[0002] The present disclosure generally relates to systems, assemblies, and methods for a playard, and more particularly relates to accessories for a playard.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] A playard is a type of framed enclosure that provides a safe and comfortable space for an infant or young child (hereinafter referred to as a “child”) to both sleep and play. A bassinet is a framed enclosure that generally is configured to provide a safe and comfortable space for a child, and support occupants while sleeping or laying down. Playards generally have a greater depth or higher sidewalls than bassinets. Playards and bassinets generally have a mattress providing a support surface for the child. Soft goods assemblies, such as fabric, mesh, or other material can be used to enclose an interior space in a bassinet or a playard. The soft goods assemblies can include sidewalls having some transparency such that caregivers can watch children inside of the bassinet or playard.
[0004] It is desirable to provide products and attachments that are transformable and compatible with a playard to enhance the functionality and usefulness of the playard.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] According to one aspect, a playard assembly includes a playard with a frame including top rails connected to legs. Softgoods are coupled to the frame, defining sidewalls and a base of the playard. A playard accessory is connectable to and removeable from the frame, the playard accessory including a support frame and accessory softgoods connected to the support frame. The accessory softgoods defining sidewalls, a base portion, and an open top portion of the playard accessory. The playard accessory is attachable to the playard in a first configuration with the base portion positioned above the top rails, and in a second configuration with the base portion positioned below the top rails and within an interior of the playard.
[0006] In one aspect, the playard accessory further includes at least one clip configured to connect the playard accessory to the frame of the playard.

FIG. 1 B is a front view of the playard accessory 12 transitioning into a second configuration to attach to the playard 10. FIGS. 1A-1B will be discussed together. The playard 10 is a type of framed enclosure that provides a safe and comfortable space for an infant or young child (hereinafter referred to as a “child”) to both sleep and play. Playards generally include amattress (not shown) providing a comfortable support surface for the child. Softgoods 14, such as fabric, mesh, or other material, can be used to enclose and define an interior space of the playard 10. In some examples, the softgoods 14 can include sidewalls having some transparency such that caregivers can watch children inside of the playard 10. The playard 10 is configured to be a lightweight playard 10 with a rigid structure that is easily collapsible and expandable, enabling ease of use as well as transportation.
[0066] The playard 10 includes a frame 16 and the softgoods 14 are connectable to and removable from the frame 16. The frame 16 is a rigid support structure that is expandable and collapsible, and the frame 16 provides connection points and support for the softgoods 14. When the softgoods 14 is connected to the frame 16 and the frame 16 is in the expanded configuration, the softgoods 14 define the sidewalls of the playard 10 as well as the base 18 of the playard 10. In some examples, the base 18 of the softgoods 14 can be positioned above or offset from a ground or supporting surface upon which the playard 10 is supported, and a mattress can be placed on an interior of the base 18 of the softgoods 14. The frame 16 can include a plurality of legs 20 and a plurality of top rails 22, each of which are connected together to define the frame 16. Specifically, in some examples, the frame 16 can include four legs 20 and four top rails 22, such that the playard 10 includes four sidewalls and a base 18 defining a generally rectangular interior space for the child to sleep and play.
[0067] The playard accessory 12 is connectable to and removeable from the playard 10. Further, the playard accessory 12 is connectable to the playard 10 in more than one configuration such that the playard accessory 12 can be used as a bassinet and / or a canopy for the playard 10. As such, the playard accessory 12 is a component that adds versatility to the playard 10 while minimizing extra costs. The playard accessory 12 includes a support frame 24 and accessory softgoods 26 connected to the support frame 24. The support frame 24 can be a rigid structure that the accessory softgoods 26 connect to, defining the sidewalls 28, base portion 30, and top portion 32 of the playard accessory 12. In some examples, the sidewalls 28 can have any desired shape and extend around the playard accessory 12, connecting the base portion 30 to the top portion 32. The base portion 30 is a surface of the playard accessory 12 that is configured to support a child in one configuration and provide a canopy or cover in another configuration. The top portion 32 is an open end of the playard accessory 12 that extends generally parallel to the base portion 30, the top portion 32 is positioned opposite the base portion 30, and the top portion 32 is connected to the base portion 30 through the sidewalls 28. The playard accessory 12 also includes at least one clip 34 connected to the support frame 24 adjacent or at the top portion 32 of the playard accessory 12. The at least one clip 34 is configured to facilitate attachment of the playard accessory 12 to the playard 10.
