[0012] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In all the drawings, like components are designated by like reference numerals, and the description thereof will be omitted as appropriate.

[0013] First Embodiment FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of the functional configuration of an information presentation device 10 according to a first embodiment. The information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment includes a command detection unit 130, a process execution unit 150, an output control unit 170, and a guide generation unit 110. The command detection unit 130 detects a voice command uttered by a user. The process execution unit 150 executes a process according to the detected voice command. The output control unit 170 displays a symbol on a display unit. The guide generation unit 110 generates a guide indicating the correspondence between the symbol and a name for identifying the symbol in the voice command. The guide generation unit 110 generates a guide for the symbol displayed on the display unit in response to a predetermined operation performed by the user.

[0014] FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating an information presentation method according to this embodiment. The information presentation method according to this embodiment is executed by one or more computers. The information presentation method according to this embodiment includes a guide generation step S10, a command detection step S20, a process execution step S30, and an output control step S40. In the command detection step S20, the one or more computers detect a voice command uttered by the user. In the process execution step S30, the one or more computers execute a process according to the detected voice command. In the output control step S40, the one or more computers display a symbol on a display unit. In the guide generation step S10, the one or more computers generate a guide indicating the correspondence between the symbol and a name for identifying the symbol in the voice command. In the guide generation step S10, the one or more computers generate a guide for the symbol displayed on the display unit in response to a predetermined operation performed by the user.

[0015] The information presentation method according to this embodiment can be executed by the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment. The information presentation device 10 and the information presentation method according to this embodiment will be described in detail below.

[0016] For example, when a driver of a motorcycle or the like uses a navigation device, the driver is unable to perform detailed operations with their hands, at least while driving, and therefore must perform operations by voice. However, when the driver finds a symbol of interest on a map displayed on the navigation device, it is not easy to specify (select) the desired symbol if there are many symbols currently displayed. This is because, while various types of POIs (Points of Interest) are indicated on the map by symbols, it is difficult for the user to remember the names corresponding to the various symbols. In situations where detailed operations with their hands are not possible, such as while driving a mobile vehicle, even if the driver attempts to perform voice operations, the desired operation cannot be performed unless the driver remembers the names corresponding to the symbols.

[0017] In response to this, the guide generation unit 110 of the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment generates a guide for a symbol displayed on the display unit in response to a predetermined operation performed by the user. Therefore, by referring to the guide for the currently displayed symbol, the user can use the correct voice command to perform an operation on the symbol. Note that the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment is not limited to a device for navigation.

[0018] 3 is a diagram illustrating an example of the functional configuration of a system 50 according to this embodiment. The system 50 according to this embodiment includes an information presentation device 10, an operation unit 20, a sound collection unit 22, a display unit 30, and a sound output unit 32. In the example of FIG. 3 , the information presentation device 10 further includes a reference control unit 120.

[0019] The hardware configuration of the information presentation device 10 will be described below. Each functional component of the information presentation device 10 (the guide generation unit 110, the reference control unit 120, the command detection unit 130, the process execution unit 150, and the output control unit 170) may be realized by hardware (e.g., a hardwired electronic circuit) that realizes each functional component, or by a combination of hardware and software (e.g., a combination of an electronic circuit and a program that controls it). A case in which each functional component of the information presentation device 10 is realized by a combination of hardware and software will be further described below.

[0020] FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating an example of a computer 1000 for implementing the information presentation device 10. The computer 1000 may be any computer. For example, the computer 1000 may be a system on chip (SoC), a personal computer (PC), a server machine, a tablet terminal, a smartphone, or the like. The computer 1000 may be a dedicated computer designed for implementing the information presentation device 10, or a general-purpose computer. The information presentation device 10 may be implemented by a single computer 1000 or by a combination of multiple computers 1000. When the information presentation device 10 is implemented by a combination of multiple computers 1000, some of the multiple computers 1000 may be provided in a mobile object, and the other may be provided as a server machine separate from the mobile object. That is, some of the multiple functional components of the information presentation device 10 (guide generation unit 110, reference control unit 120, command detection unit 130, processing execution unit 150, and output control unit 170) may be realized by a computer 1000 provided in a mobile body, and the other components may be realized by a server machine.

[0021] The computer 1000 includes a bus 1020, a processor 1040, a memory 1060, a storage device 1080, an input / output interface 1100, and a network interface 1120. The bus 1020 is a data transmission path through which the processor 1040, the memory 1060, the storage device 1080, the input / output interface 1100, and the network interface 1120 transmit and receive data to and from each other. However, the method of interconnecting the processor 1040 and other components is not limited to bus connection. The processor 1040 may be any of various processors, such as a central processing unit (CPU), a graphics processing unit (GPU), or a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The memory 1060 is a main storage device implemented using a random access memory (RAM) or the like. The storage device 1080 is an auxiliary storage device implemented using a hard disk, a solid state drive (SSD), a memory card, a read-only memory (ROM), or the like.

[0022] The input / output interface 1100 is an interface for connecting the computer 1000 to an input / output device. For example, an input device such as a microphone and an output device such as a display are connected to the input / output interface 1100. The input / output interface 1100 may be connected to the input device or the output device wirelessly or by wire. In the example of FIG. 3 , an operation unit 20, a sound collection unit 22, a display unit 30, and a sound output unit 32 are connected to the input / output interface 1100 of the computer 1000 that realizes the information presentation device 10.

