Description

[0001] ADJUSTABLE CONCEALED HINGE FOR WINDOWS OR DOORS

[0002] DESCRIPTION

[0003] Technical sector of the disclosure

[0004] The present invention relates to the field of windows and doors and more specifically to an adjustable concealed hinge for windows or doors with sash opening.

[0005] Disclosure background

[0006] Examples of sash-opening windows or doors are those in which a movable sash is mounted rotatably on the mullion of a fixed frame, along an axis of rotation substantially perpendicular to the ground.

[0007] This type of fixture, which is particularly popular, involves the use of various types of hinges. Some of the most popular are the so-called “concealed” ones because they are placed inside the fixture profile and are therefore not visible when it is closed, giving the fixture itself a refined and clean look.

[0008] Despite their widespread use, however, such hinges are still not without their problems.

[0009] For example, some hinges are supplied already assembled, which does not allow for quick disassembly and reassembly of the sash on the frame. A hinge of this type is described in document EP3683390.

[0010] Alternatively, there are also hinges that allow for rapid dismounting / mounting of the sash on the frame, but their installation involves major machining on both the frame and the sash (grooves). Hinges of this type are for example described in WO20180733 and EP3321458.

[0011] Summary of the disclosure

[0012] The aim of the present invention is to produce a concealed hinge that for mounting requires grooves to be created only on the fixed frame profile and not on the sash.

[0013] A further aim is that the hinge allows the sash to be assembled / disassembled quickly and easily.

[0014] These and other aims are achieved by the concealed hinge for windows / doors which, according to the present invention, has the essential features defined by the first of the appended claims. Further important characteristics are defined by the dependent claims.

[0015] Short description of the drawings

[0016] The characteristics and advantages of the concealed hinge according to the present invention will appear more clearly from the following description of embodiments thereof, provided by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:

[0017] Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a hinge according to the invention applied to a window / door;

[0018] Figure 2 is a perspective view of the hinge with a disassembled movable sash of the door / window;

[0019] Figure 3 is a vertical section view according to section plane AA;

[0020] Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view according to section plane CC; and

[0021] Figure 5 is an exploded view of the hinge from the previous figures.

[0022] Detailed description

[0023] With reference to these figures, and in particular Figure 1 , a door or window, comprises a fixed frame and a sash. The latter is connected to the fixed frame in a rotating manner along one of its vertical profiles in relation to a mullion of the fixed frame itself. The figures show a section of the mullion A of the fixed frame and a section of the profile B of the sash. An axis of rotation of the latter with respect to the former is defined between the fixed frame and the sash. The axis of rotation, indicated in the figures as Y, is usually vertical, i.e. substantially perpendicular to the ground.

[0024] The rotatable connection between sash and fixed frame is provided through at least one hinge 1 , of the concealed type. Commonly, two hinges, one lower and one upper, are used to attach the sash to the fixed frame.

[0025] The hinge 1 consists of an adjustable portion 1 a and a coupling portion 1b.

[0026] In the example shown in the figures, the adjustable portion 1 a is connected to the fixed frame, while the coupling portion 1b is connected to the sash. This embodiment will be used in the following to describe the hinge, but it is possible to provide an alternative embodiment in which the adjustable portion 1a is connected to the sash and the coupling portion 1b is connected to the fixed frame.

[0027] Referring now in particular to Figures 2 and Figure 5, the adjustable portion 1 a comprises a coupling body 10 to the fixed frame, which is recessed into a dedicated seat A1 formed on the mullion A. The coupling body 10 is fixed to the mullion A by means of connecting means such as, but not limited to, screws 2.

[0028] The coupling body 10 has a shaping 100 that accommodates a box-like body 11 of the hinge in a rotating assembly.

[0029] In more detail, the box-like body 11 of the hinge comprises a first element 12 that is rotatably connected to the first box-like body 10. This rotatable connection is obtained by means of a pin 101 which is arranged according to the axis of rotation Y and is engaged on the first element 12 of the box-like body and at its ends on respective appendages 102 of the first box-like body 10.

