Abstract
Description
Airbag device
[0001] The present invention relates to an airbag device that is deployed to the side of an occupant seated in a seat.
[0002] A vehicle airbag device includes a folded, bag-shaped airbag body and an inflator that ejects gas to inflate and deploy the airbag body. A conventional vehicle airbag device is housed in the side edge of the seatback on the door side, and deploys the airbag body forward from the side of the seatback in the event of a side collision of the vehicle, thereby absorbing impact on the occupant.
[0003] Patent Document 1 discloses a vehicle airbag device that has an inflator, a bag main body that houses the inflator and is stored in a folded state within a seat back, and that inflates and deploys due to gas generated by the inflator when an impact is applied, and the bag main body is provided with a shape restricting part that maintains the shape of the bag when deployed.
[0004] International Publication No. 2010 / 008060
[0005] In the above-mentioned Patent Document 1, the shape restricting portion includes an upper shape restricting portion formed by sewing the upper portion of the bag body to the trunk portion, and a lower shape restricting portion formed by sewing the lower portion of the bag body to the trunk portion. This restricts the thickness of the upper and lower portions of the bag body from decreasing in the vehicle width direction, thereby ensuring the desired impact stroke of the bag body. However, there is a problem in that the deployment speed and deployment range of the bag body may be insufficient, and the bag body may not be able to adequately cover the sides of a seated occupant.
[0006] The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and aims to provide an airbag device that is attached to the seat frame of a vehicle seat and that protects an occupant by deploying the airbag body outward in the vehicle width direction of the occupant seated in the seat when an impact is applied, and that can cover the entire side of the occupant seated in the seat with the airbag body and can quickly deploy the airbag body when an impact is applied.
[0007] The above object of the present invention is achieved by the following configuration: [1] An airbag device attached to a seat frame of a vehicle seat and configured to protect an occupant seated in the seat by deploying an airbag body at least on one of the outer and inner sides in a vehicle width direction of the occupant when an impact is applied, wherein a housing that houses the airbag body is formed in a tubular shape that extends vertically and has an upper opening that is open at its upper end and a lower opening that is open at its lower end, and is provided at least on one of the outer and inner sides in the vehicle width direction of the seat frame, the housing has a first tear line portion and a first guide portion, the first tear line portion extends vertically from the upper opening to the lower opening at a front end of the housing body and is configured to break when the airbag body is deployed forward, and the first guide portion blocks at least a portion of at least one of the upper opening and the lower opening.
[0008] According to the vehicle airbag of the present invention, the first guide portion can control the deployment direction and deployment position of the airbag body that deploys from the seat frame toward the side of the occupant, so that the deployed airbag body can cover the entire side of the occupant seated in the seat, and the airbag body can be deployed more quickly to the specified position when an impact is applied.

[0010] An airbag device according to one embodiment of the side airbag of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. This embodiment is merely an example of the present invention, and the present invention is not limited to this embodiment. Various modifications and improvements can be made to this embodiment, and such modifications and improvements can also be included in the present invention.
[0011] In this embodiment, the forward direction of the vehicle is referred to as "forward," and the backward direction of the vehicle is referred to as "rear." The left side of the forward direction of the vehicle is referred to as "left," and the right side of the forward direction of the vehicle is referred to as "right." Furthermore, the left-right direction and the vehicle width direction are synonymous, and the front-rear direction and the forward and backward directions are synonymous.
[0012] (Overall configuration) Fig. 1 is a front perspective view showing a seat. Fig. 2 is a front view showing the installation position of the airbag device. Fig. 3 is a side view of the seat back part showing the tubular fabric with the side covering parts omitted. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line A-A in Fig. 2 showing the airbag device in a housed state.
[0013] In a vehicle, seats for occupants are arranged side by side in the left-right and front-rear directions. Each seat 100 has a seat cushion portion 10 that forms a seating surface on which the occupant sits, and a seat back portion 20 that forms a backrest. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 1.
