Convertible backpack

Abstract

The present invention relates to a convertible backpack which is a backpack made of soft fabric housing therein a pad with flaps, which in turn incorporates an object-holder extension, all of which forming a single unit that can be unfolded and converted, so that the user can carry the backpack on their back while walking or travelling using any means of transport by way of a conventional soft backpack. The backpack is characterised in that when the user must take a seat on a cold, dirty or hard surface, they just have to unfold a pad equipped with two flaps and its object-holder extension from the inside of the backpack, without any independent elements resulting from or being removed during the operation.

[0003] The invention, as its name indicates, consists of a soft fabric backpack that houses inside a pad with tabs, which, in turn, incorporates a storage extension, all forming a single unit that is deployable and convertible, so that the user can carry the backpack on their back when walking or traveling in any means of transport in the manner of a conventional soft backpack, with the particularity that when the user has to sit down on a cold, dirty or hard surface they only have to unfold from inside the backpack a pad equipped with two tabs and its storage extension, without the operation resulting in or extracting independent elements.

[0006] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0007] In daily life, walks, attending sporting events, and engaging in outdoor activities are commonplace. These activities always require carrying various items such as drinks, snacks, keys, mobile phones, or money and cards, which are usually kept in bags or backpacks of varying complexity. At sporting or cultural events, spectators must sit on different types of seating, such as stone bleachers, chairs, or simple benches, which can cause physical discomfort due to their rigidity or hardness. Meanwhile, in the case of outdoor football stadiums or multi-sports facilities for basketball, handball, swimming, and many other sports, the audience watches the spectacle seated in chairs, generally plastic, with backrests, which are typically rigid and hard.In the case of football stadiums or outdoor concerts, these chairs may be wet from rain, may accumulate dirt due to their multiple uses, and, because of the proximity between them, there are usually no spaces between them for placing backpacks or bags, much less for placing food or drink cans without risk of spillage.

[0008] The present invention solves such problems by offering the user a way to carry personal belongings in a soft fabric backpack and, upon arrival at the event and taking a seat, keep them at hand and under supervision throughout the show without risk of spills, theft or loss. At the same time, due to its unique and innovative characteristics, the backpack itself offers the spectator the possibility of comfortably settling into the assigned seat on a cushion with a waterproof layer that protects them from the hardness, humidity, dirt and temperature of the chair, with the entire assembly formed by the backpack, cushion and storage compartment being incorporated into the seat and its backrest.

[0009] Another novelty incorporated by the proposed invention is that the user does not require spaces, which in most cases do not exist, in which to place the backpack they are carrying, since, being made of soft fabric, its surface itself adjusts or covers the back of the seat in the way that will be detailed, keeping the cushion unfolded and the spectator seated on it, with the storage compartment protected behind the user's legs without occupying any space between the seats and providing the user with absolute comfort to perform operations such as drinking, eating or even depositing wrappers or food scraps in order not to soil the premises.

[0010] Convertible bags or backpacks for a wide variety of uses are known in the state of the art, such as utility model U202230411 with a publication date of 23 / 05 / 2022, which describes a backpack attachable to chairs, sun loungers or similar items, allowing the user to comfortably and in a unified manner carry frequently used items in different situations, such as when going to the beach, allowing the user to carry the backpack, which will have been attached to the chair or sun lounger, and to carry the entire set hanging on their back.

[0011] The invention U201831759 with publication number 1 222 159 describes a suitcase or backpack with a built-in seat, which is constituted and comprises a suitcase or backpack to which a seat is added either to its front or rear, which is constituted by: a fixed backrest attached to the front or rear side of the backpack; and which on its lower side has a hinge for joining it to the base of the seat; having in turn the corresponding straps joined on one part to the upper part of the lateral sides of the backrest and on the other part to the most extreme part of the lateral sides of the base of the seat, which are responsible for maintaining the open position of the seat at a 90° angle.

[0012] Although these inventions refer to convertible backpacks and, in the second one mentioned, to a backpack with a seat, they do not have the utility or characteristics of the invention being advocated, since the first one requires the user to carry the seat itself on their back, for which certain innovative means are foreseen, but due to its described elements, it is not suitable for use in sporting or cultural events where spaces are limited and the seats are arranged massively and with very little separation between them.The same applies to the second invention mentioned, since it also does not provide a means to eliminate the volume of the backpack in such events and how to attach it to a seat, so neither of them nor other existing inventions that have been registered present the innovative characteristics described in the present invention, from which it can be concluded that convertible backpacks with the characteristics and uses that will be described are not known in the state of the art.

[0013] DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0014] To provide a joint solution to the problems arising from the lack of comfort, low temperature, humidity and hygiene of the public seating installed in sports or cultural venues, as well as the problem of the lack of adequate supports and spaces for the placement of belongings, especially drinks and food, an invention such as the one described is required.

[0015] Thus, the present invention relates to a backpack that converts into a waterproof cushion with a storage compartment. This allows sports spectators to carry items to the venue not only in a conventional soft drawstring backpack, but also incorporates a fold-out cushion that extends over the seat to be occupied. The cushion is attached to the backpack by an elastic band, to which it is sewn. Due to the semi-elastic fabric and rectangular shape of the backpack, it fits snugly against the seat back. Therefore, the spectator's body is never in direct contact with the seat, but rather with the combined cushion and backpack, which, when fitted against the seat, acts as a waterproof backrest.

[0016] The advantages of the invention are to provide the user with a useful means so that, once seated in the seats of football stadiums or similar venues, he is freed from all burdens, since the backpack that was used for the purpose of transporting objects is not placed, as would be common, under the seat or on the legs of the spectator, but now serves the dual function of acting as a waterproof pad for the surface of the seat and as a backrest cover.

[0023] As can be seen in Figure 2, the convertible backpack combines a triple function in a single piece: as a conventional soft carrying backpack, as a seat cover, as a backrest cover, and as a storage container, as follows: The convertible backpack is a single unit made up of the following elements:

[0024] A rectangular backpack made of semi-elastic fabric, padded or not, which closes with a conventional drawstring system (2) like a sack, and which incorporates:

[0025] A main rectangular foam body (3) with the same dimensions as the open surface of the backpack, covered with waterproof and water-repellent fabric. This rectangular body (3) acts as a cushion on the seat surface and incorporates a folding flap (4) at each of its lateral ends. Both folding flaps (4) are rectangular and made of the same material as the main rectangular body (3) and are positioned on either side of it. These folding flaps (4) are the same length as the rectangular body (3) and half its width, their function being to protect the user from the cold, dampness, and dirt that accumulates on the sides of the seat.The main rectangular body (3) is attached to the backpack itself by an elastic band that is sewn inside its reverse side and whose function is to prevent unraveling when pressure is exerted when sitting down once the surface of the backpack (1) is encased in the back of the seat.

Claims

CLAIMS 1.- Convertible backpack characterized in that it comprises: A single body consisting of a soft and elastic fabric backpack of rectangular shape (1) that closes by means of a conventional system of cords (2) in the manner of a sack; a main rectangular body (3) of foam of the same dimensions as the open surface of the backpack covered with waterproof and water-repellent fabric and a square-shaped storage compartment (5) of waterproof fabric and without foam. 2.- Convertible backpack according to claim one characterized in that the main rectangular body (3) incorporates a tab (4) of the same material, at each of its ends which have the same length as the main body (3) and half its width. 3.- Convertible backpack according to claim one characterized in that the main rectangular body (3) is attached to the backpack (1) by an elastic band (6) which is sewn inside it.
