Abstract

This document generally relates to wireless communication that includes a network device that configures, and a user device that receives a configuration of, at least one of a first type of resource or a second type of resource for the user device, where the first type of resource or the second type of resource includes a first one or more symbols. The network device and / or the user device determine whether or not to communicate an uplink (UL) signal according to the first or second type of resource when a time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in a time domain with the first or second type of resource, or a second one or more symbols before or after the first or second type of resource. The network device and / or the user device communicate or do not communicate the UL signal according to the determination.

Description

TRANSMISSION DETERMINATIONS WHEN RESOURCES OVERLAP FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This document is directed generally to transmission determinations when resources overlap for wireless communications.BACKGROUND

[0002] In a sub-band full duplex (SBFD) operation in wireless communications, a downlink (DL) sub-band and an uplink (UL) sub-band are on one or more orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. A user device can receive a DL signal within the DL sub-band or transmit an UL signal within the UL sub-band, but the user device cannot receive and transmit signals simultaneously. In some OFDM symbols, the user device may or may not receive the DL signal. In such situations, the network may not be able to determine the user device’s behavior in event that the UL signal is in these OFDM symbols. Ways to more clearly define the user device’s behavior and / or align the user device and the network with each other in such situations in order to enhance system performance may be desirable.SUMMARY

[0014] The example headings for the various sections below are used to facilitate the understanding of the disclosed subject matter and do not limit the scope of the claimed subject matter in any way. Accordingly, one or more features of one example section can be combined with one or more features of another example section. Furthermore, 5G terminology is used for the sake of clarity of explanation, but the techniques disclosed in the present document are not limited to 5G technology only, and may be used in wireless systems that implemented other protocols, e.g., 6G or beyond.

[0015] The present description describes various embodiments of systems, apparatuses, devices, and methods for wireless communications related to transmission determinations when resources overlap. In addition, transmission scheduling or determination methods are also described.

[0016] FIG. 1 shows a diagram of an example wireless communication system 100 including a plurality of communication nodes (or just nodes) that are configured to wirelessly communicate with each other. In general, the communication nodes include at least one user device 102 and at least one network device 104. The example wireless communication system 100 in FIG. 1 is shown as including two user devices 102, including a first user device 102 (1) and a second user device 102 (2) , and one network device 104. However, various other examples of the wireless communication system 100 that include any of various combinations of one or more user devices 102 and / or one or more network devices 104 may be possible.

[0017] In general, a user device as described herein, such as the user device 102, may include a single electronic device or apparatus, or multiple (e.g., a network of) electronic devices or apparatuses, capable of communicating wirelessly over a network. A user device may comprise or otherwise be referred to as a user terminal, a user terminal device, or a user equipment (UE) . Additionally, a user device may be or include, but not limited to, a mobile device (such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a smart watch, a tablet, a laptop computer, vehicle or other vessel (human, motor, or engine-powered, such as an automobile, a plane, a train, a ship, or a bicycle as non-limiting examples) or a fixed or stationary device, (such as a desktop computer or other computing  device that is not ordinarily moved for long periods of time, such as appliances, other relatively heavy devices including Internet of things (IoT) , or computing devices used in commercial or industrial environments, as non-limiting examples) . In various embodiments, a user device 102 may include transceiver circuitry 106 coupled to an antenna 108 to effect wireless communication with the network device 104. The transceiver circuitry 106 may also be coupled to a processor 110, which may also be coupled to a memory 112 or other storage device. The memory 112 may store therein instructions or code that, when read and executed by the processor 110, cause the processor 110 to implement various ones of the methods described herein.

[0018] Additionally, in general, a network device as described herein, such as the network device 104, may include a single electronic device or apparatus, or multiple (e.g., a network of) electronic devices or apparatuses, and may comprise one or more wireless access nodes, base stations, or other wireless network access points capable of communicating wirelessly over a network with one or more user devices and / or with one or more other network devices 104. For example, the network device 104 may comprise a 4G LTE base station, a 5G NR base station, a 5G central-unit base station, a 5G distributed-unit base station, a next generation Node B (gNB) , an enhanced Node B (eNB) , or other similar or next-generation (e.g., 6G) base stations, in various embodiments. A network device 104 may include transceiver circuitry 114 coupled to an antenna 116, which may include an antenna tower 118 in various approaches, to effect wireless communication with the user device 102 or another network device 104. The transceiver circuitry 114 may also be coupled to one or more processors 120, which may also be coupled to a memory 122 or other storage device. The memory 122 may store therein instructions or code that, when read and executed by the processor 120, cause the processor 120 to implement one or more of the methods described herein.

[0019] In various embodiments, two communication nodes in the wireless system 100-such as a user device 102 and a network device 104, two user devices 102 without a network device 104, or two network devices 104 without a user device 102-may be configured to wirelessly communicate with each other in or over a mobile network and / or a wireless access network according to one or more standards and / or specifications. In general, the standards and / or specifications may define the rules or procedures under which the communication nodes can wirelessly communicate, which, in various embodiments, may include those for communicating in millimeter (mm) -Wave bands, and / or with multi-antenna schemes and beamforming functions. In addition or alternatively, the standards and / or specifications are those that define a radio access technology and / or a cellular technology, such as Fourth Generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) , Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) , or New Radio Unlicensed (NR-U) , as non-limiting examples.

[0020] Additionally, in the wireless system 100, the communication nodes are configured to wirelessly communicate signals between each other. In general, a communication in the wireless system 100 between two communication nodes can be or include a transmission or a reception, and is generally both simultaneously, depending on the perspective of a particular node in the communication. For example, for a given communication between a first node and a second node where the first node is transmitting a signal to the second node and the second node is receiving the signal from the first node, the first node may be referred to as a source or transmitting node or device, the second node may be referred to as a destination or receiving node or device, and the communication may be considered a transmission for the first node and a reception for the second node. Of course, since communication nodes in a wireless system 100 can both send and receive signals, a single communication node may be both a transmitting / source node and a receiving / destination node simultaneously or switch between being a source / transmitting node and a destination / receiving node.

[0021] Also, particular signals can be characterized or defined as either an uplink (UL) signal, a downlink (DL) signal, or a sidelink (SL) signal. An uplink signal is a signal transmitted from a user device 102 to a network device 104. A downlink signal is a signal transmitted from a network device 104 to a user device 102. A sidelink signal is a signal transmitted from a one user device 102 to another user device 102, or a signal transmitted from one network device 104 to a another network device 104. Also, for sidelink transmissions, a first / source user device 102 directly transmits a sidelink signal to a second / destination user device 102 without any forwarding of the sidelink signal to a network device 104.

[0022] Additionally, signals communicated between communication nodes in the system 100 may be characterized or defined as a data signal or a control signal. In general, a data signal is a signal that includes or carries data, such multimedia data (e.g., voice and / or image data) , and a control signal is a signal that carries control information that configures the communication nodes in certain ways in order to communicate with each other, or otherwise controls how the communication nodes communicate data signals with each other. Also, certain signals may be defined or characterized by combinations of data / control and uplink / downlink / sidelink, including uplink control signals, uplink data signals, downlink control signals, downlink data signals, sidelink control signals, and sidelink data signals.