[0023] The network interface 1120 is an interface for connecting the computer 1000 to a network. Examples of this communication network include a LAN (Local Area Network) and a WAN (Wide Area Network). The network interface 1120 may connect to the network wirelessly or by wire.

[0024] When the information presentation device 10 is realized by combining a plurality of computers 1000 , the plurality of information presentation devices 10 are connected to each other via a network interface 1120 or an input / output interface 1100 .

[0025] The storage device 1080 stores program modules that realize each functional component of the information presentation device 10. The processor 1040 reads each of these program modules into the memory 1060 and executes them to realize the function corresponding to each program module.

[0026] The system 50 can function as a navigation system for a mobile object. A user of the system 50 and the information presentation device 10 can be a driver of the mobile object or a passenger other than the driver of the mobile object. The mobile object is not particularly limited, but can be, for example, a vehicle. Examples of vehicles include bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles with three or more wheels.

[0027] The operation unit 20 is, for example, a physical button. Alternatively, the operation unit 20 and the display unit 30 may be integrated and realized by a touch panel. The information presentation device 10 acquires operation information indicating operations performed on the operation unit 20 from the operation unit 20. The operation unit 20 is provided in a position where it can be operated by at least the driver of the mobile object. The operation unit 20 may also be provided in a position where it can be operated by a person other than the driver of the mobile object. The system 50 may include multiple operation units 20. In this case, the system 50 may include multiple types of operation units 20, such as physical buttons and touch panels.

[0028] The operation unit 20 may be configured integrally with the information presentation device 10. For example, a computer 1000 that configures at least some of the functions of the information presentation device 10 may be housed in a housing in which the operation unit 20 is provided. However, the operation unit 20 may be provided separately from the information presentation device 10. In this case, the operation unit 20 independent from the information presentation device 10 may be attached in a position that is easy for the driver to operate.

[0029] When the operation unit 20 is a button, the button is preferably provided on the steering wheel of the vehicle. This allows the driver to easily operate the button while driving. As described above, a device that houses the computer 1000 that realizes at least some of the functions of the information presentation device 10 in a housing in which the operation unit 20 is provided may be attached to the steering wheel, or the operation unit 20 independent of the information presentation device 10 may be attached to the steering wheel.

[0030] As another example, the operation unit 20 may be a sensor for detecting the user's actions. Examples of the sensor include an acceleration sensor and a camera. The sensor is worn on the driver's head, for example. The sensor may be provided in a headset worn by the driver. If the sensor is an acceleration sensor, the movement of the driver's head can be detected as a gesture. If the sensor is a camera, a change in the orientation of the camera due to the movement of the driver's head can be detected by analyzing an image captured by the camera, and the movement of the driver's head can be detected as a gesture. Note that a camera may be attached to the moving object at a position where it can capture an image of the driver's head, and the head movement captured by the camera may be detected.

[0031] The sound collection unit 22 is, for example, a microphone. The sound collection unit 22 acquires sound and converts it into sound data. The sound data indicates a waveform of the sound acquired by the sound collection unit 22. The sound data is input to the information presentation device 10 from the sound collection unit 22. Note that A / D conversion of the sound signal may be performed by the sound collection unit 22 or by the information presentation device 10. The sound collection unit 22 is configured to be able to acquire at least sound uttered by a driver of the mobile object. The sound collection unit 22 may also be configured to be able to acquire sound uttered by a person other than the driver of the mobile object. The system 50 may include multiple sound collection units 22. The command detection unit 130 of the information presentation device 10 can detect a voice command uttered by the user by performing voice recognition processing on the sound data acquired by the sound collection unit 22.

[0032] The display unit 30 is, for example, a display. The display unit 30 is configured to display various images under the control of the information presentation device 10. The information presentation device 10 causes the display unit 30 to display, for example, a map for navigation, information for operation, etc. The display unit 30 is provided in a position visible to the driver. Specifically, the display unit 30 is preferably provided near the steering wheel of the mobile object or near the meter of the mobile object so that it is easily visible to the driver.

[0033] As described above, when the operation unit 20 and the display unit 30 are integrated and realized by a touch panel, virtual buttons for operation are displayed on the display unit 30. Then, the user can perform button operations by touching an area on the touch panel that corresponds to the button.

[0034] Examples of the sound output unit 32 include a speaker, an earphone, a headphone, etc. When the sound output unit 32 is an earphone or a headphone, the sound output unit 32 is worn by the driver, and the driver can hear the sound from the sound output unit 32. The sound output unit 32 is configured to output various sounds under the control of the information presentation device 10. The information presentation device 10 causes the sound output unit 32 to output, for example, voice guidance for navigation.

[0035] Each functional component of the information presentation device 10 will be described in detail below.

[0036] 5 to 8 are diagrams illustrating examples of images displayed on the display unit 30. An example of the flow of processing executed by the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment will be described with reference to these diagrams.

[0037] In Fig. 5, a mark 91 indicating the current location is displayed superimposed on a map 90. The map 90 and the mark 91 change according to the movement of the mobile object. In addition, symbols 92 indicating a plurality of POIs (facilities) are displayed superimposed on the map 90. The symbols can also be said to be marks or symbols. The symbols 92 differ depending on the type of POI. The symbol 92 corresponding to the type of POI is displayed at the position of the POI on the map.

