[0045] In general, when a UE moves from one cell to another cell, a serving cell change needs to be performed. In the legacy, the serving cell change is triggered by explicit radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message (e.g. a handover (HO) command) to trigger the synchronization of a target cell based on Layer-3 (L3) measurements report. It leads to longer latency, larger overhead, and longer interruption time than lower layer-based mobility. Therefore, in 3GPP, Layer-1 / layer-2 (L1 / L2) triggered mobility (LTM) was approved to change a serving cell via L1 / L2 signalling, in order to reduce the latency, overhead and interruption time.

[0046] LTM is a procedure in which the serving cell provides LTM candidate cell configuration to UE. Then, a network equipment (e.g. a serving cell or serving BS) receives L1 measurement report (s) from a UE, and on their basis the BS changes UE’s serving cell by a cell switch command signaled via a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) . The cell switch command indicates an LTM candidate cell configuration ID that the BS previously prepared and provided to the UE through RRC signalling. Then, the UE switches to the candidate cell according to the LTM cell switch command. The LTM can be used to reduce the mobility latency.

[0047] In some cases, an LTM configuration includes the beam configuration of both synchronization signal block (SSB) and channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) in L1 measurement resource configuration.

[0048] Master cell group (MCG) LTM is a PCell switch procedure that the network triggers via a MAC CE based on L1 measurements. Secondary cell group (SCG) LTM is a PSCell switch procedure that the network triggers via a MAC CE based on L1 measurements.

[0049] The potential applicable scenarios of LTM include "intra-CU intra-DU LTM, " "intra-CU inter-DU LTM, " and "inter-CU LTM" as described below: (1) Intra-CU intra-DU LTM / mobility: a UE moves between different cells within a DU. (2) Intra-CU inter-DU LTM / mobility: a UE moves between different cells belonging to  different DUs but within a same CU. (3) Inter-CU LTM / mobility: a UE moves between different cells belonging to different  DUs different CUs.

[0050] In the present disclosure, LTM may also be named as lower layer-Triggered Mobility, L1 / L2 lower layer-Triggered Mobility or the like. An LTM procedure may also be named as "an LTM cell switch procedure, " "an LTM cell switching procedure, " or the like. Inter-CU LTM may also be named as inter-BS LTM, inter-gNB LTM, or the like. Intra-CU LTM may also be named as intra-BS LTM, intra-gNB LTM, or the like.

[0051] For a conditional LTM (CLTM) , the handover procedure is executed only when execution condition (s) are met within a time duration. That is, the handover is executed by a UE when one or more handover execution conditions (e.g. execution condition consisting of one or more trigger conditions, where the trigger condition is LTM event) are met. The UE starts evaluating the execution condition (s) upon receiving the conditional LTM and stops evaluating the execution condition (s) once a handover is executed.

[0052] Currently, the following LTM events based on beam specific quality of a serving cell and candidate cells may be supported as L1 LTM measurement events. The following events can be used to trigger an L1 measurement report. Namely, once the event is met within a time duration, a UE is triggered to report L1 measurement results via MAC CE. In addition, the following events can be used as an execution condition of triggering LTM cell switch. Specifically, once the condition is met within a time duration, the UE is triggered to perform cell switch towards the corresponding candidate cell which is previously prepared by network. -Event LTM2: Beam (s) of a serving cell becomes worse than an absolute threshold; -Event LTM3: Beam (s) of a candidate cell becomes offset better than beam (s) of a  serving cell; -Event LTM4: Beam (s) of a candidate cell becomes better than an absolute threshold; -Event LTM5: Beam (s) of a serving cell becomes worse than an absolute threshold  AND Beam (s) of a candidate cell becomes better than another absolute threshold.

The m beams could be the best m beams from the serving cell in this option. -E1-1b: A number m and threshold for beam filtering are configured by network. -UE considers the entering condition for this event to be fulfilled when condition E1- 1 is fulfilled based on the average of the best minimum (m1, m) beams. There are m1 beams of the serving cell meeting the threshold. Ms is the average of minimum (m1, m) beams of the serving cell. -UE considers the entering condition for this event to be fulfilled when condition E1- 2 is fulfilled based on the average of the best minimum (m1, m) beams. There are m1 beams of the serving cell meeting the threshold. Ms is the average of minimum (m1, m) beams of the serving cell. Inequality E1-1 (Entering condition) Mbs + Hys < Thresh The variables in the formula are defined as follows: Mbs is the measurement result of the beam of the serving cell. Hys is the hysteresis parameter for this event. Thresh is the threshold parameter for this event.

[0054] Details of Event LTM3 (Beam (s) of a candidate cell becomes offset better than beam (s) of a serving cell) are as follows: (1) Entering condition: -E2-1a: A number m is configured by network. -Alternative#1: UE considers the entering condition for this event to be fulfilled  when condition E2-1 is fulfilled for each beam from the best m beams. -Alternative#2: UE considers the entering condition for this event to be fulfilled  when condition E2-1 is fulfilled based on the average of the best m beams. -E2-1b: A number m and a threshold for beam filtering is configured by network. -Alternative#1: UE considers the entering condition for this event to be fulfilled  when condition E2-1 is fulfilled for each beam from the best minimum (m1, m2 and m) beams. The number m is configured by network. One threshold is configured by the network to UE. Only the beam which is greater than the threshold can be selected for checking entering condition. There are m1 beams of the serving cell meeting the threshold. There are m2 beams of the serving cell meeting the threshold. √ For example, if Mn used in E2-1 is the best beam from the neighbour cell, Mp  used in E2-2 is also the best beam from the serving cell. If Mn used in E2-1 is the second-best beam from the neighbour cell, Mp used in E2-2 is also the second-best beam from the serving cell. And so on. -Alternative#2: UE considers the entering condition for this event to be fulfilled  when condition E2-2 is fulfilled based on the average of beams of serving cell and neighbour cell. There are m1 beams of the serving cell meeting the threshold. There are m2 beams of the neighbour cell meeting the threshold. Mn is the average of minimum (m2, m) beams of neighbour cell. Mp is the average of minimum (m1, m) beams of serving cell. -use the SpCell for Mbp, Ofp and Ocp. [0057] In general, an issue of how to define a leaving condition of an LTM event have not been solved. For an event triggered L1 measurement report (i.e. an L1 measurement report triggered by an event) , some aspects of the present disclosure define a leaving condition for an event which triggers an L1 measurement report.

