Abstract
Description
SPEAKER DEVICE FOR PAIRING WITH BLUETOOTH DEVICE USING MOBILE APP TO FORWARD AUDIO AND METHOD THEREFORTECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present inventive subject matter relates generally to speaker. More particularly, the present inventive subject matter relates to a speaker device for pairing with a Bluetooth device using a mobile application (App) to forward an audio and method therefor.BACKGROUND
[0002] Nowadays, it has become increasingly common to use speaker devices, such as those with complex multi-channel configurations, for audiovisual systems. Using the speaker devices with such multi-channel configurations can provide users with immersive spatial sound performance, for example in home theaters.
[0003] Nevertheless, a family may consist of several members, and not everyone is willing to enjoy such stunning audio effects. In one instance, when a member of the family is watching a movie using a home theater, other family members may be chatting together, or children may be doing homework, in the same living room. These members need a quiet space where would not be affected by the sound played from the speaker device of the home theater. In this case, the audio listener may need an additional separate headset to listen to the movie audio forwarded by the speaker device, while all others can stay with him / her together in the same but quiet space.
[0004] In another scenario of the instance, while family members are enjoying a movie playback on the home theater, together, elderly or young-child family members may need to listen to the movie audio at a lower volume instead of directly listening to the speaker device. Thus, they may also choose to forward the audio from the speaker device to such additional headsets, for example through selecting on their mobile devices, respectively, to allow them each to simultaneously listen to the audio from their own headset at an adjusted lower volume.
[0005] However, it is difficult to realize pairing the speaker device with another headset or loudspeaker to forward the audio and playback thereon when there is no touchscreen display on the speaker device. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a solution for pairing Bluetooth devices with a speaker device using a mobile App to forward audios.

[0017] The detailed description of the one or more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter is disclosed hereinafter; however, it is understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the inventive subject matter that may be embodied in various and alternative forms. The figures are not necessarily to scale; some features may be exaggerated or minimized to show details of particular components. Therefore, specific structural and function details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present inventive subject matter.
[0018] FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary schematic diagram 100 of the speaker device for pairing with a Bluetooth device using a mobile App to forward an audio, according to one or more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter. As shown in FIG. 1, the speaker device 110 may comprise three main functional modules: an audio source manager module 112, an audio output module 114 and a Bluetooth source module 116, to realize the audio forwarding to another Bluetooth device 130 for playback.
[0019] The audio source manager module 112 may be configured to receive the audio 120 via interfaces of HDMI / Optical / AUX / Wi-Fi / Bluetooth of the speaker device 110. The audio source manager module 112 can be further configured to control and forward the input audio 120, which can be forwarded via the audio source manager module 112 for local playback and / or further transferred to the Bluetooth device 130 for playback thereon.
[0020] Additional or alternatively, the audio 120 input to the audio source manager module 112 of the speaker device 110 can be from any of various audio sources, such as a HDMI, Optical, AUX, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the like. If the audio 120 is in a format that cannot be supported by the Bluetooth transfer or playback, the audio source manager module 112 may be configured to convert the audio into a Bluetooth format before it is transmitted to the Bluetooth device 130.
[0021] Additional or alternatively, when a user of the Bluetooth device 130 chooses to play the audio 120 simultaneously on the local speaker device 110 along with on the Bluetooth device 130, the audio source manager module 112 may be configured to copy the audio 120 as two identical audios 120, one of which can be continuously transferred to the Bluetooth device 130 for playback thereon, and the other one of which can be used for local playback on the speaker device 110.
[0022] The audio output module 114 may be configured for local playback of the audio 120. Normally, the audio output module 114 receives the audio 120 forwarded from the audio source manager module 112 and processes local playback the audio 120 on the speaker device 110.
