Description

Absorbent article and method for manufacturing the absorbent article

[0001] The present invention relates to an absorbent article and a method for manufacturing an absorbent article.

[0002]

[0003] Conventionally, absorbent articles containing a fragrance have been known. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a disposable diaper in which a fragrance (a contact-sensitive fragrance material) is located on the surface of a backsheet, and a breathable material (a nonwoven web bonded to an apertured film layer) is fixedly attached to the surface of the backsheet.

[0003] Special Publication No. 2000-513627

[0004] In the disposable diaper of Patent Document 1, the fragrance is contained in a binder (a binding material including an adhesive). This makes it difficult for the fragrance to be released, potentially making it difficult for the user to sense the fragrance. Furthermore, while the film layer constituting the breathable member has apertures, the breathable member and the backsheet are bonded together by a binder. Therefore, the size of the aperture space is constant and relatively small, corresponding only to the thickness of the film layer. Therefore, even if the fragrance is released from the binder, it is difficult for it to remain in the aperture space, resulting in poor fragrance persistence. Furthermore, in Patent Document 1, the fragrance is contained in the binder, so the fragrance is widely coated over the entire surface of the backsheet. In this case, the amount of fragrance per unit area tends to be small, which also tends to reduce the fragrance's persistence. This results in the fragrance's effects not being fully realized when the absorbent article is in use.

[0005] The present invention has been made in consideration of the above-mentioned problems, and its object is to provide an absorbent article that increases the persistence of fragrance while making it easier for the user to feel the fragrance.

[0006] The main invention for achieving the above object is an absorbent article having a width direction, a length direction, and a thickness direction which are perpendicular to one another in an unfolded state, a liquid-absorbent core, a leak-barrier sheet provided on the farther side of the absorbent core from the skin, and a non-skin-side sheet provided on the farther side of the leak-barrier sheet from the skin, wherein the absorbent article has a fragrance-applied area on the farther side of the leak-barrier sheet, the fragrance-applied area extending linearly in a predetermined direction, and when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the fragrance-applied area has a portion which overlaps with a non-jointed portion where the leak-barrier sheet and the non-skin-side sheet are not joined. Other features of the present invention will become apparent from the description of this specification and the accompanying drawings.

[0007] According to the present invention, it is possible to provide an absorbent article that enhances the persistence of a fragrance and allows the user to easily sense the fragrance.

[0009] The present specification and the accompanying drawings make at least the following clear: (Aspect 1) An absorbent article having a width direction, a length direction, and a thickness direction which are orthogonal to one another in an unfolded state, the absorbent article comprising a liquid-absorbent core, a leak-barrier sheet provided on the farther side of the absorbent core from the skin, and a non-skin-side sheet provided on the farther side of the leak-barrier sheet from the skin, the absorbent article comprising a fragrance-applied region on the farther side of the leak-barrier sheet from the skin, the fragrance-applied region extending linearly in a predetermined direction, the fragrance-applied region having a portion which overlaps with a non-joined portion where the leak-barrier sheet and the non-skin-side sheet are not joined when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction.

[0010] According to Aspect 1, the fragrance is placed closer to the non-skin side of the absorbent article, making it easier for the fragrance to be released to the outside, making it easier for the user to feel the fragrance. Furthermore, the fragrance is released over a wide area in a predetermined direction of the absorbent article, thereby achieving its effect. Furthermore, compared to, for example, applying the fragrance to the entire flat surface, a predetermined amount of fragrance can be applied more thickly, improving the durability of the fragrance. Furthermore, the fragrance is more likely to volatilize and remain in the space between the leak-proof sheet and the non-skin-side sheet in the non-jointed area, making it possible to effectively utilize the fragrance while increasing its durability.

[0011] (Aspect 2) An absorbent article as described in Aspect 1, wherein when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the fragrance application area has a portion that overlaps with the non-jointed portion continuously from one end to the other end in the specified direction.

[0012] According to Aspect 2, the space between the leak-barrier sheet and the non-skin-side sheet extends continuously in the predetermined direction, which allows the fragrance to easily volatilize into the space and diffuse in the predetermined direction, thereby achieving the effects of the fragrance over a wide area in the predetermined direction of the absorbent article.

[0013] (Aspect 3) The absorbent article according to aspect 1 or 2, wherein when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the fragrance-application area has a portion that overlaps with the absorbent core.

[0014] According to aspect 3, when the absorbent core absorbs excretory fluid, the humidity in the space between the leak-proof sheet and the non-skin-side sheet increases, allowing the fragrance to adhere to the humid air and increase the persistence of the fragrance.

[0015] (Aspect 4) An absorbent article according to any one of Aspects 1 to 3, wherein when the absorbent article is viewed in the thickness direction in an unfolded state, the fragrance-application area has a portion that overlaps with a central area when the absorbent article is divided into three parts in the longitudinal direction.

[0016] According to the fourth aspect, the fragrance is easily released around the wearer's legs, which are exposed from the absorbent article, and the fragrance's function (for example, insect repellent function) is effectively exerted.

[0017] (Aspect 5) An absorbent article according to any one of aspects 1 to 4, having an elastic member that stretches in the width direction, the fragrance application areas extending in the longitudinal direction and arranged in multiple areas in the width direction, and the elastic member and the multiple fragrance application areas overlap in the width direction.

[0018] According to aspect 5, the elastic member narrows the spacing between the multiple fragrance application areas, increasing the amount of fragrance per unit area, making it easier for the user to sense the fragrance.

[0019] (Aspect 6) The absorbent article according to any one of Aspects 1 to 5, wherein the perfume application area extends in the longitudinal direction or the width direction.

[0020] According to the sixth aspect, the fragrance is released over a wide area in the longitudinal or width direction of the absorbent article, and the effects of the fragrance are exerted.

[0021] (Aspect 7) An absorbent article according to any one of aspects 1 to 6, comprising an absorbent main body having the absorbent core and a waistband portion, wherein the non-jointed portion having a portion overlapping with the fragrance application area extends in the longitudinal direction, has an opening that opens at one end of the absorbent main body in the longitudinal direction, and is continuous in the longitudinal direction from the fragrance application area to the opening.

[0022] According to Aspect 7, the fragrance can diffuse through the space between the leak-barrier sheet and the non-skin-side sheet to the edge of the absorbent main body. The fragrance is then released from the opening to the outside of the absorbent main body, making it easier for the fragrance to be released to the outside of the absorbent article. This makes it easier for the user to sense the fragrance.

[0023] (Aspect 8) An absorbent article as described in Aspect 7, further comprising a cover sheet that covers the one end of the absorbent main body in the longitudinal direction from the skin side, and when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the opening of the non-jointed portion has a portion where the cover sheet overlaps with a second non-jointed portion that is not joined to the waist portion and the absorbent main body.

