AI Technical Summary
The existing multicast and broadcast service (MBS) for non-terrestrial networks (NTN) lacks completeness and requires enhancement to accurately define service areas within the broader NTN coverage.
A terminal device receives a configuration from a network device containing service limitation information to determine if it is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service, using criteria such as PLMN lists, MCC lists, reference locations, tracking areas, and geographical areas to adjust and enhance the MBS broadcast service area.
This approach allows for precise control and enhancement of MBS broadcast service areas within NTN, ensuring that terminal devices receive services only within authorized geographical limits, thereby optimizing service delivery and coverage.

[0028] In some cases, an intended broadcast service area may be smaller than NTN coverage. For example, two countries may be in NTN coverage, but a MBS broadcast service may be expected to be provided for only one country. Thus, MBS broadcast service may need to be enhanced to provide an accurate service area within NTN coverage.
[0029] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of communication for a MBS broadcast service. In the solution, a terminal device may receive a configuration comprising information of a service limitation of a MBS broadcast service from a network device. Based on the information of the service limitation, the terminal device may determine whether the terminal device is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. If the terminal device is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service, the terminal device may receive the MBS broadcast service. In this way, service area of a MBS broadcast service may be adjusted and a MBS broadcast service may be enhanced.
[0030] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.
[0031] EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK
[0032] Fig. 1 shows an example communication network 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The communication network 100 includes a terminal device 110 and a network device 120 serving the terminal device 110. Additionally, one or more communication links such as inter-satellite links (ISL) may be established between the network device 120 and another network device (not shown) .
[0033] The communications in the communication network 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, long term evolution (LTE) , LTE-evolution, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) , code division multiple access (CDMA) and global system for mobile communications (GSM) and the like. Furthermore, the communications may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) , 5.5G, 5G-advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) communication protocols.
[0034] It is to be understood that the numbers and their connections of network devices and terminal devices are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. Although not shown, it is to be understood that one or more additional network devices may be comprised in the communication network 100, such as, a terrestrial station, a gateway and so on. It is also to be understood that although a NTN is shown, the present solution may also be applied to a TN, and the present disclosure does not limit this aspect.
[0035] In some scenarios, the network device 120 may provide a MBS broadcast service in coverage 121 of the network device 120. However, an intended service area 122 of the MBS broadcast service may be smaller than the coverage 121.
[0036] Thus, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of communication so as to provide a service limitation for a MBS broadcast service and thus enhance a MBS broadcast service, especially for NTN. Detailed description will be given in connection with FIG. 2 below.
[0037] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF LIMITATION OF MBS BROADCAST SERVICE
[0038] FIG. 2 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 200 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. For example, the order of the steps may be changed. Some of the steps may be omitted or any other suitable additional steps may be added.
[0039] As shown in FIG. 2, the network device 120 may transmit 210 a configuration comprising information of a service limitation of a MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the configuration via system information. It is to be understood that any other suitable ways are also feasible.
[0040] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may be associated with a MBS broadcast configuration. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the information of the service limitation in the MBS broadcast configuration within a multicast control channel (MCCH) .
[0041] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may be associated with a MBS session. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the information of the service limitation in a MBS broadcast configuration for the MBS session. In other words, the information of the service limitation may be configured per session (i.e., within MBS session information in the MBS broadcast configuration) .
[0042] With reference to FIG. 2, based on the information of the service limitation, the terminal device 110 may determine 220 whether the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. For illustration, some example embodiments for the service limitation will be described in connection with Embodiments 1 to 4 below.
[0043] Embodiment 1
[0044] In this embodiment, a list of public land mobile networks (PLMNs) or mobile country codes (MCCs) may be introduced to restrict a service area of a MBS broadcast service.
[0045] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a list of PLMNs (for convenience, also referred to as a first list of PLMNs herein) for which the MBS broadcast service is allowed. In some embodiments, if a PLMN of the terminal device 110 matches a PLMN in the first list of PLMNs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive a set of PLMNs broadcasted in system information of the network device 120, and select the PLMN of the terminal device 110 that matches identity information (e.g., subscriber identity module (SIM) card) of the terminal device 110.
[0046] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a list of PLMNs (for convenience, also referred to as a second list of PLMNs herein) for which the MBS broadcast service is barred (i.e., not allowed) . In some embodiments, if the PLMN of the terminal device 110 matches a PLMN in the second list of PLMNs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0047] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a list of MCCs (for convenience, also referred to as a first list of MCCs herein) for which the MBS broadcast service is allowed. In some embodiments, if a MCC of the terminal device 110 matches a MCC in the first list of MCCs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive a set of MCCs broadcasted in system information of the network device 120, and select the MCC of the terminal device 110 that matches identity information (e.g., SIM card) of the terminal device 110.
