[0004] This patent document discloses methods on how to use beam results predicted by artificial intelligence (AI) and / or machine learning (ML) . A base station (BS) indicates whether and how the predicted beam results are used for a function. However, if a failure occurs, a user equipment (UE) stops applying the predicated beam results, deactivates the active AI / ML functionality or model, and / or starts to collect data for AI / ML functionality or model training, testing, validation, or performance monitoring. The methods, among other benefits, can improve the efficiency of beam management.

[0005] A first example wireless communication method includes configuring, by a network device, at least one of the following: whether a predicted result associated with a beam or a reference signal (RS) can be used for a function; which beam’s predicted result is used for a function; or a margin that is applied when a predicted result is used for a function.

[0006] A second example wireless communication method includes determining, by a wireless device, that a failure occurs or a first condition is met. The method further includes performing, by the wireless device and based on the determination, at least one of the following: stopping using a predicated result associated with a beam or a reference signal (RS) for a function; deactivating an active artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) functionality or model that outputs a predicted result; switching to an AI or ML functionality or model; or starting to collect data.

[0007] A third example wireless communication method includes receiving, by a wireless device, a condition for a data collection. The method further includes determining, by the wireless device and based on the condition, whether to perform the data collection.

[0008] A fourth example wireless communication method includes determining, by a wireless device, a prediction accuracy of a predicted result associated with a beam or a reference signal (RS) . The method further includes determining, by the wireless device and based on the prediction accuracy, whether to record or report a collected data.

[0009] Note that where the patent document discloses a method of transmitting an information by a first device to a second device, it will be understood that a method of receiving the information by the second device from the first device is also disclosed. Similarly, where a method of receiving a message by a first device from a second device is disclosed, it will be understood that the message is transmitted by the second device to the first device.

[0020] I. Introduction

[0021] The present patent document discloses whether and how beam results predicted by artificial intelligence (AI) and / or machine learning (ML) are used for an indicated, configured, or specified function. The present patent document also discloses operations to be performed when failures occur. The methods, among other benefits, can improve the efficiency of beam management.

[0022] The convergence of communication network and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is progressing based on work done in previous releases on AI-enabled network architecture and leveraging AI / Machine Learning (ML) to enable 5GC and air interface intelligence in terms of data collection, ML model training, analytic inference, and closed-loop procedures by consuming data analytic, etc. AI / ML for NR air interface is being discussed in 3GPP. The discussions include data collection from UE for ML model training, support of a common 5GS AI / ML framework to enable AI / ML Radio.

[0023] Currently, the study in 3GPP focus on potential enhancements to enable AI / ML for beam management. During the study, BM-Case1 (Spatial-domain downlink beam prediction) and BM-Case2 (Temporal downlink beam prediction) are selected.

[0024] BM-Case1: Spatial-domain Downlink beam prediction for Set A of beams based on measurement results of Set B of beams. The AI / ML model training and inference may be at NW side or UE side. Set A and Set B are different, or Set B is a subset of Set A. AI / ML model input may be L1-RSRP measurement based on Set B, L1-RSRP measurement based on Set B and assistance information, or CIR based on Set B, or L1-RSRP measurement based on Set B and the corresponding DL Tx and / or Rx beam ID.

[0025] BM-Case2: Temporal Downlink beam prediction for Set A of beams based on the historic measurement results of Set B of beams. The AI / ML model training and inference is at NW side or UE side. Set A and Set B are different (Set B is NOT a subset of Set A) , or Set B is a subset of Set A (Set A and Set B are not the same) , or Set A and Set B are the same. The AI / ML model input may be measurement results of K (K≥1) latest measurement instances with the following alternatives: Alt. 1) : Only L1-RSRP measurement based on Set B; Alt 2) : L1-RSRP measurement based on Set B and assistance information; Alt. 3) : L1-RSRP measurement based on Set B and the corresponding DL Tx and / or Rx beam ID. F predictions for F future time instances can be obtained based on the output of AI / ML model, where each prediction is for each time instance. At least F=1.

[0026] A lot of issues regarding the AI / ML based functionality is waiting for resolution, e.g., application of the predicted results (output of AI / ML functionality / model based on input data) , and the conditions for data collection for AI / ML model’s training, testing, validation, or performance monitoring. In this patent document, we provide some solutions to resolve above mentioned issues.

[0027] In all embodiment of this patent document, the predicted result refers to the output of an artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) function or AI / ML model. The predicted result of set A of beams are the output of an AI / ML function of AI / ML model based on the measurement results of set B of beams.

[0028] In this patent document, UE performs measurement on the RS transmitted on a beam to evaluate the quality of the beam. So the predicted results of a beam also means the predicted result of a RS, or vise visa.