[0030] Returning to the first element 12, it is configured to be coupled with a second element 13 to define the aforementioned box-like body 11 .

[0031] The first and second elements are substantially L-shaped and are mutually engaged to form a box that defines a compartment 110. The second element 13 also provides a countersink which, when coupled with the first element 12, defines an access port 110a to the compartment 110.

[0032] The coupling between the first 12 and second 13 element of the box-like body 11 is stabilised by suitable connecting means that are arranged transversely. In a preferred embodiment, the connecting means are materialised by pins 3, firmly fixed in holes 130 of the second element 13 and engaged in corresponding slots 120 of the first element 12.

[0033] The second element 13 further comprises a protuberance 131 , arranged with a seat 132, accessible from outside the hinge, for engaging a head 133a of a screw 133.

[0034] The screw 133 is arranged transversely along a transverse axis X, perpendicular to the axis Y. A shank 133b of the screw 133 is engaged on a shaped block 14.

[0035] Turning to the coupling portion 1 b connected to the profile B of the movable sash, it comprises a fin-shaped appendage 15 which extends transversely with respect to the profile B, according to the transverse axis X. The fin-shaped appendage is connected to the profile of the window / door via a plate 15a. As will be discussed in more detail below, the fin-shaped appendage 15 is received in assembly within the box-like body 11 . The fin-shaped appendage 15 has a seat 150 open outwards and is symmetrical to the transverse axis of symmetry X.

[0036] The engagement between the box-like body 11 and the fin 15 is achieved by engaging the shaped block 14 within the open shaped seat 150, as shown in Figure 3.

[0037] When the sash is moved in the transverse direction towards the fixed frame, the appendage 15 penetrates the compartment 110 of the box-like body 11 and the block

[0038] 14 penetrates the seat 150. The sash is then lowered until the fin-shaped appendage

[0039] 15 comes into contact with a bottom 110b of the compartment 110, blocking the transverse movement of the sash (Figure 3).

[0040] The mounting of the sash on the fixed frame is commonly carried out with the sash in the open position of the window / door; since at least two hinges thereof (bottom hinge and top hinge) have to be installed at the same time, it is particularly useful to block the rotation of the box-like body 11 , in order to precisely facilitate the mounting of the sash with respect to the fixed frame.

[0041] For this purpose, the hinge according to the invention comprises a locking tab 16. In a preferred embodiment, the locking tab 16 is U-shaped. When assembling the sash with respect to the fixed frame, when it is appropriate to lock the position of the movable box-like body 11 with respect to rotation, the tab is removably inserted in an initial position. This first position comprises at least one hole 151 , 152 made on the coupling body 10, as shown in Figures 1 and 4. In the embodiment there are two holes, 151 , 152. In this first position, the tab is positioned projecting from the coupling body so as to interfere with the box-like body and thus block its rotation.

[0042] The hinge according to the invention also has advantageous ways of adjusting the reciprocal position between sash and fixed frame, which will be described in detail below.

[0043] A first adjustment allowed by the hinge is the vertical adjustment, i.e. it is perfected according to the axis of rotation Y.

[0044] For this purpose, the box-like body, and in particular the first element 12, has two adjustment elements 121 each with a threaded hole 121a aligned according to the axis of rotation Y.

[0045] An adjustment screw 6 is inserted into the lower adjustment element. This adjustment screw 6 abuts on a flat surface 134 of the second element 13. Turning the adjustment screw 6 exercises a thrust pressure on the second element, which then moves with respect to the first element. This movement drags the fin-shaped appendage 15 and thus the sash connected thereto. This movement along the axis of rotation is enabled by the fact that the shaped seat 150 is large enough to allow it to slide in relation to the block 14. The hinge is locked in the desired position by means of a suitable locking screw 7.