[0023] For at least some specifications, such as 5G NR, data and control signals are transmitted and / or carried on physical channels. Generally, a physical channel corresponds to a set of time-frequency resources used for transmission of a signal. Different types of physical channels may be used to transmit different types of signals. For example, physical data channels (or just data channels) , also herein called traffic channels, are  used to transmit data signals, and physical control channels (or just control channels) are used to transmit control signals. Example types of traffic channels (or physical data channels) include, but are not limited to, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) used to communicate downlink data signals, a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) used to communicate uplink data signals, and a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) used to communicate sidelink data signals. In addition, example types of physical control channels include, but are not limited to, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) used to communicate downlink control signals, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) used to communicate uplink control signals, and a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH) used to communicate sidelink control signals. As used herein for simplicity, unless specified otherwise, a particular type of physical channel is also used to refer to a signal that is transmitted on that particular type of physical channel, and / or a transmission on that particular type of transmission. As an example illustration, a PDSCH refers to the physical downlink shared channel itself, a downlink data signal transmitted on the PDSCH, or a downlink data transmission. Accordingly, a communication node transmitting or receiving a PDSCH means that the communication node is transmitting or receiving a signal on a PDSCH.

[0024] Additionally, for at least some specifications, such as 5G NR, and / or for at least some types of control signals, a control signal that a communication node transmits may include control information comprising the information necessary to enable transmission of one or more data signals between communication nodes, and / or to schedule one or more data channels (or one or more transmissions on data channels) . For example, such control information may include the information necessary for proper reception, decoding, and demodulation of a data signals received on physical data channels during a data transmission, and / or for uplink scheduling grants that inform the user device about the resources and transport format to use for uplink data transmissions. In some embodiments, the control information includes downlink control information (DCI) that is transmitted in the downlink direction from a network device 104 to a user device 102. In other embodiments, the control information includes uplink control information (UCI) that is transmitted in the uplink direction from a user device 102 to a network device 104, or sidelink control information (SCI) that is transmitted in the sidelink direction from one user device 102 (1) to another user device 102 (2) .

[0025] FIG. 2 shows a flow chart of an example method 200 for wireless communication that involves overlapping resources. At block 202, a network device 104 configures at least one of a first type of resource or a second type of resource for a user device 102. The first type of resource or the second type of resource includes a first one or more symbols. At block 204, the network device 104 determines whether or not to receive an uplink (UL) signal according to the first type of resource or the second type of resource when a time  domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in a time domain with the first type of resource, the second type of resource, or a second one or more symbols before or after the first type of resource or before or after the second type of resource. At block 206, the network device 104 receives or does not receive, from the user device, the UL signal according to the determining of whether or not to receive the UL signal according to the first type of resource or the second type of resource when the time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the first type of resource, the second type of resource, or the second one or more symbols before or after the first type of resource or before or after the second type of resource.

[0026] FIG. 3 shows a flow chart of another example method 300 for wireless communication that involves overlapping resources. At block 302, a user device 102 receives a configuration of at least one of a first type of resource or a second type of resource, wherein the first type of resource or the second type of resource comprises a first one or more symbols. At block 304, the user device 102 determines whether or not to transmit an uplink (UL) signal according to the first type of resource or the second type of resource when a time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in a time domain with the first type of resource, the second type of resource, or a second one or more symbols before or after the first type of resource or before or after the second type of resource. At block 306, the user device 102 transmits or does not transmit, to a network device 104, the UL signal according to the determining of whether or not to transmit the UL signal according to the first type of resource or the second type of resource when the time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the first type of resource, the second type of resource, or a second one or more symbols before or after the first type of resource or before or after the second type of resource.

[0027] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, the first one or more symbols is configured with an UL sub-band.

[0028] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, when the time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the first type of resource or the second one or more symbols before or after the first type of resource, transmission of the UL signal is cancelled or a downlink (DL) signal is communicated from the network device 104 to the user device 102 on the first type of resource or on the second one or more symbols before or after the first type of resource.

[0029] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, when the time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the second type of resource or the second one or more symbols before or after the second type of resource, the user device transmits the UL signal to the  network device or a downlink (DL) signal is not communicated on the second type of resource or on the second one or more symbols before or after the second type of resource.

[0034] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, the network device 104 indicates a first part of a resource as the first type of resource and a second part of the resource as the second type of resource, wherein the resource comprises a measurement time configuration (MTC) resource; a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) resource; or a measurement resource.

[0035] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, the first type of resource includes a first type of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring occasions and the second type of resource includes a second type of PDCCH monitoring occasions.

[0036] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, when the time domain resource for transmission of the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the first type of PDCCH monitoring occasions or the one or more symbols before or after the first type of PDCCH monitoring occasions, transmission of the UL signal is cancelled or the user device 102 monitors for a PDCCH on the first type of PDCCH monitoring occasions.

[0037] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, when the time domain resource the transmission of the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the second type of PDCCH monitoring occasions or the one or more symbols before or after the second type of PDCCH monitoring occasions, the user device 102 transmits the UL signal or the user device 102 does not monitor for a PDCCH on the second type of PDCCH monitoring occasions.

[0038] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, the first type of PDCCH monitoring occasions includes: a PDCCH monitoring occasion associated with a common search space or a user device-specific search space; a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion; a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion determined based on an identify of the user device 102; a system information (SI) PDCCH monitoring occasion; a SI PDCCH monitoring occasion within a first SI modification period when a downlink control information (DCI) indicates that the SI has changed; or a random access response (RAR) PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some of these implementations, the first type of PDCCH monitoring occasions includes the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion within the first SI modification period when the DCI indicates that the SI has changed, and wherein the DCI is transmitted on the first SI modification period or a previous SI modification period.

[0039] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, the second type of PDCCH monitoring occasions includes: a PDCCH monitoring occasion associated with a common search space or a user device-specific search space; a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion; a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion other than a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion determined based on an identity of the user device; a system information (SI) PDCCH monitoring occasion; a SI PDCCH monitoring occasion within a first SI modification period when a downlink control information (DCI) indicates that the SI does change; or a random access response (RAR) PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0040] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, a transmission of the UL signal comprises a dynamically scheduled transmission, a semi-persistent transmission, or a periodic transmission.

[0041] Further details, any or all of which may be implemented in any of various embodiments of the method 200, the method 300, and / or other methods, are now described.

[0042] In some embodiments, the network device may configure, or a protocol according to which communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate and / or operate may specify, at least one uplink (UL) sub-band for a user device 102. Additionally, the network device 104 may configure at least one of a downlink (DL) bandwidth part (BWP) or an UL BWP for the user device 102. Also, one or more  time units may include at least one of a downlink (DL) time unit, a flexible time unit, or an uplink time unit. A DL time unit is a time unit designated or configured for one or more DL transmissions. An UL time unit is a time unit designated or configured for one or more UL transmissions. Also, the term “flexible” as used for the time unit refers to that the user device 102 may not make any assumptions as to the uplink or downlink transmission direction for that time unit. The user device 102 may transmit in the UL direction or receive in the DL direction on or in a given flexible time unit, which may depend on any scheduling or other configuration, such as determined by the network device 104. In addition, the network device 104 may configure, or a protocol according to which the communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate and / or operate, may specify at least one downlink (DL) sub-band for the user device 102. The uplink sub-band and the DL sub-band may be on the DL time unit or flexible time unit in the time domain. In some embodiments, the uplink sub-band may be included in the DL BWP in the frequency domain. In other embodiments, only some of the uplink sub-band may be included in the DL BWP in the frequency domain. In other embodiments, the UL sub-band may not be included in the DL BWP in the frequency domain. Additionally, the downlink sub-band may be included in the DL BWP in the frequency domain. In some of these embodiments, a frequency gap may exist between the DL sub-band and UL sub-band in the frequency domain.