[0029] In this patent document, the prediction results or predicted result refer to the inference results of AI / ML functionality or AI / ML model.

[0030] II. Embodiment 1

[0031] Embodiment 1 describes application of predicated results.

[0032] This embodiment is about how to apply the predicted results of DL beams / reference signals in various functions.

[0033] - BS may configure whether predicted results can be used for a function of following:

[0034] - Beam failure detection (BFD) function

[0035] - Beam failure recovery (BFR) function

[0036] - Radio link failure (RLF) detection

[0037] - RACH resource selection

[0038] - Beam selection for paging / SI message / reception

[0039] - SSB selection for CG based small data transmission (SDT)

[0040] - L3 cell level quality derivation

[0041] - L3 beam quality derivation

[0042] BS may configure which beam’s predicted result can be used for the one or more of the various functions.

[0043] BS may configure a margin that is applied when predicted result is used for the one or more of the various functions. UE may indicate the accuracy of the AI / ML functionality / model. The BS may determine the margin based on the accuracy indicated by UE.

[0044] Previously, the functions are performed based on measurement results of downlink beams / reference signals.

[0045] This embodiment provides methods on how perform these functions based on the predicted results of beams.

[0046] In this embodiment:

[0047] The BS may configure whether predicted results can be used for a or more functions by including an indicator in cell’s system information or in a dedicate RRC message, or in a MAC CE, or a DCI.

[0048] The indicator may indicate whether predicted result of a beam or reference signal can be used for the indicated function (s) .

[0049] If the margin is configured, when predicted result of a beam is used for a function, the margin is also considered along with the predicted result of the beam. E.g., the quality of the beam is considered as (predicted result + the margin) , or (predicted result -the margin) . The predicted result may be RSRP, RSRQ, or SINR of the beam. The margin may be a RSRQP, or RSRQ, or SINR margin. The margin may be indicated in system information, or a RRC message, or a MAC CE, or a DCI.

[0050] UE may indicate the accuracy information of an AI / ML functionality or AI / ML model that is used for beam prediction. The accuracy information may include one of following:

[0051] - The probability of the output result is within N1 dB of the measurement results.

[0052] - The probability of predicted best beam is within the top N2 beams according to measured results.

[0053] - The probability of predicted top N3 beams includes the best beam according to measured results.

[0054] - The probability of predicted the beast beam is the best beam according to measured results.

[0055] The BS may configure RSRP / RSRQ / SINR margin based on the accuracy reported by UE.

[0056] To configure which beam’s predicted result can be used for the indicated functions:

[0057] The BS may configure that only predicted top N beams’ predicted result can be used for the indicated functions. The BS configure this by including an indicator, or a value of N in system information, or a RRC message, or a MAC CE, or a DCI. If this is configured, UE only consider to use the top N predicted beam results for the indicated functions.

[0058] The BS may configure that only predicted result larger than a threshold can be used for indicated functions. The BS configure this by indicating the threshold. The threshold may be RSRP, or RSRQ, or SINR threshold.

[0059] The BS may configure a list of beams for which predicted results can be used for the indicated function (s) .

[0060] As a specific example:

[0061] The BS may indicate in system information following configuration:

[0062] Indicates that predicted results of beam can be used for RACH resource selection and beam failure recovery procedure.

[0063] Indicates that predicted results of beam cannot be used for RLF detection function.

[0064] Indication that top N predicted beams’ predicted results can be used for RACH resource selection and beam failure recovery.

[0065] A RSRP margin for the predicted results of beams.

[0066] Then UE determines the beam (s) corresponding to the top N predicted results, and perform beam selection based on predicted results of the determined beams. In evaluating the quality of a beam, the configured RSRP margin is considered by minus the margin from the predicted results of the beam (i.e., predicted RSRP -RSRP margin) .

[0067] UE may perform beam failure evaluation based on the predicted result of one of the predicted top N beams. When evaluating the quality of the beam, the configure RSRP margin is also considered, e.g., UE consider (predicted result -configured RSRP margin) as the quality of the beam.

[0068] The following parts are more methods specific for a specific function. Methods provided above are also applicable.

[0069] For BFD function:

[0070] BS may configure a list of reference signal for which predicted results can be used for beam failure detection function. UE performs beam failure detection based on the predicted results of the configured beams.

[0071] In NR, a BS configures a list of reference signals (RS) for beam failure detection (BFD) . If it is not provided by BS, the UE may use the RS (s) corresponding to the activated TCI state for PDCCH (Physical Downlink Control Channel) reception. In NR, the RS for BFD may be configured for each DL BWP. The TCI state for PDCCH reception on the CORESET on the active DL BWP. The UE may declare a beam failure status when a number of beam failure instance indications from the physical layer reaches a configured threshold before a configured timer expires.