[0068] In FIG. 1A, the playard accessory 12 is attached to the playard 10 in a first configuration, with the first configuration being the canopy configuration. Specifically, the at least one clip 34 is connected to the support frame 24 adjacent or at the top portion 32 along the longer sides of the top portion 32, such that the playard accessory 12 includes two clips 34. In other examples, the playard accessory 12 could include more than two clips 34, and the clips 34 can be positioned along any of the sides of the top portion 32. The at least one clip 34 is connected to the top rails 22 of the frame 16 of the playard 10, securing the playard accessory 12 to the uppermost surface or rail of the playard 10. With the playard accessory 12 connected to the playard 10, the support frame 24 extends upwards away from the top rail 22, such that the accessory softgoods 26 creates an arched cover or canopy over the top open end of the playard 10. Specifically, the sidewalls 28 and the base portion 30 create the arched cover or canopy over the base 18 and overall interior of the playard 10, with the sidewalls 28 and base portion 30 being positioned fully outside the interior of the playard 10. In the first / canopy configuration, the playard accessory 12 is configured to provide shade and cover from rain / debris for the child situated within the interior of the playard 10. In some examples, the sidewalls 28 can include a mesh portion that allows airflow through the playard accessory 12.
[0069] In FIG. 1 B, the playard accessory 12 is attached to the playard 10 in a second configuration, with the second configuration being the bassinet configuration. Specifically, the at least one clip 34 is connected to the top rails 22 of the frame 16 of the playard 10, securing the playard accessory 12 to the uppermost surface or rail of the playard 10. With the playard accessory 12 connected to the playard 10, the support frame 24 extends inwards towards the interior and base 18 of the playard 10, such that the accessory softgoods 26 create an arched bassinet or supporting structure within the frame 16 of the playard 10. Specifically, the sidewalls 28 and the base portion 30 create the arched bassinet or supporting structure that is positioned below the top rails 22, closer to the base 18 than the top rails 22 are positioned. In the bassinet configuration, the sidewalls 28 and the base portion 30 are positioned at least partially within the sidewalls and interior of the playard 10. In some examples, in the bassinet configuration, the sidewalls 28 and the base portion 30 are positioned fully within the sidewalls and interior of the playard 10. In the second / bassinet configuration, the base portion 30 of the playard accessory 12 is configured to provide a supporting surface, that is elevated above the base 18 of the playard 10, for the child to sit and be supported. In some embodiments, the at least one clip 34 may be rotatable, pivotable, or otherwise adjustable for example by rotating about 90 degrees or rotating about 180 degrees, to be able to attach to the top rails 34 in the two orientations of FIGS. 1A and 1 B. In other embodiments, the at least one clip 34 may include one clip for the first / canopy configuration and another clip for the second / bassinet configuration.
[0070] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of an activity center 36. FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the activity center 36 within the playard 10. FIGS. 2-3 will be discussed together. The activity center 36 is an assembly in which a child can sit and be supported within while practicing standing and / or jumping up and down. The activity center 36 can be used as a standalone unit (FIG. 2) or the activity center 36 can be used and placed within the playard 10 (FIG. 3) for extra protection for the child. The activity center 36 includes a plurality of legs 38, suspension straps 40, a seat 42, and an armrest 44. The plurality of legs 38 are configured to contact the supporting surface at one end to support and position the seat 42 above the supporting surface. The plurality of legs 38 extend upwards away from the supporting surface in a vertical or angled direction, and the other end (top end) of the plurality of legs 38 are connected to the suspension straps 40. In some examples, as illustrated, the plurality of legs 38 can include three legs 38 equally spaced from each other. In other examples, the plurality of legs 38 can include more than three legs 38, equally or non-equally spaced from each other. Further, the number of suspension straps 40 is equal to the number of legs 38 in the overall assembly of the activity center 36.
[0071] The suspension straps 40 are resilient straps or cords that have a degree of elasticity to them, allowing the suspension straps 40 to stretch and compress during use. As such, the suspension straps 40 can be described as having spring like characteristics, allowing the suspension straps 40 to stretch and then return to their original length. The armrest 44 is coupled to or formed integral with the seat 42, and the armrest 44 extends at least partially around the seat 42. In some examples, the armrest 44 extends fully around the seat 42. The armrest 44 extends radially outwards from the seat 42, defining a feature in which a child can rest their arms when sitting in the seat 42. The legs 38 and the suspension straps 40 have a defined height that results in the seat 42 being positioned above and offset from the supporting surface, such that the child’s feet can reach and touch the supporting surface for practicing standing and jumping.