[0058] Some aspects of the present disclosure define a format of a normal measurement report (MR) MAC CE or a truncated MR MAC CE for an L1 measurement report. Some aspects of the present disclosure discuss the criterion of an L1 measurement report in a truncated MAC CE. For example, regarding which beam can be included in a truncated MR MAC CE (i.e. a truncated MAC CE for measurement report) , some aspects of the present disclosure propose that the truncated MR MAC CE includes a report configuration identifier (ID) (which corresponds to an event configuration ID) and ID information of at least one triggered beam (e.g. SSBRI or CRI) and quality of at least one triggered beam (e.g. an L1 RSRP value or SINR (signal to interference plus noise ratio) ) . In an event triggered periodical measurement report, a non-first (e.g. the second) measurement report may not have information related to a beam which triggers the measurement report (i.e. a triggered beam) .

[0059] In some aspects of the present disclosure, regarding CSI acquisition for a candidate cell, after receiving an RRC configuration and before receiving an LTM cell switch command MAC CE, a UE may measure CSI based on the configured one or more CSI-RS resources. Some aspects of the present disclosure discuss a trigger condition of starting to measure the configured one or more CSI-RS resources.

[0060] Regarding early synchronization for Inter-CU MCG LTM or Inter-CU SCG LTM, only virtual DU ID is transferred in Xn interface in the case of Inter-CU MCG / SCG LTM. To support subsequent LTM, when to generate an early synchronization configuration of a candidate cell (e.g. candidate cell #1) for a candidate BS (e.g. candidate gNB #2) besides a source BS (e.g. source gNB) is discussed in some aspects of the present disclosure.

[0061] More details of the embodiments of the present application will be illustrated in the following text in combination with the appended drawings.

[0062] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present application. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0063] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g. receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0064] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g. voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0065] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0066] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0067] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g. S1, N2, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g. via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0068] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g. a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g. a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g. data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0069] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g. via an S1, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g. a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g. control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g. the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g. one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0070] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g. time resources (e.g. symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g. subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g. wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0071] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g. μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g. 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g. μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g. 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g. μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g. 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g. μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g. 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g. μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g. 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g. μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g. 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0072] A time interval of a resource (e.g. a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0073] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g. a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g. quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g. quantity) of symbols (e.g. OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g. quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g. applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g. μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g. 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0074] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g. control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0075] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g. at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g. μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g. μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g. μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g. at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g. μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g. μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0113] In some implementations, the UE may determine the leaving condition for the at least one event as satisfied after the UE evaluating that: (1) a leaving condition (e.g. condition LTM3-2, condition LTM4-2 or condition LTM5-4 as  described below) for all beams of the candidate cell is fulfilled; (2) a leaving condition (e.g. condition LTM3-2, condition LTM4-2 or condition LTM5-4)  for all beams of the candidate cell which are received from a lower layer of the UE is fulfilled; (3) a leaving condition (e.g. condition LTM3-2, condition LTM4-2 or condition LTM5-4)  for the best beam of the candidate cell is fulfilled; or (4) a leaving condition for the best beam (denoted as a first beam) among all beams of the  candidate cell received from a lower layer of the UE is fulfilled.

[0114] In some implementations, the UE may start evaluating a leaving condition associated with any beam of the candidate cell (e.g. a given cell) , after an entering condition associated with any beam of the candidate cell is satisfied within the first time duration. The UE may start evaluating a leaving condition associated with a beam of the candidate cell (denoted as a second beam, e.g. a given beam of a candidate cell) , after an entering condition associated with the second beam is satisfied within the first time duration. The UE may start evaluating a leaving condition associated with a current beam of a serving cell of the UE, after an entering condition associated with the current beam is satisfied within the first time duration.

[0115] In some implementations, the first configuration (which is received at 502) further includes information of one or more CSI-RS resources for CSI acquisition. The UE may measure CSI based on the CSI-RS resources. To measure the CSI, the UE may perform the following operations: (1) the UE may measure one or more CSI-RS resources configured for all of one or more  candidate cells of the UE, if at least one condition is configured by a NE to the UE and if the at least one condition is satisfied; for example, this at least one condition is configured as “quality of the serving cell of the UE is less than a configured threshold” ; (2) the UE may measure one or more CSI-RS resources configured for a candidate cell  (denoted as a first candidate cell) of the UE, if another at least one condition is configured by the NE to the UE and if this at least one condition is satisfied for the first candidate cell; for example, this at least one condition is configured as “quality of a candidate cell of the UE is greater than a configured threshold” ; (3) the UE may measure one or more CSI-RS resources configured for a candidate cell  (denoted as a second candidate cell) of the UE, after receiving a PDCCH order for early synchronization associated with the second candidate cell; (4) the UE may measure one or more CSI-RS resources configured for a candidate cell  (denoted as a third candidate cell) of the UE (e.g. in intra-CU CLTM) , after receiving an early TA MAC CE associated with the third candidate cell; or (5) the UE may measure one or more CSI-RS resources configured for a candidate cell  (denoted as a fourth candidate cell) of the UE (e.g. in CLTM) , after an execution condition of the conditional LTM is satisfied within a time duration (denoted as a third time duration, e.g. TTT#3) for the fourth candidate cell. The third time duration may be configured by the NE to the UE.

[0116] In some implementations, the UE may transmit an L1 measurement report to a NE, after “the entering condition for the at least one event is satisfied within the first time duration” or “the leaving condition for the at least one event is satisfied within the second time duration” . For example, the L1 measurement report is transmitted via a normal MR MAC CE or a truncated MR MAC CE. The truncated MR MAC CE is transmitted if an UL resource is not sufficient to accommodate the normal MR MAC CE plus a subheader of the normal MR MAC CE. A specific example of a normal MR MAC CE is described in the embodiments of Figure 7A. A specific example of a truncated MR MAC CE is described in the embodiments of Figure 7B.