[0072] In this embodiment:

[0073] The BS may indicate one or more RS which is configured in the list of RS for BFD, and for which predicted results can be used in BFD function. The BS may indicate the index of the RS, e.g., SSB index or CSI-RS index, or an ID used to identify a RS used for BFD (e.g. in NR, the ID is RadioLinkMonitoringRS) , or include an indicator in each entry of the list of RS for BFD.

[0074] The BS may configure another list of RS for BFD. The predicted results of each RS in the list can be used for BFD functions. when the another list of RS for BFD is configured, the UE may perform BFD only based on the RS in this list, or the UE may perform BFD based on both the RS in this list and the RS configured in legacy RS for BFD.

[0075] Or for determination of whether to declare beam failure.

[0076] BS may configure threshold or threshold offset that is used when predicted results are applied for BFD function. UE applies the threshold or threshold offset for BFD function.

[0077] When evaluating beam quality of a RS for BFD with predicted result of the RS, the configured threshold or threshold offset is applied.

[0078] If the threshold is configured, it is a separate configuration from the legacy threshold that is applied when measured result of the RS is used in BFD functions. The UE evaluate the RS base on the configured threshold.

[0079] If the threshold offset if configured, when predicted result is used in BFD procedure, the UE evaluates the RS quality based on the threshold offset and the legacy threshold. As a specific example, the UE compares the predicted RS results with (the threshold offset + legacy threshold) when evaluating the quality of the RS.

[0080] For BFR functions, BS may configure one or more beam for which predicted results can be used for candidate beam selection for BFR functions.

[0081] BS may configure a threshold or threshold offset that is applied when predicted result is used for BFR functions.

[0082] Previously:

[0083] After a beam failure is detected on the PCell, the UE may trigger beam failure recovery by initiating a Random Access (RACH) procedure on the serving cell. The UE may include an indication of a beam failure on the PCell in a BFR MAC CE (Medium Access Control Control element) if the RACH procedure involves contention-based random access procedure.

[0084] After beam failure is detected on an SCell, the UE may trigger a beam failure recovery procedure in which UE transmits a BFR MAC CE for this SCell. The UE may select a suitable / candidate beam for this SCell (if available) and indicate the identity of the beam along with the information about the beam failure in the BFR MAC CE. The indicated beam in the MAC CE is selected from a candidate beam list that is configured by BS. The indicated beam is  selected based on the comparison between the measurement results of the corresponding beam and a configure threshold.

[0085] In this embodiment, said BFR functions include at least one of following:

[0086] 1. When UE initiating a RACH procedure for BFR, the UE selects one or more beams from a list of candidate beams, and selects RACH resource based on the selected candidate beams. In NR, this function is applied when beam failure is declared in PCell or PSCell.

[0087] 2. Selecting one or more candidate beams, and indicate to BS the selected candidate beams information. In NR, this function is performed when beam failure is declared for a SCell. The selected candidate beam’s information is indicated to BS by transmitting a MAC CE to the BS.

[0088] If the RS configures the beams for which predicted result can be used for candidate beam selection, the UE may apply the predicted result of the beam when selecting candidate beam.

[0089] The BS may configure the list of beams by one of following method besides the method list above:

[0090] 1. The BS configures a list of beams. Each entry of the list includes an identity of a beam. The beam is also configured in the candidate beam list for BFR.

[0091] 2. The BS configures a list of beam indexes, each entry of the list is an index which refers to an entry in the candidate beam list for BFR.

[0092] 3. The BS configures another list of candidate beams for BFR, which includes beams for which predicted results can be used for BFR functions.

[0093] If the RS configures a threshold or threshold offset that is applied when predicted result is used for BFR functions, the UE perform candidate beam selection based on the threshold or threshold offset.

[0094] If BS configure the threshold, the UE compares the predicted result of a candidate beam against the threshold instead of the legacy threshold that is applied when measured result is used for BFR functions.

[0095] If BS configures the threshold offset, the UE compares the predicted results of a candidate beam against the combination of the threshold offset and a legacy threshold, e.g. legacy threshold + threshold offset.

[0096] UE may indicate BS that whether a selected candidate beam is based on predicted result.

[0097] The UE may indicate:

[0098] 1. A list of selected candidate beams that are selected based on predicted result.

[0099] 2. A flag to indicate that part or all selected candidate beams are selected based on predicted result.

[0100] 3. A flag for each selected candidate beam to indicate whether the corresponding beam is selected based on predicted result.

[0101] The UE may indicate this in the BFR MAC CE, or a RRC message, or a PUCCH signaling.

[0102] For RACH resource selection, BS may configure the RS / beam for which predicted result can be used for RACH resource selection. BS may configure a threshold which is applied when predicted result of a beam is used for RACH resource selection.