[0023] And the Bluetooth source module 116 may be configured to scan the Bluetooth device 130 and connect thereto, and then transfer the audio 120 from the speaker device 110 to the Bluetooth device 130 for playback thereon. Once the Bluetooth source module 116 is connected to the Bluetooth device 130 with a Bluetooth connection 138, the speaker device 110 has successfully paired with the Bluetooth device 130, and the audio 120 can be transferred from the speaker device 110 to the Bluetooth device 130 through the Bluetooth connection 138, where the Bluetooth source module 116 serves as a source to transmit the audio 120 therefrom, and the Bluetooth device 130 serves as a sink to receive the audio 120.
[0024] It is possible to pair the speaker device 110 (as a Bluetooth (BT) source) with the Bluetooth device 130 (as a BT receiver) by using communications between a mobile App 140 and the speaker device 110, when both the speaker device 110 and the Bluetooth device 130 enable the Bluetooth connection. The mobile App 140 may be configured to notify the Bluetooth source module 116 in the speaker device 110 to start a Bluetooth scan and pair the Bluetooth device 130 selected by its user by checking a Bluetooth scan result list returned from the Bluetooth source module 116. The Bluetooth device 130 that the user wants to pair should be included in the Bluetooth scan result list, the user may select it from the Bluetooth scan result list shown on the mobile App 140. For example, when the user wants to listen to the audio 120 using a headset 132, he / she may select the headset 132 from one or more available Bluetooth devices including such as a headset 132, an earphone 134, and / or a loudspeaker 136, etc., shown in the Bluetooth scan result list. Therefore, the user can pair the speaker device 110 with the Bluetooth device 130 by using the mobile App 140 to forward the audio 120, without any screen display on the speaker device 110.
[0025] In a way of example, the mobile App 140 can be installed on a mobile device of the user. The mobile device may be a mobile phone, smart phone, wearable device or other portable electronic devices that may communicate with the speaker device 110 via wired and / or wireless connection 142, such as Wi-fi, BLE, or the like.
[0026] In the example, the mobile App 140 can be any of suitable Apps to control the speaker device 110 to pair it with the Bluetooth device 130. In particular, the mobile App 140 shall be configured to display control information thereon so as to present the information to the user, as there is neither any screen or touchscreen display on the speaker device 110 nor on the Bluetooth device 130. In one and more embodiments, the information may comprise the Bluetooth scan result list, and one or more available Bluetooth devices130, such as headsets 132, earphones 134, loudspeakers 136 and the like, may be listed in the Bluetooth scan result list. The information may further comprise audio setting parameters, such as the frequency settings for equalization adjustments, the volume pressure levels for volume adjustments, and / or active noise cancellation (ANC) settings, etc. for the Bluetooth device 130. As noted, the mobile App 140 may at least assist with Bluetooth pairing, such as to notify the Bluetooth source module 116 to start the Bluetooth scan and pair it with the Bluetooth device 130. The mobile App 140 may also present the Bluetooth scan result list to the user, which is returned back from the Bluetooth source module 116, to allow the user to select the Bluetooth device 130 that he / she wants to pair thereon.
[0027] Additional or alternatively, by selecting on the mobile App 140, it may further allow the user to choose whether the input audio 120 shall be played on the Bluetooth device 130 only, or simultaneously played on the local speaker device 110 as well. In addition, the mobile App 140 may be configured to achieve further availability, flexibility and scalability in controlling the speaker device 110 for the audio forwarding. For example, the mobile App 140 may be further configured to process audio settings, such as equalization adjustments, volume adjustments, and ANC settings, etc.
[0028] Therefore, as can be seen in FIG. 1, by using the mobile App 140 on the user’s mobile device, the speaker device 110 can be connected with another Bluetooth device 130, such as a headset 132, an earphone 134 or another speaker 136, via the Bluetooth connection 138, so that the audio 120 on the speaker device 110 can be transferred to the Bluetooth device 130 through the Bluetooth connection 138 for playback thereon.