[0117] In some implementations, the truncated MR MAC CE includes information (denoted as first information) related to a set of beams (denoted as a first set of beams) of one or more candidate cells, and an entering condition or a leaving condition of each beam of the first set of beams is satisfied. For example, the first set of beams includes only beams which meet the entering condition or the leaving condition.

[0118] The first information may include: (1) ID information of the L1 measurement report; (2) ID information of each beam of the first set of beams, for example, a beam ID (e.g. SSBRI or CRI) ; (3) quality (e.g. an L1 RSRP value or SINR) of each beam of the first set of beams; and / or (4) an indication (e.g. an explicit indication) indicating whether an entering condition or a leaving condition of each beam of the first set of beams is satisfied.

[0119] In some other implementations, the truncated MR MAC CE includes information (denoted as second information) related to a set of beams (denoted as a second set of beams) of one or more candidate cells. For example, the second set of beams includes the best beams in which at least one beam meets an entering condition or a leaving condition.

[0120] The second set of beams may include: (1) at least one beam (denoted as at least one second beam) , whose entering condition or leaving condition is satisfied, i.e. the triggered beam; and / or (2) at least one beam (denoted as at least one third beam) , whose quality is greater than quality of the at least one second beam, but an entering condition or a leaving condition of at least one third beam is not satisfied.

[0121] The second information may include: (1) ID information of the L1 measurement report; (2) ID information of each beam of the second set of beams, for example, a beam ID (e.g. SSBRI or CRI) ; (3) quality (e.g. an L1 RSRP value or SINR) of each beam of the second set of beams; and / or (4) an indication indicating whether an entering condition or a leaving condition of each beam of the second set of beams is satisfied.

[0122] In some implementations, the UE may receive a configuration (denoted as a second configuration) from the NE. The second configuration may include: (1) an interval time duration for measurement reports (e.g. report interval) , and (2) a total amount of measurement reports (e.g. report amount) that need to be transmitted after the at least one event is triggered. The L1 measurement report may be a periodical L1 measurement report (which may be named as “an event triggered periodical measurement report” or the like) , which is transmitted by the UE to the NE after the at least one event is triggered based on “the interval time duration for measurement report” and “the total amount of measurement reports” .

[0123] For example, the periodical L1 measurement report is transmitted via two or more normal MR MAC CEs and / or two or more truncated MR MAC CEs. A non-first report MAC CE (e.g. the second or third MAC CE) among the two or more normal MR MAC CEs or truncated MR MAC CEs may include information (denoted as third information) related to a set of beams (denoted as a third set of beams) of one or more candidate cells. In some embodiments, the third set of beams may include: (1) first N best beams of one or more candidate cells, wherein N is an integer; that is, the  non-first report MAC CE include the third information related to some best beams; (2) one or more beams (denoted as one or more first beams) triggering the periodical L1  measurement report in a higher priority, and one or more beams (denoted as one or more second beams) not triggering the periodical L1 measurement report in a lower priority; that is, the non-first report MAC CE include the third information related to one or more triggered beams in priority; or (3) only at least one beam triggering the periodical L1 measurement report; that is, the non- first report MAC CE only include the third information related to one or more triggered beams.

[0124] The third information may include: (1) ID information of the L1 measurement report; (2) ID information of each beam of the third set of beams, for example, a beam ID (e.g. SSBRI or CRI) ; (3) quality (e.g. an L1 RSRP value or SINR) of each beam of the third set of beams; and / or (4) an indication indicating whether an entering condition or a leaving condition of each beam of the third set of beams is satisfied.

[0125] It should be noted that the method described in Figure 5 describes possible implementations, and that the operations and the steps may be rearranged or otherwise eliminated or modified and that other implementations are possible, without departing from the spirit and scope of the application.

[0126] Figure 6 illustrates a flowchart of a method performed by a NE in accordance with aspects of the present application. In some implementations, the NE may be a BS (e.g. gNB) , and may execute a set of instructions to control the function elements of the BS to perform the described functions. In some implementations, aspects of operations 602 and 604 may be performed by NE 400 as described with reference to Figure 4. Specific examples are described in the embodiments of any of Figures 8-10 as follows.

[0127] At 602, the method may include transmitting, by a NE to a UE, a configuration (e.g. a first configuration in the embodiments of Figure 5) related to at least one event for triggering an L1 measurement report. Similar to the embodiments of Figure 5, the at least one event may include Event LTM2, Event LTM3, Event LTM4 or Event LTM3.

[0128] The configuration transmitted at 602 may include the same or similar elements as those in the first configuration as described in the embodiments of Figure 5. For example, the configuration includes: (1) ID information of the at least one event, and (2) a set of parameters associated with an entering condition and a leaving condition for the at least one event. The set of parameters here may include the same or similar elements as those in the set of parameters as described in the embodiments of Figure 5.

[0129] At 604, the method may include receiving, by the NE from the UE, an L1 measurement report after “the entering condition for the at least one event is satisfied within a time duration (e.g. a first time duration in the embodiments of Figure 5) ” or “the leaving condition for the at least one event is satisfied within a time duration (e.g. a second time duration in the embodiments of Figure 5) ” . The entering or leaving condition here may include the same or similar elements as those in the entering or leaving condition as described in the embodiments of Figure 5.

[0130] In some implementations, the L1 measurement report is received by the NE via a normal MR MAC CE or a truncated MR MAC CE. The truncated MR MAC CE is transmitted if an UL resource is not sufficient to accommodate the normal MR MAC CE plus a subheader of the normal MR MAC CE. The truncated MR MAC CE here may include the same or similar elements as those in the truncated MR MAC CE as described in the embodiments of Figure 5.

[0131] In some implementations, the NE may transmit a configuration (e.g. a second configuration in the embodiments of Figure 5) to the UE, which includes an interval time duration for measurement reports (e.g. report interval) and a total amount of measurement reports (e.g. report amount) that need to be transmitted after the at least one event is triggered. The L1 measurement report may be a periodical L1 measurement report, which is transmitted to the NE after the at least one event is triggered based on “the interval time duration for measurement report” and “the total amount of measurement reports” .