[0014] The seatback 20 has a main body 20A and a pair of side walls 20B, 20B disposed on both the left and right sides of the main body 20A, extending in the up-down direction and bulging forward. The seatback 20 has an inverted U-shaped seat frame 21 fitted inside the main body 20A, a cushion pad material 22 supported by the seat frame 21, and a covering member 50 covering these. The cushion pad material 22 is a member made of metal, urethane resin, or the like, and the covering member 50 is a sheet-like member made of leather, cloth, resin, or the like that covers the surface of the cushion pad material 22.
[0015] The seat frame 21 has a pair of left and right vertical frame portions 21B extending in the up-down direction along the side wall portions 20B, and a horizontal frame portion 21A extending in the left-right direction so as to connect the upper ends of the pair of vertical frame portions 21B. An airbag device 30 is attached and fixed to the left and right outer surfaces of the vertical frame portions 21B at a midpoint in the up-down direction. Here, cushion pad material 22 within the side wall portions 20B supported on the left and right outer sides of the seat frame 21 has mounting holes 24 extending in the left-right direction from the left-right outer surfaces to the seat frame 21, and the airbag device 30 is disposed within this mounting hole 24. This configuration can be seen in Figure 4.
[0016] The airbag device 30 includes an airbag module 31, a tubular cloth 40, and a side covering portion 50A. The airbag module 31 is attached to the seat frame 21 and disposed in a mounting hole 24 formed in the side wall portion 20B. The airbag module 31 is housed in the tubular cloth 40. The left and right outer sides of the mounting hole 24, into which the tubular cloth 40 and the airbag module 31 are housed, are covered by a side covering portion 50A, which is a part of a covering member 50 that covers the surface of the side wall portion 20B. As a result, the airbag device 30 in a housed state before deployment is disposed within the side wall portion 20B so that it is not visible by the side covering portion 50A. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 4, etc. The airbag device 30 is disposed in the side wall portion 20B, which is disposed on both the left and right sides of the seat back portion 20, closest to the vehicle door. The airbag device 30 may be provided on both the left and right side wall portions 20B of the seat back portion 20.
[0017] The airbag module 31 has an airbag body 32 and an inflator 33. The inflator 33, which extends in the vertical direction, is attached and fixed to the seat frame, and the bag-shaped airbag body 32 is supported in front of the inflator 33 in a folded and housed state. This configuration can be seen in Figure 4.
[0018] The inflator 33 is formed in a cylindrical shape that is elongated in the vertical direction along the vertical frame portion 21B of the seat frame 21, and is attached and fixed to the vertical frame portion 21B of the seat frame 21 while housed in the airbag body 32. Gas outlets (not shown) for ejecting gas for inflating and deploying the airbag body 32 are provided at the lower end, upper end, and front portion of the inflator 33. When an impact detection sensor (not shown) provided in the vehicle detects a side collision of the vehicle with an impact force equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the inflator 33 ejects gas into the folded and housed airbag body 32, thereby inflating the airbag body 32 to a predetermined deployment state. The inflator 33 is provided with mounting bodies 34, which are a pair of upper and lower rod-shaped members that extend inward in the left-right direction toward the seat frame 21. The mounting bodies 34 are inserted into fixing holes 25 formed in the vertical frame portion 21B and fixed with bolts or the like, thereby attaching and fixing the inflator 33 to the seat frame 21.
[0019] The airbag body 32 is a bag-shaped member that is supported by the inflator 33 in a compact, stored state by being contracted and folded. When the airbag body 32 is filled with gas ejected from the inflator 33, it is quickly switched from the stored state to a deployed state in which it inflates forward, left and right, and up and down, and is deployed to the side of an occupant seated in the seat. The specific deployment operation by which the airbag body 32 changes from the stored state to the deployed state will be described later.