[0043] Additionally, in any of various embodiments, a time unit may include a system frame, a sub-frame, a slot, a sub-slot, or a symbol (e.g., an orthogonal frequency divisional multiplexing (OFDM) symbol) . In addition, as used herein, a time unit configured with an UL sub-band or a DL sub-band is referred to as an UL sub-band time unit. For simplicity, the various embodiments described hereafter use the term “UL sub-band symbol” (i.e., symbol is used as the example time unit) , although time units other than symbols may be used for any of various other embodiments within the scope of the present description.

[0044] Additionally, for at least some embodiments, in UL sub-band symbol (s) , the user device 102 may transmit an UL signal to the network device 104 within the UL sub-band. Also, in the UL sub-band symbol (s) , the network device 104 may transmit a DL signal to the user device 102 within the DL sub-band.

[0045] FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram of an example of an OFDM symbols format. In the example format, there are five slots, denoted by Slot 0, Slot 1, Slot 2, Slot 3, and Slot 4. Each slot includes 14 OFDM symbols, denoted by OFDM symbols 0-13. The OFDM symbols in the first two slots (e.g., Slot 0 and Slot 1) are DL symbols. The OFDM symbols in the second two slots (e.g., Slot 2 and Slot 3) are flexible symbols. The OFDM symbols in the last slot (e.g., Slot 4) are UL symbols. The UL sub-band may be configured in the last 10 OFDM symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols 4-13) of Slot 1, in the OFDM symbols of Slot 2, and in the first eight OFDM  symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols 0-7) of Slot 3. The DL sub-band may also be configured in these symbols. Therefore, these symbols are referred to as UL sub-band symbols. In the example, UL sub-band symbols include the DL symbol with the UL sub-band and the flexible symbol with UL sub-band.

[0046] Additionally, in some embodiments, a first type of resource may include one or more OFDM symbols in the time domain. In some of these embodiments, the network device 104, or a protocol according to which communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate or operate, may specify the first type of resource for the user device 102. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit the UL signal on a first type of resource. That is, the user device 102 may only receive the DL signal on the first type of resource. In such situations, the UL signal overlaps with the first type of resource at least in the time domain, and the user device 102 may cancel the UL signal transmission (or may not transmit the UL signal) , and / or the user device 102 may receive the DL signal transmitted on the first type of resource. In some embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit the UL signal on one or more OFDM symbols before or after the first type of resource. The user device 102 may only receive the DL signal on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the first type of resource. In at least some of these situations, the UL signal overlaps with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the first type of resource, or the gap between the UL signal and the first type of resource (e.g., the gap between the starting symbol of the UL signal and the ending symbol of the first type of resource or the gap between the ending symbol of the UL signal and the starting symbol of the first type of resource) is smaller than a certain value (e.g., one or more OFDM symbols) . In these situations, the user device 102 may cancel the UL signal transmission (or may not transmit the UL signal) and / or the user device 102 may receive the signal transmitted on the first type of resource. In any of various embodiments, the number of one or more OFDM symbols or the certain value may be a predetermined value, configured by the network device 104, and / or specified by a protocol according to which the communication nodes of the wireless communication system 100 are configured to communicate and / or operate. Additionally, in some embodiments, when determining whether the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the first type of resource, or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the first type of resource, a timing advance (TA) of the UL signal transmission may be taken into account by the user device 102 and / or the network device 104.

[0047] FIG. 5 is a schematic diagram of an example of the signal transmission. In the example, the first type of resource may include four OFDM symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols 3-6) . The UL signal 2 is scheduled on the OFDM symbol 4-7. The UL signal 2 overlaps with the first type of resource in the time domain. In turn, the  user device 102 may not transmit UL signal 2. The user device 102 may receive the DL signal 1. UL signal 1 is scheduled on the OFDM symbols 0-1. Additionally, two OFDM symbols before the first type of resource include the OFDM symbols 1-2, and two OFDM symbols after the first type of resource include the OFDM symbols 7-8. UL signal 1 overlaps in the time domain with the two OFDM symbols before the first type of the resource. In turn, the user device 102 may not transmit UL signal 1. UL signal 3 is scheduled on the OFDM symbol 9-11. UL signal 3 does not overlap with the first type of resource. Additionally, UL signal 3 does not overlap in the time domain with the two OFDM symbols before the first type of resource, and UL signal 3 does not overlap in the time domain with two OFDM symbols after the first type of resource. Correspondingly, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal 3.

[0048] Additionally, in some embodiments, a second type of resource may include one or multiple OFDM symbols in the time domain. The network device 104, or a protocol according to which communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate and / or operate, may specify the second type of resource for the user device 102. The user device 102 may be able to transmit the UL signal on a second type of resource. The user device 102 may not be able to receive the DL signal on the second type of resource. In such situations, the UL signal overlaps with the second type of resource at least in the time domain, and the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not receive the DL signal that is transmitted on the second type of resource by the network device 104. In some embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to transmit the UL signal on one or more OFDM symbols before or after the second type of resource. In at least some of these situations, the UL signal overlaps with one or more (e.g., a predetermined number of) OFDM symbols before or after the second type of resource, or a gap between the UL signal and the second type of resource (e.g., a gap between the starting symbol of the UL signal and the ending symbol of the second type of resource or the gap between the ending symbol of the UL signal and the starting symbol of the second type of resource) is smaller than the a certain value of one or more OFDM symbols. In these situations, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal or may not transmit the UL signal, and / or the user device 102 may not receive the DL signal that is transmitted on the second type of resource by the network device 104. In addition or alternatively, the UL signal may be transmitted within the UL sub-band. Additionally, in some embodiments, when determining whether the UL signal overlaps in the time domain with the second type of resource, or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the second type of resource, a timing advance (TA) of the UL signal transmission may be taken into account by the user device 102 and / or the network device 104.

[0049] Still referring to the example in FIG. 5, the second type of resource may include four OFDM symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols 3-6) . The user device 102 may be able to transmit UL signal 1, UL signal 2 or UL signal 3. However, the user device 102 may not receive the DL signal 1.

[0050] In any of various embodiments, including as in the example in FIG. 5, the UL signal (e.g., any of UL signals 1, 2, and 3) may include at least one of a PUCCH, a PUSCH, a physical random access channel (PRACH) , a sounding reference signal (SRS) , a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) , or an UL demodulation reference signal (DMRS) .

[0051] Additionally, in some embodiments, a measurement time configuration (MTC) may include a synchronization signal (SS)  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) measurement time configuration (SMTC) or a channel state information (CSI) -reference signal (RS) measurement time configuration (CMTC) . In some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may configure the SSB measurement time configuration (SMTC) and / or the CMTC for the user device 102. In addition or alternatively, within the SMTC, the user device 102 may measure at least the SSB. Within the CMTC, the user device 102 may measure at least the CSI-RS. The configuration of the SMTC or the CMTC may include at least one of a period (e.g., one or more OFDM symbols) , an offset (e.g., one or more OFDM symbols) , or a duration (e.g., one or more OFDM symbols) . Within the SMTC duration or the CMTC duration, there may be multiple OFDM symbols.

[0052] Additionally, in some embodiments, the OFDM symbols within the MTC duration may be the second type of resource. In such embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols within the MTC duration, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the MTC duration. When the UL signal overlaps with the OFDM symbols within the MTC duration or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the MTC duration at least in the time domain, or the gap between the UL signal and the MTC duration is smaller than the certain value, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not receive the signal transmitted on the MTC duration or on the one or more symbols before or after the MTC duration. In additionally or alternatively, the UL sub-band symbols within the MTC may be or include the second type of resource.