[0029] FIG. 2A illustrates an exemplary interaction processing flowchart 200 among various functional modules 212, 214, 216 in the speaker device 210, the Bluetooth device 230 and the mobile App 240 in the method for pairing the speaker device 210 with the Bluetooth device 230 using the mobile App 240 to forward an audio, according to one or more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter; and FIG. 2B illustrates an exemplary flowchart 200’ of the method in FIG. 2A.
[0030] As shown in FIG. 2A and FIG. 2B, when a user wants to use a headset, for example, to listen to the audio forwarded by the speaker device 210 of a set of audiovisual appliances, he / she can firstly operate on his / her mobile App 240 to establish a connection between the mobile App 240 and the speaker device 210, such as through Wi-fi or BLE, etc. at the home, and start 232 Bluetooth pairing the speaker device 210 with the Bluetooth device 230.
[0031] In the step S202’ , as triggered by the user on his / her mobile device, the mobile App 240 may notify the Bluetooth source module 216 in the speaker device 210 to start 242 Bluetooth scan for available Bluetooth devices nearby. The mobile App 240 may send a notification to the Bluetooth source module 216, which indicates the Bluetooth source module 216 to start the Bluetooth scan. The Bluetooth source module 216 may be configured to perform the Bluetooth scan upon receiving the notification from the mobile App 240, and return 244 a Bluetooth scan result list to the mobile App 240. The Bluetooth scan result list may include all available Bluetooth devices ready to pair near around, such as one or more headsets, earphones, loudspeakers and the like, and the headset that the user wants to pair with the speaker device 210 should be included in the Bluetooth scan result list. By checking the Bluetooth scan result list shown on the mobile App 240, the user may select 246 the headset that he / she wants to pair, through the mobile App 240, as the Bluetooth device 230 (sink) .
[0032] Next, in step S204’, the Bluetooth source module 216 can be further configured, upon receiving the user’s selection from the mobile App 240, to connect 248 the speaker device 210 to the Bluetooth device 230, i.e., the user selected headset. And then the Bluetooth source module 216 may notify 250 the audio source manager module 212 as well as the mobile App 240, respectively, of the Bluetooth connection. Accordingly, the audio source manager module 212 may further inform the audio output module 214 to stop 252 local playback of the audio on the speaker device 210, but continue to forward 254 the audio to the Bluetooth source module 216 and in turn to transfer 256 the audio therefrom to the Bluetooth device 230. Additionally or alternatively, the audio source manager module 212 can further convert the audio to a Bluetooth format if the audio initially input at the audio source manager module 212 is not in such format. Otherwise, it cannot be transmitted via the Bluetooth connection, or the Bluetooth device cannot support playback of the audio, either.
[0033] In one and more embodiments, in step S206’ , by selecting 258 on the mobile App 240, the user may further choose whether or not to play the audio locally on the speaker device 210 while also playing the audio on the Bluetooth device 230. If the user chooses not to play the audio locally, the audio source manager module 212 can do nothing. Otherwise, if the user chooses to play the audio on the local speaker device 210 simultaneously, the audio source manager module 212 may inform the audio output module 214 to start 260 local playback of the audio. In this case, additionally and alternatively, the audio source manager module 212 may copy the audio as two identical audios, one of which is still forwarded to the Bluetooth source module 216 to further transfer to the Bluetooth device 230, and the other one of which can be forwarded to the audio output module 214 for local playback of the audio.
[0034] Finally, in step S208’, once the Bluetooth connection between the speaker device 210 and the Bluetooth device 230 (e.g., the user’s headset) has been disconnected, such as by the user through selecting on the mobile App 240 or through switching a button on the speaker device 210, the Bluetooth source module 216 shall notify 262 the audio source manager module 212 of such Bluetooth disconnection. And then the audio source manager module 212 may continue to send the audio to the audio output module 214 to resume 264 local playback of the audio on the speaker device.