[0132] It should be noted that the method described in Figure 6 describes possible implementations, and that the operations and the steps may be rearranged or otherwise eliminated or modified and that other implementations are possible, without departing from the spirit and scope of the application.

[0133] Figure 7A illustrates an exemplary format of a normal MR MAC CE in accordance with aspects of the present application. As shown in Figure 7A, if there are N beams of one or more candidate cells, a normal MR MAC CE may include Oct 1 to Oct n, each of which includes 8 bits. In particular, the MR MAC CE includes: LTM configuration ID (e.g. 3 bits) , report configuration ID (i.e. report config ID as shown in Figure 7A) , index of a current beam of a serving cell of a UE (e.g. 6 bits) , quality of the current beam (e.g. 7 bits) (e.g. RSRP or SINR) , index of beam #1 of candidate cell of the UE (e.g. 6 bits) , quality of beam #1 (e.g. 7 bits) (e.g. RSRP or SINR) , index of beam #2 of candidate cell of the UE (e.g. 6 bits) , quality of beam #2 (e.g. 7 bits) (e.g. RSRP or SINR) , ... and index of beam #N of candidate cell of the UE (e.g. 6 bits) , quality of beam #N (e.g. 7 bits) (e.g. RSRP or SINR) . In addition, the LTM candidate cell ID may be added for each beam from the one or more candidate cells.

[0134] Figure 7B illustrates an exemplary format of a truncated MR MAC CE in accordance with aspects of the present application. A truncated MR MAC CE is transmitted if an UL resource is not sufficient to accommodate a normal MR MAC CE plus a subheader of the normal MR MAC CE. As shown in Figure 7B, a truncated MR MAC CE only includes: LTM configuration ID (e.g. 3 bits) , report configuration ID (i.e. report config ID as shown in Figure 7B) , index of a current beam of a serving cell of a UE (e.g. 6 bits) , quality of the current beam (e.g. 7 bits) (e.g. RSRP or SINR) , index of beam #1 of candidate cell of the UE (e.g. 6 bits) , and quality of beam #1 (e.g. 7 bits) (e.g. RSRP or SINR) . In addition, the LTM candidate cell ID may be added in the MAC CE for each beam from the one or more candidate cells. The total number of beams of the candidate cells included in truncated MR MAC CE depends on the UL available grant.

[0135] Figure 8 illustrates a schematic diagram of an event triggered layer-1 (L1) measurement report in accordance with aspects of the present application. Details described in all other embodiments of the present application are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 8. Following text describes different embodiments of Figure 8 in different cases, i.e. Embodiment 1 and Embodiment 2.

[0139] In some embodiments of 801, the UE may report the UE capability information to the NE if receiving the enquiry from the NE. For example, the UE may report at least one of the following UE capability information: (1) An indication to indicate whether the UE supports L1 event triggered measurement report  via MAC CE. (2) An indication to indicate which event the UE supports for L1 measurement report via  MAC CE. (3) An indication to indicate whether to support DCI based L1 measurement report via MAC  CE.

[0140] In Embodiment 1, the following events may be supported by the UE: ◆ Event#1: Beam of serving cell becomes better than absolute threshold; ◆ Event#2 for LTM (e.g. Event LTM2) : Beam of serving cell becomes worse than  absolute threshold; ● The UE shall: 1> consider the entering condition for this event to be satisfied when condition  LTM2-1, as specified below, is fulfilled; 1> consider the leaving condition for this event to be satisfied when condition  LTM2-2, as specified below, is fulfilled; 1> for this measurement, consider the current beam, i.e. corresponding to the  RS associated with indicated TCI state or the RS QCLed with the RS associated with indicated TCI state in the serving cell. ● Inequality LTM2-1 (Entering condition) Ms –Hys > Thresh ● Inequality LTM2-2 (Leaving condition) Ms + Hys < Thresh ● The variables in the formula are defined as follows: Ms is the beam measurement quantity of the serving cell based on  SS / PBCH block or CSI-RS, not taking into account any offsets. The beam associated with this event is the current beam, i.e. corresponding to the RS associated with indicated TCI state or the RS QCLed with the RS associated with indicated TCI state in the serving cell. Hys is the hysteresis parameter for this event (i.e. [hysteresis] as defined  within for this event) . Thresh is the threshold parameter for this event. Ms is expressed in dBm in case of RSRP, or in dB in case of SINR. Hys is expressed in dB. Thresh1 is expressed in the same unit as Ms. Thresh2 is expressed in the same unit as Mn.

[0141] In the DC case, at 801, the UE may receive a configuration related to L1 measurement report from the MN. If SCG is configured, the UE may receive the configuration related to L1 measurement report from the SN as well. The configuration from the SN is configured for SCG LTM purpose.

[0142] At 802, the NE transmits an RRC reconfiguration message including some parameters related to an event triggered L1 measurement report to the UE.

[0143] In some embodiments, the parameters could be at least one of the following (for an event, e.g. which is named as event #B) : ● Obn is the RS type specific offset of the beam of the LTM candidate cell  (i.e. [beamIndividualOffsetN] as defined in [TBD RRC parameter] for this event) . ● Obs is the RS type specific offset of the beam of the serving cell (i.e.  [beamIndividualOffsetS] as defined in [TBD RRC parameter] for this event) . ● Hys is the hysteresis parameter for this event (i.e. [hysteresis] as defined  within [TBD RRC parameter] for this event) . ● Off is the offset parameter for this event (i.e. [ltm3-Offset] as defined  within [TBD RRC parameter] for this event) . ● TTT ● Report Interval and Report amount.

[0144] At 803, the UE starts to evaluate the event according to the configuration.

[0145] For example, if event #B and TTT are configured to the UE, the UE may start TTT when the entering condition is met. The UE continues evaluating whether the entering condition is met during TTT. In event #B, the beam of the serving cell is a current beam which is indicated by TCI state. If the current beam of the serving cell is changed e.g. due to DCI or a MAC CE or an RRC reconfiguration, the UE will maintain TTT for event #B.

[0146] At 804, the UE is triggered to report L1 measurement results if the entering condition is met within TTT. For example, the UE transmits a measurement report MAC CE which includes a beam ID and beam quality.

