In one embodiment, the present disclosure is developed and validated a business analytics (BA) maturity framework is designed specifically for Indian enterprises. The system and method is developed for but not limited to Indian enterprises. In one embodiment, there are five factors in BA maturity (354) framework. Each factor has a plurality of variables. The five factors are leadership (332), information technology (334), human capital (336), organisation (338), and analytics catalyst (340).
[0047] In one embodiment, the leadership factor (332) includes vision variable (302), strategy variable (304), management variable (306), and a business case (308). In one embodiment, the vision variable (302) includes a top-down approach for triggering BA in an organisation. This approach implies adoption of BA systems and a data-driven decision-making within the different business units and functions, throughout the organisation. Support from top management and leadership implies promotion of enhanced use of BA technology and does not just rely on the reporting and visualisation of existing technology. In one embodiment, firms that have a clear and well-defined analytics strategy (304) and a road map have higher business analytics capability levels compared to organisations that have a tactical approach to the competency. In one embodiment, the management variable (306) is needed in the top-down leadership and executive support that needed to drive an analytics agenda within an organisation are critical to the BA capability levels of a firm. The ability and support from the top management as well as senior managers is crucial for infusing the passion for business analytics within an organisation. In one embodiment, the business case variable (308) activates business applications and actionable insights from analyses. The main focus is on improving performance. BA provides decision-making answers. These solutions provide important analysis and pointers that facilitate decisions thereby fuelling profit growth. Further, considering Return-on-Investment (ROI) when employing data analytics, the ROI is the most critical component. The ROI provides decision support on the measure of analytics needed for a given problem. The ROI-driven data analytics provides simple and useful pointers while also bearing in mind the cost and value of the analyses thereby ensuring empirical data is not over-examined.
[0048] In one embodiment, the information technology factor (334) includes data variable (310), systems variable (312), and a policy variable (314). In one embodiment, the data variable (310) enables a technology defined as an ecosystem that allows for the storage and processing of data inputs using multiple hardware and software processes, such as extract, transform and load (ETL) and governance capabilities, either internally or through partner systems. A data management is an important aspect of BA, since effective integration and quality data management are vital for its success. User data may be extracted from the operating systems and must be effectively transformed to meet the organisational needs for data and information. Data management includes the extraction of data from both internal and external sources, including internal business functions and external third-party sources. Data warehousing, such that the integration of existing data with the new data is well- integrated and stored in the central repository. In one embodiment, the system variable (312) includes a clear information agenda that may enable business analytics initiatives to drive the necessary outcomes. The business analytics systems should not be considered in isolation or as an independent capability but should be made an integrated and inter-woven aspect of the information systems of the organisation so that their use is facilitated. Big data and analytics information agendas are visions and road maps that can align IT with analytics and business needs. The IT agenda spans information governance policies and tools and data architecture. In one embodiment, the policy factor (314) is the functionality provided by the technology ecosystem that allows the organisation to access, manage, and analyse data effectively and efficiently.
[0049] In one embodiment, the human capital (336) factor includes talent (316) variable, skills (318) variable and training (320) variable. The talent variable (316) is a critical driver in building a competitive advantage and helping organisations innovate with analytics. Talent capability refers to the competence to deliver business analytics in a big data environment. Talent capability for business analytics is a combination of technical skills, technology understanding, business knowledge, and domain know-how. As data becomes more available, the ability to analyse and drive insights from data is becoming more critical. This requires skills (318) factors such a human skills and expertise that are extremely dynamic and ever-increasing. Human skills in the business analytics domain include technological skills, business skills, and management skills. These skills also emphasise the importance of being able to translate and communicate insights and values to the executives in an organisation. The BA initiatives are highly knowledge-intensive, and thus, need a variety of skills, including technical, business, entrepreneurial, and managerial skills. The BA is dynamic and requires talent to continuously update their skills to stay relevant to the business needs. Additionally, BA being technical, resources need to have the ability to understand the domain requirements on an ongoing basis to deliver outcomes for their stake holders and need training (320) to update the skills.