[0048] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a list of MCCs (for convenience, also referred to as a second list of MCCs herein) for which the MBS broadcast service is barred (i.e., not allowed) . In some embodiments, if the MCC of the terminal device 110 matches a MCC in the second list of MCCs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0049] It is to be understood that the above lists may be used separately or in any suitable combinations.
[0050] For illustration, an example MBS broadcast configuration may be described as below.
[0051] In this example, an information element (IE) ‘MBSBroadcastConfiguration-r17-IEs’ denotes a MBS broadcast configuration. An IE ‘allowedPLMNList’ provides a list of allowed PLMNs. If the list of allowed PLMNs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected PLMN of a camped cell to match one of the list of allowed PLMNs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one PLMN in the list match the selected PLMN of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0052] An IE ‘allowedMCCList’ provides a list of allowed MCCs. If the list of allowed MCCs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected MCC of a camped cell to match one of the list of allowed MCCs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one MCC in the list match the selected MCC of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0053] An IE ‘barredPLMNList’ provides a list of barred PLMNs. If the list of barred PLMNs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected PLMN of a camped cell to match one of the list of barred PLMNs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one PLMN in the list match the selected PLMN of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0054] An IE ‘barredMCCList’ provides a list of barred MCCs. If the list of barred MCCs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected MCC of a camped cell to match one of the list of barred MCCs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one MCC in the list match the selected MCC of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0055] For illustration, an example MBS broadcast configuration for a MBS session may be described as below.
[0056] In this example, an IE ‘MBS-SessionInfo-r17’ denotes information of a MBS session. An IE ‘allowedPLMNList’ provides a list of allowed PLMNs for the MBS session. If the list of allowed PLMNs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected PLMN of a camped cell to match one of the list of allowed PLMNs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one PLMN in the list match the selected PLMN of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session.
[0057] An IE ‘allowedMCCList’ provides a list of allowed MCCs for the MBS session. If the list of allowed MCCs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected MCC of a camped cell to match one of the list of allowed MCCs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one MCC in the list match the selected MCC of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session.
[0058] An IE ‘barredPLMNList’ provides a list of barred PLMNs for the MBS session. If the list of barred PLMNs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected PLMN of a camped cell to match one of the list of barred PLMNs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one PLMN in the list match the selected PLMN of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session.
[0059] An IE ‘barredMCCList’ provides a list of barred MCCs for the MBS session. If the list of barred MCCs presents, the terminal device 110 needs to use a selected MCC of a camped cell to match one of the list of barred MCCs. If matched, the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive a MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session, e.g., in a NTN cell. Otherwise (i.e., there is no one MCC in the list match the selected MCC of terminal device 110) , the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service associated with the MBS session.
[0060] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.
[0061] Upon the reception of broadcast configuration, the UE shall:
[0062] 1> if the UE interested to receive MBS broadcast service (s) is camping on a NTN Cell and the cell is providing MBS broadcast configuration and service:
[0063] 2> if the allowedPLMNList (or allowedMCCList) is provided within MBS broadcast configuration (e.g., MBSBroadcastConfiguration, MBS-SessionInfo) :
[0064] 3> if the selected PLMN (or MCC) matches one of PLMNs (or MCCs) within allowedPLMNList (or allowedMCCList) :
[0065] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0066] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0067] 3> else (i.e., not matched) :
[0068] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0069] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0070] 2> if the barredPLMNList (or barredMCCList) is provide within MBS broadcast configuration (e.g., MBSBroadcastConfiguration, MBS-SessionInfo) :
[0071] 3> if the selected PLMN (or MCC) matches one of PLMNs (or MCCs) within barredPLMNList (or barredMCCList) :
[0072] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this cell;
[0073] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this cell;
[0074] 3> else (i.e., not matched) :
[0075] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this cell;
[0076] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell.
[0077] In this way, PLMN / MCC may be used to restrict a broadcast service area, e.g., in a NTN cell.
[0078] Embodiment 2
[0079] In this embodiment, a reference location may be introduced to restrict a service area of a MBS broadcast service.
[0080] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate at least one of a reference location or a threshold for a distance between the reference location and a location of the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the reference location may be a location or position or coordinates that is used to derive a distance between the reference location and the location of the terminal device 110.
[0081] In some embodiments, the reference location may be a center of a serving cell or any other suitable positions. It is to be understood that the reference location may be provided in any other suitable ways and the present disclosure does not limit this aspect.