[0147] A truncated event-triggered L1 measurement report MAC CE (i.e. a truncated MR MAC CE) can be used when the available grant is not sufficient to accommodate a normal MR MAC CE plus its subheader. A truncated MR MAC CE may include the triggered beam information, e.g.: a report configuration ID (which correspond to an event configuration ID) and at least one triggered beam ID (e.g. SSBRI or CRI) and beam quality (e.g. an L1 RSRP value) . Differential beams may have different RSRP values. In some cases, the first entry should be the best one, but the best one may not be the triggered beams. In such cases, following two options may be adopted in different embodiments: -Option X: A truncated MR MAC CE includes only one or more beams (e.g. one or more  triggered beams) which meet an entering or leaving condition for an event (e.g. any of Event LTM2 to Event LTM5) . In Option X, a beam whose quality is greater than the quality of the one or more triggered beams but not meeting an entering or leaving condition for an event is not included in the truncated MR MAC CE. -Option Y: A truncated MR MAC CE includes the best beams in which at least one beam  meets the condition. In Option Y, a beam whose quality is greater than the triggered beam but not meeting condition is included in the truncated MR MAC CE. In Option Y, an explicit indication of whether a beam meeting an entering or leaving condition for an event or not may be added in the truncated MR MAC CE.

[0148] After the event is met, the UE may be triggered to periodically report L1 measurement results via one or more MAC CEs based on the configuration from the NE, e.g. Report Interval and Report amount. -Report Interval: This field defines the periodicity of the event triggered periodical  measurement report. -Report amount: a number of measurement reports that are need to be transmitted after the  event is triggered. For example, value 'r2' means the report is sent twice, ’r3’ means the report is sent three times, and so on.

[0149] In the event triggered periodical measurement report, a non-first measurement report (i.e. a subsequent measurement report, e.g. the second or third report) may not have the triggered beam. Regarding what can be reported in a truncated MR MAC CE of a subsequent measurement report, following three options may be adopted in different embodiments: -Option U: In the non-first report truncated MR MAC CE among the periodical  measurement report, the truncated MR MAC CE can include the first N best beams. -Option V: In the non-first report truncated MR MAC CE among the periodical  measurement report, the truncated MR MAC CE can include one or more triggered beams in priority. -Option W: In the non-first report truncated MR MAC CE among the periodical  measurement report, the truncated MR MAC CE can include one or more beams triggering this periodical measurement report.

[0150] At 805, after the NE receives the L1 measurement report, the NE may decide whether to trigger cell switch towards a candidate cell, e.g. LTM cell switch.

[0151] Embodiment 2

[0152] Operation 801 in Embodiment 2 is the same as operation 801 in Embodiment 1.

[0153] Operation 802 in Embodiment 2 is the same as operation 802 in Embodiment 1.

[0154] At 803, the UE starts to evaluate the event according to the configuration.

[0155] For example, if event #B and TTT are configured to the UE, the UE may start TTT when the entering condition is met. There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option M: from a given cell, the UE starts evaluating leaving condition after the  entering condition is met within TTT. -Option N: from a given beam of a candidate cell, the UE starts evaluating leaving  condition for the beam after the entering condition associated with the beam is met within TTT. -From the current beam of the serving cell, the UE starts evaluating leaving  condition for the beam after the entering condition associated with the beam is met within TTT.

[0156] Operation 804 in Embodiment 2 is the same as operation 804 in Embodiment 1.

[0157] Operation 805 in Embodiment 2 is the same as operation 805 in Embodiment 1.

[0158] Figure 9 illustrates a schematic diagram of an event triggered layer-1 (L1) measurement report in accordance with aspects of the present application. Details described in all other embodiments of the present application are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 9.

[0159] At 901, a UE accesses a NE (e.g. the serving gNB) via MCG only or Dual-connectivity (DC) including MCG and SCG. Namely, the UE accesses a MN and a SN (which are included in the NE shown in Figure 9) via DC.

[0160] In some embodiments of 901, the UE may report the UE capability information to the NE if receiving the enquiry from the NE.

[0161] In the DC case, at 901, the UE may receive a configuration related to L1 measurement report from the MN. If SCG is configured, the UE may receive the configuration related to L1 measurement report from the SN as well. The configuration from the SN is configured for SCG LTM purpose.

[0162] At 902, the NE transmits an RRC reconfiguration message including SSB or CSI-RS resource for CSI acquisition to the UE. In some embodiments, the SSB or CSI-RS resource may be related to the candidate cell ID, e.g. LTM candidate ID, target configuration ID or PCI.

[0163] Regarding candidate cell CSI acquisition, after receiving the RRC configuration and before receiving an LTM cell switch command MAC CE, the UE may measure CSI based on the configured one or more CSI-RS resources, which is subject to UE capability. Regarding when may the UE start measuring the configured CSI-RS resources, there may be following five options in different embodiments: -Option (1) : One event (per UE) is configured by the NE to the UE. When the  event is met, UE is triggered to measure the configured one or more CSI-RS resources of all candidate cell (s) . -Option (2) : One event (per candidate cell) is configured by the NE to the UE.  When the event is met, the UE is triggered to measure the configured one or more CSI-RS resources of this candidate cell. -Option (3) : After receiving PDCCH order for early synchronization associated  with a candidate cell, the UE is triggered to measure the configured one or more CSI-RS resources for CSI acquisition. -Option (4) : In Intra-CU CLTM, after receiving an early TA MAC CE associated  with a candidate cell, the UE is triggered to measure the configured one or more CSI-RS resources for CSI acquisition. -Option (5) : In Conditional LTM, after the execution condition for a candidate cell  is met ‘within TTT’ , the UE is triggered to measure the configured one or more CSI-RS resources for CSI acquisition.

[0164] At 903, the UE is triggered to perform cell switch due to the reception of the LTM cell switch command MAC CE or the fulfilment of the execution condition. For example: -If the UE performs random access channel (RACH) towards the candidate cell, the UE  can report the CSI to the candidate cell after completing the RACH procedure. -If the UE performs RACH-less cell switch with configured grant (CG) configuration, the  UE can report the CSI to the candidate cell via CG resource. -If the UE performs RACH-less cell switch without CG configuration, the UE will monitor  PDCCH. The UE can report the CSI to the candidate cell via the first UL grant provided by PDCCH. -The cell switch could be one of Intra-CU MCG LTM, Intra-CU SCG LTM, Inter-CU  MCG LTM, Inter-CU SCG LTM, or Intra-CU MCG conditional LTM.