[0053] Additionally, in some embodiments, the OFDM symbols within the MTC duration may be or include the first type of resource. In such embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols within the MTC duration, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the MTC duration. When the UL signal overlaps with the OFDM symbols within the MTC duration or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the MTC duration at least in the time domain, or the gap between  the UL signal and the MTC duration is smaller than the certain value, the user device 102 may not transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may receive the signal transmitted on the MTC duration or on the one or more symbols before or after the MTC duration. In additionally or alternatively, the UL sub-band symbols within the MTC may be the first type of resource.

[0054] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate the resource type of the OFDM symbols or slots within the MTC for the user device 102. The network device 104 may indicate that the OFDM symbols or slots within the MTC are or include the first type of resource or the second type of resource. For example, a bitmap may be used for indicating that the OFDM symbols or slots within the MTC may be the first type of resource or the second type of resource. In some of these embodiments, the length of the bitmap (e.g., the number of bits of the bitmap) may be equal to the number of OFDM symbols or the slots within the MTC. Each bit in the bitmap may correspond to an OFDM symbol or a slot within the MTC. A first bit value (e.g., '0' ) may indicate that the corresponding OFDM symbol or corresponding slot may be the first type of resource. The second bit value (e.g., '1' ) may indicate that corresponding slot may be the second type of resource.

[0055] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate that all of the OFDM symbols or UL sub-band OFDM symbols within the MTC may be or include the first type of resource or the second type of resource. The network device 104 may indicate which MTC may include the OFDM symbols or UL sub-band OFDM symbols to be the first type of resource and which MTC may include the OFDM symbols or UL sub-band OFDM symbols to be the second type of resource. In some of these embodiments, a bitmap may indicate the resource type every N MTCs. The bitmap may include N bits, where each bit may correspond to one MTC. A first bit value (e.g., '0' ) may indicate that the OFDM symbol or the UL sub-band OFDM symbols of the corresponding MTC may be the first type of resource. The second bit value (e.g., '1' ) may indicate that the OFDM symbol or the UL sub-band OFDM symbols of the corresponding MTC may be the second type of resource. To illustrate as an example, assuming N is equal to 4, the bitmap may indicate the resource type every 4 MTCs. The first bit may correspond to the first MTC, the fifth MTC, the ninth MTC, and so on. The second bit may correspond to the second MTC, the sixth MTC, the tenth MTC, and so on.

[0056] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network 104 may configure a measurement resource for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, the measurement resource may include at least one of one or more DL OFDM symbols, one or more flexible OFDM symbols, one or more UL sub-band OFDM symbols, or one or more UL OFDM symbols. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the measurement resource may be periodic. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the measurement resource  may be or include a SSB resource or a CSI-RS resource. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may configure the SSB resource or the CSI-RS resource for the user device 102. In addition or alternatively, the measurement resource may be or include a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) measurement resource. The RSSI measurement resource may include one or more OFDM symbols in the time domain and / or one or more resource blocks (RB) in the frequency domain. In some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may configure the RSSI measurement resource for the user device 102. The user device 102 may perform measurement on the RSSI measurement resource to obtain the RSSI.

[0057] In addition, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate that one or more OFDM symbols in the one or more slots within the SMTC duration may be the RSSI measurement resource. For example, the network device 104 may use a bitmap to indicate the slot within the SMTC duration to be used for RSSI measurement. The indicated slot used for RSSI measurement may be referred to as a RSSI slot. The length of the bitmap may be the number of slots within the SMTC. Each bit may correspond to one slot. For example, a first bit value (e.g., the bit value '0' ) may indicate that the corresponding slot may not be used for RSSI measurement. A second bit value (e.g., the bit value '1' ) may indicate that the corresponding slot may be used for RSSI measurement. In addition, in some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate the OFDM symbols within the RSSI slots to be used for RSSI measurement. For example, the network device 104 may indicate that the first one or more OFDM symbols may be used for RSSI measurement. In such embodiments, the RSSI measurement resource may include the first one or more OFDM symbols in the RSSI slots.

[0058] Additionally, in some embodiments, the OFDM symbols of the measurement resource may be or include the first type of resource. In at least some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the measurement resource, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the measurement resource. In some situations, when the UL signal overlaps with the OFDM symbols of the measurement resource or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the measurement resource at least in the time domain, or a gap between the UL signal and the measurement resource is smaller than a certain value, the user device 102 may cancel the UL signal transmission (or may not transmit the UL signal) and / or the user device 102 may receive the signal transmitted on the measurement resource or on the one or more symbols before or after the measurement resource, and / or may perform measurement. In addition or alternatively, in some embodiments, the UL sub-band symbols within the measurement resource may be the first type of resource. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to (and / or may determine  not to) transmit the UL signal on the UL sub-band symbols within the measurement resource, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the UL sub-band symbols within the measurement resource.

[0059] Additionally, in some embodiments, the OFDM symbols within the measurement resource may be the second type of resource. In at least some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols within the measurement resource, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the measurement resource. In some situations, when the UL signal overlaps with the OFDM symbols within the measurement resource or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the measurement resource at least in the time domain, or a gap between the UL signal and the measurement resource is smaller than a certain value, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not receive the signal transmitted on the SMTC duration or on the one or more symbols before or after the SMTC duration, and / or may not perform measurement. In addition or alternatively, the UL sub-band symbols within the SMTC may be the second type of resource.

[0060] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate whether the measurement resource is the first type of resource or the second type of resource. In at least some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate a resource type (e.g., the first type or the second type) of the measurement resource every M measurement resources. In addition or alternatively, in at least some of these embodiments, a bitmap with M bits may be used for indicating the resource type, where each bit may correspond to one measurement resource. A first bit value (e.g., '0' ) may indicate that the corresponding measurement resource (or the OFDM symbols or the UL sub-band OFDM symbols of the corresponding measurement resource) may be or include the first type of resource. A second bit value (e.g., '1' ) may indicate that the corresponding measurement resource (or the OFDM symbol or the UL sub-band OFDM symbols of the corresponding measurement resource) may be or include the second type of resource. To illustrate as an example, assuming M is equal to 4, the bitmap may indicate the resource type every 4 measurement resources. The first bit may correspond to the first measurement resource, the fifth measurement resource, the ninth measurement resource, and so on. The second bit may correspond to the second measurement resource, the sixth measurement resource, the tenth measurement resource, and so on.

[0061] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may configure one or more CSI-RS resources for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, the CSI-RS resource or the OFDM symbols of the CSI-RS resources may be the first type of resource. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit an UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the CSI- RS resource, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the CSI-RS resource. In situations where the UL signal overlaps with the OFDM symbols of the CSI-RS resource or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the CSI-RS resource at least in the time domain, or a gap between the UL signal and the CSI-RS resource is smaller than a certain value, the user device 102 may cancel the UL signal transmission (or may not transmit the UL signal) and / or the user device 102 may receive the signal transmitted on the CSI-RS resource or on the one or more symbols before or after the CSI-RS resource (or may perform measurement) . In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the UL sub-band symbols within the CSI-RS resource may be or include the first type of resource. For at least some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit the UL signal on the UL sub-band symbols within the CSI-RS resource, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the UL sub-band symbols within the CSI-RS resource.

[0062] Additionally, in some embodiments, the CSI-RS resource or OFDM symbols of the CSI-RS resource may be or include the second type of resource. For at least some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the CSI-RS resource, or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the measurement resource. In situations when the UL signal overlaps with the OFDM symbols of the CSI-RS resource or with the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the CSI-RS resource at least in the time domain, or a gap between the UL signal and the CSI-RS resource is smaller than a certain value, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not receive the signal transmitted on the OFDM symbols of CSI-RS resource or on the one or more symbols before or after the CSI-RS resource. In addition or alternatively, the UL sub-band symbols within the SMTC may be the second type of resource.