[0038] When the image in Fig. 5 is displayed, for example, if the user performs a predetermined operation (for example, utters "symbol selection guide"), the image displayed on the display unit 30 switches to that shown in Fig. 6. In the image in Fig. 6, a guide 93 indicates the correspondence between a symbol 92 and a name indicating a type. The guide 93 may or may not overlap the map 90 as shown in Fig. 6. In the example in Fig. 6, symbols and names of three types, "tourist attractions," "museums," and "supermarkets," are displayed side by side.

[0039] When the user utters "tourist attraction," one of the category names, while the image in Fig. 6 is being displayed, the image displayed on the display unit 30 changes to that shown in Fig. 7. In the image in Fig. 7, numbers (symbol identifiers) are assigned to multiple symbols of the specified category. At this time, the original symbols may be hidden by the symbol identifiers.

[0040] When the user utters any number, for example, "number 4," while the image in Fig. 6 is displayed, the image displayed on the display unit 30 changes to that shown in Fig. 8. The image in Fig. 8 shows information 94 relating to the POI of the uttered number. This information may be displayed superimposed on the map 90 as shown in Fig. 8, or may not be displayed superimposed on the map 90. Furthermore, this information 94 may be output as sound from the sound output unit 32.

[0041] 8 further displays a button 95 for selecting to stop at the POI and a button 96 for ending the display of the information 94. When the user taps the button 95 or utters the word "stop," the POI is set as a destination or a waypoint in the navigation. On the other hand, when the user taps the button 96 or utters the word "end," the display of the information 94 ends. Although an example of the flow of the process executed by the information presentation device 10 has been described above, the present invention is not limited to this example.

[0042] The command detection unit 130 acquires voice data from the sound collection unit 22 and performs voice recognition to detect an uttered voice command. A storage unit accessible from the command detection unit 130 stores, for example, a plurality of pairs of voice patterns and voice commands associated with each other. This storage unit may be provided in the information presentation device 10 or may be provided externally to the information presentation device 10. When this storage unit is provided in the information presentation device 10, this storage unit is realized, for example, using the storage device 1080 of the computer 1000 that realizes the information presentation device 10. The command detection unit 130 can identify the uttered voice command by comparing the pattern of the voice data acquired from the sound collection unit 22 with the voice pattern.

[0043] The process execution unit 150 executes a process associated with the voice command detected by the command detection unit 130. Examples of the process associated with the voice command include a process for displaying a specific spot on a map, a process related to a route (resetting a route, changing a destination, etc.), a process related to guidance (navigation) (changing the scale of a map, changing the volume of the guidance voice, etc.). However, the process associated with the voice command is not limited to these examples. The guide generation unit 110 may be a part of the process execution unit 150. Furthermore, when an operation (such as a button operation) is performed on the operation unit 20, the process execution unit 150 executes a process corresponding to the operation. Examples of the process corresponding to the operation on the operation unit 20 are the same as the examples of the process associated with the voice command.

[0044] FIG. 9 is a flowchart illustrating the flow of processing executed by the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment. This processing of the information presentation device 10 may start, for example, when navigation is initiated and may be repeatedly executed while the navigation processing is being performed. In step S101, the output control unit 170 causes the display unit 30 to display a map. This map may be, for example, a map of the area surrounding the current location of the mobile object. However, this map may be a map of any area regardless of the current location. The output control unit 170 can display the map using map information stored in a storage unit accessible from the output control unit 170. Here, the output control unit 170 causes the display unit 30 to display the map and a symbol indicating the facility superimposed on each other. This allows the user to grasp the location of the facility.

[0045] With the map displayed on the display unit 30, the guide generating unit 110 determines whether or not the user has performed a predetermined operation to display a guide (referred to as a "guide display operation") (step S102).

[0046] In the first example, the guide display operation is pressing a predetermined button. The guide generation unit 110 acquires, as operation information, information indicating whether the predetermined button has been pressed from the operation unit 20, and can make a determination based on that information. As described above, the operation unit 20 may be a physical button, or a button that is temporarily displayed on a touch panel.

[0047] In the second example, the guide display operation is to utter a predetermined command. The predetermined command includes, for example, the word "guide." The command detection unit 130 detects that the predetermined command has been uttered by performing voice recognition on the voice data acquired from the sound collection unit 22. The guide generation unit 110 determines that a guide display operation has been performed when it acquires, from the command detection unit 130, information indicating that the user has uttered the predetermined command.

[0048] In the third example, the guide display operation is a predetermined gesture. The predetermined gesture is, for example, a motion of nodding one's head up and down multiple times. Note that, since shaking one's head from side to side can occur as a driving motion, it is preferable not to treat it as a gesture. The guide generation unit 110 acquires, as operation information, information indicating the detection results by the sensor from the operation unit 20. By analyzing the detection results by the sensor, the guide generation unit 110 can detect gestures made by the driver's head movements, as described above.

[0049] In step S102, if a predetermined time has elapsed without any guide display operation being performed (timeout) (No in step S102), the guide generator 110 ends the process.

[0050] In step S102, when a guide display operation is performed (Yes in step S102), the guide generating unit 110 performs processing for generating a guide. Note that the number of guide display operations is not limited to one, and the guide generating unit 110 may generate a guide in step S102 when at least one of the guide display operations according to the first to third examples described above is performed.

[0051] The guide indicates the correspondence between symbols defined for each facility type and names used to specify the facility type in a voice command. The correspondence between the types and symbols, i.e., which type each symbol indicates, is determined in advance. It is preferable that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the types and symbols. The name of a type is a word that can be used in a voice command to specify that type. Below, an example will be described in which the guide is an image displaying symbols and type names side by side, and the output control unit 170 displays such a guide on the display unit 30. However, as will be described later, the guide may also be output as audio.