[0024] According to Aspect 8, the fragrance is released to the outside of the absorbent body through the opening that overlaps with the second non-jointed portion, and is therefore more likely to be released to the outside of the absorbent article. In addition, the pressure of the cover sheet can prevent the space between the leakproof sheet and the non-skin-side sheet from being crushed, allowing the fragrance to volatilize and remain in the space.

[0025] (Aspect 9) An absorbent article according to aspect 7 or 8, wherein in the waist portion, a plurality of waist elastic members that stretch in the width direction are arranged in the longitudinal direction, and the longitudinal distance between the opening of the non-jointed portion and the waist elastic member that is closest to the opening on one side of the longitudinal direction than the opening is greater than the average distance between adjacent waist elastic members in the longitudinal direction in the waist portion on one side of the longitudinal direction.

[0026] According to Aspect 9, the waist portion near the opening is fitted to the wearer by the elastic member, preventing the opening from being crushed. This allows the fragrance to be released from the opening to the outside of the absorbent main body, and is also more likely to be released to the outside of the absorbent article.

[0027] (Aspect 10) An absorbent article according to any one of aspects 1 to 9, having a printed portion visible from the non-skin-facing side of the absorbent article, and when the absorbent article is viewed in the thickness direction in an unfolded state, the fragrance application area does not overlap with the printed portion in the central region when the absorbent article is divided into three in the longitudinal direction.

[0028] According to aspect 10, the ink in the printed portion in the central region can be prevented from hindering the evaporation and release of the fragrance to the outside, thereby ensuring the full effect of the fragrance.

[0029] (Aspect 11) An absorbent article described in any of Aspects 1 to 10, wherein the fragrance-application area and the joint where the leak-proof sheet and the non-skin side sheet are joined extend in the longitudinal direction, the fragrance-application area is located between a plurality of the joints lined up in the width direction, and the widthwise spacing between adjacent joints with the fragrance-application area between them is wider than the widthwise spacing between adjacent joints without the fragrance-application area between them.

[0030] According to Aspect 11, the width of the non-jointed portion that overlaps the fragrance-application area is increased, and the width of the space between the leak-barrier sheet and the non-skin-side sheet is also increased, making it easier for the fragrance to volatilize and remain in the space.

[0031] (Aspect 12) An absorbent article according to any one of aspects 1 to 11, comprising an absorbent main body having the absorbent core and a waist portion, wherein the waist portion has a stretchable region that stretches in the width direction and a non-stretchable region, wherein the fragrance application regions extend in the longitudinal direction and are arranged in multiple rows in the width direction, and when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, each portion of the multiple fragrance application regions located in the waist portion overlaps with the non-stretchable region.

[0032] According to aspect 12, the elastic member allows the fragrance to be placed in an area away from areas where wrinkles are likely to form in the absorbent article, making it easier for the fragrance to volatilize and be released to the outside of the absorbent article.

[0033] (Aspect 13) An absorbent article according to any one of aspects 1 to 12, wherein the non-jointed portion has an elastic member that stretches in the width direction, and the non-jointed portion has a portion that overlaps with the fragrance application area, and is perpendicular to the elastic member.

[0034] According to Aspect 13, contraction of the elastic member causes the leak-barrier sheet and the non-skin-side sheet to bend outward in the thickness direction, making it easier to form spaces, which makes it easier for the fragrance to volatilize into the spaces and remain in the spaces.

[0035] (Aspect 14) An absorbent article according to any one of aspects 1 to 13, wherein the joint where the leak-proof sheet and the non-skin-side sheet are joined extends linearly in the specified direction, and the maximum width of the fragrance-application area in a direction perpendicular to the specified direction is greater than the maximum width of the joint.

[0036] According to aspect 14, the width of the fragrance application area is ensured, the fragrance evaporates more easily, and the user can more easily sense the fragrance.

[0037] (Aspect 15) A method for manufacturing an absorbent article having a liquid-absorbent core, a leak-proof sheet located on the non-skin side of the absorbent core, and a non-skin side sheet located on the non-skin side of the leak-proof sheet, with width, length, and thickness directions that are perpendicular to each other when in an unfolded state, characterized in that the method for manufacturing an absorbent article includes the steps of: applying a fragrance to the skin side of the non-skin side sheet to form a fragrance-application area; and applying adhesive to the skin side of the non-skin side sheet so that, when the absorbent article in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the fragrance-application area has an area that overlaps with the non-jointed portion where the leak-proof sheet and the non-skin side sheet are not joined.

[0038] According to Aspect 15, the fragrance is placed closer to the non-skin side of the absorbent article, which makes it easier for the fragrance to be released to the outside, making it easier for the user to feel the fragrance. Furthermore, the fragrance is more likely to volatilize and remain in the space between the leak-proof sheet and the non-skin-side sheet in the non-jointed area, making it possible to effectively utilize the fragrance while increasing its durability.

[0039] (Aspect 16) A method for manufacturing an absorbent article according to aspect 15, wherein the step of forming the fragrance application area is carried out after the step of applying the adhesive.

[0040] According to the sixteenth aspect, the fragrance can be prevented from being removed by a nozzle or the like during the adhesive application process, and the fragrance can be fixed to the absorbent article.

[0041] Embodiments In the following, a pants-type disposable diaper for infants will be described as an example of an absorbent article according to this embodiment. However, the absorbent article according to this embodiment is not limited to this and can also be applied to, for example, pants-type disposable diapers for adults, shorts-type napkins, tape-type disposable diapers, urine absorption pads, sanitary napkins, and diapers for pets.

[0042] ===Basic Structure of Pants-Type Disposable Diaper 1=== Fig. 1 is a schematic perspective view of a pants-type disposable diaper 1 (hereinafter also referred to as "diaper 1") as seen from the ventral side. Fig. 2 is a schematic plan view of the diaper 1 in an unfolded and stretched state as seen from the skin side. Fig. 3 is a schematic cross-sectional view taken along line AA in Fig. 2.

[0043] The unfolded state of the diaper 1 refers to the state in which the pair of side seams 2 on both sides of the diaper 1 are separated and the diaper 1 is opened and unfolded in a flat plane. The stretched state of the diaper 1 refers to the state in which the elastic members of the diaper 1 are stretched to the extent that wrinkles in the diaper 1 are no longer visible. Specifically, this refers to the state in which the dimensions of each component of the diaper 1 are stretched to the same or similar dimensions as the individual components (i.e., the dimensions when the elastic members are not stretched).

[0044] As shown in Fig. 1, the diaper 1 has a vertical direction, a width direction, and a front-to-rear direction, which are perpendicular to each other, and is formed with a waist opening BH and a pair of leg openings LH. In the front-to-rear direction, the side facing the wearer's abdomen is referred to as the front side, and the side facing the wearer's back is referred to as the rear side. In addition, the diaper 1 has a width direction, a longitudinal direction, and a thickness direction in an unfolded state. In the thickness direction, the side that contacts the wearer is referred to as the skin side, and the opposite side is referred to as the non-skin side.