[0035] In one or more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter below, a set of audiovisual appliances with a bar speaker arranged in a living room at a home has been used in one or more exemplary scenarios in order to describe the method for pairing a speaker device with a Bluetooth device using a mobile App to forward an audio as provided herein, but it should be noted that such speaker device and the method provided herein can be further used in other applications.
[0036] FIG. 3 illustrates one or more exemplary scenarios 300 of the method for pairing the speaker device with a Bluetooth device using a mobile App to forward an audio, according to one or more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter. In the scenarios described below, the speaker device takes the form of a bar speaker 310 as an example, but it can be understood by those skilled in the art that other forms of the speaker device for pairing with a Bluetooth device using a mobile App to forward an audio as provided in the present inventive subject matter are also applicable.
[0037] In one or more embodiments, as shown in FIG. 3, the bar speaker 310 connected with a TV 312 and a DVD player 314 has been arranged in the living room 311. In the scenario in the living room 311, a user 301 and a user 302 are both sitting on a sofa at the listening position of the bar speaker 310 and facing to the TV 312 and the bar speaker 310.
[0038] It can be seen from FIG. 3 that the user 302 on the sofa is wearing a headset 302a, and his / her mobile device, such as a mobile phone, is placed next to him / her. The mobile device may have been connected to the bar speaker 310 with a Wi-Fi network. It can be imagined that all the rooms in FIG. 3 have already been covered by the Wi-Fi network through the wireless router 316 placed in the corner of the living room 311. As denoted in FIG. 3, a mobile App 302b has been installed on the mobile phone of the user 302. The user 302 thus may operate on the mobile App 302b to enable it to communicate with the bar speaker 310, control the pairing of the bar speaker 310 with the headset 302a, and forward the audio of the TV 312 to the headset 302a for playback thereon, when the mobile App 302b and the bar speaker 310 are in connection in the Wi-Fi network, for example.
[0039] According to the method described in reference with FIG. 2A and 2B, the user 302 can pair the headset 302a with the bar speaker 310 using the mobile App 302b on his / her mobile phone, so that the user 302 can listen to the audio of the TV 312 through the headset 302a.
[0040] The user 301, who is also sitting on the sofa next to the user 302, may like to do something else other than watching TV. Thus, the user 302 in this case may choose not to play the audio of the TV 312 locally on the bar speaker 310, and his / her watching TV 312 or movies will not disturb the family, nor the user 301. The audio now is being forwarded to the headset 302a and presented to only the user 302 but cannot be heard by the user 301. Therefore, while the user 302 is watching TV and receiving the audio of the TV 312, the user 301 may engage in other tasks, such as reading quietly, without being affected by the audio. That is to say, the user 301 and user 302 both stay together in the living room without affecting each other, even they are seated next to each other.
[0041] If the user 301 sitting on the sofa next to the user 302 would like to watch TV or enjoy a movie along with the user 302, the user 302 can choose through the mobile App 302b to simultaneously play the audio of the movie on the bar speaker 310. Other users without the headset 302a, including the user 301, can also watch the movie while hearing the audio thereof, together. By this way, the issue of each one of the users adapting to the audio volume can be solved. For example, the user 301 can experience the immersive surround-sound effects of the movie through the bar speaker 310 with a multi-channel configuration, such as 5.1 or 7.1 settings, while the user 302 can hear the audio of the movie, for example, in a stereo sound effect at a lower volume through his / her headset 302a.
[0042] In the example, additionally or alternatively, the user 302 worn the headset 302a to listen to the TV audio can also individually adjust the audio effects, such as the equalization adjustments and the volume adjustments for the audio, as well as the ANC settings etc., through the mobile App 302b, in order to achieve a better sound effect but avoid hearing loss at the same time, especially for the elderly and the young child in the family. Additionally or alternatively, the mobile App may also provide other features such as firmware updates and the ability to connect multiple speakers for multiple audio forwarding.