[0082] In some embodiments, the location of the terminal device 110 may be derived by global navigation satellite system (GNSS) . In some embodiments, the location of the terminal device 110 may be derived by new radio (NR) positioning. It is to be understood that any other suitable positioning methods are also feasible.
[0083] In some embodiments, if the distance is lower than the threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the distance is higher than the threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the distance is equal to the threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the distance is equal to the threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0084] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.
[0085] Upon the reception of broadcast configuration, the UE shall:
[0086] 1> if the UE interested to receive MBS broadcast service (s) is camping on a NTN Cell and the cell is providing MBS broadcast configuration and service:
[0087] 2> if the referenceLocation_Bcast and distanceThreshold_Bcast are configured in MBS broadcast configuration:
[0088] 3> if the distance between UE location and referenceLocation_Bcast is lower than (or equal to) the distanceThreshold_Bcast:
[0089] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0090] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0091] 3> else (if the distance between UE location and referenceLocation_Bcast is not lower than the distanceThreshold_Bcast) :
[0092] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this cell;
[0093] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this cell.
[0094] In this example, an IE ‘referenceLocation_Bcast’ denotes the reference location, and an IE ‘distanceThreshold_Bcast’ denotes the threshold for the distance between the reference location and the location of the terminal device.
[0095] In this way, a reference location may be used to restrict a broadcast service area, e.g., in a NTN cell.
[0096] Embodiment 3
[0097] In this embodiment, a metric indicating a fixed geographical area may be introduced to notify an area range in which a MBS broadcast service is provided. The terminal device 110 may be only allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service when the terminal device 110 stays in the fixed geographical area.
[0098] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a set of tracking areas (TAs) in which the MBS broadcast service is provided. In some embodiments, a list of TAs for NTN may be indicated, and each TA in the list of TAs may correspond to a fixed geographical area. When the list of TAs is provided within a MBS broadcast configuration over a NTN cell, it means the MBS broadcast service is allowed to be received when a tracking area code (TAC) of the cell that the terminal device 110 is staying matches one of a configured list of TAs.
[0099] In some embodiments, if a TAC of a serving cell of the terminal device 110 matches a TA in the set of TAs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the TAC of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 mismatch a TA (i.e., does not match any TA) in the set of TAs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may identify the TAC of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 from system information of the network device 120. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may acquire the TAC of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 via a non-access stratum (NAS) signaling.
[0100] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a set of radio access network notification areas (RNAs) in which the MBS broadcast service is provided. In some embodiments, a list of RNAs including information about PLMN and cell identity (ID) may be provided and each RNA in the list of RNAs may correspond to a fixed geographical area. When RNA information is provided within a MBS broadcast configuration over a NTN cell, it means the MBS broadcast service is allowed to be received when the cell that the terminal device 110 is staying matches one of a configured list of RNAs.
[0101] In some embodiments, if RNA information of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 matches a RNA in the set of RNAs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the RNA information of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 mismatch a RNA (i.e., does not match any RNA) in the set of RNAs, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the RNA information may comprise a cell ID. In some embodiments, the RAN information may comprise an area code. It is to be understood that any other suitable RNA information may also be feasible.
[0102] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a set of mapped cells for NTN in which the MBS broadcast service is provided. In some embodiments, the set of mapped cells may comprise a list of mapped cell IDs, e.g., NTN cell IDs. Each mapped cell or each mapped cell ID may correspond to a fixed geographical area. In some embodiments, a mapping between mapped cell IDs and geographical areas may be configured in a radio access network (RAN) and core network (CN) . In some embodiments, a specific geographical location may be mapped to one or multiple mapped cell IDs. When the one or multiple mapped cell IDs is provided within a MBS broadcast configuration over a NTN cell, it means the MBS broadcast service is allowed to be received when the cell that the terminal device 110 is staying belongs to a configured list of mapped cell IDs.
[0103] In some embodiments, if a cell ID of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 matches a mapped cell in the set of mapped cells, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the cell ID of the serving cell of the terminal device 110 mismatches a mapped cell (i.e., does not match any mapped cell) in the set of mapped cells, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0104] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation may indicate a location range in which the MBS broadcast service is provided. In other words, service area location or coordinate range may be provided to indicate where the MBS broadcast service is provided. When the location or coordinate range is provided within a MBS broadcast configuration over a NTN cell, it means the MBS broadcast service is allowed to be received when the location of the terminal device 110 is within the location or coordinate range.