[0165] Figure 10 illustrates a schematic diagram of using a virtual distributed unit (DU) identifier (ID) in accordance with aspects of the present application. Details described in all other embodiments of the present application are applicable for the embodiments shown in Figure 10. Following text describes different embodiments of Figure 10 in different cases, i.e. Embodiment A and Embodiment B.

[0166] Embodiment A

[0167] At 1001, a UE accesses a source BS (e.g. the serving gNB) via MCG only or Dual-connectivity (DC) including MCG and SCG. Namely, the UE accesses a MN and a SN (which are included in the source BS shown in Figure 10) via DC.

[0168] In some embodiments of 1001, the UE may report the UE capability information to the source BS if receiving the enquiry from the source BS. For example, the UE capability information may include an indication whether the UE supports Inter-CU LTM based fast recovery.

[0169] In the DC case, at 1001, the UE may receive a configuration related to L1 measurement report or L3 measurement report from the MN (e.g. MN-CU in the source BS) . If SCG is configured, the UE may receive the configuration related to L1 measurement report or L3 measurement report from the SN as well. The configuration from the SN is configured for SCG LTM purpose.

[0170] At 1002, after the MN-CU receives a measurement report from the UE, the MN-CU (in the source BS) decides to prepare a candidate cell (e.g. candidate cell #1) . In some embodiments of 1002, the MN-CU transmits a request for candidate cell#1 preparation, e.g. HANDOVER REQUEST, to candidate CU (e.g. candidate gNB-CU) via Xn interface. This request may be named as an Xn request. The request for early synchronization information (or the request of early synchronization configuration) included in the Xn request can be transmitted to the candidate CU.

[0171] For example, the request for early synchronization information may contain one or more entity IDs of requesting one or more early RACH resources. The entities may belong to the same gNB. The entity could be a DU. For example, the entity ID could be a real DU ID (e.g. a real gNB-DU ID or an actual gNB-DU ID) or a virtual entity ID assigned by gNB-CU. In some implementations, the entity ID can be generated by its gNB-CU (there is an F1 interface between CU and DU) . If the virtual entity ID is used, the virtual entity ID is one-to-one mapped to the real DU ID at least within a gNB-CU. The source gNB-CU will maintain the association between the real DU ID and the virtual entity ID. The virtual entity ID could be a value of INTEGER (0, ... N) which format is similar to the real DU ID. N may be a maximum number, e.g. 236-1.

[0172] There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option 1a: a request for a virtual entity ID list of gNB #2 will be included in the handover  request from source gNB #0 to candidate gNB #1. The CU of source gNB #0 receives the virtual entity ID list of gNB #2 when preparing candidate cell #2 belonging to gNB #2. -Option 1b: the source gNB #0 transmits a gNB list (e.g. including gNB #2 and etc. ) , gNBs  in which have prepared the candidate cell (s) for this UE. Then, gNB #1 may provide the early synchronization configuration of candidate cell #1 to gNB #2 via a direct Xn interface.

[0173] For instance, the real gNB-DU ID may be of the following format. The gNB-DU ID uniquely identifies the gNB-DU at least within a gNB-CU.

[0174] At 1003, after the candidate CU (e.g. gNB #1) receives the request for a candidate cell (e.g. candidate cell #1) from the source CU, the candidate CU (e.g. gNB-CU) sends a request to the corresponding candidate DU. There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option (A) : the candidate gNB-CU does not have real gNB-DU ID. The gNB-CU will  generate RRC configuration including candidate cell ID and the configuration from gNB-DU. --In Option (A) , the candidate gNB-CU sends a request, e.g. UE CONTEXT SETUP  REQUEST message, to the candidate gNB-DU (s) for each candidate cell via F1 interface. The request towards candidate gNB-DU (s) may include at least one of the following: ■ One candidate cell ID. ■ The CSI resource configuration for subsequent LTM. ■ Request for early synchronization Information ◆ A gNB ID and virtual entity ID list. Virtual entity ID (s) in this list belongs to  this gNB. In addition, it is possible that different gNB IDs are provided in this request. -Option (B) : the candidate gNB-CU has a real gNB-DU ID provided by operation  administration and maintenance (OAM) or other nodes. --In Option (B) , the candidate gNB-CU will maintain the association between the real  gNB-DU ID and the virtual entity ID. The candidate gNB-CU transmits a response including some configuration to source gNB-CU. Early synchronization configuration will be updated. --In Option (B) , the candidate gNB-CU obtains “the virtual entity ID” and “actual or real  gNB-DU ID mapping relationship” from the OAM. In this case, the virtual entity ID list is not included in the request via F1 interface.

[0175] At 1004, (for both Option (A) and Option (B) ) if the candidate DU (e.g. candidate gNB-DU) accepts the request of LTM configuration, the candidate DU may transmit a response, e.g. UE CONTEXT SETUP RESPONSE message, including at least one of the following: (1) RACH configuration for early synchronization. 1) This RACH configuration can be per gNB. Or this RACH configuration is  common for different gNBs. (2) gNB ID 1) A virtual entity ID list (belonging to the above one gNB) . If Option (A) is applied,  the virtual entity ID will be used in response. Otherwise, the real DU ID is used. --For example, the virtual entity ID list is a preamble index list per virtual entity ID. (3) The generated lower layer RRC configurations for the accepted target candidate cell.

[0176] At 1005, after the candidate gNB-CU (e.g. gNB #1) receives the response from the candidate DU, the candidate CU transmits the response including some configuration for candidate cell #1 to the source gNB-CU (i.e. MN-CU, e.g. gNB #0) .

[0177] The candidate gNB-CU may also transmit early synchronization configuration for other gNB to this source gNB. Therefore, the source gNB-CU also store the early synchronization configuration provided by candidate cell #1 for other gNB (e.g. gNB #2) . The early synchronization configuration is also per DU of gNB #2. After the UE is switched to candidate cell #2, the configuration for early synchronization configuration related to candidate cell #1 provided to gNB #0 and gNB #2 will be transferred to gNB #2.