[0103] Previously, RACH resource selection may be based on the quality of downlink beam / RS. UE select a beam according to the measured result of DL beams and a threshold.

[0104] In this embodiment, if BS configures the beam for which predicted results can be used for RACH resource selection, the UE may use the predicted results the configured BS for RACH resource selection.

[0105] The BS may configure the beam with one of following method:

[0106] - To indicate a list of beams index

[0107] - To indicate a bitmap which each bit represents a beam / RS. E.g., each bit represent a SSB.

[0108] - To indicate that predicted top N beams can be candidate beam for RACH resource selection

[0109] - To indicate that predicted top N beams for which predicted results can be used for RACH resource selection.

[0110] BS may configure a separate threshold or a threshold offset used for RO selection when predicted results is used. When the threshold or threshold offset is configured, the UE applies threshold or threshold offset in RACH resource selection.

[0111] The BS may indicate whether the method of this embodiment is applied or not for a purpose for which the RACH procedure is initiated. E.g., BS may indicate it is applied for RACH procedure initiated for SDT, beam failure recovery, but not applied for SI request.

[0112] For RLF detection, SI message reception, paging message reception:

[0113] The BS may configure a list of SSB for which predicted results can be used in SSB selection for SI message / paging message reception, or evaluation of the corresponding beam for RLF detection.

[0114] The BS may configure that only predicted top N beams can be selected based on its predicted results for SI message / paging message reception.

[0115] The BS may configure a RSRP threshold which is used when UE select SSB for SI message / paging message reception based on predicted results.

[0116] The BS may configure a RSRP threshold which is used when UE evaluating quality of a beam for RLF detection.

[0117] For SDT resource selection:

[0118] Previously, BS may configure Configured Grant (CG) based Small Data Transmission (SDT) . Each CG resource configure a configured uplink grant and is associated with a list of SSB. When UE used the CG resource for small data transmission, the UE select a SSB based on the configured list of SSB and a configured RSRP threshold. More specifically, UE selects an SSB with SS-RSRP above (configured) cg-SDT-RSRP-ThresholdSSB among the SSB(s) associated with the configured uplink grant.

[0119] In this embodiment:

[0120] The BS may configure a subset of the list of SSB which is associated with a configured grant configuration. The predicted results of the subset SSBs can be used in SSB selection for CG based SDT.

[0121] The BS may configure a RSRP threshold which is used when UE select SSB for SDT based on predicted results.

[0122] With the method provided in this embodiment, the BS can configure for which functions the predicted results of beam can be applied. And how to apply the predicted results for these functions. Further, the BS can configure the beam  / reference signal for which the predicted results can be used for a specific procedure when evaluating the quality of the beam / RS. This method provides a fine granular control over the UE behavior on applying the predicted results.

[0123] III. Embodiment 2

[0124] Embodiment 2 describes conditions to deactivating AI model and predicted results and start / stop data collection.

[0125] This embodiment is about stopping applying predicted results, deactivating / switching AI / ML functionality or model, and / or starting / stopping data collection when a specific condition is fulfilled.

[0126] In case a failure occurs in UE side, UE may perform one of following the first actions:

[0127] - Stop using predicated results of beams for functions as indicate in embodiment 1.

[0128] - Deactivating the active AI / ML model or AI / ML functionality which outputs predicted results.

[0129] - Switching to another AI / ML model.

[0130] - Start to collect data.

[0131] The failure includes one of following:

[0132] - Failure during radio link detection

[0133] - Failure during beam failure detection

[0134] - Failure during RACH

[0135] - Failure during Handover procedure

[0136] - Failure during SDT procedure

[0137] - Failure in performance monitoring for a AI / ML functionality or AI / ML model

[0138] The UE may perform one of the following second actions in case the previous failure is recovered or handled, or a configured condition is not fulfilled.

[0139] - Begin to use predicated results of beams for functions as listed in embodiment 1.

[0140] - Activate the AI / ML model or AI / ML functionality that is deactivated upon failure occurrence.

[0141] - Stops to collect data.

[0142] The UE may indicate to BS the application of predicted results of beams, or status of the AI / ML model when failure occurs, or after failure is recovered or handled. The UE may indicate to BS whether predicted results of beams are used when the failure occurs or used in the failure detection procedure.

[0143] BS may indicate UE to activate a AI / ML functionality or a AI / ML model, or starts to use predicted results of beams, or start data collection, or stop data collection upon reception of the indication.

[0144] The data collected in this embodiment may be used for model training, model validation, testing or performance monitoring. BS may configure the duration, interval or number of data for the data collection.

[0145] UE may apply the method in this embodiment if predicted results of beams are used when the failure occurs or in the failure detection procedure.