[0052] Furthermore, even if the same symbol corresponding to facilities in different locations is displayed multiple times on the map, the guide does not need to present the symbol and the name of the type multiple times; it is sufficient to present one (or once) for each type.

[0053] In the example of Fig. 9, the guide generation unit 110 generates a guide so that the number of symbols simultaneously displayed in the guide is equal to or less than a predetermined type reference number. By doing so, the visibility and glanceability of the guide are improved, making it easier for the driver of the moving object to use. The type reference number is not particularly limited, but is preferably between 2 and 10, and more preferably between 3 and 5.

[0054] In order to generate a guide, the guide generating unit 110 identifies symbols displayed on the map (step S103), and then counts the number of types of symbols displayed on the map and the number of each type of symbol displayed (step S104).

[0055] Next, the guide generator 110 executes a guide output process (step S105).

[0056] 10 is a flowchart illustrating the flow of the guide output process (step S105). The guide output process includes steps S201 to S206, which will be described below. In step S201, the guide generation unit 110 determines whether the number of types counted in step S104 exceeds the type reference number. If the number of types does not exceed the type reference number (No in step S201), the guide generation unit 110 generates guides for all types of symbols displayed on the map (step S202).

[0057] For example, the guide generating unit 110 can read information indicating the correspondence between various symbols and names stored in a storage unit accessible from the guide generating unit 110, and use the information to generate the guide. When the guide is an image, the guide generating unit 110 generates, for example, an image including a list in which, for each of one or more types, a symbol indicating the type is associated with the name of the type.

[0058] Then, in step S206, the output control unit 170 outputs the generated guide. If the guide is an image, the output control unit 170 displays the guide on the display unit 30.

[0059] On the other hand, if the number of types exceeds the type reference number (Yes in step S201), the guide generating unit 110 performs processing to identify the types of symbols to be included in the guide.

[0060] The guide generation unit 110 can determine which types of symbols are displayed to include in the guide, based on, for example, the user's operation history of the information presentation device 10 or the processing history of the information presentation device 10. That is, by preferentially including in the guide types that have been used less in the past, the user can quickly learn the names of symbols that the user does not remember through the guide. Furthermore, when the guide is an image, visibility can be ensured by not presenting information that the user already knows.

[0061] Information indicating an operation history or a processing history (referred to as "history information") is held in a history storage unit 101. In the example of FIG. 3, the information presentation device 10 includes the history storage unit 101. In this case, the history storage unit 101 is realized by a storage device 1080 of a computer 1000 that realizes the information presentation device 10. However, the history storage unit 101 may be provided outside the information presentation device 10. The guide generation unit 110 reads and acquires the history information from the history storage unit 101 (step S203).

[0062] The history storage unit 101 may store history information of each of multiple users, linked to a user identifier unique to each user. Furthermore, the guide generation unit 110 may acquire the user identifier before the guide output process. For example, the user performs an operation to identify the user, such as inputting a user identifier, on the operation unit 20 of the information presentation device 10. Based on the acquired user identifier, the guide generation unit 110 reads out the user's history information from the history storage unit 101 and uses it.

[0063] The information indicating the operation history includes, for example, the number of times each type has been presented in the guide in the past. In this case, in step S204, the guide generating unit 110 selects the types to be included in the guide, starting from the type that has been presented the least number of times, up to the standard number of types.

[0064] The information indicating the operation history may include the number of times that a voice command including the name of each type has been detected in the past. In this case, in step S204, the guide generating unit 110 selects the types to be included in the guide, starting from the type with the least number of detections, up to the standard number of types.

[0065] Furthermore, when the number of types of symbols superimposed on the map on the display unit 30 exceeds the reference number of types (Yes in step S201), the output control unit 170 may issue a notification urging the user to enlarge the map. For example, the output control unit 170 may issue a notification urging the user to enlarge the map by displaying a message such as "There are many symbol types, please enlarge the map" on the display unit 30 or by outputting a sound from the sound output unit 32.

[0066] Then, if the map is not enlarged within a predetermined time from the notification, the guide generating unit 110 may execute step S203. On the other hand, if the user enlarges the map, the area displayed on the map becomes smaller and the number of displayed symbols decreases. In that case, the number of displayed types may also decrease, so the guide generating unit 110 executes step S103 again.

[0067] When a type to be included in the guide is selected in step S204, the guide generation unit 110 generates a guide including the selected type (step S205). That is, a guide is generated that shows the symbols and names of the selected type in correspondence with each other (for example, side by side). Here, the guide generation unit 110 does not include the symbols and names of types that were not selected in the guide. As in step S202, the guide generation unit 110 can read information indicating the correspondence between the symbols and names of each type stored in a storage unit accessible from the guide generation unit 110 and generate a guide.

[0068] The guide generation unit 110 may generate a guide so as to present types in order of priority based on history information. That is, the guide generation unit 110 may generate a guide so as to present types in order of least number of times they have been presented in the guide in the past. Alternatively, the guide generation unit 110 may generate a guide so as to present types in order of least number of times a voice command including the name of that type has been detected in the past.

[0069] Note that the guide generating unit 110 may generate multiple images as guides when the number of types of multiple symbols superimposed on the map exceeds the type reference number. In this case, the number of symbol images included in one image, i.e., the number of symbols displayed simultaneously, may be set to be equal to or less than the predetermined type reference number. The display unit 30 may then be configured to be able to switch between multiple images (for example, by turning pages). Even in this case, it is preferable that the types be presented in order of priority based on history information.