[0178] At 1006, after the source gNB-CU receives the acknowledge message for candidate cell #1 from the candidate gNB-CU, the source gNB-CU will transmit a request, e.g. UE CONTEXT MODIFICATION REQUEST message, to the source DU (e.g. source gNB-DU) or other DU associated with this CU. There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option (X) : the source gNB-CU maintains the association between real DU ID and virtual  entity ID. After the source gNB-CU receives the acknowledge message including the configuration for early synchronization with virtual entity ID, the source gNB-CU will replace virtual entity ID with the real DU ID. Then, the source gNB-CU will transmit the LTM candidate ID and the corresponding configuration, e.g. the configuration for early synchronization with the real DU ID, to the source gNB-DU (i.e. MN-DU) . For example: ◆ Early UL Sync Configuration IE (information element) is included in UE  CONTEXT MODIFICATION REQUEST message. ◆ Early UL Sync Configuration for SUL IE is included in UE CONTEXT  MODIFICATION REQUEST message. This IE applies for SUL carrier. -Option (Y) : after the source gNB-CU receives the acknowledge message including the  configuration for early synchronization with the virtual entity ID, the source gNB-CU may transfer it to the source gNB-DU without modification (e.g. to replace the virtual entity ID with the real DU ID) . In Option (Y) , the association between the real DU ID and the virtual entity ID should be transmitted to the source gNB-DU as well.

[0179] For instance, the early UL synchronization configuration may be of the following format. This IE indicates the early UL synchronization configurations for the UE.

[0180] In addition, after the source gNB-CU receives the response from the candidate gNB-CU, the source gNB-CU will transmit the configuration to each candidate gNB (e.g. gNB #2) .

[0181] The source gNB may send an update message e.g. LTM CONFIGURATION UPDATE to the candidate gNB (s) to update the configurations of early synchronization related to candidate cell #1. The candidate gNB (s) may send the ACKNOWLEDGE message e.g. LTM CONFIGURATION UPDATE ACKNOWLEDGE message to the source gNB.

[0182] At 1007, the source gNB-CU transmits an RRC reconfiguration message related to candidate cell to UE via the source gNB-DU (i.e. 1007A and 1007B as shown in Figure 10) . The RRC reconfiguration message includes at least one of the following: (1) Candidate cell ID, e.g. PCI, LTM candidate cell ID (e.g. ID of candidate cell #1) ; (2) LTM candidate configuration for candidate cell #1. -- (LTM configuration = LTM candidate configuration + condition) . --LTM candidate configuration = measurement configuration + CSI resource + RACH  configuration + MAC configuration + Physical layer configuration + RLC + PDCP configuration.

[0183] At 1008, the source DU transmits a cell switching command, e.g. an LTM cell switch command MAC CE, including LTM candidate cell ID to the UE. --For example, the source gNB-DU will transmit a notification message to the source gNB- CU which includes at least one of candidate cell ID, TCI state information and TA information. Then, the source gNB-CU will transmit notification message, e.g. CELL SWITCH NOTIFICATION message, to the candidate gNB-CU corresponding to the candidate cell. The notification message includes at least one of candidate cell ID, TCI state information, TA information, derived key and NCC related information. --After the UE is switched to candidate cell #2 (or during cell switching = mobility timer  T304 is running) , the configuration for early synchronization configuration related to candidate cell #1 provided to gNB #0 and gNB #2 will be transferred to gNB #2.

[0184] At 1009, after the UE receive an LTM cell switching command, e.g. an LTM cell switch command MAC CE towards a candidate cell, the UE performs LTM cell switching towards the candidate cell.

[0185] Embodiment B

[0186] At 1001, a UE accesses source BS (e.g. the serving gNB) via MCG only or Dual-connectivity (DC) including MCG and SCG.

[0187] In the DC case, the UE accesses a MN and a SN via DC. The UE reports the UE capability to the MN if receiving the enquiry from the MN. The UE capability may include an indication whether the UE supports Inter-CU LTM based fast recovery.

[0188] The UE may receive the configuration related to L1 measurement report or L3 measurement report from the MN. If SCG is configured, the UE may receive the configuration related to L1 measurement report or L3 measurement report from the SN as well. The configuration from the SN is configured for SCG LTM purpose.

[0189] At 1002, after MN-CU in the source BS (i.e. source MN-CU) receives measurement report from the UE, the source MN-CU decides to prepare candidate cell#1.

[0190] The source MN-CU transmits a request for candidate cell#1 preparation e.g. HANDOVER REQUEST, to candidate CU (e.g. candidate gNB-CU) via Xn interface. The request for early synchronization information (or the request of early synchronization configuration) included in the Xn request can be transmitted to the candidate CU.

[0191] The request for early synchronization information may contains the entity ID (s) of requesting Early RACH resources. The entities are belonging to the same gNB. The entity could be a DU. The entity ID could be real gNB-DU ID or virtual ID assigned by gNB-CU. The entity ID will be generated by its gNB-CU (there are F1 interface between CU and DU) . If the virtual entity ID is used, the virtual entity ID is one-to-one mapping to real DU ID at least within a gNB-CU. The source gNB-CU will maintain the association between real gNB DU ID and virtual entity ID. The virtual entity ID could be a value of INTEGER (0, ... N) which format is similar to real DU ID. N is a maximum number e.g. 236-1.

[0192] There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option 1A: a virtual entity ID list of gNB #2 will be included in the handover request  from source gNB #0 to candidate gNB #1. The source CU receives the virtual entity ID list of gNB #2 when preparing candidate cell #2 belonging to gNB #2. -Option 1B: the source gNB transmits a gNB list (e.g. gNB #2 and etc. ) , gNBs in which  have prepared the candidate cell for this UE. Then, gNB #1 may provide the early synchronization configuration of candidate cell #1 to gNB #2 via direct Xn interface.

[0193] For instance, the real gNB-DU ID may be of the following format. The gNB-DU ID uniquely identifies the gNB-DU at least within a gNB-CU.