[0146] The collected data may include the data that include the predicted results that results in the failure, or the predicted results that are used during the failure, or the predicted results used in the failure detection procedure.

[0147] UE may perform data collection according to the configured data collection configurations.

[0148] The data collection configuration may include one of following:

[0149] - The Length of a duration, during which the UE perform data collect.

[0150] - Interval of data collection.

[0151] - Maximum number of data to be collected.

[0152] The collected data includes at least one of following content:

[0153] - The information of set A of beam, including beam identification, or measurement result, or ranking information (the order of the beam when all beams of set A are ranked) , whether the beam is the best beam, whether the beam is within N dB of the best beam.

[0154] - The predicted results of beams of set A, if predicted results of set A is used.

[0155] - The information of set B of beam, and measurement results.

[0156] - The information of whether predicted result or measured result is used for a specific beam.

[0157] - The information of the model that generate the predicted results of beams.

[0158] The UE may indicate to BS the availability of the collected data.

[0159] The UE may transmit the collected data to BS.

[0160] The BS may indicate whether UE apply the method in this embodiment via system information, RRC message, MAC CE, or DCI.

[0161] For RLF:

[0162] Previously: In NR, upon receiving N310 consecutive out-of-sync indications from a physical layer, the UE starts a radio problem timer (T310) . When timer T310 is running, upon receiving N311 consecutive in-sync indication from the physical layer, the UE stops timer T310. Upon T310 expiry, the UE declares RLF. The value of N310, N311, T310 may be configured by a BS to the UE via an RRC message with the IE (Information element) RLF-TimersAndConstants. N310 may define the maximum number of consecutive “out-of-sync” indications received from lower layers for the PCell. N311 may define maximum number of consecutive “in-sync” indications received from lower layers for the PCell.

[0163] When RLF is declared, the UE may select a suitable cell and then initiate an RRC re-establishment procedure. The UE may enter an RRC_IDLE state if a suitable cell was not found within a certain time after the RLF was declared.

[0164] In this embodiment:

[0165] When a configured first number of consecutive out-of-sync indication are received from physical layer, or when timer T310 is started, or when RLF is declared, the UE performs one of the first actions.

[0166] When a configured second number of consecutive in-sync indication are received from physical layer, or when timer T310 is stopped, the UE performs at least one of the second actions.

[0167] The BS may configure the value of the first number of consecutive out-of-sync indication, and the value of the second number of consecutive in-sync indication.

[0168] In case RLF is declared, in the RRC re-establishment complete message, or a RRC message after RRC re-establishment, or a MAC CE, the UE indicate to BS that there is availability of the collected data, or whether or which beam’s predicted results are used for detection of the RLF.

[0169] In case RLF is not declared, in a RRC message, or a MAC CE, the UE indicate to BS that there is availability of the collected data, or whether or which beam’s predicted results are used for detection of the RLF.

[0170] If UE performs data collection in this procedure, the collected data includes the data that include the predicted results are used for detection of the RLF.

[0171] In case of a MAC reset, all models are deactivated.

[0172] For beam failure:

[0173] Previously: In NR, after received a beam failure instance indication from lower layers of a serving cell, UE starts or restarts a beam failure detection timer for the serving cell, and increase a beam failure counter by one. In case the beam failure detection timer expires, the UE reset the beam failure counter to zero. If the beam failure counter is larger than or equal to a configured beam failure instance maximum count, UE regards beam failure occurs.

[0174] When beam failure occurs, the UE may initiate BFR procedure by initiate a RACH for BFR if the serving cell is PCell or PSCell, or send a MAC CE to BS if the serving cell is SCell. If the serving cell is PSCell and SCG is deactivated, UE indicates beam failure to RRC layer. UE may indicate to BS that beam failure occurs in PSCell.

[0175] UE consider the Beam Failure Recovery procedure successfully completed and reset the beam failure counter to zero. in following cases:

[0176] If the Serving Cell is PCell or PSCell, and the Random Access procedure initiated for BFR is successfully completed, If the Serving Cell is SCell, and a PDCCH addressed to C-RNTI indicating uplink grant for a new transmission is received for the HARQ process used for the transmission of the MAC CE for BFR which contains beam failure recovery information of this Serving Cell.

[0177] In this embodiment:

[0178] When a beam failure instance indication from lower layer is received, or beam failure detection timer is started or restated, or the beam failure detection counter is larger than or equal to a configure beam failure instance maximum count or a configured threshold, or UE regards beam failure occurs in the serving cell, the UE performs at least one of the first actions for the serving cell.

[0179] When UE regards Beam Failure Recovery procedure is successfully completed, or the beam failure detection timer expires, the UE performs at least one of the second actions for the serving cell.

[0180] In case BFR procedure is performed, the UE indicates to BS the availability of collected data, and / or or whether or which beam’s predicted results are used for detection of the beam failure, in the BFR MAC CE, or in a RRC message after BFR procedure is successfully completed.

