Description

[0001] PLASTIC POT

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The present invention relates to a plastic pot, such as a plant pot, provided with roughening on the pot rim. The pot is specifically suitable for use in combination with a mesh material that is stretched over the pot. The specific rim ensures that the mesh material stays sufficiently in place and does not slide off the pot, during all the handling the pot must endure (from cultivation to the end consumer).

[0004] BACKGROUND

[0005] Plastic pots are known in the art and are used, for example, for growing plants. Some plants are naturally susceptible to infections, such as infections by insects. For example, potted orchids are very vulnerable to infections by Lyprauta Cambria, Proceroplatus trinidadensis and Lyprauta chacoensis Keroplatidae family), also known as pot worm in common parlance. More specifically, it is the larvae that are harmful to the plant, as they feed on the young roots and the soft plant material. The economic damage from such infections, especially in orchids, is significant. The symptoms start with superficial damage to the roots. The root tips are particularly affected, turning black and beginning to rot internally. Just above the damaged area, the roots produce large numbers of new branches. This ultimately results in a reduced number of flower stems and a longer vegetative stage. Root damage can also create entry points for other pathogens.

[0006] To prevent larvae of the genus Lyprauta or other harmful insects from multiplying in the plant pot and having a detrimental effect, some plant pots are equipped with a mesh material. This mesh material is designed in such a way that it forms a non- penetrable or difficult-to-penetrate physical barrier for the insects, thus preventing them from laying eggs in the plant pot. In this way, the larvae are also kept out. The mesh material is usually placed around the pot wall and shields the inside of the pot containing potting soil and / or bark, as well as the plant part. Such a construction with mesh material may also be used to prevent weed seeds, for example originating from outdoor or field cultivation environments, from entering the pot. The construction prevents such seeds from entering the pot where they could further develop into weeds. Another advantage of providing mesh material over the pot opening is that substrate material cannot be lost from the pot (even during intense handling).

[0007] However, a disadvantage of this mesh material is that it must remain correctly positioned to be effective against the harmful influence of insects. The mesh material is usually pulled around the pot mechanically. However, the mesh material tends to not stay in place correctly and slides off the pot. When the mesh material is no longer correctly positioned, the risk of infections increases.

[0008] The purpose of the present invention is to offer a high-quality pot, preferably at a low cost, that ensures the mesh material, which forms a mechanical barrier against infections such as those with pot worm, remains correctly positioned. The aim of the present invention is also to offer an easy-to-handle pot (manually or mechanically), suitable for all types of plant cultivation, including Phaleanopsis. Additionally, the purpose of the present invention is to offer a pot that saves material during production, which is beneficial for the environment and cost-efficient.

[0009] SUMMARY

[0010] To this end, the invention provides a pot according to claim 1. The pot is provided with a roughening or form elements such as a relief structure on the top and / or undersurface of the pot rim, preferably at least the lower edge. This specific rim ensures that a mesh material stretched over the pot wall, for example to deter insects, remains sufficiently in place and does not slide off the pot, during all operations the pot must endure (from cultivation to the end consumer). Specific embodiments are discussed in the dependent claims. A particular embodiment is described in claim 34, wherein a combination of pot, plant, and mesh material is described.

[0025] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0026] In a first aspect, the present invention comprises a plastic pot comprising a base and a pot wall extending therefrom, wherein the wall at the distal end terminates in a pot rim, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall and wherein the pot rim is provided on the top and / or undersurface with a surface roughening or form elements such as a relief structure. A surface roughening is the process of making the material from which the surface is made, such as plastic, more textured. By providing a roughening or form elements, a physical barrier will be provided on the pot, preventing a mesh material that is provided on the pot from sliding off the pot entirely or almost entirely.

[0027] In one embodiment, the roughening or the form elements are effectuated on the pot rim by means of a laser treatment during the production of the pot or after its production. In another embodiment, this happens via structures provided in a mold. In yet another embodiment, this is done through a manual process after producing the pot, for example by sanding it. It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the ways in which the roughening or the form elements have been applied as described above are non-limiting examples.

