Description

[0001] A method and device used to identify unknown patients

[0002] Detailed Description:

[0003] The invention focuses on the process of retrieving information from a medical information system, which includes a comprehensive database storing the complete medical history of the patient. This system operates by storing vital information, including past treatments, diagnoses, and prescribed medications, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the patient's health. Various biometric data types are feasible for use in the system, such as iris scan, retinal scan, facial / body scan, DNA / genome-based identifiers, fingerprints, etc. For illustrative purposes, the processes are described using a retinal / iris scanner, facial scan, full body imaging, fingerprint scans, blood testing, or their combinations. To retrieve the desired results from the system, the authorized person initiates the device (100) by using the power button (101) and entering their credentials. Patient clinical and visible information is entered via the data input and display control screen (102), which serves as the central interface for operating the device. It facilitates seamless data entry and result display, ensuring a user-friendly experience for the authorized personnel. The screen integrates a tactile keyboard for efficient data input and a high-resolution display for clear visualization of patient details and analysis results. The system then interfaces with the server, preparing to receive information from various sources, including hospital records, governmental records, Absher databases, and the like. Patient information encompassing details such as name, national ID number, age, date of birth, medical history, blood type, etc., is then provided. If unable to obtain results, the biometric fingerprint reader (103) employs advanced fingerprint scanning technology to enhance accuracy and reliability. It ensures a swift and secure method for confirming patient identity, particularly when traditional identification methods may not be feasible. In cases where fingerprints are not viable due to chronic diseases or other factors such as burn victims or loss of extremities, the portable dual and three-dimensional camera (106) tool is used for capturing detailed images. It encompasses a portable camera with a handle, enabling easy handling by the authorized personnel and facilitates the capture of various biometric data, including facial scans, full-body images, and eye biometrics, ensuring a comprehensive approach to patient identification. Furthermore, a direct blood sample can be taken by inserting the blood sample directly into the sample collector (104). Following the sample collection for analysis, the biometric information analysis system plays a pivotal role in processing and interpreting the obtained data. This system employs sophisticated algorithms to analyze biometric information, providing insights into the patient's medical history, chronic diseases, and allergies. The display screen (107) then serves as the interface for presenting analysis results and identifying potential risks. The high-resolution screen provides a detailed overview of the patient's laboratory analysis, ensuring quick and accurate decision-making that contributes to informed decision-making in emergency situations by the authorized personnel. Incorporating a report and medical summary printing system (108), the device enables the generation of detailed reports summarizing the patient's health status. The printed reports serve as valuable documentation for medical records, facilitating seamless communication between healthcare providers and ensuring continuity of care. The device further enables external connection of third-party devices like portable phones, computers, or other desired devices to upload external data, receive system updates, or access additional information relevant to patient care by using USB ports (109).

[0004] The portable dual and three-dimensional (3D) camera (206) with a detachable cable (212) provides an advanced and versatile solution for capturing biometric data with precision and ease. Design considerations for the detachable cable add flexibility, allowing easy removal of the camera or connection to another device, enhancing adaptability in various healthcare settings. The inclusion of a dedicated button (211) for initiating the scanning process ensures user-friendly operation for authorized personnel. This button features a smooth control mechanism, allowing users to simply activate the camera for capturing essential biometric data, whether it be eye or full-body biometrics, facial scans, or linking the results together. The dual and 3D design contributes to streamlining the process, enhancing overall recognition efficiency. The authorized person begins by holding the device at an optimal distance of approximately 5 cm from the patient, pressing the dedicated button (211) to initiate the scanning process. When the 3D camera (204) completes the scanning process, the results are instantly displayed on the high-definition screen (213). This mechanism provides real-time feedback, offering immediate insights into the captured biometric data, enabling authorized personnel to efficiently assess and confirm the patient's identity. The clarity and responsiveness of the screen contribute to the overall effectiveness of the portable camera system. The current design features a portable fingerprint scanner (303) as a primary component for biometric recognition. This small and portable device offers a solution for capturing fingerprint data, enhancing the overall accuracy and reliability of patient recognition. Initiating the fingerprint scanning process is simplified by operating the dedicated power button (305). This button serves as a control point for authorized personnel, allowing them to activate the fingerprint scanner. The user-friendly design ensures a straightforward process, reducing the time required for identification procedures. The core of the fingerprint scanning system lies in the digital touch scanner (314). The authorized person guides the patient to place their finger on the scanner, initiating the capture of unique fingerprint patterns. The sensitive touch technology ensures a smooth workflow, contributing to an enhanced overall user experience. Upon completion of the scan, the device provides immediate feedback through visual indicators. A red light on the screen (315) indicates scan failure, while a green light signifies success. The complete mobility of the device is confirmed, and this is facilitated by the presence of a detachable and movable cable (316). This feature allows easy mobility and adaptation in various healthcare settings. The detachable cable ensures that the fingerprint scanner can be used in diverse scenarios, enhancing its utility in different hospital environments.

[0005] The system establishes a direct communication process with nearby hospitals, specialized medical practitioners, and emergency personnel through messages and other means. This ensures real-time communication upon the detection of a condition, both inside and outside the hospital, sending messages and information to relevant parties, creating a support network for unconscious or unknown patients. It can be used in other medical settings, such as ambulances, to provide the person's data before reaching the hospital, offering a proactive approach to emergency response. Integration with organizations like the Red Crescent or transport services facilitates immediate communication of critical information to healthcare facilities, streamlining the admission process. The collected information will be used to determine the identity of young or unknown patients who may be suffering from sudden physical deformities or other bodily characteristics resulting from accidents or other incidents. This capability ensures that the system can be used even in challenging cases, such as burns, fractures, and swellings, using 3D images to identify the patient's identity based on height, weight, and body structure after approximating the shape to its natural form, providing a comprehensive solution for patient identification.