[0105] In some embodiments, if a location of the terminal device 110 is within the location range, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, if the location of the terminal device 110 is out of the location range, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0106] In some embodiments, the location of the terminal device 110 may be derived by GNSS. In some embodiments, the location of the terminal device 110 may be derived by NR positioning. It is to be understood that any other suitable positioning methods are also feasible.
[0107] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.
[0108] Upon the reception of broadcast configuration, the UE shall:
[0109] 1> if the UE interested to receive MBS broadcast service (s) is camping on a NTN Cell and the cell is providing MBS broadcast configuration and service:
[0110] 2> if the tracking area (TA) information is configured in MBS broadcast configuration:
[0111] 3> if the TrackingAreaCode of the serving cell that the UE is staying belongs to the configured one of tracking area information:
[0112] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0113] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0114] 3> else (i.e., TAC not belong to configured tracking area information) :
[0115] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0116] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0117] 2> if the RAN notification area (RNA) information is configured in MBS broadcast configuration:
[0118] 3> if the Cell identity / PLMN that the UE is staying belongs to the configured RNA info:
[0119] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0120] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0121] 3> else (i.e., Cell identity / PLMN not belong to configured RNA information) :
[0122] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0123] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0124] 2> if the mapped Cell ID is configured in MBS broadcast configuration:
[0125] 3> if the Cell identity that the UE is staying belongs to the mapped Cell ID:
[0126] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0127] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0128] 3> else (i.e., Cell identity not belong to configured mapped Cell ID) :
[0129] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0130] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0131] 2> if the service area location / coordinate range is configured in MBS broadcast configuration:
[0132] 3> if the UE location info (derived by GNSS or NR positioning) is within the service area location / coordinate range:
[0133] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0134] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0135] 3> else (the UE location is not within the range) :
[0136] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0137] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell.
[0138] In this way, fixed geographical area may be used to restrict a broadcast service area, e.g., in a NTN cell.
[0139] Embodiment 4
[0140] In some embodiments, the information of the service limitation indicates a set of IDs for an area of the MBS broadcast service. In other words, an ID (for convenience, also referred to as a broadcast service area ID herein) corresponding to a geographical area is introduced.
[0141] In some embodiments, the broadcast service area ID may be mapped to a specific geographical area based on network implementation. In some embodiments, the broadcast service area ID may be mapped to a specific geographical area based on UE assistance information, e.g., UE location information.
[0142] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, an indication of an ID (for convenience, also referred to as a first ID herein) for the area of the MBS broadcast service. In other words, the network device 120 may provide the broadcast service area ID to the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may provide the broadcast service area ID to the terminal device 110 via a NAS signaling, e.g., during a registration procedure. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may provide the broadcast service area ID to the terminal device 110 via a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, e.g., a RRCReconfiguration message or RRCRelease message. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may store the received broadcast service area ID.
[0143] In some embodiments, if the broadcast service area ID (i.e., the first ID) provided to the terminal device 110 matches an ID in the set of IDs in the MBS broadcast configuration, the terminal device 110 may determine that the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service based on the matched ID. Otherwise (i.e., there is no matched broadcast service area ID) , the terminal device 110 is not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service.
[0144] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.
[0145] During the registration, RRCReconfiguration, RRCRelease procedure, the UE shall:
[0146] 1> if the broadcast service area ID is included:
[0147] 2> store the broadcast service area ID.
[0148] For illustration, another example procedure may be described as below.
[0149] Upon the reception of broadcast configuration, the UE shall:
[0150] 1> if the UE interested to receive MBS broadcast service (s) is camping on a NTN Cell and the cell is providing MBS broadcast configuration and service:
[0151] 2> if the broadcast service area ID is configured in MBS broadcast configuration:
[0152] 3> if the broadcast service area ID provided to the UE belongs to the configured one of the broadcast service area ID:
[0153] 4> apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0154] 4> start to receive MBS broadcast service based on the configuration in this cell;
[0155] 3> else (i.e., the provided broadcast service area ID not belong to configured one of the broadcast service area ID) :
[0156] 4> not apply the MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell;
[0157] 4> not receive MBS broadcast configuration in this Cell.
[0158] In this way, a new parameter may be used to restrict a broadcast service area, e.g., in a NTN cell.
[0159] So far, the determination of whether the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service is described. Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, if the terminal device 110 is allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service, the terminal device 110 may receive 230 the MBS broadcast service.
[0160] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, if system information is changed due to re-configuration of the above information of the service limitation, the network device 120 may skip 240 transmitting a short message to notify the change of the system information. That is, the short message will not be used to notify the change of the system information in this case.