[0070] When the guide generating unit 110 generates the guide, the output control unit 170 outputs the generated guide in step S206, thus completing the guide output process.

[0071] 9 , when the command detection unit 130 detects a voice command specifying a type while the guide is being displayed on the display unit 30 (Yes in step S106), the output control unit 170 assigns a symbol identifier to one or more symbols that belong to the specified type and are displayed superimposed on the map, and displays the symbol identifier on the display unit 30 (step S107). The symbol identifier is an identifier that enables one or more symbols of the specified type to be distinguished from one another.

[0072] In step S106, if a predetermined time has elapsed without a type being specified (timeout), or if a predetermined cancel operation has been performed (No in step S106), the process ends.

[0073] Between steps S106 and S107, the command detection unit 130 may determine whether the number of facilities belonging to the specified type exceeds a predetermined facility reference number. If the number of facilities belonging to the specified type superimposed on the map on the display unit 30 exceeds the predetermined facility reference number, the output control unit 170 may issue a notification urging the user to enlarge the map. For example, the output control unit 170 may prompt the user to enlarge the map by displaying a message such as "There are many symbols of the specified type. Please enlarge the map." or by outputting a sound from the sound output unit 32. If there are too many symbols of the specified type, it becomes difficult for the user to instantly select one of the symbols. When the user enlarges the map in response to the notification, the number of displayed symbols decreases. As a result, the visibility and at-a-glance view of the map and symbols can be improved. The facility reference number is, for example, between 5 and 10.

[0074] In both cases where the map is not enlarged within a predetermined time period after the notification, and where the map is enlarged, the process execution unit 150 executes step S107. That is, the process execution unit 150 assigns a symbol identifier to the symbol of the specified type among the symbols displayed at that time.

[0075] When one or more symbols with symbol identifiers are displayed on the display unit 30 and the command detection unit 130 detects a voice command specifying a symbol identifier (Yes in step S108), the output control unit 170 outputs information about the facility corresponding to the specified symbol identifier (step S109).

[0076] Information on a plurality of facilities is stored in advance in a facility information storage unit accessible by the processing execution unit 150, and the processing execution unit 150 reads out information on a facility corresponding to a specified symbol identifier from the facility information storage unit. The output control unit 170 causes the read facility information to be displayed on the display unit 30. The facility information storage unit may be provided in the information presentation device 10 or may be provided externally to the information presentation device 10. When the facility information storage unit is provided in the information presentation device 10, the facility information storage unit is realized by a storage device 1080 of the computer 1000 that realizes the information presentation device 10.

[0077] In step S108, if a predetermined time has elapsed without a symbol identifier being specified (timeout), or if a predetermined cancel operation is performed (No in step S108), the process ends.

[0078] When facility information is displayed on the display unit 30 and an operation is performed to specify a stop at the facility (Yes in step S110), the processing execution unit 150 sets the facility as a navigation destination or a stopover point (step S111).

[0079] In step S110, if a predetermined time has elapsed without any operation being performed to specify that the user will stop at the facility (timeout), or if a predetermined cancellation operation is performed (No in step S110), the processing ends.

[0080] Although the example in which the guide is an image has been described above, in step S206, the output control unit 170 may output the guide as audio from the audio output unit 32 instead of or in addition to displaying the guide on the display unit 30. For example, the output control unit 170 may output audio such as "The symbol of a handbag on a blue circle background is a supermarket. The symbol of a coffee cup on a yellow circle background is a cafe." as the guide.

[0081] If the display unit 30 is provided in the mobile object, in step S206 the output control unit 170 may display the guide on the display unit 30 when the mobile object is stopped, and output the guide as audio when the mobile object is not stopped. This allows the driver to check the guide by audio while driving and by image when the mobile object is stopped. The output control unit 170 acquires information indicating whether the mobile object is stopped, and controls the method of outputting the guide using this acquired information. For example, the output control unit 170 acquires a control signal of the mobile object or a detection result by a sensor provided in the mobile object as information indicating whether the mobile object is stopped.

[0082] In step S109, the output control unit 170 may output the facility information audibly from the sound output unit 32 instead of or in addition to displaying the facility information on the display unit 30. For example, the output control unit 170 may output a voice guide such as, "This is a castle built in XX year. The garden is a highlight." Furthermore, if the display unit 30 is provided on a mobile object, in step S109 the output control unit 170 may display the facility information on the display unit 30 when the mobile object is stopped, and output the facility information audibly when the mobile object is not stopped. This allows the driver to check the facility information audibly while driving, and as an image when the mobile object is stopped. The output control unit 170 acquires information indicating whether the mobile object is stopped, and controls the method of outputting the facility information using this acquired information.

[0083] In the example of Fig. 3, the information presentation device 10 includes a criterion control unit 120 that controls the category criterion number. When the display unit 30 is provided on a moving object, the criterion control unit 120 sets the category criterion number based on whether the moving object is stopped. Specifically, in the guidance output process, the criterion control unit 120 acquires information indicating whether the moving object is stopped before step S201. The criterion control unit 120 can acquire, for example, a control signal of the moving object or a detection result by a sensor provided on the moving object as information indicating whether the moving object is stopped.

