Abstract
Description
Electronic device for performing wireless communication and method of operation thereof
[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an electronic device for performing wireless communication and a method of operating the same.
[0002] To meet the increasing demand for wireless data traffic since the commercialization of 4G communication systems, efforts are being made to develop 5G communication systems. For this reason, 5G communication systems are also referred to as "beyond 4G networks" or "post-LTE" communication systems. To achieve relatively high data throughput, 5G communication systems are being considered for implementation in sub-6 GHz bands (e.g., approximately 3.5 GHz bands) or higher frequency bands (e.g., approximately 28 GHz or 39 GHz bands). To mitigate radio path loss and increase transmission range, beamforming, massive MIMO (MIMO), full-dimensional MIMO (FD-MIMO), array antennas, analog beamforming, and large-scale antenna technologies are being discussed for 5G communication systems.
[0003] The above information may be provided as background information to aid in understanding this document. None of the above is claimed to be prior art related to this document or can be used to determine prior art.
[0004] 5G communication systems can support relatively high throughput and relatively low delay (or latency) through relatively wide frequency bandwidth.
[0005] 5G communication systems may support reduced capability (redcap) for electronic devices that do not require relatively high throughput and / or relatively low latency, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) or wearable devices.
[0006] Electronic devices with reduced capabilities may be restricted from accessing cells that do not support reduced capabilities. Because the available cells for electronic devices with reduced capabilities are limited to those supporting reduced capabilities, their mobility may be limited.
[0007] Embodiments of the present disclosure disclose devices and methods for improving mobility in electronic devices with reduced capabilities.
[0008] The technical problems to be achieved in this document are not limited to the technical problems mentioned above, and other technical problems not mentioned can be clearly understood by a person having ordinary skill in the technical field to which the present disclosure belongs from the description below.
[0009] According to one embodiment, an electronic device may include at least one processor and memory, including communication circuitry and processing circuitry that support a first bandwidth associated with reduced capability (redcap) and a second bandwidth greater than the first bandwidth. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to determine, through a cell search, whether a cell supporting the reduced capability exists. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to determine, if no cell supporting the reduced capability exists, whether a cell not supporting the reduced capability exists. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to set a bandwidth of the electronic device to a second bandwidth if a cell not supporting the reduced capability exists. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to access cells that do not support reduced capabilities in response to a setting to a second bandwidth.
[0010] According to one embodiment, a method of operating an electronic device may include an operation of determining whether a cell supporting reduced capability (redcap) exists through a cell search using a communication circuit that supports a first bandwidth associated with reduced capability and a second bandwidth greater than the first bandwidth. According to one embodiment, the method of operating the electronic device may include an operation of determining whether a cell that does not support the reduced capability exists if no cell supporting the reduced capability exists. According to one embodiment, the method of operating the electronic device may include an operation of setting a bandwidth of the electronic device to the second bandwidth if a cell that does not support the reduced capability exists. According to one embodiment, the method of operating the electronic device may include an operation of connecting to a cell that does not support the reduced capability in response to the setting to the second bandwidth.
[0011] According to one embodiment, a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium (or a computer program product) storing one or more programs may be described. According to one embodiment, the one or more programs may include instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of an electronic device, cause the electronic device to perform an operation of performing a cell search using a communication circuit that supports a first bandwidth associated with a reduced capability (redcap) and a second bandwidth greater than the first bandwidth, to determine whether a cell supporting the reduced capability exists, if no cell supporting the reduced capability exists, to determine whether a cell that does not support the reduced capability exists, and if a cell that does not support the reduced capability exists, to set a bandwidth of the electronic device to the second bandwidth, and in response to setting to the second bandwidth, to connect to a cell that does not support the reduced capability.
[0012] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, an electronic device with reduced capability (redcap) can access a cell supporting reduced capability and a cell not supporting reduced capability by selectively using a first frequency bandwidth corresponding to the reduced capability or a second frequency bandwidth different from the first frequency bandwidth.
[0013] According to one embodiment, by selectively using a reduced capability function in an electronic device that supports a first frequency bandwidth corresponding to the reduced capability or a second frequency bandwidth different from the first frequency bandwidth, heat generation or battery consumption of the electronic device can be reduced.