[0020] The tubular cloth 40 is a cylindrical container having an upper opening 41 and a lower opening 42 formed by connecting the ends of a sheet body that is long in the front-to-rear direction at its front end, and has a container portion 40A, an inner portion 40B, an outer portion 40C, a first tear line portion 44 that is broken by the airbag body 32 at its front end, and a first guide portion 45 that controls the deployment direction of the airbag body 32. A reinforcing cloth 60 is provided on the upper portion of the tubular cloth 40. The reinforcing cloth 60 has a second tear line portion 61 that is broken by the airbag body 32 at its front end, and a second guide portion 62 that controls the deployment direction of the airbag body 32.
[0021] The storage portion 40A is disposed within the mounting hole 24 and is formed to cover the outer peripheral surface of the airbag module 31, constituting the rear portion of the tubular cloth 40. The inner portion 40B extends forward from the front ends of the left and right inner sides of the storage portion 40A, and the outer portion 40C extends forward from the front ends of the left and right outer sides of the storage portion 40A, constituting the front portion of the tubular cloth 40. The front end of the outer portion 40C is connected to the front end of the inner portion 40B via the first tear line portion 44, thereby forming the tubular cloth 40 into a cylindrical shape. As a result, the storage portion 40A is provided in a storage space formed between the mounting hole 24 and the side covering portion 50A, and the inner portion 40B and the outer portion 40C are provided so as to be sandwiched between the side covering portion 50A and the cushion pad material 22 in front of the mounting hole 24. At this time, an insertion hole (not shown) is formed in the housing portion 40A, through which the mounting body 34 of the inflator 33 is inserted, and by inserting the mounting body 34 into the insertion hole, the housing portion 40A of the tubular cloth 40 is sandwiched in the left-right direction between the seat frame 21 and the inflator 33. This configuration can be seen in Figure 4, etc.
[0022] The first tear line portion 44 is formed by a first vertical sewn portion that tearably sews together the front end of the inner portion 40B and the front end of the outer portion 40C. The first tear line portion 44 extends vertically from the upper end (upper opening 41) to the lower end (lower opening 42) at the front end of the tubular cloth 40, and is disposed along the vertical ridges on the outer left and right sides of the front end of the side wall portion 20B. The first tear line portion 44 is configured by weakening the first sewn portion that forms the first tear line portion 44 so that it can be quickly and reliably split by the inflating and deploying airbag body 32.
[0023] The first tear line portion 44 is not limited to the first sewn portion as long as it has a configuration that allows it to be broken by the inflation and deployment of the airbag body 32. For example, the first tear line portion 44 may be formed by a thin-walled portion or perforations extending in the vertical direction at the front end of the tubular member, which allows for smooth breaking.
[0024] The first guide portion 45 is formed by an extension portion 46 extending upward from one of the left and right directions on the upper end of the accommodation portion 40A that accommodates the airbag module 31, and a second sewn portion 47 connecting the end of the extension portion 46 to the other side of the upper end of the accommodation portion 40A. The extension portion 46 is thus provided to bridge the front half of the upper opening 41, thereby firmly sealing the front portion of the upper opening 41. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 3 . The second sewn portion 47 extends in the front-rear direction and is formed from the front end of the upper opening 41 to a midpoint in the front-rear direction of the upper opening 41, more specifically, from the center in the front-rear direction to a position rearward. The second sewn portion 47 is inclined from the rear end of the upper opening 41 toward the upper front. The second sewn portion 47 is sewn with a strength greater than that of the first sewn portion that forms the first tear line portion 44, and is formed with a strength sufficient to withstand tearing even when the airbag body 32 is deployed.
[0025] With this configuration, the first guide portion 45 can restrict the airbag body 32 from deploying upward and rearward more than a predetermined amount immediately after the inflator 33 starts filling the airbag body 32 with gas. Furthermore, because the second sewn portion 47 is inclined upward toward the front, the first guide portion 45 reduces the amount of upward and rearward restriction as the airbag body 32 deploys forward. As a result, the first guide portion 45 can increase the forward deployment speed of the airbag body 32 while widening the deployment range of the airbag body 32 on the side of the seat 100.