[0045] The diaper 1 has an absorbent main body 10 and waist-line sections 20, 30 arranged on the non-skin side of the absorbent main body 10. The diaper 1 of this embodiment is a so-called three-piece type, and the waist-line section has a ventral waist-line section 20 and a dorsal waist-line section 30, and the non-skin side of the absorbent main body 10 below the ventral waist-line section 20 and the dorsal waist-line section 30 is exposed to the outside.

[0046] The non-skin-facing side of the front longitudinal end of the absorbent body 10 is joined with an adhesive or the like to the skin-facing side of the ventral waistline section 20, and the non-skin-facing side of the rear longitudinal end of the absorbent body 10 is joined with an adhesive or the like to the skin-facing side of the back waistline section 30. From the unfolded state of the diaper 1 shown in Figure 2, the absorbent body 10 is folded in half so that the ventral waistline section 20 and the back waistline section 30 face each other, and both widthwise sides of the ventral waistline section 20 and both widthwise sides of the back waistline section 30 are joined by welding (for example, thermal welding or ultrasonic welding) or the like to form a pair of side joining sections 2, thereby turning the diaper 1 into a pants-type diaper.

[0047] The absorbent body 10 comprises a liquid-permeable top sheet 11, a liquid-absorbent absorbent core 12, a liquid-impermeable or liquid-slightly liquid-permeable leak-barrier sheet 13 provided closer to the skin than the absorbent core 12, and an outer sheet 14 (non-skin-side sheet) provided closer to the skin than the leak-barrier sheet 13, all of which are bonded together with an adhesive or the like. The longitudinal direction of the diaper 1 in the unfolded state corresponds to the longitudinal direction of the absorbent body 10, and corresponds to the vertical direction of the diaper 1 in the pants-type state.

[0048] The absorbent core 12 may be formed into a predetermined shape by incorporating a superabsorbent polymer into liquid-absorbent fibers such as pulp fibers. The absorbent core 12 may be covered with a core wrap sheet 17 such as liquid-permeable tissue paper or nonwoven fabric. Other examples of the absorbent core 12 include an SAP sheet in which an SAP layer is attached to a hydrophilic sheet, and an airlaid sheet in which liquid-absorbent fibers are formed into a sheet by an airlaid method. The top sheet 11 and the exterior sheet 14 may be formed from nonwoven fabrics, etc. The leak-proof sheet 13 may be formed from a resin film, etc.

[0049] The absorbent main body 10 has leakage preventing walls 16 on both widthwise sides that can stand up on the skin side. For example, both widthwise sides of the outer sheet 14 are folded inward in the widthwise direction so that they are positioned on the skin-side surface of the top sheet 11, and leakage preventing wall elastic members 161 (e.g., rubber thread) that stretch in the longitudinal direction (vertical direction) are provided in the folded-back portions, thereby forming the leakage preventing walls 16. Furthermore, although not shown, the absorbent main body 10 may also have leg-around elastic members (e.g., rubber thread) that stretch in the longitudinal direction on both widthwise sides. This allows the diaper 1 to fit snugly around the wearer's legs.

[0050] As shown in Fig. 3, the ventral waist portion 20 and the back waist portion 30 each have a skin-side sheet 21, 31 and a non-skin-side sheet 22, 32 made of a flexible nonwoven fabric or the like, and a plurality of waist elastic members 23, 33 (e.g., rubber thread) that stretch in the width direction. The plurality of waist elastic members 23, 33 are arranged in the waist portions 20, 30 at intervals in the vertical direction (longitudinal direction) and are fixed to the sheets in a stretched state in the width direction. Therefore, the ventral waist portion 20 and the back waist portion 30 are stretchable in the width direction to fit the waist of the wearer.

[0051] Although the basic structure of the diaper 1 has been described above, the structure of the diaper 1 is not limited to the above. For example, the diaper 1 may be a two-piece type diaper, in which the ventral waistband 20 and the dorsal waistband 30 are formed from a single continuous member, or an outer member for the crotch portion connecting the ventral waistband 20 and the dorsal waistband 30 is provided. In this case, too, the portion of the diaper 1 (outer member) that overlaps with the side joint portion 2 in the longitudinal direction is defined as the waistband. Furthermore, the waistband elastic members 23, 33 and the leg elastic members may be sheet-like elastic members (stretchable films or stretchable nonwoven fabrics) instead of rubber thread.

[0052] First Embodiment (Fragrance-Applied Region 40) Figures 4 to 6 are explanatory diagrams of the fragrance-applied region 40. Figure 4 is a schematic plan view of the absorbent main body 10 when the diaper 1 is in an unfolded state and viewed in the thickness direction. Figures 5A and 5B are enlarged views of a portion of Figure 4, illustrating the process of applying the adhesive HMA and the fragrance. Figure 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of an enlarged portion of Figure 4. Figures 7 and 8 are views illustrating modified examples of the fragrance-applied region 40 and the non-bonded portion 50.

[0053] The diaper 1 of this embodiment is coated with a fragrance. The fragrance may include an isolated fragrance or may be a fragrance composition composed of multiple types of fragrances, and may contain a solvent (e.g., isopropyl myristate) in addition to the fragrance. For example, the fragrance may be a mixture of a synthetic fragrance with a fragrance similar to citronellal and lemongrass oil. Alternatively, the fragrance may be a mixture of a synthetic fragrance with a fragrance similar to citronellal and citronellal.

[0054] The fragrance of this embodiment contains a component that exhibits an insect repellent function. The component that exhibits an insect repellent function is a component that functions as a repellent (insect repellent) against pests such as mosquitoes, moths, midges, and flies, and the component preferably contains at least one of citronellal and azadirachtin. In addition to the above-mentioned components, other examples of the component include menthol, α-terpineol, linalyl acetate, lavandulol, isopulegol, benzyl acetate, ethyl linalool, menthane, camphene, tetrahydrolinalool, dihydrolinalool, dihydromyrcenol, ocimenol, terpinyl acetate, isobornyl acetate, geranyl formate, p-menthane-3,8-diol, 2-(tert-butyl)cyclohexyl acetate, dihydroterpinyl acetate, mugol, myrcenol, nerol, phenylethyl acetate, 4-tert-butylcyclohexyl acetate, citronellyl acetate, neryl acetate, anisyl acetate, geranyl acetate, ethyl linalyl acetate, tricyclodecenyl acetate, cinnamyl acetate, and the like, and it is desirable to contain at least one of the above-mentioned components. The diaper 1 containing such a component that exhibits a repellent function can exhibit an insect repellent function while being worn.

[0055] However, the fragrance is not limited to a fragrance having an insect repellent function, and may be, for example, a fragrance that has a function of masking the odor of excrement or a fragrance that has a function of alleviating the depression of the user of the diaper 1.