[0014] In addition, various effects may be provided, either directly or indirectly, through this document.
[0015] The effects that can be obtained from the present disclosure are not limited to the effects mentioned above, and other effects that are not mentioned can be clearly understood by a person having ordinary skill in the art to which the present disclosure belongs from the description below.

[0057] For example, the communication circuit (210) may include a plurality of receive paths (e.g., Rx (receive) paths). When the communication circuit (210) operates in a reduced capacity mode, it may perform wireless communication corresponding to the reduced capacity using only some of the plurality of receive paths. When the communication circuit (210) operates in a normal mode, it may perform wireless communication corresponding to the normal mode using the plurality of receive paths. For example, the plurality of receive paths may include a plurality of antennas (or receive antennas) that receive signals via a wireless resource.
[0058] According to one embodiment, when the electronic device (101) supports reduced capability, the processor (200) may determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists through a cell search (e.g., cell search or cell scan). For example, when the electronic device (101) with reduced capability performs cell selection, the processor (200) may determine whether the cell detected through the cell search supports reduced capability through system information (e.g., system information block (SIB) 1). For example, when "redCap-ConfigCommon" exists in SIB 1 of Table 1 below, the processor (200) may determine that the cell supports reduced capability. For example, when "redCap-ConfigCommon" does not exist in SIB 1 of Table 1 below, the processor (200) may determine that the cell does not support reduced capability. For example, a cell detected through cell search may include a cell that receives a signal exceeding a first reference strength specified through cell search. For example, the specified first reference strength may include a received signal strength set to identify (or select) a cell to which the electronic device (101) can connect when selecting a cell.

[0060] According to one embodiment, when a first cell supporting reduced capability is detected through cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a connection to the first cell based on the first frequency bandwidth. For example, when a first cell supporting reduced capability is detected through cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to set (or switch) a frequency bandwidth for wireless communication to the first frequency bandwidth corresponding to the reduced capability. The processor (200) may perform a connection to the first cell through the communication circuit (210) set to the first frequency bandwidth. For example, a capability (e.g., UE capability) of an electronic device may be set (or updated) to correspond to the first frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0061] According to one embodiment, if a cell supporting reduced capability is not detected through cell search, the processor (200) may determine whether a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability is detected based on cell search history or an additional cell search. For example, the cell search history may include the results of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, and may include the results of a cell search performed to determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists.
[0062] According to one embodiment, when a second cell that does not support the reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a connection to the second cell based on the second frequency bandwidth. For example, when a second cell (or a normal cell) that does not support the reduced capability is detected through cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to set (or switch) the frequency bandwidth for wireless communication to the second frequency bandwidth. The processor (200) may perform a connection to the second cell through the communication circuit (210) set to the second frequency bandwidth. For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be set (or updated) to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0063] According to one embodiment, when the processor (200) determines that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is a moving state while the electronic device (101) is connected to a first cell supporting reduced capability, the processor (200) may perform a cell search (e.g., cell search or cell scan) to determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists. For example, when a third cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected through the cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the third cell based on the first frequency bandwidth. For example, when a cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is not detected through the cell search, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform a cell search to determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists. For example, the cell reselection procedure may include a series of operations to move (or handover or switch) the connection cell of the electronic device (101) from the cell to which the electronic device (101) is connected (e.g., a first cell) to a cell detected through cell search (e.g., a third cell). For example, the moving state may include a state in which the electronic device (101) is not located within a specific cell (e.g., the first cell) for a specified period of time. For example, the moving state may be a state in which the amount of movement of the electronic device (101) for a specified period of time exceeds a specified reference amount of movement, which may be detected through a sensor of the electronic device (101) (e.g., a motion sensor). For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be maintained at a value set to correspond to the first frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0064] According to one embodiment, when the processor (200) determines that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is a moving state while the electronic device (101) is connected to a second cell that does not support reduced capability, the processor (200) may perform a cell search (e.g., cell search or cell scan) to determine whether a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability exists. For example, when a fourth cell that does not support reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected through the cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell based on the second frequency bandwidth. For example, when a cell that does not support reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is not detected through the cell search, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform a cell search to determine whether a cell that does not support reduced capability exists. For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be maintained at a value set to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0065] According to one embodiment, when the processor (200) determines that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is stationary while the electronic device (101) is connected to the first cell or the second cell, the processor (200) may perform a cell search (e.g., cell search or cell scan) to determine whether there is a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support the reduced capability. For example, the stationary state may include a state in which the electronic device (101) is located within a specific cell (e.g., the first cell) for a specified period of time. For example, the stationary state may include a state in which the amount of movement of the electronic device (101) for a specified period of time is less than or equal to a specified reference movement amount, which may be determined through a sensor (e.g., a motion sensor) of the electronic device (101). For example, the cell search may include a background scan.