[0084] Then, the reference control unit 120 sets a larger type reference number when the moving object is stopped than when the moving object is not stopped. Then, step S201 is executed using the type reference number set by the reference control unit 120. By doing so, the amount of information presented when the driver is driving can be reduced compared to when the driver is not driving, thereby further improving visibility and glanceability.

[0085] Furthermore, the reference control unit 120 controls the facility reference number. When the display unit 30 is provided in a mobile object, the reference control unit 120 sets the facility reference number based on whether the mobile object is stopped. Specifically, after step S106 and before step S107, the reference control unit 120 acquires information indicating whether the mobile object is stopped.

[0086] Then, the reference control unit 120 sets the facility reference number to a larger number when the moving object is stopped than when the moving object is not stopped. Then, step S107 is executed using the facility reference number set by the reference control unit 120. In this way, when the driver is driving, a notification can be made to present less information than when the driver is not driving.

[0087] The criteria control unit 120 may control both the type criteria number and the facility criteria number, or may control one of the type criteria number and the facility criteria number without controlling the other. Furthermore, the information presentation device 10 may not be equipped with the criteria control unit 120. In this case, both the type criteria number and the facility criteria number may be predetermined fixed values.

[0088] 9 and 10 show an example in which the number of symbols simultaneously displayed in the guide is equal to or less than a predetermined reference number for each type. However, the guide generating unit 110 may generate guides for all types displayed on the display unit 30 without any limitation on the number. In other words, the guide generating unit 110 may generate, as a guide, an image that simultaneously displays the symbols and names for all types displayed on the display unit 30.

[0089] As described above, according to this embodiment, the guide generating unit 110 generates a guide for the symbol displayed on the display unit in response to a predetermined operation performed by the user. Therefore, the user can operate the device using the correct voice command by using the guide.

[0090] Second Embodiment The functional configuration of an information presentation device 10 according to a second embodiment is illustrated in FIG. 1 , similarly to the first embodiment. The information presentation device 10 and the system 50 according to the second embodiment are the same as the information presentation device 10 and the system 50 according to the first embodiment, except for the processing executed by the guide generation unit 110. The information presentation device 10 according to the second embodiment includes a command detection unit 130, a processing execution unit 150, an output control unit 170, and a guide generation unit 110. The command detection unit 130 detects a voice command uttered by a user. The processing execution unit 150 executes processing according to the detected voice command. The output control unit 170 displays a map and symbols indicating facilities superimposed on the display unit. The guide generation unit 110 generates a guide indicating the correspondence between symbols defined for each type of facility and names used to specify the type of facility in the voice command. In the second embodiment, the guide generation unit 110 generates a guide for symbols corresponding to facilities located within the area of the map displayed on the display unit but not displayed on the map, in response to a predetermined operation by the user.

[0091] The information presentation method according to this embodiment is illustrated in FIG. 2 , similarly to the first embodiment. The information presentation method according to the second embodiment is the same as the information presentation method according to the first embodiment, except for the content of the guide generation step S10. The information presentation method according to the second embodiment is executed by one or more computers. The information presentation method according to this embodiment includes a command detection step S20, a processing execution step S30, an output control step S40, and a guide generation step S10. In the command detection step S20, the one or more computers detect a voice command uttered by a user. In the processing execution step S30, the one or more computers execute processing according to the detected voice command. In the output control step S40, the one or more computers display a map and symbols indicating facilities superimposed on a display unit. In the guide generation step S10, the one or more computers include a guide generation step S10 in which a guide indicating the correspondence between symbols defined for each type of facility and names used to specify the type of facility in a voice command is generated. In the guide generation step S10 according to this embodiment, one or more computers generate a guide for symbols that correspond to facilities that exist within the area of the map displayed on the display unit but are not displayed on the map, in response to a predetermined operation performed by the user.

[0092] The information presentation method according to this embodiment can be executed by the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment. The information presentation device 10 and the information presentation method according to this embodiment will be described in detail below.

[0093] For example, when a driver of a motorcycle or the like uses a navigation device, the driver is unable to perform detailed operations with their hands, at least while driving, and must operate the device by voice. However, if the driver wants to know the location of a facility of a type that is not displayed on the navigation device, the driver will not be able to display the symbol unless he or she correctly remembers the name of the facility. Thus, in situations where detailed operations with their hands are not possible, such as while driving a mobile object, even if the driver tries to operate the device by voice, the driver will be unable to perform the desired operation unless he or she remembers the name of the facility type.

[0094] In response to a predetermined operation by the user, the guide generation unit 110 of the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment generates a guide for a symbol that corresponds to a facility located within the area of the map displayed on the display unit but is not displayed on the map. Therefore, by referring to the guide for the symbol that is not currently displayed, the user can display the symbol using the correct voice command. Note that the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment is not limited to a navigation device.

[0095] The functional configuration of the system 50 according to this embodiment is illustrated in Fig. 3 , similarly to the first embodiment. The system 50 according to this embodiment includes an information presentation device 10, an operation unit 20, a sound collection unit 22, a display unit 30, and a sound output unit 32. In the example of Fig. 3 , the information presentation device 10 further includes a reference control unit 120.

[0096] The hardware configuration of the computer that realizes the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment is shown in Fig. 4, similar to the information presentation device 10 according to the first embodiment. However, the storage device 1080 of the computer 1000 that realizes the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment stores program modules that realize the functions of the guide generation unit 110, reference control unit 120, command detection unit 130, process execution unit 150, and output control unit 170 according to this embodiment.