[0056] As shown in Figure 3, the diaper 1 has a fragrance-applied region 40, where a fragrance is applied, on the non-skin side of the leak-barrier sheet 13. The fragrance-applied region 40 is a region of the diaper 1 where a fragrance is applied and disposed. In the manufacturing process of the diaper 1 of this embodiment, the fragrance is applied to the skin-side surface of the outer sheet 14. However, it is sufficient that some or all of the fragrance is applied (disposed) on the non-skin side of the leak-barrier sheet 13, and the fragrance may also be applied to the non-skin side of the leak-barrier sheet 13 or the non-skin side of the outer sheet 14. The fragrance of this embodiment is a volatile substance and is applied in liquid form.

[0057] 2, the flavor-application area 40 extends linearly in the longitudinal direction (predetermined direction). In this embodiment, two flavor-application areas 40 extending in the longitudinal direction are arranged side by side with a gap in the width direction.

[0058] 4 shows joints 51 where the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the exterior sheet 14 are joined, and non-joints 50 where the two sheets (13, 14) are not joined. In this embodiment, the multiple joints 51 and multiple non-joints 50 each extend linearly in the longitudinal direction and are arranged alternately in the width direction. An example of a joining method for the joints 51 is a joining method using an adhesive such as a hot melt adhesive HMA. However, the joining method is not limited to this, and may also be a joining method using welding, pressure bonding, or the like.

[0059] The fragrance-applied regions 40 are located in the non-bonded regions 50 between the bonded regions 51 arranged in the width direction. Therefore, when the diaper 1 in the unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction (see FIG. 4 ), the fragrance-applied regions 40 have portions that overlap with the non-bonded regions 50 where the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14 (non-skin-side sheet) are not bonded. In this embodiment, the entire fragrance-applied region 40 overlaps with the non-bonded regions 50 without overlapping with the bonded regions 51 (adhesive HMA).

[0060] In the case of an absorbent article having an elastic member such as the diaper 1, it is advisable to check the positional relationship between the fragrance-applied region 40 and the non-jointed portion 50 with the absorbent article in an unfolded and stretched state as shown in Fig. 2. The same applies to the following cases where lengths or positions are specified or compared.

[0061] As a result of the above, the fragrance is positioned further out (away from the skin) of the diaper 1 than when the fragrance-application area 40 is positioned closer to the skin than the leak-barrier sheet 13, and is more likely to be released to the outside of the diaper 1. In particular, the leak-barrier sheet 13 is made of a liquid-impermeable film or the like, which makes it more difficult for the fragrance to pass through than nonwoven fabric or the like, and therefore, as a result of the above, the fragrance is more likely to be released to the outside of the diaper 1. This makes it easier for the user (the child who wears it, their guardian, etc.) to sense the fragrance, and is more likely to get the impression that the fragrance's effect (insect repellent function) is being obtained, allowing them to use the diaper 1 with peace of mind. In fact, the fragrance being more likely to be released to the outside of the diaper 1 enhances the insect repellent function.

[0062] Although the type of the outer sheet 14 is not particularly limited, in this embodiment, it is made of nonwoven fabric, which allows the fragrance to easily pass through the gaps between the fibers of the outer sheet 14 and be easily released to the outside of the diaper 1.

[0063] Furthermore, by distributing the fragrance in a long line in a predetermined direction (here, the longitudinal direction), the fragrance's effect (insect repellent function) is exerted over a wide area in the predetermined direction of the diaper 1. Furthermore, when applying a certain amount of fragrance to the diaper 1, applying the fragrance in a long line increases the basis weight of the fragrance (amount of fragrance per unit area) compared to applying the fragrance flatly, for example, over the entire flat surface of the leak-barrier sheet 13. Applying the fragrance thickly can slow the evaporation speed of the fragrance. In other words, the basis weight of the fragrance can be increased while reducing the amount of fragrance applied to the diaper 1, thereby improving the persistence of the fragrance.

[0064] Furthermore, the fact that the fragrance-application region 40 overlaps the non-joined portion 50 means that the fragrance is applied to the area where the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14 are separated in the thickness direction, as shown in FIG. 6 . The non-joined portion 50 has a lower material density and lower airflow resistance than the joined portion 51. Furthermore, the non-joined portion 50 does not inhibit the evaporation of the fragrance due to the adhesive (HMA). Therefore, the fragrance is more likely to evaporate in the space formed by the separation of the two sheets (13, 14) in the non-joined portion 50, allowing the fragrance applied to the diaper 1 to be effectively utilized. Furthermore, since the fragrance can be retained in the space, the fragrance's durability is also improved. As described above, the diaper 1 of this embodiment improves the durability of the fragrance and makes it easier for the user to experience the fragrance.

[0065] The term "the fragrance-application region 40 extends linearly in a predetermined direction" means that the length of the fragrance-application region 40 in the predetermined direction (here, the longitudinal direction) is longer than the length in the direction perpendicular to the predetermined direction (here, the width direction). The width of the fragrance-application region 40 in the direction perpendicular to the predetermined direction is preferably approximately 20 mm or less. This allows the width of the non-bonded portion 50 to be reduced to match the fragrance-application region 40, thereby preventing the two sheets (13, 14) from peeling or lifting due to an increase in the width of the non-bonded portion 50. Furthermore, the predetermined direction is not limited to the longitudinal direction. The fragrance-application region 40 may extend in the width direction as shown in FIG. 11 (described later), or may extend in a direction inclined relative to the longitudinal and width directions (not shown). Furthermore, the "linear" shape is not limited to the linear shape shown in FIG. 4; the fragrance may be distributed in a curved shape as shown in FIG. 7A. The fragrance may also be distributed on the diaper 1 in a well-known curved pattern, such as an Ω pattern or a spiral pattern. 8A, the fragrance-applied areas 40 may extend to the longitudinal ends 10a, 10b of the absorbent main body 10. The above is one example, and the fragrance-applied areas 40 may extend linearly in a predetermined direction, and the number, length, and arrangement positions of the fragrance-applied areas 40 are not particularly limited.

[0066] The shape, size, and position of the fragrance-applied area 40 can be confirmed by known methods. For example, the material in the fragrance-applied area 40 becomes wet, resulting in a different color from the surrounding area (e.g., when a fragrance is applied to a white nonwoven fabric, the fragrance-applied area 40 becomes whiter), allowing the fragrance-applied area 40 to be identified visually. Another example is a method in which the target material (e.g., the outer sheet 14) is removed from the diaper 1, divided into small sections to form multiple samples, and each sample is subjected to component analysis using a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (e.g., Shimadzu Corporation's GCMS-QP2010 Plus or an equivalent device). The fragrance-applied area 40 may be identified based on whether or not the divided samples contain fragrance. Alternatively, the fragrance may be contained in microcapsules. In this case, the presence or absence of microcapsules can be confirmed using an electron microscope or the like to identify the fragrance-applied area 40.