[0050] In one embodiment, the organization (338) factor includes a governance variable (322), a culture (324) variable, and a structure (326) variable. In one embodiment, many organisations suffer from poor prioritisation, execution, and alignment practices and hence end up with a backlog of analytics projects. Therefore, the organisation needs to ensure that the resources are utilised in a way that aligns with organisational priorities. Hence, there is a need to have effective business analytics project governance (322) variable that aligns analytics programmes with business requirements. The governance (322) variable is a way to manage the use of the business analytics resources in the enterprise, as well as assigning the rights for decision-making, so that alignment between the business analytics and organisational objectives becomes possible. In one embodiment, the organisations are defined as social units of people and systems that are structured and managed to meet a need or to pursue collective goals. There are multiple structure variables (326) that may support business analytics. A centre of excellence is one of the most prominent ones in many organizations. The centre of excellence (COE) is a centralized analytics unit that enables efficient sharing of analytic resources. The central unit is based on accessible competences pre-existing in various internal verticals of organizations, across divisions and diverse segments of business. A prime role of Firms should be to consider establishing a COE that would consistently work towards establishing reliable enterprise strategy and standards around various elements such as IP ownership, tools, languages, regulatory issue, and the like. The culture variable (324) is defined as the tacit and explicit norms, values, behaviours, and patterns that are developed over time within an organisation, and are used for systematically collecting, assessing, and disseminating data. Organisational culture is also a vital indicator since it makes the organisational resources, including people, receptive to change, which is a key ingredient of BA. An analytics organisation (department) is an ecosystem that is enabled by deep functional expertise and that provides access to data, tools and technology and fosters talent development to deliver business outcomes. It has the responsibility to govern and encourage an analytics culture across the company. Also, organisation factor contributes positively to Business Analytics capabilities that in turn deliver positive business performance.
[0051] In one embodiment, the analytics catalyst (340) factor includes use cases (328), advocacy (330), and translators (352). In one embodiment, the use cases (328) are vital resources for businesses for better pathways for applications and methods. In one embodiment, companies may need to evaluate best practices internally and also across partners from a wide cross section of industries to solve industry and domain focused challenges. The companies may need to build their capabilities to extract out of the box ideas across functions and transverse communities. It may be imperative to use originality for determining emerging technologies and build archetypes to solve these problems or address these opportunities. This may help enterprises to speedily raise the level of solutions and customize the same for the Indian milieu. Sharing capabilities and abilities with the exchange of knowledge may chart the path ahead. In one embodiment, the business analytics is often challenging, an art and a science. Success is possible by practicing advocacy (330), and consistently fostering a positive acceptance of change. There is immense benefit in accepting the magnitude of propagating the value of analytics. By focusing on the value of analytics and communicating the same, it is possible to create a compelling motive for change. The differentiating factor in the market for organizations lies in the manner of transformation that BA teams achieve. These enterprises exude achievement and are feted with recognition and value. In one embodiment, companies are aware of the fact that to achieve success in analytics needs more than merely hiring data scientists. A curious mix of data architects, visualization pros, and data engineers is the need of the day and thrown into the mix one realizes the need for data & analytics translators (352). These translators are that ones that propel organizations to achieve real growth. They combine technical expertise with business or domain knowledge and act as a common denominator between analytics and business.
[0052] In one embodiment, all the above factors are implemented to analytics maturity (342) framework. The effective outcome of building business analytics capability in Indian enterprises is likely to be in three key benefit areas. The benefits of analytics maturity (350) includes three areas. The first area is a financial (334) area which includes profitability, cash flow management and risk mitigation. The second area includes operating area (344) or shared services. The operating (336) area includes supply-chain optimisation, human-resource effectiveness, improving IT effectiveness and efficiency and mitigating cyber- security challenges. The third area includes customer and sales (348) marketing and customer management focused on acquiring and retaining customers, improving customer experience, marketing ROI optimisation and product-portfolio management.
