Description

DescriptionTitle of Invention : Single-trip Modular Whipstock with the Potential of Simultaneous use in Case Hole Wells or Different Open Hole wellsTechnical Field

[0001] The technical field of this invention relates to the fishing equipment for drilling onshore and offshore gas and oil wells. Whipstock is a device used to create a side track in the main path of the well. Background Art

[0002] "DIRECTIONAL CASED HOLE SIDE TRACK METHOD APPLYING ROTARY CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM AND CASING MILL" has been published with W02005047644 publication number in PCT. This invention discloses, a bottomhole assembly for single trip sidetracking operations has a mill for forming an open hole section in a cased wellbore and a steering unit for controlling drill bit orientation. During use, the drilling system is assembled at the surface and tripped into the wellbore. The mill is positioned adjacent a kick-off point and operated to form an open hole section. Thereafter, the drill bit is positioned adjacent the open hole section. An exemplary steering unit includes one or more force application members that, when energized, displace the drill bit such that the bit is pointed in a specified direction into the open hole section. The steering unit also includes one or more force application members that facilitate directional drilling through the open hole section. Other suitable steering units can employ devices that alter the BHA centerline geometry.

[0003] The method and the detail of this invention is completely different with the claimed invention.Technical Problem

[0004] Given that in different stages of drilling or exploitation of oil and gas wells, the well is characterized by different conditions, drilling companies must have different types of whipstocks for different conditions so that, if needed, they can open a new sidetrack in the well as soon as possible.

[0005] For example, if the well is a case hole and there is a need to create a new window in it, it is necessary to use special whipstock for this type of well. Also, if the well is an open hole, depending on the type of formation (formation with hardand semi-hard walls or cement-type formation), specific whipstock will be used. Whipstock is manufactured according to the specifications of the well wall and cannot be used in other types of wells.

[0006] The reason behind designing separate and special whipstock for different wells is that to function properly in the well, the whipstock needs to be well fixed in the wall of the well. As a result, the type of the well wall is a determinant factor for the selection of the suitable whipstock. According to the above description, the oil and gas wells drilling company should have at least three different types of stock in their warehouse, which is not cost-effective.Solution to Problem

[0007] To develop the potential of using a whipstock in different types of case hole and open hole wells, a device has been designed that the user can use for various types of wells by changing a small part of the whipstock.

[0008] In the whipstock system, one of the main parts that is connected to the well wall to fix the whipstock in it and allow the opening of a new side track in the well wall is called slips. If the well casing is made of steel pipe, teeth are cut on the bottom of slips and then they are exposed to heat treatments to get high hardness and the teeth can penetrate the steel pipe casing. If the well is an open hole, the teeth of the slips will be tungsten carbide, which will be welded on the bottom of the slips.

[0009] In the invented whipstock, slips and their locations are designed in such a way that the user can simply install the slips on the whipstock at the project site and direct the whipstock into the well. In this case, case hole and open hole slips for this type of whipstock are available to the user separately. As a result, the user can select the slips modularly based on the type of well, fix them in place with a special spring, and direct the whipstock to the well.Advantageous Effects of Invention

[0010] 1. There is no need to prepare several reserved whipstocks

[0011] 2. It is possible to simply change slips of whipstock depending on the type of well at the project site and without the need for equipment

[0012] 3. It is possible to install slips quickly and use whipstock

[0013] 4. This type of whipstock allows conducting operations with cementing or without cementing with

[0014] 5. It reduces the cost of purchasing equipment and warehousing

[0015] 6. Given the mechanical nature of this system and the lack of use of Oring and hydraulic oil, the whipstock has a long service life and is durable in any weather condition.Brief Description of Drawings

[0017] Fig 2: Stinger pipe

[0018] Fig 3: Types of slipsDescription of Embodiments

[0019] The lowest part of this device is the shoe (1) which collides with the end of the well or with the tool left at the end of the well. The collision of the shoe in any of the situations makes the whipstock driver realize that it has reached the project site.

[0020] If at the project site, there is a need to inject cement, outlet (2) is embedded on the shoe holder. Under normal conditions, this part is only a shoe holder. If the whipstock needs to be longer, the length adjuster (3), which can be adjusted to increase the length, is used.

[0021] The holder barrel (4) provides the necessary space for the spring and moving parts to move. As a result, the two pieces of the cone can approach each other. The spring (7) is assembled in a compressed state and after the shear pin is cut, it throws the lower cone towards the upper cone. The spring has an inner shoe (5) that holds the spring and the shoe itself has a conservator (6) that contracts the spring.

[0022] Setting bushing (8) establishes the connection between the retractable shaft, the shoe holder part and the lower cone. The shear pin is also embedded in this piece. Shear pin (9) is cut by applying a force corresponding to the size of thedevice, because of which the process of fixing the whipstock inside the well begins.

[0023] Ratchet ring (10) allows the single trip movement of extension retractable shaft (11 ) towards the inside of the well, as a result, the shaft inside the ratchet ring can only move down the well and cannot return. By applying force to separate the shaft from the whipstock, the two cones are brought closer together. The ratchet ring does not allow the shaft to return.

[0024] When the upper cone, which is connected to the second whip (16), closes the lower cone (12), it causes the slips (13) to move away from each other and are locked to the well wall. The slips are fixed in place by the spiral spring (14) and when the whip approach each other, the spring opens and allows the slips to move away from the center of the whipstock and lock to the well wall.

[0025] Since the slips can deviate to the left or right when the two cones come close together, a guide piece (15) has been used, which is placed on the sides of the slips to prevent deviation of the slips. The first whip (17) with the help of the second whip removes the drill bit from the main axis of the well to carry out the side track opening operation.

[0026] Stinger pipe (18) is used to direct the cement from the center of the pipe to the bottom. On the top of this pipe, the landing collar (19) is embedded which holds the top of the pipe and is connected to the first whip using a shear pin. Also, this pipe is the place where the cement cleaning brush stops.

[0027] To change the slips to create a sidetrack in different wells, the spring around the slips should be opened, new slips should be installed and the spring should be placed around the slips again. For the open hole well, slips (20) whose teeth are made of "tungsten carbide" are used, which are welded on the bottom. These teeth are irregularly spaced.

[0028] For case hole wells, slips (21 ) are used, the teeth of which are cut on the bottom of the slip, and then heat treatment is performed to increase hardness so that they can penetrate the casing pipe. These teeth are uniformly placed next to each other.Examples

[0029] The drilling companies of oil and gas wells can prepare one whipstock instead of multiple whipstocks to create a sidetrack in different wells. Two types of slips are provided with this whipstock, three for open-hole wells and three for casehole wells. Whenever there is a need to create a new sidetrack in the well, the drilling company installs three slips related to the shock absorber on the whipstock and guides it into the well. Also, if there is a need for cementing, it is possible to inject cement into this whipstock.Industrial Applicability

[0030] This invention is used in the stages of drilling or exploitation of onshore and offshore oil and gas wells.