[0181] If UE performs data collection in this procedure, the collected data includes the data that include the predicted results are used for detection of the beam failure.

[0182] For RACH failure:

[0183] In random access procedure, there are cases that RACH procedure is unsuccessfully completed, or random access problem occurs. For example, in a contention based RACH, if Random Access Response reception is not successful, or Contention Resolution is considered not successful, the UE may increase a counter by one. If the counter is larger than a configured maximum count, the UE regards the RACH procedure unsuccessfully completed. Else, the UE initiating another preamble transmission to continue the RACH procedure.

[0184] In this embodiment:

[0185] When a RACH procedure is unsuccessfully completed, or random access problem occurs, or a Random Access Response reception is not successful, or a Contention Resolution is considered not successful, or the number of transmission of preamble reaches a configured threshold, the UE performs at least one of the first actions.

[0186] When UE has performed one of the first actions, and the RACH procedure is considered successful completed, or a Random Access Response reception is successful, or a Contention Resolution is considered successful, the UE performs at least one of the second actions.

[0187] In this case, UE may indicate to BS the availability of collected data in the a MAC CE, or in a RRC message.

[0188] The UE may indicate BS of the information of the beam based on which the RACH resource is selected. The information may include the Index of the beam, and whether the predicted result of the beam is used for RACH resource selection.

[0189] If UE performs data collection in this procedure, the collected data includes the data that include the predicted results are used for RACH resource selection.

[0190] For Handover failure:

[0191] Previously:

[0192] The UE start time T304 in one of following case:

[0193] - Upon reception of handover command message (e.g., RRCReconfiguration message including reconfigurationWithSync in NR) for the MCG (master cell group) .

[0194] - Upon reception handover command message for the SCG (secondary cell group) .

[0195] - Upon conditional reconfiguration execution, i.e., when applying a stored handover command message.

[0196] - For the MCG and SCG upon an indication from lower layer that an LTM cell switch procedure is triggered and, for the MCG, upon performing an LTM cell switch procedure following cell selection performed while timer T311 is running.

[0197] When the timer T304 expires, UE regards the handover is failed, and:

[0198] For T304 of MCG, in case of the handover from NR or intra-NR handover, or a handover without performing random access procedure, or an LTM cell switch procedure, the UE initiate the RRC re-establishment procedure.

[0199] For T304 of SCG, inform network about the reconfiguration with sync failure by initiating the SCG failure information procedure.

[0200] In this embodiment, in addition to the behavior list above, when timer T304 expires, UE performs at least one of the first actions for the serving cell of MCG for T304 of MSG expires, or the serving cell of SCG if T304 of SCG expires.

[0201] The UE may start data collection for the serving of the MCG if T304 of MCG expires, or the serving cell of SCG if T304 of SCG expires.

[0202] If UE performs data collection in this procedure, the collected data includes the data that include the predicted results are used during the handover procedure.

[0203] After RRC re-establishment procedure is completed successfully, UE may indicate to BS beam whether or which beam’s predicted result is used during handover.

[0204] For conditions related to performance monitoring of AI / ML functionality or model:

[0205] The performance monitoring is used to monitor performance of the activated or deactivated AI / ML functionality or model based on the like level performance metrics or the metrics based on the output of AI / ML functionality or model.

[0206] The link level performance metric may include the BLER (block error rate) , or the throughput in UE side. The BS may configure the BLER threshold, or throughput threshold. If the measured BLER or throughput in UE side fails to meet the performance condition / requirement, i.e., measured BLER is larger than the BLER threshold, or measured throughput is smaller than the throughput threshold, the UE perform at least one of the first actions. If measured BLER becomes smaller than the BLER threshold again, and / or and measured throughput becomes larger than the throughput threshold again, the UE perform at at least one of the second actions.

[0207] The metrics based on the output of AI / ML functionality or AI / ML model include one or more of following:

[0208] - The number, probability or ratio of Predicted result is within N1 dB of the measurement results.

[0209] - The number, probability or ratio of Predicted best beam is within the top N2 beams of the measured results.

[0210] - The number, probability or ratio of Predicted top N3 beams includes the best beam of the measured results.

[0211] - The number, probability or ratio of Predicted beast beam is the best beam of the measured results.

[0212] The number, radio and probability of each metrics may be calculated based on the predicted results that are generated during a period of time. The period of time may be configured with a periodicity and the period of time occurs periodically. The period of time may be a period of time before a specific time point, e.g., when calculating the number, probability or ratio.

[0213] The BS may configure the length of the time period.

[0214] The BS may configure the value of N1, N2, or N3.

[0215] The BS may configure number threshold, probability threshold or radio threshold for the accuracy metrics.