[0028] In one embodiment, the roughening or the form elements are present on the entire pot rim, on the upper and / or lower side, preferably at least on the lower side. In another embodiment, the roughening or the form elements are also present on the pot wall. In yet another embodiment, the roughening or the form elements are present in certain zones of the pot rim, on the upper and / or lower side, preferably at least on the lower side. In one embodiment, only the pot rim, preferably the lower side of the pot rim, is provided with a roughening and / or form elements, wherein the latter are not present on the pot wall.

[0029] In one embodiment, the upper edge of the pot rim is provided with a roughening and the lower edge with form elements. In another embodiment, the upper edge of the pot rim is provided with form elements and the lower edge with a roughening. In one embodiment, the lower edge is provided with a combination of a roughening and form elements. In one embodiment, the upper edge is provided with a combination of a roughening and form elements. In one embodiment, both the upper and lower edge are provided with both a roughening and form elements.

[0030] In one embodiment, the roughening is present over the entire pot rim. In another embodiment, the roughening is present in certain zones of the pot rim, at irregular or regular distances from one another. In yet another embodiment, there are certain zones with roughening and other zones with form elements.

[0031] Preferably, the pot rim will extend in a substantially perpendicular direction from the pot wall.

[0032] In an embodiment, the thickness of the pot rim (measured as a transverse crosssection) is between 0.1 and 10 mm, more preferably between 0.1 and 5 mm, more preferably between 0.2 and 2.5 mm, more preferably between 0.4 and 1 mm. In one embodiment the pot rim has the same thickness over the entire rim. In another embodiment of the rim, the pot rim tapers with increasing width. The distal end of the pot rim is thicker than the proximal end. In another embodiment, the pot rim tapers with decreasing thickness. Here, the distal end of the pot rim is narrower than the proximal end. In yet another embodiment, the pot rim has only one thickening at the distal end, preferably carried out as an additional flange of the pot rim. In one embodiment, this thickening is 0.1 to 1 mm, preferably 0.3 to 0.7 mm, more preferably 0.3 to 0.5 mm, thicker than the proximal end. In one embodiment, the thickening, implemented as an additional flange, occupies a maximum of 50% of the length of the pot rim, more preferably a maximum of 40%, more preferably a maximum of 30%, more preferably a maximum of 25%.

[0033] In one embodiment, the pot rim at its thickest point will be at least 1%, more preferably at least 2%, more preferably at least 3 to 5%, more preferably 5 to 10%, more preferably 10 to 20%, more preferably 20 to 30%, even more preferably 30 to 50% thicker than at its narrowest point.

[0034] Thus, in one embodiment, the thickest part of the pot rim can be between 0.4 and 1.0 mm, preferably between 0.6 and 0.8 mm, while the narrowest part of the pot rim is between 0.3 and 0.6 mm. The thickening of the pot rim can form an additional barrier for the mesh material.

[0035] In another or further embodiment, the pot rim is provided with a plurality of lobes. Lobes can form an additional barrier for the mesh material.

[0036] This also still allows a plurality of pots to be placed closer together (lobe versus indentation), resulting in space savings and allowing more plants to be grown in the same space.

[0037] In one embodiment, the lobes are provided at regular intervals on the pot rim.

[0038] In one embodiment, the lobes extend in line with the pot rim and are therefore also in a substantially perpendicular direction relative to the pot wall.

[0039] In an alternative embodiment, the lobes extend in a substantially perpendicular direction from the pot rim and are thus in a substantially parallel direction relative to the pot wall.

[0040] In a preferred embodiment, the pot rim contains 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to even 10, 15, 20 or more lobes.

[0041] The lobes can all have the same shape and size, or be different. In a preferred embodiment, the lobes are evenly distributed over the entire pot rim. In a further preferred embodiment, all lobes are uniform in shape and size.