[0043] Additionally or alternatively, the input source for the bar speaker 310 can be various, such as HDMI, optical, AUX, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. In general, the audio source manager module (not shown in FIG. 3) in the bar speaker 310 may control whether a single-source playback or a multi-source playback can be supported. The single-source playback means that only one input audio can be supported at a time, which means that all users connected to the bar speaker can only listen to the same audio, which generally belongs to a simple implementation mode. And the multi-source playback means that it can support multiple input sources at the same time, which means that different users connected to the bar speaker may choose the input source they want to hear, respectively. In other words, while one user is watching TV 312, another user can listen to the music played by the DVD player 314 on his / her own headset, respectively.
[0044] As shown in FIG. 3, in another scenario in the bedroom 313, a user 303 is wearing a headset 303a and holding a mobile phone. He / she can use the mobile App 303b on his / her mobile phone to pair the headset 303a with the bar speaker 310 in the living room 311, so that user 303 can listen to a music, which may be input from the DVD player 314, through the headset 303a in the bedroom 313. The user 303 can further use the mobile App 303b to adjust the volume of the audio playback, for example.
[0045] In yet another scenario in the bedroom 315, there is a loudspeaker 305a placed in the corner of the bedroom 315. As shown in FIG. 3, a user 305 is lying in bed for a rest in the bedroom 315. The user 305 can use the mobile App 305b on his / her mobile device, as placed on a bedside, to pair the loudspeaker 305a (as a BT receiver) with the bar speaker 310, creating a multi-space layout together with the previously described headsets 302a, 303a as BT receivers, for the set of audiovisual appliances with a bar speaker at the home. The user 305 can similarly use the loudspeaker 305a placed in the bedroom 315 to listen to the music from the DVD player 314 arranged in the living room 311.
[0046] In one or more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter, by using a speaker device as the BT source to forward various audios to another Bluetooth device can provide users with more high-performance services. In the example, the audio can be input to the speaker device from various audio sources such as HDMI / Optical / Wi-Fi or others connected to the speaker device and then forwarded to a headset / earphone or another Bluetooth device through the Bluetooth connection. In other words, the users can utilize the speaker device, which acts as a BT source role, to listen to the audio from the TV or DVD player through their headsets or earphones, which allows the users each to listen to music or watch his / her favorite shows alone without disturbing others.
[0047] The mobile App can be used not only to control the speaker device for its pairing with a Bluetooth device and forwarding an audio to playback thereon, it may also introduce many additional features to the Bluetooth device connected via the speaker device, such as equalization and / or volume adjustments for the audio, and firmware updates of the Bluetooth device, or the ability to connect the speaker device to multiple other headsets / earphones / loudspeakers to achieve multi-audience and multi-audio sharing.
[0048] In the foregoing specification, the inventive subject matter has been described with reference to specific embodiments thereof. It will, however, be evident that various modifications and changes may be made thereto without departing from the broader scope of the invention. For example, the above-described processing flows are described with reference to a particular ordering of process actions. However, the ordering of many of the described process actions may be changed without affecting the scope or operation of the invention. The specification and drawings are, accordingly, to be regarded in an illustrative rather than restrictive sense.
[0049] Any combination of one or more computer-readable media may be used to perform the method provided in one and more embodiments of the present inventive subject matter. The computer-readable medium may be a computer-readable signal medium or a computer-readable storage medium. The computer-readable storage medium may be, for example, but not limited to, an electronic, magnetic, optical, electromagnetic, infrared, or semiconductor system, device, or device, or any suitable combination of the foregoing. More specific examples (non-exhaustive list) of the computer-readable storage medium may include, for example: an electrical connection with one or more wires, portable computer floppy disks, hard disks, random access memory (RAM) , read-read-only memory (ROM) , erasable programmable read only memory (EPROM or flash memory) , optical fibers, portable compact disc read only memory (CD-ROM) , optical storage devices, magnetic storage devices, or any suitable combinations of the foregoing. In the context of the disclosure, the computer-readable storage medium may be any tangible medium that can include or store a program for use by or in connection with an instruction execution system, device, or device.