[0194] At 1003, after candidate CU (e.g. candidate gNB-CU, e.g. gNB #1) receives the request for candidate cell #1 from the source MN-CU (e.g. source gNB-CU) , the candidate CU sends a request to the corresponding candidate DU. There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option (M) : the candidate gNB-CU does not have real gNB-DU ID. The candidate gNB- CU will generate an RRC configuration including a candidate cell ID and the configuration from candidate gNB-DU. --In Option (M) , the candidate gNB-CU sends a request, e.g. UE CONTEXT SETUP  REQUEST message, to the candidate gNB-DU (s) for each candidate cell via F1 interface. The request towards candidate gNB-DU (s) includes at least one of the following: (1) One candidate cell ID. (2) The CSI resource configuration for subsequent LTM. (3) Request for early synchronization Information: --gNB ID and virtual entity ID list. The virtual entity ID (s) in this list belongs to  this gNB. In addition, it is possible that the different gNB IDs are provided in this request. -Option (N) : the candidate gNB-CU has the real gNB-DU ID provided by OAM or other  nodes. In this option, the candidate gNB-CU will maintain the association between the real gNB-DU ID and the virtual entity ID. The candidate gNB-CU transmits the response including some configuration to the source gNB-CU. Early synchronization configuration will be updated. --In Option (N) , the candidate gNB-CU obtains the virtual entity ID and the real gNB-DU  ID mapping relationship from the OAM. In this case, the virtual entity ID list is not included in the request via F1 interface.

[0195] At 1004 (for both Option (M) and Option (N) ) , if the candidate gNB-DU accepts the request of LTM configuration, the candidate gNB-DU transmits a response, e.g. UE CONTEXT SETUP RESPONSE message, including at least one of the following: ■ RACH configuration for early synchronization. ◆ This RACH configuration can be per gNB. Or, this RACH configuration is  common for different gNBs. ■ gNB ID ◆ A virtual entity ID list (belonging to the above one gNB) . If Option (M) is  applied, the virtual entity ID will be used in response. Otherwise, the real DU ID is used. ● For example, the virtual entity ID list is a preamble index list per virtual  entity ID. ■ The generated lower layer RRC configurations for the accepted target candidate  cell.

[0196] At 1005, after the candidate gNB-CU (e.g. gNB #1) receives the response from the candidate gNB-DU, the candidate gNB-CU transmits the response including some configuration for candidate cell #1 to the source gNB-CU (e.g. gNB #0) .

[0197] The candidate gNB-CU may also transmit an early synchronization configuration for other gNB to this source gNB. Therefore, the source gNB-CU also store the early synchronization configuration provided by candidate cell #1 for other gNB, e.g. gNB #2. The early synchronization configuration is also per DU of gNB #2. After the UE is switched to candidate cell #2, the configuration for early synchronization configuration related to candidate cell #1 provided to gNB #0 and gNB #2 will be transferred to gNB #2.

[0198] At 1006, after the source CU receives the acknowledge message for candidate cell #1 from the candidate CU, the source CU will transmit a request, e.g. UE CONTEXT MODIFICATION REQUEST message, to the source DU (or other DU associated with this CU) . There may be following two options in different embodiments: -Option (x) : the source CU maintains the association between the real DU ID and the  virtual entity ID. After the source CU receives the acknowledge message including the configuration for early synchronization with the virtual entity ID, the source CU will replace the virtual entity ID with the real DU ID. Then, the source CU will transmit the LTM candidate ID and the corresponding configuration, e.g. the configuration for early synchronization with the real DU ID, to the source DU. For example: ◆ Early UL Sync Configuration IE is included in UE CONTEXT  MODIFICATION REQUEST message. ◆ Early UL Sync Configuration for SUL IE is included in UE CONTEXT  MODIFICATION REQUEST message. This IE applies for SUL carrier. -Option (y) : after the source CU receives the acknowledge message including the  configuration for early synchronization with the virtual entity ID, the source CU may transfer it to the source DU without modification (e.g. to replace the virtual entity ID with the real DU ID) . In Option (y) , the association between the real DU ID and the virtual entity ID should be transmitted to the source DU as well.

[0199] For instance, the early UL synchronization configuration may be of the following format. This IE indicates the early UL synchronization configurations for the UE.

[0200] In addition, after the source CU receives the response from the candidate CU, the source CU may transmit the configuration to each candidate gNB, e.g. gNB #2.

[0201] In some embodiments, the source gNB sends an update message, e.g. LTM CONFIGURATION UPDATE, to the candidate gNB (s) to update the configurations of early synchronization related to candidate cell #1. The candidate gNB (s) sends the ACKNOWLEDGE message, e.g. LTM CONFIGURATION UPDATE ACKNOWLEDGE message, to the source gNB.

[0202] At 1007, the source CU transmits an RRC reconfiguration message related to candidate cell to the UE via the source DU (i.e. 1007A and 1007B as shown in Figure 10) . The RRC reconfiguration message may include at least one of the following: (1) Candidate cell ID, e.g. PCI, LTM candidate cell ID (e.g. ID of candidate cell #1) ; (2) LTM candidate configuration for candidate cell #1. --(LTM configuration = LTM candidate configuration + condition) . --LTM candidate configuration = measurement configuration + CSI resource + RACH  configuration + MAC configuration + Physical layer configuration + RLC + PDCP configuration.

[0203] At 1008, the source DU transmits a cell switching command, e.g. LTM cell switch command MAC CE, including LTM candidate cell ID (e.g. ID of candidate cell #2) to the UE.

[0204] In some embodiments, the source DU will transmit a notification message to the source CU which includes at least one of candidate cell ID, TCI state information and TA information. Then, the source CU will transmit a notification message, e.g. CELL SWITCH NOTIFICATION message, to the candidate CU corresponding to the candidate cell. The notification message includes at least one of a candidate cell ID, TCI state information, TA information, a derived key and NCC related information.

[0205] In some embodiments, after the UE is switched to candidate cell #2 (or during cell switching = mobility timer T304 is running) , gNB #2 may transmit the request of early synchronization configuration of candidate cell #1 to gNB #1.

[0206] At 1009, after the UE receive LTM cell switching command, e.g. LTM cell switch command MAC CE, towards a candidate cell, the UE performs LTM cell switching towards the candidate cell.
