[0004] TITLE

[0005] METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE AUTOMATIC FIXING OF THE END OF A SKEIN OF FLEXIBLE TUBE-LIKE ELEMENTS AND THE LIKE TO REELS FOR THE RELATIVE WINDING INTO TURNS

[0006] DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0007] Field of the art

[0008] Most of the flexible tube-like elements and similar products made of plastic material are basically made by extrusion or co-extrusion and, when they have a length greater than that of a segment which can be handled in a straight line, are wound into turns for storage, marketing and use.

[0009] Depending on the type of product, but also on the relevant intended use, in some applications the elements are wound into coils, in others they are wound around a support core, in most cases such support cores consist of coils, this entailing reel structures typically made of wooden material and relevant substitutes or plastic material, with a central core that is typically cylindrical and projections or shoulders that are typically disc-shaped at the two ends, up to the point where at its diameter the shouldered turns are wound into orderly and superimposed layers.

[0010] In automatic winders according to the prior art, the reel winding end of a skein is fixed to the core by hand, usually using an adhesive tape or a metal staple, so that upon driving the reel in rotation the end of a skein is pulled to the resistance of the supplied tube.

[0011] It is clear that such need for human intervention at each start of a winding cycle entails slowing down production, not only and not necessarily due to the times needed by the operator to carry out the operation, but also the need to take all accident-prevention measures due to the human presence among the kinematic mechanisms.

[0012] In the known art the Japanese Patent No. JPH078703B2 dated 1 February 1995 in the name of Nichiden Mach Ltd discloses a solution concept aimed specifically at handling of metal wires, which does not apply and adapt to flexible tubular elements and similar plastic articles, which have a pronounced elastic memory and therefore require careful guiding and constant retention of the manipulated element at all stages, with no reliance on maintaining a set bend unless maintained by means of guiding and retention.

[0013] Objects of the invention

[0014] In this context, the main object of the present invention is to provide a method and a device adapted to automatically connect and fix the end of a skein to the virgin reel in automatic and semiautomatic equipment for winding tube-like elements made of plastic material and the like.

[0015] Another object of the present invention is to achieve the preceding object through a method and a device which can be applied to the existing winding equipment without the need for particular adaptations.

[0038] Static description of the embodiment

[0039] With reference to the figures and in particular to figure 1, a winding equipment according to the prior art, to which there is applied the device for the automatic fixing of the end of a skein of flexible tube-like elements and the like to reels according to the present invention is indicated in its entirety with 1.

[0040] The winding device 1 comprises a base 2 which supports - through a plate 4 - an advancement device 3, adapted to receive upstream a polymeric tube 5, for example coming from a plant of relevant extrusion - not shown, conventionally front - and slide it according to a conventionally longitudinal horizontal orthogonal axis y outside a supply termination 6 and into a barrel 7, which can be calibrated in an interchangeable fashion, to convey and supply it to a reel-holder assembly indicated in its entirety with 12, conventionally rear, wherein such conventional side references will be provided with the same orientation criteria used even in the description below.

[0041] The supply termination 6 and the relevant calibrated barrel or calibre 7 can be reclined angularly on a vertical plane, that is the plane of the axes y and z and parallel, through a linkage 8 driven by a pneumatic actuator 9.

[0042] The plate 4, and the entire advancement device 3 therewith and relevant accessories, are alternately movable according to a conventionally transversal horizontal orthogonal axis x, for this purpose slidable through slides 10 on guides 11 by means of a linear actuator, for example a rack and pinion or a worm screw, which moves it to replicate the same trajectory changing the direction each time it reaches the end thereof.

[0043] On the rear side of the base 2 there is supported cantilevered the reel-holder assembly 12, comprising two symmetrical edges 13 carried cantilevered in an adjustable manner and which can be positioned according to a conventionally transversal horizontal orthogonal axis x, for this purpose slidable through slides 14 on guides 15 by means of a linear actuator, for example a rack and pinion or a worm screw.

[0044] At the front part, on the edges 13 there are supported two reelholder pins 16 arranged coaxially opposite on axis x and driven in rotation by respective drive means 17.

[0045] The drive means 17 and the reel-holder pins 16 therewith can positioned adjustably vertically according to a vertical conventionally orthogonal axis z for this purpose slidable through slides 18 on guides 19 by means of a linear actuator, for example a rack and pinion or a worm screw, from a position approached to the conventionally upper calibrated barrel 7 to an opposite position moved away from the conventionally lower calibrated barrel 7, wherein such conventional level references will be provided with the same orientation criteria used even in the description below.

[0046] On each of the reel-holder pins 16 there are rotatable two countershoulders 20, disc-shaped in the shown embodiment, provided with respective radial slots 21 which diverge angularly from the centre.

[0047] On the outer side of the two rotatable disc-shaped countershoulders 20, that is on the side facing the edges 13, there are provided for means for intercepting and gripping in a clamping fashion, indicated in their entirety with 22, which face the slots 21 and comprise an eyelet 23 adapted to be occluded by a gate 24 driven by a linear actuator 25 using an electric micro-motor controlled in a wireless remote mode.

[0048] A spool reel, with axial holes 27 so as to be associated with the reel-holder pins 16, of the type with core 28 flanked by disc-shaped shoulders 29 is indicated with 26.

[0049] A hole 30 is made in the reel 26 through the shoulders 29 and near the outer surface of the core 28.