[0066] According to one embodiment, when a third cell supporting reduced capability is detected through cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the third cell based on the first frequency bandwidth. For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to the first cell or the second cell, the processor (200) may determine whether the reception signal strength of the third cell supporting reduced capability exceeds a designated second reference strength. When the reception signal strength of the third cell supporting reduced capability exceeds the designated second reference strength, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the third cell. For example, the reception signal strength of the third cell may be added with a gain of a designated reference value (e.g., Qoffset_redcap) so that cell reselection to the cell supporting reduced capability is prioritized. For example, the designated second reference strength (e.g., T_redcap_H) is a received signal strength set to identify (or select) an accessible cell for the electronic device (101) during cell reselection, and may include a value that is equal to or greater than the designated first reference strength. For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be set (or updated) to correspond to the first frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0067] According to one embodiment, if a cell supporting reduced capability is not detected through cell search, the processor (200) may determine whether a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability is detected based on cell search history or an additional cell search. For example, the cell search history may include the results of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, and may include the results of a cell search performed to determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists.
[0068] According to one embodiment, when a fourth cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell based on the second frequency bandwidth. For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to the first cell, the processor (200) may determine whether the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support reduced capability exceeds a specified second reference strength and the reception signal strength of the first cell is less than a specified third reference strength. When the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support reduced capability exceeds the specified second reference strength and the reception signal strength of the first cell is less than the specified third reference strength, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell. For example, the strength of the received signal of the first cell may be added with a gain of a designated reference value (e.g., Qoffset_redcap) so that wireless communication through a cell supporting a reduced capability is prioritized. For example, a designated third reference strength (e.g., T_redcap_L) may be a received signal strength set to determine whether cell reselection from a cell to which the electronic device (101) is connected during cell reselection, and may include a value smaller than a designated second reference strength. For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be set (or updated) to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0069] For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to the second cell, the processor (200) can determine whether the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support the reduced capability exceeds a specified second reference strength. When the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support the reduced capability exceeds the specified second reference strength, the processor (200) can control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell. For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device can be maintained at a set value corresponding to the second frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0070] According to one embodiment, the processor (200) may set the operation mode of the electronic device (101) to the reduced capability mode when a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied. For example, when the operation mode of the electronic device (101) is set to the reduced capability mode, the processor (200) may preferentially check whether there is a cell supporting the reduced capability during cell selection and cell reselection. For example, a state that satisfies the specified condition related to reduced capability may include at least one of a state in which the temperature of the electronic device (101) exceeds a specified reference temperature, a state in which the remaining battery capacity of the electronic device (101) is lower than or equal to a specified reference battery capacity, a state in which an application or function related to reduced capability is executed, or a state in which an application or function that restricts reduced capability is not executed.
[0071] For example, if a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied, the processor (200) may set (or switch) a stack of subscriber identity modules (SIMs) included in the electronic device (101) that are not used for data communication to operate in a reduced capability mode.
[0072] According to one embodiment, if a specified condition related to reduced capability is not satisfied, the processor (200) may set the operation mode of the electronic device (101) to the normal mode. For example, if the operation mode of the electronic device (101) is set to the normal mode, the processor (200) may check whether there is a cell that does not support the reduced capability during cell selection and cell reselection. For example, a state in which the specified condition related to reduced capability is not satisfied may include at least one of a state in which the temperature of the electronic device (101) is below a specified reference temperature, a state in which the remaining battery capacity of the electronic device (101) exceeds a specified reference battery capacity, a state in which an application or function related to reduced capability is not executed, or a state in which an application or function that restricts the reduced capability is executed. For example, the normal mode may include an operation mode in which wireless communication is performed based on a capability of the electronic device that can be supported in a wireless communication system (e.g., a 5G communication system).