[0042] In one embodiment, the lobes are rectangular, semicircular, or rounded, or a combination thereof such as a rectangle with rounded corners.

[0043] In one embodiment, the lobes are present on the pot rim interrupted by indentations. The indentations can all have the same shape and size, or be different. In a preferred embodiment, the indentations are evenly distributed over the entire pot rim. In a further preferred embodiment, all indentations are uniform.

[0044] The combination of lobes and indentations forms a serrated edge, which provides a physical barrier for a tubular mesh material that is drawn over the pot rim. The lobes ensures that it does not slide away and that the mesh material stays in place.

[0045] In an embodiment according to the present invention, the rim thickness at the lobes will be at least equal to or greater than the nominal thickness of the rest of the pot rim, for example at the indentations. In another embodiment, the thickness of the lobes will be smaller than the thickness of the pot rim at the indentations.

[0046] In one embodiment, at least a number of lobes are provided with thickenings at the bottom. In one embodiment, all lobes are provided with a thickening. These thickenings provide additional grip points for the mesh, thereby further preventing the mesh from slipping way. In one embodiment, the thickening covers the entire lobe. In another embodiment, the thickening covers only part of the lobe. In yet another (or further) embodiment, the thickenings consist of one or more patterns and / or interruptions on the lobes. These patterns may include dots, small spheres, lines, ribs, or other patterns that will be apparent to one skilled in the art.

[0047] In one embodiment, the lobes will have the same length.

[0048] In one embodiment, the ratio of the length LI of a lobe to the length L2 of the indentation next to the lobe will be between 1 : 10 and 10: 1.

[0049] In one embodiment, the ratio of the length LI of a lobe to the length L2 of the indentation next to the lobe (the ratio L1:L2) will be between 5: 1 and 1 :5, such as 5: 1, 4: 1, 3: 1, 2: 1, 1: 1, 1:2, 1 :3, 1 :4, 1:5.

[0050] In one embodiment, the length LI of a lobe is at least 1 mm; such as 1.0 mm; 1.1 mm; 1.2 mm; 1.3 mm; 1.4 mm; 1.5 mm; 1.6 mm, 1.7 mm; 1.8 mm; 1.9 mm; 2.0 mm, 2.1 mm; 2.2 mm; 2.3 mm; 2.4 mm; 2.5 mm; 2.6 mm, 2.7 mm; 2.8 mm; 2.9 mm; 3.0 mm; 3.1 mm; 3.2 mm; 3.3 mm; 3.4 mm; 3.5 mm; 3.6 mm, 3.7 mm; 3.8 mm; 3.9 mm; 4.0 mm, 4.1 mm; 4.2 mm; 4.3 mm; 4.4 mm; 4.5 mm; 4.6 mm, 4.7 mm; 4.8 mm; 4.9 mm; 5.0 mm; 6.0 mm; 7.0 mm; 8.0 mm; 9.0 mm; 10.0 mm; 11.0 mm; 12.0 mm; 13.0 mm; 14.0 mm; 15.0 mm; 16.0 mm; 17.0 mm; 18.0 mm; 19.0 mm; 20.0 mm, etc. In one embodiment, the length L2 of an indentation next to the lobe is at least 1 mm; such as 1.0 mm; 1.1 mm; 1.2 mm; 1.3 mm; 1.4 mm; 1.5 mm; 1.6 mm, 1.7 mm; 1.8 mm; 1.9 mm; 2.0 mm, 2.1 mm; 2.2 mm; 2.3 mm; 2.4 mm; 2.5 mm; 2.6 mm, 2.7 mm; 2.8 mm; 2.9 mm; 3.0 mm; 3.1 mm; 3.2 mm; 3.3 mm; 3.4 mm; 3.5 mm; 3.6 mm, 3.7 mm; 3.8 mm; 3.9 mm; 4.0 mm, 4.1 mm; 4.2 mm; 4.3 mm; 4.4 mm; 4.5 mm; 4.6 mm, 4.7 mm; 4.8 mm; 4.9 mm; 5.0 mm; 6.0 mm; 7.0 mm; 8.0 mm; 9.0 mm; 10.0 mm; 11.0 mm; 12.0 mm; 13.0 mm; 14.0 mm; 15.0 mm; 16.0 mm; 17.0 mm; 18.0 mm; 19.0 mm; 20.0 mm, etc.