[0067] Furthermore, it is sufficient that the fragrance-applied region 40 has a portion that overlaps the non-bonded region 50, and a portion of the fragrance-applied region 40 may overlap the non-bonded region 50, and another portion may overlap the bonded region 51 (adhesive HMA). For example, in the modified example shown in Fig. 7B, the bonded region 51, which extends in the longitudinal direction while meandering in the width direction, overlaps with the fragrance-applied region 40. In the modified example shown in Fig. 7C, the bonded regions 51 are positioned intermittently in the longitudinal direction, and overlap with the fragrance-applied region 40 intermittently in the longitudinal direction. In these cases as well, the fragrance overlapping the non-bonded region 50 is likely to volatilize and remain in the space between the two sheets (13, 14).

[0068] However, in Fig. 7B, the overlapping portion of the flavor-application region 40 and the non-jointed portion 50 is divided in the longitudinal direction by a joint portion 51 that crosses the flavor-application region 40. Also, in Fig. 7C, the overlapping portion of the flavor-application region 40 and the non-jointed portion 50 is shortened in the longitudinal direction.

[0069] On the other hand, in this embodiment, when the diaper 1 in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the fragrance application area 40 has a portion that overlaps with the non-bonded portion 50 continuously from one end 40a to the other end 40b in the longitudinal direction (predetermined direction).

[0070] In this case, the space between the two sheets (13, 14) extends continuously in the longitudinal direction, so that the fragrance can easily evaporate into the space and diffuse in the longitudinal direction. This allows the fragrance to exert its effect (insect repellent effect) over a wide area in the longitudinal direction of the diaper 1. Furthermore, the fragrance can be retained within the space extending in the longitudinal direction, which also improves the durability of the fragrance.

[0071] 7B may be shifted in the width direction, or the width of the pattern of the joint 51 may be shorter than the width of the fragrance-application area 40, so that the joint 51 overlaps only a portion of the width of the fragrance-application area 40. In this case, the remaining portion of the fragrance-application area 40 in the width direction may have a continuous portion overlapping with the non-joined portion 50 from one end 40a to the other end 40b in the longitudinal direction.

[0072] However, it is preferable that the entire fragrance-applied area 40 of this embodiment overlaps with the non-bonded area 50 and does not overlap with the bonded area 51 (adhesive HMA) at all, as in the case of the fragrance-applied area 40 of this embodiment. This allows more fragrance to volatilize into the space between the two sheets (13, 14) and remain in that space.

[0073] 4, when the fragrance-application region 40 has a shorter longitudinal length than the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14, the non-bonded portion 50 preferably extends continuously in the longitudinal direction even on the longitudinal extension of the fragrance-application region 40. In other words, the non-bonded portion 50 preferably extends continuously in the longitudinal direction from one or both longitudinal ends 40a, 40b of the fragrance-application region 40 to the longitudinal ends of both sheets (13, 14). This allows the fragrance to diffuse further in the longitudinal direction, and the effect of the fragrance is exerted over a wider area in the longitudinal direction of the diaper 1.

[0074] 2, when the diaper 1 is viewed in the thickness direction in the unfolded state, the fragrance-applied region 40 preferably has a portion that overlaps with the absorbent core 12. As in the case of the fragrance-applied region 40 of this embodiment, the entire fragrance-applied region 40 may overlap with the absorbent core 12, or only a portion of the fragrance-applied region 40 may overlap with the absorbent core 12.

[0075] As described above, when the absorbent core 12 absorbs excreted liquid during use of the diaper 1, the humidity of the air in the space (unjoined portion 50) between the two sheets (13, 14) where the fragrance-applied area 40 is located increases. This allows the evaporated fragrance to combine with the high-humidity air, making it easier for the fragrance to remain in the space, thereby improving the sustainability of the fragrance. Furthermore, it is preferable that the leak-barrier sheet 13 be a moisture-permeable film. This prevents leakage of excreted liquid, while allowing the high-humidity air around the absorbent core 12 to migrate into the space between the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14, where it is more likely to combine with the fragrance. This improves the sustainability of the fragrance.

[0076] Furthermore, when the diaper 1 in its unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, it is preferable that the fragrance-application region 40 has a portion that overlaps with the central region 1C when the diaper 1 is divided into three longitudinal regions. As shown in Fig. 2, in the longitudinal direction in which the fragrance-application region 40 extends, the fragrance-application region 40 may be located over the entire central region 1C, or may be located over only a portion of the central region 1C.

[0077] The central region 1C of the diaper 1 corresponds to the crotch area of the wearer. Therefore, as described above, the fragrance-application region 40 is located in the area corresponding to the wearer's leg area (crotch area). This allows the fragrance to be easily released around the wearer's leg area, which is exposed from the diaper 1, and the fragrance's insect repellent function is effectively achieved.

[0078] In the case of a pants-type diaper 1, it is preferable that the fragrance-applied region 40 extends in the longitudinal direction from the lower end of the ventral side joint 2 to the lower end of the dorsal side joint 2, as shown in Figure 2. This ensures that the fragrance's effect (insect repellent function) is more reliably exerted around the wearer's legs, which are exposed from the diaper 1.

[0079] Fig. 9 is a schematic plan view of the diaper 1 in an unfolded and stretched state, as viewed from the non-skin side. Fig. 10 is a diagram showing a modified example of the fragrance-application region 40. The diaper 1 has waist-line elastic members 23, 33 (elastic members) that stretch in the width direction in the waist-line portions 20, 30. The fragrance-application regions 40 extend in the longitudinal direction and are arranged in multiple (two in this example) rows in the width direction. In this case, it is preferable that the waist-line elastic members 23, 33 and the multiple fragrance-application regions 40 overlap in the width direction on at least one of the ventral and dorsal sides.

[0080] 9, the widthwise positions of the two flavor-applied regions 40 coincide with the widthwise position of the sixth waist elastic member 23c from the bottom to the upper waist elastic member 23 in the ventral waist portion 20. Thus, the two flavor-applied regions 40 overlap with the ventral waist elastic member 23 in the widthwise direction. Similarly, the widthwise positions of the two flavor-applied regions 40 coincide with the widthwise position of the fifth waist elastic member 33c from the bottom to the upper waist elastic member 33 in the back waist portion 30. Thus, the flavor-applied regions 40 overlap with the back waist elastic member 33 in the widthwise direction.

[0081] By doing so, the contractile force of the waist elastic members 23, 33 in the width direction narrows the spacing between the multiple fragrance-applied areas 40 that are aligned in the width direction. This increases the amount of fragrance per unit area, making it easier for the user to sense the fragrance. In particular, the spacing between the multiple fragrance-applied areas 40 becomes narrower when the diaper 1 is in its natural state (unloaded state) before being worn. This makes it easier for the user to sense the fragrance before using the diaper 1, and allows the user to anticipate the effects of the fragrance.