[0063] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may report a timing difference between a first base station (BS) of a first network device 104 and a second BS of a second network device 104 to the first BS.The timing difference may be the difference of the time that the user device 102 receives a time unit from the first BS and the time that the user device 102 receives the same time unit from the second BS. For example, the user device 102 may receive a specific time unit from the first BS unit at a first time t1. The user device 102 may receive the specific time unit from the second BS at a second time t2. The timing difference between the first BS and the second BS may be the timing difference between the first time t1 and the second time t2 (i.e., t1-t2) .

[0064] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may report the time unit offset between the first BS and the second BS to the first BS. The time unit offset may be the difference of the time unit number  of the first BS and the time unit number of the second BS at a time. For example, at a time, the time unit number of the first BS received by the user device 102 may be F1 and the time unit number of the second BS received by the user device 102 may be F2. The time unit offset may be F1-F2.

[0065] Additionally, in some embodiments, the first BS or the second BS may transmit the CSI-RS to the user device 102. The first BS may determine the position of the CSI-RS resource of the second BS in the system frame of the first BS based on the timing difference or the time unit offset. For example, the CSI-RS resource of the second BS may occupy OFDM symbol O1 in the system frame of the second BS. Correspondingly, this CSI-RS resource may be on an OFDM symbol determined by OFDM symbol O1 and the timing difference and / or the time unit offset. For example, the CSI-RS resource may be on OFDM symbol (O1-t1+t2) or OFDM symbol (O1-F2+F1) in the system frame of the first BS.

[0066] FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram of an example of CSI-RS position determination. In the example in FIG. 6, there are 14 OFDM symbols, denoted by OFDM symbols 0-13. Also, in the example as shown in FIG. 6, an OFDM symbol boundary of Cell 1 and Cell 2 are not aligned in the time domain. In the system frame of Cell 1, the OFDM symbol 0 starts at a first time t1. In the system frame of Cell 2, the OFDM symbol 0 starts at a second time t2, where the first time t1 is earlier than the second time t2. Correspondingly, the time difference between Cell 1 and Cell 2 is t1-t2, which in the example is -3.5*ts, where ts is the duration of one OFDM symbol. In Cell 2, the CSI-RS resource of Cell 2 may be on the OFDM symbol 4. Correspondingly, the user device 102 or the network device 104 in Cell 1 may determine that the CSI-RS may be on the OFDM symbols 7 and 8 in the system frame of Cell 1, which may be determined by 4- (t1-t2) = 4- (-3.5*ts) ) .

[0067] Additionally, still referring to the example, at a third time t3, the user device 102 may receive a starting boundary of the OFDM symbol 13 of Cell 1, e.g., F1=13. Also, such as concurrently or at the same time, the user device 102 may receive the OFDM symbol 9 of Cell 2, which may be seen or identified as OFDM symbol 9.5, e.g., F2=9.5. Correspondingly, the OFDM symbol offset of Cell 1 and Cell 2 is 3.5. In turn, the user device 102 or the network device 104 in Cell 1 may determine that the CSI-RS may be on the OFDM symbols 7 and 8 in the system frame of Cell 1, which may be determined by 4- (F2-F1) = 4- (9.5-13) .

[0068] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may report the first type of resource or the second type of resource to the network device 104. In some of these embodiments, the first BS may configure the CSI-RS resource of the second BS for the user device 102. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the configuration of the CSI-RS resource of the second BS may include at least one of a time domain resource or a frequency domain resource. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments,  the user device 102 may report to the first BS the OFDM symbol of the CSI-RS resource of the second BS in the system frame of the first BS. The OFDM symbol of the CSI-RS resource of the second BS in the system frame of the first BS may be determined based on at least one of the OFDM symbol of the CSI-RS resource in the system frame of the second BS, the time difference between the first BS and the second BS, and / or the time unit offset between the first BS and the second BS. Still referring to the example in FIG. 6, the CSI-RS resource is on the OFDM symbol 7 and OFDM symbol 8 in the system fame of Cell 1. The user device 102 may report the OFDM symbol 7 and the OFDM symbol 8, which is the OFDM symbols of the CSI-RS resource of Cell 2 in the system frame of the Cell 1, to a network device 104 operating in Cell 1.

[0069] Additionally, in some embodiments, the reported OFDM symbol of the CSI-RS resource may be the first type of resource. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit an UL signal on the reported OFDM symbols or the more or more OFDM symbol before or after the reported OFDM symbols, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. In other of these embodiments, the reported OFDM symbol of the CSI-RS resource may be the second type of resource. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to transmit an UL signal on the reported OFDM symbols or the more or more OFDM symbols before or after the reported OFDM symbols, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0070] Similarly, in some embodiments, the first BS may configure the SSB of the second BS for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may report to the first BS the OFDM symbol of the SSB of the second BS in the system frame of the first BS. The OFDM symbol of the SSB of the second BS in the system frame of the first BS may be determined based on at least one of the OFDM symbol of the SSB in the system frame of the second BS, the time difference between the first BS and the second BS, or the time unit offset between the first BS and the second BS. In some of these embodiments, the reported OFDM symbol of the SSB may be the first type of resource. The user device 102 may not be able to transmit the UL signal on the reported OFDM symbols or the more or more OFDM symbol before or after the reported OFDM symbols, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. In other of these embodiments, the reported OFDM symbol of the SSB may be the second type of resource. The user device 102 may be able to transmit an UL signal on the reported OFDM symbols or the more or more OFDM symbol before or after the reported OFDM symbols, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0071] Additionally, in some embodiments, the first BS may configure the measurement resource for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, the measurement resource may be on the DL symbols. In  addition or alternatively, the measurement resource may be on the UL sub-band symbols. The user device 102 may obtain a first measurement result by measuring the measurement resource on the DL symbols. In addition or alternatively, the user device 102 may obtain a second measurement result by measuring the measurement resource on the UL sub-band symbols.

[0072] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 and / or the network device 104 may operate under a restriction that the first measurement result and the second measurement result cannot be compared to determine whether the condition of an event is satisfied.

[0073] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may configure a first value for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, the first value may be configured for the first measurement result or the second measurement result, and / or the first value may be used to determine whether the condition of the event is satisfied. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may perform an operation (e.g., a mathematical operation) on the first measurement result and / or the second measurement result by using the first value. In some embodiments, the operation (e.g., mathematical operation) is addition or subtraction. For example, the user device 102 may add the first value to the first measurement result or to the second measurement result, or the user device 102 may subtract the first value from the first measurement result or from the second measurement result. After performance of the operation, the user device 102 may perform comparison using the first measurement result and the second measurement result to determine whether the condition of the event is satisfied. For example, if the difference between the first measurement result and the second measurement result is smaller than, equal to, or greater than a threshold, then the user device 102 may determine the condition of the event to be satisfied.