[0051] In one embodiment, the width Bl of a lobe is at least 0.50 mm; such as 0.50 mm; 0.55 mm; 0.60 mm; 0.65 mm; 0.70 mm; 0.75 mm; 0.80 mm; 0.85 mm; 0.90 mm;

[0055] In a further or another embodiment, form elements are provided on the outwardly facing wall portion of the pot wall. These form elements are raised with respect to the wall surface, and present along the entire circumference of the pot wall. Again, these can help in holding up the mesh material.

[0056] In one embodiment, the form elements will be interrupted in the longitudinal direction of the pot and therefore not continuously present over the entire length of the pot wall. Such a pattern can be, for example, a dotted line, or a vertical or horizontal dash, each time raised relative to the pot wall. This interruption ensures that a friction-forming element is present on the pot wall.

[0057] In one embodiment, the form elements are configured to form a barrier for a tubular mesh material that can be stretched around the pot.

[0058] In one embodiment of the plastic pot, the form elements are located at a distance from the pot rim that is at most 1 / 3 of the total length of the pot, and the form elements are provided along the entire circumference of the pot wall. In a preferred embodiment according to the present invention, the wall thickness at the height of the flow elements will be at most three times the nominal wall thickness. The nominal wall thickness is defined here as the wall thickness at which the mold's core is kept in the desired axial position during the injection molding process.

[0062] Preferably, the intermediate space at the distal end will be provided with an upstanding wall extending in the direction of the base. This upstanding wall forms a rim at the height of the circumferential skirt, which preferably has a length between 0.2 and 2 mm, preferably between 0.5 and 1 mm. This rim of the circumferential skirt also serves to reinforce the pot.

[0063] In one embodiment, the invention relates to a plastic pot comprising a base and a pot wall extending therefrom, wherein the wall at the distal end terminates in a pot rim, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall and wherein the pot rim is provided with a plurality of lobes, wherein the wall at a height H is provided with a circumferential skirt attached to the wall, wherein the rim of the circumferential skirt is provided with a plurality of lobes. [0071] In one embodiment, this pot is round, rectangular, or square. In another embodiment, the base can be square, and the pot rim is circular. This last pot shape is also known as a squircle [in Dutch: 'cirkant']. In yet another embodiment, the base is circular and the pot rim is square. It will be clear to one skilled in the art that the present invention relates both to a pot where the pot rim and the rim of the circumferential skirt are provided with a serration with lobes; as well as to a pot where only the pot rim or the rim of the circumferential skirt is provided with lobes. The pot rim can also be provided with a roughening or relief. The present invention thus also explicitly relates to a plastic pot comprising a base and a pot wall extending therefrom, wherein the wall is provided at a height H with a circumferential skirt attached to the wall and wherein the rim of the circumferential skirt is provided with a plurality of lobes. It goes without saying that the features of the lobes and / or indentations as described above also apply to this specific embodiment.

[0072] The pot according to the present invention can be provided with any type of base known in the prior art. Preferably, the base is provided with one or more recesses that can drain excess water and promote root growth.

[0073] In one embodiment, the base includes a flat bottom part and a raised area. In a further embodiment, this raised area has the shape of a truncated conical elevation. In one embodiment, the raised area defines a wall that is provided with multiple slots that provide aeration and drying of the plant. In a further embodiment, the wall of the raised area is provided with protrusions along the longitudinal side of the slots. This allows the roots to be guided around the slots, increasing the likelihood that the roots will not grow out of the plant pot through a slot, but will instead continue to grow in a circular pattern within the plant pot. The base according to this aspect thus provides an improved environment for the root ball. In one embodiment, the flat bottom part of the base is also provided with one or more slots. In a further embodiment, these one or more slots include a thickening. In one embodiment, the pot includes a raised base as described in NL2008780.