[0073] FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the activity center 36 positioned within the playard 10. The activity center 36 includes a shape and size that allows the activity center 36 to fit within the sidewalls and interior of the softgoods 14 of the playard 10, such that the activity center 36 is positioned below the top rails 22 and supported by the base 18 of the playard 10. Specifically, the lower end of each of the legs 38 include feet 50 that are configured to contact an upper surface of the base 18 of the playard 10, supporting the activity center 36 above the base 18 of playard 10. Again, the legs 38 and the suspension straps 40 have a defined height that results in the seat 42 being positioned above and offset from the base 18 of the playard 10, such that the child’s feet can reach and touch the base 18 (or mattress) for practicing standing and jumping within the interior of the playard 10. The activity center 36 can be used as a standalone unit (FIG. 2) or the activity center 36 can be used and placed within the playard 10 (FIG. 3) for extra protection for the child and to consolidate child furniture to take up less floor space. With the activity center 36 positioned within the playard 10, the combination provides a safe and convenient location for a child to play, jump, practice standing, or the like. In some examples, as illustrated and described with respect to FIG. 8, the walls of the playard may include pockets to receive the legs 38 for improved stability. In other embodiments, the straps or the like may additionally or alternatively be provided to improve stability.
[0074] FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the activity center 36A connected to the playard 10. The activity center 36A is substantially similar to the activity center 36, and therefore it is to be understood that the disclosure regarding the activity center 36 equally applies to the activity center 36A unless otherwise noted. As such, only the differences between the activity center 36A and the activity center 36 are described in the following. As illustrated, the activity center 36A does not include the legs 38 or the suspension straps 40, but rather the legs 38 and the suspension straps 40 have been removed. Instead, the activity center 36A includes at least one suspension member 52 connecting the activity center 36A to the playard 10. The at least one suspension member 52 is a resilient strap or cord that has a degree of elasticity, allowing the suspension member 52 to stretch and compress during use with spring-like characteristics. In some examples, the suspension member 52 can be constructed from a plurality of elastic strands encased in a protective sheath.
[0075] The at least one suspension member 52 is connected at one end to the seat 42 and / or armrest 44, and the other end of the at least one suspension member 52 is connected to the playard 10 such that the activity center 36A hangs from the playard 10. Specifically, the playard 10 includes a topper suspension frame 54 including a plurality of frame members 56 coupled to the frame 16 of the playard 10. In some examples, the topper suspension frame 54 can include four frame members 56, with each of the frame members 56 connected at a first end to a corner 58 of the top rails 22 and connected at a second end above the playard 10 to each other to form a point or apex. As such, in some examples, the topper suspension frame 54 can be described as having a square pyramid shape that is connected to the top rails 22 and extends upwards away from the interior of the playard 10. In other examples, the topper suspension frame 54 can include more than or less than four frame members 56. Further, in other examples, the frame members 56 may not be connected to the corners 58, but rather connected to central portions of the top rail 22 itself.

With the seat 42 and armrest 44 hanging from the at least one suspension member 52 and the topper suspension frame 54, the seat 42 and armrest 44 are positioned below the top rail 22 and above the base 18 of the playard 10, providing a safe and convenient location for a child to jump and practice standing. Therefore, with the seat 42 and armrest 44 hanging from the at least one suspension member 52 and the topper suspension frame 54, the child’s feet can touch the base 18 or mattress of the playard 10.

The activity center 36B is substantially similar to the activity center 36A, and therefore it is to be understood that the disclosure regarding the activity center 36A equally applies to the activity center 36B unless otherwise noted. As such, only the differences between the activity center 36B and the activity center 36A are described in the following. As illustrated, the activity center 36B does not include the legs 38 or the suspension straps 40, but rather the legs 38 and the suspension straps 40 have been removed. Instead, the activity center 36B includes a suspension member 52B on each side of the activity center 36B that connects the activity center 36B to the playard10. A playard assembly comprising: a playard comprising a frame including top rails connected to legs; softgoods coupled to the frame, defining sidewalls and a base of the playard; and a playard accessory connectable to and removeable from the frame, the playard accessory comprising: a support frame and accessory softgoods connected to the support frame, the accessory softgoods defining sidewalls, a base portion, and an open top portion of the playard accessory; the playard accessory is attachable to the playard in a first configuration with the base portion positioned above the top rails, and in a second configuration with the base portion positioned below the top rails and within an interior of the playard.
2. The playard assembly of claim 1 , wherein the playard accessory further comprises at least one clip configured to connect the playard accessory to the frame of the playard.
3. The playard assembly of claim 2, wherein the at least one clip is configured to connect the playard accessory to the top rails of the playard in both the first and second configurations.
4. The playard assembly of claim 1, wherein the first configuration is a canopy configuration that covers the interior of the playard.
5. The playard assembly of claim 1, wherein second configuration is a bassinet configuration in which the base portion of the playard accessory is configured as a support surface.