[0082] Furthermore, not only in pants-type diapers 1, but also in tape-type diapers, for example, an elastic member that stretches in the width direction may be provided in the waistband portion on the back side. It is preferable that the elastic member and the plurality of flavor-application areas 40 overlap in the width direction.

[0083] Furthermore, as shown in a modified example in Fig. 10A, two flavor-applied regions 40 may extend upward and directly intersect with the waistline elastic members 23c, 23d. Alternatively, as shown in a modified example in Fig. 10B, the waistline portion (here, the ventral waistline portion 20) may not have a non-stretchable region NS (described later), and the waistline elastic member 23 may exhibit continuous stretchability in the width direction between a pair of side joints 2. This allows the two flavor-applied regions 40 to directly intersect with the waistline elastic members 23a, 23b. In these cases, the contractile force of the waistline elastic members 23, 33 acts directly on the multiple flavor-applied regions 40 lined up in the width direction, making the spacing between them more likely to be narrower, making it easier for the user to sense the flavor.

[0084] The waist regions 20, 30 have stretchable regions that stretch in the width direction due to the waist elastic members 23, 33, and non-stretchable regions NS. Fig. 9 shows only the regions of the waist elastic members 23, 33 that exhibit stretchability. Therefore, in the waist regions 20, 30 in Fig. 9, the waist elastic members 23, 33 are not located in the widthwise center regions that overlap with the absorbent main body 10, forming non-stretchable regions NS. The non-stretchable regions NS are formed, for example, by cutting a portion of the waist elastic members 23, 33. The non-stretchable regions NS suppress widthwise contraction of the absorbent core 12, flattening it, thereby ensuring the absorption area of the absorbent core 12 and reducing discomfort when worn.

[0085] The plurality of fragrance-application regions 40 extending in the longitudinal direction and aligned in the width direction preferably overlap the non-elastic regions NS in the width direction. The plurality of fragrance-application regions 40 are preferably located closer to the center of the non-elastic regions NS in the longitudinal direction than the outer edges of the non-elastic regions NS (the positions of the waist elastic members 23c, 33c). In other words, when the diaper 1 is viewed in the thickness direction in its unfolded state, each of the plurality of fragrance-application regions 40 located in the waist portions 20, 30 preferably overlaps the non-elastic regions NS.

[0086] By doing so, the multiple (here, two) fragrance-application areas 40 are located in areas away from areas where the diaper 1 is likely to shrink and wrinkle due to the waist elastic members 23, 33. This allows the fragrance to easily volatilize and be released to the outside of the diaper 1. This allows the fragrance applied to the diaper 1 to act effectively. Furthermore, widthwise spacing between the multiple fragrance-application areas 40 is ensured, allowing the fragrance to be released over a wide range in the widthwise direction of the diaper 1.

[0087] In this embodiment, the entire fragrance-applied region 40 located in the waist region 20, 30 overlaps with the non-elastic region NS. However, the fragrance-applied region 40 overlaps in the width direction with the waist elastic members 23, 33 located above it. Therefore, in the waist region 20, 30 close to the nose of the wearer or the person changing the diaper 1, the waist elastic members 23, 33 appropriately narrow the widthwise spacing between the two fragrance-applied regions 40, making it easier for the wearer or the person changing the diaper to feel the fragrance.

[0088] 11 is a diagram showing modified examples of the fragrance-application area 40 and the non-jointed portion 50, and is a schematic plan view of the diaper 1 in an unfolded and stretched state. The fragrance-application area 40 preferably extends in the longitudinal or width direction of the diaper 1. In other words, the predetermined direction is preferably the longitudinal or width direction of the diaper 1. When the fragrance-application area 40 extends in the longitudinal direction, as in this embodiment, the fragrance-application area 40 can be arranged longer than when it extends in the width direction. Therefore, the fragrance is released over a wide area in the longitudinal direction of the diaper 1, and the fragrance effect is exerted.

[0089] Furthermore, when the fragrance-application region 40 extends in the longitudinal direction, it is preferable that the fragrance-application region 40 be positioned across the longitudinal centerline CL of the diaper 1 in the unfolded state. This allows the fragrance to be placed in the area corresponding to the wearer's crotch area. This allows the fragrance to be released around the wearer's exposed legs, effectively repelling insects.

[0090] 11A and 11B, when the fragrance-application region 40 extends in the width direction, the fragrance can be applied over a wide area in the width direction of the diaper 1. As a result, the fragrance is released over a wide area in the width direction of the diaper 1, and the effects of the fragrance are exerted.

[0091] When the fragrance-applied region 40 extends in the width direction, it may be positioned biased toward the ventral side in the longitudinal direction (more ventral than the center line CL in the longitudinal direction), as shown in Fig. 11A. In this case, the fragrance-applied region 40 is less likely to be crushed by the wearer's body when lying on their back. This makes it easier for the fragrance to volatilize and be released outside the diaper 1. Furthermore, since urine is more likely to be excreted toward the ventral side of the diaper 1, the fragrance will combine with the humid air, which will likely increase the persistence of the fragrance.

[0092] Alternatively, as shown in Figure 11B, the fragrance-application area 40 may be positioned toward the rear in the longitudinal direction (longitudinal rearward of the center line CL). Because the buttocks protrude at the rear, the diaper 1 tends to expand in the width direction without wrinkles. This makes it difficult for the fragrance to be trapped in the wrinkles of the diaper 1, making it easier for the fragrance to volatilize and be released to the outside of the diaper 1. However, this is not limited to the above, and the fragrance-application area 40 may be provided on both the rear and ventral sides longitudinally of the center line CL.

[0093] 4, the non-bonded portion 50 having a portion overlapping with the fragrance-application region 40 preferably extends in the longitudinal direction and has an opening 50o that opens at one end of the absorbent main body 10 in the longitudinal direction. In this embodiment, the opening 50o of the non-bonded portion 50 is formed at both the ventral end 10a and the dorsal end 10b of the absorbent main body 10. The non-bonded portion 50 is preferably continuous in the longitudinal direction from the portion overlapping with the fragrance-application region 40 to the opening 50o.

[0094] This allows the fragrance volatilized from the fragrance-application region 40 to diffuse into the non-bonded portion 50, which continues to the longitudinal opening 50o, without being blocked by the bonded portion 51. The fragrance is then released from the opening 50o to the outside of the absorbent main body 10, making it easier for the fragrance to be released to the outside of the diaper 1. This makes it easier for the user to sense the fragrance, and also enhances the fragrance's effect (insect repellent function).

[0095] FIG. 12 shows an example of a non-jointed portion 52 of the cover sheet 24. To avoid cluttering the drawing, FIG. 12 only shows the jointed portions 51 arranged side by side with the fragrance-application area 40 interposed therebetween. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 , the diaper 1 has cover sheets 24, 34 that cover the upper end of the absorbent main body 10 in the longitudinal direction from the skin side. In this embodiment, cover sheets 24, 34 are provided on both the ventral and dorsal sides. The cover sheets 24, 34 prevent the upper end edge of the absorbent main body 10 from digging into the wearer's skin and prevent the absorbent main body 10 from opening open. Note that the cover sheets 24, 34 in this embodiment are made of a separate material from the skin-side sheets 21, 31 and the non-skin-side sheets 22, 32. However, the upper end of the absorbent main body 10 may be covered by the folded-over portions of the skin-side sheets 21, 31 or the non-skin-side sheets 22, 32, and these folded-over portions may serve as cover sheets.