[0074] In a further aspect, the present invention also relates to a plastic pot according to one of the embodiments as described above, provided with a plant, wherein a mesh material is stretched over the pot and pot rim, wherein the mesh material at least partially covers the top of the plant pot. In a preferred embodiment, the mesh material covers the entire top and closes like a diaphragm over the plant part or the plant. In one embodiment, this mesh material is tubular in shape. In another or further embodiment, the mesh material is attached to the plastic pot via ultrasonic welding. This ensures an additional attachment to the pot. The mesh material is provided with openings that have a diameter that is impermeable to insects, such as those from the family Keroplatidae. This prevents these insects from laying eggs in the pot, and no larvae are formed that could subsequently damage the plant.

[0075] In one embodiment, the plant is a plant of the genus Phalaenopsis, preferably from the family Orchidaceae, or is a plant selected from the Cacatacea, Crassulaceae, Ficus, Aloe, Begoniaceae, Pteridophyta, Pelargonium, Anthurium, Bromeliaceae. It goes without saying that this list is not limiting and that other plants can also be grown in the pots as described in the present invention. In principle, the invention is applicable to any plant that is vulnerable to one or more infections by insects or their larval stage, or to prevent the intrusion of unwanted seeds into the plant pot.

[0076] The pot according to the present invention is preferably manufactured from a plastic material and by means of an injection molding process, rotational molding or vacuum forming. Materials suitable for injection molding will therefore preferably be used, such as, but not limited to: polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, or mixtures thereof. Additives and auxiliaries can also be added.

[0077] In a final aspect, the present invention also relates to a method for growing plants, such as plants of the genus Phalaenopsis, wherein a plant is grown in a plant pot as described above. The method includes, among other things, planting a plant in the pot, or providing a plant part in the pot, after which a mesh material is pulled around the pot wall, preferably mechanically. This mesh material also covers the plant pot opening and will close like a diaphragm around the plant or plant embryo, to protect it against infections from insects such as pot worm.

[0078] The present invention also relates to a kit comprising at least a pot as described herein and a mesh material, suitable for stretching over the pot rim.

[0079] DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0080] The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to the following figures, without otherwise being limited thereto.

[0081] Figure 1A shows an embodiment of a pot 14 according to the present invention where the undersurface 26 of the pot rim 6 is provided with a roughening 27. The roughening ensures that a mesh material stretched over the pot stays in the correct position, even as the pot undergoes multiple handling operations. The roughening may also be present on the top side of the pot rim (not shown).

[0082] Figure IB shows an embodiment of a pot 14 according to the present invention with roughening 27 on the pot rim.

[0083] Figure 1C shows an embodiment of a pot 14 according to the present invention where the pot rim 6 is provided with lobes 10 and a roughening 27.

[0084] Figure ID shows an embodiment of a pot 14 according to the present invention where the pot rim 6 is provided with lobes 10 and a roughening 27.

[0085] Figure IE shows an embodiment of a pot 14 according to the present invention wherein the upper surface 28 of the pot rim is provided with form elements. In this embodiment, these are studs.

[0086] Figure 2A shows a plastic pot 14, comprising a base 1 and a pot wall 2 extending therefrom. The pot wall 2 ends at the distal end in a pot rim 6, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall 2. The pot rim 6 extends in a substantially perpendicular direction from the pot wall 2. The form elements 22 are uniform in shape and size. The form elements present on the pot wall 2 are intermittently present along the entire circumference of the pot wall. Mesh material can be attached to these form elements. This mesh material can form a physical barrier for a plant in a particular pot. The form elements ensures that it does not slide away and that the mesh material stays in place.