[0073] According to one embodiment, the processor (200) may set (or switch) a stack of subscriber identification modules not used for data communication among a plurality of subscriber identification modules included in the electronic device (101) to operate in a reduced capacity mode. For example, the plurality of subscriber identification modules may include a first subscriber identification module including first subscriber identification information and a second subscriber identification module including second subscriber identification information. When performing data communication through the stack of the first subscriber identification modules, the processor (200) may set (or switch) the stack of the second subscriber identification modules to operate in a reduced capacity mode.
[0074] According to one embodiment, the memory (220) may store various data used by at least one component (e.g., the processor (200) or the communication circuit (210)) of the electronic device (101). For example, the memory (220) may store various instructions that may be executed by the processor (200). For example, the instructions may be executed individually or collectively by the processor (200) (e.g., at least one processor).
[0075] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 or 2) may include communication circuitry (e.g., wireless communication module (192) of FIG. 1 or communication circuitry (210) of FIG. 2) that supports a first bandwidth associated with reduced capability (redcap) and a second bandwidth greater than the first bandwidth, at least one processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1 or processor (200) of FIG. 2) that includes processing circuitry, and a memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 1 or memory (220) of FIG. 2) that stores instructions. According to one embodiment, the instructions, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, may be stored such that the electronic device determines, through cell search, whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists. According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, may cause the electronic device, when in a mobile state, to perform a cell search to determine whether another cell that does not support reduced capabilities to which the electronic device can connect exists. According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, may cause the electronic device to connect to another cell if another cell that does not support reduced capabilities to which the electronic device can connect exists.
[0077] In one embodiment, the instructions, when individually or collectively executed by at least one processor, may cause the electronic device to determine, when in a stopped state, whether there is a cell supporting reduced capability accessible by the electronic device through a cell search. In one embodiment, the instructions, when individually or collectively executed by at least one processor, may cause the electronic device to set a bandwidth of the electronic device to a first bandwidth if there is a cell supporting reduced capability accessible by the electronic device. [0078] According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, may cause the electronic device, when in a stationary state, to perform a cell search to determine if there is no cell supporting reduced capability accessible to the electronic device, another cell that does not support reduced capability accessible to the electronic device exists. [0080] According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, may cause an electronic device, when connected to a cell supporting reduced capability, to perform a cell search to determine if there are other cells supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device can connect.

[0083] According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by the processor, may set the stack of the second subscriber identity module to support reduced capability if the electronic device determines that a specified condition associated with reduced capability is satisfied based on a battery level of the electronic device or a temperature of the electronic device.
[0084] FIG. 3 is a flowchart (300) for accessing a cell in an electronic device according to one embodiment. In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily sequential. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 3 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 or FIG. 2.
[0085] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 3, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1 or processor (200) of FIG. 2) may perform a cell search (e.g., cell search or cell scan) in operation 301. For example, when power is supplied to the electronic device (101) and the communication circuit (210) is activated, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell search based on a frequency band supported by the electronic device (101). For example, when the electronic device (101) is out of a shaded area, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell search based on a frequency band supported by the electronic device (101). For example, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell search based on a frequency band supported by the electronic device (101) when the electronic device (101) is released from a communication restriction (e.g., flight mode).
[0086] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) may, at operation 303, determine whether there is a cell supporting reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can access through a cell search. For example, the processor (200) may determine whether a cell detected through the cell search supports reduced capability through system information (e.g., system information block (SIB) 1) of the cell detected through the cell search. For example, a cell supporting reduced capability includes "redCap-ConfigCommon" in SIB 1. For example, a cell not supporting reduced capability does not include "redCap-ConfigCommon" in SIB 1. For example, a cell detected through the cell search may include a cell that receives a signal exceeding a first reference strength specified through the cell search. For example, the designated first reference strength may include the strength of a received signal set to identify (or select) a cell to which the electronic device (101) can connect when selecting a cell.