[0097] The system 50 according to this embodiment can function as a navigation system for a mobile object. The system 50, the user of the information presentation device 10, and the mobile object are as described in the first embodiment. The operation unit 20, the sound collection unit 22, the display unit 30, and the sound output unit 32 of the system 50 are as described in the first embodiment.

[0098] 11 to 13 are diagrams illustrating examples of images displayed on the display unit 30. An example of the flow of processing executed by the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment will be described with reference to these diagrams.

[0099] 11, a mark 91 indicating the current location is displayed superimposed on a map 90. The map 90 and the mark 91 change in accordance with the movement of the mobile object. Also, similar to FIG. 5, symbols 92 indicating multiple POIs are displayed superimposed on the map 90.

[0100] When the image of Fig. 11 is displayed, for example, if the user performs a predetermined operation (e.g., utters "non-display symbol guide"), the image displayed on the display unit 30 switches to that shown in Fig. 12. In the image of Fig. 12, a guide 93 indicates the correspondence between symbols corresponding to facilities present in the area of the currently displayed map 90 but not currently displayed on the map 90 and the names indicating the types of the symbols. The guide 93 may or may not overlap the map 90 as shown in Fig. 12. In the example of Fig. 12, three types of symbols and their names, "restaurant," "cafe," and "supermarket," are displayed side by side.

[0101] When the user utters "cafe," one of the category names, while the image in Fig. 12 is displayed, the image displayed on the display unit 30 changes to that shown in Fig. 13. In the image in Fig. 13, a symbol for the designated category, cafe, is displayed superimposed on the map 90. This allows the user to grasp the location of the POI belonging to the newly designated category. Although an example of the flow of processing executed by the information presentation device 10 has been described above, the present invention is not limited to this example.

[0102] 14 is a flowchart illustrating the flow of processing executed by the information display device 10 according to this embodiment. The processing of the information display device 10 may start, for example, when navigation is initiated, and may be repeatedly executed while the navigation processing is being performed. Step S301 is the same as step S101.

[0103] While the map is displayed on the display unit 30, the guide generation unit 110 determines whether or not the user has performed a predetermined operation to display a guide (referred to as a "guide display operation") (step S302). Examples of the guide display operation are as described in the first embodiment.

[0104] In step S302, if a predetermined time has elapsed without any guide display operation being performed (timeout), or if a predetermined cancel operation is performed (No in step S302), the process ends.

[0105] In step S302, if a guide display operation is performed (Yes in step S302), the guide generating unit 110 performs processing for generating a guide.

[0106] The guide indicates the correspondence between symbols defined for each facility type and names used to specify the facility type in a voice command. The correspondence between the types and symbols, i.e., which type each symbol indicates, is determined in advance. It is preferable that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the types and symbols. The name of a type is a word that can be used in a voice command to specify that type. Below, an example will be described in which the guide is an image displaying symbols and type names, and the output control unit 170 displays such a guide on the display unit 30. However, the guide may also be output as audio.

[0107] In the guide, the symbol and the name of the type do not need to be presented multiple times, but only one (or one time) for each type.

[0108] In the example of Fig. 14, the guide generation unit 110 generates a guide so that the number of symbols simultaneously displayed in the guide is equal to or less than a predetermined type reference number. By doing so, the visibility and glanceability of the guide are improved, making it easier for the driver of the moving object to use. The type reference number is not particularly limited, but is preferably 2 to 10, and more preferably 3 to 5, for example.

[0109] In order to generate a guide, the guide generating unit 110 identifies symbols that correspond to facilities present within the area of the map displayed on the display unit 30 but are not displayed on the map (step S303). The guide generating unit 110 acquires map information previously stored in a storage unit accessible from the guide generating unit 110, and can identify facilities present within the area of the map displayed on the display unit and their types using the acquired map information. Then, the number of identified symbol types (also referred to as "non-display symbol types") and the number of identified symbols of each type are counted (step S304).

[0110] Next, the guide generator 110 executes a guide output process (step S305).

[0111] 15 is a flowchart illustrating the flow of the guide output process (step S305) according to this embodiment. The guide output process includes steps S401 to S406, which will be described below. In step S401, the guide generation unit 110 determines whether the number of types counted in step S304 exceeds the type reference number. If the number of types does not exceed the type reference number (No in step S401), the guide generation unit 110 generates guides for all non-display symbol types (step S402).

[0112] For example, the guide generating unit 110 can read information indicating the correspondence between various symbols and names stored in a storage unit accessible from the guide generating unit 110, and use the information to generate the guide. When the guide is an image, the guide generating unit 110 generates, for example, an image including a list in which, for each of one or more types, a symbol indicating the type is associated with the name of the type.

[0113] Then, in step S406, the output control unit 170 outputs the generated guide. If the guide is an image, the output control unit 170 displays the guide on the display unit 30.

[0114] On the other hand, if the number of types exceeds the reference number of types (Yes in step S401), the guide generating unit 110 performs processing to identify the types of symbols to be included in the guide.

[0115] The guide generation unit 110 can determine which of the non-displayed symbol types to include in the guide based on, for example, the user's operation history of the information presentation device 10 or the processing history of the information presentation device 10. That is, by preferentially including in the guide types that have been used less in the past, the user can quickly learn the names of symbols that the user does not remember through the guide. Furthermore, when the guide is an image, visibility can be ensured by not presenting information that the user already knows.

[0116] The guide generating unit 110 reads and acquires history information from the history storage unit 101 (step S403), similar to step S203. Then, the guide generating unit 110 selects, from the non-display symbol types, types to be included in the guide (step S404), similar to step S204.