6. The playard assembly of claim 1, wherein in the first configuration the open top portion of the playard accessories faces inwards towards the interior of the playard.
7. The playard assembly of claim 1, wherein in the second configuration the open top portion of the playard accessories faces outwards away from the interior of the playard.
8. The playard assembly of claim 1 , wherein the playard accessory is flipped over when transitioning from the first configuration to the second configuration.

A playard assembly comprising: a collapsible playard comprising top rails, legs, and a base; and an activity center comprising: a seat for supporting a child, the seat comprising leg holes for the child’s legs to extend through; an armrest extending outwards from the seat; and a support configured to selectively attach the activity center to the playard, wherein when the support is attached to the playard, the activity center is positioned below the top rails with the seat supported above the base of the playard.
11. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the support comprises a plurality of legs.
12. The playard assembly of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of legs are connected to the playard through a plurality of pockets attached to the playard.
13. The playard assembly of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of legs are connected to the playard by being supported atop the base of the playard.
14. The playard assembly of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of legs are rigidly coupled to the seat or the armrest.
15. The playard assembly of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of legs are coupled to the seat or the armrest through a plurality of suspension straps.
16. The playard assembly of claim 15, wherein the plurality of suspension straps are elastic suspension straps.
17. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the playard further comprises a topper suspension frame coupled to the top rails of the playard.
18. The playard assembly of claim 17, wherein the topper suspension frame comprises a plurality of frame members that form a square pyramid above the top rails of the playard.
19. The playard assembly of claim 17, wherein the support comprises a suspension member coupled at a first end to the seat or the armrest, and the suspension member is coupled at a second end to the topper suspension frame.
20. The playard assembly of claim 19, wherein the seat and the armrest hang from an apex of the topper suspension frame.
21. The playard assembly of claim 19, wherein the suspension member is an elastic suspension member.
22. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the support comprises a plurality of suspension members, and each of the suspension members is connected at a first end to the seat or the armrest, and each of the suspension members is connected at a second end to a corner connector of the playard.
23. The playard assembly of claim 22, wherein the corner connector is coupled to the top rail of the playard.
24. The playard assembly of claim 22, wherein the corner connector includes an L-shaped profile.
25. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the support comprises a plurality of suspension members, and each of the suspension member is connected at a first end to the seat or the armrest, and each of the suspension members is connected at a second end to top rail connectors of the playard.
26. The playard assembly of claim 25, wherein the top rail connectors are coupled to the top rails of the playard.
27. The playard assembly of claim 25, wherein the top rail connectors are U-shaped and slide onto the top rails of the playard.
28. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the activity center is an elastically-supported jumper.
29. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the activity center is a rigid stand.
30. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the activity center is selectively attachable to either a leg assembly or the playard.
31. The playard assembly of claim 30, wherein the leg assembly is configured to fit within the top rails of the playard.
32. The playard assembly of claim 10, wherein the activity center further comprises at least one toy connected to the armrest.
33. A playard assembly comprising: a playard comprising a frame and softgoods connected to the frame and defining an interior within the softgoods; and at least one removeable accessory connected to either the frame or the softgoods, such that the at least one removeable accessory can be connected to and disconnected from the playard.
34. The playard assembly of claim 33, wherein the at least one removeable accessory comprises at least one removeable panel connected to a surface of the softgoods, such that the at least one removeable panel can be connected to and disconnected from the softgoods.
35. The playard assembly of claim 34, wherein the at least one removeable panel is connected to an exterior surface of the softgoods.
36. The playard assembly of claim 34, wherein the at least one removeable panel comprises a plurality of removeable panels, with each removeable panel connected to a single sidewall of the softgoods.
37. The playard assembly of claim 34, wherein the at least one removeable panel is configured to cover a mesh panel of the sidewalls of the softgoods.
38. The playard assembly of claim 34, wherein the at least one removeable panel comprises characters, numbers, letters, or drawings on at least one surface of the removeable panel.
39. The playard assembly of claim 33, wherein the at least one removeable accessory comprises at least one removeable grab bar connected to the frame, such that the at least one removeable grab bar can be connected to and disconnected from the frame.
40. The playard assembly of claim 39, wherein the at least one removeable grab bar is connected to an exterior surface of the frame.
41. The playard assembly of claim 39, wherein the at least one removeable grab bar comprises a plurality of removeable grab bars, with each grab connected along a single sidewall of the frame of the playard.
42. The playard assembly of claim 39, wherein the at least one grab bar is a tube.
43. The playard assembly of claim 39, wherein the grab bar is connected to the frame through at least one of a keyhole slots and fastener, magnetic buckles, buttons, and snaps.