[0087] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that there is a first cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 303), in operation 305, the electronic device (101) may connect to the first cell based on the first frequency bandwidth. For example, when a first cell supporting reduced capability is detected through cell search, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to set (or switch) the frequency bandwidth of the electronic device (101) for wireless communication to the first frequency bandwidth corresponding to the reduced capability. The processor (200) may perform connection to the first cell through the communication circuit (210) set to the first frequency bandwidth. The processor (200) can set (or update) the frequency bandwidth (or maximum frequency band) supported by the electronic device (101) included in the capabilities (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device to correspond to the first frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0088] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that there is no cell supporting reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to (e.g., 'No' in operation 303), in operation 307, the processor may determine whether a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability is detected based on the cell search history or an additional cell search. For example, if there is a result of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may determine whether there is a cell that does not support reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to based on the cell search result. For example, if there is no result of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may determine whether there is a cell that does not support reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to through the cell search.
[0089] In one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) may terminate an embodiment for accessing a cell if no cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected (e.g., 'No' in operation 307). For example, if no cell to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform cell searches to determine whether there is a cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect or a cell not supporting reduced capability.
[0090] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) detects a cell that does not support a reduced capability accessible to the electronic device (101) (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 307), in operation 309, the electronic device (101) may set a frequency bandwidth for wireless communication to a second frequency bandwidth. For example, a frequency bandwidth (or maximum frequency band) supported by the electronic device (101) included in a capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be updated to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0091] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) may, at operation 311, access a second cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capabilities based on a second frequency bandwidth. For example, the processor (200) may access the second cell via a communication circuit (210) set to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0092] FIG. 4 is a flowchart (400) for transmitting information related to reduced capabilities in an electronic device according to one embodiment. For example, at least a portion of FIG. 4 may include a detailed description of operation 305 of FIG. 3 . In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily sequential. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 4 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 or FIG. 2 .
[0093] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 4, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device 101) or a processor (e.g., processor 120 of FIG. 1 or processor 200 of FIG. 2) determines that there is a first cell supporting reduced capability accessible to the electronic device (e.g., 'Yes' of operation 303 of FIG. 3), in operation 401, the processor may determine whether a specified transmission condition is satisfied. For example, if the first cell includes resource configuration information of an initial uplink (UL) bandwidth part (BWP) corresponding to the reduced capability and a physical random access channel (PRACH) corresponding to the reduced capability, the processor may determine that the specified transmission condition is satisfied. For example, if the first cell does not include resource configuration information of an initial uplink BWP corresponding to the reduced capability and / or a PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability, the processor may determine that the first cell does not satisfy the specified transmission condition.
[0094] According to one embodiment, if an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that a specified transmission condition is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 401), in operation 403, the electronic device (101) may transmit information related to a reduced capability to a first cell via a random access channel (RACH). For example, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to transmit a PRACH preamble based on resource configuration information of a PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability so as to transmit status information that the electronic device (101) supports the reduced capability to the first cell. For example, the resource configuration information of the PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability may be obtained from system information (e.g., SIB 1) of the first cell.
[0095] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that the specified transmission condition is not satisfied (e.g., 'NO' in operation 401), in operation 405, the electronic device (101) may transmit information related to the reduced capability of the electronic device to the first cell through an RRC connection procedure. For example, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to transmit an RRC connection request message including status information supporting the reduced capability of the electronic device (101).
[0096] FIG. 5 is an example of connecting to a cell supporting reduced capabilities in an electronic device according to one embodiment.
[0097] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 5, an electronic device (101) supporting reduced capability (e.g., redcap) can check whether a cell (500) supporting reduced capability exists through cell search. For example, the electronic device (101) can determine whether the network device (500) of the first cell supports reduced capability through system information (e.g., system information block (SIB) 1) received from the network device (500) of the first cell (operation 511). For example, if the SIB 1 received from the network device (500) includes "redCap-ConfigCommon," the electronic device (101) can determine that the network device (500) of the first cell supports reduced capability. For example, if the SIB 1 received from the network device (500) does not include “redCap-ConfigCommon,” the electronic device (101) may determine that the network device (500) of the first cell does not support reduced capabilities.