[0087] Figure 2B shows a plastic pot 14 according to the present invention with a pot rim 6 that is provided with a plurality of lobes 10. The lobes 10 are provided at regular intervals from each other on the pot rim 6. The pot rim 6 extends in a substantially perpendicular direction from the pot wall 2 and the lobes 10 extend in line with the pot rim 6. All lobes 10 are uniform in shape and size and have the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners. The lobes present on the pot rim 10 are interrupted by indentations 12. The indentations 12 are all the same shape and size and are evenly distributed along the entire pot rim. The combination of lobes and indentations creates a serrated edge, which provides a physical barrier to a mesh material being pulled over the pot rim. The lobes ensures that it does not slide away and that the mesh material stays in place. This function is similar to that of the form elements 22.

[0088] The form elements 22 can serve to secure a mesh material to.

[0089] Figure 2C and D show an embodiment of a pot 14 according to the present invention with raised form elements 22.

[0090] Figures 3-5 show a possible embodiment of a pot 14, wherein the lobes 10 extend in line with the pot rim 6. Such an embodiment of the pot rim may be combined with the pot according to the present invention wherein the outwardly facing wall portion of the pot wall is provided with form elements which are raised relative to the wall surface, and are present along the entire circumference of the pot wall. Figures 3-5 show a plastic pot, comprising a base 1 and a pot wall 2 extending therefrom. The pot wall 2 terminates at the distal end in a pot rim 6, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall 2 and wherein the pot rim 6 is provided with a plurality of lobes 10.

[0091] The rim thickness at the lobes 10 is equal to the nominal thickness of the rest of the pot rim 6. The base 1 comprises several openings 8, provided for water evacuation and also serving as air holes. In the embodiment shown, all lobes 10 have the same length, wherein the length LI of a lobe is 3 mm. The length L2 of an indentation next to the lobe is 2 mm. The width Bl of a lobe is 0.75 mm (see for example figure 4B). It goes without saying that these dimensions are merely examples and that other dimensions are perfectly possible, as well as that the lengths of the lobes and indentations differ. The base 1 includes a flat bottom part 16 and a raised area 17 in the form of a truncated conical elevation that is provided with openings. The raised area 17 defines a wall 18 that is provided with multiple slots 19 that ensure aeration and drying of the plant. By providing the wall 18 of the raised area with delimiting elements 20 on the longitudinal side of the aeration slots 19, the roots can be guided around the slots 19. This increases the likelihood that the roots will not grow through a slot 19 out of the plant pot, but will instead continue to grow within the plant pot. The base according to this aspect thus provides an improved environment for the root ball. The flat bottom part of the base is also provided with slots 21.

[0092] Figures 6-7 show a possible embodiment of a pot 14 where the rim thickness at the lobes 10 is greater than the nominal thickness of the rest of the pot rim 6. Such an embodiment of the pot rim may be combined with the pot according to the present invention wherein the outwardly facing wall portion of the pot wall is provided with form elements which are raised relative to the wall surface, and are present along the entire circumference of the pot wall. The lobes 10 are provided with a thickening 15 at the bottom (lightly shaded in figures 6B and 7B). These thickenings 15 provide extra grip points for the mesh, thereby further preventing the mesh from slipping way. The thickening 15 covers the entire lobe. All lobes 10 have the same length, where the length LI of a lobe is 3 mm, the length L2 of an indentation next to the lobe is 2 mm, the width Bl of a lobe is 0.75 mm (see figure 7B).