[0216] When the one or more of the probabilities as listed above is larger than the configured probability threshold, or one or more of the ratio as listed above are larger than the configured ratio threshold, or one or more of the numbers as listed above are larger than the configured number threshold, the UE performs at least one of the first actions, especially start to perform data collection.

[0217] When the one or more of the probabilities as listed above become smaller than the configured probability threshold, or one or more of the ratio as listed above become smaller than the configured ratio threshold, or one or more of the numbers as listed above becomes smaller than the configured number threshold again, the UE performs at least one of the second actions.

[0218] If UE performs data collection in this procedure, the collected data include the data used for performance monitoring, or the predicted results that are used for performance  monitoring metrics calculation, or the data collected during the time period of performance monitoring, or the data collected within the said period of time.

[0219] With the methods provided in this embodiment, when failure occurs in a serving cell, the UE stops using predicted results, or switch to another AI / ML model. The UE resumes using the predicted results of beams when failure is recovered or handled, or indicated by BS. Thus in case failure occurs, the predicted results which is inferred by a AI / ML model is not applied based on the assumption that the failure may be caused by the inaccuracy output of the AI / ML model. When failure is handled or recovered, the UE continues to use the predicted results or activate the deactivated AI / ML model if network indicates so.

[0220] In addition, the UE starts to collect data when failure occurs for AI / ML model training, validation, testing, or performance monitoring. This method is based on the assumption that in case failure occurs, accuracy of the AI / ML model is not good enough. Thus the data collected during the failure is worthy to be collected for re-tuning the AI / ML model.

[0221] IV. Embodiment 3

[0222] Embodiment 3 describes conditions for performing data collection.

[0223] This embodiment is about the conditions for data collection.

[0224] Network node configures UE a set of conditions for data collection.

[0225] Network node may configure whether to perform or not perform data collection when one or more the conditions are fulfilled.

[0226] Network node may configure whether to perform or not perform data collection when one or more of the conditions are not fulfilled.

[0227] The UE performs or not perform data collection according to the configuration.

[0228] If data collection is performed, in the collected data, the UE may record the information related to the associated condition (s) . The associated condition is the one or more of configured conditions that are fulfilled when collecting the data.

[0229] The UE may indicate to Network node the availability of collected data and associated condition (s) .

[0230] The Network node may request the collected data that is associated with one or more conditions.

[0231] The application conditions include at least one of following or the combination of the one or more conditions:

[0233] - Code book related conditions.

[0234] - UE orientation change related conditions.

[0235] - UE’s mobility information, including UE’s speed, or static, low speed, high speed condition that specified in specification. UE’s mobility may be in vertical direction or horizontal direction.

[0236] The collected at least is used for AI / ML model training, testing, validation, or performance monitoring.

[0237] The network node in this embodiment may be BS, or OAM serving, or a core network node, or an OTT (over the top) server. In different steps in this embodiment, the network node be different.

[0238] Height related condition specify the height range in which UE perform data collection. The height information may include at least of following:

[0239] - A height range

[0240] - A min height threshold

[0241] - A max height threshold

[0242] - Height hysteresis

[0243] The UE perform data collection in the configured height range as indicated by the height information, or UE stops  / don’ t perform data collection in the configured height range.

[0244] In the data collected when UE is in the height range, the UE record the associated height condition’s information.

[0245] The code book related condition may include at least of following:

[0246] - The identity of code book configuration.

[0247] - Code book type, e.g., type 1, type 2 as defined in specification.

[0248] - Code book sub type, e.g., typeI-SinglePanel, typeI-MultiPanel, type II as specified in specification.

[0249] - Code book mode.

[0250] - Code book parameters related to number of beam, number of panels, restrictions, number of antenna ports, as defined in specification.

[0251] A network node may configure whether to perform or not perform data collection when configured code book related conditions is fulfilled. If UE current used code book fulfills the configured code book related conditions, UE performs data collection or not perform data collection according to network node’s configuration.

[0252] If data collection is performed when configured code book related conditions are fulfilled, the UE may record the code book condition related information in the collected data.

[0253] The orientation related condition may include at least one of following:

[0254] - Maximum value of orientation change. E.g., if the angle between the initial orientation of the UE and current orientation of the UE is smaller than a configured threshold.

[0255] - Minimum value of UE orientation change. E.g., if the angle between the initial orientation of the UE and current orientation of the UE is larger than the configured threshold.

[0256] - The maximum rate of orientation change. E.g., if the current angular velocity of the UE orientation, or the maximum angular velocity of the UE orientation during a period of time is smaller than the configured rate of orientation change threshold.

[0257] - The minimum rate of orientation change. E.g., if the current angular velocity of UE orientation, or the maximum angular velocity of the UE orientation during a period of time is bigger than the configured rate of orientation change threshold.