[0098] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (101) determines that the network device (500) of the first cell supports reduced capability, the electronic device (101) may determine whether the network device (500) satisfies a specified transmission condition. For example, if the network device (500) of the first cell includes resource configuration information of an initial uplink bitmap (BWP) corresponding to the reduced capability and a physical random access channel (PRACH) corresponding to the reduced capability, the electronic device (101) may determine that the network device (500) of the first cell satisfies a specified transmission condition. For example, if the network device (500) of the first cell does not include resource configuration information of an initial uplink bitmap (BWP) corresponding to the reduced capability and / or a PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability, the electronic device (101) may determine that the network device (500) of the first cell does not satisfy a specified transmission condition.
[0099] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (101) determines that the network device (500) of the first cell satisfies a specified transmission condition, the electronic device (101) may transmit a PRACH preamble (e.g., Msg (message) 1) to the network device (500) based on resource configuration information of the PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability (operation 513). For example, if the electronic device (101) determines that the network device (500) of the first cell does not satisfy the specified transmission condition, the electronic device (101) may transmit a general PRACH preamble to the network device (500). The general PRACH preamble may be transmitted through resources allocated from the network device (500) that are at least partially different from the resources of the PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability.
[0100] According to one embodiment, the network device (500) may determine that the electronic device (101) supports the reduced capability when a PRACH preamble is received through a resource of a PRACH corresponding to the reduced capability. The network device (500) may transmit a RACH response message (e.g., Msg 2) corresponding to the PRACH preamble to the electronic device (101) (operation 515).
[0101] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may transmit an RRC connection request message (e.g., Msg 3) to the network device (500) for an RRC connection with the network device (500) (operation 517). For example, if the electronic device (101) determines that the network device (500) of the first cell does not satisfy a specified transmission condition, the electronic device (101) may transmit an RRC connection request message including status information supporting the reduced capability of the electronic device (101) to the network device (500).
[0102] According to one embodiment, when the network device (500) accepts an RRC connection with the electronic device (101), it may transmit an RRC connection setup message (e.g., Msg 4) to the electronic device (101) (operation 519).
[0103] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may determine that an RRC connection with the network device (500) has been established based on reception of an RRC connection setup message. In this case, the electronic device (101) may transmit an RRC connection setup complete message to the network device (500) (operation 521).
[0104] FIG. 6 is a flowchart (600) for cell reselection in an electronic device according to one embodiment. In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily sequential. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 6 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 or FIG. 2.
[0105] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 6, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1 or processor (200) of FIG. 2) may connect to a network in operation 601. For example, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to connect to a first cell supporting reduced capability or a second cell not supporting reduced capability, such as operations 301 to 311 of FIG. 3.
[0106] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) may determine whether the electronic device (101) is stationary in operation 603. For example, if the processor (200) determines that the electronic device (101) is not located within a specific cell (e.g., a first cell) for a specified period of time and is moving to another cell, the processor (200) may determine that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is in a moving state. For example, if the amount of movement of the electronic device (101) confirmed through a sensor (e.g., a movement sensor) of the electronic device (101) continuously exceeds a specified reference movement amount for a specified period of time, the processor (200) may determine that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is in a moving state.
[0107] For example, if the processor (200) determines that the electronic device (101) is located within a specific cell (e.g., the first cell) for a specified period of time, the processor (200) may determine that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is stationary. For example, if the amount of movement of the electronic device (101) confirmed through a sensor (e.g., a movement sensor) of the electronic device (101) is continuously less than a specified reference movement amount for a specified period of time, the processor (200) may determine that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is stationary.
[0108] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that the electronic device (101) is in a stationary state (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 603), in operation 605, the processor (200) may determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect exists. For example, if there is a result of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell supporting reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may determine whether there is a cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect exists based on the result of the cell search. For example, if there is no result of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell supporting reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may perform a cell search to determine whether there is a cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect exists. For example, the cell search may include a background scan.