[0026] The reinforcing cloth 60 is a reinforcing member attached so as to overlap the top of the tubular cloth 40, and like the tubular cloth 40, has a housing portion 60A, an inner portion 60B, and an outer portion 60C. In this embodiment, the reinforcing cloth 60 is provided over approximately one-third of the top of the tubular cloth 40 in the vertical direction, and is provided over the entire outer surface of the tubular cloth 40. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 3. The reinforcing cloth 60 may also be provided over approximately the upper half of the tubular cloth 40 in the vertical direction, or may be provided over the entire inner surface of the tubular cloth 40.
[0027] The second tear line portion 61 is formed by simultaneously sewing the front end of the inner portion 60B and the front end of the outer portion 60C together using the first sewn portion of the first tear line portion 44. The second tear line portion 61 extends vertically from the top to the bottom at the front end of the tubular fabric 40 and is disposed along the vertical ridges on the left and right outer sides of the front end of the side wall portion 20B. This allows the second tear line portion 61, together with the first tear line portion 44, to be quickly and reliably split by the inflating and deploying airbag body 32. Note that the inner portion 60B and outer portion 60C of the reinforcing fabric 60 and the first sewn portion may be sewn (connected) separately from the first sewn portion of the first tear line portion 44.
[0028] The second guide portion 62 is formed by a reinforcing extension portion 63 extending along the extension portion 46 and the second sewn portion 47. As a result, the reinforcing extension portion 63 is provided by the second sewn portion 47 so as to bridge the rear half of the upper opening 41 together with the extension portion 46 of the tubular cloth 40. This configuration can be seen in Figure 3.
[0029] According to this configuration, the provision of the reinforcing cloth 60 on the upper part of the tubular cloth 40 reinforces the upper part of the tubular cloth 40 and increases its rigidity. This prevents a portion of the upper part of the tubular cloth 40 from breaking due to the impact from the airbag body 32 that is explosively and rapidly deployed by the inflator 33. In other words, the provision of the reinforcing cloth 60 more reliably enables the tubular cloth 40 to perform the guide function of the airbag body 32 and also increases the deployment speed of the airbag body 32.
[0030] The side covering portion 50A is a sheet-like cover body that covers the outer surface of the side wall portion 20B and includes a first cover portion 51, a second cover portion 52, and a third tear line portion 53. The first cover portion 51 covers at least the left and right outer surfaces to the rear surface of the side wall portion 20B, and the second cover portion 52 covers at least the front surface of the side wall portion 20B. The third tear line portion 53 is formed by simultaneously sewing the front end of the first cover portion 51 and the left and right outer ends of the second cover portion 52 together using first stitching portions in the vertical direction that form the first tear line portion 44. As a result, the third tear line portion 53 is provided along the vertical ridge lines on the left and right outer sides of the front end of the side wall portion 20B and is formed, together with the first tear line portion 44 and the second tear line portion 61, to be rupturable by the inflating and deploying airbag body 32.
[0031] Here, the front end of the first cover portion 51 of the side covering portion 50A may be integrally connected to the front end of the inner portion 40B of the tubular cloth 40, and the left and right outer ends of the second cover portion 52 of the side covering portion 50A may be integrally connected to the front end of the outer portion 40C of the tubular cloth 40. In this configuration, the third tear line portion 53 connecting the first cover portion 51 and the second cover portion 52 of the side covering portion 50A is formed in the same straight line along the first tear line portion 44 of the tubular cloth 40.
[0032] (Operations and Effects) Next, operations and effects of the airbag device will be described with reference to Figures 4 to 8. Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Figure 2, showing the state in which the airbag body has reached the first tear line portion. Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Figure 2, showing the state in which the airbag body has broken through the tear line portions. Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Figure 2, showing the state in which the airbag body has broken through the tear line portions and is supported by the guide portions. Figure 8 is a side view of the main parts, showing the deployed position of the airbag.