[0258] - The maximum average rate of orientation change. E.g., if average angle change rate or angular velocity of the UE orientation during a period of time is smaller than the configured average rate of orientation change threshold.

[0259] - The minimum average rate of orientation change. E.g., if average angle change rate or angular velocity of the UE orientation during a period of time is larger than the configured average rate of orientation change.

[0260] A network node may configure whether UE perform data collection when the orientation related condition is fulfilled. When orientation related condition is fulfilled, UE performs or not perform data collection according to network node’s configuration.

[0261] If data collection is performed when orientation condition is fulfilled, the UE may record the orientation related information in the collected data.

[0262] If UE has collected data, when UE indicates the availability of collected data, the UE may also indicate the information of the associated condition (s) under which the data is collected.

[0263] When network node request for UE collected data, the network node may request for data associated with one or more specific condition (s) by indicating in the request message the information of the specific conditions. For example, in the request for collected data, the network node indicate the height information, which is used to indicate that the data collected when the indicated height information is fulfilled is requested.

[0264] In the message for availability indication or for data request, the information of condition (s) may be one of following:

[0265] - A condition ID which is configured by network node along with the condition.

[0266] - The height information that UE is in the height range when the data is collected.

[0267] - The information of code book that is used when data is collected.

[0268] - The orientation condition related information that is fulfilled when data is collected.

[0269] - The height information that UE is not in the height range when the data is collected.

[0270] - The information of code book that is not used when data is collected.

[0271] - The orientation condition related information that is not fulfilled when data is collected.

[0272] The collected data may be associated with one or more conditions.

[0273] With the method provided in this embodiment, the network node can configure a set of conditions that is evaluated when UE decides to perform or not perform data collection for a specific purpose, e.g., AI / ML model training, testing, validation, performance monitoring. This method enables the network node to control the data collection behavior. In some cases, the network node only needs data collected in certain scenarios, e.g., when UE is above a height threshold, or when a specific code book is used, or when the average angular velocity is smaller than a configured value.

[0274] Further, this method enables the association of collected data and application condition (s) . Thus UE can indicate the data and the associated application conditions, and network node can request for the data associated with a specific application condition (s) . This provides flexibility for requesting procedure of the collected data.

[0275] This embodiment also provides some inventive application conditions: UE’s height, code book, UE orientation change related conditions.

[0276] V. Embodiment 4

[0277] Embodiment 4 describes conditions for omitting data for UE side model.

[0278] This embodiment is about how to perform selection / omission of collected data, or decide whether to record the data based on the accuracy of the prediction of AI / ML based on collected data.

[0279] The UE record the collected data, or decide to select the data for reporting, or decide to omit collected data based on following method.

[0280] The UE validates the collected data with the related AI / ML model by comparing the measured results and the predicted results of a beams. The UE determine predication accuracy based on the results of comparison:

[0281] If prediction accuracy is above a configured threshold, the UE may omit the collected data for reporting, or not record the collected data.

[0282] If prediction accuracy is below a configured threshold, the UE may select the collected data for reporting, or record the collected data in local storage.

[0283] The prediction accuracy includes one of following:

[0284] - Predicted result is within N1 dB of the measurement results.

[0285] - Predicted best beam is within the top N2 beams of the measured results.

[0286] - Predicted top N3 beams includes the best beam of the measured results.

[0287] - Predicted beast beam is the best beam of the measured results.

[0288] The network node may configure the value of N1, N2, and N3.

[0289] The network node may configure which one or more accuracy parameters are applied.

[0290] The network node may configure these configurations via system information, RRC message, MAC CE, or DCI.

[0291] The collected data may be used for AI / ML model training, re-tuning, testing, validation, or performance monitoring.

[0292] With this method, the network node can configure the criteria for selecting collected data for reporting, or for determine whether to record a collected data. The method is based on following idea: if the output of an AI / ML model is not good enough (below a configure threshold or condition) based on the collected data (use the measured results of beam of set B as input of AI / ML model) , the collected data is worthy for model training, testing, validation, or performance monitoring. Otherwise, the collected data is within the expected accuracy of the model, thus it is unnecessary to report or record the collected data.

[0293] With this method, the signaling and radio resource used for data reporting, and the UE local storage for recording the collected data are saved.

[0294] This patent document discloses, among other things, the following:

[0295] BS indicates whether and how predicted results are used for a specific function.

[0296] In case a failure occurs in UE side, UE stops applying predicated results of beams / deactivating the active AI / ML model, and / or start to perform data collection.

[0297] The conditions to trigger / stop data collection, including height, change of UE’s orientation, code book information.

[0298] Omitting / selection of collected data for UE sided model based on validation results.