[0109] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that there is a third cell supporting reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 605), in operation 607, the processor (200) may perform a cell reselection procedure to the third cell based on the first frequency bandwidth. For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to the first cell or the second cell, the processor (200) may determine whether the reception signal strength of the third cell supporting reduced capability exceeds a specified second reference strength. When the reception signal strength of the third cell exceeds the specified second reference strength, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the third cell. The processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to maintain a connection to a first cell supporting reduced capability or a second cell not supporting reduced capability when the reception signal strength of the third cell is less than or equal to a designated second reference strength. For example, the reception signal strength of the third cell may have a gain of a designated reference value (e.g., Qoffset_redcap) added to it so that cell reselection to a cell supporting reduced capability is prioritized. For example, the designated second reference strength (e.g., T_redcap_H) may be a reception signal strength set to identify (or select) an accessible cell for the electronic device (101) during cell reselection, and may include a value that is equal to or greater than the designated first reference strength. For example, the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be set (or updated) to correspond to the first frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability). For example, the cell reselection procedure may include a series of operations to move (or handover or switch) the connection cell of the electronic device (101) from the cell to which the electronic device (101) is connected (e.g., the first cell) to a cell detected through cell search (e.g., the third cell).
[0110] According to one embodiment, if an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that there is no cell supporting reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to (e.g., 'No' in operation 605), in operation 609, the processor may determine whether a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability is detected. For example, if there is a result of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may determine, based on the result of the cell search, whether there is a cell that does not support reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to. For example, if there is no result of a cell search performed within a specified reference time prior to the time at which it is determined whether a cell that does not support reduced capability is detected, the processor (200) may determine, through the cell search, whether there is a cell that does not support reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to.
[0111] In one embodiment, the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) may terminate the cell reselection process if no cell that supports reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected (e.g., 'NO' in operation 609). For example, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform cell searches to determine whether there are cells that support reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect or cells that do not support reduced capability.
[0112] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) detects a fourth cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 609), in operation 611, the processor (200) may perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell based on the second frequency bandwidth. For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to a first cell that supports reduced capability, the processor (200) may determine whether the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support reduced capability exceeds a specified second reference strength and whether the reception signal strength of the first cell is less than a specified third reference strength. The processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell when the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support the reduced capability exceeds a designated second reference strength and the reception signal strength of the first cell is less than a designated third reference strength. The processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to maintain the connection to the first cell when the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support the reduced capability is less than or equal to the designated second reference strength or the reception signal strength of the first cell is greater than or equal to the designated third reference strength. For example, the reception signal strength of the first cell may be added with a gain of a designated reference value (e.g., Qoffset_redcap) so that wireless communication via the cell that supports the reduced capability is prioritized. For example, the designated third reference strength (e.g., T_redcap_L) is the strength of a received signal set to determine whether to perform cell reselection from a cell to which the electronic device (101) is connected during cell reselection, and may include a value smaller than the designated second reference strength. For example, the frequency bandwidth (or maximum frequency band) supported by the electronic device (101) included in the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be set (or updated) to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0113] For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to a second cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capability, the processor (200) can determine whether the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support reduced capability exceeds a specified second reference strength. When the reception signal strength of the fourth cell that does not support reduced capability exceeds the specified second reference strength, the processor (200) can control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell. For example, a frequency bandwidth (or maximum frequency band) supported by the electronic device (101) included in the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device can be maintained at a value set to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0114] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that the electronic device (101) is not stationary (e.g., moving) (e.g., 'No' in operation 603), in operation 613, the processor (200) may determine whether a cell corresponding to the frequency bandwidth of the electronic device (101) is detected. For example, if the processor (200) determines that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is moving while the electronic device (101) is connected to a first cell supporting reduced capability, the processor (200) may determine whether there is a cell supporting reduced capability that the electronic device (101) can connect to through cell search history or cell search. For example, if the processor (200) determines that the movement state of the electronic device (101) is a moving state while the electronic device (101) is connected to a second cell that does not support reduced capabilities, the processor (200) can check whether there is a cell (or a normal cell) that does not support reduced capabilities to which the electronic device (101) can connect through the cell search history or cell search.
[0115] In one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) may terminate an embodiment for reselecting a cell if a cell corresponding to the frequency bandwidth of the electronic device (101) is not detected (e.g., 'No' in operation 613). For example, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform cell searches to determine whether there are cells supporting reduced capabilities or cells not supporting reduced capabilities that the electronic device (101) can access.