[0096] The cover sheets 24, 34 are joined to the skin side of the waistline portions 20, 30 and the skin side of the absorbent main body 10 with an adhesive such as a hot melt adhesive HMA. However, the joining method of the cover sheets 24, 34 may also be a joining method such as welding or pressure bonding. In the following description, the portions of the cover sheets 24, 34 joined to the waistline portions 20, 30 and the absorbent main body 10 are also referred to as second joined portions 53. The portions of the cover sheets 24, 34 not joined to the waistline portions 20, 30 and the absorbent main body 10 are also referred to as second non-joined portions 52.

[0097] When the non-bonded portion 50 overlapping the fragrance-application region 40 extends to one longitudinal end of the absorbent main body 10 and has an opening 50o, it is preferable that the following applies: When the diaper 1 in an unfolded state is viewed in the thickness direction, the opening 50o of the non-bonded portion 50 preferably has a portion overlapping with the second non-bonded portion 52. As shown in Fig. 12, the entire opening 50o may overlap with the second non-bonded portion 52, or a portion of the opening 50o may overlap with the second bonded portion 53 and the remaining portion may overlap with the second non-bonded portion 52.

[0098] As a result of the above, it is possible to prevent the entire opening 50o of the non-joined portion 50 from being blocked by the second joint portion 53 (the adhesive HMA that bonds the cover sheets 24, 34). This allows the fragrance to be released to the outside of the absorbent main body 10 from the portion of the opening 50o that overlaps with the second non-joined portion 52, and is also more likely to be released to the outside of the diaper 1. In addition, since the pressure exerted on the non-joined portion 50 by the cover sheets 24, 34 can be reduced, a space is more likely to be formed between the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14. This makes it easier for the fragrance to volatilize in the space between the two sheets (13, 14) and to remain in the space.

[0099] 12, a plurality of rectangular second bonding portions 53 are arranged at intervals in the width direction, but there are no particular limitations on the arrangement pattern of the second bonding portions 53. Furthermore, although the cover sheet 24 on the ventral side is illustrated in FIG. 12, it is preferable that the openings 50o of the non-bonding portions 50 on the dorsal side also have portions that overlap with the non-bonding portions of the cover sheet 34.

[0100] Furthermore, the diaper 1 may not have the cover sheets 24, 34. In this case, it is possible to eliminate the risk that the opening 50o of the non-jointed portion 50 will be blocked by the joint (adhesive) of the cover sheets 24, 34, or that the non-jointed portion 50 will be pressed down by the cover sheets 24, 34, preventing the formation of a space.

[0101] Fig. 13 is a diagram illustrating the positional relationship between the waist elastic members 23 and the non-joined portions 50. Fig. 14 is a diagram illustrating a modified example of the positional relationship between the waist elastic members 23 and the non-joined portions 50. To avoid cluttering the drawings, Figs. 13 and 14 only show the joined portions 51 that are arranged with the flavor-application region 40 sandwiched therebetween. Figs. 13 and 14 also show only the stretchable portions of the waist elastic members 23, 33.

[0102] As shown in Fig. 13, the non-joined portion 50 having a portion overlapping the flavor-applied region 40 may be perpendicular to the waist elastic member 23. In Fig. 13, the non-joined portion 50 overlapping the flavor-applied region 40 and extending in the longitudinal direction is perpendicular to the two waist elastic members 23c, 23d on the ventral side. Although not shown, the non-joined portion 50 may also be perpendicular to the waist elastic member 33 on the dorsal side.

[0103] As a result, the width of the non-jointed portion 50 is narrowed by the contractile force of the waist elastic members 23c, 23d. As a result, the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14 each bend outward in the thickness direction, as shown in Figure 6, and a space is easily formed between the two sheets (13, 14). This makes it easier for the fragrance to volatilize in that space, allowing the fragrance to be retained in the space.

[0104] In some tape-type diapers, a widthwise stretchable elastic member is provided in the waistband portion on the back side. The elastic member may be perpendicular to the non-joined portion 50. Furthermore, when the fragrance-application region 40 extends in the widthwise direction as shown in Fig. 11, the non-joined portion 50 sandwiching the fragrance-application region 40 may be perpendicular to a longitudinally stretchable leg-hole elastic member (not shown). In these cases, the non-joined portion 50 may contract, easily forming a space between the two sheets (13, 14).

[0105] However, the present invention is not limited to the above, and as shown in a modified example in Fig. 14, the non-joined portion 50 having a portion overlapping the flavor-applied region 40 does not have to be perpendicular to the waist elastic member 23. Furthermore, when the non-joined portion 50 overlapping the flavor-applied region 40 extends to one end of the absorbent main body 10 in the longitudinal direction and has an opening 50o, the following is preferable. First, the longitudinal distance between the opening 50o of the non-joined portion 50 and the waist elastic member 23e closest to the opening 50o on the longitudinal outer side (one side, here the ventral side) of the opening 50o is defined as a first distance D1. Furthermore, the average value of the distances between adjacent waist elastic members 23 in the longitudinal direction in the ventral waist portion 20 is defined as an average distance Dave. In this case, it is preferable that the first distance D1 is larger than the average distance Dave (D1 > Dave).

[0106] The waist elastic members 23 ensure that the ventral waist portion 20 fits closely to the wearer. Therefore, it is preferable that the waist elastic members 23e are positioned above and away from the openings 50o of the non-joined portions 50, more specifically, at positions farther away than the average spacing Dave of the waist elastic members 23. This makes it difficult for the ventral waist portion 20 to fit closely to the wearer near the openings 50o of the non-joined portions 50, thereby preventing the openings 50o from being crushed between the wearer and the ventral waist portion 20. This allows the fragrance to be released from the openings 50o to the outside of the absorbent main body 10 and to the outside of the diaper 1. Note that while FIG. 14 illustrates the openings 50o on the ventral side, waist elastic members 33 may also be positioned above and away from the openings 50o on the back side.

[0107] As shown in FIG. 9 , the diaper 1 also has a printed portion 60 visible from the non-skin-facing side. For example, the printed portion 60 can be printed on the leak-proof sheet 13 or the outer cover sheet 14, making the printed portion 60 visible from outside the diaper 1. Examples of the printed portion 60 include patterns, pictures, symbols, and letters, but the type, number, and placement of the printed portion 60 are not particularly limited. In FIG. 9 , the diaper 1 includes a printed portion 60A with a star or diamond design, a printed portion 60B with letters indicating the size of the diaper 1 ("M") and the back side ("BACK"), and a printed portion 60C with an illustration (lemongrass) and letters ("ANTIMOS") indicating that the diaper 1 contains a component (fragrance) that exhibits insect repellent properties. By visually recognizing the printed portion 60C, a user can recognize that the diaper 1 exhibits insect repellent properties when and while wearing the diaper 1.

