Comparative Production Example 3: Phenylethyl alcohol (manufactured by FUJIFILM Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Ltd.) was used as repellent No. 6A. Phenylethyl alcohol was diluted with dipropylene glycol to 20% by mass to produce repellent No. 6B.
[0074] [Examples 1 to 3 and Comparative Examples 1 to 3] The following mosquito repellency tests and mite repellency tests were carried out on repellents No. 1A to No. 6B. The results are shown in Table 1.
[0075] [Mosquito Repellent Test] (1) A mosquito repellent tester 101 shown in Figure 5 was prepared in a thermostatic chamber at 25°C. Note that Figure 5 is a diagram for facilitating understanding and does not reflect the actual dimensions of the mosquito repellent tester 101. Two glass tubes 103 (length: 240 mm, diameter: 45 mm) were prepared, and one end of each of the two glass tubes was sealed with a lid 105 made of nylon mesh (18 mesh). Nylon mesh (18 mesh) was used to form a cylinder 107 (length: 100 mm, diameter: 40 mm), and an insect release port 109 (15 mm x 15 mm) was formed in the center. Glass tubes 103 were connected to both ends of the cylinder 107 so that the cylinder 107 was inserted 2 cm into each end, and the gaps were sealed. The right glass tube 103 is referred to as test area 111, and the left glass tube 103 is referred to as blank area 113.
[0076] (2) A repellent-containing nonwoven fabric 115 (2 cm x 2 cm) made of a spunbond nonwoven fabric with a repellent dripped into the center was placed at the right end of test area 111 (inside mosquito repellent tester 101), and a repellent-free nonwoven fabric 117 made of a spunbond nonwoven fabric with no repellent dripped into it was placed at the left end of blank area 113 (inside mosquito repellent tester 101). (3) Thirty Aedes albopictus mosquitoes (hereinafter simply referred to as "mosquitoes") were released into mosquito repellent tester 101 through insect release opening 109, and the mosquito repellency test was started by closing insect release opening 109 with cellophane tape.
[0077] (4) Repellency test: Sixty minutes after the start of the test, the mosquitoes present in the counting area 119 of the test area 111 and the mosquitoes present in the counting area 121 of the blank area 113 were counted. The counting areas 119 and 121 for counting mosquitoes were 10 cm closer to the lid 105 of the glass tube 103 (the areas not covered by the lid 105). (5) The repellency rate (%) was calculated using the following formula: Repellency rate (%) = 100 × (1 - number of mosquitoes in counting area 119 / number of mosquitoes in counting area 121). (6) The repellency rate (%) was calculated by performing a total of three tests using different mosquitoes, and the average value of the repellency rate (5) was used.
[0078] [Mite repellency test] The mite repellency test was carried out based on "8.1 Invasion prevention method" of JIS L1920:2022 "Test method for anti-mite performance of textile products." The test insects used were Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Tokyo Women's Medical University) reared by Yamato Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. for successive generations. The test sample was formed by placing a 40 mm diameter spunbond nonwoven fabric in a 45 mm diameter glass petri dish, placing 0.5 g of bait in the center of the spunbond nonwoven fabric, and finely dropping 20 μg of repellent on the areas other than the bait.
[0079]