[0116] According to one embodiment, when a cell corresponding to the frequency bandwidth of the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) is detected (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 613), the processor (200) may perform a cell reselection procedure in operation 615. For example, when the electronic device (101) is connected to a first cell supporting reduced capability and a third cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the third cell based on the first frequency bandwidth. For example, when a cell supporting reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is not detected, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform a cell search to determine whether a cell supporting reduced capability exists. For example, the frequency bandwidth (or maximum frequency band) supported by the electronic device (101) included in the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be maintained at a value set to correspond to the first frequency bandwidth (or reduced capability).
[0117] For example, when a fourth cell that does not support the reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is detected while the electronic device (101) is connected to a second cell that does not support the reduced capability, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform a cell reselection procedure to the fourth cell based on the second frequency bandwidth. For example, when a cell that does not support the reduced capability to which the electronic device (101) can connect is not detected, the processor (200) may continuously or periodically perform a cell search to check whether a cell that does not support the reduced capability exists. For example, a frequency bandwidth (or maximum frequency band) supported by the electronic device (101) included in the capability (e.g., UE capability) of the electronic device may be maintained at a value set to correspond to the second frequency bandwidth.
[0118] FIG. 7 is a flowchart (700) for supporting a reduced capacity mode in an electronic device according to one embodiment. In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily sequential. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 7 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 or FIG. 2.
[0119] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 7, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1 or processor (200) of FIG. 2) may, in operation 701, determine whether a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied. For example, the processor (200) may determine whether a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied based on at least one of a temperature of the electronic device (101), a remaining battery level of the electronic device (101), or an application or function running on the electronic device (101).
[0120] For example, the processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied when the temperature of the electronic device (101) exceeds a specified reference temperature. The processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capability is not satisfied when the temperature of the electronic device (101) is below a specified reference temperature.
[0121] For example, the processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capacity is satisfied when the remaining battery capacity of the electronic device (101) is less than or equal to a specified reference battery capacity. The processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capacity is not satisfied when the remaining battery capacity of the electronic device (101) exceeds a specified reference battery capacity.
[0122] For example, the processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied when an application or function related to reduced capability is running (or is running) on the electronic device (101). The processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capability is not satisfied when an application or function related to reduced capability is not running on the electronic device (101).
[0123] For example, the processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied if an application or function that limits reduced capability is not executed on the electronic device (101). The processor (200) may determine that a specified condition related to reduced capability is not satisfied if an application or function that limits reduced capability is executed (or is being executed) on the electronic device (101).
[0124] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that a specified condition related to reduced capability is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 701), in operation 703, the electronic device may set the operating mode of the electronic device to the reduced capability mode. For example, when the operating mode of the electronic device is set to the reduced capability mode, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to connect to a first cell supporting reduced capability or a second cell not supporting reduced capability, as in operations 301 to 311 of FIG. 3.
[0125] For example, when the operating mode of the electronic device (200) is set to a reduced capability mode, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform cell reselection to a third cell that supports reduced capability or a fourth cell that does not support reduced capability, such as operations 601 to 615 of FIG. 6.
[0126] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 200)) determines that the specified condition related to the reduced capability is not satisfied (e.g., 'NO' in operation 701), in operation 705, the electronic device may set the operation mode of the electronic device to the normal mode. For example, if the operation mode of the electronic device is set to the normal mode, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to connect to a second cell that does not support the reduced capability through cell search. For example, if the operation mode of the electronic device is set to the normal mode, the processor (200) may control the communication circuit (210) to perform cell reselection to a fourth cell that does not support the reduced capability through cell search.

For example, the electronic device (101) may easily change at least one of a frequency bandwidth, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) variable, a radio link channel (RLC) variable, or paging information related to the subscriber identification modules not used for data communication to correspond to the reduced capability mode by setting (or switching) the stack of subscriber identification modules not used for data communication to the reduced capability mode. For example, the stack of subscriber identification modules used for data communication among the plurality of subscriber identification modules (SIMs) may be set to a normal mode.
[0128] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may set a stack of multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) provided in the electronic device (101) to a normal mode if a specified condition associated with reduced capability is not satisfied.