[0108] When the diaper 1 is viewed in the thickness direction in its unfolded state, it is preferable that the fragrance-applied area 40 does not overlap the printed area 60 in the central region 1C, which is obtained by dividing the diaper 1 into three longitudinal sections. This prevents the ink in the printed area 60 from interfering with the evaporation and release of the fragrance to the outside. The central region 1C corresponds to the wearer's crotch area. By ensuring that the fragrance in this area is thoroughly evaporated and released, the insect repellent effect is effectively achieved around the wearer's legs.

[0109] Preferably, the fragrance-applied area 40 and the printed area 60 do not overlap in the absorbent body 10 below the waistband areas 20, 30 (side joint areas 2). More preferably, the fragrance-applied area 40 and the printed area 60 do not overlap throughout the entire diaper 1. This prevents the ink from interfering with the evaporation and release of a larger amount of fragrance.

[0110] 5B , the fragrance application area 40 and the joints 51 (adhesive HMA) extend in the longitudinal direction, with the fragrance application area 40 located between a plurality of joints 51 arranged in the width direction. The widthwise spacing W1 between adjacent joints 51 sandwiching the fragrance application area 40 therebetween is preferably wider than the widthwise spacings W2 and W3 between adjacent joints 51 without sandwiching the fragrance application area 40 therebetween (W1 > W2, W3). The widthwise spacing of the joints 51 is defined as the spacing between the inner ends of adjacent joints 51.

[0111] As a result, the widthwise distance W1 of the non-jointed portion 50, which has a portion overlapping with the fragrance-applied region 40, is increased. In other words, the width of the space between the two sheets (13, 14) is increased. This makes it easier for the fragrance to volatilize in the wider space and for the fragrance to remain in the wider space.

[0112] 5B , the fragrance-application area 40 and the joint 51 (adhesive HMA) extend linearly in the longitudinal direction, and the maximum width of the fragrance-application area 40 in the width direction (the direction perpendicular to the predetermined direction) is smaller than the maximum width of the joint 51. Therefore, when a predetermined amount of fragrance is applied to the diaper 1, the fragrance can be applied thickly, and the basis weight of the fragrance-application area 40 can be increased. This improves the persistence of the fragrance. However, this is not a limitation, and the maximum width of the fragrance-application area 40 and the maximum width of the joint 51 may be equal.

[0113] 8B, the maximum width W4 of the fragrance-application area 40 may be greater than the maximum width W5 of the joint 51 (W4>W5). This ensures the width of the fragrance-application area 40, allowing the fragrance to evaporate more easily. This allows the user to more easily experience the fragrance.

[0114] When the fragrance is applied in liquid form, it penetrates and diffuses into the outer sheet 14 (nonwoven fabric) more easily than a highly viscous adhesive (HMA). Therefore, even if the maximum width of the fragrance-applied area 40 is smaller than the maximum width of the joint 51 during the manufacturing process of the diaper 1, the maximum width of the fragrance-applied area 40 may be larger than the maximum width of the joint 51 in the manufactured diaper 1. In either case, the maximum widths of the fragrance-applied area 40 and the joint 51 in the manufactured diaper 1 are compared.

[0115] Second Embodiment (Method for Manufacturing Diaper 1) The basic configuration of the diaper 1 is the same as that of the first embodiment, and therefore will not be described further. The method for manufacturing the diaper 1 of the second embodiment includes the steps of applying a fragrance to the skin-side surface of the outer sheet 14 (non-skin-side sheet) to form a fragrance-applied region 40 (see FIG. 5B above), and applying adhesive to the skin-side surface of the outer sheet 14 so that, when the diaper 1 is laid out in the thickness direction, the fragrance-applied region 40 overlaps with a non-jointed portion 50 where the leak-barrier sheet 13 and the outer sheet 14 are not joined (see FIG. 5A).

[0116] The diaper 1 manufactured by the above-described manufacturing method can provide the fragrance-application region 40 closer to the skin than the leak-barrier sheet 13. This allows the fragrance to be positioned further outward from the diaper 1, facilitating its release to the outside of the diaper 1 and making it easier for the user to sense the fragrance. Furthermore, a portion or all of the fragrance-application region 40 is located in the non-joined portion 50. This facilitates evaporation of the fragrance into the space between the two sheets (13, 14) formed in the non-joined portion 50. This allows the fragrance applied to the diaper 1 to be effectively utilized. Furthermore, since the fragrance can remain in the space, the fragrance's durability can be increased. This allows the fragrance's effects to be fully utilized during use of the diaper 1. Furthermore, when the outer sheet 14 is made of a nonwoven fabric or the like, applying the fragrance to the outer sheet 14 rather than to the leak-barrier sheet 13, which is a liquid-impermeable film or the like, facilitates the fragrance's fixation (penetration) into the material (outer sheet 14).

[0117] Preferably, the fragrance is applied to the outer sheet 14 in a long line in a predetermined direction so that the fragrance-applied area 40 extends linearly in the predetermined direction. This allows the fragrance to be applied over a wide area in the predetermined direction of the diaper 1, thereby exerting its effects. Furthermore, when a predetermined amount of fragrance is applied to the diaper 1, the fragrance can be applied thickly and the basis weight of the fragrance can be increased, thereby improving the persistence of the fragrance. Examples of methods for applying a liquid fragrance in a long line in a predetermined direction include an application method using a coater (contact nozzle) and a method of applying the fragrance using printing technology such as letterpress printing.

[0118] However, in the above-described manufacturing method of the diaper 1, the fragrance does not have to be applied so as to extend linearly in a predetermined direction. Therefore, the fragrance-applied area 40 of the diaper 1 manufactured by the above-described manufacturing method may have various shapes, or the fragrance may be applied in a planar manner to the outer sheet 14. When the fragrance is not applied linearly, the fragrance may be applied to the outer sheet 14 by a spraying method.

[0119] Furthermore, it is preferable to perform the step of forming the fragrance-application area 40 (FIG. 5B) after the step of applying adhesive to the exterior sheet 14 (FIG. 5A). By doing so, even when fragrance and adhesive are applied to the same surface of the exterior sheet 14, the fragrance can be prevented from being removed by, for example, the nozzle that applies the adhesive when the adhesive is applied. This allows the fragrance to be reliably fixed to the exterior sheet 14.

[0120] The above-described embodiments are intended to facilitate understanding of the present invention and are not intended to limit the present invention. The present invention may be modified or improved without departing from the spirit thereof, and it goes without saying that the present invention includes equivalents thereof.
