic insulation layer 550 is designed to fill the gap between the splash shield 600 and the prefabricated insulation panel 200 through natural compression after installation, thereby maintaining a good insulation effect in the present invention.
[0057] In one embodiment, an outer protective layer 800 is further included and is disposed on the outer surface of the prefabricated insulation panel. The material of the outer protective layer 800 has a preset strength and includes polymer, fiberglass reinforced plastic, and metal.
[0058] In one embodiment, an adhesive, which can be low-temperature glue, is provided on the bottom of the seamed insulation panel 510. The adhesive connects the seamed insulation panel 510 to the prefabricated insulation panel 200, the extended overlap layer 231, the U-shaped fastener 320, and the insulation plug 400. The seams between the sides of the seamed insulation panel 510 and the prefabricated insulation panels are filled with polyurethane foam.
[0059] In a second aspect, the present application further provides a ship, comprising the insulation system as described in any one of the embodiments in the first aspect.
[0060] The above description is merely a preferred embodiment of the present application and is not intended to limit the present application. Various modifications and variations are possible for those skilled in the art. Any modifications, equivalent substitutions, or improvements made within the spirit and principles of the present application shall be included within the scope of protection of the present application.