[0033] According to the airbag device 30 described above, when an impact of a predetermined magnitude or greater is applied to the vehicle body and the impact detection sensor detects a side collision of the vehicle body, gas is ejected from the inflator 33, causing the airbag body 32, which is housed in the mounting hole 24 so as to fit therein, to expand and deploy to a deployed state in which it is inflated and deployed to cover the sides of the occupant seated in the seat 100. The deployment operation of the airbag body 32 will now be described.
[0034] The airbag body 32 begins to inflate due to the gas ejected from the inflator 33 and begins to advance toward the front of the tubular cloth 40, pushing apart the gap between the cushion pad material 22 of the side wall portion 20B and the side covering portion 50A in the left-right direction, and inflates as it advances toward the first tear line portion 44 formed at the front end of the tubular cloth 40. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 5 . As the airbag body 32 reaches the first tear line portion 44 within the tubular cloth 40 and continues to inflate, the tubular cloth 40 tears along the first tear line portion 44. As a result, the second tear line portion 61 of the reinforcing cloth 60 and the third tear line portion 53 of the side covering portion 50A, which are sewn together by the first sewn portion that forms the first tear line portion 44, simultaneously tear. In other words, the airbag body 32 breaks through the first sewn portion formed in the side covering portion 50A on the front surface of the side wall portion 20B, jumps out from within the side wall portion 20B, and is quickly deployed forward of the side wall portion 20B. This configuration can be seen in Figure 6. In this way, the airbag body 32 is switched from the stored state to the deployed state.
[0035] According to this configuration, the deployed airbag body 32 receives the occupant, thereby reliably absorbing and mitigating the inertial force acting on the occupant's upper body in a side collision. This reduces the relative speed of the occupant with the side wall of the vehicle body, preventing the occupant seated in the seat 100 from colliding with the side wall of the vehicle body or the like.
[0036] Furthermore, the airbag device 30 is configured so that the airbag body 32 is deployed within the tubular cloth 40, thereby preventing the airbag body 32 from getting caught on something during deployment and hindering deployment, thereby improving robustness.
[0037] Furthermore, in the airbag device 30, the tubular cloth 40 is provided with the first guide portion 45 that closes the rear half of the upper opening 41, so that when gas is ejected from the inflator 33 into the airbag body 32 and the airbag body 32 is inflating within the mounting hole 24, the airbag body 32 is restricted from expanding upward and rearward by the first guide portion 45, and therefore the airbag body 32 advances forward at a faster rate because its upward and rearward deployment is restricted by the first guide portion 45. Therefore, in the event of a side collision of the vehicle, the upper portion of the airbag body 32 can be quickly deployed forward of the side wall portion 20B of the seat 100.
[0038] Furthermore, the airbag device 30 has an upper portion of the airbag body 32 in a deployed state that is supported by the first guide portion 45 and the second guide portion 62 in a manner that pushes the upper portion of the airbag body 32 forward. This increases the area that the deployed airbag body 32 covers on the sides of the seat 100, and also prevents the deployed airbag body 32 from moving rearward due to recoil from deployment, etc. This configuration can be seen in Figures 7 and 8.
[0039] In this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 8 , the third tear line portion 53 formed on the side covering portion 50A extends from the lower end to the upper end of the side wall portion 20B for design reasons. Specifically, the third tear line portion 53 slopes upward and rearward along the ridge of the side wall portion 20B, extending higher and rearward than the upper end of the first tear line portion 44 formed on the tubular cloth 40 within the side wall portion 20B. Therefore, as shown by the two-dot chain line in FIG. 8 , if the airbag device 30 tears up to the upper end of the third tear line portion 53 due to the airbag body 32 deploying, there is a risk that the deployed position of the airbag body 32 will tilt upward. In response to this, by providing the first guide portion 45 on the tubular cloth 40, the first guide portion 45 can support the airbag body 32 so that it does not tilt rearward, even if the third tear line portion 53 splits upward due to the airbag body 32 deploying. This allows the airbag body 32 to be deployed in an appropriate position even if the shape of the third tear line portion 53 changes depending on the design of the seat back portion 20, thereby improving versatility.