[0074] In some embodiments, the DL signal or one or more OFDM symbols before or after the DL signal may overlap with the UL signal or with one or more OFDM symbols before or after the UL signal at least in the time domain. Alternatively, the gap between the DL signal and the UL signal may be smaller than the certain value. In situations where the DL signal is a dynamically scheduled signal and / or the UL signal is a semi-persistent UL signal or a periodic UL signal, or the DL signal has a higher priority than the UL signal, the user device 102 may not transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may receive the DL signal. In situations where the UL signal is a dynamically scheduled signal and / or the DL signal is a semi-persistent DL signal or a periodic DL signal, or the UL signal has a higher priority than the DL signal, the user device 102 may not receive the DL signal and / or the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal. In situations where the DL signal is semi-persistent signal or periodic signal and / or the UL signal is semi-persistent signal or periodic signal, the network  device 104 may configure, or a protocol according to which the communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate and / or operate, may specify whether the user device 102 transmits the UL signal or the user device 102 receives the DL signal. For example, the network device 104 may configure, or a protocol according to which the communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate and / or operate, may specify that the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not receive the DL signal in such situations. Alternatively, the network device 104 may configure, or a protocol according to which the communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100 communicate and / or operate, may specify that the user device 102 may receive the DL signal and / or the user device 102 may not transmit the UL signal in such situations. The network device 104 may configure at least one of the priority of the DL signal or the priority of the UL signal for the user device 102. The DL signal may include a PDCCH, a PDSCH, a CSI-RS, a PTRS or a positioning reference signal (PRS) . The DL signal or the UL signal may be scheduled by the network device 104.

[0075] In some embodiments, the network device may schedule at least one DL signal (e.g., a PDSCH) or at least one UL signal (e.g., a PUSCH) on at least one serving cell. A serving cell set may include at least one serving cell. The network device 104 may configure one or more serving cell sets for the user device 102. Each serving cell set may be identified or indicated by a set identifier. The network device 104 may configure the set identifier for each serving cell set. The DCI may schedule the DL signal (e.g., a PDSCH) or the UL signal (e.g., a PUSCH) on the one or more serving cells within one serving cell set from the serving cell sets. The DCI may include a third field. The third field may indicate the serving cell set. More specifically, the third field may indicate the set identifier. For example, assuming the third field includes 2 bits, a third field value of '00' may indicate the serving cell set with ID 0, a third field value of '01' may indicate the serving cell set with ID 1, a third field value of '10' may indicate the serving cell set with ID 2, or a third field value of '11' may indicate the serving cell set with ID 3. The DL signal (e.g., a PDSCH) or the UL signal (e.g., a PUSCH) may be scheduled on the one or more serving cells within the indicated serving cell set. The user device 102 may receive the DL signal from the network device 104. The user device 102 may transmit the UL signal to the network device 104.

[0076] In such embodiments, the user device 102 or the network device 104 may be able to determine the communicating behavior (e.g., transmitting an UL signal or receiving a DL signal) in situations where there is overlapping or a gap between the UL signal and the first type of resource, or the second type of resource, or the DL signal is smaller than a certain value. The network device 104 and the user device 102 may have the same understanding on the communicating behavior.

[0077] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may configure the PDCCH monitoring occasion for the user device 102. The user device 102 may monitor for one or more PDCCH candidates (or one or more DCIs) at the PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0078] Additionally, in some embodiments, the UL signal may be or include a dynamically scheduled UL signal, a semi-persistent UL signal, or a periodic UL signal. A dynamically scheduled UL signal may be scheduled by a DCI or a random access response (RAR) . The dynamically scheduled UL signal may include a PUSCH or a PUCCH scheduled by the DCI or the RAR, a SRS scheduled by the DCI, or a PRACH scheduled by the DCI. A semi-persistent UL signal may be activated by a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) or a DCI. The semi-persistent UL signal may include a semi-persistent PUSCH, a semi-persistent PUCCH, or a semi-persistent SRS. A periodic UL signal may be configured by radio resource control (RRC) signaling. The periodic UL signal may include a periodic PUCCH, a periodic PUSCH, or a periodic SRS.

[0079] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to (or may) transmit an UL signal on the OFDM symbols of a PDCCH monitoring. In such embodiments or situations, this PDCCH monitoring occasion (or the OFDM symbols of this PDCCH monitoring occasion) overlaps with the UL signal at least in the time domain, and the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not monitor for PDCCH candidates at this PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to (or may) transmit an UL signal on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after a PDCCH monitoring occasion. In such embodiments or situations, the one or more OFDM symbols before or after this PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with this UL signal at least in the time domain, or a gap between this PDCCH monitoring occasion and the UL signal is smaller than a certain value (e.g., the gap between the starting symbol of this PDCCH monitoring occasion and the ending symbol of this UL signal or the gap between the ending symbol of this PDCCH monitoring occasion and the starting symbol of this UL signal is smaller than the certain value) . Additionally, in such embodiments or situations, the user device 102 may transmit this UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not monitor the PDCCH at this PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some embodiments, the PDCCH monitoring occasion may be associated with a common search space (CSS) or a user device (or UE) -specific search space (USS) . In addition or alternatively, in some embodiments, the PDCCH monitoring occasion may be associated with a search space for a RAR. At the PDCCH monitoring occasion associated with the search space for the RAR, the user device 102 may monitor for the PDCCH (or DCI) candidates that schedules the RAR.

[0080] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit an UL signal on the OFDM symbols of a PDCCH monitoring occasion. In such embodiments or situations, this PDCCH monitoring occasion (or the OFDM symbols of this PDCCH monitoring occasion) overlaps with this UL signal in the time domain, and the user device 102 may not transmit this UL signal (or the user device 102 may cancel this UL signal transmission) and / or the user device 102 may monitor for the PDCCH (or DCI) candidates at this PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit an UL signal on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after a PDCCH monitoring occasion. In such embodiments or situations, the one or more OFDM symbols before or after this PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with this UL signal at least in the time domain, or a gap between this PDCCH monitoring occasion and this UL signal is smaller than a certain value (e.g., the gap between the starting symbol of this PDCCH monitoring occasion and the ending symbol of this UL signal or the gap between the ending symbol of this PDCCH monitoring occasion and the starting symbol of this UL signal is smaller than the certain value) . Additionally, in such embodiments or situations, the user device 102 may not transmit (and / or determine not to transmit) this UL signal and / or the user device 102 may monitor for the PDCCH candidates at this PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some embodiments, the PDCCH monitoring occasion may be associated with a common search space (CSS) or a user device (or UE) -specific search space (USS) . In some embodiments, in the PDCCH monitoring occasion associated with the CSS, the user device 102 may monitor for the PDCCH candidates that may be received by more than one user device 102.

[0081] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may configure a priority for the PDCCH monitoring occasion for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may configure the priority for the UL signal for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments or situations, when the PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with the UL signal at least in the time domain, where the UL signal has a lower priority than the PDCCH monitoring occasion, the user device 102 may not transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may monitor for the PDCCH (or DCI) candidates at the PDCCH monitoring occasion. In addition or alternatively, when the PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with the UL signal at least in the time domain, where the UL signal has a higher priority than the PDCCH monitoring occasion, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not monitor for the PDCCH candidates at the PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0082] Additionally, in some embodiments, a gap between the PDCCH monitoring occasion and the UL signal is smaller than a certain value (e.g., the gap between the starting symbol of the PDCCH monitoring  occasion and the ending symbol of the UL signal or the gap between the ending symbol of the PDCCH monitoring occasion and the starting symbol of the UL signal is smaller than the certain value) . In some of these embodiments, where the UL signal has a lower priority than the PDCCH monitoring occasion, the user device 102 may not transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may monitor for the PDCCH (or DCI) candidates at the PDCCH monitoring occasion. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, where the UL signal has a higher priority than the PDCCH monitoring occasion, the user device 102 may transmit the UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not monitor for the PDCCH candidates at the PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0083] Additionally, in any of various embodiments described herein, a PDCCH monitoring occasion may be associated with a common search space (CSS) or a user device (or UE) -specific search space (USS) .

