The extension plate 200a may be an integral part of the mounting plate 2005, or can be secured to the mounting plate 2005.

[0057] The storage compartment 2013 may be configured to receive the at least one utility module 3001, for example a tool caddy, a container, or any other suitable utility module. In an embodiment, the storage compartment 2013 may be configured as a charging dock, adapted to hold battery modules and / or dock the battery modules for charging.

[0058] The substantially smaller section of each of the support channels 2001a and 2001b extends through the extension plate 200a as shown in Fig. 2. The extension plate 200a associated with the mounting plate 2005 is defined with a plurality of through-holes on either side of the storage compartment 2013. The through-holes may be adapted to receive the smaller section of the support channels 2001a and 2001b. As noted, the mobile carrier unit 2000 includes a handle frame 2002 which extends upwardly and substantially vertically from the base frame 2001 (in use condition). The handle frame 2002 is typically pivotally coupled to the base frame 2001 and may be structured to be operable between an unfolded condition, shown in Fig. 2, and a folded condition, shown in Fig. 4. The handle frame 2002 is displaceable between the unfolded condition and the folded condition manually, by pressing on at least one actuator. The handle frame 2002 includes a pair of elongated columns 2003a and 2003b, each ingressed into a corresponding channel of the substantially smaller section of support channels 2001a and 2001b. The handle frame 2002 is pivotally coupled to the base frame 2001, in this specific example by a pivotal pin. However, any other suitable mechanism that can be employed to pivotally connect the handle frame 2002 and the base frame 2001 should be construed within the scope of the present disclosure.

[0059] One or more locking members 2014 (Figs. 7-8) are associated with the handle frame 2002, typically disposed proximal to the smaller section of the support channels 2001a and 2001b. The locking member 2014 may be a bar, a retention pin or a rod connected to each of the handle frame 2002. An end of the handle frame 2002 opposite to the end pivotally coupled to the support channels 2001a and 2001b is connected with a handle 2006, which may be used by an operator to operate the mobile carrier unit 2000.

[0060] The handle frame 2002 may be a unitary module having a defined length, with the elongated columns 2003a and 2003b having a defined length. In another arrangement, the handle frame 2002 includes telescopic columns 2003.

[0061] Each of the telescopic columns 2003 are pivotally coupled, at one end thereof, to a corresponding support channel of the pair of support channels 2001a and 2001b. At their opposite ends, telescopic columns 2003 are configured to receive a multi-stage telescopic section 2004. The multi-stage telescopic sections 2004 are adjustable between varying height, and operable between an extended condition and a retracted condition (not explicitly shown), typically by pressing onto a press-button 2007. The press-button 2007 is disposed on a cross member 2018 of the handle frame 2002. The press-button 2007 is operatively coupled to the multi-stage telescopic sections 2004 and operated to displace the multi-stage telescopic section between the extended condition and the retracted condition. As seen in Fig. 3B, an axial pin AP is provided in the cross member 2018 and operatively coupled the press-button 2007 and being selectively engageable or from the multi-stage telescopic section 2004. The axial pin AP is axially displaceable upon operation of the press-button 2007 to engage with the multi-stage telescopic section 2004 to displace the movement of the multi-stage telescopic section between the extended condition and the retracted condition.

[0062] The mobile carrier unit 2000 includes a locking module 2010 (Figs. 7-8) configured between a support member 2016 (Figs. 5-6) and a base frame 2001. A portion of the support member 2016 is secured to the base frame 2001 by the locking module, and remaining portion of the support member 2016 is secured to the extension frame of the mounting plate 2005. A space is defined between the base frame 2001 and the support member 2016, the space configured to receive the locking module 2010. The locking module 2010 is configured to selectively engage and disengage with the locking member 2014 configured in the handle frame 2002 to selectively lock and release the handle frame from the unfolded condition to the folded condition.

[0063] The locking module 2010 includes a lock bar 2017, operatively disposed in a space defined between the support bar 2016 and the base frame 2001. Further, the locking module 2010 includes a locking latch 2011 provided at either ends of the support bar 2016 or configured to engage with the locking member 2014 associated with the handle frame 2002. A release lever 2009 is operatively coupled to the locking latch 2011 through the lock bar 2017, and selectively operated the locking latch 2011 between a lock position and an unlock position. The locking latch 2011 is adapted to selectively lock and release (also referred to as engage and disengage, respectively) with the locking member 2014 associated with handle frame 2002. In the unfolded condition, the locking latch 2011 is engaged with the locking member 2014 to arrest the movement of the handle frame 2002 relative to the base frame 2001, as seen in Fig. 7.