[0040] In the above embodiment, the first guide portion 45 is formed to close the front half of the upper opening 41 by the extension portion 46 and the second sewn portion 47 in the front-to-rear direction. However, the first guide portion 45 may be formed to close the entire upper opening 41, or may be configured to close the rear half of the upper opening 41. The first guide portion 45 may also be configured to close the lower opening 42. Furthermore, the first guide portion 45 may be configured to be provided on both the upper opening 41 and the lower opening 42. With this configuration, even if the deployment position and deployment range of the airbag main body 32 in the deployed state vary depending on the design of the seat back portion 20, in other words, the shape of the third tear line portion 53 of the side covering portion 50A, the extension speed and deployment range of the airbag main body 32 can be appropriately adjusted by changing or adjusting the position of the first guide portion 45 provided on the tubular cloth 40.
[0041] The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and modifications and improvements can be made as appropriate.
[0042] As described above, the present specification discloses the following: (1) An airbag device that is attached to a seat frame of a vehicle seat and that, upon application of an impact, protects an occupant by deploying an airbag body at least on either the outer or inner side in a vehicle width direction of the occupant sitting in the seat, wherein a housing that houses the airbag body is formed in a tubular shape that extends in a vertical direction and has an upper opening that is open at an upper end and a lower opening that is open at a lower end, and is provided at least on either the outer or inner side in the vehicle width direction of the seat frame, the housing has a first tear line portion and a first guide portion, the first tear line portion extends in a vertical direction at a front end of the housing body from the upper opening to the lower opening and is formed to break when the airbag body is deployed forward, and the first guide portion blocks at least a portion of at least one of the upper opening and the lower opening. According to this configuration, the first guide portion can control the deployment direction and deployment position of the airbag body that deploys from the seat frame toward the side of the occupant, so that the deployed airbag body can cover the entire side of the occupant seated in the seat, and can deploy the airbag body more quickly to the specified position when an impact is applied.
[0043] (2) The airbag device according to (1), wherein the first guide portion is formed to continuously block the upper opening from the upper end of the first tear line portion to a midpoint in the front-rear direction. This configuration restricts the airbag body from deploying beyond a predetermined amount in the up-down and front-rear directions immediately after the airbag body starts to deploy, thereby guiding the deployment direction of the airbag body forward and increasing the forward deployment speed of the airbag body.
[0044] (3) The airbag device according to (2), wherein the rear end of the first guide portion is located at the center of the upper opening in the front-rear direction. With this configuration, the airbag body can be deployed in an expanded position so as to cover the entire side of the seated occupant while improving the deployment direction and deployment speed of the airbag body.
[0045] (4) The airbag device according to any one of (1) to (3), further comprising a reinforcing cloth provided along the circumferential direction of the housing on the side of the housing where the first guide portion is formed in the up-down direction, wherein the reinforcing cloth has a second tear line portion formed thereon that extends in the up-down direction along the first tear line portion of the housing, and the second tear line portion is formed to break together with the first tear line portion when the airbag main body is deployed forward. According to this configuration, the provision of the reinforcing cloth that reinforces the housing can increase the rigidity of the housing, thereby preventing the housing from breaking when the airbag main body deploys explosively at high speed and increasing the forward deployment speed of the airbag main body 32.
[0046] (5) The airbag device according to (4), wherein the reinforcing cloth is formed with a second guide portion extending along the first guide portion of the housing, and the second guide portion covers at least a portion of at least one of the upper opening and the lower opening. With this configuration, the housing can be maintained in a state in which it can be smoothly split by the deployment operation of the airbag main body 32 while increasing the rigidity of the housing by the reinforcing cloth.