[0084] Additionally, in some embodiments, a PDCCH monitoring occasion is associated with a search space for paging. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may monitor for PDCCH (or DCI) candidates for receiving paging at the PDCCH monitoring occasion. Such a PDCCH monitoring occasion in these embodiments or situations is also referred to herein as a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion, and a PDCCH that a user device 102 monitors at such a PDCCH monitoring occasion is referred to herein as a paging PDCCH.

[0085] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit an UL signal on the OFDM symbols of a paging PDCCH monitoring occasion or on one or more OFDM symbols before or after the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. In some of these embodiments, the user device may not transmit (and / or determine not to transmit) the UL signal, the user device 102 may cancel the UL signal transmission, and / or the user device 102 may monitor for paging PDCCH candidates at the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion if or in event that the PDCCH paging monitoring occasion or the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with the UL signal at least in the time domain, or a gap between the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion and the UL signal is smaller than a certain value.

[0086] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to transmit a semi-persistent UL signal or a periodic UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. In such embodiments, the user device 102 may not transmit the semi-persistent UL signal or not transmit the periodic UL signal, and / or the user device 102 may monitor for  the paging PDCCH candidates at the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion if the PDCCH paging monitoring occasion or the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with the semi-persistent UL signal or the periodic UL signal at least in the time domain, or if the gap between the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion and the semi-persistent UL signal or the periodic UL signal is smaller than a certain value. In addition or alternatively, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to transmit a dynamically scheduled UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. The user device 102 may transmit the dynamically scheduled UL signal and / or the user device 102 may not monitor for the paging PDCCH candidates at the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion if the PDCCH paging monitoring occasion or the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the PDCCH monitoring occasion overlaps with the dynamically scheduled UL signal at least in the time domain, or the gap between the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion and the dynamically scheduled UL signal is smaller than a certain value.

[0087] Additionally, in some embodiments, the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion may include a first type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion or a second type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion. The user device 102 may monitor for PDCCH (or DCI) candidates at the first type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion. In addition or alternatively, the user device 102 may not monitor for the PDCCH (or DCI) candidates at the second type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion. In addition or alternatively, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may determine the first type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some of these embodiments, all paging PDCCH monitoring occasions having a type other than the first type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion determined by the user device 102 may be considered to have the second type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion. Otherwise stated, all types of paging PDCCH monitoring occasions other than the first type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion may be considered to be or characterized as the second type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0088] Additionally, as used herein a paging occasion (PO) may be a set of paging PDCCH monitoring occasions and may include one or more slots (e.g. a subframe or an OFDM symbol) where a paging PDCCH (or a paging DCI) can be sent. One Paging Frame (PF) may include one radio frame (or system frame) and / or may include one or more PO (s) or one or more starting points of one or more POs. In some embodiments, the user device 102 may first determine its own paging frame (e.g., system frame number (SFN) ) . At least an identification (ID) of the user device 102 may be used by the user device 102 to determine its own paging frame  (e.g., system frame number) . For example, the SFN of the paging frame of the user device 102 may be determined by (NSFN+PFoffset) modTDRX= (TDRX / NP) * (UEIDmodNP) , where NSFN may be the system frame number, PFoffset may be the offset used for PF determination, which may be configured by the network device 104, TDRX may be the discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle, NP may be the number of total paging frames with in one DRX cycle, UEID may be the user device ID of the user device 102. Additionally, the user device 102 may determine its own PO (which may include determining its own, PO index) within its paging frame. At least the user device ID may be used by the user device 102 to determine its own PO (e.g., PO index) within its paging frame. For example, the index of the PO of the user device 102 may be determined by iPO=floor (UEID / NP) modNs, where iPO may be the PO index, Ns may be the number of paging occasions within the paging frame. For the user device 102, the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion included in its PO may be the first type of the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion. Also, for the user device 102, the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion not included in its PO may be the second type of the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0089] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may configure a system information (SI) modification period for the user device 102. In some of these embodiments, within one modification period, the SI does not change. In addition or alternatively, there may be one or more paging PDCCH monitoring occasions within the SI modification period. The network device 104 may indicate that the paging PDCCH monitoring occasion is the first type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion or the second type of paging PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0091] Additionally, in some embodiments, a PDCCH monitoring occasion is associated with a search space for system information (SI) . In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may monitor for PDCCH (or DCI) candidates for receiving SI at the PDCCH monitoring occasion. Such a PDCCH monitoring occasion  is referred to herein as a SI PDCCH monitoring occasion, and the PDCCH that the user device 102 monitors at the PDCCH monitoring occasion is referred to herein as a SI PDCCH.

[0092] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate that the SI is going to change in a next SI modification period. In some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may send a first DCI to the user device 102 in the first SI modification period. The first DCI may indicate that the SI may change at least in the SI modification period next to the first SI modification period. The user device 102 may receive the first DCI from the network device 104. In at least some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to (or may determine not to) transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion in the SI modification period next to the first SI modification period, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. In other of these embodiments, where the user device 102 does not receive the first DCI, the user device 102 may not be able to (or may determine not to) transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion in the SI modification period next to the first SI modification period, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0093] Additionally, in some embodiments involving the first DCI, the first DCI may indicate that the SI may not change at least in the SI modification period next to the first SI modification period. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may receive the first DCI indicating that the SI may not change from the network device 104. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to (or may and / or may determine to) transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion in the SI modification period next to the first SI modification period, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0094] Additionally, in some embodiments, the DCI that schedules a system information block (SIB) other than SIB 6, SIB 7 and / or SIB 8 may be transmitted on the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0095] Additionally, in some embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate that the SI may change in a current SI modification period. In some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may send a second DCI to the user device 102 in the first SI modification period. The second DCI may indicate that the SI may change at least in the first SI modification period. The user device 102 may receive the second DCI from the network device 104. In addition or alternatively, in some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may not be  able to (or may determine not to) transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion in the first SI modification period, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0096] Additionally, in some embodiments involving the second DCI, the second DCI may indicate that the SI may not change at least in the first SI modification period. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may receive the second DCI from the network device 104. The user device 102 may be able to transmit the UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion in the first SI modification period, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0097] Additionally, in some embodiments, the DCI that schedules SIB 6, SIB 7, and / or SIB 8 may be transmitted on the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion.

[0098] Additionally, in some embodiments, a SI PDCCH monitoring occasion may include a first type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or a second type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion. In some of these embodiments, the network device 104 may indicate the SI PDCCH monitoring occasion may be the first type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or the second type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0099] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may not be able to (or may determine not to) transmit a semi-persistent UL signal or a periodic UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the first type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the first type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein. In some of these embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to (or may and / or may determine to) transmit the semi-persistent UL signal or the periodic UL signal on the OFDM symbols of the second type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion or on the one or more OFDM symbols before or after the second type of SI PDCCH monitoring occasion, such as in accordance with the embodiments described herein.

[0100] In such embodiments, the user device 102 or the network device 104 may be able to determine the communicating behavior (e.g., transmitting UL signal or monitoring PDCCH candidate) in situations where there is overlapping, or a gap between the UL signal and the PDCCH monitoring occasion is smaller than a certain value. The network device 104 and the user device 102 may have the same understanding on the communicating behavior.

[0101] In some embodiments, the network 104 may configure the PRACH resource for the user device 102. For example, the network device 104 may configure a first configuration for the user device 102. The first configuration may be used for the UL transmission on the UL sub-band symbols. Additionally, the network device 104 may configure a second configuration for the user device 102. The second configuration may be used for the transmission on the DL symbol, or on the flexible symbol or on the UL symbol. The transmission may include the uplink transmission (e.g., PUSCH transmission or PUCCH transmission) .