[0064] Fig. 8 depicts the locking member 2014 disengaged from the locking latch 2011. To displace the handle frame 2002 to the folded condition from the unfolded condition, the release lever 2009 may be operated.

[0065] The base frame 2001 is provided with a locomoting arrangement 2012, e.g. wheels, operatively coupled to either ends of the base frame 2001 to provide locomotion to the frame 2002. In some examples, locomoting arrangement may be a motorized or propelled arrangement.

[0066] The release lever 2009 may be a lever that is operated manually to displace the locking latch 2011 between the lock position and the unlock position. In another configuration, the release lever 2009 may be a foot-operated lever. The release lever 2009 may be operated to displace the locking latch 2011 of the locking module 2010 from the lock position to the unlock position. The locking latch 2011 engaged with the locking member 2014 in the lock position is pivotally downwardly movable upon operation of the release lever 2009. Displacement of the locking latch 2011 from the lock position to the unlock position releases the locking member 2014, in turn enabling the handle frame 2002 to displace from the unfolded condition to the folded condition. As the locking latch 2011 is configured to be spring biased, upon releasing the release lever 2009 the locking latch 2011 displaces from the unlock position to the lock position.

[0067] A resilient member (not explicitly shown) may be disposed between the support member 2016 and the lock bar 2017. The resilient member may be integrally defined with the lock bar 2017, such as, but not limiting to, a resilient flap extending from the lock bar. In another example, the resilient member may be a torsional spring, or a bellow. Any other suitable resilient members may also be employed to spring bias the locking latch 2011 from the unlock position to the lock position without deviating from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0068] The handle frame 2002 is displaceable from the folded condition to the unfolded condition, and may be locked at the unfolded condition by the locking latch 2011. During the displacement of the handle frame 2002 to the unfolded condition, the locking member 2014 associated with the handle frame 2002 glides over the locking latch 2011, to partially displace the locking latch 2011 from the lock position to the unlock position. Upon displacing the handle frame 2002 to the unfolded position completely, the locking latch 2011 reverts to the lock position, thereby locking the locking member 2014 and locking the handle frame 2002 in the unfolded condition, while and restricting the pivotal displacement of the handle frame.

[0069] The utility module 3001 is detachably secured to the mobile carrier unit 2000, i.e. detachably engageable with the mounting plate 2005. As noted, the mounting plate 2005 is configured with at least one male connector or at least one female connector, that are adapted to receive a corresponding coupling member defined in the utility module 3001. For instance, the mounting plate 2005 may be defined with the female connectors which are configured to receive the corresponding male connectors on the utility module 3001.

[0070] The configuration of the mobile carrier unit 2000 ensures that the mobile carrier unit can be stored in a substantially smaller space as the handle frame 2002 and the base frame 2001 are displaceable to the unfolded and the folded conditions. The folding mechanism employed is simple and requires less maintenance. Also, the base frame 2001 of the mobile carrier unit 2000 may also be adapted to provide structural rigidity to the mounting plate 2005 on which the utility module 3001 may be detachably connected. For the purposes of promoting an understanding of the principles of the disclosure, reference has been made to specific embodiments illustrated in the drawings and specific language has been used to describe the same. For instance, in the description, the plurality of female connectors are considered to be defined on the carrier frame (in particular the on the cross member) and in some cases on the handle of the mobile carrier unit and the one or more male connectors are defined on the body of the at least one utility module. It should be appreciated that similar configuration of the engagement members i.e. the plurality of female connectors and the one or more male connectors can be interchangeably provided. That is the plurality of female connectors may be provided over the body of the at least one utility module and the one or more male connectors may be configured in the carrier frame of the mobile carrier unit. It will nevertheless be understood that no limitation of the scope of the disclosure is thereby intended, such alterations and further modifications in the illustrated methods, and such further applications of the principles of the disclosure as illustrated therein being contemplated as would normally occur to one skilled in the art to which the disclosure pertains.
