[0002] SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DYNAMICALLY ADJUSTING RESISTANCE
[0003] IN FITNESS DEVICE
[0004] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0005] [1] This invention generally relates to the field of fitness equipment, particularly in the development of compact, adjustable, and user-controlled resistance-based exercise machines designed for strength training. It integrates advancements in electromechanical systems, with a particular emphasis on electromagnetic friction systems and digitally controlled resistance mechanisms to provide versatile exercise options, real-time performance monitoring, and automatic resistance adjustment, making it ideal for home gyms.
[0006] BACKGROUND
[0007] [2] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0008] [3] Traditional fitness equipment, such as weight stacks and elastic bands, has notable limitations in delivering controlled and adjustable resistance, particularly in compact forms suitable for home environments. Fitness equipment designed for strength training traditionally involves weights, springs, or elastic resistance, each with limitations regarding adjustability, space requirements, and safety. Traditional fitness systems provide resistance throughout the entire movement of an exercise, including both the lifting (concentric) and lowering (eccentric) phases. This can increase the risk of injury and makes it hard to adjust the resistance quickly based on how well the user is performing. Other devices with digital resistance control often do not track important performance metrics like how many repetitions a user completes, his speed, or if he is having trouble with a certain weight. These SR2024257528 limitations prevent the device from giving real-time feedback or making automatic adjustments, which are essential for a personalized workout experience.
[0009] [4] According to a patent application “US10953268B1” titled “Strength training apparatus” discloses an embodiment of a strength training apparatus and related methods are provided. In one embodiment, a strength training apparatus may include a first arm and a second arm each being configured to be selectively pivoted independent of each other at multiple angles relative to each other, a first pulley coupled to an end of the first arm, a first cable extending through the first arm and the first pulley, a second pulley coupled to an end of the second arm, a second cable extending through the second arm and the second pulley, and an electronic control panel configured to allow for multiple levels of resistance to a user pulling on the first cable and / or the second cable. The electronic control panel may include a processor, and a memory configured to control a current level of resistance, an electronic input device configured to allow the user to set the current level of resistance, and an electronic output device configured to display the current level of resistance.
[0010] [5] According to another patent application “US7172538B2” titled “Exercise Apparatus” discloses an exercise apparatus includes a compact resistance unit that houses a pneumatic cylinder. The cylinder is connected to a pulley wheel that moves at least toward the cylinder. A main cable extends about a portion of the pulley wheel. One end of the main cable is fixed to the unit housing and the other end is attached to a pulley block of a block-and-tackle mechanism. A user cable extends through the block-and-tackle mechanism and is connected to a handle. The pneumatic cylinder resists movement of the handle away from the unit.
[0011] [6] The present invention introduces a device that not only provides compact, digitally controlled concentric-only resistance but also integrates advanced position and velocity monitoring to adjust resistance dynamically during the workout. This innovative approach aims to overcome the limitations of traditional fitness equipment by offering compact and adjustable resistance suitable for home environments. SR2024257528

[0043] A fitness device is housed in a wall-mounted unit that contains a spool connected to a resistance unit. A rope is wound around the spool and linked to the resistance unit via a one-way bearing mechanism. When the user pulls the rope, the spool rotates, engaging the resistance unit and providing the necessary resistance. The digital control system allows users to adjust the resistance level by manipulating the resistance unit. As the user reaches the end of their range of motion, the rope unwinds from the spool, and a bungee cord attached to the opposite side of the spool begins to wind, storing potential energy. In an exemplary embodiment, a spring or a counterweight may be attached to the opposite side of the spool. When the user releases the rope, the bungee cord's stored potential energy is released, exerting a force that pulls the spool back to its starting position. This automatic reset mechanism rewinds the rope around the spool, preparing the system for the next repetition without requiring any manual adjustments from the user. This feature significantly enhances the overall user experience by eliminating the need SR2024257528 to manually reset the equipment after each set, allowing users to focus on their workout seamlessly.