[0117] Furthermore, when the number of symbol types that correspond to facilities present within the map area and are not displayed on the map (i.e., non-displayed symbol types) exceeds the type reference number (Yes in step S401), the output control unit 170 may issue a notification urging the user to enlarge the map. For example, the output control unit 170 may issue a notification urging the user to enlarge the map by displaying a message such as "There are many non-displayed symbol types, please enlarge the map" on the display unit 30 or by outputting a sound from the sound output unit 32.

[0118] Then, if the map is not enlarged within a predetermined time from the notification, the guide generating unit 110 may execute step S403. On the other hand, if the user enlarges the map, the area displayed on the map becomes smaller and the number of displayed symbols decreases. In that case, the number of displayed types may also decrease, so the guide generating unit 110 executes step S303 again.

[0119] When the types to be included in the guide are selected in step S404, the guide generating unit 110 generates a guide including the selected types, similar to step S204 (step S405).

[0120] Note that the guide generating unit 110 may generate multiple images as guides when the number of non-displayed symbol types exceeds the type reference number. In this case, the number of symbol images included in one image, i.e., the number of symbols displayed simultaneously, may be set to a predetermined type reference number or less. The display unit 30 may then be configured to be able to switch between multiple images (for example, by turning pages). Even in this case, it is preferable that the types be presented in order of priority based on history information.

[0121] When the guide generating unit 110 generates the guide, the output control unit 170 outputs the generated guide in step S406, thus completing the guide output process.

[0122] Returning to Figure 14, when the guide is displayed on the display unit 30 and the command detection unit 130 detects a voice command specifying a type (Yes in step S306), the output control unit 170 causes the display unit 30 to display one or more symbols of the specified type superimposed on the map (step S307).

[0123] In step S306, if a predetermined time has elapsed without a type being specified (timeout), or if a predetermined cancel operation has been performed (No in step S306), the process ends.

[0124] After step S307, the information presentation device 10 according to the present embodiment may execute the processes of step S106 and subsequent steps in FIG. 9 . That is, when a guide is displayed on the display unit 30 and the command detection unit 130 detects a voice command specifying the type of the displayed symbol, the output control unit 170 may assign a symbol identifier to one or more symbols belonging to the specified type and displayed superimposed on the map, and cause the display unit 30 to display the symbols. When one or more symbols to which symbol identifiers are assigned are displayed on the display unit 30 and the command detection unit 130 detects a voice command specifying a symbol identifier, the output control unit 170 may output information about a facility corresponding to the specified symbol identifier. Furthermore, when information about a facility is displayed on the display unit 30 and an operation is performed to specify a stop at the facility, the processing execution unit 150 may set the facility as a navigation destination or a stopover.

[0125] Although the above describes an example in which the guide is an image, in step S406, the output control unit 170 may output the guide as audio from the sound output unit 32 instead of or in addition to displaying the guide on the display unit 30.

[0126] If the display unit 30 is provided in the moving object, in step S406 the output control unit 170 may display the guide on the display unit 30 when the moving object is stopped, and output the guide as audio when the moving object is not stopped. This allows the driver to check the guide by audio while driving, and by image when the moving object is stopped. As in the first embodiment, the output control unit 170 obtains information indicating whether the moving object is stopped, and uses this obtained information to control the method of outputting the guide.

[0127] In the example of FIG. 3 , the information presentation device 10 includes a criterion control unit 120 that controls the category reference number. When the display unit 30 is provided on a moving object, the criterion control unit 120 sets the category reference number based on whether the moving object is stopped. Specifically, in the guidance output process, the criterion control unit 120 acquires information indicating whether the moving object is stopped before step S401. When the moving object is stopped, the criterion control unit 120 sets a larger category reference number than when the moving object is not stopped. Step S401 is then executed using the category reference number set by the criterion control unit 120. In this way, the amount of information presented when the driver is driving can be reduced compared to when the driver is not driving, further improving visibility and glanceability.

[0128] 14 and 15 show an example in which the number of symbols simultaneously displayed in the guide is set to a predetermined standard number of types or less. However, the guide generation unit 110 may generate guides for all non-displayed symbol types without any limit on the number. In other words, the guide generation unit 110 may generate an image as a guide that simultaneously displays the symbols and names of all non-displayed symbol types.

[0129] The guide generation unit 110 of the information presentation device 10 according to this embodiment may or may not further include the functions of the guide generation unit 110 of the information presentation device 10 according to the first embodiment. In the former case, it is preferable that the guide display operation for displaying a guide for a symbol that is currently being displayed is different from the guide display operation for displaying a guide for a symbol type that is not being displayed.

[0130] As described above, according to this embodiment, the guide generation unit 110 generates a guide for a symbol that corresponds to a facility that exists within the area of the map displayed on the display unit but is not displayed on the map, in response to a predetermined operation by the user. Therefore, the user can operate the device using the correct voice command by following the guide.

[0131] Although the embodiments and examples have been described above with reference to the drawings, these are merely examples of the present invention, and various configurations other than those described above can also be adopted.

[0132] In addition, although the flowcharts used in the above description show multiple steps (processes) in a sequential order, the order of steps executed in each embodiment is not limited to the order shown. In each embodiment, the order of the steps shown in the drawings can be changed as long as it does not cause any problems in terms of content. Furthermore, the above-described embodiments can be combined as long as the content is not contradictory.