[0046] Again, returning to the shaped seat 150, the latter has at least two flat walls arranged according to the axis of rotation Y. These walls are spaced and opposite each other and are indicated in the drawings with the numerical references 150a, 150b. The shaped block 14 also has at least two flat surfaces 14a, 14b arranged according to the axis of rotation Y, which are spaced apart and opposite each other, and which are suitable for clearance-free installation on the flat walls 150a, 150b. This abutment defines a transverse block to the movement between sash and fixed frame profile even during vertical adjustment.

[0047] The hinge can also perform a transverse adjustment between sash and fixed frame along the transverse direction X. This adjustment is achieved by exerting a screwing / unscrewing action on the screw 133. Since the screw head is integral with the protuberance 131 , rotating it causes transverse displacement of the shaped block 14. Since the block is constrained to transverse displacement with respect to the shaped seat of the fin 15 by means of interference between the flat walls just described above, the transverse displacement of the block 14 resulting from the unscrewing / screwing action of the screw 133 results in movement of the sash with respect to the fixed frame along the axis X.

[0048] The hinge can also be operated in such a way as to adjust the closing pressure of the movable sash on the fixed frame.

[0049] Returning to the mounting screws 2 between the box-like body and the fixed frame, these are inserted, in pairs, in two hollows 111 each of which is adapted to abut on an adjustment plate 112. There are also slots 113 on each hollow 111 for the passage of screws 2 and a hole 114 for the centring of an eccentric pin 115.

[0050] The eccentric pin 115 has a tang that is engaged without clearance in a slot 112a on the adjustment plate 112. The eccentric pin 115 then comprises a circular head eccentric to the tang, which is rotatably inserted into the hole 114. The circular head provides a seat for the insertion of a suitable tool, such as a spanner. Turning the eccentric pin 115 therefore causes the lateral displacement of the plate 112 with respect to the coupling body 10 and thus between the movable sash and the fixed frame profile. The adjustment position obtained will then be locked by tightening the screws 2.

[0051] In order to prevent the sash from accidentally slipping off the hinge, e.g. due to excessive vertical lifting of the sash relative to the fixed frame, the hinge provides a safety feature against the sash slipping off and thus against excessive movement of the sash along the vertical axis Y. With particular reference to Figures 2 and 3, the tab 16, which is housed in the first position when the sash is connected to the frame, is later removed and finds removable housing in a second position. Here it remains for the entire use of the hinge, i.e. from the connection between sash and frame. The second position comprises a suitable seat provided in the protuberance 131 that opens towards the compartment 110. When arranged within such a seat the tab 16 protrudes at least partially into the compartment 110 and interferes with an edge of the open seat 150 if the sash exceeds the displacement along the vertical axis Y with respect to the maximum displacement allowed by the vertical adjustment.

[0052] The hinge according to the invention has numerous advantages.

[0053] Firstly, it is perfectly symmetrical along the transverse axis X, so it can also be used in an inverted position, being able to be used indiscriminately on right- or lefthand opening sashes.

[0054] Moreover, the hinge is in fact basically already assembled, except for the portion connected to the sash, which in any case does not install any operational adjustment elements.

[0055] The assembly and disassembly of the sash is therefore particularly quick and easy since the sash only supports a non-rotatable portion of the hinge and the rotatable portion supported by the frame is held in place by the tab 16.

[0056] In addition, the installation of the hinge is simpler because machining on the profile is simplified since no milling is performed on the sash.

[0057] No milling on the sash is also a structural advantage because the shape of the sash profile remains unchanged.

[0058] The variant in which the hinge is mounted with its adjustable portion 1 a fixed to the movable sash and the coupling portion fixed to the fixed frame also provides similar advantages. In particular, the ease of assembly and disassembly is confirmed, as is the simplicity of hinge installation due to the simplified machining on the fixed frame profile.

[0059] The present invention has been described hereto with reference to preferred embodiments thereof. It is intended that other embodiments may exist which relate to the same inventive core, all falling within the scope of protection of the claims indicated below.