[0050] On the advancement device 3 there is pivoted through a bracket 31, driven by a pair of pneumatic actuators 32, a deviator device indicated in its entirety with 33, adapted to swing at the upper part on the supply termination 6 of the tube 5 and, in the lower position of the stroke thereof, intercept and divert the tube 5 exiting from the calibrated barrel 7.

[0051] To this end, the deviator device 33 is shaped - at the lower part - to form a groove 34 with semi-circular cross-section, which has a straight proximal portion 35 complementary to the calibrated barrel 7 and to the section of the tube 5 exits from the calibrated barrel 7 and a consecutive curved distal portion 36 which is bent laterally, terminating in a spout 37 provided with an abutment and rolling bearing 38, which can be positioned through appropriate adjustment of all devices for the adjustment and interaction of the kinematic mechanisms, so that it is adapted to fill the hole 30 made through the shoulders 29 of the reel 26 near the outer surface of the relevant core 28.

[0052] All kinematic mechanisms and actuators shall be deemed connected to an electronic logic which precedes the actuation, deactivation, adjustments, translations, interactions and functions thereof generally as specified below.

[0053] Dynamic description of the embodiment

[0054] Thus, having completed the static description of a preferred embodiment of the method and device for the automatic fixing of the end of a skein of flexible tube-like elements and the like to reels according to the present invention, below is the dynamic description, or the relative operation: at the end of a previous winding step, like the one described below, the advancement device 3 of the tube 5 is stationary, the tube 5 accumulates at the front part to the winding equipment 1 , according to the prior art, in a compensation reservoir of the ongoing extrusion that does not stop.

[0055] When replacing the reel filled in the previous operative step, on the reel-holder 2 there is loaded an empty reel 26, angularly directing it so that the hole 30 made on a shoulder 29 near the core 28 collimates at the slot 21 of the corresponding counter-shoulder 20 and, in the frame defined by the latter, with the slot 23 of the clamp-like interception and retention means 22, appropriately adjusted therein in the position thereof which can be alternatively positioned inside and along the slot 21.

[0056] At this point, or simultaneously with the description below, the counter-shoulders 20 are clamped to the shoulders 29 of the reel 26, and then rotated with the reel 26 in question, driving in rotation therewith the clamp-like interception and retention means 22, as better described below.

[0057] Using the pneumatic actuator 9 and the linkage 8, the supply termination 6 of the tube 5 are driven to incline by the advancement device 3 and the consecutive calibre 7, descending towards the core 28 of the reel 26 from the upper position achieved at the end of the winding of the operating cycle prior to the filling in turns of the previous reel up to reaching the relevant shoulders.

[0058] The inclination stops before the axis of the calibre 7 reaches the tangency of the core 28 of the reel 26, specifically, herein preceding the dynamics of the subsequent paragraph, stops when the abutment and rolling bearing 38 associated with the outward spout 37 of the deviator groove 34 rests against the core 28 of the reel 26, so as to exploit the elastic memory of the tube 5 which will project therefrom, as better illustrated hereinafter.

[0059] In this step, the deviator 33 is or is driven to, by the pneumatic actuators 32 through the pivoting bracket 31, adhere at the upper part to the calibre 7, which is housed in the proximal portion 35 of the relevant lower guide groove 34 and it is inclined with the calibre 7, as mentioned above, until the bearing 38 abuts against the outward spout 37 on the core 28 of the reel 26.

[0060] At this point, the advancement device 3 is activated and the tube 5 exits from the calibre 7 and it feels the curve imparted thereto by the curved distal portion 36 of the lower guide groove 34 of the deviator 33, to which there is preferably imposed a downward distal inclination greater than that of the axis of the calibre 7, so that the protruding tube 5, with elastic memory tendentially coincident with that of the axis of the calibre 7 from which it protrudes, is induced in slight bending inclination when filling the lower guide groove 34 of the deviator 33, counteracting with its elastic memory, which facilitates the dynamic permanence thereof in the lower guide groove 34 of the deviator 33 and in particular in the relative curved distal portion 36.

[0061] Through the termination spout 37 the curved distal portion 36 of the deviator 33 inserts the tube 5 into the hole 30 of the shoulder 29 of the reel 26 and therefore into the consecutive slot 21 of the countershoulder 20 through the eyelet 23 of the clamp -like interception and retention means 22 that is appropriately open in this step. The gate 24 immediately closes the eyelet 23 trapping the end of a skein 5 and simultaneously the deviator 33, reclining upwards, releases the calibre 7, so that the tube 5 protrudes therefrom and therefore fixed to the core 28 of the reel 26 is wound in turns to the reel 26, when the latter is driven in rotation together with the counter-shoulders 20.

[0062] The clamp-like interception and retention means 22 rotate together with the counter-shoulders 20 and can release the end of a skein 5 at any time when the succession of the winding into turns makes the fixing of the end of a skein 5 in question superfluous.

[0063] The winding into turns continues until the reel 26 is filled and the beginning of a subsequent operating cycle as described below.

[0064] Alternative embodiments

[0065] It is obvious that in further alternative embodiments still falling within the innovation concept subject of the embodiment illustrated above and claimed below, the method and device for the automatic fixing of the end of a skein of flexible tube-like elements and the like to reels according to the present invention, may be implemented through equivalent technical and mechanical solutions, that is provided with further supplementary solutions, same case applying - in the claimed scope - all elements they are made of may vary in a manner suitable for the purpose and adapted to the specific conformation and structure.