[0102] Additionally, in some embodiments, the PRACH resource may include at least one of a first type of PRACH resource or a second type of PRACH resource. In some of these embodiments, the first type of PRACH resource may be on the UL sub-band symbol. The second type of PRACH resource may be on the UL symbol or the flexible symbol. In other of these embodiments, the first type of PRACH resource and the second type resource may be on the flexible symbol or the UL symbol. The first type of PRACH resource and the second type resource may have at least different frequency domain resources (e.g., the different physical resource blocks (PRBs) ) , different time domain resources (e.g., different time units) , and / or different code domain resources (e.g., different preamble sequences) .

[0103] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may transmit the PRACH on the first type of PRACH resource. The subsequent transmission may be on the UL sub-band symbols or on the UL or flexible symbols. When the subsequent transmission is on the UL sub-band symbols, the first configuration may be used for the transmission. Additionally, when the subsequent transmission is on the UL or flexible symbols, the second configuration may be used for the transmission.

[0104] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may receive a DCI that schedules the PDSCH including at least a random access response (RAR) . In some of these embodiments, the DCI or the PDSCH may be transmitted on a DL or flexible symbol or an UL sub-band symbol. In event that the DCI or the PDSCH is transmitted on the UL sub-band symbol, the DCI or the PDSCH may be only transmitted on the DL sub-band. The RAR may schedule a PUSCH transmission. In other of these embodiments, the DCI may schedule at least one PUSCH or the DCI may indicate a PUCCH transmission. In event that the PUSCH or the PUCCH is transmitted on the UL sub-band symbols, the first configuration may be used for the PUSCH transmission or the PUCCH transmission. Also, in event that the PUSCH or the PUCCH is transmitted on the UL or the flexible symbols, the second configuration may be used for the PUSCH transmission or the PUCCH transmission. Alternatively, the DCI or RAR may indicate whether the first configuration or the second configuration is used for the PUCCH transmission or the PUSCH transmission. For example, the RAR or DCI may include one bit  with a first value indicating that the first configuration is used for the PUCCH transmission or the PUSCH transmission, and with a second value indicating that the second configuration is used for the PUCCH transmission or the PUSCH transmission.

[0105] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may transmit the PRACH on the second type of PRACH resource. The subsequent transmission may only be on the UL or the flexible symbols. The second configuration may be used for the subsequent transmission.

[0106] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may receive the DCI that schedules the PDSCH including at least a random access response (RAR) . The DCI or the PDSCH may only be transmitted on the DL or flexible symbol. The RAR may schedule a PUSCH transmission. Alternatively, the DCI may schedule at least one PUSCH or the DCI may indicate a PUCCH transmission. The PUSCH or the PUCCH may be only transmitted on the UL and / or flexible symbols. The second configuration may be used for the PUSCH transmission or the PUCCH transmission.

[0107] In such embodiments, the user device 102 may be able to determine which configuration is used for the transmission and the transmission may have a different configuration.

[0108] Additionally, in some embodiments, the user device 102 may send at least one PUSCH to the network device 104. The PUSCH may be transmitted on the UL sub-band OFDM symbols, UL symbols, or flexible symbols. In addition or alternatively, the PUSCH may carry at least a power headroom report (PHR) medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) . The PHR MAC CE may include one or more power headroom (PH) . The PH may include at least one of a first type of PH or a second type of PH. The first type of PH may be determined (or calculated) based on a first waveform or the configuration related to the first waveform. The first waveform may be in the form of an OFDM signal. The second type of PH may be determined (or calculated) based on a second waveform or the configuration related to the second waveform. The second waveform may be in the form of a Discrete Fourier Transform-Spread-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) signal.

[0109] Additionally, in some embodiments, the PHR MAC CE may include at least a first field. The first field may indicate the PH is the first type of PH or the second type of PH. Alternatively, the PHR MAC CE may include several first fields. Each first field may correspond to a PH. Each first field may indicate that the corresponding PH is the first type of PH or the second type of PH. The first value of the first field (e.g., value  '0' ) may indicate that the corresponding PH is the first type of PH. The second value of the first field (e.g., value '1' ) may indicate that the corresponding PH is the second type of PH.

[0110] Additionally, in some embodiments, the PHR MAC CE may include at least one of an actual PH or an assumed PH. The PHR MAC CE may include at least a second field. The second field may indicate whether the assumed PH is included in the PHR MAC CE. Each first field may correspond to one actual PH or one assumed PH. The first field may indicate the corresponding actual PH or assumed PH is determined based on the first waveform or the second waveform. For example, the first value of the first field (e.g., value '0' ) may indicate that the corresponding actual PH or assumed PH is determined based on the first waveform. The second value of the first field (e.g., value '1' ) may indicate that the corresponding actual PH or the assumed PH is determined based on the second waveform.

[0111] Additionally, in some embodiments, with the indication of the first field, the network device 104 may be able to know which waveform is used by the user device 102 to determine the PH in the PHR MAC CE reported by the user device 102.

[0112] The description and accompanying drawings above provide specific example embodiments and implementations. The described subject matter may, however, be embodied in a variety of different forms and, therefore, covered or claimed subject matter is intended to be construed as not being limited to any example embodiments set forth herein. A reasonably broad scope for claimed or covered subject matter is intended. Among other things, for example, subject matter may be embodied as methods, devices, components, systems, or non-transitory computer-readable media for storing computer codes. Accordingly, embodiments may, for example, take the form of hardware, software, firmware, storage media or any combination thereof. For example, the method embodiments described above may be implemented by components, devices, or systems including memory and processors by executing computer codes stored in the memory.

[0113] Throughout the specification and claims, terms may have nuanced meanings suggested or implied in context beyond an explicitly stated meaning. Likewise, the phrase “in one embodiment / implementation” as used herein does not necessarily refer to the same embodiment and the phrase “in another embodiment / implementation” as used herein does not necessarily refer to a different embodiment. It is intended, for example, that claimed subject matter includes combinations of example embodiments in whole or in part.

[0114] In general, terminology may be understood at least in part from usage in context. For example, terms, such as “and” , “or” , or “and / or, ” as used herein may include a variety of meanings that may depend at least in part on the context in which such terms are used. Typically, “or” if used to associate a list, such as A, B or C, is intended to mean A, B, and C, here used in the inclusive sense, as well as A, B or C, here used in the exclusive sense. In addition, the term “one or more” as used herein, depending at least in part upon context, may be used to describe any feature, structure, or characteristic in a singular sense or may be used to describe combinations of features, structures or characteristics in a plural sense. Similarly, terms, such as “a, ” “an, ” or “the, ” may be understood to convey a singular usage or to convey a plural usage, depending at least in part upon context. In addition, the term “based on” may be understood as not necessarily intended to convey an exclusive set of factors and may, instead, allow for existence of additional factors not necessarily expressly described, again, depending at least in part on context.

[0115] Reference throughout this specification to features, advantages, or similar language does not imply that all of the features and advantages that may be realized with the present solution should be or are included in any single implementation thereof. Rather, language referring to the features and advantages is understood to mean that a specific feature, advantage, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present solution. Thus, discussions of the features and advantages, and similar language, throughout the specification may, but do not necessarily, refer to the same embodiment.

[0116] Furthermore, the described features, advantages and characteristics of the present solution may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments. One of ordinary skill in the relevant art will recognize, in light of the description herein, that the present solution can be practiced without one or more of the specific features or advantages of a particular embodiment. In other instances, additional features and advantages may be recognized in certain embodiments that may not be present in all embodiments of the present solution.