[0093] Figures 8-10 show an embodiment of a pot 14, where the pot wall 2 is provided with a circumferential skirt 3 that is attached to the wall 2 via an intermediate space 4 which is provided at the distal end with an upstanding wall 7, where this upstanding wall forms a rim at the circumferential skirt and where both the pot rim 6 and the aforementioned rim at the circumferential skirt 7 are provided with a plurality of lobes. Such an embodiment of the pot wall can be combined with the pot according to the present invention wherein the outwardly facing wall portion of the pot wall is provided with form elements which are raised relative to the wall surface, and are present along the entire circumference of the pot wall. In this embodiment, the lobes at the pot rim 10 extend in a substantially perpendicular direction with respect to the pot rim 6. The pot is also provided with flow elements 5 located in the intermediate space 4 of the circumferential skirt 3. These flow elements primarily serve to promote flow during the injection molding process. In this embodiment, the rim at the circumferential skirt 7 is also provided with a plurality of lobes 11. The lobes 11 on this rim 7 all have the same shape and size. The lobes are evenly distributed over the entire rim 7 and are all uniform in shape and size. The lobes 11 are shaped like rectangles with rounded corners and are interrupted by indentations 13. The indentations 13 all have the same shape and size and are evenly distributed over the entire rim at the circumferential skirt. The combination of lobes and indentations forms a serrated edge at the circumferential skirt, which acts as a physical barrier for a mesh material that is pulled over the pot rim and this rim of the circumferential skirt. The lobes at the pot rim and at the level of the rim of the circumferential skirt ensure that the mesh material does not slip away and stays in place. All lobes 11 of the rim of the circumferential skirt have the same length, wherein the length L3 of a lobe is 1.5 mm. The length L4 of an indentation next to the lobe is also 1.5 mm. The width B2 of a lobe is 1 mm. This base is provided with multiple base surfaces 9 and base openings 8.

[0094] Figure 11 shows a base of a pot, where the base includes a flat bottom part 16 and a raised area 17 in the form of a truncated conical elevation that is provided with openings. The flat bottom part of the base is also provided with slots 21.

[0095] Figure 12 shows a base of a pot, where the base is provided with base openings 8 and base surfaces 9, where the base surfaces have a rounded shape.

[0096] Figures 13A and 13B show cross-sections of possible embodiments of the pot 14. Figure 13A shows that in this example embodiment, the cross-section of the raised area 17 decreases in a radial-angular plane in the direction of the axis AZ. Figure 13B shows another embodiment of the pot 14, with two base levels 9 and thus two raised areas 17. The raised areas 17 decrease in a radial-angular plane in the direction of the axis AZ.

[0097] Figure 14A shows a top view of the base. A slot 19 is laterally bounded with a protrusion 23. Such a protrusion is provided with a side of a specific length X that adjoins and is in line with the respective long side of the slot to which the protrusion adjoins. The distance Y between the sides of the protrusions adjoining and in line with the long side of a specific slot is narrowed in a radial direction over at least a portion of the length X of the sides. Figure 14B shows a detail of a slot 19 having adjacent protrusions 23a, 23b. The protrusions are wider at the proximal end 24 relative to the pot wall than at the distal end 25. Figure 15A shows a plastic pot 14, comprising a base 1 and a pot wall 2 extending therefrom. The pot wall 2 ends at the distal end in a pot rim 6, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall 2. The pot rim 6 extends in a substantially perpendicular direction from the pot wall 2. The form elements 22 are uniform in shape and size. In this embodiment the form elements are rectangular. The form elements present on the pot wall 2 are intermittently present along the entire circumference of the pot wall. Mesh material can be attached to these form elements. This mesh material can form a physical barrier for a plant in a particular pot. The form elements ensures that it does not slide away and that the mesh material stays in place.

[0098] Figure 15B shows a plastic pot 14, comprising a base 1 and a pot wall 2 extending therefrom. The pot wall 2 terminates at the distal end in a pot rim 6, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall 2 and wherein the pot rim 6 is provided with a plurality of lobes 10. The form elements 22 can serve to secure a mesh material to. The form elements in this embodiment are crosses.

[0099] Figure 16 shows a detail of a rim of a plastic pot comprising a pot wall 2 which ends in a pot rim 6, which extends in a direction away from the pot wall 2 and wherein the pot rim 6 is provided with a thickening 29. The thickening 29 extends in line with the pot rim 6 and is uniform in thickness (DI). The thickening provides an extra barrier for a mesh material being pulled over the pot rim. By thickening only the distal end, material is saved without losing strength or the extra barrier.