[0161] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may check 250 an update of the above information of the service limitation of the MBS broadcast service periodically without a short message notification mechanism. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may check the update of the information of the service limitation based on a timer. In some embodiments, a value of the timer may be configured or predefined. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may check the update of the information of the service limitation based on UE implementation.
[0162] For illustration, another example procedure may be described as below.
[0163] Upon the reception of broadcast configuration, the UE shall:
[0164] 1> if the UE is camping on a NTN Cell and receiving the broadcast service (s) :
[0165] 2> check the NTN broadcast related parameters (e.g., allowedPLMNList, referenceLocation_Bcast, etc) update periodically based on configured / predefined periodical timer; or
[0166] 2> check the NTN broadcast related parameters (e.g., allowedPLMNList, referenceLocation_Bcast, etc) update periodically based on UE implementation. NOTE: the short message notification is not applicable to the NTN broadcast related parameters update.
[0167] In this example, the term ‘NTN broadcast related parameters’ refers to the above information of the service limitation of the MBS broadcast service.
[0168] In some scenarios, a terminal device is camping in a cell (e.g., NTN cell) and this cell is providing a MBS broadcast service. However, the terminal device cannot receive the MBS broadcast service due to out of the coverage of the MBS broadcast service or not allowed to receive the MBS broadcast service. In this case, the broadcast service area may also need to be adjusted.
[0169] With reference to FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may transmit 260 a request for receiving the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit the request via a MBS interest indication (MII) . It is to be understood that any other suitable ways of transmitting the request may also be feasible.
[0170] As shown in FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit 261 system information comprising an indication enabling the request. That is, a flag may be introduced in the system information to control whether the terminal device 110 is allowed to transmit the request. Based on the indication enabling the request, the terminal device 110 may transmit 262 the request for receiving the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit the request for receiving the MBS broadcast service without the indication enabling the request.
[0171] In some embodiments, the request may comprise a list of preferred broadcast services, e.g., a list of temporary mobile group identities (TMGIs) .
[0172] In some embodiments, the request may comprise a used PLMN, e.g., a currently used PLMN. In some embodiments, the request may comprise a used MCC, e.g., a currently used MCC. In some embodiments, the request may comprise information of a location of the terminal device 110, e.g., current location information. In some embodiments, the request may comprise a stored ID for the MBS broadcast service, i.e., a currently stored broadcast service area ID.
[0173] In some embodiments, the request may comprise a preference on the information of the service limitation of the MBS broadcast service. In some embodiments, the request may comprise a preference on the first list of PLMNs (i.e., allowedPLMNList) , the second list of PLMNs (i.e., barredPLMNList) , the first list of MCCs (i.e., allowedMCCList) or the second list of MCCs (i.e., barredMCCList) . In some embodiments, the request may comprise a preference on the reference location (i.e., referenceLocation_Bcast) or the threshold (i.e., distanceThreshold_Bcast) . In some embodiments, the request may comprise a preference on the TA list, RNA information, a mapped cell ID, a service area location / coordinate range, or a broadcast service area ID. It is to be understood that any combination of the above information may also be comprised in the request.
[0174] For illustration, another example procedure may be described as below.
[0175] An MBS capable UE in NTN Cell may initiate the procedure of MII transmission upon out of the coverage of the broadcast service (s) , upon not allowed to receive the broadcast service (s) .
[0176] Upon initiating the procedure of MII transmission, the UE shall:
[0177] 1> if the “flag” is set to allow UE to send MII transmission for NTN broadcast service:
[0178] 2> if the Preferred broadcast service list (TMGIs) is available (or expected to be sent) , or,
[0179] 2> if the current used PLMN / MCC is available (or expected to be sent) , or,
[0180] 2> if the current UE location information is available (or expected to be sent) , or,
[0181] 2> if preference on allowedPLMNList (allowedMCCList) , barredPLMNList (barredMCCList) is available (or expected to be sent) , or,
[0182] 2> if preference on referenceLocation_Bcast, distanceThreshold_Bcast is available (or expected to be sent) , or,
[0183] 2> if preference on TA list, RNA info, mapped Cell ID, service area location / coordinate range:
[0184] 3> include the above parameters in to MBS interest indication;
[0185] 3> initiate the transmission of MBSInterestIndication message.
[0186] 1> else (if the “flag” is set to not allow UE to send MII) :
[0187] 2> procedure ends.
[0188] In this way, a method to request NW to adjust its broadcast service area may be provided.
[0189] So far, a solution for restricting a MBS broadcast service is described. It is to be understood that the above example process is merely for illustration and is not intended for limitation. It is also to be understood that operations in the process 200 may be carried out separately or in any suitable combination.
